It’s called 麻辣, which means something like “numbing spicy” — the same kind of 麻 that describes the feeling in your leg when it goes to sleep. The little balls are cute but you have to eat carefully to avoid them, which apparently westerners aren’t good at. Anyway, 麻辣 is differentiated from regular 辣 because it’s a different kind of spicy.

I just want to let you know I read your whole Children’s Crusade series after you linked it to that one JC post, and it’s really amazing! It does a great job filling in some of the gaps from canon and then taking it to new places. I’m really interested to see where you’re going with XuanLi, because poor a-Xuan is so… himself and Yanli is just amazing and I need him to realise that immediately.

heya i just finished wandavision last night and plan on watching fatws and loki next, do i need to follow any particular order? wandavision was a masterpiece btw, glad your posts convinced me to watch it

I'm also glad my posts convinced you to watch it! unfortunately im a filthy casual right now, and only watch marvel stuff that really scratches personal itches (i.e. storylines i liked in the comics) so I have not watched either fatws OR Loki. It is to my understanding however that they do not need to be watched in any particular order

it’s tragically not posted yet! im, unfortunately, really into it, like putting so much effort into it, like spending all hours thinking about it and then spending more hours writing it. so im not posting it until the whole thing is finished so I can really go to town on editing. im halfway through chapter 4 of 5. it’ll be the next thing i post on ao3, so feel free to subscribe to me there, and then unsubscribe as soon as I post it if you want

Lan Zhan stands on top of a nearby car, face like a glacier. Watching.

“Oh…” Wen Ning wilts a moment, and then squares his shoulders. “The witch got away…you could catch up to it, if you left now.”

Lan Zhan doesn’t move. “I have business here.”

Wen Ning’s hands twitch at his sides. But then he exhales, low and slow. “…Do you want to fight? I don’t want to, right now. You can see it’s not a good time for that, can’t you? It won’t be over fast, if you think I’d be easy to beat. I may not look it, but I’ve defended my territory before.”

Wuxian looks back and forth between Lan Zhan and Wen Ning, all the hair on his body standing on end. He feels...he feels like he’s walked in on two predators squaring off. Worse, he feels like he’s the prey that they’re quarrelling over!

“Who’s fighting?” Wuxian interjects loudly. “Just what’s going on here? Who says anyone’s fighting?”

“He’s the one that hurt Kyuubei,” Wen Ning says evenly. “Kyuubei is dear to me.”

And now Wuxian feels…strangely at odds. He’s known Wen Ning since the start of the school year. Sees him as practically a little brother. And this... stuffed animal thing is definitely hurt, and was definitely calling for help. And all signs point to Lan Zhan being the one who was attacking.

So…Wuxian should like…hate or be mad or scared of Lan Zhan or something, right? Since he hurt this adorable thing that’s dear to Wen Ning.

But Wuxian doesn’t feel angry or scared. He’s just…confused. He’s just…standing at some sort of edge, staring at some sort of puzzle missing too many pieces. Wuxian looks at Lan Zhan, some sort of impulse compelling him to search his face for answers. But there’s nothing there but cold, immovable marble.

“A fight may be inevitable, if you’ve moved here for good,” Wen Ning continues. “But now isn’t a good time. I think we can agree on that.”

Lan Zhan’s nostrils flare. He lifts his chin.

And turns away.

Wuxian sees the tail end of an expression, a flash of pain across Lan Zhan’s face, and then he only sees Lan Zhan’s back. And then, nothing at all, as Lan Zhan melts into the shadows and out of sight.

Re: lawful good paladin... What gets me about wangxian is that their love is, at least partially, founded in their shared sense of justice. I swear in cql you can see the exact moment LWJ falls in love, when he hears WWX's oath during the lantern lighting. I don't think LWJ would let love be more important than good/justice, but he doesn't have to, because he believes in WWX's sense of justice. Just maybe not the methods.

I don’t know if you wanted a response to this, but re: my belief in LWJ going chaotic neutral rather than chaotic good, and holding love over good/justice...that is in part inspired by the novel, and I’ll admit to that. novel!wwx absolutely killed a bunch of people and shows little to no remorse about it, absolutely lost control and did many crimes, and LWJ flat out doesn’t care about that? his love for wei ying trumps all. novel LWJ absolutely goes from lawful good to chaotic neutral 

show LWJ I think you’re right to read him as always remaining ‘good’ aligned and you’re probably right that he wouldn’t let love be more important than good and justice, because justice in the show is wwx being framed and not actually being at fault, and so standing with wwx is still justice and good-aligned....but still...it might be the novel’s impressions, but I just vibe him as chaotic neutral. i have no good reasons. i think it might be the arm thing. LWJ as lawful good had xue yang handed over to authorities to answer for his crimes. LWJ later cuts off arms like it’s his new past time. I know! this isn’t a good reason. but hash-slinging slasher jun cutting off xue yang’s arm, JGY’s arm, su she’s hand....it just vibes to me like a more vindictive, personal action that feels more chaotic neutral than chaotic good. sdfkdlkfds Jin Ling diving in front of Jian Cheng terrified that LWJ’s going to hurt his uncle for yelling at wwx...like he really was afraid LWJ was going to add another arm to the collection

to be clear, these reasons are arbitrary! absolutely show LWJ is probably still justice-aligned, and swings from lawful good, to chaotic good, back up to lawful good once he becomes the law.....but in my heart, he’s chaotic neutral, like his novel counterpart.
