i fully back this.

i'm on the record that i think bagman was a genuine death eater sympathiser, but that he was not a marked member of voldemort's inner circle - rather, that he was a low-level informant rookwood convinced to nab state secrets from filing cabinets by promising to give him "a job" afterwards.

in canon, the people who hear bagman explain this at his trial all assume he means "job" in the gainful employment sense.

skill issue. those of us who have reached a higher level of understanding know that he meant "job" in the... other sense.

amelia bones/emmeline vance

yes, absolutely - but only if they're both older women, since i've never vibed with the idea of everyone who was involved with the order/the ministry during the first war being the same age as the marauders.

instead, i am hooked on the exquisitely tragic potential of the two having come together during the first war as women who were already middle-aged - seeking comfort from both the unrelenting horror of what they were living through and from having to present bulletproof, hard-nosed masks to the world in order to survive in what is very clearly a man's world - and then thinking, after 1981, that it might be possible for them to be happy now that voldemort was guaranteed to not be coming back...

which is then derailed by amelia taking the ministry line during the order of the phoenix timeline, and not being able to face the idea that the dark lord might have returned. leading to a messy break-up when emmeline rejoins the reformed order.

and then the potential of reconciliation, after fudge is forced to acknowledge that dumbledore was telling the truth and amelia reaches out to her love to eat humble pie.

they were planning to meet up for lunch - and each was secretly hoping it would turn into more than that - later that week.

nobody told lord voldemort that him deciding to have them both murdered would rather interfere with those plans...

the list of death eaters which karkaroff gives in his attempt to be released from azkaban is sufficiently disorganised [he doesn't seem to target specific lines of voldemort's operation, for example - rookwood is the only ministry-based informant he names] that he's evidently just airing personal grievances for fun and profit.

rookwood gets dragged into it, then, because he persuaded karkaroff to break up with his boyfriend of six years, nailed him once, and then ghosted him.

Hogwarts Years For Various Characters

So, I'm getting a lot of mixed opinions on who went to Hogwarts when. Like all (and I do mean all) the adult characters going to Hogwarts with the Marauders, etc. So, I decided to do some extensive investigative work based on where the characters are in the books and what JKR said about them and their ages. If there's no information, I just looked up the actors who played them, and their ages at the time the movie was released (and when the movie is set). And yes, I will be including Hogwarts Mystery characters. Deal with it.

A few more notes, I find it extremely unlikely that half the OG Order of the Phoenix was made up of newly graduated Hogwarts students. Frank and Alice Longbottom have already made names for themselves as famous aurors by 1981, and it takes 3 years of training to become an auror. Same with Dorcas Meadows (I don't think she was an auror, but she was badass enough to be killed by Voldy personally).

As for Marlene McKinnon, Emmeline Vance, Amelia Bones, Hestia Jones, and Dedulus Diggle...

If Marlene was Lily's best friend and Sirius' lover (or even ex-lover), wouldn't Lily be more emotional about her death and say something like "I'm so sorry about Marlene. I know how much she meant to you."? And wouldn't she have mentioned her by name? "Marlene and her family" instead of "the McKinnons"?

If Emmeline Vance, Hestia Jones, and Dedulus Diggle were friends with Lily and James, wouldn't they (or Remus or Sirius) mention that to Harry? You would think that with all these "friends" of Harry's parents, going to Grimmauld Place would be like "coming home" to him.

Amelia Bones is described as having "grey hair" in OOTP, and the actress who portrayed her was 57 when Deathly Hallows part 1 was released, so she's almost 20 years older than the Marauders.

Shaking. Azkaban is cold. First place Sirius runs to canonly after leaving Hogwarts is “somewhere warm”.

Fear. Azkaban is an awful place to be in.

This interests me. You don’t like dementors yet you kept them at school.

This explains a lot and covers a lot of plot flaws but I still don’t buy it that Sirius didn’t know Snape was a death eater.

Ludo never really thought much about the war. It was during the peak of his fame as a Quidditch star, and what 20 year old really needs to focus on something as unpleasant as a war? It didn’t affect him, and he had no reason to get involved. 

That was, until he was accused of leaking top secret information to the Death Eaters. But how was he to know that Rabastan Lestrange was a Death Eater? Even Augustus Rookwood had been unaware of that fact, though Ludo noted that the Ministry didn’t come down on Rookwood as it did on him. 

He was lucky to escape Azkaban for his indiscretions, but his Quidditch career was ruined. His coach didn’t want one of his players tainted with something so unpleasant, so he was let go from the team, and ever since then, Ludo’s been doing everything he can to make his way back in the Quidditch arena. He doesn’t care what it takes or whose help he seeks out, no matter what side that puts him on in the things to come.

Gwenog Jones — Gwenog can’t exactly give him a position on her team, since she’s captain of the Harpies, but Ludo thinks she might have some influence beyond just the team she leads. He’s doing everything he can to suck up to her, hoping that it will mean getting him a way back into Quidditch. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she’s a bit of a looker.

Augustus Rookwood — Ludo’s still annoyed that Augustus missed getting bullied by the Ministry like Ludo did –– he was just as much a part of that conversation with Rabastan Lestrange as Ludo was. However, Ludo kept his mouth shut about Rookwood’s involvement. Maybe having this kind of information on the other man will help him get ahead in some way.

Evan & Elizabeth Rosier — Evan’s always been a good friend of Ludo’s, to the point where Ludo even knows about Evan’s involvement with the Death Eaters during the war. Ludo would never do anything to endanger Evan. Ludo’s also always had an eye for Evan’s twin sister Elizabeth, but she doesn’t seem to think much of him.

youtuber augustus AU: aside from games, there's also various home movie shenanigans and Sam Cooking Nights where some of the aquatos and Sam film kitchen shenanigans, amongst other things. There's also occasional random guest stars like Fred or Gloria. They dont hype any of the famous people up its just like "Oh yeah this is Fred and his bird Ludo" or "Hi Gloria! "

Augustus just vibes with the others a lot! Though also he's kind of scared of the Booles at first, thanks to that classic "Meat Circus" trauma (tm). It's only made worse by watching Compton cooking. That man is terrifying when he's cooking.

On the other hand, it's a really slice-of-life Youtube experience, where it's not showing the important bits. You'd imagine Augustus to want to show the shows and the like? No. He's going to show you all about the costume process and introduce you to his mother. You want to hear about the big performance with the Psychic 7 back together? Well there's this little guitar recital Bob's doing for just the 7 and their families since he's trying to get used to people, and that's what Augustus wanted to talk about this time.

On the other hand, Boyd has asked to remain off-camera at all times and has not been seen outside of one appearance, where he was only a voice heard through a door because he, Fred, Edgar, Gloria, and Caligosto were busy trying to play Thorney Towers Jenga and discovering that this is a disaster when you've got someone with anger issues, someone who jumps at any noise, someone who takes losing about as well as I take criticism (/j-- I'm getting at least a little better at it, I hope) and also someone with a giant metal claw hand.

augustus knew that his attitude as of late had been less than ideal, and, while he still wasn’t much for apologies on the whole, he knew the least his mate deserved was a nice lunch. well, no, the least he could do was not make ludo wait for him to emerge from the depths of his department – he always lost track of time down there, so he actually paid attention that morning, keeping an eye out so that he could emerge from his department right on time. his smile was real again, too, finally, though, really the only people benefitting from that currently were people he passed as he worked his way towards the atrium, but he was sure ludo would be glad to see it regardless, considering it grew when he met the man on the floor.  “call it a comeback if you must, but i’m happy to announce i’m once again no less than perfection.” the grin became a smirk, and gus raised a hand to clap it on ludo’s shoulder and give him a squeeze. “but I still appreciate you very much, and double for coming to meet me, so. lunch.”

removing his hand, he clapped it together with his other one (he was in a good mood, clearly). things had certainly improved, or, at least, it felt like they were about to. “i’m fun again and all yours if you want me. took the rest of the day off.”

holding the raid during a quidditch match was by no means an accident. it seemed perfect — early enough to catch j. pippins before the new school year, but not as busy as the time frame would usually imply. most should be at the game, right? safe and sound and out of the way — by the time the pitch dispersed, they would have their man interrogated, and the prophet would have a news filled day.

it seemed perfect — until the first explosion hit. a blast, screams of shock — shouting and running, the high set stands swaying with the movement . there are no casualties, as far as anyone can tell... at least not yet.

the fire came right from the quidditch field while players were in the air. it's the smoke that gets them — clouds of dust filling up to the air and over the stands, players try to find ground and the crowd dispersing into the nearest exits but meeting a barricade of bodies desperately trying to escape.

and then the walls begin to break. not much, but enough to reroute the building smoke and leave people scattering rather than lined along the rows of the pitch. almost everyone is lost at once in the fumes that still haven't let up, the panic as smothering as the black clouds surrounding them, and suspicions grew.

those were nearly all confirmed when the game finds itself in the crowd. bludgers thrown into stands, the quaffle hovering and dashing about like it's looking for something — someone, anyone, but unrelenting in its task. the common enemy finds itself again — portkey networks are gone, and someone's anti-apparated the pitch. they're stuck, and was... that a glimpse of a hooded figure?

no one seems to know what in the wixen world is going on, but one thing's certain:

the snitch must be somewhere... right?

in summary:

a pre-season friendly match between the wimbourne wasps & ballycastle bats (in the ballycastle home pitch) was held on the same day as the diagon alley raid. part-way through, however, an explosion happened on the field that send debris off over nearly the entire stands.

only minutes after the hogsmeade call-in, another had to be made to cover the quidditch field. the usual department of magical law enforcement team is now split up into thirds with chaos coming from all ends.

everyone’s initial reaction is to apparate, and they soon find they can’t — stadium lights begin to go dark, and nothing but the eerie, setting sun left in the distance remains. some make for the nearest portkeys and floo networks and once again, no word from the ministry at all, save for the scraps of help they could bring in — whether they want to or not, these wix are on their own.

members of the league frantically try and come down for the pitch again, some trying to collect their balls, but find quaffles behaving strangely and bludgers heading for the stands. the snitch is still nowhere to be seen.

the crowds make for exit points, but not all of them are so secure or even open. random watchers and players alike find themselves trapped in changing rooms, broom closets, bathrooms, and even just hallways with ceilings caved-in on either side. 

as much as they may try, your characters are stuck in the arena no matter their efforts otherwise... good luck!

➵ the fifth son born to arthur & molly weasley right after his twin brother, fred, george was practically born a prankster & inventor. after graduation, he planned to become a successful entrepreneur. from birth, both him & fred were attached at the hip; getting into all sorts of shenanigans together. not much has really changed regarding that. growing up, they successfully set off a dungbomb during christmas dinner, turned ron’s teddy bear into a spider after he broke fred’s toy broomstick, gave ron an acid pop that burnt a hole in his tongue, and nearly tricked ron into taking an unbreakable vow. ➵ during his first year, him and fred swiped the marauder’s map from filch’s desk; this aided more in their mischief. ➵ george, while not being a hat stall, could definitely have been a fair candidate for slytherin with his ambitious & cunning nature — if only he wasn’t a red-headed, reckless weasley. ➵ this curious boi might have a teeny, tiny case of undiagnosed ADHD. he definitely exhibits all of the symptoms; he’s never gotten officially checked out, though.  ➵ second year, he joined the quidditch team as beater. at one point, ron informed harry that george received ”really good marks” for his first few years. ➵ the summer before his fourth year, he stole arthur’s ford anglia with fred and ron. this was in order to rescue harry from the dursley’s and bring him to the burrow. ➵ the summer after fourth year, george went on a trip with his family to visit bill in egypt. with fred, of course, he tried to push percy into a pyramid. ➵ fifth year, he & fred graciously gifted harry the marauder’s map since they’d already memorized it. ➵ sixth year, he attended the quidditch world cup with his family, harry, & hermione. he and fred gambled on the outcome & won a great deal of money from ludo bagman. however, they were never paid, and harassed bagman all year. fred wanted to inform the ministry; george was against it since that’s considered blackmail. after harry won the triwizard tournament, he gifted fred & george his winnings to make up for their lost bet. they put this money away with the intention to invest it into their future joke shop. this is also the year they began selling their inventions and he took his ordinary wizarding level exams; received 3 OWLs in, what’s assumed, charms, defense against the dark arts, & transfiguration. ➵ seventh year, he spent the summer before school at 12 grimmauld place. after being given harry’s winnings, george had no interest in returning to school, but did anyway. he spent most of the year selling his and fred’s products. he also joined dumbledore’s army; not being a huge fan of umbridge. ➵ later that year, umbridge kicked him, harry, and fred off the quidditch team after george & harry got into a fight with draco malfoy. once the DA was discovered, george decided with fred, that he didn’t care about getting in trouble, and they began an all-out rebellion. they shoved an inquisitorial squad member into a vanishing cabinet, set off an array of fireworks that they made themselves, & created a portable swamp in the corridor. after the vandalism & chaos, george flew away from hogwarts with his brother; encouraging others, and peeves, to follow their example. ➵ after fleeing the castle, george worked with fred to establish a weasley’s wizard wheezes storefront. the summer before the golden trio set off for their sixth year, they had their grand opening. they remained open in diagon alley even while growing tensions of the war ensued. draco malfoy even purchased peruvian instant darkness powder from their shop, which assisted him during the battle of the astronomy tower. in theory, the twins unknowingly helped the death eaters twice, but we don’t have to unpack all that right now. ➵ him & fred lived in a loft above their shop. ➵ sometime after turning of age, george joined the order and assisted them during the battle of the seven potters. he was paired with remus lupin, and sometime during this mission, snape hit him with sectumsepra. he lost his ear and it was unable to be healed due to being cut off with dark magic. ➵ the burrow operated as a new headquarters for the order until they were ambushed by death eaters and they had to flee. ➵ george & fred were frequent guests on lee jordan’s radio show: potterwatch. ➵ george was hit with snape’s sectumsepmra curse and ended up losing his left ear. since it was dark magic, his injury wasn’t able to be repaired. he has permanent hearing loss and a scar where his ear used to be. he’s picked up BSL (british sign language) since the incident.  ➵ he split up from the rest of his family after the death eater ambush, but remained with fred. him & fred were apart of lee jordan’s radio broadcast, potterwatch, so it’s assumed they were with lee in some way. ➵ there was an incident where george, alone, was taken in front of the wizengamot while fred had stepped out for the afternoon. he was brought on charges of aiding and abetting the mass breakout of muggleborn criminals. supposedly, they had items sold at weasley’s wizard wheezes that’d aided in their ultimate escape. ➵ questioned & tortured at the hand of umbridge, they almost sent him off to azkaban… but the department of magical law enforcement requested time to gather more evidence to build a stronger case of george’s involvement. his blood status wasn’t in question, and therefore, he was free to go. ➵ during the battle of hogwarts, george lost his twin brother, fred, in an explosion orchestrated by augustus rookwood. the years that followed were absolutely the hardest thing he’d ever gone through.  ➵ upon fred’s demise, george might have taken up a biiit of a drinking problem. while it hasn’t entirely taken over his life, some would definitely consider him a “functioning alcoholic.”  ➵ depending on a potential charlie mun, after fred’s funeral, george followed charlie to romania in order to “travel” and “find himself” without fred able to stand by his side anymore.  he eventually stole a dragon from charlie and took it across the world. goooo georgie! he returned about a year after fred’s funeral initially took place. ➵ for quite some time, george struggled to conjure a patronus. with all of his “happy memories” linked to fred, the charm became quite difficult for him to perform. of course, george is a determined individual; he continued to try anyways.  ➵ eventually, two years after fred’s passing, george was able to cast a patronus. although, instead of a cheery magpie revealing itself, a peacock took its place. this was significant because, slowly but surely, george was beginning to detach his identity from fred. ➵ george continued to build the business he’d started with his late brother. these days, he fills his time with work; occupying his mind with weasley’s wizard wheezes instead of the void fred’s passing left within him.
