ASIA ARGENTO 20 September 1975 Asia Argento is an Italian actress who is best known for her work in Queen Margot / La Reine Margot (1994), Land of the Dead (2005), Marie Antoinette (2006, Madame du Barry) & Les Misérables (2000). Asia Argento was born in Rome, the daughter of a filmmaker and an actress. She is able to speak Italian, English and French. She has been married once and has two children. She was in a relationship with chef Anthony Bourdain who she met in 2016. He took his own life in 2018; it was said he did so in a spontaneous act. Their relationship was full of infidelity and friends said he wanted her more than she wanted him. Their last exchange she texted, ‘stop busting my balls’ he replied, ‘OK’ hours before his life came to an end. Argento was said to have been upset about his possessive and obsessive nature. In the last days of his life, he Googled her name over 300 times. He was upset that she had been with another man ‘you were reckless with my heart… it's only that that hurts’. That night he was alone, and drank a lot, it was said he was suffering from depression as well as Parkinson’s Disease which was ‘getting a lot worse pretty fast’. In 2009, Argento signed a petition to support Roman Polanski, after he was arrested for drugging and raping a girl aged 13 in 1977. She later had regrets and called it a ‘mistake’. Argento was one of the known faces in the #MeToo movement during the Weinstein scandal in 2017. She accused Weinstein of raping her when she was aged 21. She also accused director Rob Cohen of drugging and raping her during filming of xXx. Argento had sexual relations with actor Jimmy Bennett in 2013, on his 17th birthday when she was 37. She first met Bennett when he played her son in 2004, when he was aged 7. Bennett stated that she gave him alcohol and then it became more sexual. There was evidence of this encounter – a photo of herself topless in bed with Bennett, she wrote to model Rain Dove, ‘I had sex with him it felt weird. I didn’t know he was a minor until the shakedown letter.’ Bennett came forward about the incident and Argento had her partner Bourdain paid him to keep him quiet. Her attorney admitted a sexual relation happened between them, but they alleged it was he who ‘sexually attacked’ her.

C’è stato un periodo a cavallo tra il 2018 e il 2019, durante l’esperienza di governo gialloverde con Giuseppe Conte come premier in cui Matteo Salvini e il partito del carroccio godevano di ampi consensi in tutto il paese. Praticamente, la Lega volava, forse anche più del Movimento 5 Stelle, vincitori delle elezioni politiche del 2018.

Oggi la Lega è ridotta quasi ad essere lo zombie di sé stessa, causa anche varie problematiche interne: la dipartita del curatore delle pagine social Luca Morisi e lo scandalo della droga ad esso collegato, strategie comunicative sbagliate, oltre ad una serie di strafalcioni commessi da Salvini ora in televisione ora nelle piazze in cui ha tenuto comizi. Ma nel 2018/2019 Salvini camminava sulle acque, all’occorrenza le divideva, moltiplicava pani e pesci e lievitava a tre metri da terra. Ancora prima che essere un capitano, era un santo per le folle che lo idolatravano, tanto che anche Barbara D’Urso non potette non invitarlo come ospite a Live – non è la D’Urso a “confrontarsi” con la Alba Parietti, con @asiaargento e compagnia bella.

Oggi a dominarla nel centro-destra e tra le forze politiche è Giorgia Meloni, che nonostante la nullità di compagine governativa che ha tirato su continua a godere di ampio consenso e popolarità. Facile parlare per slogan, specie quando si buttano al cesso tutti quei “niente migranti, affondiamo le navi delle ong”, quei “basta accise sulla benzina” e quei “no agenda Draghi” (che oggi pare essere la stella polare di questo esecutivo) urlati come farebbero i pescivendoli al mercato la domenica.

Ma torniamo a Salvini, e al suo consenso del 2019. Come ci era arrivato fin lì? La risposta non può che essere una: come la Meloni. Urlando (con toni più pacati, ma forse neanche tanto) e inveendo contro migranti, contro l’Europa, prendendo di mira questo o quell’esponente “di sinistra” dileggiandolo sui social e in piazza (la bambola gonfiabile della Laura Boldrini qualcuno se la ricorda?). E da quando la Lega ha cambiato il nome eliminando il termine “Nord” dal nome del partito è stato tutto ancora più semplice. Il termine “Nord” infatti, certamente lasciava molto a desiderare quegli elettori non-settentrionali, i quali erano presi di mira in una prima fase politica di Salvini. Era stesso Salvini e la Lega a richiedere a gran voce che la Padania uscisse dall’Italia e dall’Europa, per non avere contatti con l’euro, con i migranti, e tutte le problematiche varie ed eventuali. Piuttosto che trovare risoluzioni, ha sempre preferito ignorare e puntare al populismo più spicciolo, becero, sparando sentenze e luoghi comuni aizzando le masse un giorno sì e l’altro pure.

Vi viene proposto, in questo post, un breve filmato di un “giovane” Matteo Salvini che, in un raduno con la sua gente, con tanto di birra in mano, intona un coro decisamente “divisivo” (per non dire “razzista”, guai a chiamare col proprio nome o col proprio aggettivo un’azione del genere) contro Napoli e contro i napoletani. Un video che anche a distanza di anni viene difeso a spada tratta dai suoi elettori, anche quegli stessi elettori meridionali dileggiati in soli venti secondi o poco più. Forse quei “colerosi e puzzolenti” napoletani sono quelli che mandano avanti la vita del partito di Salvini e di tutta la baracca centro-destra, e senza i loro voti non potrebbero minimamente governare questo paese. Ma ciò che stupisce di più è come questo video venga difeso: “era tanto tempo fa, ora è cambiato”, oppure “in realtà lui stava criticando l’amministrazione napoletana, non il popolo napoletano”.

Sia come sia, certo è che le cose sono decisamente cambiate, e ciò che un tempo veniva cantato od urlato contro i meridionali, oggi viene rivolto agli immigrati e ai rom, ogni qualvolta che venga sguinzagliato un cagnaccio leghista o meloniano in televisione: Galeazzo Bignami, Giovanni Donzelli, Susanna Ceccardi, Silvia Sardone… Tutti quei luoghi comuni come “ci rubano il lavoro, ci stuprano le donne, portano sporcizia e malattie”, per non parlare di quell’obbrobrioso termine del “carico residuale” citato in questo esecutivo dal ministro dell’interno Matteo Piantedosi (sul sito della Treccani è stato anche rilasciato, in data 17 novembre 2022, un articolo in cui approfondiscono la questione lessicale della frase citata dal ministro).

Al di là delle opinioni politiche, secondo voi come può un meridionale votare e addirittura difendere un politico così indifendibile come Salvini dopo tutto ciò che ha detto nei confronti del meridione? È davvero così bravo lui a fare politica, o così stupido il popolo che abbocca (oltre che privo di memoria storica)? Ma soprattutto, come può ricoprire un ruolo come quello del vice-premier della nazione che fino a neanche un decennio fa voleva a tutti i costi dividere in Nord e Sud? Misteri inspiegabili, ma che in Italia sono ormai da anni la normalità su cui nessuno più si interroga, sebbene sia cosa buona e giusta che qualcuno ancora si ponga domande in materia. A voi l’ardua sentenza.

We watched “Roadrunner” (The doc about Anthony Bourdain), last night. If you were a fan of him or his book or many shows, it’s a must see and very well done. It tackles his complicated legacy without overtly trying to answer the central question of, why? There are great interviews with many of the people closest to him but there is one huge one missing. There is no interview with his girlfriend Asia Argento, who features prominently in the third act. I assumed she declined, but after a little digging apparently the filmmaker, Morgan Neville decided not to ask her. An interesting choice, to say the least and I think not fair to her or the whole story. A missed opportunity. The film had me walking away with a second “why?” question… I’ve crossed paths with all 3 of them over the years for various projects. These are some of those images.
