IM WORKING ON a different fic SOMETHING ELSE RIGHT NOW BUT I HAVE THIS DRABBLE ABOUT HAND HOLDING THAT HAS BEEN LYING AROUND ON MY DRIVE SINCE CATCH AND RELEASE SO HAVE THAT.

“Shouldn’t you be holding my hand?”

Pearl pauses in opening the screen door they are about to walk through and regards the younger gem with an odd expression. It’s true that they were going out into town to pick up food for Steven and it is true that Pearl had kept a grip on the smaller gem’s hand during previous trips to town or to the barn. But Peridot isn’t exactly not their prisoner anymore, keeping her on a leash, proverbial or real, felt a bit unneeded.

“I don’t know what Steven told you but holding hands isn’t actually a good way to keep tabs on someone. If you tried anything I could handle it without physically restraining you. And to be completely honest I don’t really believe you’ll try anything; you’re too smart to not see the odds of it working out are entirely out of your fav- what? Why are you making that expression?”

Peridot turns a cool shade of blue creeps from her cheeks to her roots, almost as if she’s embaras-

“Are you afraid of going into town?” That at least would make some sense. Pearl couldn’t account for how much Peridot had interacted with humanity during her time on the run but since coming to live in their bathroom her contact with humans had been minimal. 

The small gem refuses to meet Pearl’s eyes, instead looking intently at the screen door but she’s clenching her fists to her sides and clenching her teeth. “It’s not.... I’m not!”

Pearl just blinks, not understanding. The other times they had ventured out Peridot had clenched her hand so tightly it would have hurt had she been human. If she wasn’t afraid then why-

Oh.

“Can I…” Peridot starts as if asking put her in actual physical pain, as if it was the last thing she wanted to voice but felt compelled to do so anyway. “Can I hold your hand?”

It takes a moment for Pearl to string together the facts. Peridot wanted to hold her hand. Peridot wasn’t afraid of going into town and still wanted to hold her hand. Peridot wanted to hold Pearl’s hand because she liked holding her hand.

In the face of something so genuine and shocking one dare not refuse.

Pearl holds out her hand and watches as tiny fingers, so much smaller than her own, curl around her own digits. She watches as the blush doesn’t leave Peridot’s face but a small, almost unnoticeable, sigh of contentment escapes her throat.

Huh. Peridot was a bit of a love sponge, who knew?

“Well, lets get this over with so we can get back to the drill.”

Pearl can’t hold back her smile as she squeezes her palm against Peridot’s. “Alright. Let’s go.”

Heya! Pearlidot is somehow Meh to me...im a Lapidot trash by heart (and Amedot to some extent, tho i see them more as bff’s than anything else.) Altho i can ship Lapis with Pearl, i can’t do the same with Peridot... “:c

Im really glad you enjoy my art! And even though im currentl hitting a hiatus due to recent switching of appartments and facing finals @ university, i hope you stick around for when im back on track. c:
