icarus, the winged man (asteroid 1566)
Tumblr media
Icarus was the son of Daedalus, the infamous inventor of Greek mythology (i am sure we can all recall his invention that helped Pasiphae have sex with the Creatan bull? yea? remember that? well same guy lol). As some of you may know, Minos blamed Daedalus for the minotaur's existence then had him create the labyrinth. Later, when Theseus killed the Minotaur with the help of Ariadne, Minos's daughter, who gave Theseus the claw that Daedalus made - Minos was again displeased with Daedalus (the labyrinth was supposed to be inescapable and Theseus escaped WITH HIS DAUGHTER). Minos made Daedalus and Icarus prisoners in one of his palace's tower. Icarus was a young man - restless and wishing to see the world. Daedalus pitied him and wished for an escape himself so he made wings. Daedalus planned that they would fly away from this place and escape Minos. Daedalus's wings were made of feathers and wax - he taught his son to fly and warned him never to fly too close to the sun because the warmth would melt the wax and never too low else the feathers would get too wet and too heavy to fly. Together they leapt from the tower. Icarus had forgotten his fathers warning and flew too high, the sun (because he felt like a god with this invention) began melting the wax. As his wings fell apart, he found himself tumbling through the air and into the sea where he drowned or died on impact. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, this act is often referred as having too much ambition and falling prey to hubris. IN MY OPINION Icarus in your chart can represent a) where you are punished for your father’s wrongdoings, b) where you yearned to be free or travel, c) where in life you should be careful of being to ambitious or of your own hubris, d) your experience with flight, e) where you momentarily feel like a god, and/or f) where you ignore or forget a vital warning.
