Taken 2022 22nd January, this is a European crayfish (Nephrops norvegicus), or javskräfta, @evolutionsmuseet being displayed. I only say crayfish because it's internationally recognized, but if you were to talk to me, you would hear me say "crawdad". In Sweden, they were widespread in many freshwater habitats, especially in central and southwest Sweden. It was even considered a delicacy first among Swedish nobility, then to all classes due to it being abundant. Sadly, they are only found in almost 1000 scattered sites, more so in southern and central Norrland. The decline was caused first by crayfish plague, then by the introduction of the invasive signal crayfish from the US during the 1960s, which are a carrier of crayfish plague. It's not just Sweden, it's all of Europe where this species is in decline. Overall, the species is listed as Vulnerable, but in Sweden, it's Critically Endangered.
