Ok so, let's talk a bit. This blog is going inactive

Hi, this is probably the last post and activity of this blog. As you already know, it has been inactive for a long time and some questions have not been, nor will they be, answered.

At first it was lack of time or activity of the mods of this blog; honestly, on my part, I wasn't feeling with the desire of drawing the answers to the questions. As time passed, there was simply no interest anymore but between us there was never a "yeah stop the thing", adding a little that some mods are no longer into the msm community and on the other hand controversy (I will not go into more detail).

I, mod boodoo (HexoToner), decided by myself to atleast give the announcement this is not active anymore, at least to clarify doubts and ensure that the questions will never be answered (Surprisingly there are still people asking).

The blog won't be deleted.

I think that's all, this was a project I expected to go into more, there was lore planned too, but yeah- didn't happen.

Amusia Concept (Cannibalism TW)

Still late, but thankfully at 10pm. So yeah, not in the am yet. (I need sleep). Anyways, Amusia is a MSM horror AU about a second cataclysm. But wait, how did this happen? So there is confusion amongst the colossal and Titans, as they are still wondering why the Celestials integrated the natural colossal (and Zarroë) with the magical Titans. Grennech and Zarroë view the magical titans (and the magical monsters) as a threat and want them exterminated, Frigil does not trust them but won't complain about them, Hyddryd and Sollum are neutral, and Dulcettéa wants to help them. Zarroë attacks the magical Titans, therefore causing disorder in the monster world. As the colossals had been isolated for so long, they are stuck in their own ideologies, and a war between them starts. Therefore, a second cataclysm starts.

Only this time, it's worse.

You see, the Colossals have forgotten how to sing once again, but now it's affecting the monsters too. Without their song, some of them lose sight of who they are and go insane. Some of them are so manic that they have no idea of the atrocities they are committing, others are purely out for blood, and the worst ones are the cannibals. They are constantly on the hunt and will indulge in whatever prey they can find. They seem to be physically affected by this too, seeming to feel constant hunger with no way to satiate. Davy, unfortunately, cannot turn off his mind-reading abilities, so he is constantly listening to the delirious thoughts of others who are either terrified or gone. Sometimes even he wonders if he'll protect himself from this deadly mind virus... Feel free to ask me about some of the pre-Amusia lore, and the dynamics between characters! Bear in mind that I will not give super complex answers, as I want to avoid spoiling as much as possible! Reblogs appreciated! I hope this doesn't flop...

Anyways, this one is about the basics of modern monster society

Firstly, all monsters are species, expect for Legendaries and Celestials. Wil touch more on those guys in a different one prob.

However, the epic variants of some species, like Kaynas, are so rare that there’s often only one existing at a time. Each species has anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand individuals, with the amounts of rares varying between species.

Like the monster handlers said that one time, the islands are waaaay bigger than they appear in-game. Most monsters on each island live in the castle, and inside it’s like a luxurious hotel/apartment building, with rooms of various sizes for everyone and various public spaces. However, a few might live outside the castle in other buildings, usually when there’s no room left for them.

They don’t sing all the time. They actually only do the song once or twice a day depending on the island, and also depending on the island is the time they do it. For example, Cold Island prefers to do it the moment the sun sets, Plant Island in the middle of the day when it’s warm and sunny, ect, just whatever time fits the vibe of the song.

Monsterlings do go to school. They learn the usual stuff, math, writing, history, but there’s also a lot of emphasis put on learning about as many species as possible.

There’s no defined ‘ruler’ of any of the islands as of right now (expect tribal, wait a second). Desciscions are made as a community and when an island-specific tradition, social norm, or law pops up or can end up staying for hundreds of years completely unchanged, until everyone just forgets why it’s even there in the first place.

The only expection to this is Tribal Island, which always has a chief that’s usually voted on.

There were, however, relatively short periods on history where islands did have leaders. For example, Fire Haven was ruled by a Kayna named Dawn when it was first founded after the cataclysm, and Magical Sanctum might’ve had some sort of Enchantling ruler at one point.

The monster world is generally super peaceful, with far fewer historical records of things like wars happening.

There is an economy in existence. Round, gold coins are used as the main currency, while the Pocket Dimension Islands (Magical Sanctum and Ethereal Island) use Shards.

All monsters are able to speak to each other and are fully sentient. They age at about the same rate as humans, though actual lifespan may be anywhere from 60-100 years depending on the species.

There’s no such thing as having a biological sex. Monsterlings are simply referred to with they/them pronouns until they’re old enough to figure it out. But there’s sometimes… questionable… parents who try to decide for their kids. Not cool 😤

As for breeding, it works quite similar to how it does in-game, with inter species cross-breeding creating children of a new species with the right elements.

However, though it’s not shown in-game, sometimes the breeding structure may malfunction and create direct hybrids, which look like an actual blend of their parents species. But these are a VERY, and I mean VERY rare happening, so there’s no way a hybrid could go under the radar anywhere.

And lastly, a bit about etiquette: when your talking to someone, and you need to say their name, but don’t know it yet because you just met them, it’s best to just replace it with species name, and they’ll usually just tell you. It’s considered a bit rude to ask “what are you?” and similar enquiries about someone’s species.

mondo’s text will be orange and bold with almost no punctuation at all lmao

Toorie’s Text Will Be Pink In Italics , And Have Every Starting Letter Capitalized , Like Queen From Deltarune , Only With Punctuation One Space Away From Every Word !!

Sprigg’s text will be in the “chat” font, and it will be green and bold with proper syntax, capitalization and punctuation.

Mauna’s text will use proper grammar and capitalization , but move the punctuation one space away from every word , like Toorie . She will speak in a bold red “bigger” font in smalltext , and will not use contractions (an example being “I will” instead of “I’ll”) .

flitz speaks in, well, almost the same kind of capitalization as Mondo, but uses punctuation correctly, like Sprigg. she only ever capitalizes proper nouns if they don’t start sentences. she also speaks in a bold purple font with italics.

awdajeeo/jeeo speaks in a green lucille font with the same capitalization as mondo, never capitalizing words unless he’s yelling.

also, Toorie is the tallest, mondo is kind of average height (same for Mauna but she’s slightly shorter), and Sprigg is the shortest out of the three (their designs for ref.)

I drew something for TBoCI for the first time in what feels like forever even though it’s only been a month

Something something AU where instead of sending each kid to the Magical Islands FT keeps all them with him and Perry as well so they ALL end up on Cold Island pre-collapse… Alternatively here’s four canon characters and two fanmade characters, guess whos who (all of that was sarcasm)

In other words I decided I will starting this over from the ground-up. It’s been over a year and my motivation is finally, FINALLY back. I will be keeping all of the current stuff on @theballadofcoldisland but that ask blog is officially shut down and is now just an archive.

Instead of being one long and strange story that only focuses on characters that honestly have nothing to do with the title, I will split TBoCI into several smaller stories that give a MUCH better insight on the motivations, groups, and the like. I will inevitably share the original files, drafts, and ideas.

This is the part where I get somewhat emotional and sincere apologies in advance to plushii, who I might mention in there. All good things, my friend. All good things.

I think this is the best course of action. There are a lot of characters in this story that despite being incredibly important, are not addressed properly or not at all until the last chapter that only exists in my notes. I mean… A massive amount of this story has only been discussed in a discord chat with a person I cannot contact anymore. It’s a massive mess of an idea that sounds stupider everytime I think of it.

And then a long while ago now, I was on Pony Town and talking to a friend I has just made. I distinctly remember they were in a Celestial skin. I think at some point they’d asked what “TBoCI” meant in my name, and I explained my story to them. They said they were writing a fanstory for MSM as well. I encouraged them to post it.

Now I daily see wonderful, wonderful content for that story, both from the creator and the fans. I finally understood what I did wrong. TBoCI was incoherent and messy where Fallen Stars was clean and consistent. I had so much in my mind that I had spilled it all out to One Person, and now there exists only two people in the world who know who the hell Kane is (possibly only one person now)!

What I’m trying to say is, in short, thanks @plushii-gutz . There’s a few factors to me being able to write TBoCI again, but you’re definitely the biggest part of that. Our encounter was a blessing.

And to everyone, please look forward to a much smoother ride. This is a fun one.

Alright time to scream

So around the beginning of August, Big Blue Bubble started implementing a feature in My Singing Monsters where you could zap eggs to turn the celestial monsters into their adult versions. On the one hand, this is an interesting concept. In their debut game of Dawn of Fire, they're portrayed as elderly, and in MSM they're portrayed as lil baby children. It makes sense that at some point they'd "grow up" in a sense.

On the OTHER hand, it's REALLY goddamn annoying to get them to ascend to adulthood. It's just regular eggs like zapping them to monsters from Amber Island. The weird part is- actually I can't explain for shit at times so let me just

To explain, a few of those eggs are a bit tricky. The light cyan eggs with the weird face on them are what the wiki says are "Flex eggs." Initially when trying to get adult scaratar, I just thought it was a mystery monster that had one of the elements specified. If memory serves, scaratar needed 2 of them that were a faerie double element and 1 of them that were a fire triple element. Should be tedious but simple, right?

Those flex eggs actually indicate the need for a RARE monster, which are only obtainable at certain times. They're never guaranteed. What those required eggs on scaratars list asked were 2 double faerie elements with rares and one triple fire element rare. At the time of scaratar releasing, there were a few monsters that met this criteria. Rare Hippityhop, rare Wimmzies, and rare Rootitoot were available. Good luck GETTING them, though, they're called rare for a fucking REASON-

That's not even getting into the seasonal monsters required which, by the way, are also only available for a limited time. Scaratar needed the mindboggle seasonal Boo'qwurm. Loodvigg (I've been kinda ignoring him because I can make a lot of my points through scaratar) needs Whiz-Bang from skypainting, Clavavera from Beat-hereafter, and Viveine from Echos of Eco. These are all available at various times, only one of which has any possibility of being fully available normally around this time of the year. And again, good luck with that, as they're a pain in the ass to get.

Oh and you run out of time at the end of the month, so if you missed any eggs you automatically have to pay up an unholy amount of diamonds for 3 goddamn monsters or have them be blended up into coins that will NOT AT ALL feel worth it. I'm not projecting, fuck you.

The smell of crushed coffee beans and toasted bread is in the air, making the kitchen busier than yesterday.

The celestials were just chatting about their problems with their elemental monsters who were bored while Wilbur and his best friend, Humbert were asking who would win, eating their breakfast faster than lightning. “Alright! Whoever finishes the toast wins the game and gets on top of the Starhenge!” yelled Wilbur, in a shrill voice. He’s holding a toast with strawberry jam in his palm. “You bet!" Humbert challenged. He's a half-human, half-Humbug with bright green and black stripes that fall from his cowlick. He’s different from the celestials because he’s an ethereal monster that was adopted by his mother, Scarlette Poinelda. It was unknown how he got adopted. As the boys chomp down their toast, Berlioz is watching them from the table, interested in what the boys’ plans are up to. Galaxia then tells her first and probably last biological son to look at her.

She whispered” Don’t be like your brother, he’s like that sometimes,” But Wilbur didn’t bat an eyelid to his mom. He just continues to eat his toast.

Guess who wins the toast challenge? Yes, it was Wilbur. Wilbur

throws a plate from his hands and Pliro catches it. “Ey, what did I tell you the last time?!” Pliro scowled.”Hey, it’s supposed to be me who yelled at Wilbur, not you!” Vincent also scowled.

That didn’t matter to Wilbur the most. All that matters to him is that he’s the winner. “HAH, I WIN! SEE YA AT THE TOP OF THE STARHENGE!” Wilbur beamed, sprinting towards the trapdoor that his mother went up last night.

“NOT FAIR!” grouched Humbert. He just finished eating toast but instead of throwing the plate like Wilbur did, He rushes to the sink and puts it in there. He then opens his bug-like wings and starts to fly towards the trapdoor.

But it was too late for Humbert. ”Hehe, you thought you could win? Hah! Too bad! I’m opening the trapdoor!” Wilbur teased his best friend, who’s now gonna be his former friend, a few years later. But the trapdoor won’t budge.

Huh? Questioned Wilbur. What? How? The trapdoor didn't budge as when Galaxia used it that night to have a brief chat with her husband. Wilbur looks as if there’s a lockpick. No there isn’t, he thought. He gives Humbert a ‘Do you know where the lockpick is?’ look. Humbert shrugs “I don’t know”.

Humbert then goes up and pushes the trapdoor. And there it was, a Downpour. The rain poured its fill to the boys’ faces and Humbert slowly closed the trapdoor. Humbert, looking wetter than a cat that goes out to fetch a rat in the rain, looks at Wilbur, who still looks wet from the rain, and then tells him “We need to change our clothes,”. And so, the boys went down without their parents’ notice that they were wet.

The boys finally got into their shared rooms. They changed their damp clothes to their t-shirts, and long brown pants and dried their hair so the celestials won’t suspect a thing. They poke their head outside from their bedroom, wondering if their parents know where they are right now.

“All clear?” whispered Wilbur. Humbert nodded as a yes. And so, the boys quickly ran away from their room. Unfortunately, someone saw them, because there was a creak that only a mouse could hear. The boys slowly turned their heads toward the source of the sound. A 26-year-old half-Loodvigg with four bony, webbed hands and a hair that swirls at the end stood before them. He glares at them with a suspicious look and raises his eyebrow.

The boys stood there, shivering as they looked at the Spider. Humbert asked “Umm, hey Uncle… What’s with that look?” Ludo then took Hum and Wilbur to their parents by their shirts. They use sign language to Galaxia, Vincent, and Scarlette that they saw their children snuck out of their room, which made the three of Laxi, Vinci, and Scar stare at the boys.

Whoops. Didn’t see this happen.

“Wilbur, you’re grounded,” Ordered Galaxia, with disappointment on his face.

Damn.

After the boys entered their room, Vinci and Scar decided to go to look out their respective islands, which left Laxi and Ludo alone.

“Did you see their face, Luddy?” asked Laxi, a snicker coming out from her giggly face. Ludwig nodded with a smirk on the right side of their face. The Galaxia he knew was something he couldn’t help but always put his guard down.

He always sees her as his little sister.

Just like his friend’s son and his (not) adopted sister’s son

Not realizing that…

They’ll no longer be friends, in a few years.

Do you have any headcanons for MSM?

Uh, yes!! These mainly are demonstrated in my MSM AU [aksblog here: @ask-a-girl-and-a-bowgart] but I'll put some of my headcanons here!

the wubboxes, when they were created, were equipped with protection mechanisms in the form of a double jaw with serrated metal teeth [think of a fnaf animatronic]. The wubboxes have supreme control over their double jaws, and unless provoked [which is kinda hard to do XD] are very friendly. The epic wubboxes have additional abilities relating to their island of residence

To put it blunt, the monster world operates similar to the human world economically. There are differences that I won't get into too much

The celestials in this msm au timeliness are not yet awake, and therefore the elements of the monster world run rampant [for now. Mwehehehe]

Homophobia, transphobia, etc is not tolerated in the monster world [lmaooo] as I think that probably the queen population is... well a lot XD

There are worshipping places/temples for the religious [monks] around the world, to pray andwe'll, worship the celestials above. Some monsters worship and live a monkey lifestyle, others live agnostic/atheist lives. It's a spectrum, yknow?

These are sorta generalized hcs that isn't lore for my au lol- it isn't much but 🤷‍♀️

I Just had a thought thanks to your headcanon. I imagined that Furnoss, Snycopite, and Galvana (Until a certain point) disguised themselves the least. Furnoss because there was only the volcano her could go to, Syncopite because he doesn’t wanna be hit on, and Galvana Because Wubbox’s were the only Supernatural (Until Wublin Island, that is).

If anything, I’m betting that Galvana can’t even disguise themselves because there is no real naturally occurring Electricity single elemental. Yes, Wubbox exists, but Galvana had to MAKE Wubbox.  Either way this is super interesting to consider, I never really thought of the Celestials having an opinion on the single elemental form they could potentially take. I wouldn’t be shocked if Hornacle really hates being a Toejammer, knowing their tough and adventurous pirate attitude. Meanwhile I’m betting Plixie would be like “hi im a ghazt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! meow meow meow meow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
