was rereading vol 1 and the fact that ailette legally acquired all the chapters of Infinite Returns to Save the World is extremely crazy
like i know the real reason "thank god I bought all of these legally!" is a line in the story is because irinbi hates pirates lol, but in context of the story you start to wonder what on earth ailette's priorities were.
how on earth - and more importantly, why - was she spending her meagre middle school allowance on what she calls "the most frustrating novel i've ever read". she was neglected as well, so i don't imagine her allowance was even on the same level as most kids' allowances
#a transmigrator's privilege#the perks of being an s class heroine#ailette rodeline#inb4 s class heroine pulls a kim dok/ja where ailette was very genuinely rooting for tesilid despite or rather perhaps bc of#how bleak things always were for him and how no one was ever there for him but he kept pushing on#that would make the final ending very cruel tho .#but tbh the image of a small ailette reading the story and going 'hes going to be okay right??? right????' is so cute lol#teeny tiny ailette in denial while reading the story#i feel like ailette describing the novel as the most frustrating thing ever is probably smthing that only happened#at least halfway or 3 quarters thru#altho she mightve pushed on reading a shitty novel anw if she was in middle school... kids do have more time and tenacity.......#maybe we'll have kim 'i only ever read one (1) shitty story bc it was made for me' dok/ja#and then we'll have ailette 'i read every genre under the sky bc this 1 novel i read to survive was NOT made for me & i needed smthing else

i can't stop thinking about Tulpar Joe's but specifically in the somewhat sinister shopping center my local Trader Joe's is in
the parking spaces are noticeably smaller then they are anywhere else in the area. there are at least 3 sub places of indeterminate branding that are thriving, yet the only Five Guy's within reasonable driving distance shut down. there's a Panera quartered off in a weird twisting back road all by itself. a suspicious amount of gators live in the retention pond. every day Anya uses the large and highly telegraphed crosswalk like a good law abiding citizen and someone tries to hit her with their car. also i lied, it's even not a Trader Joe's. halfway thru writing i remembered it's actually a Harris Teeter. that's how sinister this place is, it's actively editing my memories. the only exit is thru a school zone
#*furious pecking*#sorry this turned into a rant about i hate that goddamn shopping center so much#it's malicious location

November reading wrapup
hmmm pretty good month for quantity but hit or miss for quality, i either loved or hated almost all of these. 💆🏻♀️
1. the lover, marguerite duras — tumblr girl classic, ur fav web weaving posts almost definitely feature a snippet of this. like woah 😭 ok very timeless very vivid and real. I did cry.
2. icebreaker, hannah grace — this is EMBARASSINGGGGGG i was going to a hockey game and was like woah let me get into this mindset... into this world… THIS BOOK WAS MISLEADING i thought itd be equal parts hockey world ice skater world equal parts romance and no.. it was nothing of the sort... this was just tooooo porny like WAY too much, even for me. AND I USED TO WRITE SM- *gunshot*
3. throne of glass, sarah j mass — does anyone have any good fantasy series recs that arent this?? like this is what years without winds of winter will do to a woman. im settling for this subpar garbage. but i am gonna keep reading it bc what else do i have, george???
4. mickey7, edward ashton — been on my tbr since rob pattinson was announced to be the lead in this in the bong joon-ho movie… i feel like with the creatives behind it thisll end up being one of those rare bones and all situations where the adaptation is wayyyyy better than the book. but idk. book itself was whatever good concept but didnt even really go anywhere. i thought that i had guessed a twist lie 3 quarters of the way thru but there was no twist literally nothing happened. therefore MID
5. blood meridian, cormac mccarthy — the only other time i had like a visceral tummy churning reaction to a book like this was when i read theons chapters in a dance with dragons 😭😭😭 anyway i like the lack of quotation marks and i also find it easier to write without them SHOOT ME
6. death valley, melissa broder — im really endeared to broder as a writer because i feel like she can only do one thing really well and shes very self aware of that.. which i respect.. also what the protag is going thru here at the start of the book is something ive also gone thru and it felt very strangely accurate and bizarre as a real person reading about a fake person going thru it. and literally within the book the protag references how writers poorly portray their characters accurately 'going thru it' (i keep saying going thru it bcoz im trying not to spoil even tho no ones gonna read my recs ALTHO this one deserves to be read i think) so that was cray and meta but umm what im trying to say is.. melissa i wanted to go to ur book signing i literally had my day cleared in my planner for u. why did u have to cancel the event.
7. indelicacy, amina cain — public announcement i guess but hey girl @noumenongirl i think you would love this one i dont know why but the whole time i was reading i was just like woah she’d love this😭 i liked it a lot
8. the penelopiad, margaret atwood — this is what circe by madeline miller wanted and tried to be but failed tremendously at.....
9. crown of midnight, sarah j mass — was better than throne of glass in the beginning actually but then they halfway thru lost me again..
10. the assassins blade, sarah j mass — im just hate reading at this point like i dont have anything else to do. Celaena youll never be daenerys girl like stop
11. elvis and me, priscilla beaulieu presley — ohhhh…. :,(((( my fav celeb memoir yet i think.....
+ bonus — im gonna add this to my december list but im like 75% of the way with fourth wing rn, good fawking heavens i wishthat grrm could trademark copyright the concept of dragons like i dont think anyone should be allowed to write about DRAGONS only him. like mini spoilers for fourth wing SORRY but WHY DO THE DRAGONS SPEAK ENGLISH, WHY DO THEY EVEN SPEAK AT ALL....cringe. but better than throne of glass at least😭 but it doesnt take much to be better than throne of glass to be fair. OK reading wrapup over.
#technically read lover at the end of october SORRRYY... SORRY FOR CHEATING.... but had to mention it bc it was the best of the lot imo#and if u have any recs lmk😸!#booklr

#HarringroveApril Day 3: Spring Break
***
“So class, let’s go around the room and say what we all did for spring break.”
Steve hated these days, when he was forced to hear about all the fun everyone had, traveling to far away places while he just got drunk and high by himself in his own home. Just him and the voices on the television for a week just waiting and waiting for that next Monday to finally roll around and get back to some sort of normalcy. As much as he despised those school halls they were ten times better than his own.
The week had started out just the same, driving down empty streets because half the town jumped on the opportunity to get away. Drive thru lines were nonexistent, tumbleweeds outnumbered people, everything was quiet.
The stupid talking stick snaked around the room. His classmates talked about their trips to the beach and getting to see the ocean, trips to Vegas which didn’t seem very practical for kids of only seventeen, some ventured into the depths of the woods to camp, something Steve was smart enough not to do in Hawkins, Indiana, no matter how many times they insisted that the gate was closed, and that it would stay closed.
It seemed everyone had found something to do with their week, except for the guy who was for some reason sitting on his front porch when he’d pulled in to his driveway carrying a bucket of KFC that he was definitely not planning to eat all by himself.
Billy.
“Surprised you’re still here. Figured a rich boy like you would have hopped on a plane to France or something.” Billy said, walking over to him where he was standing, leant up against the side of the Beemer twirling his keys around his index finger. He pulled a leg out of the bucket without even asking.
“What are you doing here Hargrove?” Steve asked, rolling his eyes over the messy way Billy took a bite into the chicken, smearing grease all over his face.
“You know why I’m here.”
He did. Billy was there for the exact same reason he was always there. He was there for Steve’s bed, his dick, his mouth... everything but Steve himself, at least that was the way it had felt.
Billy fisted the collar of Steve’s shirt and pulled him in closer, the bucket of KFC in his arms being the only thing applying distance between the two of them. “What do you say we make this week ours?”
Steve didn’t like one night stands, if you could even call them that considering Billy kept coming back, hookups would probably be more precise. Steve wanted more than a sweaty half hour with Billy Hargrove, he wanted more.
But it was either fucking Billy Hargrove all week, or watching The Golden Girls on repeat by himself, and as much as he loved Betty White, one option was definitely more enticing.
So he agreed to Billy’s proposition. They ate a quarter of the bucket before taking it upstairs where they did their same old thing. A fuck without feelings. No talking, just grunts and moans that, to be fair, Steve ate right up.
Except something changed. Something was different about all those other times Billy came over.
Because he didn’t leave.
He stayed put, right where he was laying on his bed, just rolled onto his side and pulled the covers up to his waist. Usually he’d be halfway out the door, the sound of the Camaro revving outside his window being completely absent was strange. And Billy just patted the mattress with the palm of his hand, his eyes falling shut like he was ready to go to sleep, and Steve didn’t know what to do other than exactly what he wanted to do. Forget the heart beating out of his chest or the breath caught in his throat when he laid down and Billy’s arms quickly wrapped around him, all he could focus on was Billy’s sweaty skin against his own and maybe he misunderstood what Billy meant when he said “let’s make this week ours.”
When he woke up in the morning, Billy was still there. His arms still wrapped around him in the same way they fell asleep.
And Billy stayed. He stayed through the morning, through the evening, stayed the night again, and again, and sure... a lot of that time was spent undressed and doing their usual activities, but there were also moments where Billy sat next to him on the couch and watched a movie with him, moments where Billy microwaved a bowl of popcorn for them to share, and more moments where they cuddled in bed before they fell asleep for the night.
And then on day three there was the kissing. Not the foreplay making out that he was used to, not the aggressive tongue wrestling that left his jaw sore the next day. No, these were soft kisses on the couch that ended exactly where they started. No hand gripping his wrist to drag him up the stairs. No trailing hands into his pants or up his shirt, just soft kisses that made him melt.
But the problem was, Steve was so focused on not getting attached that he couldn’t let himself enjoy it, because he knew that once the week was over, everything would go back to the way it was.
So by day five he started pushing Billy away. Turning his head away when Billy went in for a kiss, rolling out of his embrace while they slept, distancing himself the best he could.
And by day seven, Billy said it.
“Do you not want me here?”
It followed the probably tenth time Steve turned away from a kiss while he was doing the dishes, and when he says it, Steve nearly drops the plate into the sink.
“What makes you think that?”
“Don’t act all fucking dense Steve.”
And to that Steve actually did drop the plate into the sink with a loud clank against the metal bowl.
“Look Billy,” Steve starts with clenched teeth, tightly gripping the edge of the counter and his head bowed staring into the soapy water that filled the sink, “I know this is all going to stop at the end of the week, so just let me make it a little easier alright?”
“Why does it have to stop?”
“I’m not going to waste my time with someone who just wants to fuck and fuck off, I need more than that, and if you can’t give that to me-”
His phrase was cut short with the crash of Billy’s lips against his and the gentle tug on the hairs at the nape of his neck, and Steve didn’t turn his head this time, he just let it happen and tried to decipher what Billy was trying to say with the movement of his tongue that didn’t produce words, but said everything it needed to for Steve to kiss him back.
It was a kiss that said “I want more too.”
Monday rolled around too quickly. All those years of aching for Spring Break to finally end, now flipped on its head, desperate for it to be Saturday again.
The talking stick was in his hand, and he was reminded of all those years of having to answer with a simple “nothing” and a frown as he passed it back to the person behind him.
But it was 1985, it was a new year.
“Steve?” His teacher questioned, he was just sitting there, holding it in his hand. “What did you do for Spring Break?”
“Nothing.” he said.
But this time, he said it with a smile.

I got tagged by @allrightfine and I am constant trash for ask memes and constantly looking for a distraction, so here we are.
FIVE THINGS YOU’D FIND IN MY BAG 1) PENS. Eighty-two pens of various colors and working ability. Half of them are probably out of ink. 2) Credentials. I never take my credentials out of my bag because I will forget them and you don’t want to be that security guard when I’m trying to force my way into an event. 3) My phone charger. 4) A saweeeet Beauty and the Beast wallet that my husband got me when he preordered me the Beauty and the Beast DVD so I could have it the day it came out. Side note, he’s the best. 5) Seventy-six Dunkin Donut receipts. At least. The other day I didn’t order food at Dunkin Donuts and the drive-thru lady asked if I was feeling alright because I wasn’t eating.
FIVE THINGS IN MY BEDROOM 1) A giant blue blanket that is just...way too big for a normal human being that my parents got us for Christmas. 2) Baloo the bear. 3) More phone chargers. 4) We live in a studio so our whole apartment is kind of the bedroom so does the TV count? It’s going to. It’s huge and it took my husband an entire day to figure out how to hang it on the wall. 5) Just a ridiculous amount of signed sports merchandise. At latest count - Derek Stepan and Rick Nash signed sticks, a Mike Richter signed poster, a Victor Cruz signed poster, a Victor Cruz signed jersey and, it’s not sports, but a signed Hamilton poster by the OBC.
FIVE THINGS I WANT TO DO IN LIFE 1) Be a good person??? Is that lame? Whatever. I already wrote it. 2) Cover the Olympics. I will also take going to the Olympics, but getting a byline out of it would be pretty cool. 3) See something ancient so I can probably have some kind of life-affirming moment. 4) Do something with these several thousand pages of original-writing I’ve accumulated in the last year. 5) An apartment that has more than one bedroom and just a bit more square-footage and a cohesive decorating scheme.
FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY 1) My husband and my sister who are, like, my people in some stereotypical Grey’s Anatomy way. 2) The French section of Epcot in Disney World. 3) A really fantastic iced caramel latte where the caramel isn’t all stuck at the bottom and everything is mixed well and it’s probably also 75 and sunny. 4) Dramatic sporting events where the story just writes itself and I make deadline. 5) All-caps lock, flailing comments on fic that I show my husband.
FIVE THINGS I’M CURRENTLY INTO 1) The 90′s pop station on Pandora, where I am, somehow, still surprised I know all the words to these songs. 2) Sitting outside and writing. That’s kind of an always thing. 3) Trying not to have some kind of complete breakdown over work and this slightly-later-than-quarter-life crisis I just can’t stop having. 4) Didi Gregorious lifting up Ronald Torreyes after an Aaron Judge home run. Also. Aaron Judge. 5) The rewatch of The Office that my husband and I are doing. I cried when Jim and Pam got together. Again. Always. Forever.
FIVE THINGS ON MY TO-DO LIST 1) Setting up the printer we bought weeks ago so I can print out my story and edit it. 2) Caption photos, which is, just, the absolute worst. 3) Buy more workout clothes because I am absolutely that person who is addicted to working out. 4) Get a hair cut. It’s halfway down my back, but hair cuts are my greatest fear after that one terrible incident my senior year of high school. 5) Do the laundry. I’m so lazy.
Tagging: @distant-rose, @laurnorder, @stubble-sandwich, @wellhellotragic and you know, whoever. Tell me things about you, internet!

(739)ACTS 16- Paul and Silas hit the road. They are being led by the Spirit and are evangelizing large regions without a lot of money, organization or ‘corporate help’. Now, these things are permitted, but we need to make sure we are seeing this story right! Jesus imbedded a mindset into the Apostles, he told them ‘don’t think you need a lot of extra equipment for this. You are the equipment! No special appeals for funds [ouch!], keep it simple’ [Message bible- Jesus instructions when he sent them out by two’s]. So here we actually see the Apostles living the vision. Paul by the way has a vision! He sees a vision of a man in Macedonia saying ‘come and help us’. Luke writes ‘we took this as a sure sign of God sending us’. Wow, what childlike simplicity. The great theologian Paul, the man who could argue orthodoxy all day [and win]. He has a vision and says ‘we took it as Gods will’. Don’t develop doctrines that cut you off from God’s supernatural guidance. Sure, people have gotten into trouble with visions. Cults have ‘prophets and apostles’. But the church also had these things and it helped on the journey. Now at Philippi they convert a woman down by the river. They cast out a demon from a fortune teller. The ‘masters’ see they lost their ‘money maker’ and stir up trouble in the city. Paul and Silas get thrown in jail. They praise God and sing, an earthquake happens. The doors swing open. The jailer thinks they all escaped and is going to kill himself. Paul and Silas preach the gospel and he asks ‘what must I do to be saved’ they say ‘believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, your family too!’ The whole house gets baptized and the city leaders send word ‘tell them to leave’. Now, Paul is a lot like me. He doesn’t let stuff slide. He says ‘they beat us unlawfully, we are Roman citizens! Now they want us to leave secretly. Let them come and tell us publicly’ the leaders hear they are Romans and are worried. Paul made them squirm! Let’s do a little overview. We are halfway thru the book of Acts and we see the ‘churches’ as these free flowing believers carrying out the gospel. Baptisms and healings and visions. We also see doctrinal growth. We challenge the mindset of many evangelicals, baptismal regeneration is not taught [at least I don’t see it] but baptism in water is the immediate outward identification of the believer. In essence it was the New Testament ‘altar call’. Our Catholic friends will eventually develop an idea of baptism as washing away original sin. But sometimes we miss the other idea of putting off adult baptism because of fear of future sins. Saint Augustine, the emperor Constantine and others delayed their baptism thinking they would use it to ‘clean them up’ after any future faults. The doctrine of baptism in Acts is seen as an immediate rite that does affect the believer [as do all outward acts of obedience! Even the Lords Supper strengthens the faith of the believer]. But justification and believing are prior to baptism. But not two weeks or two years prior! But a few minutes. I also forgot to mention that Paul has Timothy circumcised in this chapter. The great Apostle Paul, who will eventually pen the words ‘circumcision means nothing, but a circumcised heart is what matters’ here he gave in. Paul and Silas are fresh off the recent Jerusalem council. They have been accused of teaching Jews ‘abandon the law and circumcision’. The decree from Jerusalem said the gentiles don’t need to worry about these things. But they were still teaching Jewish converts to maintain Jewish law and custom. Timothy was not circumcised, and everyone knew it! His mother was Jewish but his father was Greek. So Paul realized that the judiazers would eventually say ‘see, Paul is even teaching Jews to break Moses law’ so Paul gives in and compromises here. Do the restrictions at the Jerusalem council still hold sway over Jewish believers today? No. Paul will eventually abandon all Jewish law and custom from his doctrine of justification by faith. But at this stage they are still learning and growing. The mindset of ‘God’ in this book is one of ‘less restrictions’ and more acceptance as time rolls on. We see enough stuff on baptism to not call the churches who emphasize baptism ‘Cambellites/heretics’ [the term Cambellite comes from the founder of the Church of Christ/ Disciples of Christ groups. Their founder was Alexander Campbell. He falls into the restorationist camp. He saw the emphasis on adult baptism in scripture and many of his followers see the act of water baptism as the moment of conversion]. But we also see the basic ‘ingredient’ for acceptance as faith. So God is not excluding those who focus on baptism [Peters initial converts] but showing us greater acceptance among ‘those who believe’ [Acts 10]. This is what I tried to say in our introduction to this study. As we read we shouldn’t be looking for formulas or hard and fast verses to simply justify our churches beliefs against the church down the block. But we need to see the heart and mind of God. We also shouldn’t trace our peculiar belief to this historic church and say ‘see, our group is the most accurate one’. Why? Don’t I believe my idea of simple church is closer to the historic church? Yes. But the ‘church’ will develop in good and bad ways as the centuries roll on. The fact that many Catholics and Orthodox and future Protestants will grow and fight and reform, means the church herself has within her the inherent ability to ‘get back to the Cross’ or the reality of all of these groups believing in Jesus causes there to be a fundamental unity that exists because we all possess Christ’s Spirit. So even though I personally see the organic church in Acts, this doesn’t mean that I see the other expressions of church as totally illegitimate or lost! So let’s end this chapter rejoicing with the jailer who heard the gospel and ‘believed with all his house’.
VERSES- [below are the verses I taught- or quoted on today’s post- Acts 16] John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations
Acts 16:1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: Acts 16:2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. Acts 16:3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek. Acts 16:4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. Acts 16:5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily. Acts 16:6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, Acts 16:7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. Acts 16:8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. Acts 16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. Acts 16:10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. Acts 16:11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; Acts 16:12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days. Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither. Acts 16:14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. Acts 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. Acts 16:16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: Acts 16:17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. Acts 16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. Romans 2:25-27 For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? For we say, “FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.” How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised; and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them, read more. Romans 3:1-2 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God. Acts 15:1-19 Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” And when Paul and Barnabas had great dissension and debate with them, the brethren determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders concerning this issue. Therefore, being sent on their way by the church, they were passing through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and were bringing great joy to all the brethren. read more.

Acts 16:19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, Acts 16:20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, Acts 16:21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans. ACTS 16- Paul and Silas hit the road.
