*Around a week later, Trent comes into the dens from his room and looks about a little for Delta before finding him in the kitchen and sneaks up to hug around his waist from behind*
Whatcha doin?
@ask-trent-ghoul
(He lets out little chuckle as he feels Trent's arms around.) "Well hello there, lily" (He turns around to kiss his forehead.) "Just cooking breakfast. Although by this time it feels more like brunch."

Haircuts i think some of the ghouls have because why not :
Swiss : dreadlocks with a lot of gold jewlery
Ifrit : shaved on the left side, wavy and jaw-lenght for the rest
Sunshine : MOHAWK. I am a mohawk Sunny truther
Pebble : short and fluffy
Cirrus : long hair with an undercut at the back
Aether : mohawk again. He's the one who cut Sunny's hair when she decided she wanted one too.
Alpha : I'm torn between long hair (like mid-back long), long hair with both sides shaved, or short hair. I especially like the second option but all three seem fitting.
Omega : usually slicks it back, but when loose falls on his forehead
Delta : he cuts it off himself without caring how it looks. It's uneven and often a total mess, but he won't let anyone touch it.
Zephyr : shoulder lenght, often full of braids (done by ifrit) and half of it held up in a ponytail.
Mist : short and unruly, spikes in every directions
Aurora : mid neck lenght curls with a bang
Rain : WOLF CUT WAVY HAIR RAIN SUPREMACY
Cumulus : mid back lenght beautiful curls, of course
Dew : mid back long hair
Phantom : fluffy curls with a streak of white at the front, falling on his face, hidding his eyes if he tilts his face down.
Mountain : mid neck lenght, often in a ponytail with one rebel strand constantly slipping out of it

Soft loving and passionate sex with Delta please!!!!
Yes, the tripod can get it. Sleepy morning sex go! - Death
Good Morning” - Delta x GN! Reader NSFW
They/it pronouns used for Delta.
Mornings with Delta were very calm. You and the ghoul sleeping, tangled in the sheets, its head cradled in your shoulder as their one arm hugged you close.
Though that morning you were…being poked.
You blinked awake slowly, carefully moving your leg against the lump. A low purr coming from the ghoul, one eye staring at you amused.
“Hello, my love... seems we have proof of you being in my dreams.”
Your cheeks heated up as it rolled onto the stump of their missing arm, stealing a kiss from you as your thigh pressed harder against their bulge.
A sneaky tail slid into your pants, running at your entrance. Still slick from the lube used last night. The light contact getting your attention as Delta growled into your ear.
“Feel like giving me another show, sweetheart? Still a little tired out from last night.”
You pushed it back, tugging their boxers down just enough to get their cock out. Slowly lowering yourself down. A breathy moan escaping you both as one clawed hand squeezed your hip softly. A silent request for you to lean down.
Which was easy enough, leaning to lazily kiss the Quintessence Ghoul while rolling your hips. They were clearly in no rush, why should you be?
You both had all morning to make slow, soft, lazy love. Plus... after they finished, Delta had to clean up their mess.
It would be rude to leave its cum all over you.

YEAHHHHH
Alpha/Omega/Delta, okay. Right? We got it? Hadjf LETS GO
They are SOO in love. Definitely like the old retired husbands of the Abbey(even if Delta's the only retired one).
They're like THE pinnacle of romance for a lot of ppl. The type where you go 'if they EVER break up, romance is dead.'
Out of the three of them, Omega's the only one with another partner that isn't a ghoul, it being Terzo. Alpha lovingly teases him about his human side piece, but if asked seriously, will insist that Terzo is just as important to their dynamic.
alpha also has a MAJORRR crush on terzo that he REFUSES to talk about.
Delta's quintessence, because for Me it manifests in premonitions, tends to be rlly finicky. He can either give accurate dates of events, or vague descriptions of them. It's usually near-future.
You already know this Aru BUT, he doesn't remember what he talks about when his quint is acting up, so usually he only recalls when he's informed of it. A few ghouls(Alpha, Omega, Aether, Ifrit, Dew and Mist) are given permission to record him during it.
The only premonition he remembers, is when he accurately predicted when the three older Emeritus brothers were going to be killed. He was alone, and he didn't tell anyone about it, to save the preemptive mourning. He also, years in advance, had a premonition of Copia!
Specifically his ascension to Papa. Delta was very confused, at the time Copia hadn't even come to the Abbey as Cardinal yet, so Delta hadn't met him or heard of him
Omega's the head of the hospital at the abbey. He takes his job EXTREMELY seriously, though Aether helps with it. Delta would've also been working there if his quint was viable for it. He still visits regularly, to bring Omega his lunch or try and coax him out for dinner.
Alpha does a bunch of odd-jobs around the abbey, though primarily he does a lot of handy-man repairs, on top of any guitar tech that needs done. Through winter he helps keep the abbey warm, alongside all the other fire ghouls. They can sustain going out in the cold temps for more firewood, and he keeps the main hearth in the chapel lit.
he also is the official un-official guard dog of the siblings. He sometimes disappears for a few hrs and shows back up saying there was "a small issue". That usually brings an unknown hiker corpse found later, dead to a presumed animal attack. It's never just a hiker. In my hc, Cowbell helps out, as the local woods cryptid, they inform Alpha if they catch an intruder scent.
Delta generally does a lot of little things around the abbey! Lots of helping out where he can, small busywork like replacing candles in the chapel, helping with laundry, dusting, etc. He enjoys it well enough. In the summer months, he's usually out in the lake diving, though. When his quint is forgiving, he spends a lot of time there. Some siblings will play fetch with him, too :D
ALSOOO In terms of timeline for them, Alpha and Omega were summoned first. They were all together in the pits, all three in some way having left or been kicked out of their previous packs.
They hadn't made it official, back then, but Delta had begun courting the two of them. Alpha and Omega were summoned together, an accidental mixup opened the summoning for quintessence and fire, and they got nabbed together.
Delta continued to add to the two piles of courting gifts for them, in hopes that if they ever returned, they'd accept his courting.
Topside, Alpha and Omega were initially furious. Every summoning, they watched and hoped their Delta would be the one to crawl through. Every time, they left with a different ghoul.
In the time it took for a new water ghoul to be summoned and for Delta to be the one nabbed, Alpha and Omega were silently accepted as a mated couple. Despite not being official, they were rarely seen apart for long, so everyone assumed.
The day Delta was summoned, they'd both felt ODD. Kinda like the feeling before a big storm, they knew something was going on, but assumed it was their hopes for Delta getting to them. After so many tries, they were starting to lose hope of ever seeing him.
So, when Alpha scented Delta, even though he was still slumped in the middle of the summoning circle, covered in muck and ash from the pits, he KNEW.
He broke from formation with the others, bolted for it the moment the circle was broken and he could enter. Omega followed shortly.
Everyone knew when they reacted like that, that whoever was just pulled from the pits, was IMPORTANT.
Delta clung to them, after. All three were crying, holding onto each other and trying to confirm it was real. That they were finally, FINALLY together again.
of course in a short while, Delta would undergo the experimental ritual to become quintessence. It would partially fail, permanently changing him, temporarily damaging his relationship with Alpha and Omega, and changing their lives as a whole.
But at that moment, none of them knew what the clergy would do to Delta, and just held each other.
The upside is, Delta is given favor from the clergy. They have hearts, kinda, and feel bad that it didn't kill him. To them, death was a blessing for this ghoul, neither quintessence nor water, plagued by visions of the future and with quint too powerful for his body.
Delta's made peace with himself, now. He doesn't trust the clergy, neither does Alpha, but he's also allowed to ask for anything he wants and it's usually given to him!
Delta did, however, almost take out half the abbey when he heard about Dew's transition. Several days were spent where his quint and water acted up. Violently. Severe flooding, and the abbey was completely cut off from the outside world. Power and flooding meant the roads leading away were flooded too bad to drive or navigate on, it was a complete blackout. The ground floors had a few inches of water for days, the oldest parts of the abbey had roofs caving in from the weight of the water.
No one could get close enough to try to calm him, until Omega did. Had Delta kept going, had Omega listened to the clergy's appeals to let him keep going and it'll stop, Delta would've burned out. A complete collapse of a star, he would've taken out the abbey with him. Omega managed to get close enough to spike him with enough quint to knock him out, which unfortunately meant both of them ended up unconscious.
Alpha was the second to go for Delta, refusing to wait while HIS mates were possibly in danger. He was the one to bring them back, practically burning with anger.
Delta was in a coma for a while. Omega woke up after a few days asleep, but Delta took longer. The amnt of quint his body burned through should've been catastrophic on him, no one's sure HOW he survived, but Omega and Alpha are relieved he did.
They love each other so much they'd die for one another.
Alpha and Delta had a rough go at it for a while, a period of time where Delta felt isolated not just from his pack but his own mates, while Alpha struggled with feeling like he couldn't protect Delta, not from the clergy. Omega, similarly, blamed himself, Delta's transition was directly linked to Omega over-doing it and being unable to use his quint or perform as a result, had he not pushed himself, Delta wouldn't have had to go thru with the ritual.

Mist said she heard dews screams
Who orderd the transition
What was the room like when they did it was it like a operation room or just a bed
Did dew move around a lot during the transition
Sorry about how many questions I'm extremely curious
Omg pls don’t be sorry I desperately want everyone to ask in depth questions about my writing it honestly makes my absolute day like YASSS SOMEONE CARES
Imma go question by question and try and describe what’s up, hopefully in the future I can make a longer fic detailing dews transition as I did deltas
Who ordered the transition?
Terzo in both cases. After hearing the fates of water, lake and river (succumbing to their element to the point of having to be banished), he didn’t want the same fate for delta or dew. Delta was an accident, as he already decided what he wanted before anyone could stop him. Omega was ordered by Terzo to help him, fix what he could but sadly there wasn’t much to be done. This is what largely made mist scared when Terzo ordered dew’s element transition, she witnessed deltas decay.
As for dew Terzo ordered both omega and aether to transition his element, as omega had experience and aether was a trusted ghoul that he knew could do it with hopefully minimal problems. It was out of concern, he didn’t want dew to suffer from his element as he knows others did so he chose to get ahead of it, with consent from him of course.
What was the room like when they did it was it like a operation room or just a bed
It took place in the infirmary, so imagine a hospital room. Not like an operation room as I believe the transition is almost entirely magic based, no physical tools needed. But I imagine the transition happening in a hospital room by omega and aether at his sides.
Did dew move around a lot during the transition
Warning for this question as I’ll be describing dew in pain
He tried, he was held down by quintessence to ensure nothing went wrong. I think it was a painful process, having to force the fire magic in while pulling the water out. I think it’s a process of one of them forcing it into his veins as the other takes the water out. I really don’t think it was easy on him. Especially aether having to remove his gills, pulling tissue over them to get rid of them.
It doesn’t last long though, a day at most. The rest of the time was recovery and to make sure he was ok, and to get ahead of any issues if they were to pop up. I imagine he stayed in the infirmary for about two weeks.
I hope this helps explain things!

Just wanted to say I absolutely LOVE Lady of the Lake and I've reread it so many times that I should be lowkey ashamed haha BUT
I'm also very curious about Nyneve's interactions with other ghouls like Delta or Dew. How did Dew find her?
You can absolutely take this as an opportunity to ramble about it if you want :)
okay so. i admit that technically the ghoul i call Water in my fic i guess is Delta? im terribly bad at tracking who's who in the water ghoul 'lore'. but Terzo called his bass player before Mist 'Water' so thats what i went with. so please call him whatever you'd like lmao.
for anyone who needs a refresher, this is sort of all i've established about Nyneve's past interactions w/ghouls or otherwise:
Uh, how long has it been? Since you’ve met a ghoul, I mean. Rain isn’t sure what to do with himself—what to do with his hands, his limbs, any of it. He dangles in front of her like a worm on a lure, and he supposes he is one, in a way. A slice of life outside the murky waters she inhabits. But he knows he’d be her catch of the day, not the other way around.
Many years, Nyvene says wistfully. I can sense those who venture into the water at any depth, as well as those close to the shore. But the ones who seem most closely aligned to you have never traveled as far as yourself. They were surface dwellers. Rain gives her a confused look. Not all are drawn to the depths, and that is perfectly fine for a being such as myself. But I did begin to wonder who would come next.
Dew had been telling the truth, then. Who was before me?
His name was simply Water. He was quite robust in his search, perhaps a little impatient. But he was kind to me. So I cannot fault him too much. She seems wistful, reminiscent. Rain realizes he doesn’t know much about the water ghouls before him and Dewdrop, let alone any of the ghouls that came before their current pack.
How many before him?
Many, she says simply.
Rain swallows, more bubbles escaping his gills. How, uh—how old are you, exactly?
Hm, age is a funny thing. That can’t be good. I have existed for a long time, longer than your congregation.
So, we didn’t, um, create you?
No, my child. Though, the dark magick running more frequently through these lands has been . . . refreshing, to put it simply.
You’ve always been here? In this lake, I mean.
Well, as long as I can remember, yes. She chuckles.
so, you'll notice, and as a gentle reminder, Dew and Mist did not interact with her. to me, they are not a deep-water alignment as Rain is. that's not to say Dew never meets her. because he does. but he didn't interact with her prior to Rain.
i think water ghouls, and ghouls/demons in general, have more specified alignments within the elements they are 'made' of/from. just water itself can be saltwater, freshwater, deep sea, rivers/streams, storms, ice, and things of the like.
so not all of them will have desired to go to the bottom of the lake (i think its pretty deep, think some of the deeper american great lakes depth despite its overall size). the elder ghouls may have passed down the knowledge about her, and some, like Water i think, dont. maybe theyre a little selfish about her, feel like theyve been 'chosen' and that everyone else should have to discover her too. with Water (again, Delta, w/e), it was turbulent with the new summonings, the changing of ghouls and even elements. there simply wasnt time to be like 'oh yeah also theres a big tentacle lady in the lake if you want to have a fun time' you know? not his fault.
so Nyneve's def had a relationship with many a ghoul, but it hasnt been linear. it hasnt all been water ghouls either, but i think the interaction of other elements has come and gone throughout time. i havent decided if any of the 'more recent' ghouls beyond the others mentioned have met her, or just know of her.
certainly there'd be urban legends passed around amongst humans that live in the surrounding areas, so they may have heard about something in passing. esp if any of those humans happened to become siblings of the church. but humans that do know of her have never truly known who she is, and mainly just call her varelse, creature. a monster.
the poem at the end you may have noticed uses her real name, Nyneve. so we can assume someone more personally familiar with her wrote it. scribbled it in some tome somewhere about local myths and legends, or historical drafts about the abbey itself.
she's very mysterious and not even i know everything about her, haha! dark magick gone rougue, some creature that crawled up from the depths, or something created by some long forgotten god.
all this to say, Rain had to introduce Dew to Nyneve. once he got over the fact that he'd have to tell everyone else about her, considering hed come home with sucker marks all over with no real logical explanation. i think Mountain is the first one he tells, but Dew is the first one he introduces.
i really appreciate that you enjoy LOTL so much; apologies for taking a little bit to answer this, but thanks for stopping by xx

Special angst. Featuring touch-starved Special, homemade quintessence fuckery and lore, basically Special can't touch anyone or they die, Omega and Delta try to help.
CW : Angst, like pretty heavy angst I think, Hurt/comfort, talk of death
Ghouls are social creatures. Not all to the same extend, not all in the same way, but the fact remains : ghouls thrive in eachother's company, in the knowledge that someone, somewhere, is waiting for them, ready to welcome them.
And, ghouls are physically affectionate, as a result of this need to be close and feel surrounded by loved ones. Of course, it's a generic rule, and it doesn't applie the same way to each individuals, but, most of the time, ghouls live off of casual touch, hand holding, hugs, cuddles, clasps on the shoulders, arms slung around waists, tails intertwining.
It's Satan's best joke, really, that Special can't even have that.
That he's so fucked up that not only no one bears to be in his presence, but he could also kill the poor ghoul who'd pity him enough to try and give him a hug.
Because Special's elements are all pulling him in different direction, trying to evade the too tight confine of his body, weak fire sorrowfuly begging to be smothered out, destructive quintessence furiously grasping at every bits of vital energy it can find, literaly sucking the life out of anyone stupid enough to have any kind of skin-to-skin contact with Special.
At least it's vaguely less awfull now that he managed to contain the devastating effect of his quintessence to his body - the screams of agony of the people who tried to approach him after his summoning, Omega's pained grunts as he backed away, the soft blanket he had held out for Special falling at his feet, the sheer terror on the ancient ghoul's face as he watched the humans unfortunate enough to be in Special's quintessence's range dropping like fly, oh, Special remembers it all so well.
Six Siblings died that way, simply because they were standing too close to him. Omega was, too, and is only alive because of his highly resistant nature, allowing him to stumble back in time.
It took weeks of sitting across from Omega, safe distance between them, training relentlessly to try and tame his quintessence, before Special could evolve around people without draining them. But it worked.
Provided he stays dressed head to toe, not a silver of skin showing, of course.
Special could, theoretically, be on the recieving end of ghoul's typical affection, the soft nudges, pats and caresses rythming their lives, long as no one makes contact with his skin, long as all those displays take place through a layer of clothing.
But then again, Special can't blame them for being wary, and prefering to stay away altogether. They're right, after all. You never know what might happen, if Special won't suddenly lose control and kill everyone in a three meters radius just by existing.
Special hasn't see anyone in days. Omega said he'd come by, but he hasn't yet. Special vaguely remembers something about Delta the...water ghoul, right ? Well, one of them anyway. There's a lot of those around, Special keeps forgetting who's who, doesn't see them enough to properly remember. He sticks to the dark corners, only goes out in the dead of the night, only watches the other ghouls from afar, except maybe for Omega.
But Omega's not here, hasn't been here for too long, busy taking care of Delta, whatever that means. Special wonders if he'll come back. Special wonders why he needs Omega to come to his room, why he can't bring himself to get up and go find the quint by himself. It's not like it's forbidden or anything. He just can't do it, the thought of opening his bedroom door in the middle of the day strictly unfathomable.
No, Special, at least during the day, needs someone to open it, someone to drag him outside if he really is needed, like for interviews, because apparently he's the only fucker who agreed to do them when neither Papa nor Omega are free.
A third choice, that would probably be even further down the list of candidates if it wasn't for his uncanny ability to entertain humans, with jokes and crudes, snarky remarks masking the cracks of his shattered soul.
So Special waits, sitting motionless in the middle of his bed. He hasn't seen anyone in days. He hasn't been touched since forever. No, that's not true. Omega cupped the back of his head the last time he was here, protected by the mask and balaclava Special always has to wears, and pressed a kiss to the metal covering his forehead.
It had nearly unraveld him.
Special doesn't know why Omega still bothers with him, what sick sense of responsability pushes the quint to visit Special as often as he can bear, why he insist on being so patient, so gentle, smiling with sadness in his eyes.
Special doesn't want pity. But he could never tell Omega not to come back.
His hair is getting too long. It's itchy in the back of his neck, keeps getting stuck in folds of fabric. Special shifts uncomfortably, thinking about stealing a pair of scissors and chopping it off himself. It's always a delicate task, cutting his hair : he's not good at it himself, but whenever Omega's doing it, he has to be extra cautious, avoiding any contact with Special's scalp, not even able to properly run his fingers through it. Special's hair is never perfect, always a bit messy, as a result, but now it's even worse.
He really needs Omega to come back.
It hits Special like a freight train.
He needs Omega to come back. He needs to hear his voice, to see the lines and creases on his face, the tired slope of his broad shoulders, the softness of his eyes. Special needs his tentative, fleeting touches, needs to talk to him, needs to be carefully held, even if it's all tainted with Omega's guilt, obligation and pity.
He needs to know Omega hasn't moved on, hasn't chalked him up as a lost cause, that Special hasn't lost the only comfort life ever granted him.
A knock startles him out of his thoughts, his whole being shaking with relief at the familiar pattern.
"Spesh ? Can I come in ?"
Special nearly sobs. His voice scratches in his throat.
"Yes."
Omega slips in the room. He's maskless, and Special drinks him in like a ghoul starved. He looks tired, like he hasn't slept in days, but. He's smiling. Omega is smiling, wide an bright, eyes gleaming. It makes Special's own lips pull in an unfamiliar direction, up up up, until concealed under the mask, his mouth weakly mimics Omega's.
"I have good news for you, Spesh. Really good news. Would you let me bring someone else in here ?"
Special visibly flinches, though still half frozen, cossed-legged on the bed. Omega's face softens in that way Special yearns for.
"It's okay, it'll be fine. I promise. Do you trust me ?"
Special doesn't need to think about the answer, nodding with more conviction than he ever displayed before. It gets a soft chuff out of Omega.
"Attaboy."
The quint moves with a grace Special envies, reaching for the door and opening it like it's the easiest thing in the world. Maybe, to him, it is.
The ghoul that steps in looks just as tired as Omega, if not more, but is also sporting a smile, hair an absolute mess, looking like it got chopped with absolutely no regard for the aesthetical result, as uneven as it is unruly.
"Spesh, this is Delta, remember ? Delta, this is Special."
Special blinks, unmoving as a statue, as he often is. Sometimes, he thinks that if he keeps perfectly still, the universe will forget that he is supposed to be, and simply let him stop existing.
Delta. Yes Special remembers. He doesn't smell like most water ghouls, though, it's quite disarming.
"Hello, Special," Delta breathes, barely above a whisper, "it's nice to officially meet you."
Unsure of what to do with that soft tone, with how genuine Delta apparently is, Special looks toward Omega, silently begging for guidance. The quint goes to sit next to him, one hand brushing his back ever so slightly. Special has to bite his tongue to contain a relieved whimper.
"He's here because we discovered something, and I have a theory," Omega explains.
Delta is standing straight, hands folded behind his back, withstanding Special's wary scrunity with an easy smile. Something about him is...off, Special notes. It's not necessarily bad, but it intrigues him.
Delta looks like a water ghoul. Blueish tint to his grey skin, gills, needle sharp fangs, webbed fingers, a few fish-like scales visible on his forearms. And yet...
Special doesn't realize he's leaning forward until Delta tilts his head in amusement. He leans back immediately, clasping his gloved hands tighter on his lap.
"I think," Omega goes on, "that he might be able to touch you without consequences."
It's instinctive, the way Special stiffens, shaking his head desperately at Omega, clearing his throat to find his voice again.
"No, no, no, Megs, it'll end up badly-"
"Listen- listen to me, Spesh, listen," Omega interrupts his panicked babbling, craddling his masked face between two big hands, "i'm not pulling this out of my ass, okay ? Delta here, well, we needed a new quintessence ghoul, at least for a little while, until we could summon a new one, and...Delta volunteer for an...elemental transition of some kind."
Special blinks, shaking in Omega's grip. Well, that explains the funny feeling, the strange scent.
"But...Delta's still water," Special rasps. Omega hums, nodding.
"Yes, but not exclusively. He's not...quintessence either. It's more like...he became a vessel quintessence can pass through. He can channel it from the outside, dig it from the source rather than something within him like us quintessence ghoul do, quite literaly pull it from thin air, let it flow through him, and release it."
Special frowns, trying to wrap his mind around all this.
"But...raw quintessence, the one that is everywhere, is impossible to access to unless you are a quint, because your quintessence connects you to it, opens you a door. Right ?"
It's more words than he's spoken in weeks outside of interviews, but excitement suddenly buzzes in his body, brain finally feeded something to think about, to analyse, to study. Special is a cerebral creature, no matter what people might thing, and such an incredible discovery makes him feel almost alive.
Omega laughs, a breathless, amazed little thing.
"I know. But, apparently, we managed to crack that door open for Delta. He doesn't have much control over the quintessence he releases, but it's enough for the Clergy, for now."
Special glances toward Delta from the corner of his eyes.
"That's...you wrote it down, right ? Records of this could be incredibly useful-"
The smile he gets makes Special's heart miss a beat. Omega looks so fond, so full of love, it's almost painful.
"I did. I'll hand you my notes. But, back to you. What your quintessence does, is devouring energy out of living things-"
Special hangs his head down, shame creeping up his spine, wrapping around his throat.
"Hey, none of that, Spesh," Omega soothes, pulling his head up by the metal point of the mask's chin, "let me finish. What if someone was full of an energy they can fully dispose of ? If someone could let your quintessence take without it harming them, that means they could touch you. Delta could touch you."
Special blinks.
"But...you can't touch me."
"Because your quintessence takes the one at my core - drains me dry of a source of power so entangled in my being that losing it would mean losing me. But Delta's quintessence doesn't come from him."
Slowly, Delta comes closer, kneeling by the bed, offering his bare hand to Special, smiling, and Special- can't understand why. Why anyone would willingly take such risks - first the attempted elemental transition, now this.
Omega brushes Special's shoulder.
"Please, try it. I know...how hard isolation is for you. Please, sparkle, try. If anything goes wrong i'll pull Delta away before any real damages can be done, I promise."
The coppery taste of blood hits Special's tongue, and it's the only reason he's aware he's biting his lip. Then Delta talks.
"I volunteered, Special. I know this is going to work. I trust Omega's theory, and. I think I can trust you, too."
This time Special does sob.
"If I hurt you..."
"You won't. Give me your hand, Special, it'll be okay."
And Special is terrified. Terrified that it won't work, that he'll hurt Delta, who seems the nicest ghoul you could ever wish for. Terrified that it'll work, that the one time he manages to touch someone without killing them will kill him, that all it would take would be a brush of skin against his own to destroy him.
Despite all that, Special slowly, oh so slowly takes one glove off, revealing too-pale skin and twitchy fingers. Delta' smile widens, then the air shifts a bit, starts blurring around him. One of his eyes turns purple, his skin shimering slightly.
"It's a bit like holding my breath," the water (?) ghoul explains, "i can't keep it for too long, maybe a couple of minutes, after, i have to release it. Open the valves, kind of. But, if I just keep them open, just let quintessence flow in and out freely, like this-"
Another shift in the air. The shimer on Delta's skin dims, his features relaxing.
"Then I can keep it that way as long as i like, effortlessly for the most part. That's how we can touch. I'm ready when you are."
He's going to do this. Special is going to do this. His hand is shaky when he wraps it loosely around Delta's - ready to pull away at any moment - but the second their skin makes contact, he gasps and can't help tightening it.
Delta doesn't flinch. His skin glints a bit more, but that's it. Special's quintessence is hungrily drinking in the one flowing though Delta, but he doesn't need it. He can let Special take it.
Salt. Salt on his tongue, now. Special is crying. Holding onto Delta's hand for dear life, shoulders shaking, Special is crying, the water ghoul shushing him softly, thumb drawing circles on the back of his hand.
Omega helps unclasping the mask, watching with tears of his own as Special takes it off, throws it somewhere, who cares, where the balaclava and second glove quickly follow.
Delta opens his arm, still not letting go. Special sobs so hard he's sure it's going to turn him inside out, slidding off the bed and into Delta's firm, tender embrace, burrying his face in the water ghoul's neck, finally able to touch, to feel, truly feel.
He can't see it, but Omega's crying in earnest now, Delta fighting tears as well.
Special isn't okay. Special might never be okay, Delta might be the only person he'll ever get to touch, it might stop working at some point, there might be a catch, but oh, Special doesn't care.
He'd trade his infernal eterinity for this moment in time, folded in arms that hold him like something precious.

Delta time! - Death
“The Dark Lord’s Intent” Delta x GN! Reader
They/it pronouns used for Delta.
Admittedly, it had been an adjustment after Delta’s amputation.
Missing an arm and a leg made it challenging for the ghoul to figure out their place in the Ministry again. Not that you let it dwell on how hard recovery had been.
From the moment you could visit you brought them treats to lift their mood. Games they could do with one hand.
Now, several months after recovery began, the new Quintessence ghoul was (very stubbornly) hopping his way down the falls away from the prosthetic leg that was driving it up the wall.
Conveniently losing its balance and falling into your arms, tail wagging excitedly at seeing you.
“Hello, darling…can you please convince Omega to stop trying to torture me?”
They asked, making you chuckle as you helped them straighten up. Assisting them into their room (they had almost made it from the infirmary without falling, an impressive distance) and onto their bed. Cupping their face in your hands and sweetly kissing their forehead. Earning a happy purr from the Quintessence ghoul trying to hide in your chest.
“Unfortunately for you, hopping around the Ministry isn’t a permanent solution. You’re wearing it after a cuddle.”
You stated, earning a betrayed look from the transformed ghoul. Tail lashing in annoyance before another kiss was placed on their forehead. The purring starting back up as it allowed you to help it into bed properly.
“Only if I get you to stay the night. Give me a longer cuddle session.”
The hopeful grin and puppy eyes melted you in the end as you snuggled the stubborn pogo stick that was Delta.
