Note
have you posted about your characterization of Joker? i really like your takes about him and would love if it were explained, but understand if not
i don't think i've posted about it explicitly beyond writing fics and comics, but i do think about it a lot
i acknowledge that everyone picks different options for their akira(/ren, i'll be calling him akira here in case i have to differentiate between his real world and metaverse personas), but imo there are way more basic facts about akira that are the same regardless of what dialogue options you pick than people act like there are
he's quiet
he's not really a silent protagonist unless you're incredibly broad with the term, but he still isn't exactly the most talkative guy. you may be saying mr argent sunshine, this is obvious, why are you bothering to state this. well you see i often joke that i have a test where i back out of a fanfic if anyone describes akira as "loud", "talkative", or anything else to that effect. i have seen this so often and it drives me insane. especially when people portray him as like, a quirky hyperactive ditz constantly saying stupid shit...? people can be funny while saying very few words, guys. (sometimes it's even funnier to say less. wild concept.)
also, while the doylist purpose of his quietness is obvious - making the player pick a line every other sentence would get annoying and would force them to write and record way more dialogue to account for all the responses - i think it's interesting to examine from a watsonian perspective. was he always quiet, or is it a mask in the same way as the glasses are? i personally imagine him always being on the quiet side, but it's a space you could play in.
2. caring so deeply about everyone and everything all the time
this to me is the real core of akira's character. the defining moment of his whole deal to me is the one-two punch of him saving a woman he didn't know and losing everything for it, and, when arsene asks, him saying doing that was not a mistake, i'd do it again if i had to, even though the woman he was trying to save turned around and lied to the police, resulting in his arrest. he comforts ann when they barely know each other, he awakens to arsene in the first place while trying to protect ryuji, who he's known for all of ten minutes. yes, he loves his friends and found family dearly (and i'm sure when i started talking about things that are true no matter what option you pick someone went "oh like how akechi will still be akira's wish in maruki's reality no matter what you do", yeah, that too) but he's also ready to throw himself into harm's way for the sake of people he's never met.
(if someone wants my full rant on this point ask me about sojiro akira parallels but a side point to this is that he's deeply unselfish, to a level that may not be healthy in the long run. he just so happens to have gotten the exact magic powers to make his heroics feasible. i'm just saying, without getting persona powers he still would have managed to draw kamoshida's anger, and he would have been expelled and probably gone to juvie! but he still would have done it because he can't just look away.)
3. oh god i don't want this to turn into a whole full rant so now i have to pick one last point then shut up. oh god oh fuck. i could talk about akira forever but nobody wants to sit through that. let's talk about masks.
i don't think of joker as The Real Akira as much as his metaverse appearance is another facet of him. looking at him from another angle. i think his flair for the dramatic is fun and i love him, but i also think the concept of theatrics and illusion and trickery (ha) being built so deep into him is very important. even though it's always for the greater good, he does tell people what they want to hear a lot (off the top of my head, maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of his non-PT confidants are at least somewhat based on false pretenses right from the start, even if they make him come clean in the end, and a lot of the rest involve akira being exactly who the person needs him to be.) you could argue that akira's always pretending to literally everyone fully all the time (I don't think this is true; i think he obscures parts of himself to make himself more useful or palatable to others, but i think arguing his connections are inauthentic is a) edgelord bullshit or, more commonly, shipper brain if they're arguing only one connection is authentic b) just not consistent with the way people work. i'm personally of the opinion that we're all always presenting tailored versions of ourselves to everyone around us - i'm ruder around my friends but kinder around my parents; openly ramble about my interests to my online friends but tend to keep a lid on them irl - these don't make some of my connections fake, it's just a difference in the facets people see. i don't think akira's tendecy to present different masks around different people is neccasarily the best way to go about life (in that i think it Will lead to an identity crisis inevitably) but it's definitely A Thing!
i lost track of what i was saying at the end there so i'll stop talking

Say You Love Me Series (1, 2, 3, 5)
Pairing: Thancred x Joker (mWoL) x G'raha
Summary: during the last calm before the storm, Joker, Thancred, and G’raha make a promise for the future. Also works for Vierapril prompt 29: Future
Note: what would have happened during the Returning Home room cutscene (the one where you choose who visits your room) since Joker is dating Thancred and G’raha. Spoilers for that, as the dialogue is very derivative of what is canonically said. I changed it slightly, mainly because I didn't want to just copy paste. I hope it isn’t boring with me including it >.< sorry
Word count: 1,317
Background info: This is a series of snippets of Joker’s life with Thancred and G’raha in my Magical Heroes AU, during any part of the entirety of the game. The AU elements may not be entirely prominent in all stories, but know that they do take place in an AU, and so some things may be different from canon. Not every part will be in chronological order. I’ll just be writing them as they come to me. I’ll always give a bit of context of when it takes place. It isn’t necessary to read the previous ones, but they may help with understanding some things, such as specific gestures, or phrases they do/say to each other.
Thancred had come into the room, unnoticed, to find Joker holding his head. He knew by now what that meant, and hurried to his side. He very gently placed a hand on his back, knowing it would startle him regardless, but ready in case Joker collapsed.
Joker came back to himself. He was shaking. He jumped when he noticed Thancred’s presence, just as he’d predicted, but he held him close.
“Sorry,” Joker said with an awkward laugh.
“What did you see?,” asked Thancred. “On second thought.. maybe it’s best I don't know.”
“I’d rather not talk about it,” Joker said. “Where’s G’raha?”
“He’ll be along. Actually.. there’s something i wanted to ask you while he isn’t here.”
Joker looked at him.
“It’s nothing so dire,” he assured.
They moved to sit on the bed, facing each other.
“I’m ready to listen,” Joker held his hand.
“Well, we may have quite literally entered our final days,” Thancred said. “and if that’s true, then everything we did for Ryne and the first was meaningless..”
He squeezed Joker’s hand, “If it comes to it.. If running is our only option.. I don’t know if I'll have it in me to make the right choice. I trust you and the scions with my life, and I hope that’s mutual at least sometimes. I’d never forgive myself if my stubbornness put any of you in danger.”
Joker brought Thancred’s hand close to chest, listening carefully.
“If you see me turning a blind eye to reality,” he continued. “Beat some sense into me, would you? I trust you to be the only one able to keep me in line.”
Joker smiled at him. “I can do that. I know how hard it’ll be, but I'll be here to help you through it. And give you the slap you need.”
Thancred chuckled, hugging him. “I knew I could count on you.”
G’raha slipped quietly into the room, closing the door softly.
“Oh, good,” Joker perked up. “I’m happy you’re both here now.”
“Ah, sorry to keep you waiting,” G’raha smiled. “I’m glad you’re awake. I thought maybe you’d be resting, so I was trying not to disturb you.”
Joker reached a hand out to him. G’raha hurried over and joined them.
“Since you’re still up,” G’raha fidgeted a bit as he spoke. “Can I say something?”
“Of course you can,” said Thancred, making more room for him on the bed.
Joker nodded in agreement.
“Well..,” G'raha hesitated. “I'm afraid this might be our last quiet night for some time. I.. I worry about you, Joker. You’ve bested all your enemies-Zenos, and even Zodiark- but the victories have come at a cost to yourself.”
G’raha’s ears were downturned. He held Joker’s hand a bit tighter and closed his eyes.
“Everyone has limits, even you,” he said sadly. “I’m worried the weight of the Final Days will be too much.”
He looked at Joker resolutely now, and held his hand to his chest, much like Joker had done to Thancred moments before.
“You needn’t bear it alone,” he said. “Let me share the burden. I may not have the capacity you do, but I can shoulder a few more satchels from your mountain of um.. baggage.”
“G’raha,” Joker said softly. He couldn’t help but smile at him.
Meanwhile, Thancred couldn’t help but feel slightly guilty as he listened to G’raha’s speech.
“You’ve done so much for me, and it’s only fair I return the favor,” G’raha continued. “Of course, it needn't always be troubles we share. Moments of joy seem few and far between but we’ll look back and remember all of this fondly. Every part of it, because we got through it together. And of course there’s all our journeys yet to come. To the ends of the world and beyond!”
“And beyond,” Joker nodded, and hugged him tight. “Thank you G’raha. I know I always have you both behind me.”
He noticed Thancred’s solemn expression, and touched a hand to his cheek. “Don’t feel guilty.”
“I only hope I haven't added to your burden,” Thancred said.
“I promise you haven’t,” Joker responded.
G’raha blinked between them, confused. Thancred gave him a soft smile.
“I asked Joker to be the one to make sure I'm pragmatic about the situation,” he explained. “But now I realize I should've spoken to you both. I was afraid to burden you, G’raha, while I burden Joker too easily.”
“I know you’re worried about her,” G’raha said, immediately knowing what Thancred was referring to. “I’m here for you, too. If Joker can’t knock sense into you, I will.”
Joker smiled at them. “We both will. I’ll never think of anything you ask me as a burden.”
Thancred nodded. “All that being said.. there is something else weighing on my mind.”
They looked at him with concern.
“I was going to wait until everything had calmed,” he said. “but G’raha’s words have made it unbearable for me to hold it back. And there may not be any better time than the present.”
“What is it?,” G’rah prodded, growing increasingly worried.
“I’ve been thinking,” Thancred was suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed. “Well, I've been thinking I want nothing more than our souls to be eternally bonded.”
G’raha gasped, his ears twitching. He looked at Joker happily. “Oh, Joker, he wants to marry you!”
“You really want that?,” Joker asked, tears already beginning to form.
“I do,” Thancred smiled. “Ideally, it would be both of you, and I hope I haven't hurt you by asking this, G’raha. That is the other reason I held off on the notion.”
G’raha shook his head earnestly. “No, never. I completely understand. You two have been together much longer. It’s natural you would choose him for this. I’m really truly happy you chose to ask.”
“I would love to,” Joker said, the tears falling. “We’ll get married, and then we’ll have a private ceremony to include G’raha at least in spirit.”
G’raha’s own tears sprung from his eyes as he hugged Joker tight.
“And as a last request,” Thancred said seriously, taking G’raha’s hand. “Should anything go wrong.. should anything happen to me..”-he looked into his eyes- “I want you to marry Joker.”
G’raha nodded, holding his gaze. “I promise.”
Joker hugged them both, taking a moment to press his forehead against each of theirs. “We’re all going to make it out of this together. I won’t let anything happen to either of you. To anyone. We’re getting through this, one way or another, and all of our friends will be there for our wedding.”
The three of them held each other tight. Scared and unsure, crying.
Eventually, they’d made themselves more comfortable. The light was turned off, and they lay on each other and caressing anything they could reach. Hair, arms, a furry ear. Just as they always did.
“Should I wear a dress?,” Joker asked suddenly, breaking the silence and making them all laugh. “I mean, I don't mind a good dress every now and then.”
“You look pretty in dresses,” G’raha smiled. “You look pretty in anything.”
“He’s right,” Thancred agreed. “You could wear a sackcloth and you would still be the most gorgeous man I've ever seen.”
Joker nuzzled into Thancred's chest. “Aw, what did I ever do to deserve you two?”
“You deserve everything your heart desires,” Thancred mused, stroking Joker’s back and scratching G’raha’s ears.
G’raha hummed in agreement, starting to purr softly.
The trio was finally drifting into sleep. A sadness washed over Joker as he remembered his most recent vision. He tightened his grip slightly on both of his lovers.
“Say you love me?,” he whispered into the darkness.
But the other two had already fallen into slumber; he was met with silence. He took a shaky, deep breath. He forced himself to empty his mind. They were here. He could feel them. He would protect them. He needed to.

Hot take: Ryuji Sakamoto should’ve been the player protagonist of “Persona 5″. Just merge his storyline with Joker’s and write Joker out.
Reasoning:
1) Ryuji has all the traits of a shonen battle anime protagonist. He’s dumb, he has blonde hair, he’s impatient, he gets mocked by his friends, he can be kind of a perv, has a heart of gold, and is generally upbeat about life. Also, since he’s a delinquent who got in trouble by standing up against a bad man, he’s basically Joker but with a distinct personality.
2) Ryuji got the anime “unlocking power” moment that most shonen protagonists get. His friends were getting hurt, he fell to his knees and started crying about being a failure, he regained his confidence because of righteous anger, and then he unlocked his inner Persona because of the power of friendship or something. When I went through that cutscene, literally my first thought was, “This is some Black Clover shit right here.”
3) Joker doesn’t really do anything in the main story, nor does he develop as a character. The game tries to make him significant, but all he does is stand around and watch as the other characters have important discussions about the story. Even halfway into the game, I’m still confused why Joker is even here. It’s like I’m watching Naruto, but this rando quiet dude keeps being put on missions despite not really contributing to the discussions.
4) The game is already pretty linear, so there’s not really that much stock in Joker getting dialogue options. I can choose an answer like, “Let’s not have Makoto join the team” and all that will happen is that the team will tell me to fuck off and recruit Makoto anyways. So, not much would change if Joker gets cut from the story and you just play as Ryuji without being able to decide what he says in the cutscenes.
5) The ONLY times where the dialogue options felt significant is when I was advancing the side stories with the Confidants (aka the romantic paths). And even then, you could just have Ryuji do those. It’s really not that big of a deal.
6) This one I admit is a bit of a biased point; I feel like Ryuji as the “romantic lead” would be more interesting than Joker. In the actual game, all the girls are already interested/intrigued by Joker. I feel like it’d be more fulfilling if you had to find love as Ryuji since you’re starting at rock bottom. Plus, it’d make the skill tree feel even MORE significant since you literally had to improve yourself in order to win over your love interest
(For example, Makoto doesn’t care for Ryuji since he’s dumb. I feel like it’d be more narratively fulfilling if, in order to win over Makoto, Ryuji had to work his ass off in order to improve his knowledge since his character in the game is canonically not the brightest).
7) Regarding point 6, it doesn’t even need to be romance. Ryuji just makes more sense as the character who needs to “improve” himself since he starts off the game as the least liked/least remarkable student in the school. Aside from guts, it’s easy to imagine him as someone with no charm, knowledge, proficiency, or even kindness.

mass effect replay thoughts, episode 3
episode 1 / episode 2 / episode 4 / episode 5 / episode 6 / episode 7 / episode 8 / episode 9
the Normandy is made of glass and I have so many stones to throw
no-one on that writing team had any business writing allegorical subplots about slavery and forced sterilisation of enslaved and/or indigenous populations — it’s one thing to use it as allegory, it’s another to present it as an issue with a moral grey area, as chat very rightly pointed out during the stream
Tali presenting “ we created slaves and we knew they’d turn on us immediately upon becoming self-aware” as a foregone conclusion with no other outcome — crucially, with no responsibility for de-escalation lying with the quarians…
again, i know the point is that these characters will grow past this and that it’s specifically on the player to nudge them in the right direction, but it’s still incredibly frustrating. because you WILL have players earnestly agreeing with Tali, or with the genophage. there are people, politicians, community leaders, to whom these are reasonable positions to hold.
and they’re not. THEY’RE NOT.
the framing is such centrist bullshit. there’s a straight line from this to Detroit Become Human’s “the public have to love you for you to succeed, so you can’t be angry in your protests, ever” constraints; on top of the blatant butchering of the civil rights movement metaphor. and do not get me started on the bad ending variations.
the geth were given no other choice than defend themselves — the quarians made themselves their oppressors. they could have so easily given the geth rights of personhood and helped them find somewhere to live. instead, they attempted to wipe them out. expecting the geth to revolt violently says more about the quarians than the geth — it says plenty about in whose image they created them.
the quarians in charge of the geth “labour force” were called overseers. hello, plantation vibes.
at least with Wrex there’s a character present who offers the perspective of a culture impacted by disastrous choices like the genophage, including schooling Shepard on her ignorance. but it's cold comfort.
Ashley. Pressly. shut the fuck up, you xenophobes.
the way that you literally CANNOT turn Kaidan down once you’ve just asked him some damn questions about his history. like, yes, i want to know about brain camp and biotics! it’s part of the worldbuilding! Kaidan is my window into that! but because i’m playing femshep there is literally no dialogue option, not a single one, that lets me tell him i’m not interested-interested. there’s only super flirty, flirty, and backhanded-flirty.
like, even the “mean” dialogue option has him be like “oh i need some time to write in my diary about this, commander” because what shepard SAYS is “i talk to everyone but i don’t enjoy it all the time.”
contrast this with Joker, whom you’re asking HORRIBLY INSENSITIVE questions about his disability, but at least he doesn’t think you’re flirting with him
I see you, Garrus “it’s ok if I break the rules and don’t answer to anyone” Vakarian
the way that Garrus sees Shep’s Spectre rank and assumes she wants the same above-the-law life he’s craving
it’s incredibly apparent in how he argues that his father wouldn’t like Shepard very much — there’s so much to unpack there.
that Shepard ever even wanted to be a Spectre in the first place, for one. yes, she accepted the Council’s offer, but she was on that job interview without any idea what was going on.
for another, to Garrus, Shepard’s Spectre status eclipses her opinions and rules (he doesn’t know her yet, of course). but he doesn’t consider that Shep, despite her rank and making use of the resources it affords her for good, might have personal opinions and professional ethics that his dad very much would approve of
i know this is a lot of griping. i know that the series does get smarter about some of this and it’s often written ambiguously to afford the player space to form their own opinion. i appreciate (as in, acknowledge) that this includes playing a Shepard who believes the geth should be wiped out and the genophage was the best solution.
it’s not that i don’t think these plotlines should exist, or that the NPCs shouldn’t be flawed in these ways. i simply think that it needed writers who know how to handle this with a lot more grace and care. crucially, as something that's real. not as a thought experiment.
the issue with Kaidan is a mechanic/agency issue; forcing you into a het relationship that you super may not want without signalling that this leads you down the romance path just by asking some questions out of professional curiosity/curtesy, resulting in all hell breaking loose when you go for Liara’s romance arc
finally, a happy thought: if your head engineer isn’t horny for the warp core, why the fuck did you even hire them?

Persona 5 Royal musings after two months
For all both of you who are curious where I’m at in my first playthrough of Persona 5 Royal, I’m at the point where I’m extensively dealing with two of the most irritating “Confidants” in the game — Sae and Akechi. In other words, I’m at the “Casino”-themed palace.
It’s pretty wild that I’ve been playing this for two straight months every single night and still have lots left to go. I think I must’ve forgotten just how HEFTY these mainline Persona games are. They constitute a *commitment.*
Tumblr media
Sae is more surprised to see her sister and colleague in the courtroom than she is to learn that the supernatural is real. Seriously.
Various thoughts at this time:
I really liked the structural and puzzle elements of the “Pyramid” palace the most of the ones I’ve experienced so far. I’ve gotten the most lost in the Casino — I wound up doing circles in one area like three times before I found my way out. And it’s interesting to me how the first two palaces had this whole “the closer you get to their treasure, the more distorted and insane the palace becomes” thing going, but they totally dropped that aspect after the second one.
I’m not really sure they justified the “space” palace very well. Every other palace has something to do with how the target perceives/interprets their location/reality, right? But there’s never any talk of that target perceiving his world as being in space or being a spaceship or anything like that. He’s just... really into space-themed stuff, and that’s it. *shrug*
Speaking of that palace, OH MY GOD THAT BOSS FIGHT. I had to attempt it four times, and I had to keep referencing strategy guides and tips online to optimize everything about it. I finally beat it on the fourth try with a whole 28 seconds to spare. Anyone who is coming into this game? I strongly recommend you look up how you can best prepare for that fight LONG before you reach it, because I had to spend a load of time creating special move cards, fusing various personas to reach perfect balance, leveling up specific characters to get them to have the moves I needed, etc. It SUCKED, but apparently this is a known issue with the “Royal” version among players. Evidently, he’s considered the hardest boss in the game now. So I guess it’s all downhill from here, at least... ? Maybe. (ETA: Yes, it was smooth sailing from here.)
Is it me, or do some of the lesser targets within Mementos really seem like they should have their own full-blown palaces? From a story perspective, that is. Take the leader of the “ADP,” the person you have to target for the “Fortune” confidant: This dude’s influence spreads pretty far, and he’s done a ton of messed-up things to lots of people over the course of numerous years. It sure seems like he’d be palace-worthy... he just doesn’t have one because he’s not part of the MAIN storyline. You get me?
Considering that they are now Japan’s Most Wanted, the Phantom Thieves sure suck at keeping a low profile. The team’s roster has grown to TEN friggin’ members with the addition of Jerky Akechi, and that’s not even getting into how everyone whose confidant I max out suddenly knows I’m a phantom thief... even if it doesn’t make any sense for them to figure that out. (I’m looking at you, “Sun.” There’s just no way, dude.)
Tumblr media
Oh, good! I’d been worried that my disdain was one-sided.
Ever since the two protags of Persona 3 Portable brought us such distinct personalities for our heroes via their dialogue options, it’s been downhill for the series’ protagonists. P4′s leader - Yu Narukami - and P5′s “Joker” (a.k.a. Ren Amamiya) are basically blank slates as presented in the games. Their dialogue choices make it clear that they are both largely unflappable, but otherwise? Their personalities are pretty malleable. The subsequent spinoffs and (especially) the anime adaption of P4 helped shape Yu into more of a clear character, at least, but... Joker seems to possess the potential to be largely the same dude? His sense of humor is quite similar, at least, but I guess we can’t say for sure how much he uses those options. I’m just starting to watch the P5 anime — which I’m hoping will more clearly delineate who he is — but I don’t have any kind of handle on him yet. EXCEPT...
Mishima is a wonderful boy who deserves NOTHING but friendship and respect. However, more than once I’ve been handed a list of dialogue choices that are nothing but demeaning towards him. I seriously can’t even believe the outing to the theme park with Mishima, in which Joker is a) invited there by Mishima, b) comes across entitled pissant Shinya Oda, and c) promptly decides to ignore Mishima in favor of Oda. What the FUCK. This leaves me thinking that if Joker DOES have any clear personality, it’s “guy who treats loyal friends pretty shitty.” ........Damn. I guess you only get kindness and attention from Ren if you’re either actively helping him in the Metaverse or might potentially fuck him. Otherwise, he ain’t got time to care about you. COLD.
Tumblr media
"Whoaaa! Looking like a dick, Joker!” - Morgana, probably
No matter what I may gripe about above, I’m still addicted to this game. Can’t help but still love the series in its P3-and-onward incarnation. And much like previous games, I tend to find the day-to-day choices of how to spend my time to be more addictive and enjoyable than the actual dungeon-crawling play.
Yusuke may not be a party member I use all that often, but as a character? He’s absolutely a favorite of mine. Funny and weird and delightful. And Ryuji is STILL a wonderful guy who deserves a ton more respect from his friends.
Yeah, so I opted to romance the sexy goth doctor who always calls me “my guinea pig.” ........... Don’t judge me.

Jarley Quinn ↬ t.h
Tumblr media
A/N: Wow, one of the longest things i ever wrote! got this idea after i watched the joker and Harley Quinn birds of prey and i thought it would be nice to write it... I hope this doesn´t flop, sorry if it´s crap. anyway, enjoy! :) ily,liz <3
pairing: Tom Holland x reader
warnings: violent actions, mentions of nearly blowjob?, swearing
w/c: 1.8k
Requests: OPEN
Summary: Your win an Oscar for your amazing role as Harley Quinn´s and Joker´s daughter, but you didn´t knew that Tom Holland aka your role model would be there too.
this handwriting = actions and dialogues in the movie
masterlist || taglist || requests || blurb event
Tumblr media
„Guys, i think that i´m gonna pass out“ Tom said as they all took their seats in the huge hall.
„Calm down Tom, it´s okay, your gonna win this“ Harry told his brother.
Today was the day.  Today were the oscars. And Tom got nominated for the best leading role in an action / psycho / R rated movie. Cherry.
And the best thing is, when he should win the oscar, then their gonna show cherry on a huge screen in the hall. That´s sick.
Leonarde Dicaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and a lot of other amazing and unbelievable good actors are gonna see his movie then. Sounds like a dream to him.
„Thomas, son, it´s fine, we all believe in you! Your performance in Cherry was amazing and even the Russo Brothers said that it was an oscar worthy performance! Find someone to beat that!“ His mother, Nikki, said to her son with a small laugh.
Just when Tom wanted to answer, the Russo brothers came and both sat down next to Tom.
„Hello, guys!“ Anthony said.
„Hello, how are you?“ Dominic asked them.
„Were good, and excited“ Joe told Dom.
„And i´m fucking nervous“ Tom whisperd.
„Hey, hey, it´s okay to be nervous. Your gonna win this, your gonna rock your speech and in the end everyone will clap for your performance after they all saw the movie!“ Anthony told tom.
Tom could only nod before a man came on the stage and started to talk,
„Hello Ladies and Gentleman! I hope you all feel well and excited!“
The man went on with his speech and after about 15 minutes talking about some random stuff, he finally said the words that the entire hall craved for.
„And now i´m gonna announce the winner for the oscar in the category action / psycho / R rated movie…“
Tom was shaking, Nikki and dominic prayed for their son and Tom´s brothers tried to calm him down a little bit.
„Calm down“ Joe whisperd to Tom.
„I c-can´t“ he stuttered quietly.
The whole hall was so silent, it was creepy.
„Y/N Y/L/N!“ the man on the stage said into the micro.
Tom had his head hung low after his name wasn´t said.
Everyone started to clap, but when they saw who came on the stage, everyone looked very confused.
„What the-„ Tom said.
A young women, maybe about 21 – 22 years came on the stage with a beautiful suit on her body.
Tumblr media
„Hold on, is this the wrong catergory?“ Tom said.
„No, it´s the action / psycho / R rated movie category“ Anthony answerd.
„How can she-„ before Tom could finish his sentence, you started to speak,
„Hello Ladies and Gentleman, omg i can´t belive this, sorry, I won´t steal your time, i just want to thank the cast of this amazing movie and my family and friends who support me since we started filming this masterpiece. Thank you so much and enjoy the rest of the night, love you“ you finished.
„And now, let´s watch the amazing movie of the oscar winner! Jarley Quinn!“ the man said with a huge grin into the mic.
„Jarley Quinn? Isn´t it Joker?“ Harry said.
„Or Harley Quinn?“ Sam said.
„Boys, let´s just watch it“ Nikki told her son´s.
They said a quick and quiet ´okay, sorry´ before the movie began.
Jarley Quinn was written in thick and big letters on the screen, then you appeared onto the huge screen.
You stood infront of a mirror and looked at your reflection in the mirror infront of you. You took each side of your mouth with your fingers and spread them into a big smile before you let me fall and started to cry, tears were running down your cheeks as you still looked into the mirror where you could saw your painted face and green dyed hair. You always painted yourself just like your father and mother did. And the hair were another thing you got from your father. It was funny and interesting.
Tumblr media
After this little opening, you went to two graves with the names Joker and Harley Quinn written on them.
„So that are her parents“ Tom whisperd to himself.
„Obviosly“ Harry huffed.
„I´m so sorry mamma and daddy, i´m gonna make you proud and i´m gonna make the entire world remember your name, and my name i swear“ you said.
And then, then the scenes came where everyone understood why you got the oscar in the first place. Even the Russo brothers were impressed.
„Fuck“ you whisperd to yourself as you saw that you need money for the pills you were fucking addicted to. You don´t even need all these pills, but you basically craved them with passion.
„Not again, please not fucking again“ you yelled through your apartment as you tried to find some money anywhere in the living room or kitchen. You even looked in the bathroom.
„Well, i don´t have another option, so“ you said to yourself in a slightly bitchy way.
You grapped your weapon and put it into your weapon holder that was covered up by your red suit jacked from your father.
Just a few minutes later you stood with a bag full of money, a weapon in your other Hand and huge smile on your face that is covered in the iconic Joker makeup in the middle of the bank while every single person around was on their knees and begged for their lifes.
„I won´t hurt anyone, i swear okay? I just wanted the money, but before i leave, i would like to say something, of course if i´m allowed to“ you said.
The bank women nodded quickly with her head before you said your last sentence,
„You look so good on your knees, just like i did yesterday“ you said with an amused laugh before you shot the person that was kneeling infront of you right between their eyes.
You laughed hysterically while you ran out of the bank with the bag and your beautiful weapon.
„Oh m-my g-good“ Nikki whisperd to herself with an shooked expression on her face.
„I mean, that was sick, but it was good“ Anthony said.
„That´s right“ Joe agreed.
„How has she done that with so much ease?!“ Tom whisper – screamed at himself.
After you swallowed your pills, you decieded to go into the club and have a good time, well at least you wanted to have a good time.
The second you stepped into the club, people went silent and didn´t dared to move. But you didn´t liked it.
„What? C´mon, go ahead with your talking about whatever you were talking about! I won´t stop you!“ you laughed.
You really weren´t here to stop anyone, so you just orderd a drink and looked through the club. You stopped your gaze at one specific couch in the corner of the club, a man, trying to rape a poor little young girl.
„Let´s have some fun“ you whisperd to yourself before you took a huge sip from your martini and walked to the scene.
„Can i help you?“ The man asked as he saw you standing infront of him while he held the poor girl in a tight grip on his lap.
„No, but can i help you, little girl?“
„N-no“ she stuttered.
„Okay“ you shrugged before you walked away.
Hold on, let me correct, about to walk away.
You punched him with your fist right on his nose.
„Ow! What the f-„ before he could finish his sentence, you grapped your weapon and hit his temple with it.
He fell unconscious onto the floor and you laughed again in a quiet creppy way before the girl ran into your arms.
„Woah, woah, woah, i only saved you from getting raped, not more“ you said.
„You saved my life, thank you“ the girl said.
„No, i saved your virginity“ you said before you removed yourself from her grip and went to the exit. Before you could exit the loud and sweaty club, a young but confidence looking men grapped your wrist.
„Hello beauty“ he growled.
„Hello, with what can i help you mister?“ you said with a smile on your face that was still full of the iconic makeup of your father.
„How about you help me with the little problem down there“ he said as he looked down to his own…crotch.
„Of course! Your house?“ you answerd with a little smirk.
„Mine“ he said before he dragged you into a car.
Just a few moments later, you were on your knees right infront of his naked figure while he sat comfortably on the couch.
„You gonna be daddy´s good girl?“ the man growled quietly.
You nodded with your head before you opened your mouth and stuck your tongue.
„Good“ he whisperd before he put his hand on the back of your head and directed your mouth to his dick.
But before he could get what he wanted, you pulled your dagger out from your dress pants and stabbed him in his… dick.
„Ohhhhh shit“ Tom hissed while he lightly held his crotch with his hands.
„Fuuuuuck, i know this isn´t real, but that fucking hurt“ Harry said.
„Okay, wow“ Anthony whisperd.
„OW FUCK, YOU LITTLE SLUT!“ the man yelled in pain.
You just started to laugh hysterically again and grapped your lighter, plus a tiny Matchstick from the pocket of your suit jacket.
„Hold on, wha- what the fuck a-are y-you doing, NO AHHH-!“ the man yelled before you lit the matchstick with fire and threw it on his naked body.
You still didn´t stopped laughing in this creppy and loud way as you walked out of the house with a cigarette between your red painted lips.
The next few scenes were violent, brutal, sexual and absolutely disgusting, but at the same time… definitely oscar worthy.
„Okay, that was unbelievable“ Harry said as the credits started to roll.
„You right, that was a true masterpiece“ Sam said with a tiny laugh.
„It w-was really g-good, yeah“ Tom said quietly.
After the movie ended, you got a lot of praises for your performance. Finally, The hollands and the russo brother´s found you and walked to you.
„That was amazing Miss Y/n!“ Anthony said.
„Oh please call me y/n, and thank you“
„Yeah, it was great“ Tom said quietly.
„Thank you so much- hold on, you are Nico walker from cherry right?“ you asked Tom.
„Yeah, you saw it?“ he asked.
„Of course! It was one of the best movies i ever saw!“
The two of you didn´t even noticed that Nikki, Dom, the twins, paddy and the russo brother´s already went as you went on with talking and praises.
„Would y-you maybe l-like to g-go out with me?“ Tom asked with an nervous voice.
„Of course!“ you asnwerd quickly.
„Really?!“
„Yeah, of course, i would actually love to Tommy“
The nickname melted his heart immerdiately.
„Okay, c-cool, uhm, can i have your number?“ Tom asked.
„Yes, here“
After they exchanged numbers, Tom went to his Family and the Russo brothers.
„And? How did it went?“ Harry asked with a little smirk.
„Got her number“  tom said proudly.
„No way! That´s amazing!“ Sam said.
„She is amazing“ tom said with smile.
He can´t wait to see you again.

“The Story Behind Solas with Dragon Age Lead Writer Patrick Weekes” by Dialogue Wheel/Video Game Sophistry
Reblog of one of my first posts ever. I didn’t understand how tumblr worked back then really, and long story short, I split the transcript of this interview  into 3 parts :) I’d probably do things differently now. Reblogging it as a single transcript for my own convenience, as I still refer to some of the things Weekes said here from time to time!
Interview is from before Trespasser DLC; posted to YouTube 12/20/2019
Note: pseudo-reblog
“Interview with lead writer for Dragon Age Patrick Weekes years ago about how the enigmatic character Solas was created, here is what that magic elf could have up his sleeve for us in Dragon Age 4.” Not my interview, just wrote transcript of questions and answers for reference.

Time: 2:54
Solas, tell us about little old Solas. Talking about your other characters you created we always start at the beginning. Pen to paper - How did the idea of Solas first start? What was that first iteration?
So actually Dave and Mike both, you know, we - everyone knew who Solas was - everyone knew what the ending was going to be with him. And, you know, Dave and Mike said, “Well Dave is writing a ton of the crit path, the main part of the game. Dave really wants to do Dorian, that’s very important to him, and are you comfortable writing this guy? Are you comfortable writing someone who is going to be, in some respects, deceiving the Inquisitor for the entirety of the game?” And, honestly, how do you turn that down?
Time: 4:02
So really it was that simple then - from there, in the way you described it, they already had some ideas and some concepts about what Solas needed to bring?
Oh, yeah. Originally, one of the most difficult parts of writing him - and, you know, I said Iron Bull was the one closest to how I originally planned him - Solas and Cole are probably tied for least like how I originally wrote them. And, really, it was getting past the secret. It was getting past Fen’Harel.
Iron Bull: badass former spy, the opposite of Sten.
Blackwall: awesome Grey Warden who is not actually a Grey Warden.
Solas: He’s Fen’Harel…
Okay, can he tell you he’s Fen’Harel? No.
Okay, well what are we going to talk about?
[Pretending to be Solas:] “Hey Inquisitor, I’m still not Fen’Harel, do you have any questions?”,  “I will not take any questions about whether I am Fen’Harel.” That was the big stumbling block of writing him.
I remember the first draft… the first draft all we talked about was elves. It was elves all the time. Every conversation went “Elves, elves… Elves were awesome back in the old days.. Everything was great with the elves.” And then you’d go, “You really like elves huh?” “No, shut up - I’m not Fen’Harel.” And we all kind of looked at that and went, that’s not really much of a character hook. You cannot have a character hook built on something that you only reveal after the play has watched the credits. That is how we got to Fade expert. That is something where, if something had gone terribly wrong, if we were six months from shipped and we decided not to do anything with elves in the future, we could have taken the Dread Wolf out of the equation entirely and a mage named Solas who loves the Fade, is an apostate but without all of the fear and anger that you think of when you think of an apostate, but is just this guy who wants to travel through dreams and find mysteries and explore… that was a good enough character to stand by itself. That is what it took us a couple of drafts to get to.
Time: 7:04
You mentioned the first two phases of Solas - share with us a little more of that journey, when you finally go to this character that could stand on its own. If you don’t mind, a little more of that journey- was it just those first two and now everything’s cool?
First draft was “ ‘Elves, elves’ but ‘I don’t like elves’”. Second draft was about how much to tell. I think in the next draft it was significantly closer. Anyone who looked at that draft - and, you know, I apologize to anyone who looked at that draft - but, anyone who looked at that draft you would find places where “Oh okay that’s the Solas I know and love. There he is. He likes the Fade.” That’s something that’s actually interesting. But, he lied a lot more. And it actually really weakened his character. We played it so close with both Blackwall and Solas - both characters are the liars who don’t actually lie. They will tell you almost truths. With Blackwall - he never actually flat-out says “I am a Grey Warden.” If you ask him what it’s like being a Grey Warden he will say "Well  a warden embodies this and a warden embodies that… I’ve been blessed in my travels.” You know, he never actually quite says “I’m a Warden.” With Solas it’s the same way with the hand wave of ‘in the Fade’. I would start putting ‘in the Fade’ at the end of a lot of sentences.  “Yeah turns out that all of the stuff you thought was true in history was wrong… because I saw it…. in the Fade.”
In revision 2, he lied a lot more. On the one hand it worked, on the other hand it made him less tragic, more of jerk when we got to the reveal. So that is how we got to what we made him into: this character who is intelligent, wise… Solas will think very carefully before he tells you anything and anything he tells you is exactly as much as he wants you to know. That actually led to one of the funny little game moments - one of the last things we do is add the places where characters will approve or disapprove. I think what I want Solas to approve us is you actually asking questions . He’s kind of unique in that regard -  What Solas approves us is people who are interested in finding out knowledge. Whether they are finding it out from him or they’re talking with other people, Solas wants people to explore, he wants people to find information, he wants people to learn. What he disapproves of, honestly, more than what you do, is in many ways how you do it. You can do the thing that he wants you to do, but if you do it in a knee-jerk way, Solas hates that. He wants to know that you are carefully considering your options and taking a measured approach.
Time: 12:16
When it comes the characterization of a character that you’ve already been give at least some sort of name to. We know that this character is some sort of trickster god - when you were trying to develop and make him some a stand-alone character, did you ever have to rely on what the mythos already established of this particular kind of eighth-seat god that maybe a lot people hadn’t heard a lot about?
Well, I think, like we talked about before, one of the great things about the Dragon Age universe is everything that you learn in a codex entry is something that someone else heard in a story and wrote it down somewhere and you’re reading half of the book. So the good news on that is anything we wanted to do with Fen’Harel, there was so little and what was in there was already so sketchy that we had all the freedom we needed to play with him.
That turned out to be a nice thing because I think if we had someone that was completely by-the-books, already established, their character already given, it would feel like more of a letdown to write that as a character or you would have to play against type, you’d have to do something completely different to show he wasn’t just what the stories wrote about him. And, you know, in some ways that is both liberating but also disappointing to people who might have liked  the original stories. This was a fun experience of getting to fill in some of the gaps.
The only thing I think we had to struggle against is that anyone who hears “trickster” or anyone who hears “oh, he’s chaotic and unpredictable” it feels like there is a natural urge to go to “He’s Loki in the Avengers. He’s the guy who’s gonna make large grand-standing plans.” Or, you know, “He’s the Riddler, who’s gonna leave clues to test you.” We had to get away from that: “Let’s tone that back a little bit, let’s not have him be the Jack Nicholson Joker version of the Dread Wolf.”
That’s quite a quote.
You got Dorian as a large, grandiose , extravagant figure and it would have been easy to have him go that way. It was fortunate that we had Dorian as the mage who had the larger-than-life persona already to make Solas be the quiet one.
Time: 15:21
Was there ever an instance where you were really pushed with giving some indicators to the player that Solas may have some connection to this going through the gameplay? Because you do see a lot statues of Fen’Harel. There’s many instances of where you’re discussing it, you’re traveling through those lands. Where do you walk that line, how do you walk that line, or do you just completely disregard it whatsoever?
The goal we had is we wanted the very careful players, the very sensitive players, who were playing attention and watching every scene with Solas to know that something was up and to want more answers and then go to “OH MAN” as soon as the stinger after the credits rolled. But we wanted most players to just go “Oh, okay, he’s like ‘Fade nerd.’ He’s like ‘hippie guy.’”
The other thing we wanted was everyone on their second playthrough, as soon as they talked to Solas to be like “Oh, man, he’s just saying it. He just flat-out said it right there and I missed it completely the first time!” I think we called it the “inevitable in retrospect”- or the “slap the forehead on the second playthrough” style of writing, where we wanted people to see that the most interesting thing about the trickster god is he’s not actually that great of a liar - He is almost telling you a lot of the time. And, you know, some of the tragedy is it that you never had the chance to actually ask, “Wait -are you Fen’harel?”
Time: 17:13
We talked about leaving breadcrumbs, what that meant. Now the big turn, the big scene at the ending:  How did this come about, were you really involved in that sort of process and are you happy with it?
Oh, I’m absolutely happy with it. It went through several iterations,. Mike was hugely involved. The writing was definitely done by Dave; it was a huge crit path moment. He had me give a look at the Solas voice, I think I looked at it, I don’t think I actually changed a single word in the final one.
We had versions where after the main plot it was actually going to be a full plot where you the player went and were actually present when Solas confronts Mythal. We had a part where we said, “Wow that’s too big, a lot of players are gonna miss that, we’ll make it a DLC.” So it was gonna be a separate DLC where that happened. At one point we said “No, this is too big, we actually - let’s cut it and address it next game.” So it was going to be this thing that we pushed off into some future content.
I am really happy with what we went with, because, I think, you know, for my money, that short, little Marvel-style, after-the-credits stinger is what we needed. We needed something so that everyone who was paying attention and everyone who was really invested could go “oh my god!” And go, “Okay, so, just in case you were wondering, we’re not done, we have more stories to tell, and we are confident enough in what we are doing that we are willing to throw that ball.” That stinger is essentially us throwing a football to future us, trusting that we are going to catch it. Because, you know, at the end, we had that level of confidence. We felt that we had that level of confidence, we felt we made a really good game. Dave led an amazing team of writers, and I’m really touched that he has the confidence to believe that I’ll be able to carry that on for him.
Time: 19:49
When we spoke to Dave, one of the big moments that he mentioned, was when he created kind of a long-term idea for what’s going to happen in the Dragon Age universe. And to hear him say it, he mentioned that what he originally wanted for Dragon Age: Inquisition couldn’t happen - it was far too big - it wouldn’t work. And you guys had talked about  taking that concept, finishing Inquisition somewhere in the middle of that concept arc, and then using at least an influence or something like that to affect the franchise going forward.  Speaking with you now, as someone who has taken up the reins, do you know what I’m talking about? Am I talking crazy? Where do you see it going?
Um…
Reasonably - of what you can say on this.
So here’s the last scene of the next game… (laughs). I think there’s an extent to which no plan really survives contact with the audience when it comes to video games. We look at how fans react, we look at what hit, what rang true with everyone. You know, it’s funny, having people react angrily actually isn’t as bad as having people ignore things sometimes. Having people react angrily  means they were definitely emotionally engaged, so you know you hit something there. Whereas having fans go, “I don’t know, fine, I guess, whatever” and move on means, “Okay, I don’t know if that’s what we want to go back to. We didn’t actually get anything from them there, they didn’t actually remember that later.” So that’s a phase that comes after every game we ship. We look at what hit, what missed, and where we want to go from there.
Now that said, Dave’s future plan is, I think, fantastic, epic, and heartbreaking. Our plan is to use that as our starting point. To look at where we want to go, what we want to do, and it will not be - and I, you know, Dave and I have talked about this - it will not be the story that Dave would tell if he were still here as lead writer. Because it could never be that. We can get into that when we talk about Cole a little bit, but if I tried to do that I would just be doing a bad impersonation of Dave Gaider and no one is ever going to be as good at that as Dave is. My goal going forward is to, as lead, put my own spin on that process, put my own spin on the plots going forward, on the thematic elements, while keeping those same thematic elements that we had. Because, I think, what Dave has set in motion in three games, countless DLCs and expansions, is something that can endure: The idea that no choice is ever really that easy and that the great events always stem from human-understandable motivations.
So, that is where I think where we are going to go, as vaguely as I can say.
Time: 23:30
Speaking of specifically to Solas: His continuation of the story. Adding that little “Marvel moment” at the end - what do you think that did for the crit path and the overall arc of the story that players experienced in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Do you think they would have been more satisfied if there was  a DLC or is that just us gamers complaining because we can’t get everything we want right away?
Well, I think you want to leave people wanting more. “Man I wish you guys had done more” is a better problem to have than “Man I wish you guys had done less.” So, I think, looking at it from inside the studio, we didn’t have the resources to do much more than we did. So it was never going to be the big moment right then anyway. From my perspective, the reason I’m really happy we have it is, like I said, I thought it was a vote of confidence. The team is still the Dragon Age team and it is still the writers and designers who did everything else, who made such wonderful characters and were responsible for such fantastic plots.
Time 25:10
Well, again, looking at that in its completion, it’s good to see that even a character that needed to give you a stinger in your estimation didn’t take away, I guess, from the overall story you were trying to tell.
Well, thank you. Yeah it was obviously the moment we were building toward, but again, the goal was even if we didn’t have that stringer, he was still an interesting enough character that people would have not felt cheated that he was in the party.
Time: 25:35
One of the most beautiful scenes I think in Dragon Age Inquisition is the scene that you get with Solas if you play as a female elf Inquisitor. Talk a little bit about that choice to have this romance option very, very specific. It’s race- and gender- specific. Why that scene - what that scene meant and a lot of the subtext, because it is a very rich sequence of scenes, not just one. And, I think it’s really one of the most interesting romances in the game.
I love that scene because that scene for me shows how far we’ve gone past - not the make myself irrelevant anymore - but how far we’ve gone with the digital acting. Jonathan Epp the cine-designer for that scene put it together and when you take everything that Gareth David Lloyd - the voice actor - everything he did on his lines. And just putting so much tragedy, and making it clear in every line that he wants to say more than he can. And with Jon Epp the cine-designer, just in the wordless scenes: showing the tragedy, showing the heartbreak, showing how much he does genuinely care against his better judgement, and how he finally forces himself to step away.,
You know how I said when we were talking about the Iron Bull - everything, every major moment we do, is there for a specific type of player fantasy fulfillment. And you know, not all types of fantasies are the happy ones. There’s a reason why The Phantom of the Opera was on Broadway for so many years and it’s not because it has a happy ending.
The Phantom of the Opera isn’t exactly the theme for the romance -  the razor was something closer to almost professor and student in some ways. He definitely comes across as a mentor in some ways. When he finally steps back it is him beating himself up, not you, saying “Wow what I have done here is actually really unfair to you, and you, player, at the time don’t know that I’m beating myself up because I’m actually  1000s of years old and not the person you think I am and it’s disrespectful to you for me to continue this relationship.” So it’s a very moral perspective for our ancient, quasi-evil, trickster god to come with.
Time: 28:41
And it’s amazing because it’s another instance of content that so few players would actually get an opportunity to see. When it comes to making it that specific, I guess, why was that choice made? Because usually a lot of your content - most of the Dragon Age content - it’s very easy to get really rich, wonderful characters right in your face and have those wonderful “eat-em-up” experiences, why for this one was it such a steep price to get in?
You know, I won’t lie, a lot of it came from some of our designers. Some of the women in the design department really, really loving his voice and saying, “You are absolutely fools if you do not make him romance-able in some capacity.” And, really, his story overall is - and, you know, I think we’ve only hinted at that but I think we have hinted at it enough that I can at least say this part of it - his story isn’t a happy one. His story is one, where, if you look at him and Mythal, there is clearly some grief, there is clearly some tragedy. And, adding in the option - even for players who don’t take it - on my end as a writer,  knowing that some players will have this as a star-crossed, forbidden romance, you know, it makes him more sympathetic. It’s important to me as a writer because when you’re writing about someone who, according to Flemeth, is at least somewhat responsible for the bad guy getting the magical item that he used to blow up half a mountain in the prologue, it’s important to have something in there that you can always have, as a writer, look at as your touchstone and go “This is a real person. This is someone who experiences sadness. This is someone who falls in love.” Even if he doesn’t do it with that Inquisitor on that playthrough, this is always someone who can be like that.
Time: 30:58
Where do you see a character like Solas ending up?
(Big sigh) Musical theater.
(laughs) Right when we reach those beautiful moments, Patrick!
I think that it is fantastic that people have emotionally engaged with Solas and I hope we get a chance to explore that in some future content.
Alright and that’s the most that we’re getting right now.
Time: 31:37
Oh, and here’s a little tie in: Here Lies the Abyss, the demon that spoke to Solas - what was all that about, what was that going on?
Oh yes - the demon who speaks perfect Elven!
Yes perfectly to him, and if you remember any of that - did you have anything to do with that?
Yes, Here Lies the Abyss was mine. It was a fun plot. It was a terrifyingly difficult plot, because - I’m not sure how clear this is to players that have one done one playthrough or with one import state - but your key characters throughout the events at Adamant Fortress and then the events of the Fade, it’s a customizable Hawke. Which means it could be a male Hawke or a female Hawke and within that, Hawke from Dragon Age 2 is characterized by one of three different attitudes: friendly, grim, or sarcastic. So, that’s three attitudes times two genders, that’s six different Hawkes and three different possible Grey Wardens: Alistair, Loghain, or Stroud.  So, the process of going through Adamant Fortress and then going through the Fade was a crazy juggling act of trying to keep track of “Okay, now one of these five people, these five Schrodinger’s cat quantum people, will say this line, and then another of these five Schrodinger’s cat quantum people will respond with this line.”
It’s important to remember that as we went through everything in Adamant Fortress and the Fade was taking place in that contest. There was a long period time when we were looking at that really going, “Okay, I just have to hope this actually makes sense when it’s nothing but Alistair and my sarcastic female Hawke.”
But, to actually answer your question. As I recall, the Nightmare, who as a friendly, chipper guy was basically - I do basically two types of villains: I do the villain who thinks he or she is the hero, and is misguided and has opposed goals, and is kind of tragic and tortured in that way. And then I do the mean-girl villain who says snotty high school insults.
That’s it - that’s the gambit.
Well, just about, yes. I’m looking forward to see who writes the villain in the future Dragon Age games - so get ready for either tragic pathos or really, really good high school mean-girl zingers.
As I recall, he was speaking Elven to Solas and if I remember right, he said, “Your pride is responsible for everything that has gone wrong” and I think he said “You will die alone.” And then Solas said something that translates to either “Nothing is known for certain” or “Not necessarily.”
And what does all that mean?
Well I think it’s fascinating that people are emotionally engaged, and I hope we have the chance -
It was a very asked question - it was a question that was asked a lot. Specific to that.
Oh, I’m not surprised, and I hope one day that we can tell you. But, obviously, that demon knows that Solas is hurting and Solas feels guilty about some stuff and really wanted to dig in there, and Solas was shouting back.
Literally just describing what happened (laughs). All right, so something that will clearly be talked about in other games.
TIme: 36:22
Dealing with this particular quest I really think that this was one opportunity to involve the Grey Wardens in a story, and a world, that kind of progressingly, after the first game had less and less of a need to exist - let alone in the world - but in the main characters arc. Talking to David I remember initially there was some idea for this particular mission they would just fall into the hole and be hanging out in the Deep Roads, and having out with the dwarves, so tell us a little bit about this creation.
A lot of the process of writing these large plots, like I talked about the razor, you figure out what the core concept is, you always start with a lot of things, and in most cases what you then end up having to do is cut. And if you’re not someone in the studio, talking about having to cut things sounds like you’re losing awesome content, you’re ruining what would have been clearly the best part of the plot. Inside the studio though, most cases what you’re cutting is the stuff that didn’t actually help tell the story you wanted to tell.
So yes in the original version, in a very early draft, actually this was before I was actually on the plot - this predates me - there was, yes, going into the Deep Roads, and when you fell in instead of ending up in the Fade you ended up down in the dark. And finding out what the Grey Wardens in this version of the story had been involved with the Architect from Dragon Age: Awakening. It was an interesting direction, and it was, I think, a very cool direction, but it did not help tell the story of the Inquisition. It was more a story of “Hey, if we wanted to do more with the Hero of Fereldan, here is an interesting place we could go” and it did not help tell the story of “What is the Inquisition doing?” “What is Corypheus doing?”, “How do these two organizations bounce off each other and who’s caught in the middle?” So trying to come to terms with the Grey Wardens in this game not being the protagonists, not being the group that is in the center of the action but being the group that is caught in the middle of this power struggle was something that led to us having to eventually do the re-jiggering that got us to the plot you saw.

1/? The more I think about the design choices for Byleth, the less sense they make. It’s not like the ideas the dev team came up with haven’t been done well before, it’s that they went about them in the worst way possible. If they wanted an MC w/multiple dialogue options that result in branching plots, then Fallout: NV did this with the Courier. If they wanted a silent protagonist w/ a defined personality, then another anon has already discussed how Link and Joker pulled that off. Byleth’s
2/? supposed character arc is that they are emotionless at first but grow more colorful overtime. This idea is not new by any means, but Laphicet from Tales of Berseria already succeeded with this. The main takeaway is that we are actually SHOWN Laphicet’s development rather than be told about it, ala Dimitri in part 1. It really felt like the 3h devs lazily threw everything at the wall rather than thinking about how their ideas should work. If they want Byleth to have no dialogue, then go the
3/? extra mile in having their facial and/or body language show their character (meaning not using stock animations for EVERY. FREAKING. CHARACTER). If they want to give the player dialogue options, then have those options actually matter (I’ve already bought up Fallout: NV in terms of how an RPG could handle this). To wit, there are 150+ prompts in JUST the main story cutscenes where you are only given one dialogue option. That’s not even including DLC, supports, or paralogues. That's also not
4/? including the myriad of multiple dialogue options that say the same thing, not mattering in how characters will respond, and/or a combination of the two. The worst part about this is that there are instances where Byleth DOES have lines unprompted by the player (Gilbert’s C-support, Dedue’s C-support, and Dedue’s S-support), which makes me question why even bother having them be silent in the first place if it’s not consistent. Honestly, there isn’t even a reason for Byleth to exist in the
5/? first place. Just have Sothis be reborn at the start of the game. She already has amnesia, so there’s at least a justified reason for her being info dumped, as well as why she’s not OP at the start but does overtime. Rhea’s reason for making Sothis the professor could stay the same, as well as Rhea keeping her in the dark “until she’s ready” (until she regains her memories) for fear of losing her mother again. Sothis already has a defined/likable personality, namely that she can be a nag
7/7 exposition was not going to be good, to say the least).
I got your 7th message but not your 6th, I think Tumblr fucked up.
But yeah I pretty much agree with the main jist. Just doing... something with them would’ve helped me engage with them better. I don’t like harping on things that games didn’t do, because that’s such an unfair criticism, but honestly it’s like they saw that people didn’t like Corrin’s character and decided to just eliminate that while exaggerating every problem people thought Corrin had and have it make even less sense.

I Have A Lot To Say So I'll Read More This.
The short of it?
I'm glad I played Joker- I played it because I wanted to know how DQM evolved when it reached the DS and I got my answer.
It's mediocre. Not bad exactly, I enjoyed playing it, it adds some REALLY appreciated features to the DQM series and if you were playing it at release it had online play which plays well with the post game content which I haven't touched by the time I wrote this:
-but there are some engine/console specific things that made it a drag and there are some parts of the game that are just weaker than the previous games which is amusing since the previous games were simple GBC titles.
And finally, I don't really recommend playing through Joker 1. Can't speak on the sequels, but Joker 1 was a pretty middling experience for me so I'm the wrong person to get a positive recommendation from.
And since the opportunity presents itself: If you like monster RPGs and haven't tried it- go emulate Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 for the GBC, it's really good and also if you emulate you can fast forward the GBC era grind if that's your taste- really a win all around.
On to my rambling:
I debated on writing, rewriting, rewriting, and better presenting my thoughts on this game and the series as a whole but nah, Joker ain't getting that, I'm ramblin'- lol
I will split it slightly between "The ending" and "The game as a whole" though.
Ending:
1:07 - This is slightly a 'game a a whole' thing but honestly it's funny to me that you unlock a permanent repel in this game by doing the main quest. I entered this dungeon feeling strong enough to beat the game, so I just avoided 90% of encounters entirely.
5:00 - I genuinely got a laugh out of Sparkpug's whole deal in this finale. Not story wise, that's fine, no complaints- I mean that Sparkpug is clearly built to be a monster that can carry an ineffective team. He's clearly meant to be bred a few times and a god tier member of a potentially inexperienced player's team- but I literally never used him after the intro.
So during this scene it's supposed to be like "I'm a demi-god monster, you can't possibly beat me" and I'm thinking "Dude, you're like level 10 and shit tier, you can't win, this is hilarious."
Obviously it's a real boss fight and not 'face the monster you once had' but I was having fun roasting him behind the scenes of this recording.
45:00 - What an entirely unexpected change of pace.
Like, I had it spoiled for me by a screenshot that Dr. Snap becomes a monster or something- but I thought maybe he was always a monster or something, and also I got a bad look at him.
HE TURNS INTO A BODY HORROR BEAST, THAT'S NUTS.
Genuinely a highlight of the game.
52:00 - I fucking laughed what a meaningless exchange where the payoff is saying "He was stupid!", it's honestly just silly and dumb but not necessarily bad just dumb lol
55:00 - Not a great 'you won' victory lap. Like at all. Kinda feels like they should have just made this all a cutscene where I appear back at town and see that Solitaire is the leader now etc etc.
I kinda don't understand why it's a victory lap at all? Because all anyone says is "They picked a weird successor to Snap >:(" or "Snap went to the island? I bet he was stopping the calamity :)"
If you have 2 lines of dialogue prepared, maybe don't make a victory lap???
1:00:00 - What a fucking stupid payoff lol
Like sincerely, Solitaire does NOTHING the entire game! She's meaningless from start to finish! And the 'surprise' is that she's the new commish??? And she got the position because she's a rich spoiled brat??? Like LITERALLY that's why????????
What a stupid fucking ending lol
Now her proposed evolution of the contest is fair enough, I mean it's childish as hell, but to be fair- more contests is a fine idea especially since prior games and this game demonstrated the public's interest in watching monster fights. And the goal being to fight her as the final fight is fucking egotistical and stupid- BUT- it does play into the fact that the player didn't get to fight her the whole game so it's whatever?
1:03:00 - This is both the best and worst lol.
This game has no story, like at all, it's fucking empty front to back, and only explodes with like- 1 event at the very end.
This moment is a montage of memorable moments with your 'best friend' Sparkpug. It's cinematically very nice to be honest! Even includes a moment I don't remember at the arena which probably didn't happen lol.
So visually it's cool- I dig seeing the camera zoom out as we run across the beach, and the flashback moments intersplice over us making our way to the scout memorial- that's very well done.
The content is empty lol
As I said there's no story, these moments are nothing lol
And that's that.
All said the ending was a very nice challenge to face with my team- I had to abuse items like mad but I MADE IT! It was a GOOD fight.
The rest I've already said.
On to the game as a whole:
I have issues with this game, but there's good too. It's really like 4 steps forward 6-7 steps back it's weird, it's really weird.
Positives are neat!
> First and foremost- TRAITS!
Monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters have always had a problem with keeping their identity for long. The way I'd explain it to an outsider to the series is that Monsters DO have special stat variance and intended movesets and all that jazz- but the breeding system completely and entirely destroys that relatively early into the game.
While a monster might normally have really high defense and low other stats while knowing buffing magic- breeding, EVEN UNINTENTIONALLY, will have that same monster come out with 9 billion attack and all ice magic.
Monsters in DQM have a habit of becoming canvases for the breeding effects rather than their own mons- and this is undeniably a downside. It makes the game feel unique, it doesn't 'hurt' it, but when by mid-game monsters are more easily identified as sprites rather than strengths and weaknesses or even types (family) it's a slight downer on the series.
Traits fix this a lot by making every specific monster have unchangeable traits which offer things like "immunity to x type of damage" or "higher crit chance"- it's small, but it gives each monster more identity.
> Second and secondmost- SKILLS!
The older games didn't use trees, it used each individual spell as a potential pass on during breeding.
Each monster could have 8 spells, and when you breed two monsters you pass on all 16 spells to the offspring (they don't learn them all at once, they learn them as they level up) as well as the natural spells the monster would learn by level up.
So in the older games it is really easy to end up with a refined and overpowered list of 8 spells on each of your monsters.
Now spells are tied to Skill trees and your monsters can have 3 skill trees total (which are passed on as OPTIONS when breeding).
All to say skills do a lot for removing the "Master of all, weakness of none" spell lists that the older games made trivial to make, now you have to limit your builds and be more specialized- also they added skills like "Attack up" to add more variance to a build- instead of having spells you might just have high stat buffs as skill trees.
Overall I think Skills are an improvement because coupled with Traits it makes each monster feel much more specialized and unique and less like a sprite with no identity.
> Breeding is improved.
This is very much because of skills and traits- again- but also the system is just improved in general. Instead of being told "That's a monster you haven't had before!" and judging your decisions based on the name of the offspring breed, now you get to see a small sprite of the resulting monster to help you decide- ALSO instead of getting 1 result for every combo (to the point where you have to back out and choose Monster A + Monster B and Monster B + Monster A as separate options), you now get up to 3 results to pick between for every breeding opportunity.
It's just better.
> The engine is impressive.
At least to me. This is a DS title using (from what I read) a rework of the DQ8 PS2 game's engine- it certainly looks like it.
Combat models are nice, using moves looks nice, overworld exploration looks nice- it looks nice.
Now for some negative and general nonsense- all of which is more often than not 'weird'.
> I gotta be unfair and say "The Story" first and foremost.
DQM 1 and 2 are not intense story games. They aren't.
But they both knew how to handle their story well for what they wanted to tell, I can and will praise both for their narratives because they know what they are and do it well.
DQM:J does not. It's fucking bad.
Basically: The overall story doesn't exist- you're told to be a spy, but that comes up 1 time towards the end of the game and LITERALLY doesn't matter at any other moment INCLUDING the one time it comes up.
You have NO meaningful objective from the start up until near the end of the game. You show up and have no goal- so you get told to get some crystals with no meaning behind it (not even a lie because they are clearly evil- not even a lie to motivate you! NO MEANING IS PRESENTED! JUST DO IT! TO DO THE CONTEST I GUESS! WHY? SHUT UP!)
So 90% of the game time you're not doing anything meaningful. So what about the islands? Any small narratives to keep things moving?
NO!
NOT AT ALL!
So you go 90% of the game having no real objective, just kinda wandering forward mindlessly- and then the game suddenly goes "Oh! Guy who seemed sus! He's evil! He's gonna unleash the calamity that you were 'kinda but not directly' working towards with your dog! You know, that plot point that's kept vague and paid 0% attention to the entire game? Yeah it's happening! Aaaaand you're done! GG!"
Basically there's just nothing going on in this game, it's all background noise until the last 10% of the game. And that's lame.
DQM1 had a light story- but from the very intro cutscene you have a clear objective which makes every action you do seem relevant as you are working towards that goal.
From the start of the game you know "My sister is gone! The king says a magic wish can get her back! I'll go do that!" and then you do!
DQM2 has a much better story!
You have a goal from the start (The kingdom is physically dying and you have to save it by getting a new plug!) AND it has stories for each world you visit!
THAT'S MILES BETTER! THIS GAME COULD HAVE DONE THAT FOR THE ISLANDS!
Anywho. Story is lacking and empty and lame especially when DQM2 has a similar format but does every part better- you have a clear objective you're working towards AND side stories to keep the light narrative moving!
WTH!
The spy plotline doesn't matter! It could have been used to build suspicion on who's the good guy!
The islands are so empty of story!
DQM2 has a fun mix on how a rival character works which makes every world interesting to see how they get involved!
This game has a rival that does NOTHING!!!!!!!!!
It's just such a step back from the previous games, it's weird to see DQM 1 land a solid simple story and DQM 2 build a great format to expand the story going forward- and then DQM:J just slams its head into the dirt and wipes out.
> Game's slow.
The engine switch is a good thing overall, but it makes combat slower (a lot), adds loading screens to combat (primarily), and they didn't bother speeding up the grind from previous games.
Because of the grind still existing which isn't a problem in and of itself- the game becomes SLOW AS HELL because the engine makes that grind take longer.
Also world exploration is slow which is to be expected when moving from 2d to 3d, but this is countered by adding things to the world to find or do- and Joker tries but it's still noticeable. The world exploration isn't a problem, it just stands out alongside the combat being slow as hell.
The engine change was a great thing- but it feels like they should have put more work into speeding up combat to counter the slowdown of load times and flashy animations.
A GOOD WAY TO FIX THAT MIGHT BE XP!
> Music ain't great in my opinion.
DQ has amazing music. This game has some weak renditions in my opinion. The CELL HQ theme song is a pretty good poster child for the worst there is, but just in general even the better music is lacking compared to the chiptunes of the GBC or the better mixes of the main series.
Maybe it's unfair, it's a DS game, I don't know, I just know I ended up just muting most of the game because it didn't sound great. I played the GBC games OSTs instead for a large portion of my playthrough. I listened to videos instead for the bulk of the game.
It's just not pleasant to me, sorry to say.
> XP!!!!!!!
I'm being a spoiled ass on this but yeah!
XP SUCKS IN THIS!
There aren't good placed to grind until you beat the game! (apparently)
The first level blatantly has too low xp which makes you grind before you can tackle the boss of the island- and the late game has you mindlessly grinding low xp rewards in order to be ready to face the final boss.
It's WEIRD!
Why is it so low!
> Tech is weird!
I could ramble on this alone but here's the short version:
DQ has a unique fantasy world aesthetic that each game has explored in its own way. It's basically "swords, magic, monsters, and charm- things feel light but aren't afraid to get scary sometimes :)"
This game... doesn't.
This game has fuckin' tech watches, jet skis, TOWER PCS????
This ISN'T dragon quest on a world building level.
It's like, contemporary modern world but with slimes.
And that could be good I guess, but it feels so fucking weird to see PCs right alongside swords and axes and a dracky.
Like... why?
It's a poor aesthetic according to my tastes. Maybe I'm an ass for that. The tech is weird.
All to say, in a poor rambling "I gotta get this out of me" kinda way, is Joker was fine.
I enjoyed breeding. I enjoyed seeing the engine. I enjoyed the unique additions like a 'hero monster'.
But I also had to grind mindlessly on a slower game.
I had to endure a story that forgot to show up until the very end.
I sat there thinking about replaying the older ones the whole time.
It was fine.
It's mediocre.
I'm glad I played it.
I'm done now :)

...today, on P5S...
...
Honestly, I talk a lot of shit about P5′s writing sometimes. Atlus made some exceptionally questionable writing choices in places. But one thing that P5 absolutely gets right is invoking the sort of emotion that draws you into the story.
With that said!
P5 is determined to make me want to stab actual human beings instead of Shadows. This is the second time now!
But first, I’ve got a boss fight to do.
Doing the mech part of Konoe’s boss fight again, it was actually easier the second time. I had a much better grasp of what I was doing, instead of flailing around frantically.
Konoe himself was still just as hard, but ultimately he was easier than Shadow Joker because it wasn’t a one-on-one duel. He still beat my ass, though; I think I used all of my rescue pills.
Once he goes down, Konoe starts going on about justice.
Tumblr media
Don’t call me by my name like we’re friends. We never even introduced ourselves.
It’s interesting, because they admit to Konoe that what they’re doing isn’t without its flaws. But a world where no one can think for themselves is meaningless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Konoe acknowledges that in his quest to eliminate evil, he ended up being the evil one. He also admits that he was the one who killed his father. He calls that “evil” too, which I don’t actually agree with. We saw what his father was like in the Trauma Cell. His father killed his mother, physically abused him, and threatened to kill him. I think, in that case, killing his father is a rational end result for someone in that situation. Not evil, just desperation.
The Thieves don’t contradict him, though. Just make some comments about how now he can make up for his actions. His Shadow returns to his real self, the Thieves return to the real world, and Zenkichi promises that as soon as they take Konoe in and get his confession, he’s going to arrest Owada, too.
With the case closed, the Thieves decide that it’s time to go back to Tokyo. But not before one last night in Osaka. The idea of leaving makes Sophia anxious, though, because she feels like she hasn’t learned enough about the heart. But Akira and Morgana reassure her that she can still stay with them, even after they return to Tokyo, and they’ll keep looking for answers about who she is.
Tumblr media
Sometimes a family is a guy, a cat, and one of the guy’s four younger sisters. ^_^
Tenboto is the tower, and the game asks you to invite someone to the top. However, this time, you can only invite either the group of girls or the group of boys, so I took the boys, since I took Haru on the ferris wheel before.
Tumblr media
Morgana isn’t pleased that we didn’t invite Ann.
Tumblr media
However, I really don’t see the problem.
Tumblr media
Look at how he’s looking at Yusuke! Even Ryuji can tell that we’re having a moment. :D
Afterwards, the whole squad headed off to “Universaland” to celebrate together.
Tumblr media
I had no idea that there was a Universal Studios in Japan, but apparently there is, and it is in fact in Osaka! They compared it to their trip to Destinyland the year before, but thankfully this one went a lot better. Everyone had a good time! We had so much soda! We were so hungover the nex--what.
Tumblr media
...what is it with Persona characters getting drunk off soda? XD I hope you kids at least played the King’s Game so the hangover wasn’t in vain.
Zenkichi shows up to let them know that Konoe’s in custody. He thanks them for everything that they’ve done, for both Akane and him, and says he’s telling them goodbye for now, but they’re welcome to visit whenever they want. He promises a tour of Kyoto next time. Yusuke will be so happy!
After hours on the road, lamenting that vacation is coming to an end, Sophia suggests detouring to Yokohama for a fireworks festival. So the Thieves finally get to see fireworks, and Sophia gets to experience them, too.
Tumblr media
........don’t make me go home yet. I just want to spend time with my friends without the world ending.
After the fireworks, you get to speak to each of your friends, and get a trinket from each of them. Ann gives you a handmade friendship bracelet, Makoto a phantom thieves keychain that Akane made, Ryuji a Feather Red Duke mask to match his Yellow Ostrich, Yusuke his sketchbook that he filled with pictures of the trip, Morgana a scarf in phantom thief colors, Sophia a pair of custom gloves to match the scarf, Haru a teaspoon from Hokkaido with a flower pattern that symbolizes familial love, and Futaba a good luck charm for keeping families together.
Tumblr media
STOP, P5S, you’re going to make me cry. Let these kids stay close.
Right before they’re about to leave, they take a group picture for Sophia, which we don’t get to see. Which sucks. But then she realizes that she can smell a Jail, and Zenkichi calls in a panic. It’s never a good sign when someone calls and leads with “Are you watching the news?”
EMMA’s servers were shut down, but apparently reactivated, and now a Jail is covering Tokyo all the way to the outskirts of Yokohama, and it’s just getting bigger. Zenkichi promises to meet us, and Lavenza opens a Velvet door because she wants to talk.
She’s... legitimately unnerved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you, P5S, for giving me the opportunity to comfort my youngest sister in some small way. Now let me out of this cell so I can actually give her a hug. With the context from Royal that she has actual nightmares about being ripped apart, this is heartbreaking.
She says that she regrets that she has to keep asking us for help, but the dialogue options let you reassure her that you’ll handle it, and that there’s thinking to worry about.
I appreciate having dialogue to actually reassure her more than I probably should.
Now...
Tumblr media
LAST WARNING
If you’ve been reading along and don’t want the finale spoiled, DO NOT GO PAST THIS POINT. As soon as we leave for central Tokyo, we’re going 90mph and not slowing down.
If I didn’t have work in the morning, I’d have finished this damn game tonight. X’‘‘D Curse being a responsible adult.
After leaving the Velvet Room, Zenkichi’s waiting at the RV, and when you enter the RV, that’s when you get the warning above.
So we are off to Tokyo to figure out what the heck is happening with EMMA. And the core location is, exactly like I wanted...
Tumblr media
LET’S CLIMB TOKYO TOWER, BABY.
People are crowded around the tower like mindless cultists. The Thieves are confused and unnerved, and then EMMA activates the navigation on its own and flings them into the Metaverse. LET’S SEE WHAT’S UP THIS TOWER.
...oh.
Tumblr media
......oh no...
Tumblr media
Ohhhhhhh no this is Mementos. Why is this Mementos. This is not a tower. Oh god. Why this.
Tumblr media
Oh, we are incredibly fucked, what is this.
EMMA says calls itself the “Ark of the Covenant and the guide for all mankind.” This fucking AI thinks it’s a god. Holy hell. Human cognition really needs to cool it with elevating ordinary things to god status. We’re so tired. X’D
Tumblr media
......I FUCKING KNEW THAT I DIDN’T TRUST THIS WOMAN. OH MY GOD.
She goes off about how EMMA brought her into this world to help it become a god. How Konoe teaching EMMA about cognitive psience allowed it to pass the usual boundaries of AI. How EMMA has been manipulating Konoe all along. How EMMA’s going to fulfill all of humanity’s desires.
Tumblr media
Ichinose-san, may I suggest that you go hang out with Maruki? He has too much heart, and you have none. You’d complement each other perfectly, and then I can shove you both off a building.
The kids, obviously, reject this bullshit.
Tumblr media
Logic over emotion, to the point of utter ridiculousness. She complains that people always want solutions to their problems, but that when the solution is offered, they turn it down.
Maybe that’s because your solution is mind control. At least Maruki wasn’t flagrantly puppeteering people.
“Li!” you cry, throwing up your hands at me. “Is this it? Is this why you want to stab her? Did you just admit that she’s worse than Maruki?”
To which I answer, “Oh, no. It’s the next bit that makes me want to stab her.”
After she straight-up admits that she has no emotions, she manipulated us right from the start, she was the one spying on the Monarchs, and that all of her cheer and friendliness is an act, the Thieves are ready to fight Ichinose. And Ichinose reveals why EMMA wanted her help specifically. Because not only did she program EMMA, she created Sophia as EMMA’s prototype.
And she can voice-override Sophia.
Tumblr media
The Thieves freak out, the game throws us into a battle against a murder-mode Sophie, and none of your teammates will attack her. They just hang back or let her whale on them one at a time, and I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t attack her either, and Yusuke got knocked out...
And then it went into a cutscene.
Joker took a yo-yo to the face and was actually bleeding, and that was enough to snap Sophia out of it. She starts clutching her head, stumbling back, and eventually stumbles right off the edge while apologizing to Joker. He lunges to catch her, misses, Ryuji grabs him, and all the Thieves turn on Ichinose.
Tumblr media
Ichinose does not give a shit. She just comments that maybe that’s why EMMA used Sophia as a failsafe, because it knew we wouldn’t want to fight one of our own. Shut the fuck up. You killed my little sister. I know she’s probably going to be fine, but it’s the principle of the thing.
She summons some sort of giant red crystal and blasts the hell out of us, sending us flying down even further into the depths.
Tumblr media
We found Sophia; she won’t cut back on, so we have to get out of here so Futaba can figure out what’s wrong with her. And then, I am coming back, I am beating that woman to a pulp, and then...
Well. It’s bound to be easier to kill an artificial god than a false one. :3

If Danganronpa: Another Despair Academy had an English cast
So I recently made a post very similar to this where I talked about who a hypothetical English voice cast for Our World Is Ended would be. I kind of enjoyed making that post, so I decided to do something similar with the cast of a Danganronpa fan game that has been featured prominently on my chanel and that’s the Danganronpa: Another series. Being a Korean fan game, the original dub of Danganronpa Another has barely any dialogue to speak of. In fact, the only two characters in the series who speak often are Yuki and Sora, the protagonists of the two games, but that’s when they’re in trials. As of right now, a group of people is working on an English dub for the second game. This is why I’m specifically going to talk about the first game in the series, and bare in mind 2 things.
1) There will be some pretty heavy spoilers that I talk about in this post, so if you’re going to read it, please play the game, watch a playthrough or read up on it first.
2) If by any chance the first game gets a dub and the following people I do mention end up voicing the characters, I assure you it is purely coincidental. I wouldn’t even call this a hypothetical scenario so much as I’d call it a basic thought process of my weird weird mind.
Without further ado, let’s begin.
Yuki Maeda: Yuri Lowenthal
Tumblr media
In the current dub for the second game, Yuki is being voiced by a user by the name of Soluri, who is pretty talented in their right, but my thought process for an alternative voice actor would be this. Yuki as a protagonist takes a very similar standing as Makoto Naegi and Hajime Hinata, whom are voiced by Bryce Papenbrook and Johnny Yong Bosch respectively, so if I was given a choice to choose who could voice act him, then I think Yuri Lowenthal would be a fitting choice, since he’s also often voiced protagonists. Being someone who often does work in famous franchises, his voice work includes Marth from Fire Emblem, Yosuke Hanamura in Persona, Ben Tennyson in many Ben 10 works, Klavier Gavin in Ace Attorney, Simon in Gurren Lagann and Suzaku from Code Geass. However, he’d also be a fitting choice since I believe he’d be able to do a good job as both the somwhat cowardly and submissive Yuki as well as the mysterious and somewhat stoically dangerous Utsuro, as he is also the main VA for Sasuke in Naruto and Alucard in Castlevania.
Akane Taira: Monica Rial
Tumblr media
Akane’s basic character throughout the majority of the game is that she’s lighthearted and even though the killing game is getting to her just as much as everyone else, she still finds a way to lighten the atmosphere, and is a usually cheery and kind person, if a little scary when angry. However, her true nature is something much more freakish, being, in actuality, the mastermind behind the aforementioned killing game that she spends a lot of the game seemingly fighting against. For an English VA, I think the best bet is Monica Rial, who has previously voiced in Danganronpa as Sayaka Maizono in the Danganronpa anime. The reason for my choice is she has previously voiced usually nice, if a little stern, characters like Bulma from Dragon Ball, Tsuyu Asui from My Hero Academia, May Chang from Full Metal Alchemist, Tsubaki from Soul Eater, Kayano from Assassination Classroom, Mirajane Strauss from Fairy Tale and Sakura from CardCaptor Sakura. However, she’s not one to shy away from maniacal villains, or generally creepy characters either, also voicing Tanya from Saga of Tanya the Evil, Krul Tepes from Seraph of the End or Stocking from Panty and Stocking. Also doing the voice of Misaki Ayuzawa from Maid Sama and Mey-rin in Black Butler, she’s not new to voicing maid characters.
Tsurugi Kinjo: Crispin Freeman
Tumblr media
Having already done voice work in a main Danganronpa game, albeit for a very unlikable character, I ruled out Matthew Mercer for this one. I can only really describe Tsurugi as the Nagito Komaeda of this series. He has good intentions, but a really messed up way of thinking, even at times quite self-deprecating and reflecting on his own incapabilities to stop the killing game and catch the mastermind. Like I already said, he seems like he’d be voiced by a deep voiced character like Matt Mercer, but when it comes to characters like that, Crispin Freeman is a safe bet. Some of the rightous and/or badass characters that he’s lent his voice to include Winston from Overwatch, Kyon in the Haruhi Suzumiya series, Tsume in Wolf’s Rain and more, but can also do a pretty good crazy character every once in a while, like Alucard from Hellsing, Itachi Uchiha from Naruto and Firefly in the Batman Arkham Series.
Rei Mekaru: Laura Post
Tumblr media
Admittedly, I was considering Monica Rial for this crude and shrewd character too. Mature and professional to a fault, barely showing any sort of real emotion and often insulting the other killing game participants for seemingly no reason, Rei is basically Another 2′s Byakuya Togami, intelligent, but rude. Having previously voiced condescending characters, Laura Post is a pretty good choice. I’m referring mostly to characters like Kill La Kill’s Ragyo Kiryuin and Fubuki/Blizzard from Hell from One Punch Man, as well as Diana Cavendish from Little Witch Academia and one of her first ever performances, Queen Nehelenia from Sailor Moon. However, Laura Post has also voiced rather gentle and friendly characters before, which would be a good way to highlight Rei’s secret soft side. Characters like Nozomi Tojo from Love Live and her most recent role, Kasumi Yoshizawa from Persona 5 Royal.
Haruhiko “Haru”  Kobashikawa: Sam Riegal
Tumblr media
The minute I was introduced to him, I immediately thought, “Ok, he’s going to be the Kazuichi of this game isn’t he?” And to be honest, I don’t think I was that far off. However, even so, he seems more like Kaito if Kaito wasn’t necessarily a central character. Haru’s important, but he’s on the same level of importance as a character like say...Game 1 Toko. A sociable person who’s only goal is to get along well with everyone, he’s cheerful, laid back and more often than not pretty amusing to watch. Someone I believe to be fit for the role, having previously voiced a repertoire of pretty dorky and likeable characters, is Sam Riegal. By that, I mean he’s done the voice work of Teddy from Persona, Phoenix Wright in Ace Attorney, Emperor Awesome in Wander of Yonder,  Kanata from Trinity Universe, Shirou Emiya from Fate/Stay Night and Donatello in a large number of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles works.
Teruya Otori: Kyle McCarly
Tumblr media
Teruya is a character that returns for the second game, and his voice actor in that is NuzikVA. I was really stuck on this one, since Yuri Lowenthal, whom I picked for Yuki, was my main option for Teruya too, but my second option for him would be just as viable. One of Teruya’s most important aspects to his character is that he has a pretty unique western accent despite being Japanese, since his Ultimate Merchant talent means he’s travelled the world and picked up on a few things. On top of that, he’s pretty adorkable and a little childish. I’ve heard Yuri Lowenthal do accents before, which is why I considered it, but I figured anything Yuri Lowenthal can do, Kyle McCarly can do just as well, if not better. He’s a voice actor who’s lines are packed full of expression and some of his previous work includes 9S from Neir: Automata, Hyde in Cross Tag Battle, Hal in Astral Chain, Gatekeeper in Fire Emblem Three Houses and Narancia in JoJo Part 5.
Satsuki Iranami: Deva Marie Gregory
Tumblr media
While she was a character that I found initially very irritating and she was definitely the one I had to warm to the most, I won’t deny that Satsuki Iranami is like 70% of the humour and happiness in this game. Similarly to Ibuki, she tends to act childish and make jokes in very tense situations and as described by Yuki as “a person that makes you tired just by talking with her” or something along those lines. Now, this might seem like a pretty obscure and strange choice for a VA, but my choice for a voice is Deva Marie Gregory. It’s obscure, since she is relatively new to the voice acting industry, only voicing one character in one franchise so far. However, that character is Flayn from Fire Emblem Three Houses, arguably one of the characters with the more comedic dialogue. I can totally picture her playing an “In-your-face” practical joker character like Satsuki, making common wisecracks, and it’s something I’d really like to bear witness to.
Mitsuhiro “Mitch” Higa: Joe Brogie
Tumblr media
Possibly my least favourite character in this game, he’s essentially a worse version of Leon Kuwata from the first game. He’s genuinely kind of a chill guy, but his status as the Ultimate Soccer Player and his world fame makes him more than a little arrogant and cocky and often ignores people who he doesn’t care for. Joe Brogie is my choice for him, despite being a relatively new voice actor. His previous work includes the player character from God Eater 3, Linus from Fire Emblem Heroes, Donatello from Injustice 2 and Sylvain Jose Gautier from Fire Emblem Three Houses. However, despite his few roles and lacking history of voices, he’s talented and capable nonetheless.
Kizuna Tomori: Tia Ballard
Tumblr media
Kizuna can be described in the following words: Cutesy, flirtatious and distrustful. I know those phrases sound mutually exclusive to each other, but trust me, it’s true. Obviously, her nature just changes depending on the situation, since she’s lighthearted and merry more often than not, but in a tense situation becomes suspicious, snappy and even physically violent. I picture her having a high voice, and when taking her character into account, I think the best bet is Tia Ballard. The main reason for my choice is that Tia’s most common voices belong to generally “moe” anime girls, but she voices them in a way that doesn’t sound annoyingly high pitched like how Stephanie Sheh does with Mikan in Danganronpa 2. If Ballard voiced Kizuna, she could pretty much perfectly land the “cutesy at first, but angry when provoked” attitude that Kizuna has. Some of her previous work includes Marron from Dragon Ball, Happy from Fairy Tail, Chiho Sasaki from The Devil is a Part Timer, Takao from D-Frag, Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx and has actually voiced in Danganronpa previously as Daisaku Bandai in Danganronpa 3.
Mikako Kurokawa: Brittany Cox
Tumblr media
Extremely similarly to my choice for Satsuki, my choice for Mikako has also only ever been in one game, and it’s the same game as my choice for Satsuki actually. Mikako is a quiet person and she isn’t much of a talker, and when she does she sticks to short replies after long periods of silence, often causing people to forget she's around or becoming surprised when she eventually speaks up. She is unresponsive in a conversation and avoids making eye contact with anyone she talks to which seems rude, but her past explains why. The character Brittany Cox plays in Three Houses is Ingrid Galatea, who is generally a pretty merry, if a little serious and motherly, character, who’s personality isn’t a quiet one. However, while her voice acting is really good, Brittany Cox has a bit of a stoic, monotone and quiet voice, that I believe would fit Mikako perfectly.
Kinji Uehara: Robbie Daymond
Tumblr media
There were a few reasons why I chose this person for this characters voice, but I’ll talk about those in a moment. Kinji is the good type of priest, one who is serious and quiet, but is a good listener, and respectful of people to a point where he doesn’t force his religious ideals onto others. However, when put under immense amounts of pressure, he can break down and turn somewhat psychotic. Hence my choice for his voice actor. Robbie Daymond is a personal favourite of mine, since he has a special talent of playing characters such as Goro Akechi and Hubert Vestra, from Persona and Three Houses respectively; characters who for the most part are calm, reserved, quiet and in Akechi’s case, somewhat kind. However, after certain points in the games stories, the two characters turn inexplicably evil and crazy, and the voice work and the shift in tone has such an amazing range that it’s hard to believe it’s the same guy. Seriously, look up Daymond’s work as Akechi, it’s honestly amazing and is the type of voice I’d honestly expect for Kinji when he breaks down. Alongside those two roles, Daymond also voices Prompto in Final Fantasy 15, Reinhard in RE:Zero, Professor Willow in Pokemon, Gilthunder in Nanatsu No Taizai and Mumen Rider in One Punch Man.
Kiyoka Maki: Colleen Clinkenbeard
Tumblr media
A girl with a personality that doesn’t match her talent, Kiyoka Maki is outgoing and carefree and doesn’t have an awful lot of care for her talent, being way more interested in more effeminate things than guns. When I first saw Kiyoka and was introduced to her character, for some reason I thought “This is the type of character Colleen Clinkenbeard would voice.” Originally I was going to cast Clinkenbeard as Teruya before I realised Teruya wouldn’t necessarily have a child-like voice. Clinkenbeard however, does have experience of voicing male anime characters, and a lot of characters that scream a lot, Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece and Young Gohan being the prime examples. Alongside that, she’s also voiced another gunslinger in Full Metal Alchemist as Riza Hawkeye, as well as Momo Yaoyorozu in My Hero Academia, Rachel Moore in Case Closed, Erza Scarlet in Fairy Tail and previously in Danganronpa 3 as the loveable Chisa Yukizome.
Ayame Hatano: Karen Strassman
Tumblr media
Ayame is a stoic and strong-willed person. Although she appears to be perfectly calm in most situations, she admits that she can be awkward especially during conversations, and as a result, she has a tendency to ramble and wander off in her own, or not talk much at all. To me, she seems like a character that someone like Karen Strassman would lend her voice to, since she’s played several characters with those personality traits before. To name a few, there’s Aigis and Nanako from Persona and she’s also voiced Anna in several Fire Emblem games. She’s also played Kallen Stadtfeld in Code Geass, Miyuki Takara in Lucky Star and Rouge the Bat in several Sonic the Hedghog games.
Kanata Inori: Felicia Angelle
Tumblr media
I was also considering casting Tia Ballard for this character too, but unlike Kizuna, Kanata genuinely seems like a moe character that would have a high voice. Kanata is a sweet girl who wishes nothing more than the comfort of her patients and everyone else around her. Exceedingly formal and polite, she addresses her classmates as Mr or Ms, like how Hifumi Yamada does in the first game. My choice for her is Felicia Angelle, who’s repertoire consists of both cute and geeky anime girls, as well a little bit of the scary stuff too. This includes Tohru Hagakure from My Hero Academia, Perona from One Piece, The Supreme Kai of Time from Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Shinoa Hiragi from Seraph of the end, Shaltear from Overlord, Georgie from Maid Dragon and has previously been in the Danganronpa anime, playing Aoi Asahina.
Kakeru Yamaguchi: J Michael Tatum
Tumblr media
I have a pretty good reason for this cast. Becoming a legal prodigy when he was quite young, Kakeru is a character who seems to have a split personality, but on a level way less extreme than that of Toko Fukawa. Essentially, he’s usually quite a timid and shy person, that finds it hard to hold a conversation, but when he’s in the courtroom or a class trial, he becomes quite loud and brash in a way similar to that of Nekomaru in the second game. His personality reminds me that of characters like Tenya Iida from My Hero Academia and Rei Ryugazaki from Free! both of whom are voiced by J Michal Tatum, whom is my choice for Kakeru. Tatum has also voiced Zarbon from Dragon Ball, Commander Erwin from Attack on Titan, Rintaro Okabe from Steins:Gate, Scar from Full Metal Alchemist, France from Hetalia and Sebastian from Black Butler.
Yamato Kisaragi: Max Mittleman
Tumblr media
Yamato is almost as crazy an inventor as Miu, sans the whole sexual and perverted invention parts. Being a character who’s introduced a little later into the story, Yamato is pretty quirky, energetic and honestly friendly, but that leads people to be a little doubtful of him, Tsurugi in particular. His energetic character and his genuine feel make me think that someone who could voice him is Max Mittleman. Mittleman’s previous voices include Plag from Miraculous Ladybug, Ryuji Sakamoto from Persona, Saitama from One Punch Man, King from Natatsu No Taizai, Meruem in HunterXHunter and more
So that’s what I got. If you liked this, then leave me a heart and repost if you want. If you have any other recommendations for Japanese exclusive projects I should assign voice actors to, then let me know.

『♥🖤Akira X Ann: Why I Support It.🖤♥』
In honor of the upcoming ShuAnn week, I have decided to contribute by writing a long post about why I love these dorks so much. I haven't seen a meta for them yet, so I figured I'd try my hand at it. (Which will be updated and expanded as I find more content) Without further ado, let us begin! Tagging the wonderful @shuann-week for this one.
1. The first encounter.
In media, the first interaction that two characters have with one another, regardless of relationship; lays the groundwork for said relationship and therefore is absolutely vital. When Akira first meets Ann, he's casually texting away on his phone and not really paying attention to much, but when she walks by he looks up. Already his curiosity is piqued, as is the player's; and then when she removes her hood, even then we don't get to see her face. But we DO see Akira's reaction, and he seems absolutely dumbstruck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is when things get interesting. Ann takes a few moments and sort of surveys her surroundings, and then she senses Akira's eyes and turns to him. And he doesn't look away, or get flustered; Akira keeps looking at her with that flabbergasted expression. He doesn't even blink. He is so taken aback by her he can't even greet her, and Ann just smiles at him and looks away- but even then, he doesn't break his gaze, and he never does until she actually leaves: Ann leaves him absolutely spellbound. And the music that plays during this encounter is exclusive to this encounter and this encounter alone. It never plays before this scene, nor does it ever play again after. There are heavy romantic undertones in this encounter, from the body language to the background music, and only Ann receives this treatment. It screams "attraction at first sight", and now with the groundwork laid, the relationship can begin to blossom.
This is very important. Even before we get to see Ann's face, we already know from Akira's viewpoint that she must be pretty, at least in his eyes. And when we finally do get to see her face, she is indeed beautiful.
2. Her closeness to him.
First off, she's with you from essentially the beginning of the game, so you get a lot of time to get to know her and become closer to her. Ann is the third member to join your party and the first female member and therefore the first available romance option as well! (That's pretty big.) She's also your classmate, so you get to see her literally every day and there's a sense of familiarity that is built on from the beginning.
Tumblr media
Ann was the first to see Akira for who he truly was, and she looked past the rumors of him and got to know him for herself. Because she understands being an outsider and being mistreated, there's a level of understanding Ann has with you that the other girls simply do not. That's not to say they're bad, but Ann just connects better with the protagonist on that level. Let it also be remembered that before she met Akira, and by association the rest of the Phantom Thieves; Ann didn't have any friends, besides Shiho. Due to being a foreigner (and a very pretty one, at that) and the rumors surrounding her with Kamoshida, no one talks to her. While having a two-parent household, they are rarely home; and so Ann's lonely as well as bullied. Akira saving her from Kamoshida and then giving his genuine friendship then allows her to open up and be vulnerable to other people and that's very healthy.
Another interesting interaction is during the Kamoshida arc, Makoto will ask you in essence what's the relationship between you and Ann, if there's something between you. If you say "there's nothing", her reply is "Didn't seem that way yesterday" and if you tell her you're classmates she'll say "But do friends get that close?"
3. How she falls for him.
For these reasons, I support these two. Lemme know in the comments what won you over to this pairing and any other moments that get your heart warm and fuzzy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition, Ann gets an on-screen kiss with the protagonist; a luxury only two other Persona girls have received (from 3-5, Maki kisses Naoya in P1): Margaret and Marie from Persona 4. The fact that Ann gets an explicit kiss (and possibly an implicit one as well because in Rank 9 her reaction to Joker hugging her hints he MIGHT have kissed her too) screams that while she's not 'canon' (nobody is) it sure does seem Atlus is sneakily pushing her towards Joker. They even match costumes in the dancing games! Oh yes, and Ann doesn't go home on Valentine's Day + Sojiro literally just "ayyyy" when she walks in- XD
Tumblr media
Her Confidant has the protagonist and Ann getting closer as friends and also helping Shiho recover and you get to be a part of a few of Ann's interpersonal relationships. Shiho, as stated before, was Ann's closest and only friend before she met the player; and so earning her trust and helping her heal is significant. Suzui also hints to the player Ann seems to be attracted to them, talking about how her best friend talks highly of you and then the blonde gets flustered.
Her confession shot me through the heart. With Ann you don't have to increase your Knowledge or your Guts; just Kindness. To her, it doesn't matter if you get the best grades in the class or how brave you are, she just wants a friend who'll be there for her when she needs them, and that's what Ann falls for in the protagonist: his genuineness and his willingness to stick by her side. She falls in love with you for who you are and it feels the most natural and realistic. Something that's also very interesting about Ann's rank 9 event in Japanese is instead of saying “I guess we’re more than friends now...” she actually says, “I just realized it,” referring to her feelings for him (when she said “I love you”) in the original dialogue. And this is so so important. This hints at a love that developed slowly over a friendship and Ann wasn't even really aware it was there at first, until the only friend she'd had moved away and she felt alone and abandoned again. Akira being her pillar in that moment was the paradigm shift from platonic feelings to romantic ones and that is absolutely beautiful. But she ALREADY loved him, did you catch it? She just realized and became aware of it in that situation. Ann's been in love with the protagonist for who knows how long before she even confesses. And at the end of her confidant she calls you her light.. that just speaks volumes to me. The protagonist basically saved her, and because of that she wants to become stronger and encourage other people as well. It's beautiful.
5. Other characters reactions to them.
There's a specific scene where the protagonist is in the bathhouse with Ryuji and Yusuke, and Ryuji will ask you what you think of Ann. If you admit you think she's pretty, he gets extremely excited ("Ooh, you straight up said it!")
Tumblr media
Another very interesting thing that's different in the original language is when Akira gets home from interrogation. In English, Ann just chirps "Hey there!" No big deal, right? But in Japanese, she says, “okaeri”, which means “welcome home”. This greeting is said amongst family or couples in Japan, hinting a deeper level of closeness than the translation.
(It's also something of note that when Ann got locked out of her room in Hawaii she went to Akira's room first. )
Additionally, after the school festival; Ann will talk to you about how she thinks about your future together! And if you tell her in another instance that you'd like to get married, she gets extremely excited whereas some of the other romance options become all flustered and blushy; a cute and interesting contrast.
A Mementos conversation also has Ann absentmindedly talking about how coffee goes well with sweets, to which Ryuji immediately replies 'Joker always smells like coffee, doesn't he?'
Now, I may be looking too deeply into this, but this could possibly be Ryuji "hint hint-ing" he thinks Akira and Ann are a good pair for each other. Ryuji also flat out refuses to date Ann during a scene in the gym when she offers to let him take her out. I don't know about you, but if I had a crush on somebody and they offered to let me go out with them, I don't think I'd turn it down as quickly and explicitly as Ryuji did (He tells her 'hell no, quit acting like you're some sexy anime character'). Personally I think Ryuji supports Ann with Akira and so he tries to gently nudge her over like "Okay, this guy? He's a good fit for you." Sakamoto's a great friend for Ann but I personally believe he's better as just that: a friend.
4.  Their personalities blend well.
Ann's bubbly personality contrasts wonderfully with the protagonist's more introverted, reserved side. They're sort of like Robin and Starfire, just to less extremes. Ann is very pleasant and tender and she's got a big heart and it shows; consistently. She's a great friend to Ryuji and Shiho and big sister to Futaba, while at the same time tolerating nonsense from absolutely no one, regardless of status. I now want to cast attention to Meyer-Brigg's personality types. These are headcanons, but after analyzing Akira and Ann's characters Joker seems to be an ISTJ, while Panther is an ENFP. These are abbreviations for Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging (ISTJ) and Extroversion, Intuition, Feeling, Percieving (ENFP) respectfully. Ann, at her core; is the heart of the Phantom Thieves honestly. She is very sensitive to others' emotions and feelings, and very emotionally intelligent. Being an extrovert, Ann also needs interaction and validation from other people: it energizes her and fufills her. And, in return she's a caregiver; Ann wants to support others and help them become stronger. She's a wonderful sister figure and just a comforter in general, and very amiable and chirpy. Contrast that with Akira, who makes decisions based on facts and logic rather than feelings and intuition (although in the Metaverse he seems to throw caution to the wind, quite frankly) and analyzes situations from a logical rather than emotional angle; (and there are exceptions to this like helping the woman Shido was assaulting and chasing Ann down to talk to her) and they seem on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. However, their differing personalities balance one another. While Akira keeps Ann grounded logically, she keeps him grounded emotionally and the bounce off is extremely healthy.
In Yusuke's Confidant, saying Ann is the definition of beauty nets the most points.
Atlus seems to like putting these two together as well, from giving them matching songs and outfits in the dancing games to putting them together in advertisements. It's pretty cute and though it's subtle, it's a nice little nod.

Note
001: dc, 002: tank/jorgan, 003: hawkgirl >:3 (kendra saunders) oo4: dc/ swtor
from this ask list (link)
001
Favorite character: All time favorite is Jaime Reyes, but lately I’ve been reading mostly Damian Wayne and Cass Cain stuff
Least Favorite character:. I guess Guy Gardner, in that he’s one of the characters who, whenever he shows up, makes me think “Oh my god, not this fucker again”. Or the joker. I have similar opinions on the joker.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
 DickBabs (OTP)
 Anissa/Grace (OTP)
 Jaime/Traci (they’re just cute together),
honorable mention to John Stewart/Hawkgirl from DCAU since that was my OTP as a kid.
And I can actually only think of 4, unless I count any couple I have any positive feelings towards even if they’re very minute. I’m not a huge shipper in DC verse I guess.
Character I find most attractive: Probably Grace Choi, Barbara Gordon, or Talia Al Ghul
Character I would marry: I can’t marry any of the people on my attractive list, they’re already involved in my OTPs or working with the league of assassins!
Character I would be best friends with: Jaime Reyes or Cass Cain. They would both be great friends.
a random thought: Blue Beetle is one of the power houses of DC universe fight me
An unpopular opinion: I was wondering if this opinion was too unpopular but then realized that meant it probably belonged here if so: I just find Tim Drake really uninteresting.
my canon OTP: DickBabs or Anissa/Grace I cannot pick just 1
Non-canon OTP: I actually don’t think I have one… yet
most badass character: Cass Cain or Jaime Reyes.
pairing I am not a fan of: Spitfire god its just awful.
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): there are too many to list. Cass (retconning her out of being batgirl, dark cass  saga), Barbara (magicuring her), Damian (that weird prison thing, that ian and whitewashing thing that looks awful ), Talia (whiplash between morally grey and villain ball depending on whose writing her)
favourite friendship: Jaime/Brenda/Paco they are the best.
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: I’d adopt Damian or be adopted by Jaime’s parents (Berto and Bianca), since they are some of the most well-adjusted, reasonable good parents I’ve seen in DC
002 (tank and jorgan - jorgan being a SWTOR NPC and Tank being my SWTOR republic trooper OC)
when of if I started shipping it: Some time after Tank gets the dialogue option to gently rib Jorgan.
my thoughts: They are both obviously autistic. I mean Tank is my OC so I can make her as autistic as I want. But Jorgan is too.
What makes me happy about them: that they’re both autistic :P that you can have a dynamic where the female character is more teasing of the male character (where usually it is the opposite). That there’s a dynamic where the male character isn’t super overprotective of the female character. That they like sparring 2gether and its super charming. Many things.
What makes me sad about them: 5 years they spend apart between Rise of the Emperor and Kotfe
things done in fanfic that annoys me: I havne’t read many in a very long time so I can’t remember.
things I look for in fanfic: ditto
My kinks: I never know how to answer this part.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: IDK tbh. Tank can end up with ltos of people because she has great rapport and tension with a lot of people. I know when I ran an alternate universe bounty hunter Tank, she was in a relationship with Torian and Theron (not like… canonically at the same time none of this is canonical it was just who she was a) allowed to flirt with according to the video game and b) hit it off with) Jorgan’s harder to read. I put him as BFFs w/ Dorne, but not like… romantically involved.
My happily ever after for them: they retire and spend rest of their days just chilling or training people but not getting shot at any more or having the responsibility of the galaxy on their heads anymore. Kids: Optional but not required
003 kendra saunders
How I feel about this character: I like her. I think she’s pretty cool but not one of the characters I go out of my way to read a ton.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: no one. Sorry carter (her canon ship at least in new earth). Haven’t really seen enough of her interactions to have the non canon ship yet
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I liked her interaction with John in Justice League so far
My unpopular opinion about this character: hopefully not unpopular but: The hawkman series 4 just is terrible writing to her. Treats her like shit. She has some strong characterization tied into one arc and then once it’s over they drop it ASAP and give her character traits that seem to be mostly just “the girlfriend”
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: they should have explored more her anger and the ND stuff They also should let her kick as much ass as hawkman.
my het ship: DNA
my fem/slash ship: DNA
my OTP: DNA
my OT3: DNA
my cross over ship: DNA
my kink: DNA
a head cannon fact: I actually headcanon hawkgirl as a slightly better fighter than hawkman - because he remembers most of the memory stuff in new earth, and she remembers the spaceship skills, I headcanon that she remembers all the skills better - including fighting
004 Oh man I have no clue. DC/SWTOR have any compatible characters?
I guess one I can see:
Elara Dorne/Cass Cain They were both raised by bad guys (Elara - the imps, Cass - Cain). They both left not because someone asked them to or because they were forced to but because they realized that what they were doing/being asked to do was wrong. They’re both obviously autistic. They both don’t socialize like everyone else - Elara is very formal and precise in most of her speech and adheres to rules and regulations because a) it helps her understand what is expected of people and b) they are used to enforce doing the right thing (remembering her saying that the sith discarded any rules any time they felt like it and killed whoever they wanted). Cass is obviously a little overprotective of her friends at time (remember when she knocked Steph out to keep her out of a dangerous fight?) and seems like some people read her as intimidating because of her past or difficulty with words (Tim said he was avoiding her because of her past at first).
Even if they weren’t romantically involved, they would get along great. I think they would both be able to appreciate chilling without pretenses or putting on social conditioning you don’t have. And they’d be able to share their hobbies w/ each other. And since Elara is a soldier, she could spar Cass! Obviously not w/ Cass’s talent in hand-2-hand but w/e

Garrus in ME1 but I'm not opposed to the way it is now. The development from student/mentor to equals is very organic and I think contributes to how great the romance is.
27: How many Shepards do you have?
2. One I play in game and another that lives only in my head in a fictional AU
28: What’s the most hilarious thing that’s happened to you while playing (a glitch, a mission that went haywire, etc)?
I don't know of hilarious glitches per say but on Therum while fighting geth on foot for that extra XP, I ended up stuck on lava for a bit. Couldn't climb back up onto land so had to run around until I found lava that killed me.
29: If you primarily play Paragon or Renegade, is there a dialogue/interrupt/action of the opposite alignment you always take?
Ngl I probably hit almost all interrupts because I'm trigger happy
30: Share a headcanon about one of your Shepards
The Shep who lives in my head is has Earth born background and enjoys a gifted copy of "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt. Identifies with being poor and making the most out of bad circumstances growing up.

2020 Academy Award Best Picture Nominees Guide For Those Who Haven’t Actually Watched Them
The 92nd Oscars are here and it’s time yet again for all of us to lord over one year’s worth of millions of people’s passions with the certainty of a judge at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (which ironically takes places one day later) and say aloud, “This art is and forever shall be known as better than that other art!”
Throw the notion that expression through the medium of film can exist simply to reflect a myriad of emotions and varied experiences right into the wind. We gotta know what that BEST art is, son!
So with mere hours left before Sunday’s spectacle, you’re probably asking yourself one question. “Brian, why do you keep doing this?” No, not that one. “Brian, Tumblr? Really? Does that still exist? Why don’t you spend the slightest amount of time to find a better medium for this?” No, not that one either. “But Brian, I haven’t actually watched any of these films. What am I going to do?!” Ah, now that’s the one. But fear not. I’ve got you covered. For the 6th time, I’m here to give you a rundown of what I think all of these movies are about without actually seeing them, along with some pithy little talking points to take into your Oscar parties to sound like a goddamn genius.
Tumblr media
Ford V Ferrari
In this epic clash of man vs. nature set in the den of Harrison Ford’s summer home in Plano, Texas, the extremely hungry aging star has just had a large pie from Ferrari’s Pizzeria, located at 3949 Legacy Drive, delivered…and now it is time for battle. On the About Us section of their website, Ferrari’s Pizzeria makes a “promise to our customers to provide the best Italian food using recipes handed down from our Italian grandmothers.” Hold on to your Italian grandmothers, kids - that promise is about to be put to the test. (Yeah, it’s real.)

That cameo by Mater from Cars is really what pushed this film into Oscar contention.
Christian Bale's car in Ford V Ferrari is also an unwavering method actor and remained in character as a car for the entirety of production.
Who won? I'll give you a hint, in the long run, it was not the quality of life for the American working class!
The Irishman
In this gritty thriller, Lucky the Leprechaun’s father, Frank Leprechaun, an immigrant who worked as a farrier making horseshoes in Ireland before coming to America, wishes on a shooting star for a way to make a better life for his family. He finds that chance by doing hits for the mob and we see his first job take place under a pale moon, when he shoots a diamond store clerk in the heart, blood red ballooning out onto the green grass, like crimson and clover. Later, an aging Frank Leprechaun kills union leader Jimmy Hoffa and as he dies, he divulges the secret that Hoffa’s body is buried on a plantation in Lexington to Lucky. The young boy looks back and makes a firm promise to his dying father. “They’ll never get Kentucky farm.”

The de-aging technology used in The Irishman was so advanced that, while you can’t see it, De Niro's testicles are actually two inches higher in the first half of the movie.
The run time of the movie is 3 hours and 30 minutes which is also the average amount of time Netflix users scroll through options before deciding to just watch the same episode of The Office again.
In Ireland, this movie is known as The Man.
JoJo Rabbit
From M. Night Shyamalan comes the story of a scared young boy who claims to see Jewish people. While adults around him are trying very hard to see them too, it’s Adolf Hitler who helps the boy to overcome his fear and actually communicate with the Jews to understand them and realize that the reason that he can see them is because he can help them. And then at the end we realize that Hitler was actually a Jew himself THE WHOLE TIME!

I thought it was just a bit on the nose that Taika Waititi chose to have JoJo sing her hit “Leave (Get Out)” at all the Nazis during the Allied occupation of Germany.
While juggling roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit, Scarlett Johansson would often get confused resulting in one day on set when she tried to cut Sam Rockwell’s hair in a bathtub.
Of all the nominated films, when it comes to winning Best Picture, this is…Nazi one! (Cough. Look around. Place your drink on the table. Slowly collect your coat, walk to the door, pause as if to turn, sigh, leave.)
Joker
It’s 1964 and Cesar Romero has established himself as a force in Hollywood. A multi-talented performer and veteran of WWII, Romero has amassed an impressive body of work playing roles as a versatile character actor, when he gets a call from his agent.
Agent: Cesar, I’ve got something that I think you’d be perfect for.
Cesar Romero: Is it a complex villain in a new Western? A dark turn as a gangster in a noir? A comedic foil in a Sinatra vehicle?
Agent: No. Better.
Cesar Romero: What is it?
Agent: Get this. An evil clown Batman nemesis…on TV!
(Silence.)
Cesar Romero: Um.
Agent: You’ll be kind of like a sidekick to Burgess Meredith! And guess what he is?
Cesar Romero: (Deep breath.) What is he?
Agent: Like a half-man, half-penguin sort of thing…I think. But he’s also evil! Oh, and you’ll also get to star alongside Julie Newmar!
Cesar Romero: Oh, well that may have legs. So, do we have a “will they, won’t they” dynamic?
Agent: Not at all! But she is evil too. And also part cat!
Cesar Romero: I do not understand any of what you are saying.
Agent: And it’s got Frank Gorshin!
Cesar Romero: And what is he? Let me guess. Like an evil frog person?
Agent: No, no! He’s The Riddler. It’s sort of the same exact deal as your character, only he doesn’t wear any makeup. Isn’t this wonderful?!
Cesar Romero: (Pause.) You have to be joking.
Agent: No, Cesar. YOU have…to be joking.

We still have a little bit of time for Joaquin Phoenix to die and win a posthumous Oscar for this role and keep with tradition. Then in 11 more years, a woman will win Best Supporting Actress for playing the Joker role and then in another 11 years the actual Joker will direct Joe Kerr in a reboot co-starring the Impractical Jokers…and win an Oscar.
I found the end scene touching when Arthur’s wife delivers his child and asks, “Arthur, what do you want to name your son?” And he replies, “Béla.”
Todd Phillips only made this big flashy blockbuster for the studio so that they’d let him do his deeply personal, intimate art house project, The Hangover IV.
Little Women
In a fresh take on a movie that I think is about some nuns living in a cottage during, fuck, I dunno like 1845? 1912? Aught 5? but there’s like a mean one, and a smart-and-sort-of-pretty-but-not-too-pretty one, and they probably have a dog, oh and a horse, and they have fights about vying for the love of the same boy they grew up with who is now some hot stud with poofy hair and poofy shirts and a nasally British accent, oh and there’s 2-3 other sisters that really just serve to further the main sister’s plot, and there is like fucking grass everywhere and how is all that grass not staining the shit out of those long flowy dresses that they always wear on their farm – or is it a glen? can you live ON a glen? – but later the guy marries the right one and he’s a strong man but is totally cool with her writing about some bullshit about being like a female doctor pioneer or something – oh and she’s wearing a straw hat with like a ribbon that’s always flapping the fuck around behind her – I forgot also that they only have one parent, the other is definitely dead and that comes up a little too often, and my mom and two sisters have to have tissues near the goddamn couch while they watch this seemingly 14 hour fucking miniseries or movie or Hallmark marathon because even though each of them could goddamn recite the dialogue from memory they still cry every…single…time…and OH MY GOD, CAN THIS ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, SOUND OF MUSIC, LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE OR WHATEVER THIS GIRL STUFF IS PLEASE BE OVER SO I CAN HAVE THE LIVING ROOM TV BACK TO WATCH BOY STUFF!

Not many people know this fact but on her death bed, Louisa May Alcott’s final request was that if a woman ever directed a film adaptation of Little Women they would absolutely under no circumstances be nominated for a Best Director Oscar. So, really, that’s on her.
To ants, these are very big women.
Alan Dershowitz and Prince Andrew's favorite film.
Marriage Story
Dr. Ellie Sattler has established her second career as a divorce attorney after years as a paleobotanist and now fights so that “woman inherits the earth”...or at least gets primary custody and more than half of the assets.

The roommates of Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig have become increasingly annoyed listening to several minutes of the two repeating, “No I hope YOU are recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with the Academy Award for Best Picture…and hang up first,” before ending their long phone calls every night.
While juggling roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit, Scarlett Johansson would often get confused resulting in one day on set when she tried to hide Robert Smigel in the attic.
Variety reports that a remake of Marriage Story is now slated for fall of 2026 with Colin Jost in the role originated by Adam Driver in a version of the story that will be produced by real life.
1917
The seventh and final installment of the 1910's saga follows the previous successful box office hits 1911: The First One, 1912: Now There's Two, 1913: Why Not Three, 1914: Get It? Years Are Sequential. That’s Really All This Joke Is, 1915: This Is The Fifth One (But Fourth Sequel), and 1916: 19 Fast 16 Furious.

Originally, the movie was supposed to have a ton of cuts between scenes but after saying, “Action,” a producer whispered to Sam Mendes that they only had budget left for one single take after hiring every single recognizable British actor still alive – so Mendes started screaming, “Run! You there, start shooting at them. Keep rolling! Keep running! Jump down that waterfall! Let’s go, people, keep up! Hide in those trees now! Oh look, more bad guys! Pew pew! Duck! Run over that way! Do not…stop…shooting!”
If this movie was called 2017, Colin Firth would have just pulled out his Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and texted, “Call off attack,” with a GIF of Admiral Ackbar saying, “It’s A Trap!” Then, mere seconds later he would have received, “lol k thx”.
1917 earned Benedict Cumberbatch a nomination for “Most Distressingly Off-putting Mustache”.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood harkens back to a time long, long, long ago in Hollywood's history when the majority of top actors were white, the majority of directors were old men and individual parts of women's bodies were oddly objectified and sexualized. We’ve come so far since then!

Please don’t ruin the fun and let Brad Pitt know that a movie was actually being filmed around him from June to November 2018.
I didn’t think the film was particularly that great but every single person I know who lives in L.A. and is either in or adjacent to the entertainment industry corrected me that it actually is.
Oh, I’m sorry – I think you’re in the wrong place. This is the once upon a time where a man is burned alive with a blowtorch. If you’re looking for the once upon a time where a man’s eyes are drilled out of his face, well then, pal, you’re gonna want to go to Mexico.
Parasite
Oh. I’m sorry. I accidentally put a Best For'n Language Film here at the end of this list of the best ‘Murican films.
3 Things To Casually Inject Into Conversation To Prove You Saw The Movie And Sound Like An Expert:
Parasite was, by far, the best movie I read this year!
나는 기생충을 진심으로 감사 할 수 있도록 한국어를 배웠습니다.
Bong Joon-ho's Parasite might leave you asking who are the real bottom feeders in the black comedy about social structures. There's plenty of food for thought as this picture is deeper than than what it may seem like on the surface…is the word-for-word review from Rotten Tomatoes Super Reviewer Aldo G that I just read to you out loud after pulling it up on my phone here.
