Uuuugggghhhhh. I hate it when I draw something based on someone else's fic, and my dumb image gets a bunch of comments but then no one bothers to go comment on the actual fic (which I always link to in the author's notes). >:(

The image wouldn't even exist without the fic, so it's meaningless on its own! It has zero value to me without the context of the words that inspired it!

EDIT: I wonder if asking something like "What was your favorite part of the fic this is based on?" in the author's notes would help get people to read it... *squints*

blake has like. a Thing about the horror of corrosion of identity also being paradoxically freeing because the imposed and manufactured parts of identity are included in that erosion. not "the freedom of having little-to-nothing to lose"--although that is something blake mentions experiencing in the Drains--but specifically being the experience of being freed from artificiality.

it's sorta the same thing i was talking about here--he views the integrity of his body as being inextricably intertwined with his identity, and thus has Complexes about keeping his body sacrosanct. even something as small as having stubble when he'd rather be clean-shaven is viewed by him as a jarring crack in his identity. the thing is that this trait isn't genuinely his--it wasn't really developed through his own life experiences, it was implanted by design. and given that vestiges falter most from having the identity they've been given challenged, it was very blatantly implanted for the specific purpose of ensuring that he would seek to prevent damage to his identity--for the specific purpose of keeping him from realizing the truth about himself: that he's been manufactured, manipulated, from the smallest of social interactions all the way down to the barest facts of his existence.

So! It's been brought to my attention that there's an etsy shop that's selling my Jaskier Sticker along with other fanart in their Witcher sticker lot. I can't attest to anyone else, but I certainly wasn't asked if they could sell my boy. I've asked them to take him off the lot but we'll see how it goes!

This morning I dreamt that someone recognized my Mjönir necklace and asked if I was a Norse Pagan, I told him, yes, I was and returned the question. At which point this man said, "Yeah, I am, but I don't really think the gods are how we think of them."

Naturally, I asked him to elaborate, and he basically said he believed that there was a span of time in which the Norse pantheon wasn't worshipped at all and it weakened the gods so much that they couldn't see us, even when present with us and that's why "they're just energies, they can't fully manifest yet". Apparently, my facial reaction spoke volumes because he got an attitude as was like, "Obviously, you disagree, so tell me what you think."

So I told him, I knew the gods could, in fact, see us. And when he cut me off with some snotty remark about the belief of the Christian God being omnipresent and omniscient, I admitted that yes, I am working on unpacking a lot of Christian beliefs, but, "I know the gods can see us because when I was doing research on Loki, and upon reading about how he stole a bloodstone from someone, he also stole one of mine. And it'd be really hard to steal the same crystal twice if he couldn't see us."

This guy kind of just stared at me for a moment before I shrugged and added, "Also I don't think they were ever not worshipped. Even if they we ere worshipped in secret, they've always been held in honor to someone."
