when the whumpee is snarky and scared all at once. the backtalk is an instinct, a manifestation of their anger at the situation they're in, at the horrible things being done to them, but they regret it immediately half the time. all that bravado is false and they're terrified inside. snapping insults at whumper at the same time that they're shaking so hard it's visible, knowing that they're about to pay for it, that by the end of this they'll be crying. unable to stop either response.

Natal Sun square Uranus
I have this aspect in my chart and it's one of the most challenging ones I have so here's some things I've piled up from my own experience with this aspect and how its manifested within other people's charts;
Those with a Sun square Uranus aspect often experience a strong need for personal freedom and originality. This aspect gives one a drive to break away from the conventional road and way of living to forge something that is uniquely their own. As a result, conformity can feel uncomfortable and frustrating for these individuals. Most people with this aspect feel very drawn to seek out radical and original experiences, often finding themselves fighting against societal expectations and standards. These folks are not seeking conventionality, they're seeking radical and original experiences.
Because of this they can feel out of place a lot of the time. Their takes and opinions may be very outlandish to others because of their free thinking abilities. They may feel like the odd one out, feel like they stick out like a sore thumb, feel like they do not quite fit in, or feel like an outsider within in their environment. Sun-Uranus folks have a very hard time accepting their differences and the things that make them unique at first. Because of their crave for unorthodox experiences, this can lead to feelings of alienation. This can be particularly challenging when their innovative ideas or unconventional approaches are met with resistance or misunderstanding from others. Their sense of not belonging can become a battle within themselves, which could lead to suppressing their unique traits in an attempt to gain acceptance in worst case scenario. They can also end up pretending to be someone they’re not because of rejection from society/others.
This can make one a rule-breaker, an inventor, risk taker, a contrarian, defiant, a rebellion, scientist, alchemist, villain, etc. These people will refuse to do something if it goes against their beliefs or is unethical to them; they can be incredibly set in their own ways. They tend to do things with a different approach that works for them which tends to piss others off, especially those who like control. Often needing to do things differently than the common person, they may purposely take the harder route and go against the grain. This resistance to approach things in a conventional way can be liberating, but can also lead to conflicts and a lack of compromise with those who take more traditional approaches. People usually have a hard time figuring out those who have this aspect.
Those with a Sun-Uranus aspect thrive on innovation and variety. They are unpredictable and hate being told what to do. Their open-mindedness make them willing to try almost anything as they view most things an experience to learn and expand. Nothing feels normal to these folks. Sun-Uranus people are the types to act first, think later. They're also frequently changing things about themselves internally and externally. If stuck in one place for too long, they tend to feel restricted and restless.
Famous people who possess this aspect include; Doja Cat, Dennis Rodman, Elon Musk, RuPaul, Sky Ferreira, Mitski, Grimes, and Frida Kahlo. These people are known for their unconventional lives, innovative ideas, unique/distinctive styles, and refusal to conform to societal norms.
Some scenarios a Sun-Uranus person might experience:
Not trying at all in school because they know it won't be relevant to their future aspirations.
People having to compromise with them a lot because they tend to want to do things their own way.
Leaving their 9-5 job because they got tired of the same day-to-day tasks.
Facing issues in their personal relationships because of lack of communication.
Doing the opposite of what someone wants them to do because they don't like being ordered around.
Getting up and leaving one day without telling anyone because they felt trapped being in one space.
Deciding to do something last minute, neglecting their responsibilities.
Having issues with their bosses or other authority members.
Challenging rules and those of authority because they might believe certain rules don't apply to them.
Waking up one day and deciding they want to completely change their appearance/ways of living.
Creating a trademark for themselves whether it's through fashion, music, art, etc.

….. Pokémon au…..
Detailed teams and thoughts below the read more.
These teams would be around the start of the black whale arc, i lightly mapped out which arcs they’d catch and evolve in! No deaths in this au, lesser stakes, this is pokemon. This is only the main 4 for now.
Gon’s team: lots of heavy hitting at the sake of taking damage, lots of environmentally useful moves.
Tumblr media
Kon- Ursaluna: Main Partner. met as teddiursa with Kite as a child. With him for all of series.
Bon- wailord: caught in whale island, evolves into wailord during hunter exam. I love the concept of a small child with only massive Pokémon tbh.
Mon- Togekiss: Mito(Poke-breeder) gave him this egg to hatch and everyone finds it funny his hair matches. Probably trains and evolves with Bisky(Former Champ/Gymleader) in GI training times. Once she evolved to Togekiss they LOVE flying together.
Ja-Jan- Scizor: he caught scyther traveling with Kite and evolves it training with Knuckle, it’s cause of Knuckle that his naming pattern is different. Ja Ja Ken themed pokemon! Bisky teaches them how Mega-evolution works!
Don- Kommo-o: Instead of a video game, Ging left Gon two dragon eggs, one he kept and hatched into the battle loving Don and the other he gifted to Killua. Also evolves during GI training. They have immensely similar personalities.
Solgaleo doesnt belong to him, they're friends. Killua and Gon both help a Cosmoem/Cosmog and when fighting along side Gon it takes on this form! only see this during the parallel to the Chimera Ant arc.
I also consdered: Koraidon, Hitmonchan, Heracross, Kanto-Nintales, Pidgeotto, Eevee, dondozo, Wishiwashi, Annihilape, Dragonite, etc.
Killua's team: the Zoldyck family is notorious for their Dark and poison type trainers and protecting Kukuru Mt. a similar vibe to Aether research group.
Tumblr media
Cocoa-Weaville: Main partner. perfect IVs, Good EVs, a classic Zoldyck match. they get better together. Her nickname is a secret between the both of them till after Gon and friends rescue him from his house.
Mallow-Crobat: Also already on his team for the Hunter Exam as a Golbat. also Family Approved. He's frustrated by its inability to evolve until he does while visiting Whale Island with Gon.
Pop Rocks- Luxray: Caught during Heavens Arena timeline and evolved fully with Bisky training. his first time choosing a pokemon for himself and having fun.
Taffy- Silvally: Given to him by his Dad as a Type:Null, but rarely used because Killua knows it hates battling and doesnt want it to hate him. the Mask removal likes up nicely with the Needle removal moment. they learn to Battle for themselves and enjoy it over time.
Bonbon- Salamence: Killua's first time hatching a pokemon egg gifted to him by Gon. shes a little defiant and stubborn, Killua blames Gon's influence. Also evolved under Bisky training. If asked why her nickname matches Gons pokemon he will tell you to stop imagining things.
Lunala is also not technically his, he also helps out the same Cosmog/Cosmoem and is blown away when it takes on this form for him while he's rescuing Alluka/Nanika and their Jirachi.
Also considered: Miraidon, Killowatrel, Hitmontop, Floragato, Morpeko, Jolteon, toxtricity, snealser, Alolan-Ninetails, etc.
Leorio's team: this man is deceptivly good at battling but no one would guess it looking at his team. He has the slowest progress in training compared to his friends but tbf he's also attending medical school. lowest effort nicknames.
Tumblr media
Gimmi-Gimmighoul: Main Partner. here from the start but stays as a Roving form until we see Leorio again at the election arc and its in its treasure chest form! they are besties.
Pooch- Mightyena: has as a Poochyena for the Hunter exam and his main battler. Cheedle first notices Leorio because she pays extra attention to Dog pokemon and approves of how they battle together. both of these guys give bad first impressions.
Audi- Audino: also a pokemon he starts the hunter exam with but he's a little self conscious of her. Not that either of them ever hesitate to go doctor mode even if they don't match each others vibes. She knows Leorio deep down has a good heart and she refuses to tolerate his nonsense so she can be dis-agreeable until he says what he really means. Learns Mega-evolution off camera just like his nen.
Boar- Tepig: gift egg from Ging as a congrats for getting the Zodiac position after him. Leorio is trying extremely hard to live up to expectations and Boar is probably the most spoiled Pokemon by all of Leorio's team.
Lunch- Applin: in a reference to the Gon giving Leorio and apple scene in 99 anime i really wanted to put an applin on his team. probably given to him by Gon, maybe from whale island. Leorio has no idea how to train this guy, hes working on it. I'm not 100% on this one.
Xerneas- its not unusual for hunters to form bonds with legendaries if they impress them. and i think Xerneas would like Leorio's gumption and kindness. :) plus parallel for Kurapika. probably starts bonding with him around the end of the Election arc.
Kurapika's team: I wish we knew more about the Kurta language cause i think he'd name them after that. It was less a massacre and more a mass destructive event as the PT looted their remote village looking for rare and valuable pokeon, probably following the rumors of a psudo-legendary doomsaying pokemon.
Tumblr media
Nemesis-Absol: Main Partner. They both feel responsibly for the attack and seek both vengeance and the return of any pokemon taken. She is just as driven and determined as he is. they learn to mega-evolve while training with Mizuken pre York New.
Prometheus-Blaziken: caught as a torchick post PT attack. insp by the ride-able birds in the Memory comics! the second most dedicated and determined on the team along side Nemesis. loves training. pressent for Hunters exam.
Aion-Metagross: caught and trained with a matching beldum alongside Pairo. Sheila helped them catch them! too bad Pairo's beldum went missing in the PT attack. present for Hunters exam.
Odysea-Palafin: a pokemon Kurapika always adored and was super excited to catch. Dolphin fan boy. Heroic type the vibes are perfect.
Achlys- Rattata: F.E.A.R. tactics. A gift from Pariston after inheriting his Zodiac position. neither of them are above using this tactic if need be lol. His feelings about her are cautious suspicion but they are growing closer over time.
Yveltal is the Legendary that Kurapika willingly made a deal with to give himself the certainty of defeating the PT. they are what they are and its not the healthiest bond but Kurapika would never blame it for its nature and his own choices.
Also Considered: Dodrio, Gyarados(Shiny), Hydredgeon, Talonflame, Giratina, Corviknight, Armorouge, Husian-Zorark, Klefki, All of the Ruinous legendaries, ect.

the black cousins
regulus & sirius
brothers/cousins- they were extremely close as kids since they never really had any other friends to play with. but as sirius got sorted into gryffindor and made friends, and regulus getting sorted into slytherin the year after, they drifted apart. sirius not being able to separate regulus to their parents, and regulus being jealous of sirius' freedom and happiness.
regulus & narcissa
cousins- both being the youngest and deemed 'the golden child', narcissa protects and helps regulus handle issues and stay in good favour with everyone. narcissa being the only slytherin student he already knew well, she guided him in school to help him remain in good standing with the other slytherins but not getting involved in their harmful actions.
regulus & andromeda
cousins- regulus was always jealous of how much closer sirius was to her, how they kept secrets just between the two of them, how they'd sneak out together during parties and never invited him along. andromeda did try to influence regulus, getting him to understand the family's prejudice, but when she left, she cut all ties.
regulus & bellatrix
cousins- bellatrix tended to prefer talking to her sisters walburga when at grimmauld place, rather than sirius and regulus. so the two weren't really close. until bellatrix had joined the death eaters, and regulus was being urged to join as well. bellatrix was extremely keen for regulus to join. once sirius was disowned, she would stay during holidays, her behaviour and body language being so similar to sirius' was soothing at the time, and regulus listened to what she had to say.
sirius & narcissa
cousins- the two are complete opposites. where sirius is loud and defiant, narcissa is quiet and dutiful. narcissa sees sirius as a naive kid ruining their life, and sirius sees narcissa as a meek, vain, and self-absorbed. the two never got on, only connecting through alice fortescue.
sirius & andromeda
cousins- andromeda was like a guidance figure to sirius, teaching them how to escape, how to hide things, etc. she always tried to influence sirius in a good way, showing them their family's prejudice. the two being the only ones disowned, kept in contact. andromeda never fully believed sirius was a death eater.
sirius & bellatrix
cousins- so similar to each other, the exact same personality and impulses but ruled by complete opposite motivations. both being the eldest sibling, they take on a lot of their parents expectations and brute of their anger. but both of them hate themselves deeply, thinking they're too impulsive, angry, and a disappointment, that they can't help but despise the other for all the traits they share.
narcissa & andromeda
sisters- they were extremely close as children, as were bellatrix. but as they got older, andromeda grew more independent and outspoken and narcissa, seeing the aftermath of that rebellion, grew quieter and more compliant. after andromeda left, she cut all ties to her. but after the war, she extended a hand to narcissa and the two became close again.
narcissa & bellatrix
sisters- both felt like they had to protect the other, especially more after andromeda left. narcissa married lucius and gave up her quidditch dreams in order to stay with bellatrix, and bellatrix got narcissa out of having to take the dark mark and become a death eater. looked after each other their entire lives, to the point they made themselves miserable and crazy in attempts to be there and protect one another.
andromeda & bellatrix
sisters- although close as children, the two fought often, over toys, books, and the piano in the lounge. and as they grew older, the fighting got louder and more intense to the point the two, although loving each other, never confided anything in each other, instead telling everything to narcissa who never said a word. when andromeda left, bellatrix was the one who burned her off the tapestry.

What do you think are Gojo and Geto’s greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic?
Until now, have you found any couple (canon or non canon) from any media (books, tv series, movies, anime/manga, etc) that the dynamics remind you of Gojo/Geto?
Thanks if you want to answer....
(I forgot this ask in my drafts sorry)
Asking me to ramble about my hyperfixation when I'm too tired to write in correct English is cruelty actually /j
I think their strengths are mostly the same as their weaknesses. (It's only my take on them, everyone has a different opinion)
Geto's empathic, he understands people, he likes helping, giving advice, protecting, and caring ; he makes a point to ensure that everyone around him is fine and safe. He's strong so he can bear with painful tasks, he knows he can, so he doesn't complain about it. He has a great sense of morals and responsibilities. It's all amazing qualities, until it became too much. He was caring too much, worrying too much, enduring too much, and he drowned under the weight of everything he fought so hard for. His morals contradicted his will to help people and he had to make a choice. He loved people so much he couldn't bear to see his friends die, so he sacrificed the entire world to protect them. I think his greatest weakness is that he loved his close ones more than he loved himself, so he didn't even think about asking for help because he didn't believe people would care about him as much as he cared about them.
Geto, like everyone else, would say that Gojo is selfish, which is ironic because Geto is the one who kept everything to himself and didn't let people worry about him. He tried to fix himself alone, then decided he didn't need to be fixed.
Gojo's selfish, egocentric, forgetful, defiant, and is very much in love with his best friend. Those are weaknesses, to be clear. He's also kinda naive, because he believes things will be fine no matter what, but this is just another side of his arrogance. He hates authority figures but he needs to be told what to do because he is not able to regulate himself. He needs someone to draw a line for him, but he cannot express the importance that person has because he doesn't think it matters. Not that he doesn't believe they'd care but because he thinks they already know. (They don't- again, it's because of his arrogance). He doesn't realize nor understand how other people feel, but that doesn't stop him from reacting accordingly. Because he knows what it's like to suffer, to be lost, to be betrayed, to be lonely. He is not empathic, he doesn't feel what people are feeling, but he was so self-centered that he lost the person he loved the most, and now that he knows the pain he can project his own emotions on others. He's selfish and egocentric, so he saw people he could take care of and decided it'd be his responsibility to ensure they'd grow up happily. He doesn't care what the higher-ups think, he will do whatever pleases him. He also doesn't care what those people he takes care of are thinking, he forces himself into their lives because he truly believes he can make it better -and he does. (arrogance, the good side).
Gojo is arrogant and strong, he thinks he can change the world and deal with the consequences. He knows he can fight anything, so he doesn't actually worry about threats, even though it sometimes hurt his students. He proposes a status quo because he knows no one can fight him. He manages to keep Yuuta and Yuuji and Megumi safe by pure defiance.
Also it's canon that Gojo's mortal weakness is Geto himself.
What I love about them is perhaps the metaphors, the parallels, and the co-dependency. They're literally soulmates, they're a perfect match, they value each other so much it's overwhelming. They're also dumbasses and I love that kind of ship. They're handsome and pretty and gorgeous. They're smart and stupid at the same time. They're so in love that 9 years apart weren't enough to kill that. They're both little shit but one knows how to pretend to be nice. Literally EVERYTHING Gojo does as an adult is because of the influence Geto had in his life. They know each other so deeply that a simple glance is enough to recognize the other. Geto's body broke through Kenny's control because Gojo was in danger and it was the FIRST TIME it happened in CENTURIES. Hell, what is there NOT to love about them ??
Anyway. They make me think about Orpheus and Eurydice from the Greek mythology (He looked back. He knew she shouldn't, but he looked back because he loved him). I recently read a post that compared them to Achilles and Patroclus and I was like, oh, yeah, that could work. Also, they kinda have a vibe of Steve and Bucky from MARVEL. Like, childhood friends who liked messing around together until one got lost and followed a dark path while the other had to bear the weight of the world on his shoulders and was so praised and admired that he wasn't allowed to have a life by himself. Years and years later they met again and memories came back and the world fell apart. They're enemies know, opposite sides, there's only one way to stop the other. But. But they still love each other. (I'm going to make myself cry)
I could write so much more but I'm going to stop here because I have the feeling that I'm already annoying lmaooo

ooooh loving your whump answers so now I must ask: how would you whump bernadette or gabi? :)
Ooooh absolutely! Let's see what I can put together...
Bernadette: She and Tiff are a package set, of course, so I have to whump them together! I think I'd explore the fact that Bernadette is not a superhero like Tiff is, and while she may have a bit of self-defense knowledge, she's not on the same caliber by any means.
Let's put Bernadette in Tiff's shoes, shall we? By some circumstance or another, Tiff is captured and it falls to Bernadette to save her. In fact, she's the only one to save her - Tiff's kidnappers make it very clear that if anyone but Bernadette herself comes for her, Tiff will be shot before they even get in the door. They seem to see it as some sort of game, and don't believe Bernadette will really make it very far.
Instead, she's driven beyond belief, and while she may not be an expert fighter, she does better than any of the attackers expect. She's put through a gauntlet of battles and the injuries that come with them: bruises, concussions, even broken bones. It's the same thing Tiff goes through every night in the field, but Bernadette's never had to deal with this before, never had to fight through her injuries like Tiff so often does. But if she doesn't do this... Tiff will die.
It's not only immense physical pain for her. The entire time she's fighting her way through, she's painfully aware of how often Tiff goes through the same thing, and how well she seems to shoulder those burdens. She almost feels inadequate, struggling to walk with injuries that Tiff shrugs off oh-so-often. And she has to fight through it alone - any backup, even the slightest support, and Tiff will be gone before she reaches her.
Finally she does get to Tiff, and the kidnappers make good on their promise... and vanish. The two of them are safe, at least for the most part, but they're both laden with injuries and now left abandoned in whatever warehouse Tiff was imprisoned in.
____
Gabi: We're gonna play with her superpowers a bit. She's captured by a wealthy, out-of-touch supervillain and is treated as a spectacle piece: a metahuman, little more than a flashy piece of decoration, that can transform into any animal imaginable!
She's kept in a sort or giant birdcage, with a power-dampening field around it so while it looks like she could easily shift into a smaller form and fit through the bars, any contact with the bars or the spaces in between forces her to shift back into her full-sized, human form. The birdcage is placed in the foyer of this supervillain's mansion, so any of his rich and immoral guests can witness her.
At first she's defiant, refusing to transform into any form once she's realized escape is impossible. She won't be made into a party trick, she refuses to be dehumanized or used as a decoration. But her kidnapper slowly starts to starve her out, withholding food and water until her choice is to transform or waste away. As it goes on, bigger and more complacent transformations are rewarded with better treatment - more and better food, blankets, books or puzzles for entertainment, etc. - while defiance is still treated with deprivation.
Not sure how I'd end this one - either with her being rescued, or her eventually breaking under the ongoing strain - but that's the basic concept. She's captured, has her powers used as a rich man's fantasy decoration, and has basic necessities withheld when she refuses until it breaks her.
What do you think?

I know in some bnha abo fics, Dabi hides his alignment to not be seen as weak. His scent gland is often burnt up, too, so it's hard to tell. Will this be the case in your fic? I can see Shig or afo requiring everyone to be honest about it, though, for ~pack compatibility reasons~ or smth
I'm torn on this bc ive seen this hc before with Dabi hiding his alignment, taking suppressants, etc and I do like it, but at the same time I've seen it a lot and I'm kinda interested in exploring an idea where, by the time Dabi joins the league, he just genuinely doesn't give a fuck that he's an omega and ppl can tell he's an omega. So here's some, like, hcs I'm thinking about including;
Was self conscious about his alignment at first, esp when still at home bc Enji wanted an alpha as his masterpiece so once Touya presented as an omega it was basically a done deal Enji was gonna give up on him + the Todoroki family and both sides of Enji and Rei's families have a lot of stereotypical "traditional" viewpoints on alignments, so Touya was treated differently than his siblings for being an omega
Def think while on his own on the street he tried to hide his alignment because he was afraid alphas would target him but things like scent patches, suppressants, etc were real hard to get his hands on bc he's a homeless street kid and doesnt have resources.
Bonus if in society mated omegas need their alpha's premission to get things like heat suppressants, birth control, scent patches, etc. And like, bc Touya's been claimed he had an even harder time getting stuff legit bc he needs his alpha to sign off so he couldn't really get anything unless he went to like shady back alley dealers
I do think Dabi try to get heat suppressants when he could mainly bc heats would be really hard on his body and mental state because of his burns/chronic pain and illness/etc as well as bc he's bonded with an alpha but can't be with his alpha during his heats.
His heats are, like, agonizingly unbearable awful horrible he wishes he was dead levels of really bad
So, like. He doesn't really have access to resources like that and after a while of jumping through hoops and struggling he just said "fuck it" and stopped bothering to try to hide that he was an omega
I also like the idea that what enji did worked to a degree. Betas and weaker alphas can tell Touya's been claimed, and they can tell the alpha that mated him is really strong, so unless they're stupid, as strong as endeavor, or a prime alpha, 9 times out of 10 they won't take the risk of doing anything to Touya incase his alpha were to show up. Makes Touya more fucked up in the head too bc then, in his mind, his Dad was right to do what he did and it was an attempt to protect him
That does however mean it didn't deter afo since afo is a prime alpha, and he probably kidnapped him afterwards anyways. So at the end of the day, it didn't really protect him.
Afo probably threw some patronizing shit at Touya too when he woke up from the coma like "oh gosh, you poor little thing, your daddy claimed you bc another alpha touched you? What an insecure alpha, id never do such a thing" (he would)
Also slightly off topic but i do think afo and possibly Tomura and Kurogiri would require to know the league's alignments when they join, mainly bc afo and Tomura are both alphas and afo doesn't want another alpha in the group thatd try and challenge his or Tomura's leader position, Kurogiri would wanna know for the same reason + being protective of Tomura. So i think even if Touya did want to hide his alignment, in order to join he'd have to disclose he's an omega or lie about being a beta or something
But again i kinda like the idea of Dabi hitting a point where he's like "yeah, fuck it, I am an omega and i don't care what you have to say to that" esp if he suffers a lot of discrimination for being an omega for a while and just gets sick of getting kicked around
if anything likes picking fights with alphas and being defiant to rub it in their faces that he's an omega and they can't control him.

the tholian web episode rewrite
Tumblr media
this post is an episode rewrite of the tholian web, an episode about jim kirk being declared prematurely dead and the enterprise, particularly spock and bones, falling to pieces until his miraculous return as a weird space ghost. i thought this ep was very very very VERY good, it's one of my all-time favs, but the end was really jumbled and didn't quite give me the payoff i wanted, so a summary of the original (which you can skip if you've seen it) plus my suggested fixes are below.
the original
the enterprise, searching for the a missing starship called the defiant, finds it in a weird area of space that is "breaking up." when jim, spock, bones, and chekov beam aboard (in space suits) they find the ship dark and full of the corpses of its crew, who all killed each other in fits of insanity, and the ship threatening to disintegrate with them on it
unfortunately, they can't all be beamed back at the same time, and jim of course insists on being last, so when the ship does disintegrate ("interphases" into another dimension), it takes him with it - with only 4 hours of air left in his space suit
because scifi, spock works out that they can get jim back if they hold perfectly still until the dimensions interphase again. but this is an episode where every possible thing goes wrong - the area of space is slowly driving the crew insane and hostile, and titular tholians show up to fire on the enterprise for being in their space past the time they said they needed initially for their rescue of kirk
spock fires back, hoping to preserve what little chance they have of saving jim, but the battle not only damages the enterprise, it also (somehow) damages the area of space they were supposed to rescue jim from, which means they have no choice to declare him dead, AND the tholians come back to start weaving some kind of forcefield (the titular web) to prevent the enterprise from leaving
btw: bones HATES this. he thinks staying to fight was stupid because they'd already lost jim and now they're going to make his death meaningless because the rest of the crew will die too. he thinks spock not emoting is heartless, and asking him to find a cure for something that isn't a disease is unreasonable. he accuses spock of being a selfish short-sighted gloryhound, etc
after kirk's funeral (baller scene; it is interrupted by yet another person erupting in screaming), bones INSISTS on watching kirk's "last orders," a tape he made prior to his death meant to be played only in the event of his passing. once bones gets spock alone, he demands to know why spock stayed and fought instead of getting jim's crew to safety like he would have wanted. spock sort of gives a nonanswer and they start fighting again, but they get interrupted by kirk's tape, which basically urges them to get along - for bones to respect spock's ability to captain and for spock to trust bones's human intuition. after the tape finishes, there's a long silence, and bones apologizes
meanwhile, uhura has seen a ghostly image of captain kirk appear in her mirror. she runs out of the room yelling for spock, but finds bones instead, who chalks it up to the space sickness having gotten her. but more and more people report seeing kirk, until finally bones and spock start arguing about it - bones even spins spock around in his captain's chair to face him when he feels spock isn't taking his concerns seriously, and then has to apologize - spock replies, "i'm sure the captain would have said, 'forget it, bones.'"
at this point kirk finally appears on the bridge. spock tries to touch him but can't, though you can see kirk mouth "spock, hurry!"
things finally start going right: bones develops a cure for the insanity and the engines are repaired. they manage to get away from the tholian web and bring jim along with them.
at the end of the episode jim asks if they watched his last orders. at a single exchanged glance bones and spock decide to lie about it, and promise him they behaved perfectly well in his absence
but in MY version...
the problems
again, this ep is one of my all-time favs, but it's full and jumbled near the end. the setup was excellent, and the payoff was REALLY good, but it could have been even better.
the biggest issue was the stakes. tos loooves fake time limits and other arbitrary problems to up the stakes, but this is going way overboard. jim has 4 hours of air left in his suit AND the engines are busted from the fight AND the space is making the ship act weird AND the tholians are closing their web AND interphase only happens at random intervals AND the crew might not even be able to drive the damn ship because they're going nuts...there's so many stakes you kind of forget what you're supposed to be worried about
secondary issue was the spock and bones plot. i think they were fighting just for the sake of fighting, without any real reasons, and so their reconciliation felt a little hollow
not NEARLY enough kirk in this episode, particular cool space ghost kirk. ik it was a limitation of the sfx, but still. also, no spirk reunion. kirk deserved to see them both when he got back!!
the changes
the plot
firstly, i think interphase was explained a bit poorly, which feeds into some of the ??? near the end of the episode. i think what they wanted to convey was that some wall between dimensions was weak in this particular area, causing both the madness and the phasing in and out of reality, and these two dimensions crossed at random. i think it would have been better if there had been a predictable cycle (say, the two hour mark, an even number into kirk's 4-hour time limit), and i was never quite sure why they needed to hold perfectly still anyway
next we've got to work with the stakes. definitely keep: jim needing the 4 hours of air in his suit. the tholian web, since it is after all titular (sorry for using the word titular again) - though if it weren't, i'd be tempted to chop it too. the crew going bananas, since it is both wonderfully terrifying and can act as a "can we even drive this ship" question. however the damaged engines, and also the initial tholian wait time can def go. the "this space is making the ship itself act weird" too - perhaps the reason jim was beamed back last has something to do with the suits only being able to go one at a time, or him dropping his communicator and them not being able to lock on, idk.
so to recap: keep the scene where they beam aboard and jim has to be beamed out last, but the ship vanishes before the beaming is done. i like when jim sacrifices himself in an understated calm sort of way but i'd add just a LITTLE more rising dread here on his/the music's part because the scene is already very spooky and since i knew what was gonna happen going in i was nail-biting the entire time, and would looove to transfer some of that energy to our hypothetical new and improved episode
upon disappearance of the defiant, some scifi technobabble happens and spock figures out they'll have another chance to get jim back. unfortunately, bones doesn't buy that one bit. he and the rest of the crew (to legitimize his position and keep his accusations from seeming baseless) all think there's no possible way jim could have survived, that it's dangerous to stay where they are, and that spock should get them the hell out of dodge immediately
but spock's the captain and he says logic dictates jim might still be alive so long as there's air in the suit, so they stay. IMPORTANT: there needs to be a little bit of an argument here, involving spock saying something like "starfleet would totally agree with me and in fact if i don't fuck it up i'd be given a commendation" or something to that effect. he's not saying it because he WANTS a commendation, he's actually struggling to validate his decision to bones while also hiding the fact that he's extremely upset, but it's important. we'll get back to it later
the tholians show up. i think it would be better if the battle happened immediately to cut any confusing wait time, and this is what damages the enterprise. spock is successful in scaring the tholians off temporarily, but his ship is fucked and now they CAN'T leave, and to make it worse the tholians come back and start weaving their web. this leads us to...
spock & bones
NOW spock and bones have something concrete to fight about, instead of just bickering for the sake of bickering. bones thinks spock should have ran, but spock wanted to stay
i think a good twist for this argument in the episode that we have is that bones was under the impression spock wanted to stay for self-serving reasons (not normally an assumption he'd make about spock, but he's grieving too), and all along the reason spock wanted to stay was an emotional one. unfortunately in canon his accusations of gloryhounding came out of fucking nowhere, so we need a scene to seed in that subplot
logically speaking, the first thing that has to happen after jim's death is his funeral, which i'm saving for something else, so this scene would need to be BEFORE all that, perhaps during a pre-funeral moment of chaos where the crew are dropping like flies and the screaming arrivals are flying into sickbay. bones wouldn't be the only one bitter about spock's decision to stay behind, and someone, a fellow sickbay worker or some yeoman, makes a comment about they can't believe spock did this to them just so he can be captain, and bones is like girl WHAT and they're like yeah i totally caught him looking at transfer orders the other day
of course, spock doesn't really want to transfer off the enterprise. it's obviously a misunderstanding. i'm not totally sure why he has the paperwork...the best i can come up with is some starfleet official wanted there to be a token vulcan captain for some wack reason or another, because in tos whenever they have problems they can't logistically justify they always blame it on some backward starfleet official, so i don't see why i can't do the same
anyway, this is why we needed that argument earlier - when bones thinks back on it, spock's remark about the commendation all but confirms this new theory of his, when really had spock been on his game and not grieving he probably wouldn't have attempted to validate himself to bones at all
so this is the real conflict between them - bones think spock has gambled the lives of everyone on this ship because he thought he could outsmart the tholians, exploited jim's DEATH for his own selfish gain, and has hardened his heart against the palpable grief and loss that everyone else is displaying. none of that is true, of course, but spock would prefer to let people believe he doesn't have emotions and he has no idea anyone knows about the very irritating starfleet officials trying to poach him for another ship, so HE thinks bones is being extra irrational because of his grief (which is only a little true), right when they all need to be at their best. they will yell at each other about this for the rest of the episode.
anyway, bones is good and mad. you see the steam coming out of his ears all through kirk's funeral, which, again, is interrupted by someone starting to scream as the madness takes them. at the end of the funeral everyone is dismissed and starts to file out of the room and bones immediately jumps on spock about 1. going to see the tape and 2. his bad and selfish decisions
HOWEVER, i'd like to combine this scene with the scene of uhura spotting kirk's ghost. while people are still hurriedly leaving (mom and dad are fighting again, awkwaaard), uhura cries out that she's seen captain kirk and everyone turns to see...nothing there. bones shakes his head sadly and declares her the latest casualty of the crazy and he and spock personally take her to sickbay, barely restraining themselves from continuing their argument...
but the camera stays on the room after they leave, which slowly darkens and changes slightly in color, and the camera pans to...
a ghostly captain kirk, watching all of this with the quiet horror of a doomed man
space ghost kirk
my biggest problem with this ep was that i wanted it to be 2.01 my time of dying from s*pernatural, and it wasn't because the 60s have limits on their sfx abilities. in this fantasy world, though, i can do WHATEVERRR i want
CAPTAIN'S LOG, SUPPLEMENTAL: here kirk outlines what really happened to him, which is that he escaped the defiant during the attempted beaming but found himself floating in the enterprise in an alternate dimension - it's dark, like the defiant, and maybe green or something to visually denote the difference between kirk's dimension and ours. he can see and hear what's happening but no one, except uhura just now, can see him. he can't touch or affect anything. he is powerless. all he can do is try and figure out some sort of solution while he watches his ship falling apart - this time from kirk's pov, with lots of FUNNN spooky ambience - and, of course, spock and bones being extremely angry with one another, like fighting in sickbay after they've seen to uhura (when it's clear to jim and us that they're angry BECAUSE they're grieving)
then we get to kirk's last orders. spock tries to put bones off about this because seeing jim's face right now would kill him on the spot but bones wants to get him alone in order to violate the hippocratic oath by shaking him like a dog with a squirrel. finally spock reluctantly agrees is metaphorically dragged away to the woodshed
more arguing but this time with kirk as a third unseen participant. bones makes an accusation and he chimes in with "spock tell him it's not true!" spock implies something about bones's abilities being compromised when he's so emotional and kirk goes "mister spock you're out of line!" spock fields the accusations of wanting a captaincy by explaining the truth about the wack starfleet officials, but bones doesn't believe him at ALL. "if you didn't want a captaincy, why did you stay and fight!?" he's sure he's got spock cornered; now he'll have to admit the truth.
perfect time for the tape to come on. this is the same as it is in the episode, and when it stops and kirk's smiling face remains frozen onscreen, spock explains haltingly that he stayed because he wasn't sure jim was dead and couldn't bear the thought of leaving him behind. there: an emotion. he prepares for the inevitable vivisection.
instead bones apologizes, like he does in canon. i liked the line "it does hurt, doesn't it?" unlike spock, bones shows his emotions outwardly. as in canon, they get called away by plot stuff. bones leaves first. spock stays behind, looking at the screen, and reaches out almost as if to touch it. there's a moment where you think he'll break - then he puts it all away, turns on his heel and goes, and the camera pans back to kirk, speechless.
kirk notices that as time goes on and they get closer to that next interphase, he becomes visible more and more often. perhaps when he talks into the radio in his suit it could come over the intercoms or something. people start hearing him and then dismissing it. someone sights him in the engine room. spock and bones think the whole ship is going nuts, but kirk can't seem to get through to the two people who need to see him most.
so they have to do it on their own: reconcile. develop an antidote. a toast to their departed captain with scotty, where bones finally addresses spock as captain. then, with interphase growing closer, and the tholian web coming to a close, spock and bones are on the bridge when kirk appears in front of EVERYONE
(i liked bones spinning spock's chair around and then swooning into his arms and of course the "forget it bones" is CRUCIAL, so maybe the toast/drinking the antidote takes place on the bridge, and this happens just before bones drinks his share)
anyway, this time spock reaches for him, like he does in canon, instead of aborting the motion like he did in kirk's quarters when he nearly touched the computer. but kirk vanishes again, and spock's hand closes on nothing
the ending
now that they KNOW kirk is back, everyone has to rush to beat the clock in order to both escape the tholian web and bring their captain with them
everything goes well just like it does in the episode, with the small change of: as soon as spock has directed the ship out of the web, he gives the bridge to sulu and books it to the transporter room. he arrives just in time to see jim materialize on the plate alongside bones, and he probably stands at parade rest while bones welcomes jim home like he does in the episode proper, but there's enough eye contact happening between the three of them we know spock is just as relieved as the rest of them
NOW the scene at the end, where kirk talks about how empty that universe was and how he likes a crowded one much better. i have two versions of an ending in mind and can't decide which is more fun so i'm doing them both
#1: someone, spock or bones or one of the other bridge crew members, asks jim if it was totally awful being able to see the ship in such distress and not being able to help and he dodges the question by saying he couldn't see much anyway or some stupid bullshit. then HE asks spock and bones about his last orders and they also lie. and you get the idea from their various face journeys they all know each other is lying but they're going to pretend in order to remain professional and buttoned up - and then someone says something that gets them started again. bones exasperated, spock deadpan - but it has a totally different tone from the vicious fights from earlier and it cuts the tension easily. it's an all's well that ends well moment, because you can see jim is enjoying the nice version of their bickering again.
#2: kirk asks about the last orders, spock and bones lie, and kirk calls them out on it by reminding them he could see and hear everything. this is followed with the sort of gentle and loving admonishment that kirk is capable of when he's touched which basically amounts to: thank you for continuing to be excellent and professional to my ship while privately falling apart, but if i die again, please be better to EACH OTHER so i can go to my death knowing the two of you at least have one another. spock and bones, mildly abashed, agree - and then again, someone says something to start the friendly bickering and cut the tension before the credits roll
DONE. this CONCLUDES my episode edit of the tholian web, which again is really very very good already. we love a good character death fakeout and we also love SPONES. look for more overthought episode edits someday in the future

tell me about your gowan KWH oc PLEASE i LOVE it when people make ocs for this album (cause i actually did that too)
okay uhhhhhh haven't thought it through THAT much but here's the jist of him:
Benjamin Contact (full name Bryan Benjamin Contact) is a young Canadian rocker on the run from the MMM.
His friends tend to call him Bennie, but he is trapped in America because he can't cross the border without being identified. He's a wanted man not only because he's a foreign rising rock star, but also because he escaped capture by the MMM before he could be imprisoned with the likes of Kilroy. He was also framed for a crime like Kilroy was (though one not as serious as murder).
He's part of the underground resistance (he joined after his escape), so of course, he's well acquainted with Jonathan Chance- who is very sympathetic towards his situation (and around the same age as him, too).
Now one thing about our young Canadian martyr: those who know him know that he has an exceptional memory. The photographic memory he possesses doesn't make him a mastermind or a genius- but don't try putting anything over him, because he can and will prove you wrong.
During Benjamin's very brief time on the inside of the MMM, he was terrified, but made it a point to memorize as much as he possibly could about what he saw there. After he escaped his transport to prison, he met Jonathan and the others fighting against Righteous.
With the knowledge Bennie gathered during his capture, he passes it on to Jonathan. He becomes the brains behind Jonathan's defiant acts; rushing the stage on Righteous' tv show, breaking into the prison and jamming the mind control airwaves with a Kilroy video, spreading the Rock Code in order to communicate with Kilroy, etc. Since Benjamin has all the inside knowledge, and Jonathan has all the tech knowledge, they're an unstoppable team.
I also headcannon Benjamin being the one to teach Rock Code to Jonathan- who was never on the streets when it was a thing and doesn't know much of it. Benjamin, being a young rising star, was acquainted with bigger musicians. Through them, he had gotten word of the code becoming a thing when rock and roll first went underground. Though he never had to use it in Canada, his memory, of course, noted it and never forgot it.
BONUS: I'm picturing Benjamin and Jonathan in a resistance hideout shortly after meeting. Jonathan asks him what instrument(s) he plays. Bennie tells him that he mainly plays piano, and this excites Jonathan a lot, because he hasn't heard anyone play the piano in ages. Immediately, Jonathan brings him to a place where they hide instruments, and asks him if he'll play the piano for him. Benjamin does for a few minutes, and Jonathan just sits in awe and watches him, getting teary-eyed at the beauty he hears.

I was tagged by @imakemywings , thank you bestie!!! 💖💖💖😎
BNHA - Shouto Todoroki/Izuku Midoriya
I am obsessed with them. They literally live in my brain rent free. They're so sweet and feral. The Sports Festival really did change everything in the series. Izuku opened Shouto's eyes to make the fire quirk he had his own, and he hasn't been the same since (and neither have I). Izuku is Shouto's hero. He changed his life. Because of that, now Izuku has a best friend in Shouto (and let's be real, a boyfriend). These two are so ride or die for one another. Shouto constantly remembers what Izuku told him. Izuku can rely on Shouto because they're on the same frequency. Reckless. They'd follow each other into the dark.
Princess Tutu - Fakir/Ahiru
Ultimate enemies to friends to lovers. Fakir literally tried to kill Duck as Tutu like twice, he didn't care. But then he and Duck started working together and Duck changed his whole outlook. Fakir was still a jerk, but he grew softer and fonder of Duck, and he was so protective of her. Duck is Fakir's muse. He is able to write about her because he understands her, unlike Mytho, and she trusts him with his storytelling powers. Plus, Duck was really the only one who had real faith in Fakir as a knight. They're so sweet and tender with each other. (We were also baited and robbed of that kiss from the trailer.)
Sailor Moon - Haruka Tenoh/Michiru Kaioh
I have an entire blog just dedicated to SM and harumichi. That's how much I love them. Haruka was so hesitant to become a sailor scout and even dreamt about Neptune, but she eventually became one because Michiru saved her from a monster and also because she couldn't fight her own fate. They have an amazing dynamic and they trust each other wholeheartedly and work so well together. They are also on the same frequency and have the same goal. They are also very tender with each other, especially when they hold hands and Michiru tells Haruka she likes her hands. They also have Pure Hearts.
House MD - House/Wilson
I've watched this show since I was like 16 and I've always liked House and Wilson. They give off such a huge Old Married Couple vibe, it's fantastic. They can be stupidly toxic for one another, though lmfao rip. But they get along so well, the way they riff off each other is so golden. Plus, House gets jealous of Wilson's fluffy cat receiving more attention than him. 🙄
FMA - Edward Elric/Winry Rockbell
Probably the first OTP I fell in love with HARD. I've written a lot of stories for them. I have a fic collection of 101 stories, I think, plus one shots and some chapter fics I didn't finish, unfortunately, but the ideas are still there. They are ridiculous and I mean that in the sweetest way because Ed is horrible at expressing how he feels, so he proposed to Winry in terms of alchemy. And Winry was like girl, I'll just give you my whole life. LMFAO. This ship is amazing. Winry figures it out by herself. Nobody told her she loves Ed, she did that herself. She accepted it herself. She focuses on her work while also supporting Ed. Ed also does his part by protecting her, being there for her, trusting her skills, promising her that the next time he makes her cry it'll be with tears of joy, etc. They both did their part. They both played their roles in the story, stayed objective, and still managed to be there for each other. Winry is waifu for laifu 🫰. And Ed is so lucky to have her, he loves her. He was so flustered he recited the elements from the periodic table. What a DORK. I love them.
I'm tagging @tododeku-or-bust @an-aura-about-you @non-canon-central @fate-defiant @eclipsedrawsthings @greyladyblue 💖💖💖💖💖

Under specific circumstances, I do have a reason for Nanami to "fall for" Juniper. Universe Specific. Context: Imprisonment, Torture.
Juniper refuses to break. At first he's a hostage, and then he's a prisoner, and then he's a plaything like.
"Even after you sacrificed your freedom in exchange for [x] he couldn't be bothered to pay to have you back, so now you're stuck here uwu Hope you don't regret it~~~~. " and the dynamic shifts from uncomfortable but well-fed and otherwise unharmed, to very harmed all the time.
She instructs him not be permanently damaged (no dismemberment, no cannibalism, etc) ((they will do other things to harm him but y'know...)) because she wants to watch him beg for death before they even start that shit. (she thought it was so sad and pathetic that he'd give up his freedom for someone else, and she wants to watch him turn on them. regret it all and hit him with the, Oh you think you wish you were dead now, just wait and see)
Except he won't. He claws and bites and punches and kicks and strangles and hell, kills if he can, even as every single escape attempt is thwarted. And even as he grows increasingly exhausted, even as he asks, (but doesn't beg or plead) "So why don't you kill me already?" with an angry, firey look.
And she's delighted, and cooly threatens that she could eat him if he prefers. Hooking him up to life support and cutting off pieces. He'll die, eventually, but who knows how long that might take.
And he's clearly scared but he's still glaring at her in a way that excites her.
And she starts to do it, take pieces from him (starting with only one of those eyes. they're beautiful and enticing and she wants one for herself but she needs to know if he's still defiant after. you know?)
And even after he agonizes and screams and becomes weak, he stills swears at her, and glares at her and fights in any way he physically can.
And maybe sometimes she's sad when he eventually dies. And maybe sometimes she stops and makes a deal with him, if he'll be her companion then his beloved who he sacrificed himself for ("Do you regret it yet?") will be safe from her forever. And if he doesn't well... after Jun's dead, he can't stop her, can he?
Potential endings after the cut.
i guess the game ends would be like He finally does break and become compliant in the way of a boyfriend or a pet or something and by that point she's invested and triumphant and likes him as a trophy so keeps him around. OR Is disappointed the game's finally over and kills him
OR He's just trapped and miserable forever until he dies naturally
OR… like… she changes and lets him go because now that defiance of him never loving her makes her sad in a way where she either kills him (The same thing she adored is upsetting) or sets him free. And he's hesitant as it's like a trap and "if i leave now, do you just take it out on [x]?"… … and that breaks her heart a little because even if she accept that she doesn't deserve his love, neither does the other guy for abandoning him

What's a whumpee & caretaker dynamic you enjoy?
Some responses (not representative, just ones I picked; the same for every other written response question):
"Brothers! The reckless devotion, insane levels of protective measures, flipping the script so the eldest is whumped and the youngest is left uncertain and impulsive, ugh. I love brothers."
"One of the dynamics I've been enjoying lately is when they're complete strangers at first! I find it really interesting to see how they develop together"
"Literally any I love the aftercare"
"I love a medic caretaker."
"I really enjoy a whumpee and caretaker who were previously rivals/didn't get along, but now caretaker recognises that whumpee is in deep trouble and puts aside their previous differences for now/until the whumpee is recovered"
"I love a good "defiant whumpee and the caretaker who's very tired of their crap (but also still loves them so much)" real "Oh yeah, you sure don't need help, right? That's why you look ready to pass out, hm?" energy"
"Hard, defiant whumpee stuck in their old ways and thinks caretaker is out to get them and soft, caring and patient caretaker who just wants whumpee to get better and will never leave them no matter how hard it gets."
"My favorite is when they are strangers and find themselves thrown into a situation together. I do also love a “found family” situation."
"I will literally never get tired of protectiveness in a whumpee/caretaker dynamic. Could be from either one of them or both. I just adore it."
"I guess my favourite types of stories center around characters in groups with stiff hierarchies and high stakes in general (hospital staff, army/navy, pirates) so I like tough, impatient whumpees and kind, understanding caretakers, ideally in established relationships or who've known each other for a long time. I like caretakers who can see past the whumpee's efforts to conceal or diminish what they're feeling."

How do you personally define whump?
Some responses:
"Any work where the focus is on the emotional or physical harm experienced by a character and/or on the comfort that follows the harm."
"Hurting OCs but as an Olympic sport"
"Whump is a genre of fiction in which a character is put through a painful situation. It can be emotional or physical, though I'd typically label emotional whump as angst instead of whump. Hurt/comfort is whump with caretaking involved--not all whump is hurt/comfort, but all hurt/comfort is whump."
"When seeing a character injured or sick gives you butterflies in your stomach"
"I personally define whump as any moment in fiction where a character is suffering somehow. The most horrific gore fest could be whump. So could a character getting a papercut. Crying with no physical pain involved can be whump. Whump is largely subjective and that's part of what makes it beautiful."
"suffering! :D"
"The mistreatment of a character for the sake of enjoying the treatment itself or the aftermath."
"Hurting a character beyond what is strictly necessary to progress the plot, or a story written solely for the sake of hurting a character"
"Whump is made up of artistic works where the focus is on putting characters through The Horrors and then (optionally) letting them recover."
"Hurt/comfort and hurt no comfort sub-genres combined into one and cranked up to 11"

"Not a dynamic, but Caretaker beating the daylights out of Whumper"
"Rival leaders. Main sorcerer & evil sorcerer, both top of their game, rival captains of ships, etc. They're both strong, and they both have eyes on whumpee, but for very different reasons."
"whumper is caretaker's parent, and caretaker tries their best tobhelp whumpee despite not having the authority in the situation"
"Hard to pick! I'd say probably caretaker used to (or still does!) work for whumper"
"an abusive partner/relative and the person in whumpee's life who recognizes them for what they are while whumpee is still in denial about it"

What's a whump story you love? What do you love about it? ("Story" includes any non-written work as well)
Some responses:
"Blood of my brother. It has a good amount of physical and mental whump, found family, and world building for a previously built universe. Plus it focuses on all my fav characters"
"Heavenly Feast, because my beloved's finger prints are all over it. She's a very good writer and the characters really pop off the page."
"The og Teen Titans cartoon is what got me into the whump community and has a lot of the tropes I adore. I rewatch the whumpy episodes all the time."
"Brothers Keeper by Darkthingshappen on tumblr, A Taste of Your Own Medicine, Shattered and Play Pretend by Oddsconvert on tumblr and The Kennel and Behavior Modification by whumpcereal on tumblr. All of these stories are so fucking incredible in their own unique way and all of them are easy to follow and its easy to feel all the characters emotions as you read through them. Tons of whumperflies for days!"
"The Darkest Mind’s trilogy—it’s what made me realize that I love Whump"
"Reservoir Dogs. A guy bleeding out very dramatically the whole time? An extended torture scene with music and everything? The absolute drama of the ending?? And just a really good movie overall."
"All works by Whumpster-Dumpster"
"the last lab rat by @whumpy-wyrms is one of my favorite whump stories. i love that it has all my favorite tropes and i can really relate to the characters"
"The mandalorian has my favorite whump in any show! I haven’t been involved in many fandoms lately. I just adore mando as a character (loved masked or helmeted characters!) and he just. good at getting beat around a lot lol."
"So many too choose from but I find myself thinking about Stephan King’s “Misery” quite often"
"of vampires and men by whumpy-writings, i love all the different stories and relationships and how they intertwine"
"I think Kane & Jim by whumpsday is my favorite. The recovery arc especially, since the character dynamics are fascinating and the comfort is so soft and satisfying. I can't wait to see where the story goes in the future!"
"So many. Anything from Supernatural."
"Magnetic by MonsieurBlueSky, a Raven Cycle fanfiction which follows a boy in a mutually toxic relationship that gets more one-sidedly abusive (including emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, and both consensual and non-consensual drug use) as it goes on, contrasted with a new and healthier dynamic as it develops with another boy and complicated relationships with the boy's brothers. the fic covers the toxicity and abuse in detail, showing the realistic progression of it, and also the realistic rock bottom, fall out, and recovery processes. my favorite kind of whump has proportional recovery time and this fic devotes as much time to rehab, therapy, and reconnecting with family/friends as it does to the spiral into abuse and addiction."
"whumblr's Home Is Where The Hurt Is! It was one of the first whump stories I read, and I like how all the characters interact with each other. I especially like the "bigger badder villain" plot point with Emery, and Dennis is one of my favourite kinds of characters."
""that which you cannot bear" by britishparty on Ao3. It's a Duke Thomas-centric fic about how he isolates himself from backup due to being the "daytime superhero", which leads to him getting beat to crap because he's too proud to ask for help. I love exploring that side of characters; how far can you push them before they do break, and how long does it take to teach them that lesson?"
"Oh, I don't know! I recently watched HBO Rome and ran straight for ao3 to find whunpy fics, but I found almost nothing that I liked :(( That series had everything - old friends, sword-fighting, bad old timey medicine, travel and risk of suffering from bad weather/environment... and no-one wrote good fic about it! Outrageous. The series itself had a lot of excellent whump moments though."
"I think the fanfic 'Stab Me In the Back (I'll Catch You From Behind)' takes the cake for me. It's an amazingly well written story, so heartbreaking, plenty of emotional and physical whump and wonderful comfort at the end :] it's on ao3 btw"
"Hurt Locker. love seeing grown men struggle with PTSD and suicidal thoughts"
"Tbh I love the works of my friend (and I do often re-read my own stuff too BC nobody gets me like ME) e.g 'i've been hurt before (i wont be fixed again)' by pollencoveredman on AO3 (friend's work)"
"The Chain of Command Star Trek TNG episodes are my favorite. The first episode of BBC Dracula."
"Anything written by painsandconfusion, they're amazing... Especially Little Fox and Whumping The Whumpers. I love the way their scenes flow. They linger on the right things for the right amount of time, and the pacing is phenomenal."
"Cold Mountain (the film more than the book). Romantic M/F Civil War era whump."
"Legend of A’Fei. Fei being the short, feisty caretaker gf who’s ready to fight anyone; Xie Yun being the grounded, calm whumpee bf"
"@ashintheairlikesnow's Danny story. It hits all the whump tropes I like and includes my favorite dynamics"
""broken in a blink" by bunflower on ao3. I read it so long ago but sometimes I think about one specific chapter in which a bird-hybrid character gets whumped and I genuinely believe that that fic is where my love for whumping bird characters came from. Wing restraints, falconry hoods, clipped wings, whumpers messing with their instincts; its all just so AHHHH you can do so much with characters like this <33333"
"The exile arc of the Dream SMP. I love combos of physical and emotional whump, and this hit the sweet spot for me. The development of an emotionally abusive relationship, paranoia, neglect of physical appearance, explosions and burns, grief, and a suicide attempt. cc!Tommy handled it all with so much care and his acting was just melodramatic enough for the medium. It also gave c!Tommy some pretty severe trauma that affected him for the rest of his life on the server in big and small ways."
"entire character arc for Hyakkimaru from Dororo (canon work; Tezuka Osamu, but the 2019 reimagining is A+). Going from sensory deprevation to sensory overload on a wild scale is just a good time."
"All of TMNT 2003, I love the angst and drama."

What's a small or relatively unknown whump story you love? (Different to the previous) What do you love about it?  ("Story" includes any non-written work as well)
Some responses:
"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez"
"Not helpful for sharing bc it’s not published anywhere, but me and my partner putting our own ocs in situations together. One of my faves is about a mermaid getting caught in a storm and washed up on the rocks, caretaker finds him and helps heal him back to health and teach him about human life."
"I can't find the first fic I read anymore, but it was a Legolas whump fic where he and Aragorn traveled to a silent forest, and Legolas slept in trees with poisoned sap that absorbed through his skin and made him relentlessly in pain. Delicious. Otherwise, "Infinite Variations of a Summer Day" by Caelice on Ao3. X-men, Peter Maximoff time loop whump."
"The Prince of Thieves by little-peril-stories. Prison whump with slow burn M/F romance."
"the dark side of the sun by quietly-by-myself"
"Not the most unknown, but Home is where the hurt is by whumblr on Tumblr. The writing is fantastic, especially with the description of pain. The characters’ banter is also truly so entertaining."
"Gonna plug my own work, 'you are the angel i couldn't kill' by me, maisiec33 on ao3"
"Signal by whump-a-la-mode because the characters (especially Signal) are written so well and I love when there's 2 whumpers"
""heaven and earth and the king on his throne" by VoidBrat on ao3. I love it because its got a wolf-hybrid character that gets reminded of his traumatic past when he sees a similar situation happen to someone who is supposed to be his enemy, and subsequently feels sympathy for them. There's something about the half-wolf character pitying his enemy but still having to treat him as a foe/prisoner that I just DEVOURED"
"The Northwater (tv show + book). Jack O'Connell is on point + stephen Graham on the virtues"
"Oh god, it's this AMC Terror fanfic, "The Silence Between" by Johns_Farthings on ao3. It's a historical military story set in the Arctic, they're in the Royal Navy in 1846 (don't laugh!), an officer stoically gets hypothermia and his secret boyfriend is ordered to help him recover by cuddling him. It's so stupid, and so good. I come back to it often."
"FaoFinn’s everything. From the main cannon to every AU, it’s filled with delicious medically accurate whump"
"My favorite book, Good Times/Bad Times by James Kirkwood, has a few whumpy moments. That’s not the main focus, but it’s definitely a current throughout the story (I just really wish someone else would read this so we could talk about it.)"
"Hunger Pangs: true love bites by Joy Demorra! The whump in it is basically all of my favourite tropes. TOO many to list but it pushes all of my buttons and I love it"
"The Rare Bookseller and the Vampire Auction from oliversrarebooks! I don't tend to enjoy a few key themes in this series but the way everything is described is so incredibly lavish in the right places, it feels like I'm watching it happen rather than reading words."

Any other whump related stuff you'd like to talk about you can put here :)
Some responses:
"sleep deprivation whump is so fun i love it"
"I’ve already mentioned it but medical whump :)"
"I adore the whump community! You all are the best!"
"would be cool to talk whump together someday!" (i love talking feel free to send me an ask or mention me whenever)
"My personal favorite whump scenarios are when a character gets hurt due to an accident (car, ship, etc. crash, getting hurt while working, hurt in the woods, falling, getting caught in a trap, etc.), some force of nature (caught in a storm, animal attack, etc.), or in a quick fight or battle or blitz attack. The idea that things that aren't that personal can hurt a character is such catnip to me. I also like focusing on the recovery after such a calamity like recovery hurts! It's not fun! It's gory and gross! And there's SO MUCH opportunity for comfort elements, character development, or plot development to happen during recovery. I'm starting to like the rough physical therapy sessions and the wound dressing and the emotional rawness of recovery more than the actual events that caused them pain at the moment."
"Interrogations are underused. Thank you. And people still underestimate psychological torture."
"sometimes knowing all the real life medical stuff that would go into whump is more of a hindrance than a help for writing. dont be afraid to let suspended disbelief take over!"
"Giving whumpee a comfort gift is like so under appreciated 😩💖"
"Love love love Tumblr whump blogs!!! Best place for ideas and general medical info."
"I love medically accurate whump. My favorite tropes/ao3 tags are Broken Bones, Hiding medical issues, panic attacks, cave in, and blood and injury"
Thank you to everyone that's answered the form!! :) You're all so awesome!! :)

Before I go on and work on my next chapter for my Halloween fic (you should totally go check that out), I want to say something.
I firmly believe that there's more to Miruko than what we're always seeing of her, a badass who likes to fight who also happens to be the number 5 ranked Pro Hero in Japan with a Rabbit quirk.
Why, you may ask? Well...
In her debut episode, and I have brought this up before, she comments how being in a team is weak. However, this is the same Pro Hero who when duties have to be fulfilled even with other Pro Heroes, she doesn't argue. Evident enough that during the Hospital Raid arc (which is now here for the anime), she doesn't comment about how she hates working with other heroes. It wouldn't make sense given that a lot of help is going to be needed for this kind of mission and why even argue about it and waste time? Sure, she went ahead of the other heroes, but she also went in on an order made by Endeavor. Again, she didn't even argue. Just hopped on ahead. She even informed Endeavor about what was going on when the Nomus came out.
It reminds me of how Katsuki will also be like "don't tell me what to do", but still go on to do it anyways.
They both voice distaste about being on a team/be given orders, but do they stand there all pouty and continue being defiant? Do they go "No, I'm not doing that, I'm doing my own thing"? Nope! They're already doing what they gotta do, already in action.
Both characters are ready to go into a fight, sure. But! With Katsuki, it's evident (if you're a manga reader who actually have nothing against character development and have an open-mind) that there is more to Katsuki than just being some "angry, explosive kid". He has his insecurities, his regrets, his doubts, other emotions that just being angry.
Which is why I think about how what if Miruko is just more than what we see on the surface? She shares a similar personality and ideals to Katsuki, so maybe like Katsuki there's also more to her, too.
I doubt we'll ever get more like how she went from some kid that always got into fights to a Pro Hero, but it would be amazing if she did. I'd love to see if she had regrets, what are her fears, her likes (other than carrots and fighting), what are her hobbies, what's her relationship with her parents and her friends are like.
The urge to know is why I even started writing my Miruko fic! She is a character I think deserves to be show in a more human light. I feel like sometimes, people like or hate her because she's an attractive rabbit woman who likes fighting. Not wonder if she is more than that.
It boggles my mind that's really the case for a lot of female characters, not just for BNHA. For any piece of media!
Quite often, I see people jump on the idea of writing fics to give male characters backstories or "He's just so misunderstood" when it comes to a bad guy, etc.
Hell, some of the male characters didn't even get a backstory before fans were jumping all over that. Dabi is an example. Immediately, people were like "oooh, he's so sexy".
What about female characters? I will never grasp how people will hate a female character but love a male character for almost identical traits that female characters has. Like you're gonna hate a female serial killer character, but love the male one? What kind of...?
Seriously, if you actually like Bakugou but hate Miruko, I can't speak to you. (Before any idiot misinterpret this, I like Bakugou, too. Don't even try it.)
Really, I just want to say that I want more in-depth Miruko content. It's what she deserves!... *runs to write*

Character Study: Taimi (The Asura Side of the Argument)
Taimi: But you're still there, in the mountains and snow. We had to abandon everything.
Context (IBS: Champions: Truce spoilers) - Taimi and Braham are having an argument about whether it’s more important to fight Jormag or Primordus, and Taimi brings in the impact each dragon has had on their respective cultures. She makes the above argument (which has offended a lot of norn players).
I want to say: the asura don't have nearly the cultural argument the norn have. But for Taimi, specifically, this argument reveals a whole arc that's been happening in the background.
~oOoOo~
The Asura Side of the Argument
In contrast to the norn, who have a tradition of storytelling and can probably easily remember tales of a time before Jormag, the asura left a ton of knowledge behind. Primordus destroyed a lot. The asura fled with nothing, and they’re not storytellers. They have few records of life before Primordus. But they also don’t have much experience of him after: they just moved, rebuilt, and were fine. Not like the norn, who have kept fighting off Icebrood.
The Destroyers didn’t start bubbling up again until relatively recently: there’s very few Destroyer caves in the PS, compared to the awful ton of other dragons’ minions. Now, that was nine years ago, but I don’t think the asura would approach them the same way the norn do; they would just start finding ways to fight them. They're anti-Primordus, of course, but only on principle; otherwise they're just countering a threat.
Taimi has one line of dialogue that expresses asuran perspective: in HoT we discover Rata Novus, and Taimi, investigating the Novans’ tech, says: “these asura have a serious beef against Primordus!” I was rather surprised; of course they had a beef against Primordus, they stayed underground. They remained defiant. They probably had to keep fighting off the Destroyers. Primordus was the #1 enemy, their greatest threat.
But those are just Rata Novans. The asura who fled were fine, they forgot in a generation or so. So Taimi is surprised at the vehemence with which the Novans hated Primordus.
But then she spends weeks or months surrounded by Novan tech, reading their notes, learning their perspective and culture. And she knows (from Mordremoth, at least) how devastating Elder Dragons can be, so she respects her findings (rather than, say, dismissing them as ancient, not-fully-informed opinions). There’s a page or so of Notes From Rata Novus on the wiki (I think it was initially an Anet blog post?), and in one place Taimi expresses how natural it feels to live underground, how she perfectly understands why the asura here said 'no’ to Primordus and wouldn’t leave. (She’s a stubborn girl!)
The asura were designed to live underground. The Rata Novans knew that and wouldn't leave. The rest of the asura went above ground and forgot their natural habitat. But Taimi immerses herself in it and remembers. She can tell it's natural. She feels at home underground and she knows it's because this is where she was meant to be.
Then, in S3, she gets a fright when Primordus goes active in S3: she would have seen all the instruments she was monitoring go haywire. About Primordus. Her first thought would be: good thing all this equipment is here, quickly followed by there’s a REASON it’s all here. It's a real threat. She knew that before, but it’s different when it’s real. There’s a moment of fear right there, a primal recognition of a threat.
She immediately starts working on the Primordus tech the Novans had left behind, bringing in a friend of hers, Cami, to help develop and test the simulation room. She then sends people (led by Cami) to the Ring of Fire Islands for more and better research, etc.
And then, we show up and she shows us the simulation room she developed with Cami. Half an hour later she discovers that Cami, who was on the Ring of Fire Islands, has been killed by Destroyers.
This, as far as we know, is the first time someone close to Taimi has died. Died to Primordus. Because of her, Taimi: she sent Cami there, to her death. She's blaming herself now. She's got survivor's guilt.
And the Commander doesn’t stick around to help her through it. (Shame on us!) She’s feeling grief and guilt and responsibility. And, most notably, fear. Fear of Primordus.
So, after figuring out Primordus’ weakness, Jormag, she does the logical thing: she spends sleepless weeks developing her version of Omadd’s Machine.
When the Commander goes to the volcano Primordus is sleeping in? Taimi’s there. To help in any way she can. She blames herself for the situation with Balthazar and the machine, but she also wants to do her part against the enemy of her people.
But that also means she gets to see Primordus go back to sleep. Seeing it herself helps calm her down. Her worries are alleviated - for now - but her plans have only been put on hold. She’s confident the Commander will get around to destroying Primordus eventually.
During S3 and PoF, she gets to know Aurene and adores her. (Taimi learns: dragons can be allies!)
But in S4, she gets more negative dragon exposure with Kralkatorrik and the loss of Blish. And the loss of Aurene, even though she comes back.
Then, halfway through IBS, there’s Jormag, and she’s interested in that for two reasons: firstly, of course, there’s fighting Jormag, and she’s gone back to digging in all her notes about Primordus to figure out how to do that.
But after its rise, Jormag isn’t attacking anything, which at first is a nice respite during which Taimi can do more research. But Taimi is also back in her old notes about Primordus, and she remembers the fear and the panic and the sleepless weeks and Cami.
And maybe the threat Jormag’s hinting about is Primordus. It’s certainly the biggest threat to Jormag. And then Jormag (who has been building an aura of fear and mystery) says flat-out it's Primordus, and then Taimi’s instruments say seismic quakes, and she can imagine Destroyers popping up like the chak always did. Destroyers that killed Cami. Did she have nightmares? Maybe. All it takes is one.
Taimi wonders: is this how the asura felt before fleeing to the surface? Is this what the Rata Novans felt and said a stubborn 'no’ to? (She likes that - the stubbornness. The asura aren't pushovers.)
She won't bend in fear to Primordus. She knows how to fight it. Its weakness is Jormag (who isn't attacking... who is as afraid of Primordus as she is).
Oh, what’s that? Jormag wants an alliance? You’re on, dragon.
Two minutes later, out of nowhere, Destroyers pop up. In her lab. In Rata Sum. The one place she, along with every other asura, was sure Destroyers couldn’t get to.
Of course she panics. When Ryland opens a portal and Icebrood come through? She’s relieved. This alliance makes sense. They both oppose a common enemy. That’s the story of the Pact and the story of S4. That's the winning strategy, and always has been.
And Braham doesn’t get it. Braham wants to kill Jormag, to break the alliance - why? What’s the point of that? Primordus is the threat! Primordus killed Cami! Primordus has driven the asura out! Asura are built for underground, she felt in her bones in Rata Novus.
And if Jormag is helping, then what’s the problem, Braham?!
