ABOUT
tw: domestic abuse, verbal abuse
Kat’s mom never wanted to be a mom and she spent most of Kat's life reminding her of it. Abby Anderson had wanted to get the hell out of dodge but every time she tried to leave, Pete would find a way to drag her back. Still, she was unhappy and made sure Kat knew just how much. After all, she hadn't wanted to get stuck with an abusive piece of shit, have him show face around town, only to come home and let loose his anger. Kat remembers the first time her mom tried to leave and how her dad slashed her tires. She'd only been eight at the time but she didn't blame her. She'd have gotten out too if she could.
Instead, she found ways to be out of the house, running around Center Hill with her three cousins Dusty, Danny and DJ, who needed out of a broken home too. Mischief was never far when she was with them, chaos outside the home providing a welcome distraction from the chaos within. She’d waste hours with them and their friends, avoiding going home when she could until she was sure Pete would be passed out on the couch or her mother was holed up in the main bedroom. Kat would sneak into her room and hope he was gone in the morning and that her mom had forgotten she existed.
Her dad had had a shitty life and he, like his brother, decided to take it out on the people closest to him. Her mother had always wanted a different life, free of the things that kept her tied to Center Hill. Kat got used to shattered glass and angry back hands from her father and blunt comments about how she'd ruined her mother's life (and figure) by being born. She got used to both, but she got angry. She used to curl up with a pack of six-month old frozen peas pressed to her cheek and dream of the ways her dad could die and her mother disappear.
As she got older, Kat finally found her voice. Like a wild thing, she’d scream and throw things back at her dad, their house alight with noise and brimming with anger. She's spit venom at her mom. She resented her but she hated him. She hated Bobby. She hated the fact that their shitty lives became her and her cousins’ shitty lives.
Eventually her dad didn't come home one day, skipping town because he owed money to the Reapers. Her mother was besides herself, blaming Kat and her recently revealed teen pregnancy by way of one Hunter Cross. She kicked Kat out before eventually skipping town herself. Kat was faced with a tough choice, knowing that one option would forever change her life. It would've been easier to terminate but Kat wanted to prove she was different than her mother and father. She'd raise her kid to be better than she was, and she'd love them harder than she'd ever been loved herself.
It didn't matter that Asher was born early, or that there were complications, Kat knew she'd do anything for him. And so she did. The rest of her life was devoted to giving him a better one than she had. For two years she had her grandmother around, helping out with him while Kat worked hard to pay medical bills, taking any job she could before settling in at Center Hill Cuts.
But nothing is ever easy and the Reapers came calling for payment on behalf of her father, having given a grace period. Eventually she worked out a deal and when the owner of Center Hill Cuts retired and left it to her, she was able to pay off her dad's debts faster.
Over the next few years, Kat kept the shop up and running in Center Hill, paying up to the Reapers and, eventually, deciding to join in. She needed support and the community they provided meant more to her during her early years raising Asher than she could admit.
Since then, the shop has become a Center Hill staple, painstakingly revitalized to be a place where people could hang, doors open and music playing into the late hours of the night. In the past few years, it’s also become a secondary cache for some Repears goods (drugs and weapons) as a front and back up in case of any raids on the clubhouse. What had started out as a shitty debt to pay has paid for itself in what she’s gained through the Reapers: a community of people who looked out for each other. And while she doesn't want Asher involved directly, she's comforted by the fact that she knows that they'll look out for him as one of their own as well.
EXTRA
Kat doesn’t have a fancy degree, but she knows how to hustle and has an abundance of  common sense, both of which have led to a successful business she’s proud to call her own.
She hadn’t spent as much time watching her dad work but thankfully, he had one employee, an older man named Bernard, who showed her the ropes when she inherited the shop.
There’s a cat that comes by the barber shop and sits on the stoop every day. She’s named him Stoop Cat officially but most people call him Stoop.
When her dad left, she tossed all of his shit and claimed the trailer for herself. It became a space where her cousins could crash too since her uncle was like a dark cloud that wouldn’t let up.
She’s remained close to her cousins and thinks of them more like weird pseudo-brothers. Hiding her spare key from Dusty, she still relents when he needs a place to crash, but only after hosing him down (if she can get to him before he sneaks in…). When Danny was in prison, she’d visit, bringing comics (even though they’re stupid) and was there to pick him up when he got out. With DJ, she gives advice when he asks (and sometimes when he doesn’t) and has been known to stop into Little Goat to lend a hand if she can. She’s also been known to chase Dusty down when he’s snagged some cash, or make fun of Danny’s mispronunciations for a week, or jokingly give DJ a bottle of Xanax with a giant bow for his birthday.

I think Mitski said it’s okay to kill yourself
I went to her concert last night at the Fox in ATL, and in her intro she addressed the audience in the terraces, “not too high is it? Do you hear the call of the void? Don’t answer! Or at least don’t do it during my show, you can do that on your own time”

TONY SHHNOW SHARES NEW ALBUM OUT THE WOODS
Tumblr media
The torchbearer for Atlanta’s contemporary mixtape culture and highly-influential "plugg" genre, Tony Shhnow has just shared his new album, Out the Woods and new video, "RollAnotha1". The new release arrives on the heels of his guest verse on “On God” alongside Earl Sweatshirt, from MIKE and Tony Seltzer’s project Pinball. Since his 2020 breakout hit “Vet” (13M+ Streams), Tony Shhnow has taken the reins from prolific Southern Hip-Hop icons like Gucci Mane and Jeezy, releasing multiple mixtapes per year including his critically-acclaimed projects Kill Streak and Reflexions. Emerging as the fresh new face of Atlanta’s flourishing underground, Tony Shhnow’s trance-like sound has influenced his city and beyond with tracks like "Don't Look At Numbers" (5M+ Streams) featuring Brent Faiyaz and the Cashcahe!-produced “real runtz” (15M+ Streams). Embodying everything that’s made Atlanta the Mecca of modern Hip-Hop, from genre-defying visual aesthetics to boundary-shattering flows, Tony Shhnow’s first full-length release of 2024, Out the Woods is out now with features from 3AG Pilot, 1TakeJay and PNDRN, and skits performed by Big Rube and YoDogg.
youtube
Led by the singles "Tryna See" and "Watch", Out the Woods embodies the classic ATL mixtape feel, seeing Tony Shhnow return to his roots with a more traditional "plugg" sound that’s accentuated by rapid-fire flows and clever bar work over euphoric production. From a regional star to a key player in the national Hip-Hop landscape, Tony Shhnow has been spreading his wings and working with artists outside of his typical sphere while making his presence felt on the scene during New York Fashion Week, where he was dressed for the Ksubi x Trippie Redd presentation and sat front row for ANNA BOLINA’s FW24 runway show. While he was in the city he also made an appearance at The Lot Radio where he premiered a recent single on Anabelle Kline’s mix for That Good Shit. Following artistic leaps on 2023’s vulnerable Love Streak and the gritty I Can't Feel My Face Too with Robb Bank$, and expanding his horizons through collaborations with TiaCorrine (“Boogie“) and Kenny Mason (“100 or Nun“) as well as MIKE & Earl Sweatshirt on the new “On God”, Tony Shhnow has widened his reach and proven his influence expands far beyond his ATL roots. Boasting an intro delivered by Big Rube, and features from frequent collaborator 3AG Pilot, West Coast spitter 1TakeJay and PNDRN, Out the Woods is out now just in time for Tony Shhnow to set off on his upcoming headlining tour which kicks off in the city on date.

BASICS
Name: Devon Brooke
Age & Birthday: 31 & January 5, 1992
Gender/Pronouns: cis woman / she & her
Birthplace: Atlanta, Georgia
Time in Atlanta: 31 years
Neighborhood: Downtown
Association: Reapers
Occupation: EMT + Affiliate
Positive traits: Direct, Even-Keeled, Patient
Negative traits: Cynical, Mistrustful, Recalcitrant
Faceclaim:  Milena Tscharntke
ABOUT
Devon was born in Center Hill and grew up in an unstable home along with her brother, Dominic. Both her parents, Allen and Mary, were criminals with ties to The Reapers and it seemed like trouble could find them anywhere. She and Dominic were in and out of the system whenever they were locked up and, eventually, they were deemed wholly unfit to maintain custody of both of them. CPS put them in the foster care system, determining that that was better than a home with loving parents who sometimes got in trouble.
She put on a brave face whenever they moved homes, but would maintain a steady dose of cynicism and mistrust because she never thought it would last long. And she was right. They ended up being split up a few times over the years and those were the worst months for Devon. She had to learn to speak up for herself, to stay calm and bide her time.
Once her brother aged out of the system, she hoped he could take her in, but it’s never that simple and his involvement with the Reapers disqualified him from being a real guardianship candidate. Devon continued to be shuffled around and one family refused to let Dominic talk to her, not wanting him to be a bad influence. She made their life a living hell, defiance running through her veins as she demanded to see her brother the next time he came around. The family shuffled her a week later. The only truly nice family she was with was the last one, who would invite Dominic over as well so she could spend time with her brother after months of not seeing him.
This family encouraged her to look into jobs that didn’t require a college degree, so she knew there were options out there. Post-high school, she ended up enrolling to become an EMT, mostly because she read the basic qualifications and figured she fit. In the years since, she’s been reunited with Brooke and has lent a hand for Reaper related business here and there. She’s calm under pressure and knows he’s been involved for years so it doesn’t bother her but she can appreciate that he tries not to get her involved unless necessary. Devon likes that she can help people, especially people in their community.

Lyrics through the decade 2/10
I've decided to collect all the songs I've made through the last decade and share my favourite snippets with you guys. The pictures for the backgrounds will (as much as possible) be pictures I've taken the same year as the lyrics were written. The full lyrics may or may not be made official someday.
Part 2; 2014
In March 2014 I made my first song and so with the new found interest in songwriting I started experimenting a lot with different themes and moods of songwriting that I've tried to show here.
More info under the line
Stay creative, my fellow foxes 🦊💚
Song 1 (pic 1); Ray of Sunshine
First song I ever wrote with a very simple form of three verses in a row. I had tried to learn an ATL song on guitar yet in my failed attempt to learn the rhytmn I made a melody instead (very hard to sing but fun for what it is)
Featured lyric: Clouds outside are starting to gather
[and] my mind in as terrible weather.
Song 2 (pic 2); Female Dress Code
The second song I ever wrote and the first with a chorus - way more singable than RoS. I call it my 'Not Like Other Girls' song since I through the song describe this one girl I say is the opposite of me and how I don't understand women fashion.
Featured lyric: the best thing you can wear is a smile,
but has been hidden away for a while.
Song 3 (pic3); Instant Camera
A song about longing for a relationship (not autobiografical if I remember correctly). This song is special to me not in its themes but that I played it for the talent show at my high school and won first prize. I spend the money to buy a new guitar.
Featured lyric: As May turned to December,
We took photographs with your old instant camera
((Extended)) are you gonna burn them like orange autumn leaves?
Song 4 (pic4); Aubade
First song written on piano (and I made it a spanish intro because I could). As song about supporting a friend in need. Has some really cute lines in retrospect.
Featured lyric: Mirrorside lies! It reflects what eye sees not heart be.
Your flaws make you unique, and you're beautiful to me.
Song 5 (pic5); Train
An angst song. Written together with a friend that accidentally also came out as trans years later. It is a very angry song full of self dread and hate. Very teenager.
Featured lyric: I'll go down in history as another nobody
starring out in nowhere wasting time.
Song 6 (pic6); Corner
First song that I remember where I didn't make up a character to tell the story from but instead used my own experiences. Although some parts of it is half inspired by Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Feautured lyric: Observer. I'm lost in a world were I don't exist
((Extended)) no wonder why my voice's dismissed.
Song 7 (pic7); Stranger 7-10-8-1
Probably one of my strangest titles (pun intended) this song is about seeing the beauty in people around you and that we cannot know everybody's story. Also it is a cute little love song to all the strangers you might meet on your way.
Featured lyric: I have to say, you look good today.
We haven't met, but anyways
everybody's beautiful in their own way.
Song 8 (pic8); Not All Heroes Wear Capes Mine Plays Guitar
Can you tell that I liked Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco from the sheer length of this title x'D? This was a song made and dedicated to one of my then favourite musician, Jack Barakat from All Time Low which is funny when I read it now since a few bits of the lyrics can be used to describe one of my favourite musicians today (Jere Pöyhönen aka Käärijä)
Featured lyric: He's a ticking time bomb filled with bad jokes and contagious joy
Honorable mention:
Flower bud, he trives on the stage tonight.

Red Rebellion - Alpha Demo in Progress
Tumblr media
This year is moving so quickly as we're now preparing for our Red Rebellion Kickstarter campaign launch sometime next month if things go well... Here's hoping the rest of the demo production goes smoothly.
Although they are rather similar in wordcount length, there's so much more going for this alpha demo compared to Mizuchi's work. It requires a much larger starter soundtrack (10 custom songs), large cast brief intro (10 sprites), and more action-packed scenes (ATL trial error woes). There are also two "endings" (slightly different paths), so be sure to play both choices so you can see all of our CGs so far.
Feel free to follow us on Itch.io @ aikasacolle (for future RR demo) and wishlist the game on Steam!

REGULATORS: THE 25 DOPEST G-FUNK SONGS
By Stereo Williams
Published Mon, February 7, 2022 at 12:00 AM EST
West Coast Hip-Hop was already becoming a force.
In the late 1980s, artists like Ice-T, Too $hort, King Tee and N.W.A. were putting California on the Hip-Hop map and by the dawn of the 1990s, New York City's grip on the rap industry was no longer a given. Producers like Above The Law's Cold 187Um (aka Big Hutch), DJ Quik and most famously, Dr. Dre, began melding their love of the bass-heavy grooves of Parliament/Funkadelic and other bands like Zapp and the Ohio Players, into Hip-Hop beats. The sound that emerged came to be known as G-Funk, and after 1992, it took over the West Coast.
And, in turn, the West Coast would take over Hip-Hop, commercially. After Dr. Dre took G-funk to the mainstream with the success of his solo debut The Chronic, the sound was virtually everywhere. With the Super Bowl Halftime Show putting everyone in a West Coast spirit, we decided to rank the 25 Dopest G-Funk songs.
#26
"YOUR LOVE IS A 1.8.7." - THE WHITEHEAD BROS [BONUS SONG]
G-Funk was so big in 1993/1994, that it started to influence R&B. One of the most obvious examples was this single from The Whitehead Bros. With its squealing synths and references to murder and automatic weapons, it's a gangstafied love song.
#25
"SUMMERTIME IN THE LBC" - THE DOVE SHACK
One of the most criminally overshadowed groups of the era, The Dove Shack came out swinging with this breezy ode to Long Beach in the summer.
#24
"GETTIN' IT" - TOO $HORT W/PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC
"We gon' do it like this...on the last album," $hort Dog mournfully announced on this Parliament-assisted banger. Of course, we all know Too $hort was far from finished, but he delivered one of the most prominent latter entries in the G-Funk canon.
#23
"AIN'T NO FUN" SNOOP DOGGY DOGG FEAT. WARREN G, NATE DOGG AND KURUPT
Yes, it's one of the most problematic songs of all time. But what a banger! Daz ghost-produced this G-funk staple.

SUBMIT
#22
"DEEZ NUUUTZ" - DR. DRE FEAT. DAT NIGGAZ DAZ, NATE DOGG
Another classic from "The Chronic," and a song that spawned 30 years of eighth grader jokes, the Nate Dogg outro is just perfection.
#21
"ALWAYZ INTO SOMETHIN'" - N.W.A.
Probably the clearest indicator on N.W.A.'s notorious sophomore album "Niggaz4Life" of where Dr. Dre was about to take things with "The Chronic" a year later.
#20
"REAL MUTHAPHUCKKIN G'S" - EAZY-E FEAT. B.G. KNOCC OUT AND DRESTA
Eazy-E's diss aimed squarely at Dr. Dre and Death Row, this track was one of the best examples of Ruthless Records' brand of G-Funk, a sound the label rarely gets acknowledgment for.
#19
"INDO SMOKE" - MISTA GRIMM
A weed theme song for stoners circa 1993, this banger from the "Poetic Justice" soundtrack gave an indication of where Warren G was going to go production-wise. It also memorably provided an intro snippet on Snoop's "Doggy Style" a few months later.
#18
"DUSTED 'N' DISGUSTED" - E-40 FEAT. MAC MALL, SPICE 1, ANT BANKS, 2PAC
E-40 pulls together a who's-who of Bay Area legends for one of the most beloved singles in his catalog.
#17
"BLACK SUPERMAN" - ABOVE THE LAW
ATL's G-Funk legacy has always been overshadowed by the behemoth that is Death Row, but know that Cold 187um got there first and Ruthless sustained the sound alongside more high-profile camps.
#16
"LET'S PLAY HOUSE" - THA DOGG POUND FEAT. MICHEL'LE AND NATE DOGG
A song that would become a West Coast backyard boogie staple for years to come, it's Daz in top form, production-wise. But everyone brings their A game here.
#15
"DOLLAZ & SENSE" - DJ QUIK
Quik takes no prisoners on this infamous MC Eiht diss. Their feud would be one of West Coast Hip-Hop's most notorious, and this track is a classic entry.
#14
"AFRO PUFFS" - LADY OF RAGE FEAT. SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
The First Lady of Death Row came with it on this hit single from "Above The Rim," an ode to natural hair, gangsta shit and keepin' it funky.
#13
"DOGGY DOGG WORLD" - SNOOP DOGGY DOGG FEAT. THA DOGG POUND, THE DRAMATICS AND WARREN G
The pimptastic video is one of the most memorable of the 90s; and the groove is pure 70s funk, highlighting how deeply indebted to that era G-funk had been.
#12
"YOU KNOW HOW WE DO IT" - ICE CUBE
Cube's first album was Bomb Squad bombast and his second outing was looser, but still hard. After enjoying mainstream success with singles like "It Was A Good Day" and "Check Yo' Self," Cube dropped his most obviously G-Funk-leaning single in this West Coast classic.
#11
"LET ME RIDE" - DR. DRE FEAT. SNOOP DOGGY DOGG AND JEWELL
Dre's love of P-Funk was never more evident than on this Sunday driving anthem. The flip of "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" is perfect and it gave "The Chronic" another hit single.
#10
"THIS D.J."
Sure, the Nate Dogg-assisted "Regulate" is way more famous. But this follow-up single best sums up the sunny vibe of Warren G's particular brand of G-Funk. He kept it street, but also gave a more laid-back alternative to what was coming out of Death Row at the time. And this is a great summer song.
#9
"CALIFORNIA LOVE" [REMIX] - 2PAC W/DR. DRE FEAT. ROGER TROUTMAN
The original may be more famous, but it's the remix that's pure G-Funk. From that wobbly bassline to those squealy synths and the presence of an electro-funk legend in Roger Troutman himself.
#8
"WHO AM I? (WHAT'S MY NAME)" - SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
It's so P-Funk-like, it's like you can hear George Clinton sitting in the room. Nobody would ever have trouble remembering his name again. Shoutout to "Atomic Dog."
#7
"CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT" - ABOVE THE LAW FEAT. 2PAC AND MONEY B
Big Hutch (Cold 187Um) is one of the most underrated producers of all time. It's so funky and Pac and Money B bring some of that freewheeling D.U. energy to the proceedings.
#6
"BIG PIMPIN'" - THA DOGG POUND FEAT. SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
Daz's spin on G-Funk is so distinct. He goes deep into those bass grooves and this is one of his rubbery best. From the classic "Above The Rim" soundtrack, it helped announce that Tha Dogg Pound was up next.
#5
"DRE DAY" - DR. DRE W/SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
From that opening thump; you can feel Parliament's influence. This hit from "The Chronic" was the culmination of his sound up that point--and yes, a scorching diss of Dre's former bandmate Eazy-E (and Luke and Tim Dog).
#4
"REGULATE" - WARREN G FEAT. NATE DOGG
Where the G-Child proved to any late comers that he was more than just Dre's brother. The Long Beach product crafted his own uniquely melodic brand of G-Funk, and this classic epitomized it.
#3
"TONITE" - DJ QUIK
Another example of G-Funk before Death Row and "The Chronic," DJ Quik's breakout hit wasn't necessarily called "G-Funk" at the time, but when you listen to it now, it's clear that he's pointing towards where so much mainstream West Coast Hip-Hop was headed.
#2
"GIN AND JUICE" - SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
Another ode to getting drunk as hell, Snoop's second single cemented him as the most unique new voice in the game back in 1994. All these years later, it's a staple of the sound and era, a true G-Funk classic.
#1
"NUTHIN' BUT A 'G' THANG" DR. DRE FEAT. SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
"Deep Cover" obviously came first, but this was Death Row's first smash and the song that pushed G Funk into the mainstream. Snoop and Dre's chemistry was on fire, and the groove launched a thousand imitators.

ATLiens by Outkast (1996)
Let's talk OutKast! The duo came to life in 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, which explains the capitalization of ATL in the album title. I read somewhere that the reason OutKast called it ATLiens is because the duo felt out of place in the rap industry back in the 90s, because it was all about the West Side vs. the East Coast and no one was really paying attention to anything /-place else in regards to hiphop/rap culture. Almost as if you were an Extraterrestial if you weren't part of the biggest rap beef ever. (Source: trust me, I heard that, idk.)
And when I say duo, I'm of course referring to the rappers Big Boi and André 3000, aka André 3k or André 3 Stacks. They get a lot of credit for influencing the history of hiphop as a whole (abso-fucking-lutely) and if you don't know anything about OutKast, you'll most likely still be familiar with at least one of their songs, because as all good shit should be, they were inescapable if you had ears in the 2000s. Four of their most popular tracks (according to Spotify) are: Hey Ya!, Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean and The Way You Move.
Now onto the album itself. Just four years after founding the rap duo, they released ATLiens, which was their second album after 1994's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (Yes, this is the actual debut album title and it's hilarious). It went Platinum and Gold, which is in my opinion very well deserved. If you're into today's hiphop and aren't familiar with old stuff like this, please indulge. It's not like you have to bend over for Tupac, but get some culture in your playlist and you might find a few cool songs and the samples, inspirations and references to a lot of songs you're into already.
You May Die (Intro): A soft, calming piano intro with soulful vocals that really makes you wanna sit down and listen to this project - and embrace the experience of doing so.
Two Dope Boyz (In A Cadillac): "Greetings earthling!" This is what I expect of Old School hiphop! Nice rhymes, catchy flows and the melody is really chill.
ATLiens: my favorite bassline of all time (because it's fairly easy to learn for someone who has no fucking experience like me). The hook is so fucking catchy, it makes you wanna bump your head to it. "Softly, as if I play piano in the dark" and then you realize they took the drums out for this short section - it's little stuff like this that makes this production so good!
Wheelz of Steel: full of 90s-vinyl-scratching and I love it. OutKast manages to put out chill music even though they're totally murdering the mic - I respect that.
Jazzy Belle: When that drum hits in the beginning - woah. The soft vocals are amazing, I always find myself singing or atleast humming along. I don't know if "somber" is the right word, but if you were to take "somber" and abstract all negative meaning from it, then yeah, I feel like that would be it. It's a lights-out song (not in the sexy way) but not dark, it's intimate, but in a different way. And the way it fades out is just great.
Elevators (Me & You): I just love the way the percussions are the first thing you hear on this song. "One for the money, yessir. Two for the show." Back at it again with a bassline I mastered after months of sore fingertips. "If you don't move your feet, then I don't eat, so we like neck to neck." I don't know why this line always stood out to me, but I find it a very interesting, simple and blunt way to talk about upcoming artistry.
Ova Da Wudz: I know that my way of describing music is stupid and doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone who doesn't live in my head, but from all of ATLiens, I'd call this song the greasiest-smoothest. The bassline, the main melody (is it a synth? I don't know, I've never been to an OutKast studio session), it's slick, oily, you know? The squeaky sound effects in the end solidify this for me, I don't know. "It's some hoooes in this house!" - was that WAP's inspiration?
Babylon: You hear this male choir and you know shit's about to get deep. Turn the lights out again. "Though we're here, someday we will be gone". 3k's second verse isn't as deep as you'd expect it when you hear the choir for the first time, but then he hits you with: "They call it horny because it's devilish" - he's got a point tho. The evilization of sex is a pretty deep topic, I wish they'd expand on that more. And then these soulful back vocals that start as the chorus progresses and grows throughout the song: *chefs kiss*
Wailin: Groovy ass shit! Then again, soulful Cee-Lo vocals in the interlude, this album knows when and where to use vocals.
Mainstream: The splash catches you off guard and is a harsh blend between the two songs. I also have to mention that I'm a huge sucker for when songs have little sound effects like these that fit the theme - mainstream, water, get it?! "Floatin face down in the mainstream." It's a nice metaphor that ties into the same theme as the "neck to neck" line from before.
Decatur Psalm: The chorus has a nice choir again, y'all already know the deal by now.
Millenium: This song's chorus is so catchy that without knowing the title or remembering what the major theme of it even was, I immediately know exactly what to hum along as soon as the beat hits in the beginning. I personally think the catchy production like this is one of the reasons people gain so much inspiration from OutKast.
E.T. (Extraterrestial): This is Old School hiphop at its finest - but you'll know it sounds entirely different compared to DMX or Pac, who're typical for old school shit. Genres, themes, vibes and stuff. I will admit, the song gets somewhat repetitive after a while, but it's only about three minutes long, so they definitely knew better than to drag the song to six minutes like other artists do.
13th Floor/Growing Old: I'm often a sucker for the "speech in the beginning"-trope in music (just wait till I start rambling about how underrated I think BLOOD. from Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. is as an opener) and I'm pretty sure this song is partially at fault for this. A soft piano to let the album fade out. What a great closer. It also loops very well back into the intro, not necessarily because it blends in perfectly, but because the vibes and musical themes/tropes (gospel-esque in particular) are similar.
Bonus! Elevators (Me & You) ONP 86 Mix: Cue Busta Rhymes' "Remix!"-chant. It's a nice one, it's more chill than the actual song but it's not so far from it. Some may say it's not worth listening to it because of the changes are only minimal, but honestly, I'd rather have a smooth, similar remix than an abomination that makes my ears bleed because someone butchered a great song I like.
With a runtime of almost an hour, I'd consider this album a healthy meal. It's definitely something you want to sit down and listen to consciously. The album itself runs like a river - every song fits the overarching musical themes and motives (funky basslines, smooth melodies, chill vibes overall, but great bars and memorable flows). I'm all for songs blending into each other smoothly, which this album doesn't do a lot. Here, songs will rather fade out softly and the next one will catch your gaze with some new sound, be it drums or a water splash. The album feels very spiritual without being particularly about religion or beliefs - might be all the gospel elements. Why am I choosing to talk about this album? I don't know, I just really like it.

shuffle your on repeat playlist (on spotify) and list the first 10 songs and then tag 10 people
First Time by Hozier -- Been listening to this one (and the album in its entirety) since last October and like much of Hozier, it spoke to me! I think my favorite part is about the flowers,,,, mothers gifting life to you again, how a plant lives mostly underground in the roots, deadened to light and sound but reaching for the light anyway, even when it's doomed to be cut back for its beauty?? how the plant knows it's dying but puts forth its every effort to make flowers anyway?? "fighting off like all creation the absence of itself, anyway" ANYWAY????? and the end hurts a special kinda bad ough! ough!
Sjamboksa by Gang of Youths -- god knows I love these boys, but this one is an unsung gem from their earlier albums. "In the thick of my heart, by the skin of my teeth, until I'm forgotten, and covered in weeds, and my withering soul is in the sea, i will hold on to you, hold on to me." It has a warm, heartful sound that gets me emotional
Keep Me In the Open by Gang of Youths -- not your typical love song. It's about a relationship in the end stages of failing. It's always been a heartbreaker, and I appreciate it filling an uncommon niche. "When did everything get this weird? how the fuck did it start? did you ever believe in me? was it always so hard?"
Welcome Home, Son by Radical Face -- I've loved this one since like 2018? or 2017? It's an EXCELLENT "thinking about your OCs" song with excellent vibes. Generally this band is good for this purpose, recommend their other stuff since I think this is their only big song. I enjoy Small Hands iirc. They have very visual lyrics that I can smell yk? "Sheets are swaying from an old clothes line, like a row of captured ghosts over old dead grass, was never much but we made the most"
Wildflower and Barley (Feat. Allison Russell) by Hozier -- This makes me think of Seurri and Erastos' year together in their mutual downtime, enjoying the glade together and Philander learning to be comfort in a gentle, quiet love. the fuck . the vibes are... like, jazzy and folksy. "springtime from my window, another month has not much longer now, the sun hesitates more on each evening's darkening, would all things god allows, remain above ground? like grief and sweet memory, wildflower and barley"
I Don't Know You by Mannequin Pussy -- Excellent intro to their show in Atl. Started us off easy for sure lol. It's soft, it's about regret, it's about knowing your regret and still being unable or unwilling to act on it i think. plus longing
Little Dark Age by MGMT -- I don't remember listening to this a ton recently but in general? yes. I'm claiming this one back from the fashy teens who wanna use it in ww2 edits, this song slaps severely and the dark and mysterious vibes speak to me. good for OC imagining lol "The humor's not the same, coming from denial" IDK if this song has a coherent meaning (ik MGMT can be cryptic) but I havent interpreted it and I like it that way frankly
Too Sweet by Hozier -- Who could have predicted! OHhh! who knew! This song is for Solomon and Solomon only idc idc idc idc "But you worry some I know, but who wants to live forever babe" like yess mercenary queen work i need you to concern your elf nobility non-wifey wifey endlessly
We Don't Believe What's on TV by Twenty One Pilots -- Middle school makes a bold return! I stopped listening to these guys before 2016 I think, but I got a hankering for this particular song because I'm so unsure of what I want to be or do, or if I can even be or do that. I want to be unafraid of the future with somebody and I don't think I could relate to this song in middle school but I get it now! Also I refuse to factor religion into my interpretation of top or I'll stop enjoying it again shh
Archie, Marry Me by Flyte -- This song is one I'd occasionally play on loop late at night, the echoing choir and soft, what, organ? in the background? If I had a wedding this would probably be in it. It's so warm and personal, but I love the original by i think Alvvays! This cover I just think I love more.
I don't think I have any steady mutuals who haven't already been tagged in figs' post so... like or rb this or otherwise let me know if you'd like to be tagged in anything in the future :)

ABOUT
Adopted as a baby, Elif was loved by her family and older sister. She grew up in Atlanta, knowing her parents were well respected individuals who were never unkind or cruel to get to where they were.
She had an eye for the arts as a child and the moment she picked up her dad's old slr camera, her heart was set on becoming a photographer.
Eventually that dream became a reality, her skills taking her far after college where she was contracted out as a photojournalist for various publications. Her proudest professional moment was the first time she was featured in National Geographic.
Despite traveling the world for work, her heart has always been at home with her family, especially her sister, Cricket, and her two boys. She'd send postcards from every new place she traveled and would come home after long stints away.
She's most recently been gone for a year, covering a war torn region of the world. It's been hard, taking a toll on the otherwise upbeat Elif.
Once her contract ended, she decided she wanted to be with family again and came home.
She's currently living downtown with a roommate and freelancing for the Atlanta Times and some digital publications. It's not as glamorous as her globe-trotting but it's better for her now, and she argues that's more important.
