She is seen displaying at the collection’s 2022 Season Premiere Air Show Old Warden, Bedfordshire, UK 1st May 2022 The following information is from a previous version of the Shuttleworth Collection website:- In 1910 the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company at Bristol imported a Voisin designed Zodiac biplane from France with the intention of building similar aircraft under licence in England. Although superbly finished the aeroplane was never flown successfully and plans to build the design were abandoned in favour of a greatly improved version which had been developed by Henri Farman, an Englishman living in France. The new Bristol machine was an unashamed copy of the Farman but rather better built so that when the Farman company solicitors threatened to sue a defence claiming substantial improvements ensured that no court proceedings took place. Following trials with alternative power plants, the 50 hp Gnome rotary engine was adopted and the aircraft flew successfully from Larkhill in July 1910. The Bristol biplane soon gained the soubriquet and equipped the newly formed flying schools at Brooklands and Larkhill. Later, in December 1910, four were shipped in pairs on air missions to India and Australia . However, the first order from overseas was placed by the Russian Government for eight Boxkites and they were delivered to St Petersburg in April 1911. These aircraft,military versions, had extended upper wings, three rudders, enlarged fuel tanks and more powerful 70 hp Gnome rotary engines. The Boxkite was issued to the Royal Naval Air Service in March 1911 and to the Larkhill based Army Air Battalion the following April. Some seventy-six Boxkites were built, which was a large number for the period. However, they proved cumbersome to fly and, by 1915, the majority had ceased to operate. This aeroplane is a reproduction built by F. G. Miles Engineering Ltd in the 1960s for the film Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. As no original Boxkite exists, the Bristol Aeroplane Company acquired it and placed it in the care of the Collection for preservation. In 1989 the aircraft was modified to improve a number of handling characteristics and is now powered by a Rolls-Royce Continental four cylinder engine of 100 hp. (The greater power of the modern engine is cancelled out by the smaller, higher revving modern propeller which, perhaps surprisingly, does not provide the same thrust as the seemingly lower powered 1910 design.) It flew again in 1992. Like the Blackburn Monoplane, its flying activities are subject to calm weather on public displays.

Estruturas de PSP e GNR dizem que relatório da IGAI confirma alertas

As principais estruturas sindicais da PSP e GNR salientaram ontem que o diagnóstico de falta de efetivos e recursos feito pela Inspeção-Geral da Administração Interna (IGAI) confirma os alertas dos últimos anos e pedem mais ação ao Governo.

Em reação ao relatório hoje divulgado pela entidade que fiscaliza a atividade das polícias, o presidente da Associação Sindical dos Profissionais da Polícia (ASPP), Paulo Santos, e o presidente da Associação de Profissionais da Guarda (APG), César Nogueira, assumiram não terem ficado surpreendidos com as conclusões e defenderam ser o resultado de anos sem o investimento e a execução orçamental necessários face às carências.

"Em termos de efetivos, de condições e de instrumentos é tudo muito fraco. Achamos bem que este relatório tenha saído e evidenciado aquilo que a ASPP tem vindo a dizer há muito tempo: um conjunto de situações que, a cada dia que passa, se complicam; um aumento de missões da PSP sem que haja os recursos necessários; e que é preciso perceber se este Governo vai dar seguimento através de opções políticas concretas", disse Paulo Santos à Lusa.

Considerando que, neste momento, "as esquadras não estão a funcionar", o líder da ASPP apelou a "passos concretos" do executivo com vista a "construir um caminho" que eleve a dignidade das carreiras e das condições de trabalho da Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), questionando o que foi feito com as verbas anunciadas no passado para a requalificação de estruturas e recursos.

"O [anterior] ministro José Luís Carneiro falava muitas vezes de um investimento de 607 milhões de euros para recuperar estruturas e equipamentos. Agora, perguntamos onde está essa evidência e o resultado desses anúncios", afirmou, continuando: "Este Governo tem condições neste momento para colmatar os erros praticados pelo último Governo. Parece-me evidente".

Já César Nogueira lembrou a lei de programação de infraestruturas e equipamentos para as forças de segurança para pedir uma maior taxa de execução das verbas, manifestando ainda preocupação com a falta de manutenção das instalações, a degradação "flagrante" do parque automóvel da Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) e a falta de efetivos que deixam postos sem capacidade para ir além do atendimento ao público.

"Só acontece por ao longo dos anos haver um fraco investimento nas forças de segurança, nomeadamente para esse tipo de situações que são básicas para o bom funcionamento. Mesmo existindo a lei de programação, ainda fica muito aquém daquilo que deveria ocorrer... É orçamentado um valor todos os anos e a execução anda à volta dos 45%, em alguns anos até mais baixo. Há muito a fazer", vincou.

O presidente da APG defendeu que o adiamento da resolução destas questões pode tornar-se ainda mais oneroso para o Estado no futuro, pedindo uma resposta mais efetiva do Governo.

"Sabemos que não se resolve de um dia para o outro, até porque foram longos anos sem investimento. Já existe uma lei que prevê verba e que prevê ser feita mediante as instalações... Depende do Estado fazer esse investimento, agilizar aquilo que está na lei e executar o que está programado ano a ano. Se executarem, essas questões vão reduzir-se bastante", concluiu.

O relatório da IGAI sobre inspeções sem aviso prévio visou 63 instalações das forças de segurança em 2023 (42 a postos territoriais da GNR e 21 a esquadras da PSP).

O âmbito de intervenção da IGAI, que anualmente realiza estas inspeções, contemplou as condições de atendimento ao público, de trabalho dos elementos policiais, zona de detenção, intervenção no âmbito da Lei Tutelar Educativa, da Lei de Proteção de Crianças e Jovens em Perigo e da Lei de Saúde Mental, reclamações de cidadãos, estatuto da vítima e guarda de armas, protocolos de segurança e acondicionamento e selagem dos bens apreendidos.

The Member Programs of the ASPP

Established in 1980 as an affiliate group of Adelphi University's Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology Postgraduate Training Program, the Adelphi Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (ASPP) comprises program graduates, candidates, faculty, and administrators.
