Just some episode 1 ramblings:

The establishing shots of the show are beautiful right out the gate. Breathtaking. They did a really good job fleshing out the locations.

Not gonna lie, I did worry about the bending looking a little less impactful in live action, but that's not the case. The choreography and vfx work is stunning.

The genocide was brutal, and I was crying the entire time.

Also, people are being jackasses. Gran Gran did great. She really felt like a wise elder who's seen a lot in her time.

Sokka's sexism is also definitely there, don't fret. It actually kinda got to me more because it felt so realistic and you can get a better sense of where it comes from. Like, I have people in my life who act just like that, and it makes my skin crawl. That being said, I really liked it. Can't wait to see him evolve and if it affects Katara's storyline at all.

Speaking of Katara, I can already tell her arc is gonna be more of a slow burn and I love that. She's not exactly quiet and submissive, but she doesn't really question Sokka too much either. I have a feeling that as she progresses with her bending and steps into herself more, we'll see that build up of feminine rage and have her express herself more assertively.

Zuko is great! There's a desperation to him that's so palpable that it makes you slightly root for him without even knowing his backstory. Plus, Dallas Liu's martial arts skills are so good!! Whenever he bends, I'm stunned. He really is Zuko.

All of the actors are giving it their all and feel so true to the characters. I can't wait to see what they do with the rest of the story.

You have to figure that Aang is not the only Avatar who vowed to never use a certain element again after accidentally harming a loved one because of it. But I have to wonder if there's ever been an Avatar who kept that vow? Like one who did master all the elements, but refused to use one of them for the rest of their life.

why is zuko out here breaking every earth kingdom girls heart. he's simply existing and they can't resist his autistic rizz. hell he even got jet it transcends gender. he just wants to like. vibe. and also destroy the parts of himself he believes his abusive father hates so he can be loveable unaware of the fact he’d destroy himself in every way to do that. but mostly vibe. like guys going around thinking he's someone that doesn’t deserve any sort of love and doesnt even think anyone will accept any part of him and he’s just completely oblivious to the fact he’s the most eligible bachelor in the whole earth kingdom. the girls and the gays are drawn to his autism like moths to a fire, or i guess a fire nation prince. genuinely funniest thing like everyone he meets roughly his age harbours a massive crush on him and he’s completely oblivious to his autistic charms.

Just finished Episode 2.

So I do think the Sokka and Suki scenes are cute… and Kyoshi was 100% serving.

Katara feels robbed, and Aang too in aspects.

The moments it reflects the series as we know is when it’s at its best.

I actually find the fire nation far more interesting than the hero group right now.

My hubby and I started watching the new Atla. My 6 year old woke up from her nap right as Katara and Sokka started fishing. The gasp she let out when she realized it was Katara and Sokka on screen was absolutely adorable.

Really iconic of the live action to make the first 2 Earthbenders lesbians. Meaning Omashu was a city-state named after lesbians.

They definitely changed a lot, but tbh i like almost all of it. Just toning down the goofiness mostly.

I actually like that they got rid of Sokka's sexism and made it more of a protective older brother thing.

And his relationship with Suki more of a being intimidated by her thing

Sokka was really only sexist for a few episodes so i don't see why everyone freaked out about that.

We see it in a bit more detail in Season 3, but this really is the first time you get a sense of how the children of the Fire Nation really are taught to not only view their own Nation as the best, but see the others as scary enemies. They're reacting to the Ozai Puppet about to be attacked by the puppet of an Earth Kingdom soldier like they're watching a hero about to be attacked by a horrible monster.
