The Irreplaceable Charlie Weasley: Pt. 3, Ch. 8
PART 3: THE YEAR OF QUIDDITCH & MAGICAL CREATURES Chapter 8 - A Very Nova Idea
Bill
A knock on my dormitory door woke me up. I groaned as I looked at my roommate who was still sleeping. I swear there's not a noise in the world that could wake him up.
I yawned and went to open the door.
“Charlie? Are you okay, why are you knocking on my door this early in the morning?” I yawned again.
“It's a beautiful Saturday and Nova and I were talking and you seem to be inside your room quite a lot lately, so we decided to take you down to the Lake.” He beamed at me. “Or drag you, you know, in case you wouldn't want to come willingly.”
I was surprised that my little brother noticed anything unusual about my routine when all he could talk about were Dragons and his Care of Magical Creatures class. However, I must admit I was rather touched that they were worried about me.
They were right about me being inside a lot. These days it seemed that the only time I left my room or the Library was for food or classes. O.W.L.s were approaching fast and I was getting more nervous by the minute! And as if that wasn't enough I had my Career Advice Meeting this Monday and I can't tell you how many nights I didn't sleep because of that and if I did manage to fall asleep I was dreaming that Professor McGonagall told me I would never be a Curse Breaker and that there's an open position as Filch's assistant and that I might get that job.
I would rather admit to my mother that I had a crush on Emily Tyler than be Filch's assistant.
“Hello! Bill, did you fall back asleep?” Charlie snapped me out of it.
“Huh, yes! I will go with you. Some air will do me good. Let me just grab my books.” I was ready to turn around and go to my desk when Charlie stopped me.
“No, books. You need a break, mate.” He grabbed my hand and dragged me down to the Common Room and through the Portrait Hole where Nova was waiting for us.
“Good morning, Bill!” She was wide awake and grinning.
“Hi, Nova. How are you?” I smiled back, though not as enthusiastically as her.
“The question is Bill,” she grabbed my other hand, and together with Charlie they started pushing me down the stairs and through the corridor, “how are YOU?”
“I...I'm fine.” I was beginning to get confused as to why they cared so much about my well-being all of a sudden.
“Oh, really?” Nova narrowed her eyes. “Did you know that I said hello to you yesterday at the Library and I didn't get as much as a sound back?”
“You did?” I couldn't recall that happening.
“Uh-huh. Do you know what that means?” Charlie spoke now even though I think he didn't have anything to do with the Library scene at all.
“That I was too deep in my studying to say hello?” I guessed.
“Yes, and it also means you need a break from it and stop obsessing over your Career Advice Meeting.” Nova added.
“Why do you care so much?” We suddenly stopped and they both turned to me.
“Because you're my brother and believe it or not, I do care about you.” Charlie frowned at me as if he couldn't believe I was questioning their motive.
“And you're my friend,” Nova spoke now, “you helped me with my Quidditch situation with Charlie and you have such dark circles under your eyes that even Tonks noticed and you know she's oblivious to these things.”
They didn't let go of me until we got down to the Lake. They placed a blanket on the ground and made me sit. Nova sat on my right and Charlie sat on my left side, making sure I wouldn't escape.
“So...” I scratched the top of my head. “What now?”
“Now, we are going to sit here in peace, and then you will tell us everything that is on your mind and all your worries.” Nova grinned at me.
“But why? I am fine, I promise.” I looked puzzled.
“You are not fine, Bill Weasley. Your roommate told me you barely sleep at night, that you have nightmares and that you keep talking in your sleep about being Filch's assistant and if that isn't a cry for help, I don't know what is.” I have never seen Charlie so in command. I was the one usually lecturing and scolding him for doing stupid stuff. And how did my roommate know any of these things if he was fast asleep every night?
“Okay, MUM!” I ruffled his hair and got punched in the ribs for mocking him.
“So, Mr. Weasley,” Nova corrected her imaginary glasses, her voice very official, “how is the studying for O.W.L.s going?”
“I am doing pretty good with Defense Against the Dark Arts. Penny started helping me with my Potions last week and we are having a study group for Charms and Herbology.” I rubbed my chin, trying to remember more subjects.
“Professor Kettleburn told me that I have nothing to worry about when it comes to his subject. But I haven't started with Ancient Runes or History of Magic or Astronomy or...” Nova must've sensed the panic in my voice as she put a finger on my mouth to make me stop talking.
“Bill, you still have time to study for your O.W.L.s!The fact that you did so much for so many subjects already is a good start. You're going to do fine.” Nova squeezed my shoulder.
“And what are you so afraid of anyway? You are smart and on top of the class in most subjects.” Charlie added.
“I know. But you'll see the amount of pressure this is when you get to your Fifth Year, especially since you two are like me and you know what you want to do already.” I tried to explain.
“How well do you have to do on your O.W.L.s to become a Curse Breaker?” Nova seemed to share my worry now.
“I will find out more in my Meeting with McGonagall, but I can imagine that I would need at least an Outstanding or Exceeds Expectation in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms and Transfiguration. I would have to do good in Arithmancy as well and in Ancient Runes and you do need both.” They were listening to me very attentively. I can't deny that it felt good talking about this with someone.
“Aren't that your grades already?” Charlie seemed confused.
“They are, indeed.” I said rather proudly. “Last year I got an O in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Ancient Runes, and Transfiguration. I got an E in Herbology, Arithmancy, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies, and Potions, thanks to Penny. And I got an A in History of Magic and Astronomy.” I counted on my fingers.
I looked at them and they both had their mouths open.
“How can you take so many subjects? How are you managing that?” Nova was perplexed.
“That is a secret between Professor McGonagall and myself.” This was true as she gave me a time-turner in order for me to take all the classes but she made me swear not to tell anybody, not even my family members.
They both narrowed their eyes in suspicion but decided to let it go.
“So if you have such good grades, what are you worried about?” Charlie still didn't seem to understand.
“O.W.L.s and final exams are not the same. Final exams only consist of what you've learned in that year while O.W.L.s have questions from all the past years. Besides, you can get tricky questions during the practical part of the examination and you have to think quick on those.” I explained.
“Bill, knowing you, you will ace all of these subjects like you do every year. I really wouldn't worry so much about it.” Nova bestowed me with a warm smile. “We might be the same in two years and you're going to sit here, giving us a pep talk but we just wanted to see if there is anything we can do to make this easier on you.”
“To be honest, just talking about it makes me feel better. All of my classmates are so busy studying and panicking like I am that we simply don't have the time to chat.” I admitted.
“See, that's why you have us, mate.” Charlie patted my back.
“Now, to a more interesting topic.” He smugged. “What's up with you dreaming about Filch?” Nova giggled at his question.
“Oh,” I blushed and ignored it, “what I am really worried about right now is my Career Advice Meeting on Monday. I know McGonagall will ask me what are my reserve options in case my O.W.L.s won't be up to Curse Breaking standard and I don't have another option. I wanted to be a Curse Breaker for a while and I haven't given much thought to other careers.”
“You have to have other options?!” Charlie was the one panicking now. I couldn't help but laugh. If anyone didn't have a second career option it was definitely him. He has been talking about being a Dragonologist since he could talk.
“I am sure you're going to do just fine.” I ruffled his hair.
“So you don't have a second option, perhaps McGonagall can help you with that.” Nova thought out loud.
“I guess.” I gave it a second thought. “It's just scary to think so far ahead and to think I could do good with my O.W.L.s and my N.E.W.T.s and then fail at my job interview is even scarier.”
“Grades aren't enough to get you the job?” Charlie's voice started to rise again in panic.
“Far from it,” Nova answered for me, “especially for Curse Breakers. They have tough training and a lot of newbies can't take it. My dad told me he was training them last year and he said that out of 20 they only took 4 of them.”
“Oh, sorry Bill, didn't mean to scare you.” She quickly added when she saw my frightened look.
“See, that's why I am panicking about other careers because despite having good grades I can still not make it as a Cur...”
“I have an idea!” Nova interrupted me. “Why haven't I thought about this before!” She stood up at once.
“What are you talking about?” Both Charlie and I asked.
“I can write to my dad and ask him if he has any advice for you to be better prepared when you have your initiation. That way you have almost 3 years to practice and prepare for your job interview!” She started walking towards the Castle.
Charlie and I got up, grabbing the blanket, not even bothering to fold it.
“Where are you going?” I asked as we caught up to her.
“I am going to the Owlery to write to my dad at once.” She smiled, being proud of her idea.
“You would really do this for me, Nova?” It warmed my heart to have such an amazing friend.
“Get off it Bill, of course, she would!” Charlie answered on her behalf.
We followed her to the Owlery where she wrote a rather long letter to her dad. She explained that I wanted to be a Curse Breaker and that I was panicking a lot about my O.W.L.s and the fact that I don't have a second career option, something I reckoned she could've left out of the letter. She told him all about my grades and she asked him if he has any tips for me and what can I do to start preparing for the job.
She carefully folded the parchment, took an envelope from her bag, which made me smile because I taught her to always carry a few in her bag, put the letter inside, and gave it to Pip.
Pip hooted excitedly every time he was given a job. We all patted him on the head and he was on his way.
I decided that Charlie and Nova were right and I should take it easy. It was only March and I had more than enough time to study and didn't want to get burned out so I decided to spend my entire day with them and their friends.
Funny enough Penny started nagging the lot about their exams the minute we sat down for dinner. I haven't the slightest what their grades would be if she wasn't so persistent all year round.
I even took the time to just sit in front of the fireplace in Gryffindor Common Room and stare at Emily Tyler and daydream about being her boyfriend.
On Sunday morning I decided to speak to my roommate about the fact that he knew so much about what's going on in our dormitory at night. It turned out that he was just as nervous as I was about our O.W.L.s and that he secretly studied when I was sleeping.
We made a pact to study together as we both needed as many O.W.L.s as we could get since he wanted to become an Auror.
The next day was the Career Advice Meeting day. I hoped that when McGonagall is done with me I will stop having nightmares about it.
I had breakfast with Nova and Penny and Nova hasn't received an answer from her dad yet. I then joined my classmates in front of McGonagall's office where we were called in one by one to have our evaluation.
“Mr. Weasley, I understand you want to become a Curse Breaker.” She looked at me through her squared glasses.
“Yes, Professor.” I nodded.
“Well if you do as good on your O.W.L.s as you are doing in your classes so far, I don't see why that couldn't be achieved.” Her lips curved a little.
“You would need,” she continued, “an Outstanding in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Arithmancy and Ancient Runes. Having an O in Potions wouldn't be so bad either but I can see that that is not your strong suit.” She was looking at the parchment with my grades on it.
“An E in Charms and Transfiguration would be very desirable, along with Herbology as it can come in handy.” She was now looking at me again. I was sitting still as a statue and my heart was beating faster than when I see Emily in the Common Room.
“If you get an A in everything else, you should be fine. Just try to get an O in Potions as Professor Snape doesn't except anyone below that level for his N.E.W.T. studies.” She stopped and pursed her lips. I still didn't move. I nodded, however.
“How about your other career options?” She sounded exactly as in my nightmares.
“That's the problem Professor, I don't have any.” I bowed my head. I knew she was going to be disappointed in me. I was a Prefect, had good grades, and was always well-behaved but didn't have a second career option.
“You know, Mr. Weasley, sometimes having just one option is the best option.” My eyes almost fell out as I couldn't believe her answer as it was completely different than the one from my dreams.
“I'm not sure I follow, Professor.” Was all I could manage in reply.
“When we only have one goal, we tend to focus more on it and will do everything in our power to achieve it.” She smiled warmly. “If we know we have another option, we might not put all of our attention into the primary goal as we know we have a cushion to ease our fall.” She did make a good point.
“I don't think I ever thought about it that way before.” I was being honest.
“Mr. Weasley, try to cut yourself some slack and get a whiff of fresh air here and there. You are one of my best students and I do not doubt that you are going to do just fine.” She smiled and gave me a little nod.
“Thank you, Professor. This helped me a lot.” I stood up, smiled back, and exited her office.
I don't think I could've shown it more that I was having a good day when I entered the Great Hall and sat down next to Charlie, Nova, and Tulip.
“Someone's in a good mood.” Charlie said with a mouth full of food.
“So how did it go?” Nova stood up from where she was sitting on Charlie's left side and sat down next to me and shook my shoulder.
“It went really well. McGonagall said I have nothing to worry about. Perhaps I could do a bit better with Potions but other than that I think I'm good.” I grinned.
“Eh, nothing Penny can't fix.” Tulip smiled.
“We told you you overreacted, mate. Really good news, though.” Charlie put his spoon down to pat me on my back.
“Speaking of good news...” I turned to Nova who was shaking as she couldn't wait to tell me something.
“Guess who came back today?” She said without waiting for me to ask what the news was. I rubbed my chin, thinking for a second who could it be. Then it dawned on me.
“Pip?” I asked hopefully. She nodded and pulled a letter from her back pocket and handed it to me.
I opened it and started reading.
My dear pumpkin,
there is simply too much information to discuss this over a letter.
I am in charge of the Internship Program we are having this Summer and if Bill doesn't have anything else planned I would be glad to put him on the list. The Internship is on me, so he needn't worry about paying as I would be glad to have him on my team and we can discuss everything then!
Defense Against the Dark Arts and Ancient Runes are very important so he should be focusing on these two subjects along with Charms and Arithmancy but I am sure he is already aware of that.
And a piece of advice: tell Bill to stop worrying too much. With the grades as you described, he is more than qualified for the job already and I am sure he is going to do fine. And besides, he is not only your friend he is also my best friend's son, meaning I will be sure to put in a good word for him.
If he decides to take me up on my offer for the Internship, he will already have an advantage when we pick our new Curse Breakers!
Send Pip back with his answer and say hello to Charlie and the rest of your friends!
I miss you my little pumpkin!
Love, Dad
“He...he is offering me a Summer Internship?!” I couldn't believe what I just read so much that I started reading the letter again.
“So, I am assuming Pip should send a yes back to my dad?” I looked at Nova, her head was leaning on her hand and she had the biggest grin across her face.
“Nova, I...I don't know what to say.” I was speechless. “Do you know what this means for my career?”
“I do! And you don't have to say anything! I heard about the Internship last Summer and was going to convince dad to take you in with or without your nightmares about being Filch's Assistant.” Tulip almost spat out her juice, laughing so hard, when she heard about my dreams.
“Thank you, Nova. You are an amazing friend!” I pulled her into a tight hug as I was lost for words. I couldn't believe she was already thinking of asking her dad to get me in for the Summer Internship. I don't recall anyone doing something so nice for me before.
Now I understood why mum wanted her in the family.

Exam Week
It's nearing winter break, which means it's time for exams. It's a stressful time for the teens, some more than others. But a simple act of kindness can make all the difference.
Chapter 1
"Right, I need you all to pay close attention to what I'm about to say." You state, all the teens staring at you with blank faces.
Your expression be comes firm, "Next week is exam week."
There were mixed reactions from the teens, some looked worried, while others didn't seem to care.
"As you know, I only wish for you to try your best." You declare, "And don't cheat!"
You make eye contact with Roman, since that comment was aimed at him. He made a smug face at you, before looking back at his phone.
"I encourage you all to study for your exams, but be sure not to overwork yourselves." You suggest, "If any of you have any issues, don't hesitate to talk with me. Ok, you're all dismissed."
The teens jump up and go back to doing their own thing. You head to your office, when you feel a hand tap your shoulder. You turn around, to see a very anxious Henry Deaver.
You sigh, "I know this week is always stressful for you, sweetheart. Come with me into my office and we'll talk about it."
Deaver smiles shyly, following you as you continue your way to the office. Exam was always hard for poor Deaver, he's a very smart boy, but doubts himself too much. When Deaver gets to stressed, he locks himself inside the iron cage in the shed, which you built for Pennywise. He almost missed a test last year, because he'd hidden the cage keys.
Chapter 2
You and Deaver entered your office, you gesture for Deaver to sit down, while you shut the door. You take you seat behind the desk, staring sympathetically at Deaver.
"Sweetheart, I would prefer for you not to lock your in the cage" You begin, "But if it helped you manage your stress, I will allow it."
"Hate exams." Deaver mumbled, "I'm not good at them."
"Henry Deaver, you know that isn't true." You correct, "You are a very intelligent young man. You just doubt yourself too much, sweetheart."
"Thanks, ma'am." Deaver mumbles, smiling shyly.
"Just let me know if you need any help with your studies." You offer, "Now run along, sweetheart, it's getting late."
Deaver stands up and heads towards the door. You look down at for bills as you hear the door close. You're about to start paying your bills, when you hear Roman's booming voice from outside the door.
"Out of my way, f**king bat!" Godfrey curses, clearly talking to Deaver.
Roman barges into your office, earning an unimpressed expression from you. You know that Roman calls Deaver a bat because he locks himself in a cage, but you still hate any form of teasing in your home.
"I heard that, Godfrey." You frown, "If I hear you call Deaver a bat again, you'll be grounded."
"Sorry, ma'am." Godfrey said, trying to look guilty.
"Well, what is it you want from me, Godfrey?" You ask, beckoning Roman to sit down.
Roman's expression changed to worry, which wasn't an expression you saw often. He turned around, checking if any of the teens were outside. The cost was clear. Roman took a seat in front of your desk, a self-conscious look on his face.
"Is everything alright, Roman?" You ask, concerned.
"I didn't want to say anything if front of the other teens," Roman began, "But I was wondering... if you'd help me....study?"
You smile, relieved that it wasn't something serious. Roman won't ask for help in front of others, but alone with you, he will ask you for help. Roman doesn't let any of the teens see his soft side, but you know, that deep down, Roman can be a kind boy.
"Yes, Roman," You answer, "I'll help you study. Tomorrow, when you get back from school, meet me back here and I'll help you study."
Chapter Three
The next day was Monday, which a day of practice exams. You spent the whole day reading through text books and old notebooks, to refresh your memory and prepare to help the teens with their studying. You sit in your office, when you hear the front door open. The teens come rushing into the house, most of them heading up to their rooms to study.
You hear footsteps approach the office, then the door swings open. "Afternoon, Godfrey." You say. "Have a seat."
Roman closes the door and takes a seat in front of your desk. He takes of his rucksack, places it onto the floor and pulls out his text books and notebooks.
"So, what topics do you need help with?" You question.
"Maths and English." Roman answered, placing the two notebooks onto the desk.
"Alright then," you say, taking the books into your hand, "What are you being tested on?"
"Well, creative writing is the English topic." Roman answered, "And indices is the Maths topic."
You smile, "Oh, that won't be a problem."
You start with English, which was ironically your favourite subject (You got an A+ for all your English exams). You see that Roman is struggling with meeting the word minimum. The word count minimum being 2000, and his narrative is only 1400. You're about 30 minutes into helping Roman, when someone knocks at the door. You walk towards the door and open it just a crack, just enough to see who was outside. You meet eyes with Gordon, who had a very stern expression.
"It's everything alright, Merkel?" You ask, being sure to show as little of your office as possible (To hide that Roman was in there). "Not really, ma'am." Gordon answered, reaching into his pocket. Merkel held out his hand, revealing the collection of house keys, you keep in the corridor. You count them and realise one is missing. You know exactly which one is gone. You sigh annoyedly, knowing exactly what Gordon was hinting at.
"Has Deaver locked himself in the cage again?" You ask, a worth's look on your face.
Gordon nods, "And he's hidden the keys, again."
You sigh in frustration, "Get the teens together in the living room, I'll meet you out there."
"As you wish, ma'am." Gordon answers, walking away.
You step back into your office, catching eyes with Roman.
"Deaver has locked himself in the cage again, hasn't he?" Roman asks, an unimpressed expression on his face.
You nod, "And he's hidden the keys again. Come and help me find them."
Roman rolls his eyes, but obeys you're command. He follows you, as you exit the office and head into the living rooms. All the other teens are there, all except Deaver. You stand in front of the teens, preparing to make an announcement.
"Right, Merkel, Godfrey, Bradford and Zeitgeist, search the back garden." You say, "And Nilsson help me search the shed."
Chapter Four
The teens jump up and follow you as you walk to the back door. You have a massive back garden, which is my you assigned so many teens to search it. You and Simon head towards the shed, while the rest of the teens spilt up to search the garden.
You push the shed door open, immediately seeing the glistening eyes of Deaver, locked in the cage. You're not mad at him, since he's not the only teen who locks himself away when he gets stressed. This is the reason you brought Simon with you, so you can keep an eye on him.
"You search the back shelves and I'll search the warehouse section." You say, glancing over at Simon.
You rush towards the small warehouse you have set up in the shed, since this is where the keys were last time.
"Sorry, ma'am." Deaver's voice suddenly calls from behind you.
"You don't have to apologise, sweetheart." You say, "You're not the only one who locked themselves away when they get stressed."
"Found them!" Merkel called from outside.
You're about to rush outside, when you hear Deaver start to cry. You turn around, seeing Deaver covering his face and sobbing. You sit down on the shed floor, reaching through the cage bars and gently grabbing Deaver's hand.
"I don't want to take the exams, ma'am." Deaver mutters, looking at you with his multicoloured eyes.
"I know, sweetheart." You say, "I was the same when I was younger."
"Exams made you anxious too?" Deaver asks.
"Oh, yes." You answer, "I used to lock myself in my bedroom, hoping something would happen to stop the exams."
A slight smile spreads across Deaver's face, which makes you grin as well. Merkel suddenly enters the shed, kneeling beside you and giving you the keys.
"You and the rest of the teens are dismissed, thank you for your assistance." You say, taking the keys from Merkel.
Gordon nodded in acknowledgment, before standing up and walking out of the shed. You place the key in the lock of the cage, twisting it clockwise and causing the door to open. You push the cage door, so it is wide enough for you to enter. You sit beside Deaver, gently stroking his face, comfortingly. He leans his head on your shoulder, tears streaming down his face.
"Do you think I'll pass the exams?" Deaver asks, looking up at you.
"Of course you will, sweetie." You say, "You just need to believe in yourself."
"I guess you're right, ma'am." Deaver agrees, "As always."
You smile, "Now we better get back inside, it'll be getting dark soon."
You and Deaver stand up and leave the shed. As you enter the house, you are surprised to see none of the teens are in the living room. Deaver follows you as you search the house, you eventually find all the teens in the library, studying.
Deaver walks away from you, grabs a book on mathematics and sits at the desk to begin reading. You hear soft footsteps approach you from behind, you glance back, catching the gaze of a freshly woken Pearl.
"Evening, ma'am." He says, politely.
"Evening, sweetheart." You answer, "Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah," Pearl says, "But I was woken by commotion from downstairs. Is everything ok?"
"Everything is fine now." You explain, "Deaver locked himself in the cage again, and hid the keys."
"Are the exams making him anxious, again?" Pearl asks.
"Yes, they are making poor Deaver anxious." You answer, looking over at The Kid.
Pearl leaves you side, taking a seat beside Deaver. He says something to Deaver, before hugging him comfortingly. You smile, loving when you see the teens comforting each other.
Chapter Five
By 9pm, all the teens were in bed, all but Pearl. Since you come school him, he has his first two exams tonight. You sit with him in the library, holding two exam papers.
"The first exam is mathematics, you'll have 1 hour to complete it." You explain, placing the exam in front of Pearl.
You see that Pearl is nervous, so you gently rub his shoulder, smiling.
"Don't worry yourself about it, Pearl." You say, "Just try your best."
Pearl smiles back, before grabbing his pencil and preparing to begin the exam. You check your watch, and when the clock strikes the next minute, you tell Pearl to begin the exam. You stand up, walk to the far corner of the library and sit down in one of the bean bags. You start reading a book you'd prepared for this moment, checking your watch constantly. At the 50 minute point, Pearl calls you, saying he's finished the exam. "Did you check through it?" You ask, standing up.
Pearl nods, "I've checked three times."
You grab the exam paper, quickly reading over it, before placing it in a binder.
"Do you want a break before you do the next exam?" You ask.
"Yes, please." Pearl answers, smiling thankfully.
You check your watch again, before resuming your reading. After about 8 minutes, you look up. Pearl has a pile of card stock rectangles, which he was writing a message on each individual one. You couldn't see what he was writing, since he was covering the message with his hand.
You check your watch, "It's been 10 minutes, are you ready to start the next exam?"
"Yes, ma'am." Pearl answers, gathering all the cards and placing them in his pocket.
You grab the next exam paper, "This one is History. You'll have the same amount of time, one hour."
You place the exam in front of Pearl, "And remember, just try your best."
You check your watch and again when the arm strikes the minute, you tell Pearl to begin. You stand up and walk back to the bean bag area. You resume reading, checking you watch often. Again, at the 50 minute point, Pearl calls you.
"I've checked it four times." Pearl said, as if reading your mind.
You stand up, taking a seat beside Pearl. You grab the exam and quickly read through it, before placing it in the binder.
"That's the exams done for the night." You say, "You did very well, sweetie."
"Thank you, ma'am." Pearl says, smiling.
Pearl takes out the cards and starts writing on them. You resume reading,  getting through 5 chapters, when you start to feel tired. You gently close the book, placing it on the desk in front of you. You look over at Pearl, who was face down on the desk, asleep.
"Come on, sweetheart." You say, placing your hand on Pearl's shoulder, "Let's get you to bed."
Pear slowly stirs, siting up and yawning. He gathers the cards and follows you as you stand and exit the library. You watch as Pearl walks up the stairs, but before he heads to his bedroom, he slides something under the bedroom door of each teen.
You don't think much of this, and just head to bed.
You awake at dawn, knowing that this morning is going to be stressful. You quickly get dressed and head into the kitchen. You make each teen an individual breakfast, consisting of their favorite breakfast food.
You lay the plates on the dining table, placing the cutlery and glasses along side them. You pour each teen a glass of organic orange juice, as well as a cup of water. The clock strikes 7am, and the teens begin stirring. You stand in the living room, watching as each teen exits their room and descends the staircase. "Breakfast is on the dining table." You call.
As the teens pass by, you notice they are all holding a small piece of card stock. You recognise the cards, they were from Pearl. You follow the teens into the dining room, watching to be sure they behave themselves. You walk behind each teen, checking if the need anything. As you walk behind Deaver, you see the small card on the table beside his plate. You lean over him, and read the message written on it.
Dear Henry D
Good luck for the exams Just try your best, and that will be more than enough
From Henry P
You smile, releasing that was what Pearl was doing last night, writing good luck cards for all the teens.
Chapter Six
1 week later...
The teens return home with a report card, showing the exam results. That night, your also write Pearl's report card, planning to tell all the teens their grades tomorrow morning. You place the finished report card on the des in front of you and start reading, when you hear footsteps approach the office, which were accompanied by sniffles and soft sobs. You stand up, rushing to the office entrance. You pull the door open, finding Pearl and Deaver approaching you. Deaver was crying, Pearl hugging him comfortingly. You could see that Pearl was anxious, but was trying to hide it.
"What's happened?" You ask, kneeling in front of the two teens.
"I caught him exiting his room." Pearl explains, "He says he was going to the shed."
Deaver covered his face and sobbed harder. Pearl rubs Deaver's shoulder, trying to calm him down.
"What's wrong, sweetie?" You ask, gently grabbing Deaver's arms and lowering them, so you could see his face.
"Th....the r...report" Deaver stuttered, "I know I failed."
"No, no, no." You say, "You didn't fail, sweetie."
Deaver looks up at you, trying to decipher what you were hinting at.
"I was going to tell you all your grades tomorrow morning." You explain, "But, I can see you need to know. Follow me."
You lead Deaver into your office, but before your shut the door, you turn to Pearl.
"You can come in too." You say, "I can see you're anxious as well."
You shut the office door once Pearl enters. The two teens take a seat in front of your desk, staring at the pile of report cards on the desk. You take a seat behind your desk, rummaging through the pile and finding Pearl and Deaver's report cards.
"Deaver, I'll start with your report." You say, opening the report card.
You read through the results, unknowingly changing your facial expression to surprise.
"What is it?" Deaver asks, fighting back tears.
"A+ for all subjects." You answer, "And the comment from the teacher reads: Outstanding work Henry, unbelievable intelligence for such a young age...However, I have once criticism."
Tears trickled down Deaver's face, as he waited your answer.
"You need to believe in yourself and be more confident in your skills." You answer.
"That's just what you said." Deaver mutters.
"That's because it's true, sweetheart." You answer, "You need to be more confident."
You look at Pearl, who was staring shyly at the floor. You see tears beginning to form in his eyes and drip down his face.
"Pearl, now it's your turn." You say, opening his report card.
"You don't need to worry, Pearl." Deaver whispers.
Pearl tries smile, but you can see he's holding back tears.
"Again, A+ for all subjects." You say, smiling."
"Really?" Pearl asks, "Are you sure that's mine?"
"I'm certain, Pearl." You answer, "I wrote your report myself, so I'm sure."
"Well done, Pearl." Deaver mutters.
"Well done to you too." Pearl answers.
"Now, get to be your two." You say, "Its getting late."
The two teens obey you, standing up and heading upstairs to sleep. You gather all the report cards into a pile, preparing for the morning announcement. You're getting tired, so you head to bed.
Chapter Seven
"Everyone in the living room, in 5!" You call, entering the dining room, alerting all the teens of your announcement.
You grab the report cards from in your office, then head into the living room. The teens were all sitting on the lounge, their faces turning to anxiety when they saw the report cards.
"For I read out these grades," You begin, "I just want to remind you all, that if you tried your best during these exams, I'll be more than happy with your grade."
You open the first report card, "Merkel."
A+ for all subjects.
You race through the other reports, being shocked to find all teens got A+ for all subjects. You see all the teens are happy with their grades, with the room's ambiance changing from anxious to joyful. You dismiss all the teens after all the grades are read out, you're about to head back to your office, when the voice of a teen calls your name.
"Ma'am..." Roman's voice calls from behind you.
You turn around, "Yes, Godfrey."
"I...I wanted to say thank you for helping me study." Roman answers, hesitantly.
You smile, "You're very much welcome. And I have to say, I'm very proud of you for getting such high grades."
A slight smile spreads over Roman's face, before he walked back to the living room. As you pass the stairs, you see the outline of Pearl standing at top of the staircase.
"What are you doing awake?" You ask, walking up the stairs and approaching.
"I wanted to know the grades for the other teens." Pearl answers, "It's so amazing that they all got A+."
"Well, a simple act of kindness, can make a huge impact." You say.
"You know about the cards?" Pearl asks.
You nod, "It was very kind of your to do that for all the teens. I believe those cards, were the reason all the teens got such high grades. A little act of kindness can make all the difference."

The countdown commences… one week to go before the royal wedding and no more hiding the marriage or the little Royal on board.Sexy and Liam were slammed with nonstop meetings with florist, the royal chefs, the bakers, reporters, photographers, every square foot of the palace was buzzing with excitement of the upcoming wedding.Sexy stood in front the antique floor length mirror studying her growing baby bump. She felt conflicted between excited and nervous about the possibility of someone learning about the pregnancy before they were ready.
Sexy rubbed circles of lotion on her bump,“hey there little angel… I see that your doing well...I know your there… your daddy gets such a kick out of watching you grow. I want you big and strong… even if I have stretch marks, it’s worth it in the end. I can’t wait to meet you, to bring you home to us.Daddy is a really important man but he will be always be there for you.”, she smiles as she feels her hardening belly.
Liam stood in the doorway to the bedroom face aglow from witnessing her conversation with their unborn child, “you better believe I am going to be there in every way imaginable”,he slid behind Sexy and gently wrapped an arm around her belly. “It’s amazing how much your beautiful belly has grown… I can’t wait to share our news with the world.I still can’t believe that we are responsible for making this little person”,he leaned forward kissing her cheek.
Sexy stared at their reflection in the mirror, “just the three of us”,she leaned her head back against his chest. “Liam.. we won’t be able to hide this little one for much longer”,she smiled.
Liam spun her to face him and dropped to one knee, “just say the word and we can make an announcement.”
“I can’t wait so I can breathe without worrying that a photographer will catch an angle of the baby”,she breathed out.
“Love I can see that moment coming soon… where we have our happily ever after. When we stand up there and say our vows before our country, it will be so liberating.”Liam stands and kisses Sexy deeply.”I love the sight of you bare with our little one. It’s almost the end of your first trimester and before you know it we will be learning if we will be having a little boy or girl.”
There is a quiet ping of a text message from an unknown number. The smartphone glows on a mahogany desk, a well manicured collects the phone, opens the message scrolling down:
Boss...we are all set to end this once and for all.The individual quickly taps out a response, “I’m sure It will be a …. blast.”
Constantine goes to meet with Liam to finalize his officiating the ceremony at the cathedral, “Liam so have you and Sexy decided if you want standard vows or vows of your own?”,he flippantly inquired.
“We are going to write our own vows and right now I am on my way out… we have a doctors appointment to get to soon.”,liam smiles. He neatly placed a stack of outgoing signed documents on the corner of his desk for his assistant to organize and have delivered. There was a soft knock on the door, “Come “, Liam quickly approved of the visitor to his study. He glanced up, smiled, “hey love… I’m just finishing up so we can get going to avoid traffic. Bastien already has the car pulling it around.”
Sexy wore a navy blue, apricot, and white crochet neckline tunic dress. Her eyes scanned the room and noticed king father sitting on the couch. “ Oh.. I didn’t realize you weren’t alone… I can wait in the car”,she felt uneasy being in the room with Constantine.
“Sexy…. it’s wonderful to see you. Your looking well.”, he shot her a felonious grin. Sexy felt the hairs in her neck stand up. “Yeah, thanks… you really don’t need to pretend for me. Don’t feel compelled to make idle chitchat with me in private.Lets not forget, you would prefer the blonde demon to be standing here in my place.”,she released an exasperated breath as she absentmindedly strokes her bump. Constantine lit up at the notice of her small belly, “The next generation of Rhys your carrying”,he boasted.Liam watched on as Sexy shifted uncomfortably before interjecting, “we’ll love… we can head out now… sorry to keep you waiting”, he gently kissed her cheek leading her out by the small of her back.Liam's blue eyes were shining when he flashed his million watt smile at his wife.
Constantine watched with a smile that quickly turned into a scowl. Liam showed his father out and locked his study behind them. “Sexy … Regina would love to get together for some tea with you before the big day.”, he acknowledged.
Sexy’s hazel eyes met his darkened eyes. “I’m not sure… I’m sure I’ll be busy up until after the wedding. I will get back to her”,she dismissed his invitation. She and Liam waved him off as they made a path to the grand staircase and Constantine left in the opposite direction,he watched on as they reached the front door. “So will we be having tea?”,Regina inquired. “Who knows, that piece of trash tried to blow me off… she’s certainly getting too big for her own good. She seems to think that she can speak to me however she’d like to speak.”
She clutched his arm as they surveyed the staff scurrying around preparing for the big day. Regina stood wearing a resting bitch face as she glared as the SUV pulled away.
Liam and Sexy pulled up to the medical complex a short time later , entering through the back door. Bastien opened Liam’s door to allow the king to exit, he then extended his hand to Sexy to guide her out. The nurse met them along with the doctor at the door bowing promptly. “Your majesties… so good to see you both again.” Sexy was given a gown asked to change to begin the examination.
“Liam… are you okay with all the sneaking in back doors to see our baby? I know this isn’t how you envisioned…”, he interrupted her thought.
“Sexy… I want to be here for you and our baby… no matter what it looks like. This is temporary… not for much longer will we have to go through these lengths. Once the announcement has been made, we can have the doctor and his staff examine you at the palace.”He smiled at her as she slipped back onto the examination table.
After several minutes the doctor and nurse came back into the room and began checking her vitals.Sexy was excited to see their baby on screen again.
The room fell silent while the doctor searched for that all important sound… little angels heartbeat. Liam’s blue eyes looked on intently flashing between Sexy’s hazel eyes and the ultrasound screen.Suddenly the heartbeat broke through the quiet. He released a breath he never realized he was holding in. He leaned down and whispered , “there they are love… in all proud glory.”
Sexy felt a stray tear cascade down the side of her face as she gently kissed Liam and smiled.
“Is the baby okay Dr.? Is the baby growing?”,she chimes in hoping to calm her fears.
“Your majesties… your baby is perfect. I’m sorry to make you feel the baby is not growing. Everything is excellent. The Oregon right on target”,he clapped his hands after completing his exam.
Later after making a next appointment, the couple left with Bastien in the blacked out SUV. The two celebrated the viewing of the baby… The suv sped up slightly halfway back to the palace. Bastien observed that they were being followed by another SUV. He inconspicuously made a few turns paying close attention to the tail as they followed behind.Bastien radioed to a member of the King’s guard the license plate number that he was able to make out. By this time Liam too had noticed Bastien’s actions and tried to conceal his reaction careful not to worry Sexy.
“Love.. we are pulling up soon to the palace. How do you feel about lunch and maybe a brief rest?”,she nodded. Sexy turned her body into Liam testing her head on his shoulder for a moment. “That sounds like a a wonderful idea my king”,she giggled.King Liam escorted his wife to the dining room of their private quarters where a spread of grilled chicken, asparagus, wild rice and salad were prepared for them.
They sat enjoying a pleasant conversation before Sexy became a little restless. She tried to hide her tiredness, “Liam… I believe I will take you up on that nap now. This little one has plans of their own.”, she smiled before standing and walking down the hall. Liam followed close behind, helped her with her heels and covered her with a cashmere throw. It didn’t take long for Sexy to drift off to sleep.
Liam quickly exited the royal quarters and commanded Bastien and the guards meet him in his study. Liam took larger than life determined footsteps until he reached the door. He unlocked his study and they filed in standing at attention.”Does anyone want to tell me what the hell that was back there? Why is there someone close enough to follow me and my Queen? This ends here… deal with it NOW. The royal wedding is a week away, everyone is to be vetted over and over. I need no stone unturned when it comes to this day and more importantly to my love. I want security tripled, no one is allowed in 50 feet of Sexy without me knowing what the hell they had for lunch in the third grade on a Wednesday “, Liam was seething. The guards nodded and Bastien dismisses them all to return to duties.
Before Bastien was leaving the king , he turned , “Sir You have my word that nothing will happen to your family. I may have contributed to delaying the two of you getting together by following my former King’s orders, but I will lay down my life to make it right and see to it that your both safe and happy my king.”,he became slightly moved by his words. Liam clapped Bastien on his back , I am trusting you with my family Bas...I cannot have anything happen to her”, his eyes glistened as he spoke driving home the need to follow through with her safety and cripple any foes that wish to bring them harm. Liam whispered to himself as Bastien left, “I will protect you my love, I will lay it down to keep you out of harm's way.

Winter has come to settle fully over the continent of Fódlan. Few people dare venture outside during the blustery month of the Guardian Moon, preferring instead to stay bundled near the fire with loved ones. However, the faithful are ever at work as the celebration of Saint Seiros’ birth draws near.
At Garreg Mach Monastery, a desperate plea for help arrives three weeks late, yet another facet of a rapidly devolving situation. Once again, the far reaches of Western Faerghus have erupted into chaos as the grain reserves set aside for winter mysteriously vanish into smoke. Accused of selling off their stores and even burning the supplies themselves, the local nobility have sent for the church’s assistance as they begin preparations to defend themselves against the commonfolk they swore to protect.
It’s only a matter of time before tensions break and these skirmishes between local militias and household knights turn into open warfare. With Fódlan in the heart of winter and the threat of civil war imminent, it is far too dangerous to send the students out as the Academy normally would. Thus, the decision is made to mobilize the Knights of Seiros and unaffiliated faculty:
Faculty and Staff Mission: Neutralize the rebellion!
Though the mission is labelled for the “faculty and staff,” this Mission Season is for all muses unaffiliated with the student Houses. So if your muse is affiliated with the Church of Seiros, the Knights of Seiros, the Underground Citizens, the Ashen Wolves, or Those Who Slither In The Dark, this is their time to shine!
Like always, threads using tasks from the Faculty and Staff board must contain an Unaffiliated character as a participant, but there are also non-mission tasks available to everyone without restrictions.
Faculty and Staff Mission Board
The late arrival of the distress call means that the knights are already in a losing battle against time to cross the continent to the far reaches of Faerghus. Of course, even the church’s most elite soldiers need to rest and your unit’s commander decides to stop in the middle of the Faerghus countryside. Help set up camp, assist with food preparations, or just bundle up with your comrades and grouse about the cold. The monastery’s dormitories certainly look luxurious now.
The village where your unit is staying suddenly erupts into flames, but as if circumstances can’t get any worse, water poured over the fire dissipates ineffectually into steam. One of the villagers points out a hooded figure wearing the characteristic mask of a dark mage moments before he disappears into the shadows. You have a choice: go after the arsonist, or seek out someone familiar with Reason magic to figure out a way to stop the fires. [Grants Reason +1]
It’s known all across Fódlan that Garreg Mach monastery serves the upper echelons of nobility, so a unit of knights bearing its insignia immediately draws scrutiny from the commonfolk. They accuse you all of sympathizing with the greedy lords of their land and, armed with nothing but pitchforks and torches, launch a guerilla attack against your unit before you can reach the village gates. Subdue the village militia! But remember: injuring them might not help your case.
Duke Ciaran, the lord who sent the original distress call to the monastery, has gone missing. Talking to the villagers yields painfully little information except an occasional “good riddance.” None seem too pleased that he got the church involved. Investigate his whereabouts.
Although paltry at best, the knights received some leads that point to a group of local bandits. Given the volatile situation in the village, it would be wise not to make too much of a scene. Borrow some of the commonfolk’s old rags and the woodcutter’s axe and infiltrate the hideout as “new recruits” to glean any information you can about the missing food stores. [Grants Axe +1]
NEW! A whole moon passes and Duke Ciaran’s whereabouts remain a mystery. Many of the villagers have settled with the belief that he finally got what was coming to him. With the riots subdued, the Knights of Seiros are prepared to pull out and return to Garreg Mach; however, the Goddess shines her light upon a barn long believed to be abandoned. Inside huddles a gaunt and dirty Duke Ciaran with his entourage.
NEW! The Valley of Ailell’s relentless flames have marred House Daphnel’s territory for what is said to be thousands of years. Though stories and songs only speak of constant death and destruction, those fearless enough to withstand the danger tell a different tale of fertile volcanic soils and neverending summers. The Church of Seiros’ call to assist the Kingdom of Faerghus has been heard by House Daphnel. A pledge to contribute their surplus wheat and salt pork is welcome news, but now the question is: how do you get all that food across a valley known for constant death and destruction? [Grants +1 Flying, Riding, or Heavy Armor]
Non-Mission Task Board
By mid-winter, the students at the academy are getting restless from being cooped inside for so long. The remaining faculty have decided to spice up the monotony by employing a few of the students to help them chip blocks of ice out of the pond. But there’s a twist: one participant will stand in the middle of the pond and work toward the outer edges while their partner works on the outside. Plan your blocks strategically so that the ice doesn’t give out and your partner plunges into frigid water. Didn’t expect a trust-building exercise, did you? [Grants Authority +1]
Although the birth of Saint Seiros was historically a humble celebration spent at home with family, recent decades have seen a rise in more colorful celebrations, to which the monastery is not immune. Go into town to see the shops decked out in their finest wares, visit the local candymakers for their seasonal peppermint sticks, or make your pilgrimage to the church to listen to the choir sing by candlelight. However you choose to spend your time, don’t forget to offer gifts to your loved ones so that they know how much you care.
Franzi Pans! ♪ Dressed from head to toe in yellow! Franzi Pans! ♪ Everyone in Leicester knows her! The Alliance’s most famous knight, found in the school–cause quite a fright!–but now she’s here, health’s in the clear, and now she’s come to say! ♪ “That hypothermia was nothing like what I faced in my 16th book, Holidays with Fraldarii Coarse! I’ll tell all in my seminar. For a fee, of course!” Professor Pans’ seminar promises sword tricks and book signings galore! But with rumors of stealing the credit of the real heroes that lived her stories flying about, are you really getting what you signed up for? [Grants Swords +1]
Garreg Mach Monastery is home to one of the largest greenhouse complexes in Fódlan, allowing the monastery to remain self-sufficient even through the winter months. Though the student-run greenhouse is home to a variety of exotic plants meant for research purposes, beyond the students’ view are greenhouses that primarily grow the food meant to feed everyone in the monastery. The Hands of Spring, the student gardening club, has requested volunteers to help tend the crops. Many of the plants here are familiar to you, though you can’t help but wonder why some clearly warn that they aren’t for human consumption...
Over the centuries, the people of Fódlan have come up with clever ideas to stay warm and entertained during the long, dreary winter months. One of the most long-standing of these is the annual Spice Festival. Visit the dining hall to partake in the chef’s spiciest creations to clear out your sinuses and warm you up from the inside out, or sign up for the pepper-eating contest to see how well you can withstand the heat. You might also catch some of the younger students furtively daring each other to scoop spoonfuls of unattended spices into their mouths. They claim it’s an ancient shepherd’s game, but you have your doubts.
NEW! Graduation for the Officers Academy is coming up soon, so the monastery grounds are bustling with students finding last-minute ways to study for their final certification exams. Grab a professor or another student for some extra lessons in a weapon weakness, just to make sure you leave the academy with a well-rounded education.
NEW! With the rise of the Pegasus Moon comes hushed whispers of a fabled spirit of love, Saint Valerie, whose said to inhabit one of the aqueducts below the monastery. She only appears once a year, but those who manage to find her and offer her a single swan feather are said to be shown the path to their one true love. Easier said than done though, since the aqueducts are full of monsters. Ready your fists; you may have to punch your way through. [Grants +1 Gauntlets]
NEW! Constant complaints of drafty wyvern stalls and leaky pipes on the pegasi end of the stables has finally given rise to action. Today, the stables will be under repair! Fantastic news, and the words “Extra Credit for Volunteers” allures you to the stables the next morning… where a veritable zoo waits for you. Overeager pegasi gleefully evade their handlers, hoping to fly into the distance for even snowier pastures. Miserable wyverns hole up in their stalls, burying themselves in warm straw and snarling at anyone who tries to get them to move. Hapless humans are falling behind on schedule as their attention splits between animal wrangling and barn repairing. Can’t you do anything to straighten out this situation?
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the divided task board work?
This season’s mission is assigned to the Unaffiliated Muses. Therefore, tasks from the ‘Faculty and Staff Mission Task Board’ must be undertaken by someone that is affiliated with the Church of Seiros, the Knights of Seiros, the Underground Citizens, the Ashen Wolves, or Those Who Slither in the Dark. However, they may choose to perform the task with someone who is not from their group as well. In logistical terms, this means that if you play a non-Unaffiliated muse and want to do a mission task, you must ask someone who plays an Unaffiliated muse to thread with you. All thread participants will still receive any skill point rewards.
Tasks from the ‘Non-Mission Task Board’ have no house restriction and can be undertaken by anyone.
These aren’t the only threads I can do, right?
Of course not! These are just prompts to help give some ideas of possibilities. You’re always free and encouraged to make up your own threads.
How do I claim the skill points?
In order to qualify for the skill point, the thread must clearly allude to the listed task and preferably feature the task being completed. You do not need to message the masterlist to claim your skill point.
Can I only do one task?
Nope, you can do as many as you’d like with as many different partners as you’d like! You can do the same task with more than one person! However, you can only claim any skill points once.
What if my partner leaves or drops a skill point thread?
If the dropped thread has at least 5 notes (not counting likes, only reblogs with replies in them) and you have hit at least 400 words on your end, you may still claim the skill point.
Remember to use (and track!) the #toa open tag for any open threads, and you can also post a link to your open thread on the appropriate Discord channel! If you have any other questions or concerns, shoot us a message through the masterlist or on Discord!
