The Barcode: A Digital Identity
20171114180115174314120113141303141714 by © 2024 Carlos Maldonado Romero, is a 99k 4D artwork exploring the intersection of individuality and commodification in the digital age. The piece uses the MSI barcode as a metaphor for the reductive transformation of complex identities and artistic expressions into mere commodities, reflecting a society that often values efficiency over depth.
Set against the backdrop of key cultural hubs like Asheville, Atlanta, Nashville, New York City, and Seattle, this work blends organic nature elements like pothos plants and the grandeur of a volcan, sky, and galaxy, with stark geometric forms and chrome textures. The morse code and infinity symbol subtly embedded in the piece evoke themes of continuity and universal connection, hinting at a deeper narrative.
As an aerotype—a term suggesting a fusion of traditional photography and digital manipulation—this artwork challenges conventional notions of art and photography, aligning with the futurist ethos of the Artist Revolution of the 2020s. The bright, white tones and 3D elements create a dynamic interplay between light and form, enhancing the viewer's engagement with the piece.
The glass-like structures in the artwork symbolize transparency and fragility, contrasting with the robust, organic elements, and highlighting the delicate balance between technology and nature. This fine art piece not only serves as a gallery or museum centerpiece but also speaks to broader cultural conversations around digital identity, ownership, and creativity.
Carlos Maldonado Romero, a Mixtec indigenous artist, channels his heritage and modern sensibilities into this work, offering a poignant critique of contemporary digital culture. As a creative producer and art director, Romero's vision transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to contemplate the infinite possibilities of the universe and our place within it, as symbolized by the avatar-like presence in the artwork.
For collectors and enthusiasts of 100K commercial photography and fine art, this piece stands as a testament to the power of art to question, inspire, and redefine our understanding of the digital world.

2020. Who can forget 2020?
January started off normal - I went to a photography convention in Nashville, then my aunt and uncle came to visit. February brought a fun weekend trip to Portland and another two photography conferences but in Vegas and Atlanta this time. Then on March 8, 2020 I got home from the photography conferences and the world shut down. I remember traveling and worrying about the start of COVID-19 since we had the first infected in Seattle and I was traveling (feeling fine) but concerned I'd be unaware and bringing something elsewhere. It was a strange feeling - but not nearly as strange as coming home and having that be the last contact with the outside world for quite some time. March 2020 we got the kids all desks and our upstairs turned into a schoolhouse with 3 kids trying to remote learn with two remote working parents.
So catching up on 2020. My mom still came to visit in March because things were not FULLY shut down around the country (if only we knew what was coming...) We did lots of reading, daily walks, and youtube yoga. Viv's exploration of baking began and April brought more crafts, zoom meetings, engineering projects, a simple easter at home, and a plethora of wine and sunsets on the deck.
May 2020 included puzzles, butterfly kits, hiking, swimming, rollerblading, driveby birthday celebrations. It was the first time my parents didn't get to come out for a birthday (Conner's).
In June, we were hesitantly over the whole quarantine thing. We did some serious quarantine and testing in order to finally have some fun. We went to Chelan with the Gonens to celebrate Ari's birthday then later that month we snuck away to Seabrook with the Gilberts who was had been quarantining with.
Finally, just in time for Claire's birthday we also did make it back to Michigan and stayed for the first few weeks of July since there was nothing going on back in Washington but we did make it back to celebrate Dottie's first birthday.
August 2020 we had an amazing day trip to Westport and this was the beginning of our dream to have a plot of land on the ocean. Claire learned how to ride a two-wheel bike. We spent a ton of time down at the lake keeping cool and the dog park running around.
September brought our annual Labor Day camping trip after missing Memorial Day with friends, we were all so excited to be together outside. Then entry back to the torture of remote school from home. We put Claire into a full-day in-person preschool because the spring taught us that we could not work, parent and teach 3 kids from home in different grades. It was the best decision we made.
October we went to a pumpkin patch and celebrated halloween and Lucia's birthday.
November we experienced the most isolated Thanksgiving ever but we made the best of it with zoom.
We did end the month with our tree hunt and we ended up with a perfect crazy COVID tree that went all over the place and was as unpredictable as the year was.
December we celebrated Vivian's birthday at home with my parents and brother in town but without our usual visit to Snowflake Lane for the first time ever. We also celebrated at a cabin with friends after family took off.
This was when we started getting into skiing regularly and enjoying it as a whole family. As we entered 2021, we went about three times a week. It was the perfect COVID-safe activity outside and masked because of the cold.

wren whitewater ( fc: sofia carson )
24 years old from las cruces, new mexico and has been in atlanta for 5 years . currently working as a photographer at the atlanta post [ rachael, 27, EST, she/her ]
"Don't look don't look" the shadows breathe/ Whispering me away from you/ "Don't wake at night to watch her sleep/ You know that you will always lose this trembling adored/ Tousled bird mad girl"
TW: horror mention
@atlanta-rpgstarters
full name: wren winifred whitewater
birthdate: october 31st, 1995
age: 24
height: 5’4”
biography –
Growing up different hardly had a negative on Wren Whitewater, but it certainly concerned her peers more than she ever thought it might. Even as a young kid Wren knew that she was the opposite of most of the kids that were around her, liking things that could be considered “dark” or gruesome in trade with the princesses and unicorns other little girls seemed so fond of. Wren’s favorite things included cryptids and spirits, clearly leaning on the side of dark and spooky rather than pastel and pretty. Luckily for her, her parents and older brother accepted her in all of her spooky glory, and they made her feel like home more than anything.
Of course, growing up in New Mexico meant that believing in aliens and other-worldly beings were accepted. In fact, her family would take a yearly trip to Roswell for the UFO Convention, always too eager to participate in anything whimsical to keep them entertained. Everyone in Las Cruces thought the Whitewater family was weird, but they were a happy sort of weird. With that came the support of their children doing anything creative, which was how Wren picked up photography in the first palace. Being behind a camera meant she could shield herself from the outside world, and nobody judged her when she was behind the camera.
Now as an adult, Wren has taken up photography full time. Her personality has blossomed into one that’s more motherly than anything, and she’s the self-proclaimed Mother of the Weird Kids. She moved to Atlanta at nineteen and went to school for photography, knowing that she needed to get out of the eye of her peers in New Mexico. At this point, she’s been in town for five years and has settled in at the Atlanta Post as a photographer. Though it’s not her dream job, she at the very least gets to continue hiding behind the camera. On the weekends, she can often be found in her apartment drawing or watching horror movies, still just as obsessed with everything spooky as she was when she was a kid.
personality –
Positive: motherly, sensitive, accepting
Negative: honest, overprotective, lonely

Photo by Rebelroma Photography on Facebook!
Hello! I thought I would finally add a post here as an introduction!
My name is Rebecca and I am 31 years old. I live in Alabama with my boyfriend and our cat. I am a cosplayer who has been in the cosplay world since 2006 and I haven’t stopped yet! I mostly thrift all of my cosplays if I can find the pieces for them. If I can’t, then I try to save up for the costumes themselves, or commission them from a friend.
I used to dabble in photography, but I recently sold my camera since I never used it. I do enjoy taking photos of things on my phone, though. I’m a bit of a Funko Pop collector as well. I’ll have to share a photo of my collection soon!
What got me into the cosplay world? Well, I was at a friend’s house and he was playing Kingdom Hearts. I saw Kairi and immediately fell in love with the idea of dressing up like her! When I saw Kingdom Hearts 2 Kairi,I knew I had to cosplay her. I had a friend that I met, and she helped me go to my very first convention, Anime Weekend Atlanta. She even bought me the dress that Kairi wears in the second game! From then on I was absolutely hooked! I don’t think I’ll ever stop cosplaying.

From Bluegrass to Hip-hop: Faye Webster’s Sound Spans Atlanta’s Musical History
Photo: Eat Humans
Faye Webster isn’t an artist that adheres to the normal conventions of popular music. The 21-year-old singer, who has been writing music since the age of 14 and playing guitar for years before that, doesn’t feel the need to choose a genre in which she can pigeonhole her music. Rather, she lets her songs meander across the vast sonic field of her influences, creating a deliciously unorthodox cocktail of twinkling vocals, moaning pedal steel, and underplayed rap – because why choose between indie, Americana, and hip-hop when you can have all three?
At the age of 16, Webster independently wrote, recorded, and released her first LP, Run & Tell. The piece is an apt introduction to the singer, with 11 harmony-soaked tracks backed by acoustic and steel guitars stitching together a quilt that tells the story of the Atlanta-native’s southern upbringing. However, while this rustic style of music typifies one side of Atlanta’s history, Webster is not one to discriminate.
youtube
It’s well known that the Georgia capital has a thriving hip-hop scene, producing prolific acts like Run the Jewels, Future, and Outkast. On Webster’s third and most recent release, Atlanta Millionaires Club, the singer ensures she gives the nod to that portion of her musical influence. Though the record sports Webster’s dreamy indie vocal and the pedal steel and fiddle that adorns countless Americana records from generations past, Atlanta Millionaires Club sports R&B bass grooves and sultry horns on tracks like “Come to Atlanta” and even a feature from rapper Father on “Flowers.” Though this may sound off-putting on paper, these contrasting styles melt seamlessly into one another to form a bona fide textbook on Atlanta’s musical history.
In addition to borrowing from hip-hop to add a unique flare to her music, Faye Webster has made a name for herself in the genre through her work as a photographer. During her one semester at Belmont University before dropping out and returning to Georgia to pursue music full time, the singer took a photography class and developed a love for the art form. Combining this with her passion for music, Webster gained recognition in Atlanta’s hip-hop community via her stunning portraits of artists like Lil Yachty, Migos’ Offset, and D.R.A.M.

All in all, the Peach State native’s music sounds like she bought up the whole music store – guitars, horns, turntables, and all – and used every piece of gear to turn a record into a guidebook on Atlanta culture. If you like artists who play by their own rules, keep your eyes on Faye Webster.
