Sharad Purnima 2024: Special importance of celebrating Sharad Purnima and the beliefs of this festival!
Tumblr media
🕉🚩Sharad Purnima 2024: Special importance of celebrating Sharad Purnima and the beliefs of this festival!
🕉🚩Sharad Purnima 2024 is celebrated on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. In many places, this day is also celebrated as Kojagari Purnima. On this auspicious occasion, there is a ritual of worshiping and fasting Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi in a proper manner. It is believed that by doing these auspicious works, Shri Hari is pleased and there is happiness and peace in the house.
🕉🚩The festival of Purnima has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. In Sanatan Dharma, the full moon date is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. The full moon date of Ashwin month is known as Sharad Purnima. Sadhaks celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. Also, take a bath in the Ganges and donate in the auspicious time. After this, worship Lord Vishnu in a proper manner. Religious opinion is that by doing this, the person gets auspicious results in life. Along with this, happiness and good fortune is attained. Apart from this, one gets rid of the obstacles coming in the work.
🕉🚩It is believed that on the occasion of Sharad Purnima, nectar rains from the rays of the moon, which is known as Amrit Kaal. Therefore, on the night of this festival, kheer (Sharad Purnima Kheer Time) is kept in the light of the moon and it is consumed the next day. Apart from this, lighting a lamp on this day gives relief from all the troubles of life. This increases the good fortune of the person.
🕉🚩Sharad Purnima Today🌾
Sharad Purnima fast is also called Kojagar or Kaumudi Vrat. Due to awakening Lakshmi ji, this fast was named Kojagar. Lakshmi Narayan Mahalakshmi and Tulsi are worshipped on this day.
On this day, Shri Krishna created Maharas with the gopis. It is also believed that on this day, Goddess Lakshmi goes out for a walk at night.
Only on this day in the whole year, the moon is full of sixteen arts. It is believed that on this night, nectar falls from the rays of the moon. That is why on this day in North India, there is a tradition of making kheer and keeping it in the moonlight overnight.
Milk contains lactic acid and nectar elements and rice contains starch. These two elements combine with the rays of the moon and gain more power. For this reason, the sages have made a rule of keeping rice kheer under the open sky on the night of Sharad Purnima. This Hindu tradition is based on science.
🕉🚩Sharad Purnima 2024 Date and Time
👉According to the Panchang, the full moon date of Ashwin month will start on October 16 at 08:40 pm. At the same time, this date will end the next day i.e. on October 17 at 04:55 pm. In such a situation, the festival of Sharad Purnima will be celebrated on October 16 (Sharad Purnima 2024 Date). On this day, moonrise will be at 05:05 pm.
🕉🚩Sharad Purnima 2024 Shubh Muhurat
👉Brahma Muhurat - from 04:42 am to 05:32 am
👉Vijay Muhurat - from 02:01 pm to 02:47 pm
👉Godhuli Muhurat - from 05:50 pm to 06:15 pm
👉Nishita Muhurat - from 11:42 pm to 12:32 pm on October 17
🕉🚩Why is Kheer important on Sharad Purnima:
According to such religious belief, on this day, the moon is full of all its 16 phases on Sharad Purnima. In the scriptures, the rays of the moon are considered equivalent to nectar. In such a situation, on Sharad Purnima, nectar rains from the rays of the moon, which has medicinal properties. On the night of Sharad Purnima, the moon is closest to the earth and is full of its sixteen arts. It is believed that due to the medicinal properties in the rays of the moon on Sharad Purnima, many diseases are cured and the mind becomes happy. For this reason, tonight i.e. on the night of October 16, by keeping the kheer made of pure milk, ghee, sugar in the nectar-like moonlight of the full moon, the kheer becomes nectar-like due to the nectar rain and then after this, there is special significance of consuming it the next morning. Therefore, by accepting this kheer as prasad, life force increases and freedom from diseases is obtained. On this day, by lighting a ghee lamp at midnight and performing special worship of Lord Vishnu, Mother Lakshmi and Kuber etc. with full rituals, one also gets excellent results and wealth, happiness, prosperity, wealth, splendor and peace are attained in the house. According to another belief, Mother Lakshmi was born on the day of Sharad Purnima, that is why Lakshmiji is worshipped on Sharad Purnima in many parts of the country. Apart from this, there is also a belief that on Sharad Purnima, Goddess Lakshmi roams the earth with Lord Vishnu and asks her devotees who is awake. For this reason it is also called Kojagar Purnima. In such a situation, by worshiping on Sharad Purnima, Goddess Lakshmi is pleased and blesses with happiness and prosperity. According to another belief, on Sharad Purnima, Lord Krishna performed Maharas with the gopis at night in Vrindavan.
🕉🚩Sharad Purnima 2024: Sharad Purnima Puja Vidhi Mantra and Shubh Muhurta:
On the day of Sharad Purnima, Mother Lakshmi is worshiped, bathing and donation have special significance on Purnima Tithi, this day is best to get the blessings of Mother Lakshmi. Chanting the mantras of Goddess Lakshmi during her worship on Sharad Purnima (Sharad Purnima Kab Hai) celebrated in the month of Ashwin can bring auspicious results. Take a bath in a holy river or
Take a bath by mixing Ganga water in water Perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi Anoint the mother with Ganga water mixed with Panchamrit Now offer red sandalwood, red flowers and makeup items to Maa Lakshmi Light a ghee lamp in the temple If possible, keep a fast and resolve to observe the fast Recite the fast story of Sharad Purnima 🕉🚩Chanting these mantras of Maa Lakshmi on the day of Sharad Purnima will bring wealth and happiness:- 🕉🚩Mantra- 👉Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Prasid Prasid Shreem Hreem Shreem Om Mahalakshmi Namah 👉Om Hreem Shreem Kreem Kleem Shree Lakshmi Mam Grihe Dhan Poorye, Dhan Poorye, Chintayein Dooraye-Dooraye Swaha:. 👉Om Shree Shree Kamlalaye Prasidh Shree Hree Shree Mahalakshmya Namah

Shradh (Pitru Paksha): Ancestral Blessings, Dates, Rituals, and Significance
In the rich tapestry of Vedic traditions within Hinduism, numerous customs, fasts, and festivals celebrate various aspects of life and spirituality. Among these, the Shradh rituals hold a special place, honoring the departed ancestors and seeking their blessings. Shradh, particularly observed during the period known as Pitru Paksha, is a time-honored tradition where descendants offer homage to their ancestors, praying for the peace and satisfaction of their souls.
What is Pitru Paksha?
Pitru Paksha, also known as the fortnight of the ancestors, is a significant period in the Hindu calendar, spanning from the full moon day of the Bhadrapada month to the new moon day of the Ashwin month. This period, according to the Hindu lunar calendar, is dedicated to performing Shradh rituals for deceased ancestors, seeking their blessings, and ensuring their souls’ peace and satisfaction. In 2024, Pitru Paksha begins on September 17 and concludes on October 2.
The Significance of Shradh Rituals
The practice of Shradh dates back to the Vedic period, where it was established as a sacred duty to honor and appease the ancestors. It is believed that only through these rituals can the souls of the ancestors attain peace and salvation. The offerings made during Shradh, particularly the water (Tarpan), are considered vital in bringing tranquility to the departed souls.
The significance of Pitru Paksha is profound. It is believed that a person attains human life after passing through 84 lakh (8.4 million) other births. Thus, performing Shradh is a crucial duty, marking one’s respect and gratitude towards their ancestors. It is said that during Pitru Paksha, the deceased ancestors descend to the earthly realm to receive offerings from their descendants. This period is also associated with the alleviation of Pitra Dosh, a dosha that can cause various hardships in one’s life.
Rituals and Practices during Pitru Paksha
The rituals of Pitru Paksha are carried out with great reverence and devotion. On the Shradh day, the family members wake up before sunrise, take a ritualistic bath, and wear clean clothes. They make a solemn pledge to perform the Shradh and offer donations for the ancestors’ peace. The day is often marked by fasting and preparing sattvik (pure) food with utmost devotion.
The ritual includes setting aside portions of the meal as Gogras (for cows) and Panch Gras (for various creatures) and serving food on a plate in front of the deceased ancestor’s photo. The family prays for the ancestors’ blessings, particularly seeking prosperity, health, and well-being for their children. After offering the food, a Brahmin is fed to his heart’s content, and donations are made as per the family’s capacity. The ritual concludes with feeding the Gogras to cows and the Panch Gras to crows, dogs, and other creatures, symbolizing the offerings to all life forms.
Who Can Perform Shradh?
The right to perform Shradh primarily lies with the eldest son of the deceased. In the absence of a son, the responsibility can be taken up by the deceased’s wife, elder brother, grandson, great-grandson, daughter-in-law, or nephew. The rituals performed during this period, known as Varshika Shradh, are considered highly meritorious, especially when conducted in holy places like Teertha Kshetras.

Our experienced priests conduct these ceremonies with utmost devotion and adherence to Vedic traditions, ensuring that all rituals are performed correctly and respectfully.

Our puja services are conducted amidst the serene environment of the holy Ganga river in Haridwar, providing a divine setting for these sacred rites.
Special Offerings: Godaan and Gaugrass
Godaan, the donation of cows, is considered one of the most auspicious acts during Pitru Paksha. It is believed to help remove obstacles, cleanse sins, and elevate the deceased soul to higher realms. At Shree Krishnayan Gauraksha, we offer Godaan of desi cows, conducted live for transparency and spiritual fulfillment.
Feeding Gaugrass (green grass, wheat bran, and jaggery) to cows is another vital aspect of the Shradh rituals. It is said that whatever is fed to Gaumata (the cow) reaches the ancestors, making them happy and satisfied. This act not only honors the ancestors but also invokes their blessings for prosperity and well-being.
Conclusion
Pitru Paksha is a time of deep reflection, devotion, and reverence for our ancestors. By performing Shradh rituals, we not only pay homage to our forebears but also seek their blessings for our family’s peace, prosperity, and happiness.
