I'm just imagining Misraaks talking with Papa Variks one night, and Variks is depressed because he hasn't found love in his lifetime.
But then, Anthem walks through the door, leaning on the frame as he says for Pops to meet him on the Shore tomorrow. He's gonna get Variks a date.
Before Misraaks can even protest, Variks agrees, and says he'll be waiting. He hangs up on Misraaks, who's anxious as fuck. He glares at his husband and tells him he'd damn well better get Variks a date or else.
And Anthem laughs and replies, "Hon, nobody can resist my charm. Y'know that. We're married."
Misraaks blushes. His husband is right. And with that charm, he's sure to pick up SOMEONE for Variks.
So the next day, Anthem goes alone to the Shore, and meets with Papa. Taking one of his arms, he rushes him into the club, and sits Variks at a table. Passing the old Eliksni a mug of Ether, Anthem stands up and tells him to wait a minute.
Anthem disappears into the crowd, abandoning Variks for a few minutes. But sure enough, he comes back with three Eliksni, and they're chirping happily as they look upon Variks.
One, a man, asks in Eliksni, "Another outlaw? You've certainly caught my eyes."
Variks almost chokes on his drink. He asks Anthem in English, "What did you fucking tell them about me?!"
Anthem laughs. "He's a notorious outlaw himself here on the Shore. All three of these here folks are."
"How does your husband stand you?!" Variks cries out. "You trifle with dangerous fools, then expect me to fall in love with one?!"
Suddenly, the Eliksni man speaks up in English. "A fool is the only one who falls in love in the first place."
Variks pauses. "You... have a point."
"Yer at a club of all us outlaw folks," Anthem explains. "Yer in good company, Pops. I come here all the time, an' I promise ya, lawful don't always mean good, and good don't always mean ya follow the law. Y'know that."
Variks sighs, and motions for this man to sit down, and the others to leave. "Tell me your name."
"Athrak," the Eliksni replies. "How do you know Anthem-99?"
"He's my begrudging son in law," Variks replies. "Sometimes, like now, I cannot stand him."
Athrak laughs. "Before Anthem found his husband, I considered asking him out. Two old men in love... But he was too dangerous for me. I am glad Misraaks found company in him."
"Misraaks and Anthem were made for each other. There is no denying this truth. However, when you admit the truth, it opens your heart to acceptance whether you are ready or not."
Nodding, the Eliksni grins and chirps. "But the question you must ask yourself is, are you truly ready to accept it?"
"I have no other choice. Anthem is a good man, at least. But again, good does not always mean following the law." Variks sighs. "Why am I talking with you about this?"
Athrak shrugs. "Perhaps you need someone to talk to. Tell me. What is your biggest regret?"
"Letting Uldren and the Barons go."
"But Uldren returned, better than before, and if Anthem is your son, Crow became your grandson. Your family grows because the mistakes you make are meant to be rectified."
Variks's eyes widen. He looks at Athrak, and sips on his Ether in awe.
Anthem chuckles. He pats Variks on the back, then steps away. "I'll be in the corner, Pops. Lemme know if ya need a space to... do yer thing."
Variks and Athrak speak for a few hours. When they're done, they walk to Anthem, hand in hand, and Variks has an obvious smile on his face. "I... would like to take him back to my place. Can you be our transport?"
Grinning, Anthem nods. "C'mon, Pops. I gotcha." He leads the two out to his ship, then takes the helm as he flies off to Europa. And looking at the mirror, he sees Variks chirping as he holds hands and leans his head into Athrak, then Anthem smiles and gives a single nod.
Athrak asks Variks in Eliksni, "You have no ship of your own?"
"No. I have not had one for many decades."
"I'll change that for you."
The next day, Variks awakens to the sound of a whirring ship, and no Athrak in his arms or bed. He walks outside the base, and sees Athrak in a stolen ship.
Variks sighs, but nods. Who's ship is this?! Well. According to Athrak, it's Variks's now. And it is VERY nice. He won't argue.

The Storms
While not storms by our traditional sense, these anomalies function similarly to any other weather. In essence, the passing of a storm is the shift from say to night, which can lead to nights lasting as long as 3 earth days. Time is instead measured through a linear device similar to an hourglass, except on a larger scale and with a cloudy liquid used instead of sand.
The timepiece is made up of three such tubes which fill at different rates, and, upon filling, filter slightly into the next tube. A "day" has passed when all three tubes have been successfully filled. The monitoring of time ismore important to the people of Fen'Reyn than to us, with most people keeping multiple pocket timepieces on them at all times, to get the best possible reading
While the storms affect the entire planet, the affect they have on the land is different wherever you are.
In Grelocke:
In the land of Grelocke, the coming of the storms causes many species of flora to begin to glow and give off a faint bioluminescent light to attract wildlife, and thus spread their seeds. Grelocke at night is a similar phenomenon to the northern lights on Earth, except on the ground and shone by plants instead of magnetic fields. They simply call them the storms (hence why I use it).
In The King’s Lands:
In The King's Lands, the storms bring in the tide, allowing the fertilization of more inland fields, and all the same stuff as what you get on earth. Due to the inconsistencies of the storms, most farmers rely on the prophecies of the King's Scholar to determine when the next storm will arrive. The people of The King's Body call the storms the "King's Breath", and it is said that his final breath is what caused the storms to begin.
In Ren’drayn:
In the land of Ren'drayn, the storms signal the need to move, for the most dangerous of all creatures in Ren'drayn hunt at night. The dreaded and lethal K'rathi are the main threat, as they are too sensitive to light to be able to survive in the "day". In the event that the K'rathi should be caught in the sunlight, they must quickly burrow, or be burned alive. The dark of the storms also allows the light of the Blazeleaf plant to thrive. Considered a blessing by the first settlers, the Blazeleaf is one of the most surefire ways to find your way out of a storm and to a city, as the nomadic people plant the quick-growing plant as they travel so that anyone left behind may quickly find their way back. The people of Ren'drayn refer to the storms as the K'rathi, as well as the deadly insects that live therein as a symbol of how consuming the bugs can be.
I don't have a sciency explanation for why the weather acts like that (not yet, anyway, I'm working on it) but it’s of great debate in Athrak. I’m planning on having posts for the individual nations/places, but this stuff can take a while to type up
