So...is anyone else concerned that Mechakara isn't actually dead? They didn't kill him in the clone saga. The last time we saw him was the "in flesh or in steel" speech. He could show up again any time now.

A tired looking man in a lab coat and cracked glasses, takes the cup and thanks Linkara. The guy starts coming in every day after that. Sometimes he calls himself Insano, sometimes he calls himself Spoony. He always orders too much caffeine. Linkara worries he’s going to give this cute guy a heart attack but he doesn’t question it. He goes on break and the guy asks Linkara to share a table with him and, rather than going to the staff room, he does. Linkara eats some celery.

Hi Linkara. I am a newer fan (only started watching in 2015) and I really enjoy your work. Your way of analyzing comic book plots and mixing reviews and storylines has always impressed and entertained me. In fact, it is because of you that I got into comics. Thank you very much for making a show that I look forward to every week. With that said, I do have a question for you. What has been your inspiration/reason for making some of your characters like Harvey, Ninja Style Dancer, or Lord Vyce?

I actually got into that a lot more in the first DVD, but I can give some quick inspirations for ‘em! ^_^

Harvey: I’m a big Sinatra fan, particularly that era of crooner music, so Harvey imitating that style is fun, although the direct inspiration for the performance is Phil Hartman on Saturday Night Live in a one-off sketch callled “The Sinatra Group,” which parodied a political commentary show called “The McLaughlin Group.” In this case it was Frank Sinatra and a bunch of other singers talking about then-current events and I loved it. Anytime I need to get into character for Harvey, I just quote from that.

Ninja-Style Dancer: The Ninja-Style Dancer heralds from the Nightcat #1 comic. It wasn’t really SUPPOSED to be a recurring character, just a one-off joke because the comic featured “Ninja-style dancers” as part of the title character’s performance on stage. But it became a good recurring gag and a character in their own right. And I like the idea of this Ninja who goes on adventures away from the AT4W crew while going on tour as a background dancer.

Lord Vyce: After the Mechakara arc concluded, Will, Amethyst (the voice of Nimue), and I all got together and decided to figure out who the next storyline villain would be. We came up with the idea that it should be a bigger threat. The “Lord” idea came from Lord Zedd and I wanted to follow on from that with a single-syllable name. IIRC, we used a fantasy-name generator and got Vice, which we added the y to to give it its own unique flavor (because poor literacy yadda yadda). The idea of him conquering to protect things didn’t come about until later - initially he was just straight up interdimensional conqueror. We reverse-engineered his backstory and some of the mythos of AT4W basically starting from “Why does an interdimensional conqueror give a crap about an internet reviewer?” and came up with the Champions idea, moving on to why would he be conquering at all, to the basic idea of the Entity. Hyping up Vyce meant hyping up the Entity, as well, which is why my original idea of just fighting the Entity in a Power Rangers fight would have been so disappointing for people and things just went on from there. ^_^

Just thinking about past events - spoilers for at4w 9/21/17.

While curiosity played at least some part I'm the Entity deciding to kill itself last time, this time it was just complete despair.  Linkara was even this time trying to suggest other options for it to explore, probably because this time around it didn't hurt anyone besides him and Margret. And there is definitely presidence for Linkara to forgive that.

Also, a bunch of characters have now have run in with despair.  The heroic characters lived because of their friends ( Linkara found Harvey before he died. Marzgurl took command of the ship before Mechakara blew them all up. ) The villainous characters died.  The Entity didn't have anyone to help, and the second time it sorta tried to ask and then refused.  Vyce seems to be going down the second path.  Especially since he just backhanded 90's Kid, who is the only one who would do something for Vyce out of kindness.

BTW, I could feel every bit of goodwill Vyce had built in the the fandom evaporate at that point.  it was magical.

I love this storyline!

I just want to hug Erin and Linksano so bad.

Mirrorkara, you are the worst! He ended up on a bad parallel Earth, he found a traumatised little girl crying in pain and loneliness after the death of her parents and he’s first thoughts were, ‘how can I use this to my advantage? I know! I’ll turn her into a weapon that I can use for revenge!’

“Hello sad child. Come with me and I will protect you. Also, I know you have a name already but I can’t be bothered to learn it so I’m giving you a new one.”

I was talking about this on the Reviewerverse discord before the second part came out but Mirrorkara’s treatment of Erin (does she even like that name?) reminds me of a Tumblr post I once read about respect. It was talking about some adults say things like, “If you show me respect, I will show you respect,” to children. However, what they really mean is, ‘By show me respect, I mean treat me as an authority figure who can never be question or crossed in any way and much always be treated with deference. By show you respect, I mean I will treat you with the bare minimum expected level of human decency. If you fail to do the former then I will take great pleaser in denying you the later.’

Mirrorkara only ever seemed to see Erin as a means to an end. He didn’t care about any emotionally scaring experiences she goes through, reminding her that he could make it worse for her if she didn’t toe the line.

Erin was so clearly unhappy but Mirrorkara didn’t care. He thought he was more important than anyone else and no one else really mattered. In his mind, Erin would never stop owing him for saving her life – even though he was constantly emotionally abusive to her after the fact – and made Seras for her, even though he would happily let Seras die if it suited him.

Mirrorkara talked in front of Erin about how he liked her terrible world that scared her and all the awful things he planned to do. She was expected to smile when he looked at her.

Damn, that poor Linkara clone. He was made to be subservient to Linksano, spent years in stasis and then had a short life where he was tortured to death.

I love that hope, optimism and kindness win out. Linkara wins because he makes friends, cares about people and has people who care about him in return.

It’s nice to see Jaeris coming to the rescue alone with the Comicrew.

Mirrorkara really shouldn’t have insulted Seras. Erin loves her so much. Go girl! GO! Make him pay for his words!

Harvey and 90’s Dude turn up late to the main party but are still in time for an awesome line up.

Seriously though, I really want to hug Erin and Linksano. She clearly been though so much and his little look to see if he was even welcome in the room just broke my heart.

Did… did Moarte eat Mirrorkara? I mean, he’s a ghoul so I’m guessing so.

I don’t care what anyone says, Moarte turns up every year because he likes Linkara and the Comicrew in his own way. When Linkara walked in on one of his videos Moarte just told him to get out. When Linksano used the Longbox for his own reasons Moarte just scared him away. When Linkara wants to use the room, he asks permission and Moarte lets him in. If Mirrorkara goes in, he gets eaten.

Gotta love the fear in Jaeris’ eyes when he realises Linkara is changing outfits. I’m liking the new look and I want that pin badge.

Human Mechakara is still out there. FUTURE STORYLINE!

what was your unbiased opinion on the atop the fourth wall movie?

Well that's a tough question, I can't really give a totally unbiased opinion because I've been a fan of @atopfourthwall for several years, just the fact this passion project of his exists makes it awesome to me. I definitely thought that for what it was, it was absolutely spectacular. I was never a fan of the tgwtg crossover movies but I couldn't peg why, until I saw the atop the fourth wall movie. The movie had a point and actual character development and meaningful moments while not feeling overcrowded or like anybody didn't belong ( my personal feelings about Brad Jones withstanding ) For an independent director working on a limited budget Lewis accomplished something pretty stellar, a feature length film taking place a majority in space and using the "continuity" created by others on the website as a launching point to further his own story, interweaving the continuity of everything together really well.It's not perfect, but I feel weird talking about its flaws given its independent status but it might be fun given a lot of story deconstruction I've learned from Lewis over the years.My only huge complaints would be the inclusion of Mechakara and Linkaras. .. weird fluctuations in character. For anyone who hasn't seen at4w Mechakara is an alternate universe version of Linkaras robot Pollo ( I JUST NOW GOT POLLO IS NAMED AFTER THE SPANISH WORD FOR CHICKEN OH MY GOD ) that stole the skin of his linkara and became a recurring villain for our dimensions linkara ( yes this series of videos of a guy reviewing comics requires a fucking plot debriefing I love it ) In my personal opinion Mechakara kind of out stayed his welcome? I know that may sound ungrateful or unappreciative, and really I'm not trying to, I just personally felt vice and Mechakara both stuck around a bit more than they needed to ( vice especially though he's the frieza of the series )His inclusion as the antagonist of the movie feels kinda like they got halfway through the writing process before going "SHIT! This can't just be a character piece we kinda need a bad guy.'' Cause for 80% of the film the primary conflict is Linkara and the depressive state he's going through. ( Lewis has him refer to it kinda as an early midlife crisis but that is straight up a depressive episode ) Linkara is questioning his life, and how he kinda is just living from battle to battle and while he's not suicidal he's ... ready for the hit that ends his life. It's a pretty heavy subject and one that from a realistic point of view is great to address given Linkara starts the series as just a typical dude, and has had to deal with some horrifyingly traumatic stuff. It would make sense for the character to have ptsd out the ass even if Lewis doesn't feel comfortable writing characters that suffer from mental problems he doesn't suffer from personally ( the man is very comfortable in his lane lmao ) It actually reminded me a lot of the end of the three kings arc of yu yu hakusho, where Yusuke is questioning why he fights and why he's trying to get stronger. Which is why I was kinda dissapointed how quickly he resolved his personal feelings. Admittedly it was solved quickly in yu yu hakusho as well, but yusuke had an easy quick answer his gf keiko. Now don't miss understand, I'm not decrying the choice I completely understand time constraints and all that, I was just kind of dissapointed that he figured out his reason for continuing was the comics ( we knew that would be the answer ) simply by talking to Allens dead body.I'll excuse it though, because he was also under duress and pretty sure he was gonna die and that can kick your brain into high gear and help you reach conclusions a non panicked brain wouldn't. The only other complaint with his character was - Linkara was ... well he was kind of a cock to allen for no discernable reason. Allen, his contact with the government, was never shown to have much interaction with Linkara throughout the series.So, the movie actually was a chance to push their relationship to a better place and develop Allan as a character. However more time is spent on re affirming Linkaras relationship with MarzGurl which is perfectly fine - she was amazing in the film, it's just that it was a bond we already knew about ( and this is very much a film for his fans and is in no way a jumping on point ) Having Linkara realizing he was a dick to allen after he dies just ...mmm felt kind of lazy? It would have been nice to see Linkara realize he was being needlessly paranoid about allen through some action on Allens part. ( hell Allens death is pretty much an accident ) Such as possibly finding out Allen has turned down promotions to stay on Linkaras case, or that Allen actually had to sacrifice something great and call in a lot of favors to get the snipers off of Linkara, basically show how Allen stretches himself thin to protect Linkara and for Linkara to then realize he has no fight with Allen and can trust him.And explaining all that character conflict you probably ready forgot there was a robot bad guy huh? The final confrontation with Mechakara is absolutely fucking awesome awed despite the fact I giggled when Linkara said fuck, I absolutely loved it none the less.But the movie is ultimately very fucking character focused to the point where Mechakara almost feels like an afterthought like "oops we need a bad guy this time." to the point where, despite being kinda tired of him I hope that wasn't the final time we see him cause that would kind of suck as a send off for a long time villain.However despite that I loved the movie so much, and lewis is my writing IDOL and I absolutely adore anything he puts his brain into. Any criticism is done with full love and admiration for the guy.
