Red bedroom headcanons.

There's...some unity, at least among the major furniture, but there is some disorder, lack of color coordination.

The walls must stay white, seeing as he lives in an apartment. Lots of wall stuff to help fill the space.

Red has a firm mattress, explicitly for back support. He takes pride in having a strong body.

Pretend that there are like, several more posters on the wall by his bed; lots of tournament posters, not just of ones he has participated in, but ones he watched growing up, too. [[Kyle didn't have posters for this...

In conjuction with this, he has two trophies from these tournaments for show. He has some others, but they're in storage.

Many books are scattered about, many of which are pokemon-related, explicitly for research purposes. These are chalk full of notes from himself and from the Lab.

The desk in his room is from childhood, reused for as long as he can remember. On the cork board of his desk are several pictures and postcards from his travels are hung up. Other notebooks are scattered across his desk.

He likes to keep a calendar chronicling different events, appointments, etc. It's in line with the fact that he prefers to keep a routine.

In the fish bowl, Red is raising a pair of tynamo. He is currently saving up for a larger tank.

The boxes above his desk are filled with different photos and memorabilia. A framed photo of his father sits inside.

The small bed beside his desk is meant for Pika, or really any of his other smaller pokemon. The scratches on the wall are from...well, miss rat herself. Red doesn't mind, it gives the wall character.

He's a bit of a slob...but he's gotten better.

Sashisu vs Itafushikugi: an Astro Analysis

So this is going to be an analysis about these trios and the similarities and the differences they have (I’m also basing this on my precedent analyses about all six of them, feel free to check those to know more).

First of all, when analyzing different groups of people we have to keep in mind their social and generational planets.

Sashisu: Cancer Jupiter, Capricorn Saturn/Uranus/Neptune, Scorpio Pluto.

Itafushikugi: Leo Jupiter, Gemini Saturn, Aquarius (Megumi&Nobara) and Pisces (Yuuji) Uranus, Aquarius Neptune, Sagittarius Pluto.

The thing that could easily explain the overall mood of all of this is probably this meme:

Scorpio vs Sagittarius Pluto

This picture is especially representative of the difference between Scorpio and Sagittarius Pluto. Pluto defines the overall “existential mood”, the survival spirit of entire generations. It’s not a surprise that Scorpio Pluto kids (1984-1996 circa) were emo/scene teenagers, and that Sagittarius Pluto teenagers (1996-2008 circa)  now are “the meme kids”. Pluto is the planet of death and rebirth and “life cycles”, and it is in domicile in Scorpio. You can really understand how Scorpio Pluto kids were the conclusion of an era and the start of another, their job was (and still IS) to use the power they have, even if they think it’s scarce and not enough, to end whatever system existed before. And from the ruins of that emerges the Sagittarius Pluto generation.

Sagittarius is the “explorer” so it’s its job to travel through the wilderness and find another way of living, a new model to follow, so it’s normal that nowadays teens may feel a deep sense of “lostness” that they try to cover with “at least I’ll have fun”.

Saturn vs Uranus

Another reason why Sashisu may feel more “mature” compared to Itafushikugi is that they have that Capricorn Stellium really “grounds” them a lot. The fact that their sense of discipline and morality (Saturn), their views of innovation (Uranus) and their inspirations and their dreams (Neptune) have all the same common denominator. To quote another person from the same generation aka Nanami, it really looks like what they think they need is a 9-5 job that gets them enough money to retire early and then go finally live their life. That Capricorn energy, especially since it’s trailed by that Saturn in domicile, invites them to grit their teeth, to calculate your actions and stick to your plans, to “sacrifice” a bit because the results of those efforts are “delayed”, it’s like putting aside any spare coin you have and only a lot of time later you’ll see how much cash you made. Heck, I’d say that meeting them when they’re adults and then discovering that they too were young and vulnerable seems like a very Capricornian thing.

Itafushikugi’s social and generational planets lack earth energy, and that’s why their generation may look more “active” and dynamic.That air energy makes them more free-minded while the fire energy makes them more “fiery”. Their Saturn is in Gemini, which is a very weird placement because it’s debilitated or anything but you can already feel that struggle between a curious, “mercurial”, childish (or better, teenager-ish) sign and the hard job Saturn requires. I’d argue that this generation is lead by that Uranus (in domicile) in Aquarius, because if Sashisu were the people who discovered the system (Saturn) isn’t working anymore, then it’s up to younger kids to lead the revolution (Uranus).

It’s also very interesting how Yuuji is actually NOT part of the Aquarius Uranus generation. He’s the youngest character in the series and his Uranus is already in Pisces. I think it’s a distinguishing trait that makes him seem a bit different from his peers, like standing out as the “weirdo” in the group because his sense of originality is different from them.

Cancer Jupiter/Capricorn Saturn vs Gemini Saturn/Sagittarius Pluto

It’s very interesting how both generations present an opposition among social/generational planets.

Sashisu’s one is marked by the Cancer Jupiter theoretically opposing three Capricorn planets, but I think that overall the Jupiter/Saturn is the most important one because those planets represent concepts that seem to be antithetical. Cancer (exalted) Jupiter incites you to share your resources with others, no matter if it’s influence, information or material stuff or just “gut feeling”, to create a warm and welcoming environment. Capricorn Saturn (in domicile) tells you to stick to the rules, to deal with the responsibilities dumped on you by higher structures, no matter how hard they are. The one who has the tightest opposition here is Shoko, while Geto doesn’t really have this aspect because the two planets are too far away, but he has so much Saturnian energy that I think this works for him too.

Itafushikugi’s generation is highlighted by the Gemini Saturn/Sagittarius Pluto opposition. If Saturn is related to rules and authoritative figures, and Pluto represents regenerations and crave for power, we could say that there’s an innate feeling of antipathy for any social norm or structure, which could literally try to prevent their rise to power. It’s interesting how the person who has the tightest opposition is Yuuji, followed by Megumi, while Nobara basically escapes it (Yuuji risking execution, Megumi defied the laws by saving Yuuji, and Nobara...well she’s the least tied to that occurrence).

Similarities and differences among their personal planets

It’s very curious that Sashisu all have their Suns square their Moons, which highlights a struggle between what they feel and their sense of identity. I have already said this, but a very very peculiar thing is that Geto and Shoko’s Suns are perfectly squaring their Suns (Aquarius and Scorpio), and so do their Moons (Taurus and Aquarius). So Shoko���s Moon is conjunct to Geto’s Sun, while Geto’s Moon is opposing Shoko’s Sun. I think that this scene is the perfect representation of this kind of synastry, it’s like Shoko gets him but Geto doesn’t think so because his idea of her seems to be opposite to what he feels.

Gojo’s Moon doesn’t really square his Sun, and the fact that both are in Jupiterian signs (Sagittarius and Pisces) may ease just a teeny tiny bit this aspect.

Another thing that is very very interesting about Sashisu is that all three of them have Venus in Capricorn.

Itafushikugi, instead, all have Suns inconjunct their Moons, so that kind of struggle is not there. There’s kind of a parallel: Nobara’s Sun sign is the same as Megumi’s Moon (both in Leo), while Megumi’s Sun and Nobara’s Moon are in opposite signs (Capricorn and Cancer). The planets are all far away from each other so it’s not a real conjunction/opposition, BUT Megumi and Nobara’s Moon (being at early and late degrees) are actually kind of conjuct (?) each other.

Also not a parallel but let’s not forget that both generations have a person with a “what the fuck” chart (in very different ways: Geto with his six (6) planets in Capricorn (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) vs Nobara and her five planets in domicile (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Uranus).

Somebody said that Yuuji and Geto seem a bit similar, the closest explanation I can think about it is that they both are Venusian Moons (Libra and Taurus) with an (exalted) Capricorn Mars (why such gentle souls have a bazooka in their hands???). Actually, all Sashisu have dignified Mars: Gojo and Shoko’s are in domicile in Scorpio, and Geto has an exalted Mars in Capricorn; Megumi has also Mars in Scorpio, Yuuji in Capricorn, only Nobara has it in Leo, which means it’s not dignified BUT it’s very very tightly conjunct her Sun and trining her Pluto so it’d be an insult to not take that into consideration.

Another difference between the two generations is that in Sashisu each person lacks an element (Gojo lacks Air placements while Shoko and Geto lack Fire placements), while Itafushikugi all have at least one planet in each sign.

As a conclusion, here are some elements that jump to the eye when analyzing each character’s chart:

- Gojo: enough Jupiterian energy to contrast those four Capricorn planets

- Geto: Six planets in Capricorn + Sun in Aquarius, aka SEVEN Saturnian planets

- Shoko: both Mars and Pluto in Scorpio, but only Pluto possibly in her 1st house while Mars slips in her 12th house

- Yuuji: Pisces/Aquarius energy

- Nobara: Leo stellium (Sun, Mars, Jupiter), Sun very closely conjunct Mars and Sun perfectly trine Pluto.

- Megumi: Pluto in the 4th house and Jupiter in the 12th house perfectly conjuct.

It’s time to grow up

AppleTV jailbreaks, for those who were even aware of their existance, have always been seen as novel at best. And justifiably so! Compared to iOS the changes that can be made to your device are minimal. It should come as no surprise then that the single most common question we see when announcing a new AppleTV jailbreak is: Why?

Why jailbreak the AppleTV? For me the answer has always been the same, freedom. “This feature or behavior is missing from my favorite system on my TV or my phone, let me add it!” You may be motivated to tinker with your devices because you enjoy it and are passionate about contributing to a community that has such a rich history of drastically changing the ecosystem of a variety of Apple (or other companies) products. Our community had an App Store before Apple, we had copy and paste first, mobile notifier was a tweak Peter Hajas sold on the Cydia store before Apple hired him and a version of his solution became the de-facto way to receive notifications in iOS. 

Even pop culture has given at least two pretty awesome nods to jailbreaking:

Awesome pop culture references aside, up to the present day a product like nControl came first (as did many things that made it into *OS 13, and even Controllers for All came before nControl), this helps me pivot to the next point. 

The availability of alternate 'jailbreak' stores throughout iOS history has always been a huge boon to the community and arguably is the main reason it still thrives. None of these stores ever adapted to tvOS, which gave us a fantastic opportunity to make one on our own. 

We have been, for a long time, and have fought through many challenges to get here, but:

I know, I know, it's 'old' news because I already announced it earlier this week on twitter, however, this is still the inaugural post to officially announce it anyways! 

nControl is the lone product right now, but in the very near future we will extend an invitation to *OS developers to join the party. We strongly believe tvOS has the most untapped potential out of any Apple device and we want your help to actualize this potential!!

Down to brass tacks, right now it isn't possible for us to accept other developers, most of the infrastructure is there, but not enough to open the door just yet. When this does happen we have some cool features that we think you will like, among them is ability to provide Package Discounts and Payout percentage calculation (two developers on same project). 

In conjuction with the next phase of the store launch (inviting more developers) there will be a FREE class I will be teaching ASAP to anyone who is interested in learning how to code for this platform. Varying levels of experience will be accepted! We will be offering ideas for commercial products, and will help you create them!

Conclusion

Time to circle back to the question of 'Why jailbreak' It may seem like I never directly answered the question. Here's a direct answer, the future. Right now there isn't a ton of earth shattering reasons, I think nControl is awesome, and I also think its a better fit for the AppleTV than any other Apple device. Maybe games aren't your cup of tea, outside of AirMagic a few assorted tweaks and freedom, there aren't a ton of answers that will fill an immediate need for an answer, the store can help catalyze this community to grow into what it has the potential to be. I know the pieces fit. The metamorphosis is almost complete, it’s time to for the AppleTV to discard it’s awkward phase and to become an adult.

Transit Talk 2/22/19

Welcome to Pisces Season! It's time to flow with the cosmic waters of "The Fish That Swam in the Pure Sea", Pisces is a mutable water sign and allows for buried emotions to flow out of us like the river Jordan. In Today's Transits we get very aquainted with our feelings as emotions rise and fall like the ebb and flow of the oceans.

For a few hours of our morning, we have the Moon inconjunct Neptune which is going to have us all a little more emotionally sensitive than usual. You may feel conflicting emotions that leave you tense and uneasy. If these feelings are not expressed properly tensions within you and your relationships may arise. Neptune is ruler of Pisces, and esoterically ruled by the Moon. Therefore, when these two planets meet in quincux the need to express these harsh emotions becomes vital! LET THEM OUT! They must flow with the Piscean waters, Pisces is mutable and must always stay in motion. Opportunities may present themselves to speak your highest truth. Through this expression your daily life will become a clearer picture and your true inner being will resurface. Do not expect more from yourself than is realistic at this time, you must practice self-compassion and self-love.

Then into out afternoon, we have the Moon squaring Saturn. For a few hours feelings of restriction and depression may influence you. Sadness, loneliness, guilt and shame arise from past failures, loss and grief. Relationship problems may occur if your emotional maturity is low at this time. Now is not a good time to socialize, as you most likely feel out of touch with others. Saturn urges you to take responsibility for your emotions and reactions; think of depression as DEEP REST that your mind, body and soul needs. Have you been too hard on yourself lately? Take these few hours to reconnect with your inner child, if you call they will respond.

Next, starting in our evening, we have Mercury square Jupiter. This splashes a light hue of optimism to our day as we start to have high hopes for the future. Although we shouldn't allow this positivity to obscure our view of reality. Remember all of the other influences at play, for this square has a tendency to lack concentration and focus, making proper perspective highly important at this time. Pay extra attention to how you express yourself. Judgement errors and mistakes may occur due to overinflated confidence and idealism. Jupiter can make us feel bigger than we are in the moment and overwhelm our thoughts with anxiety. Give yourself a reality check by spending some time in silence; meditate, pray, read, study or write! Now is a great time to reconnect with your higher self.

Later in our evening we have Moon quincux Mercury, this added with the influences of Jupiter and Saturn can cause confusion due to reading more into situations than are really there. Take time to adjust your thinking to accomodate to your feelings, as many of them have remained hidden to you. Work, compromise and understanding are needed at this time to overcome negative thinking patterns and self doubt. Refine your thoughts, words and emotions to a path of self expression.

Into our night, we have the Moon squaring Venus increasing the need for pleasure through love and affection. Depending on how you handled the previous transits, you may be experiencing a conflict between how you feel and what you allow into your heart. Motivation may not come easy at this time. Feeling careless, moody, self-indulgent, sad, or lonely may be a result of interacting with people that steal your happiness or mooch off of your vibration. Seek solitude, and make an extra effort for peace, harmony and tranquilty to remedy harsh emotions. If you handled the previous transits with more ease, you may be experiencing feelings of being sociable, romantic, sensual or sentimental. If this is the case, spend time with loved ones that make you feel safe and secure. However, bring balance back to your relationships by taking care of yourself first!

At the same time, we also have the Moon squaring Pluto, which may lead to compulsive and destructive behavior if not channelled properly. It may be difficult at this time to control such intense emotions and reactions. Pluto is a highly energetic planet whose focus is prestine. Deeply buried feelings may be exposed or exercised. Conscious awareness is a potent remedy for this energy. Pluto is all or nothing and will either make you or break you, but is only destructive if you do not heed the call to change. Now is the time to release what no longer serves you, break free of the karmic chains that have been holding you back for so long. Just like the Devil card in the Major Arcana, Pluto can be misinterpreted as negative destruction or even death, but we have to tear down the old foundation so that the new one may be built; we must die in order to be reborn. Think of this as a positive transformation of your emotions and relationships, the Eagle soaring high above, the Pheonix rising from the ashes. Dr. Hubbs is an entomologist studying a frighteningly intelligent multi-species ant colony in Arizona – or are the ants studying him? He calls in a cryptographer, Dr. Lesko, to help him try to communicate with the insects.  For the next hour or so, the scientists do scientist stuff and the ants do ant stuff. Occasionally something happens.  The ants tear a house down, and the people inside flee only to be accidentally sprayed with a massive overdose of pesticide. The scientists have praying mantises to keep the ants from getting into their little moon dome, but the ants take them out with ant assassins. Stuff like that.  Eventually Hubbs dies of an ant bite, but the ants capture everybody else to do... something... to them... and then the movie's over.

For the most part Phase IV is deathly boring.  We're either listening to the scientists talk about whatever, or watching ants wiggle their antennas at other ants that are never in the same shot because in the real world two different types of ants put together will either ignore or eat each other.  Dr. Hubbs goes off on poetic flights about the perfection of ant society, and shows that he is the Mad Scientist of the movie by discounting the deaths of actual people.  Dr. Lesko translates ant-language to come up with weird oscilloscope traces and geometric diagrams that might or might not mean anything. Desert Wildlife Stock Footage appears and there's a teenage girl named Kendra who has to hang around because going outside would mean crawly formic death.  The soundtrack is kinda trippy but at the same time impossibly dull.

In fact, it's because Phase IV is dull that I often find it so funny.  Since nothing much is happening, my brain wanders off on odd tangents with the sparse information the film gives me.  We begin with Dr. Lesko's narration telling us that this was all caused by some kind of unspecified celestial event.  Really? A conjuction of the planets created smart ants?  Jupiter is in retrograde and Mercury is rising in Libra, so be conservative with your investments – and watch out, because this month's full moon is the perfect time for ants to suddenly develop a superintelligent hive mind!

Then the narration starts talking about ants 'doing things ants don't do', like holding meetings.  This bodes ill for mankind, sure, but the word 'meetings' just makes me picture ants at tiny tables, sipping tiny lattes while they discuss how best to put the wasp nest under the porch out of business.  Never mind that Lesko's voice is over footage of ants doing... well, exactly what ants do; grooming, fighting, and carrying stuff through tunnels.  The shots cut back and forth from one ant to another of a different species in a way that suggests we're probably supposed to be imagining a dialogue between them, but there's not even any squeaking sounds dubbed in.  I admit that this is realistic, because ants communicate chemically.  It still looks ridiculous.

How about the bit where the ant queen (who I'm pretty sure is not played by an ant – the animal we see looks more like some kind of wasp) assimilates an insecticide, producing offspring that are immune to it?  Sure, scary idea, but Dr. Hubbs intones, 'we challenge with yellow chemistry, they respond with yellow creatures'.  Is that how that works?  Because now I'm pondering the artistic possibilities of feeding Skittles to the ants.

Or how about when the ants decide to cook the humans in their hideaway by focusing solar radiation onto it?  Revenge for all those kids with magnifying glasses, am I right?  Or how Dr. Lesko blasts the tops off the ant towers to try to get a reaction?  That seems a little extra, when any bored six-year-old knows much easier ways to get an ant colony moving.  How about the fact that at the end everybody runs off into the desert in their bare feet when they know damned well there's seventy billion pissed-off ants out there?

The ants only get one moment in the movie that's really effective, when it does seem like there's a higher intellect at work behind these millions of mindless drones in perhaps the same sort of way as billions of neurons come together to create a conscious human brain. That's when the ants bring a sample of the yellow pesticide back to the hill for their queen to examine.  One ant carries this as far as it can before the poison kills it, then another one picks it up and does the same.  Individual ants are expendable. There are just so damn many of them that it makes no difference, and the colony can always produce more to replace what has been lost.  This uses what makes ants scary even when they're not superintelligent, along with reminding us that their purpose here is to study our weapons and learn to neutralize them.

Hubbs dies of the ant venom, but Lesko and Kendra are captured and taken inside an enormous ant hill, where the ants begin doing something to them that seems poised to begin a real dialogue.  In the final moments of the movie we're on the verge of finding out what's really been going on... and then it just ends.

So what was all that leading up to?  We don't know!  And Lesko's final words of narration, we didn't know for what purpose, but we knew we would be told, just seem to rub the anticlimax in our faces – he found out, but we never will!  I'm left with the impression that writer Mayo Simon didn't have any real idea, himself.  I guess the point is supposed to be that the ants are such a completely alien mind that Lesko probably couldn't explain it to us if he wanted to.  Fair enough, but still a lousy non-ending to a boring eighty-four minute movie.

All this movie needed was a conclusion.  Not even a conclusion to the overall 'smart ants take over the world' thing, just a conclusion to the 'kidnap Lesko and Kendra and make them members of the hive' thing.  Are the ants after human knowledge?  Do they need human emmissaries?  Human spies?  Human slaves?  Humans to play the slots in Vegas while the ants manipulate the machines to pay out big wins? A fertile couple to be the progenitors of a new race of Ant-People? See, there I go again, off on tangents trying to supply the entertainment this movie so conspicuously failed to give me.

Eager to test out the new dark-interface I began doing what I normally do: turning a great picture into what appears to be a great painting, drawing, or other art-form. I think I had some success.

Clothify 

The clothify filter is an interesting one: it adds a texture to an image. Using this in conjuction with one of the several pixel grouping filters (I believe this was the waterpixel filter) I was able to produce a very modern looking image:

However, it’s a bit dreary for my taste. So I took a second crack at it to lighten it up. This time I used the Clothify filter, Softglow, and the ever mysterious Van Gogh filter. It came out pretty neat:

Great! It’s much less dreary!

Using the Softglow filter to lighten it up really helped, but the Van Gogh filter is what really made it. Despite that, the Van Gogh filter is … complex to say the least, operating on multiple dimensions of the picture data at once. I’ll have to devote some more time to unraveling its mysteries later.

Cartoonify

I’ve been a huge fan of the Cartoonify filter for a long time. I find when using it on architecture, people, plants, vespa, wormholes, or anything remotely complex, it takes a bit of pre or post-processing to make it work. 

One of the things that goes great with a Cartoony filter, or with most photo-editing in general, is adjusting the color saturation. By increasing the saturation you really make the image *pop*. So for the next round I decided to try increasing the color saturation (to about 1.8), cartoonifying it, and then applying a nice Softglow effect. It came out with nice, vivid colors:

It looks pretty nice!

But the edges are a little sharp in the foreground. In an effort to dull it a bit and make it look more “hand-painted” I decided to repeat the process with the bizarre Van Gogh filtering enabled:

Much softer! It has bright colors and nice, friendly feel. Combines with the distortion of the Van Gogh effect, it really gives that “hand-painted” feel.

It would make a great image for a D&D or ttrpg campaign, a good, lively feeling visual of a mysterious castle while the tide is out.
