Webb Unveils Dark Side

An international team of astronomers using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has obtained an in-depth inventory of the deepest, coldest ices measured to date in a molecular cloud. In addition to simple ices like water, the team was able to identify frozen forms of a wide range of molecules, from carbonyl sulfide, ammonia, and methane, to the simplest complex organic molecule, methanol. This is the most comprehensive census to date of the icy ingredients available to make future generations of stars and planets, before they are heated during the formation of young stars.

 This image from the telescope’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) features the central region of the Chamaeleon I dark molecular cloud, which resides 630 light-years away. The cold, wispy cloud material (blue, center) is illuminated in the infrared by the glow of the young, outflowing protostar Ced 110 IRS 4 (orange, upper). The light from numerous background stars, seen as orange dots behind the cloud, can be used to detect ices in the cloud, which absorb the starlight passing through them.

Blue period Drama club au

Yatora’s parents enroll him in private school, the basic secluded in the mountain/forest kind of one. But you see he’s last year, it was kind of an unnecessary hassle to change school so drastically when he was left with only one year until graduation…

Anyway, now he has ro live on the campus, bcs again, it’s a secluded school, he has hiw own room, he eats at the cafeteria, there’s a few stores with jusg the base necessities on the campus, nothing tol extra, just what they need to succeed. But you see there’s a catch with this school. Clubs are mandatory.

Yeah uniform makes sense, but clubs? Dude was in his last year of highschool and they expected him to join a club filled with strangers for just a few more months?? Why?!

And on top of that, all the clubs seemed focused on sports (basketball, baseball, martial arts, archery, even equestrian??? Horses there???) such clubs often aim for the nationals so they will undoubtedly expect a lot of effort yatora wasn’t willing to put in for such a futile goal. At that moment he should focus on his center exam and university entrance

Then there are thise science-y club, biology, chesmtry, astrophyscics, botany, entomology… again, too much effort for nothing. Gosh, even at his previous school, he wasn’t part of any clubs.

It breaks his head to think about it, useless useless useless…

However, hidden underneath a bunch of other posters, one, colorful and nicely crafted, stood out.

Arts club

“Interested, handsome?” He felt a hand beush over his shoulders. The person was tall and blonde. There were 2 more people accompanying them, but yatora couldn’t take notice of them in time. The blonde winked at him and said “come visit us,” before shifting on their heels and leaving him stunned behind. At that moment Yatora decided he wouldn’t be part of any club with that person.

Yotasuke takahashi. Doesn’t speak much, answers perfectly when teachers ask him, hm, he’s been around the school since early middleschool but no one seems to know him well. Right.

Weird school…

Afternoons are so lonely, everyone is busy with club work… maybe he should just go for that biology club. What do they even do, there’s already a botany and an entology separate club, so there isn’t much left, right? Nothing that’s too exhausting or disgusting like planting stuff and hunting bugs

But while on his way back to the classroom, the same blonde found him.

“Come, help us,” she’d say out of nowhere, without any chance for yatora to fight her on it, to oppose himself. She only draggzd him by his collar, on a hallway all the way through a door into a room that seemed way too small for the number of people present.

A tall male student speaking with teach saeki, she teaches literature… a few metters away while sitting on the tatami 2 girls were discussing some paper notes. And then, cooped somewhere in a corner on top of a bunch of pe mattresses… takahashi?! He didn’t even paid any attention to the scene, the boy was engulfed in his notebook.

Soon yatora was introduced to this bunch of unfamiliar faces, the tall guy was named Haruka, the two girls were Fumi and Maki and the obnoxious blonde was Yuka… and he was Yatora… and this was the… so called arts club.

The club was indeed small. Both member number and the room. Filled with all sorts of artsty things. For painting, for hanfcraft, sculptures to draw, kits to make their own sculptures, sewing and costumes… guess arts club is a fitting name

Haruka was a “historian” or something, he was passionated about it and always wanted to know more, besides, he somehow memorised everyone’s astrological birth chart? Maki was a sculptor, she liked to carve heavy rocks while her friend was more on the mainting side, paints were more her thing. Yuka herself was an actress, she liked to play around with costumes, to make and wear them. Once you put on an identity it’s easier to move around

However, all the while takahashi didn’t even adress yatora one word. He only glanced up once from his notebook to take notice of the ruckus and immediately turned back… talk about bad manners

The club seemed chill. The school didn’t care about arts that much ndno one was aiming to do something artsy after graduation, so they weren’t aiming anything big. Maybe this could be yatora’s club. Not maybe, it’s decided. He only needs to go there and spend time with them, not even that, he could do the same as takahashi and just sit in a corner and mind his business

By the time he was going back to his dorm he realised something. Takahashi was living on the same floor as him. How weird, yatora never saw him around.

As time passed, the club decided to do one last activity together. A theater play for the summer festival. They were the last members, no newcomers ever joined and after their graduation the club would be disbanded. It wasn’t always like that, yatora could see the portraits of the previous members… mori maru, graduated the previous year, murai yakumo, graduated 2 years prior…

The place was indeed calm and they didn’t care about extreme training, even when yatora was just a newbie in this kind of arts thing, again it’s not like he was in any clubs prior to this and his hobbies were pretty much to hang out with his friends

Everyone wanted to do something else after grafuation. Stuff like office jobs, everyone but one person.

Yotasuke was a jack of all trades artist. He could draw and sing. He could use his hands well and he could act. Despite his antisocial demeanour he could act????? And he wanted to be an art student at geidai after highschool.

Him and yuka were close friends, she was probably the only person he shared so many words with in that school. Aven weeks after yatora joined, yotasuke barely talked with him. After club, they would walk back to the dorm in complete silence. It was uneasy at first but Yatora got used to Yotasuke’s silence.

they decided to play hamlet by shakespeare (again they weren’t fancy or obscure, it’s not like anyone in the school cared abt their piece)

And a few days before the play, yotasuke got a cold that would affect his voice, so he stood inside his room to get better. And when yatora would go to check on him, that’s when yotasuke would allow yatora in for the firs time.

No words were exchanged, they only sat and looked at each other, but it was as if they had the most fulfilling conversation. As if they were both at peace, as if yotasuke finally took that stone off his chest and allowed yatora to be there. Allowed himself to be in the same space as yatora.

Following this, they would complete their theater play, the club would disband and everyone would focus on their exams and university.

Back in the city, yatora was reunited with his friends he couldn’t see at the boarding school, he went for an office job major in university, it’s not like he went to that club and it changed everything for him, it was a fun experience indeed

back in the city he was free, no more curfew, no more monitoring around the campus, or the guards around the entrance. And he could go and hang out with his other boarding school friends whenever he wanted. Especially that geidai student

Another summary of what i could write in like 5-7k oneshot (could also be like a 20-40k multichap series but that sounds exhausting) so i didn’t touch on everything i had in my head

Détection formelle d'un trou noir de masse intermédiaire

En 2006, une forte éruption de rayons X provenant d'une source nommée  3XMM J215022.4−055108 a été observée et attribuée soit à une destruction maréale d'étoile par un trou noir de quelques dizaines de milliers de masses solaires situé dans une galaxie lointaine ou soit à l'éruption d'une étoile à neutrons dans notre galaxie. Aujourd’hui, une équipe américano-française fait de nouvelles observations et conclue sur la première hypothèse, faisant de cette détection la première sans équivoque d'un trou noir de masse intermédiaire. Une étude à paraître dans The Astrophyscical Journal Letters.

Les astrophysiciens ont observé la source 3XMM J215022.4−055108 (J2150−0551) à la fois dans le visible avec le télescope Hubble  et en rayons X avec les télescopes spatiaux XMM-Newton et Chandra. Ce sont les images de Hubble qui permettent de distinguer la présence d'une galaxie lenticulaire distante de 247 millions d'années à l'emplacement de la source de rayons X. La source de rayons X se situe à la périphérie de cette galaxie dans un amas dense d'étoiles de 10 millions de masses solaires. L'origine dans la Voie Lactée par une étoile à neutrons est donc définitivement abandonnée. Et les données de XMM-Newton montrent une décroissance de la luminosité (mesurée sur une période de 12 ans) qui correspond à ce qui est attendu dans le cas d'un événement de destruction maréale, avec un disque de gaz résiduel qui serait encore dans un état "thermique", c'est à dire avec une luminosité qui évolue comme la température à la puissance 4. Ce type d'évolution est ce que les chercheurs appellent un "smoking gun" d'un trou noir accrétant de la matière. 

Dacheng Lin (Université du New Hampshire) et ses collaborateurs américains et français (de l'IRAP à Toulouse) viennent donc d'identifier formellement un trou noir dit de masse intermédiaire, ni stellaire (inférieur à 100 masses solaires) ni supermassif (supérieur à 100 000 masses solaires). Car la masse qui est déduite des caractéristiques de l'émission de rayons X observée est de l'ordre de 50 000 masses solaires et ce trou noir ne se trouve par ailleurs pas du tout au centre de sa galaxie hôte.

Jusqu'à aujourd'hui, seulement une poignée de trous noirs de masse intermédiaire ont été observés mais tous rangés au rang de "candidats". Cette classe de trous noirs est activement recherchée, car forme une pièce manquante de la grande famille des trous noirs. Ils sont surtout recherchés au sein des amas d'étoiles ou des galaxies naines mais sont très difficiles à détecter tant qu'aucune matière ne passe à leur proximité... La destruction d'une étoile qui passe trop près est le meilleur signal détectable de la présence d'un tel trou noir. 

Lin et ses collaborateurs pensent que le groupe d'étoiles dense entourant le trou noir massif J2150−0551, plutôt qu'un amas globulaire, serait le résidu du coeur d'une galaxie naine qui aurait été disloquée après avoir interagi gravitationnellement avec la grosse galaxie qui est désormais son hôte. 

Il est très important de mettre en évidence les trous noirs de masse intermédiaires car ils permettent de mieux comprendre comment les trous noirs supermassifs ont pu grossir de la sorte jusqu'à des millions ou des milliards de masse solaires. Les trous noirs de masse intermédiaires peuvent être des résidus des graines de trous noirs qui ont donné les premiers trous noirs supermassifs. Il faut donc comprendre comment se forment ces trous noirs de masse intermédiaire et si ceux que l'on peut observer aujourd'hui évoluent dans un environnement bien déterminé, comme des amas denses d'étoiles ou des résidus de galaxies naines, ce qui fournira des indices précieux sur l'histoire plus générale de l'évolution des trous noirs géants.
