HG Wells was a busy, busy man. Always darting from one task to the other with seemingly no pause for a breath. Working night and day, so much so that a certain author started to take note of his constant hustle.

“Wells, Wells, Wells.” Ernest called, walking into the attic, full of wires and spare scraps of metal and various other… bits and pieces that he probably shouldn’t touch. “What’s keeping you so busy?”

The inventor poked his head over a machine that probably wasn’t supposed to be puffing out that much dark soot, pulling his goggles over his forehead and wiping the sweat off his brow. “This is… hang on, no…” He gestured to the bottle of whiskey in Ernest’s hand. “Leave that there. It could spill.”

“Wow, obsessive much?” He rolled his eyes, but put the bottle down on a precarious stack of books. “What’re you doing?” 

HG rolled his eyes in return, gesturing to the machine. “It’s a theoretical device that would… in theory, of course, allow the user to rid an area of dust. It’s incredibly efficient, it uses a vacuuming, suction-like force in order to--”

“Do you always look this sexy while rambling, or is that just the alcohol?” Ernest interrupted him, grinning at the bewildered look that crossed the inventor’s face. “What?”

“You… can’t just… say that!” HG spluttered, but Ernest raised an eyebrow. 

“And why can’t I?” He retorted, to which HG just gapes, trying to come up with words. He opens his mouth a few times, then shuts it, almost indignantly. 

With an exasperated glance to the sky, then to his machine, then back at Ernest, HG finally found words. “You’ve finally rendered me speechless, Hemingway.” He said softly, giving a small, lopsided smile. “Proud of you for that.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Ernest rolled his eyes, but he was grinning. “Can I kiss you, or what…?”

“A romantic.” HG chuckled, then moved some of the bits and pieces of the machine out of the way to stand, dusting off his slacks, meeting Ernest halfway when he pulled the inventor into a deep kiss, messy, Ernest’s hands carding through his hair in a way that wasn’t at all unpleasant.

They pulled away after a few moments, HG breathing heavily, shakily. “Was that…?”

“Yeah.” Ernest whispered, then pulled him back in by the tie.

I have to go back to school in a week and I think I’m gonna actually pass out I feel so sick just thinking about it

Like I have to go back to that fucking concrete prison block (I’m not even joking my entire school is concrete, barely any grass or trees, plus they’re putting in a new building so it’s gonna be noisy all the fucking time). On top of that I have to see all the homophobic dicknozzles and my shitty ex and shitty ex-friends who deserted me when V dumped me, on top of that a boy who bullied me a few years ago is moving to my school and I already know who he’s gonna befriend and bully me with again.

I feel viscerally unwell and I’m not even there yet, my anxiety is spiking and it feels like there’s nothing I can do even though I know how to hangs my anxiety most of the time

(Very mild TW: medical assistance, Type one diabetes, blo0d mentioned, medication)

So my mum has Type one (no not the one you get when you’re overweight, the one that requires constant monitoring and manual correction for blood glucose levels) and she’s had it basically my entire life. I think I had just turned 5 when she got her diagnosis, so I’ve always had this thought that I was obligated to care for her, and I have done in the past. Whether that’s learning how to inject pure glucose whilst calling for help if she gets dangerously low on a hike(thankfully this has never happened). Or fill, connect and apply her OmniPod or go to a shop and buy her a coke or take a sugar sachet from the tables for her, sit in the car on the side of the road with her while her blood sugar levels out and it’s safe for her to drive again.

And honestly I don’t care about all that, it’s basically second nature now. It’s the fear I have around it that I hate. I hate that I get nightmares that her pod and sensor stop working or scan wrong and she doesn’t get it sorted in time, it’s scary thinking about your mum collapsing because her life saving devices didn’t feel like it that day. And the most annoying part is my brother (who’s 7 years older) it was never really his job, he doesn’t know all the stuff about it that I do, I’ve been her carer since the beginning. Like even when I was really little and she was taking a million different pills and vitamins I would always help her with which ones to take on each day, a job I have also done for my dad my entire life, whom has heart disease and has to take very specific pills each day and has a weekly planner to organise which ones to take on what day, so I’d always help him fill it at the end of the week (much less now but it’s definitely like a core memory).

So uhh yeah

I was at the shops with my mate today (it's his birthday and he's about to move to the other side of the country so it was very important we were doing this) anyway we were in a shop and these two people turned a corner and literally said "Ooo queers" then we chatted in the middle of the shop for like 40 minutes.

It was beautiful
