This book is a must read for everyone! So many important conversations sprang to mind reading this book, the inequality and lie of “the American Dream”, laws that are racist in nature by targeting people of color, mass incarceration, lack of diversity in the workforce, gentrification, and racism that has become as much a part of our culture as apple pie and Starbucks coffee. All of this and a funny and nail biting story that will keep you turning pages as fast as possible to see what happens next! Out now!

📖 💭 Bookish Thoughts 💭 📖 . . T: Black Buck . . A: Mateo Askaripour @askmateo . . Hmmm 🤔 Where do I start? First let me say Zeno Robinson (narrator) did an AMAZING job! He nailed it and he kept me really engaged. Zeno’s narrating literally made the words jump off the pages of this impactful novel written by Mateo. I want to say so much about Black Buck without giving too much. This book is definitely a page turner and it does exactly what it’s suppose to do evoke many different emotions and make certain people uncomfortable 🥵. BTW Rhett is my least favorite character, (YES, I said it my DMs are open if you want to argue lol 😂) I just wanted to throw that out there! The twist in the ending I definitely wasn’t ready for. Darren definitely didn’t deserve that, I really felt for him even though he did a lot of things when he was he lost but when he started finding himself again. He gets pushed right back down. So sad 😞. This is a great read I definitely recommend this book but I do have to forewarn you, you will suffer some side effects reading this book. Side effects includes a little Tourette, hysterical laughter, and at times you will find yourself throwing this book across the room. I often fell in the same trap because I knew nothing different. . So many become a product of their environment early on in life. . Do any of these sound familiar: . When I head off to college, out of my parents house, then I’ll be happy. . When I land my first job… . Make more money... . Buy my first house… . Start my own business... . Drive a nice car... . Get married… . Have kids… . When the kids are grown and out of the house… . When work slows down… . When work picks up… . When I get In better shape… . When Im able to travel more… . When I retire… . Then, I’ll finally be happy!!! . That’s all bullshit! . Stop waiting for something or someone to “finally” make you happy. It doesn’t work that way. . When you start to attain these “things”, you realize that they may bring temporary joy, not sustainable happiness. . You’ll look back and realize that the best part wasn’t the end result, but the journey, experiences, and lessons learned along the way. - Don’t be foolish and miss out on that. . Happiness starts with being grateful for the people, things, and opportunities that already exist. . It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive for more, desire bigger and better. Just the opposite! 🔥🔥 READ ON! 🔥🔥 . A friend shared his experience of competing in one of those extreme obstacle course races. . 16 grueling miles set on a 8000+ ft vertical mountain. . Everywhere he turned, there were runners dropping to their knees, puking, and bowing out of the race. . Not even half way through, his legs were cramping, calves burning, and it took every ounce of energy to take each step. . Doesn’t life feel that way sometimes? When you’re faced with a long tough road ahead, feeling burnt out and not even half way to where you need to be. . It’s natural and in a sense, good to feel this way. We’re all human. If you’re pursuing anything worth while, these feelings and experiences are part of the journey. . I was impressed that he completed the race and even finished in decent time. . But I was really interested in understanding the mindset that overcame the pain, mental exhaustion, and that ultimately ended with victory. . I came away with a few powerful points. . He never thought once about giving up and quitting, it never even crossed his mind. . That having support (his brother in this case), taking the journey and competing in the battle with him, kept him motivated and accountable to not only himself. . Never feeling distracted by the miles remaining or the obstacles that await. He kept his head down and just focused on the very next steps ahead. . Key take aways: . 🔥Never think about giving up and quitting, ever!!! . 🔥Find a support person, team, mentor, coach, that will hold you accountable, provide direction, support, encouragement and a kick in the a** when necessary. . 🔥Don’t get intimidated with what awaits, just keep your head down and focus on the next steps ahead. .
