Every single licensed piece of LOTR media after the original Peter Jackson trilogy has been absolute dogshit, and I am rather glad about that—it means that as the years go by, the odds of having to endure a remake are pretty low, and the original cultural place of the books will never quite be displaced. I think it also keeps the churn of Extruded Lord of the Rings Product down—unlike Star Wars, where everybody is hoping to make the next Andor or Rogue One, hopefully nobody has any illusions their LOTR project doesn’t fucking suck. And it’s only 20 years until LOTR enters the public domain, and people can do whatever they want with it.

Also helps that the bar is quite high—not only were the Jackson films pretty darn good, the books are genuinely terrific. Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, and a lot of other stabs at the Next Big IP are fundamentally medium-to-bad in a way that establishes the bar for a “good” entry in the series pretty low. I like the original Star Trek a lot, for instance, but it’s not exactly one of the all time best written and produced TV shows! Whereas the LOTR books are well written enough there’s a noticeable disjunction in quality even just between bits of the movies that quote them or adapt them closely and bits Jackson made up—and that gulf becomes titanic in the hands of writers and directors who are even worse at Tolkien pastiche than 2000s Jackson (like, say, 2010s Jackson).

I’ve finally got a firm grip on the plotting for this so I’ve posted the first three chapters! Fair warning: I’m not sure how frequent updates will be, but I’m gonna try my best! It’s more character study heavy than my usual stuff so I hope you like it!

i have officially finished knock knock boys and it is absolutely no secret that i loved each and every one of those little boba balls. it was a great slice of life show that completely nailed the topics they tackled. so beautifully and gently and wonderfully done.

as a side note for a show rated 18+ it was incredibly wholesome and tame. i’m not even sure why it got the 18+ rating; unless Thai censorship dictates open conversations about sex (even if no actual sex happens) is cause for that level of rating? all in all truly and utterly gorgeous show.

there just aren’t many darby guys around so I have to complain extra, but my ongoing grouchiness about the match is that it did darby such a disservice. the more defence I see about why it was a good match actually because it served so much purpose for jack, I’m just over here really frustrated because it was the opposite for my guy. it’s neither of their faults that they had to work with such limited time, and while I’m sad he lost a coffin match it was always going to be the result and happened for a clear reason. but the spots, the chanting and general vibe of the match (a coffin match, darby’s specific thing) were all about the haunted narrative, and a lot of those spots literally did not make sense in a darby match. these are things we’ve been shown for years that darby can handle. powdered (real) glass as a threat to him felt stupid after his own glass spot. he can quite famously fight with his hands tied behind his back, let alone in front. he can fight tied up, endure beatings, he can survive huge drops. hell, he can fight from INSIDE a body bag. these are things he’s spent his entire aew run demonstrating he’s good at, and to see him essentially get squashed and become useless at all of his own tricks was very disheartening. it’s disheartening that most people don’t even care enough to question how jack could achieve it all. the title didn’t even matter, the loss..feels bad, but I understand the choice they made, I’m just bitterly disappointed that it’s how his singles match in wembley turned out, especially with him being a contender for the world title. like, good for jack and getting that venue out of his system and rip to them both for having to speedrun that match and just make the best of it, but I’m not seeing anyone care that there are two sides involved in having feelings about it. so here’s more of mine ig :s

I kinda hit a wall with my Russian on Duolingo after starting to get into the genitive case. With Russian, both verbs AND nouns change within 6 cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, instrumental, and prepositional) AND 3 genders (he, she, neuter, they, you (inf), you (for), etc.). So there are multiple ways to say any noun... And sometimes it won’t even be a new suffix - a singular feminine noun in a sentence in the genitive case will have the same ending as if it were plural in the nominative case (I might be off with this clunky description but hopefully the gist comes across). So you're conjugating verbs and declining nouns at the same time. So I’m just losing track of everything and can’t seem to work out the rules of conjugation & declension. However, I had been supplementing Duolingo with my own research on YouTube university and a “Russian Course” book I bought on top of making my own notes, and I haven’t been doing those things as much anymore, right when I need them most lol.

But the community college I went to has a Russian class… it’s online and Russian 1 is only in fall quarter, with Russian 2 & 3 only in winter and spring respectively… I looked up tuition and for the 5 units it’d be $207… And they have payment plans… Ntm the teacher is crazy highly rated on ratemyprofessor!

I could work more with Duolingo but it’s only going to get me so far regardless even if I do get back to my extracurricular studies; Russian is hard. The temptation for an actual class (when I’d have a great baseline going into it) is so strong, and the window of opportunity for this is only so often.

Eeee idk haha but I have a few weeks to decide and get the money together before I could even register for classes. I did already register for admission for the fall term though just to be prepared! 🇷🇺
