*Extra note, any gifs I upload from now will be uploaded in both .gif and .webp formats. webp is much higher quality than gifs, and tumblr supports webp well enough that you can apply one as your header with no issues. You will however need to click on the webps for them to animate, as the thumbnails are static. As not many sites support webp, you can use the .gif versions of my edits there instead.

considering that's it's quickly nearing christmas time, i decided to have a tiny event! it's gonna be really simple!

RULES:

You can choose any fandom, including KNB (Kuroko no Basket), TR (Tokyo Revengers), JJK (Jujutsu Kaisen), BNHA (Boku no Hero Academia), OHSHC (Ouran High School Host Club) or BLK (Blue Lock).

You can request any one character from any one of these fandoms (mutuals can choose 2, i'll tag mutuals below) and choose one color.

I will create one desktop/phone wallpaper (you can choose what you want) and write one fluffy christmas drabble of that character.

(Once again, tagged mutuals can choose both desktop and phone)

Summer Heat — Ch. 6

You fell asleep at your desk a grand total of three times that morning, and when you woke for the final time, Levi was standing in front of your desk with his arms crossed, a look of irritation on his face. His regular face always looked like that, though, so you weren’t sure if his face was just blank or not. You propped yourself up on your elbow, trying your very hardest to look like you hadn’t just been sleeping. You could even feel drool on your cheek.

“Can I help you?” You asked, and Levi glanced at your pile of half finished paperwork.

“Just give me what you’ve finished. And wash your face. You’re disgusting.”

You wiped your cheek with the back of your hand, and Levi wrinkled his nose, but he accepted the paperwork when you passed it to him. You sighed, carding a hand through your mussed hair. Your coffee cup was long empty and you still needed more caffeine in your system. You rose from your chair, turning to notice that the sun had begun to rise. New sunlight dyed the sky tangerine hues, the clouds blushing pastel pink, streaked with lavender. The birds were singing softly.

You tied your hair back with an elastic tie around your wrist, pulling it together at the nape of your neck, then leaving your office to go up into the break room. You found Krista curled up on the couch, sound asleep. You smiled, grabbing a throw blanket from one of the armchairs, draping it over her body. She had to be tired, waking up at the same time as you. Unlike you, Krista was still a growing girl, meaning she needed more rest. You’d come back to wake her later, you told yourself. But for now, you’d let her sleep. It was only six, after all. The other campers weren’t due to be awake until eight.

After pouring yourself a fresh mug of coffee and adding your preferred amount of milk and sugar, you went back down to your office, slumping in your chair. You took a drink of your beverage slowly, your eyes falling onto the leftover paperwork. You blew a stream of air out through your lips as you pulled a sheet towards you, studying its contents. All this one required was your signature, so you gave it after reading it, setting it down with your other finished work.

You continued this monotonous routine until seven when your pile of work was depleted and you felt like tearing out your own teeth, but at least you were done. Your stomach rumbled, and you groaned. That donut had been tasty, but not enough to sate your appetite permanently. You still had an hour until breakfast. You stretched your arms above your head with a soft groan, your joints popping. The physical exhaustion from searching the woods last night as well as waking up from a nightmare had really drained you.

Regardless, you had work to do. You rose from your chair, looking down at your empty coffee mug in disdain. You didn’t need more caffeine, though, it would just turn your anxiety up to an eleven, and that wouldn’t do at all. You simply pushed your empty mug away, instead focusing on the stack of finished paperwork. You picked it up and stood after shuffling it into a neat pile, then crossed the hall to Levi’s office. He wasn’t in there, so you set the stack down on his desk, then went back into your own office.

This was getting boring. You drummed your fingers on the surface of your desk, staring blankly at your monitor. You’d minimized the browser you were using, revealing the desktop wallpaper. You hadn’t had the chance to change it, so it was still the blue and silver winged camp emblem on an army green backdrop. Below that, the camp name was written in neat text, as well as the founding date. You figured you’d have to look for a new wallpaper, but you didn’t know what to choose.

You looked up when you heard footsteps, and you watched as Levi came from the direction of the break room with a mug in his hand and went into his office. He regarded the papers you’d left on his desk, picking them up and tossing them onto his keyboard, then sitting down and setting his mug at his elbow. He looked up at you, balancing his cheek on his fist.

“I made tea,” he stated, “help yourself.”

You were slightly taken aback by that. “O-oh. Thank you.”

Levi simply nodded before picking up his mug in that weird way he did and taking a sip. You knew he hadn’t made tea for you, per se, but it still filled your stomach with butterflies. You were about to get up to pour yourself a cup, but you were interrupted by the sound of the door to the front room opening. Hange leaned her head in, undoubtedly standing in an incredibly precarious position, and sure enough, she toppled forward onto her stomach with a grunt.

“Crazy woman,” you heard Levi mutter, and you stood up to help Hange to her feet.

“Thank you, my dear,” Hange said, then turned to Levi.

You looked behind Hange to see none other than Eren standing there. He was dressed in jeans and a faded band tee, converse on his feet. His eyes were slightly bleary, and you guessed he hadn’t woken up very long ago. He wasn’t exactly an early riser, so you were more than a little surprised to see him here. Jade green hues flicked to your face, and he offered you a half wave, but he didn’t smile.

Rude.

You stared at your brother for a few more seconds before glancing back to Hange.

“Eren would like to talk to you, Levi,” Hange said, and Eren stepped into the hallway, keeping his back to you.

Levi canted his head lightly, his expression largely unchanging save for the slight raise of his eyebrows. “Is there a problem, Jaeger?”

Eren glanced over his shoulder at you, and you gave him a confused look, but he simply turned back to Levi.

“Eren?” You asked, but he ignored you. That was unusual. Eren and you were close, and even if he was mad at you, he didn’t ignore you like that. The boy had a temper, but he wasn’t an outright asshole, especially to his family. Something was up.

Levi inclined his head in your direction. “Your sister wants your attention, Jaeger.”

But Eren ignored that, too, beginning to walk into Levi’s office. Levi gave you a lightly puzzled look. You rolled your eyes, grabbing Eren’s arm and tugging him into your office. He was acting weirder than normal and you wanted some answers. Eren made a sound of protest, but he didn’t struggle.

“You can have him in a minute, Levi, but let me have a word with my brother first.”

Levi put his hands up. “I won’t meddle in family affairs. Take your time.”

You shut the door after you, then rounded on Eren. You gestured to the door, then at your brother, eyebrows furrowed.

“Okay, what the hell?” You asked, and Eren shifted uncomfortably. He seemed to be searching for things to say, before he finally settled.

“This doesn’t concern you, (Y/N),” he said, using that quiet voice he always did when he was trying to end a discussion.

Worry gripped your heart, and you sat lightly on the edge of your desk. “Is someone being mean to you? I’m your sister, Eren, talk to me!”

Eren blinked at you, surprised. “Huh? No! It’s nothing like that. It’s just not your problem, that’s all. It’s got to do with Jean. He’s been bothering Mikasa, and I wanted Levi to talk to him about it since the bastard won’t listen to me. Y’know, since Levi is the boys’ counselor, maybe Jean will listen to him.”

You didn’t totally buy that, but you had seen Jean staring at Mikasa’s ass during the feast last night, so even if Eren wasn’t telling the whole truth, he was more or less telling half of it. Nonetheless, you decided to humor your brother.

“I dunno,” you said, “I could say something to him. I’ve been known to scare men.”

Eren smiled briefly. “I know. Just let Levi handle it. No offense.”

You shrugged, deciding that maybe it was just a guy thing you wouldn’t understand. “Yeah, none taken. Go on, then. I have to choose a desktop for that computer.”

Eren nodded seriously. “Important work. Also, I called mom last night to tell her how we were doing. Your turn tonight.”

And with that, he stepped out of your office and into Levi’s, leaving you with more questions than answers. You blew out a slow stream of air as you cracked your door and peered out, listening to the muffled voices of your brother and boss.

“Watcha’ doin?”

Hange suddenly appeared in the door crack, sending your heart into your throat and your legs out form under you.

“Christ, (Y/N),” Hange said, opening the door and kneeling to help you up, “you’re so jumpy. Are you alright?”

You sighed. “Yeah. It’s nothing. You just startled me. Do you have any idea what Eren wanted?”

Hange shook her head. “No. He didn’t tell me. All he said was that he needed to talk to Levi and that was it. Levi’s his counselor, so if he has a problem, he came to the right person. What did he tell you when you pulled him into your office?”

“He told me that Jean was bothering Mikasa and he wanted Levi to talk to him,” you replied.

“And you bought that?” Hange asked.

“Truthfully?” You sighed, “no. Well, kind of. Jean approached me at the feast last night to call me the more attractive sibling in order to piss Eren off, so I wouldn’t put it past him.”

Hange leaned against the door, crossing her arms. “Well, (Y/N), he’s a teenage boy. But he isn’t wrong, you’re an absolute knockout.”

You frowned. “That’s not the point.”

Hange shook her head. “No, not really. But lemme ask you something, my dear.”

“What would that be?” You asked, circling your desk to sit down in the chair again, and Hange sat in one of the chairs by the door. She rested her wrists on her knees, lacing her fingers together, her gaze intense.

“Tell me,” she said, “what is it you’re worried about?”

Uh-oh. She was doing it again. She was looking at you in the way she did when she knew something was up and you were holding back. It was sometimes like she could see right into your head.

You took a deep breath. “Be more specific?”

Hange pushed her glasses into place, their lenses catching the new morning light, blocking your view of her eyes.

“Right,” she said, “what are you worried about Eren talking to Levi about?”

Your brows furrowed. “Nothing. He can talk to Levi if he wants. But I’m his sister and if he needs something... I dunno, I just thought he’d come to me. He was acting weird, though. I live with him. I know Eren, and I know what he does when he lies or hides something. I think he was telling the truth about Jean, but I also think there’s something else he isn’t saying.”

Hange clapped her hands together. “Bingo. There’s a good girl. Now, what do you think that is?”

You shrugged. “I have no idea. Maybe Eren really did tell the whole truth and I’m being paranoid.”

Hange canted her head. “Maybe. But didn’t you say you knew what he did when he was lying?”

“This is making my brain hurt,” you groaned, your fingers carding through your hair, “I’m letting it go. Eren can do what he wants. I have to go wake up the girls, anyway. Would you mind checking on Krista for me? And take her to see Rico?”

Hange rose from her chair with a shrug. “Whatever you say, (Y/N). Of course, I’ll take care of Krista. Rico left a memo at the front desk to remind us to bring Krista to see her anyway. I’ll see you at breakfast.”

You managed a smile. “Yeah, see you then.”

Hange left you alone in your office, and you sat in silence to collect yourself for a few moments before getting up with a sigh. You pushed open your office door, eyes fixing on the one leading to Levi’s. You could hear the low baritone of his voice on the other side, mingling with the slightly higher tenor of your brother’s voice. Their words were muffled, rendering you unable to make out what they were saying, and while you maybe have briefly considered leaning close to listen in, you reminded yourself that Eren’s business was his and you needed to butt out.

This was between him and Levi. If he was hiding something, it was probably for a good reason. You shook the thoughts from your head as you went into the front reception room, then out the doors and onto the path.

The sun was rising, casting warm golden light through the tree branches in scattered bursts. The sky was mottled with delicate clouds, their backdrop made up of crushed tangerine hues, as well as faint teals and soft lavender splashes. The morning sun felt nice on your face, warm and pleasant, and you sighed. It may be pleasant now, but it was sure to be a scorcher. The birds were singing in the trees, and you watched as a goldfinch darted over your head, its buttery yellow feathers shining like the precious metal it was named after in the light.

It was a peaceful morning, and as you watched the world wake up around you, that peace replaced your restless thoughts, calming you. Squirrels scurried across the pathways and up the trees, chasing each other and gathering food. The squirrels were used to the campers, so it wasn’t surprising when one ran straight up to you, pausing for a moment to see if you’d feed it, then turning and bounding into the forest and out of sight when it realized you didn’t have anything to give it. You made a mental note to stock up on almonds and walnuts to give the squirrels. There were vending machines in the cafeteria that had packages of them.

You made your way up the road to your cabin. The surrounding cabins were just beginning to wake up, their lights flicking on, movement in the windows. Your cabin was dark and still. Nobody was awake yet, sans you and Krista. You walked up the steps and onto the porch, pushing open the door and not bothering to be quiet since you were waking the girls anyway. You switched the light on, clapping your hands.

“Okay,” you said, “good morning, girls. Breakfast is starting soon, so get dressed and shower if you need to, then come down to the mess hall. Your schedules for the week will be passed out after you all finish eating. The showers are across the road from us, just beside the mess hall. Come on, everyone up!”

The girls began to stir, and Sasha groaned, pulling her blanket up over her head.

“Five more minutes,” she slurred, her voice thick with sleep.

“You wanna miss breakfast?” You asked.

Sasha sat up so fast it made you jump, and she looked at you with a predatory glint in her eyes. Without speaking, she got out of bed and stretched, then grabbed her shoes and tied them on. She grabbed her shower bag and a fresh set of clothes from beneath her bed and was out the door before you could say anything else. You knew Sasha loved to eat. Food was one of her biggest motivators, so this wasn’t surprising, at least not to you.

You glanced around the room, watching Mikasa emerge from her blanket cocoon. Her hair looked like a woodland animal had taken up roost in it, and there were sheet marks on the cheek that had been against her pillow. She yawned, rubbing at her eyes. She then pushed the blankets back and climbed down the ladder leading up to her bed. She pulled her bag from beneath Sasha’s bed, which was below hers, and after a muttered good morning, she trudged out the door to take a shower. The rest of the girls more or less followed her example, and after grabbing the lanyard your badge hung from, as well as your bag, you went through the door as well.

“Hey, (Y/N).”

You turned to see Ymir. Her hair was a frizzy cloud around her head, but her eyes were alert.

“Where’d Krista go?”

You hiked your bag farther up your shoulder. “She came with me to the administrative building this morning since she woke up and couldn’t fall back asleep. I asked Hange to take her to see Rico in the medical cabin, so she’s probably there now. You can go catch her if you—”

Ymir pushed past you without saying another word, shower bag in hand and a purpose in her step. You watched her retreating figure as she strode across the lawn, mouth still half open.

“...Want.” You finished lamely.

Rude, but okay. You’d let it slide. You were pretty sure there was something between Ymir and Krista. You wouldn’t be surprised if they knew each other before coming to camp. It was sweet.

You sighed, heading down the front steps and onto the path and making your way towards the mess hall. A few campers passed you as you walked, and you greeted them, met with halfhearted replies. You spotted Armin, his hair still damp from a shower. He was wearing a pair of jeans, rolled up at the cuffs, with a white button down. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, the top few buttons undone. Red converse were on his feet. You waved cheerfully to him, and he waved back, crossing the road to walk alongside you.

“Good morning,” he said, “have you seen Eren?”

“Oh,” you said, “yeah. He came to the administration building earlier to talk to Levi, but I don’t know where he went after that.”

Armin sighed. “Ah, yeah. He said something about needing to talk to Levi.”

You glanced at Armin out of the corner of your eye. “Any idea why?”

You noticed a light tense in his shoulders, but it disappeared as quickly as it came. “Not really,” he said finally, “something to do with Jean.”

Liar.

Armin was a smart guy. He had a strategic mind that rivaled a military commander and he was excellent at bluffing and keeping secrets. But you’d known him since he was a kid, when those skills hadn’t yet fully developed. You knew when he wasn’t telling the truth. His tells remained the same. Even though you believed him about Jean, you knew there was something else. But Armin was like a locked safe when he was trusted with a secret, and it would be a waste of time and energy to try and pry that out of him.

So instead, you sighed. “Levi told me he’s kind of a douchebag. I know Eren went to Levi, but I’ll give him a talking to as well.”

Armin nodded, a smile gracing his lips. “Thank you, (Y/N). That would probably be a good idea.”

The two of you parted ways when you reached the mess hall, which was at less than half capacity. There were clusters of campers situated at tables, the rest of them either still getting up or showering, presumably. You served yourself some waffles with butter and syrup, adding some fruit to the side. You also grabbed a glass of orange juice.

After you were served, you headed to the front counselor’s table, sinking into a chair and using your knife and fork to slice a bite sized piece of one of your waffles before putting it in your mouth. You watched over the hall as more campers trickled in, as well as counselors. Hange seemed to be skipping breakfast, and with the hangover she had, you didn’t blame her. You reminded yourself to grab her something to eat before breakfast was over.

Petra drifted in, her hazel brown eyes sleepy. She was wearing a simple blue t-shirt with shorts and hiking boots. After serving herself, she sat down beside you, yawning widely before digging into her food.

“Morning,” you said, and she repeated the word.

“I take it you didn’t sleep well?” You asked, and the look she gave you was one of defeat.

“I got some younger campers, and even after I told them it was lights out, they talked until one in the damn morning. How much energy do ten year olds have?”

You stopped yourself from snickering. “No parents around means more freedom, Petra. You’ve gotta be assertive. Don’t let a bunch of kids walk all over you.”

Petra groaned. “I know. It’s the first day, I’m just adjusting.”

“Well,” you said, “if you wanna have a nap in your office after breakfast, I won’t tell Levi.”

Petra pressed her palms together in a praying gesture. “You’re an angel.”

“Won’t tell me what?”

You and Petra both yelped in surprise, and you rubbed at your temples with your thumbs.

“I really need to put a bell on you. I was joking before, but now I’m serious.”

Levi didn’t look amused. “What’re you hiding, (Y/N)?”

You looked to Petra, who was now very interested in her pancakes. You sighed.

“Petra was kept awake all night by the campers in her cabin, so I said if she took a nap I wouldn’t say anything.”

Levi sat beside you, which was another surprise of the day, but you brushed it off.

“That’s fine,” he said.

Petra looked surprised. “What? Really?”

Levi shrugged, slicing off a section of one of his waffles. “Yeah. It isn’t your fault the shitty brats were shitty. Just finish your paperwork by one.”

Petra looked about ready to cry. “Thank you so much.”

She finished her food in record time, then hobbled out of the mess hall, saying something about setting an alarm before she was gone.

“That was kind of you,” you said, and Levi narrowed his eyes at you.

“Are you saying I’m unkind?”

You considered his question. “Occasionally.”

“Fuck you, too.”

You snickered. “I rest my case.”

You considered bringing up the conversation with Eren, but you had a feeling that trying to get anything from Levi would be like trying to break into a bank vault with nothing but a hairpin. In other words, it would be nearly impossible. So you gave up on that, deciding to bring up what you were told was talked about instead.

“So, Jean?”

Levi grunted. “What about him?”

“Eren said he’s bothering Mikasa.”

“He did say that, yes. Your point?”

It was your turn to narrow your eyes this time. “So, are you going to talk to him? It’s affecting one of my campers. I would like to be involved, too.”

Levi’s grey-blue irises scanned your face in a manner that made you mildly uncomfortable. “This is a problem I’ll deal with. Don’t trouble yourself with it.”

You blinked. You sort of expected that response, but you were regardless a little surprised. “Levi, I would like to—”

“No,” he said. His voice was calm but firm, driving the point home that this wasn’t up for debate. “I said I’d handle it.”

You pressed your lips together lightly, telling out a sigh through your nose. “Fine. Whatever you say.”

Except no, not whatever he says, you were talking to Jean anyway. If Mikasa, someone you considered a good friend, was affected by this, you wanted to be involved. You made up your mind that you’d talk to Jean on the hike. You had around two and a half hours before that started around eleven, so you’d be able to figure out what to say.

You and Levi finished eating in relative quiet, and you got up first, putting your plate and silverware with the dirty dishes by the kitchen door. You have Levi a mock salute as you headed for the doors, and he rolled his eyes. You smiled when you turned away, then went back through the line to pick Hange up some food. You then walked to the front of the mess hall, pushing open the front doors and stepping outside.

It was mildly humid, and you glanced at the sky, which was still clear for the most part, save for the occasional stray cloud. Humidity was never good for a hike, so you hoped it would clear up by eleven. And you had more work to do. You let out a soft groan as you headed back down the hill to the administrative building, watching as campers began to mill about the grounds, finished with their breakfast. You’d already taken a nap in your office that morning, even if it was on accident, so even if you were extremely tired (and you were) you doubted Levi would be as lenient with you as he had been with Petra. You needed another cup of coffee.

You blew a stream of air out through your lips, focusing on not dropping Hange’s food.

It was going to be a busy day.
