uhh tbh, i have no idea where it stems from. i’ve seen some people argue that potter can be an anglicised version of some indian surnames, others argue that there’s some race-coding (but u couldn’t ask me to expand on that—i have no clue) but i mainly think it’s just a matter of representation tbh. people wanted a character of color and we got a v prominent desi potters situation lol.

re what i think about it: if i’m being brutally honest, i am…not a fan. but that’s mainly because i don’t really like identity headcanons in general (i very rarely see them done well, to my taste) and it also messes w my escapism real bad. to be clear, i’m not saying it’s bad or anything, and i’ll never shit on anyone who likes it, but it’s just not my cup of tea. i think the desi thing hits harder too. i’ve also seen some fics where the authors, despite being very very good-intentioned fuck up the cultural aspect of it so bad it makes me cringe 😭😭 but also, it makes me wonder if that’s how british people feel when us non-brits butcher their stuff so i always try to be graceful when that happens lol

aaron taylor johnson has the gambit look now, face and physique wise, but did not have the gambit vibe at all when he was younger. also might be kind of eh considering he played quicksilver but, again, i do not perceive and am anti mcu quicksilver and scarlet witch. as atj is jewish, i would, of course, be incorporating jewish heritage into gambit's background if he's chosen.

jake gyllenhaal has the gambit look, face and physique wise, and has had the gambit look since he was young, but i don't know if he completely captures the gambit look, you know ? jake is also jewish, therefore i would also be incorporating jewish heritage into gambit's background if he's chosen.

luca marinelli absolutely exudes the gambit vibe sometimes, i can't explain how, but his overall look generally isn't that much of a match. there's a lack of intensity to his look that i think gambit has, and most of his resources are from the old guard, which could not be further from gambit's look.

Aaron is still committed to dressing like a villain in an ’80s movie. Today, he looks like he’s about to get killed in a shootout against Eddie Murphy or something. This is not to say that he looks bad.

Everything about ATJ’s look – the scoop neck, the significant amount of gold, the skinny belt, the cuffed jacket sleeves, the tassel loafers with the stacked heel – it’s all so chef’s-kiss perfect. Just pure pharmaceutical-grade Hot Jerk and he’s reveling in it. Dandy Douche Chic, we’ll call it.

We haven’t seen the film yet, but we’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that he doesn’t play a sensitive, bookish type. In other words, this sudden turn toward Miami Vice Drug Kingpin Chic could be seen as a sort of thematically appropriate way to dress for a testosterone-fueled action film.

the way Tom and Lorenzo dot com [x] analyzed Aaron’s fashion choices all during the Bullet Train press tour kills me, but it’s also fascinating that they repeatedly peg his style as something in the same vein as a TV criminal would wear lmao. it makes me wonder; did Aaron [or his stylist] dress him like this on purpose to better represent his character and vibe in the film (aka casual Tangerine chic), or was it just a serendipitous coincidence other people were copping that read? see how the chest and necklace are ALWAYS out for the peanut gallery to see. thank god for small favours.

Just started reading Daisy Jones & The Six and I gotta ask - who would you have cast had you been in charge for the TV series?

Honestly, I don't really know. I had people I might've cast at the time (like, four years ago) but so much has changed since then and I don't necessarily feel the same way.

I diiid like the idea of Florence Pugh as Daisy back in the day, and I maintain that. I feel like Daisy needed to be played by someone who could be both realistically battered and realistically ethereal, and... a good actress.... Florence is all of those things. For Billy, in my mind's eye I always pictured more of an Aaron Taylor-Johnson type (not saying ATJ, just talking the Look, though hey, he did play Lennon)--bigger than Sam, obviously beautiful but also obviously a part of the kind of reactive masculinity of the era.

I mean. The show, at certain points, very obviously tried to draw from Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson's aesthetics to an obnoxious degree with Billy and Daisy. And while Daisy was traaaansparently a Stevie rip in the book, Billy, imo, probably had to do not only with Lindsey but with people like Morrison. Because frankly, I don't think Lindsey on his own has the kind of mystique that Stevie has (I mean... I know he doesn't lol) and TJR wanted that for her male lead. However, I think that Sam and Riley were both super poor choices for transmitting that kind of mystique. To be blunt, I think that Riley's heritage went a long way towards ensuring she was cast, and I kind of roll my eyes when they try to suggest that it had nothing to do with it. You're gonna tell me that the fact that she's the granddaughter of "The King of Rock 'n Roll", however dubious that title may be, had NOTHING to do with her being cast in your fake music biopic? ... okay.

And while I don't think Sam is a bad actor, I do think his Billy was such a fucking sad sack. Essentially neutered. Billy was supposed to be this super compelling frontman, capable of being both a good father and husband and of falling into his demons. There was absolutely no edge to Sam's Billy. He gave big "starts crying midway through sex and not in a good way" vibes. But I think that was totally intentional, because they didn't want Billy to be as problematic and aggressive onscreen as he was in the book. They wanted to sanitize this whole deal and turn it into a Billy/Daisy romantic melodrama.

ANYWAY. One thing I do know is that they basically lost the plot as soon as they turned the whole thing into a cash grab with the music. Because I sincerely do not care if anyone in that project could sing in real life. They're supposed to be acting. Like, I don't even think Sam and Riley had Billy and Daisy's vocal qualities anyway, so who cares.....

Lockwood & Co (particularly Anthony Lockwood is giving major JP) is an amazing show that should not have been cancelled after 1 season, but has a lot of jily energy as well. (also maybe technically a redhead and brunette here as well?)

When Harry Met Sally -- look, maybe I say this because my goal in life is to one day do a When James Met Lily fanfic, but there's just something about this movie that really does it for me for the antagonists to friends to lovers. I turn this on whenever I really need to watch jily vibes

Firstly, I HAD A DREAM ABOUT HIM!! It was only us at a train station, he was talking on the phone with lem while holding a briefcase in his right hand. We realized the train we have to take is on another platform and we have to use an escalator to get there. But THIS MAN thought "screw that" and started walking there on the railway track while a TRAIN WAS COMING?? The train stopped before it could it him (somehow??) and in true Tan style, he started arguing wirh the train driver (while still on rhe phone with lem) I think my brain combined the fact the ideas of Tan and the train story.
