Genuinely one of my favorite details about Ever After High is that the characters who sign the book do still end up following their destiny, just in a completely different way than the story.
This biggest example of this is obviously Apple, and Daring as well.
I’m sure there are others as well, but I’m due for a rewatch.
With this in mind, the episode where Ashlynn is trying to set up her shoe store by noon is 100% the Cinderella story. Hunter is her Prince Charming. Talk to the wall.

Here’s some background:
So in the show, it doesn’t really make much sense how the main gang are the DIRECT descendants of all the fairytale characters, because, y’know, how did they advance in technology THAT FAST? So, my idea is, they are all descendants of the original characters, just, many many years down the line. However, their parents do all share the same names as their fairytale counterparts, for the sake of making sense and not getting jumbled up. So Apple Whites mothers name IS Snow White, but she is not the ORIGINAL Snow White, etc. etc.
Because she was raised by her overbearing mother, Apple is a sort of villain. Think of her as Regina George, but all the “royals” love her because she puts on a show of being kind, not because they fear her. Her wrath is focused on the rebels, trying to keep them in line to follow their destiny. Her clique consists of Briar Beauty (descendant of Sleeping Beauty), Ashlyn Ella (descendant of Cinderella), and Blondilocks (descendant of Goldilocks). Not all of them are villain esque, just Apple and Blondie.
Blondie is sort of like Gretchen from mean girls (“that’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets”). In the show, she likes to report on her mirror cast, I will bring that into the rewrite (sort of), in that she has an anonymous blog, where she spills any secret she can get a hold of.
Briar is similar to how she is in the show. She loves to party, and she’s not sure about following her destiny. The only difference is, she’s a bit more ditzy. But again, she is good.
Ashlynn is also similar to how she is in the show. Kind, compassionate. She is also very intelligent. She is adamant that Briar keep her reservations about following her destiny between them, as she fears Apple will torment her for not wanting to follow her “destiny.” Ashlynn is still in a relationship with Hunter Huntsman (descendant of the huntsman from Snow White) but their relationship is kept even more under wraps, for fear of being ostracized from the royals because of Apple. The only reason she is really friends with Apple is to protect Briar, as they are best friends.
Milton Grimm, the headmaster of EAH, is more ruthless in this version. He and Giles are polar opposites. Milton is THE villain. Pressuring all the students to follow their destinies and striking fear into them if they don’t follow it. He is manipulative and wants Apples family to remain to be at the top of the social hierarchy, as Snow White (Apples mother), still owns many businesses and is very wealthy. She has bribed Milton for many favors in the past. I want to add many other ways to make him an evil tyrant but I can’t think of anything else, ideas would be appreciated!
Giles Grimm, Milton’s brother, is, again, Milton’s polar opposite. Similar to the show, he was trapped under the school by Milton and put under a curse to only speak Riddlish, as to not expose his secrets. His curse will not be broken as easily as it was in the show by the girls gathering pages of a counterspell, but much later it is eventually broken by Maddie and Raven.
Raven is GOOD. After her mother is locked in the mirror prison, she is raised by Cinderella (Ashlynn’s mother, not the original). Cinderella taught her to have courage and be kind (like the quote from the live action Disney film). No one knows Raven was raised by Cinderella, besides Ashlynn, of course, and Maddie since they are best friends. Obviously, Ravens friend group is made up of rebels, as all the royals are turned against her by Apple. Her best friend is obviously Madeline “Maddie” Hatter (descendant of the Mad Hatter), her other friends are Cerise Hood (Daughter of Red Riding hood and (secretly) the Big Bad Wolf), and Cedar Wood (descendant of Pinocchio)
Maddie is basically the same as she is in the show. I love her character so much. There’s nothing to change.
Daring Charming is similar to how he is in the show, except more extreme. Very self-obsessed and wants to keep the order (like Apple). Obviously they are together because they want to follow their destinies. (Sorry to the shippers of Apple and Darling, unfortunately at this point in the rewrite I have no idea how I will incorporate this as Apple is supposed to be obsessed with keeping her and everyone else’s destiny and I want to keep Darling good!)
Dexter Charming is still awkward as ever. He does still love Raven. I want his to eventually be in a relationship with her (in secret of course because of his brother and Apple) I’m not sure how else to develop his character, but I did want to include this
These are the character outlines I have *so far* I might write some scenes that happen throughout if anyone has any requests let me know! 🫶🏻

i'm working on rewrite nonsense and as far as i can tell the Cinderella story is the only story that successfully signed as Ashlynn signed (she makes reference to it in Thronecoming) and Apple did, but then Raven obviously doesn't. but i can't seem to figure out if anyone else would have before Ashlynn? anyone have any ideas?

What’s this EAH au about?
!!!!!! Oh! Ooh! Ooh! Anon, anon!
Um, sorry it's a bit late, but! Hm... well, I'm still not so sure how the plot would go, but what I do know is that some elements would be the same with the original story. Since, y'know, it's an alternate universe. Some universes are similar, yet distinct, and I guess that's what I'm going to try and achieve?
About the AU, I guess it's just fairytale characters figuring out who they are, and where they belong to. The problem I find is that the show is cancelled, so I might make up some things that are completely different.
But other than that though, what I mostly got done are the roles! So, it'll go like this (in my head):
Patton - Apple White
I have to admit, was kinda unsure, but Apple stands for what is right (or what she thinks is right), sweet, all-around, and is loved by nearly everyone. She pushes Raven (daughter of the Evil Queen) to sign the Storybook of Legends, because if she doesn't then they will all poof. Of course, she doesn't want that. It's kinda like a moral coded thing, I guess?
Virgil - Raven Queen
Okay I have to admit too, no one else could perfectly fit this role than Virgil will. It was almost going to be Logan, and maybe he would be great in the role! But I just did a last second change, so... sorry ;w;". Raven isn't evil and mean as her peers make her out to be (that fits Virge), and she's loyal, considerate, and is sarcastic at times. She also likes music, often seen with her headphones (according to the wiki), and she plays guitar, and piano, and also sings when no one else is around.
Roman - Prince Charming
Obviously. There is alot of character development in the series with Charming's character - At the start of the series he's kinda self-absorbed? He's also a narcassist and an egoist. But as time progresses he starts to grow, and he started caring more and grown to be empathetic about other people and started caring less about how he looks. I'm not sure since I haven't watched the recent episodes, but did he become selfless? Oh and he's also a Prince. That just about made me snap and type down Roman. He's also pretty sensetive, and seeing something beautiful is proved to calm him down. (Such as his reflection.)
Remus - Madeline Hatter
Before Remus was introduced it was supposed to be Patton for the role, but after his reveal and seeing his gibberish and Madeline's riddlish? Yeah. Pretty much the main reason. And, to quote a direct quote from the wiki, "She is psychic and has the ability to hear the narrators, as well as see into the future, although this is often dismissed as insanity." Which is fair. She's also bright, energetic, and I think the only difference is that she's extremely kind. She also has a tea buddy- or a pet rat. Which is self-explanatory. And Wonderland is a pretty wacky place to live in.
Deciet - Kitty Cheshire (Unsure)
Yeah, not so sure about his role. But the idea here is that - If he's Kitty, then that means he's just a little shit who likes to wreak havoc. (See example, a quote from the series: "Chaos keeps people guessing, and that makes this kitty purr...") Would've been Remus now that I think about it, but she's sly, agile like a normal kitty would be, and is pretty cunning and mischevious. Something I think would fit Deciet. But in truth she is kindhearted, and cares for her friends and doesn't want to be fully antagonistic, despite her doings. Also she's cute man, and has animal-like feautures and even adopts some of their behaviours. (For her it's cat-like. For Deciet, in canon, his appearance is snake-like. He also hisses.)
Logan - Dexter Charming/Darling Charming (Unsure)
I don't know other than sweet Analogical. For Dexter - Dexter is... a nerd. But is pretty open about his emotions. He's kinda like early-Logan. Darling is adventorous, doesn't really like her role as a damsel in distress, and seeks a new path like becoming the White Knight! How that would relate with Logan is more like my fanon thinking. But I don't know - It might change, he might be Cerise Hood if I wanted. Maybe even Rosabella Beauty. But for Logan overall, I'm still not so sure about.
Aaand a tiny little bonus:
Remy - Briar Beauty
She loves to party. But, the reason for that is because she gets to sleep for a thousand years, and she wants to make the most of it before her eyes are done closed. I got this from that scene... not sure what episode, but Apple and Briar are arguing and Apple's questioning Briar's reasoning. She's also pretty sassy, kind, and loving. That's all I have for now. Oh and also, she can just fall down and sleep at random periods of time. (And sleeping is lowkey Remy's job, lmao)
Emile - Ashlynn Ella
She's soft. She loves shoes (obviously. She's Cinderella's daughter), nature, and her friends! She's also hardworking, which she inherited from her mother, and I guess that could be connected with Emile? She also has this job at The Glass Slipper, to indulge in her obsession and utilize her hardworking attitude. And for the obsession part, we all know Emile absolutely loves cartoons, right? Yeah... that's kinda most of my reasoning. She's also best friends with Apple, and that basically means Emile and Patton are BFFs in this AU which I think, is hex-cellent.
That's all what I have right now basically - I might twist and tweak some details to make it fit for both the original characters and the sides (+ Remy and Emile)! So I'll probably end that here I think. I'm already smitten with this AU, as you can probably tell lol

Hey!! So I’m really sorry to have to break it to you like this….but no, its not likely that the characters would have to go through that same fate. For various reasons actually.
The thing is while it is true that Ever After High has their version of the brothers grimm as the headmasters of the school, it was more because the real brothers Grimm were well known to collect already existing fairytales and retell them for print. In fact most of the stories as we know them in ever after high canon take after other versions of their fairytale which were not written by the grimm brothers. Also, I know that they were known for putting some pretty dark stuff in their stories but I can assure you there were plenty of stories adapted by them that while they did have dark elements, the stories themselves didn’t end darkly. Some did but by no means all of them. We also need to take into consideration that EAH includes fairytales that the Grimm brothers never had a hand in adaptating, mostly cause a good amount of said fairytales came out way after the brothers had passed away. Think The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Snow Queen, ect. And putting that aside theres also the fact that like I mentioned earlier, alot of the fairytales present in ever after high canon dont even take after their Grimm adaptations, instead taking after another version written by other authors who might have popularized the fairytale, such as Charles Perrault. With that here are a few examples of what I mean(obviously I can’t name every example because then we’d be here forever):
I’ll start with Cinderella cause this is the most prominent example in my point. I can confirm for you that like most modern media, EAH references the Charles Perrault version of the Cinderella fairytale. This version features everything that has made Cinderella iconic, from the glass slipper to the pumpkin transformation and the fairy godmother. All of these are very much present in ever after high canon. Now the brothers Grimm version of the Cinderella fairytale is famous for being very gruesome and dark, with the stepsisters cutting off their toes and later getting their eyes pecked out by birds. However what alot of people seem to miss is that most of the elements present in Perraults version (aka the most well known version today) are completely absent or changed in Grimm’s version. Because sure the slipper is still a key element but its not made out of glass like in Perraults version, its made out of gold. The ballgown and carriage are not provided by a fairy godmother, but instead by a magical wishing tree that Cinderella grows out of a branch after planting it on her mother’s grave and constantly watering it with her tears. There isnt a single reference in Ever After High canon that exclusively points to the brothers grimm version of the story. So with that said, I can safely tell you that no, Ashlynn’s stepsisters wont have to mutilate their feet or get their eyes pecked out by the end. It should also be noted Perrault popularized the stories he wrote enough that to this day we remember the tales by the names he came up with. In Cinderella’s case, we know the story as Cinderella. Perrault was the one who came up with the title “Cinderella” (Cendrillon in french). However when the Grimm brothers adapted it, it was renamed as “The Ash Maiden” (Ashenputtel in german). This is a pattern you’ll notice with the following examples. The Grimm brothers often renamed their versions of already existing fairytales but even then, Perraults titles would be the ones that ultimately got more recognition in modern media.
Next I’ll be discussing Sleeping Beauty. For starters I should mention that while yes, Sleeping Beauty’s origins are dark, the brothers Grimm version of the story is actually super tame and one of the most recent version of the classic tale. In this version nothing really dark happens. The darkest thing that is mentioned is that during the hundred years, many princes attempt to enter the castle and die in the hedge of thorns, but even that’s extremely glossed over. Other than that nothing bad really happens. On a different note, the version that often gets credited as the origin of the fairytale is non other than “Sun, Moon, and Talia” written by Giambattista Basile. And let me tell you, this version is straight f&cked to say the least. This is the disturbing origin where she gets sxually @ss@ulted in her sleep only to be woken up 9 months later by her infant child sucking on her finger and removing the splinter of flax from it. Not to mention that theres a whole other second part to the story which features even more disturbing themes which I’m not gonna get into. However, I can also confirm that we can safely cross out this version out because disturbing themes aside, this version has a lot of diffrences from the later, more well known versions. Two of these major key differences being that in this version she doesn’t even technically get cursed. Legit the day she’s born, astrologers just come into the room and predict that she’ll be put in danger of a splinter of flax. They predict it but no witchcraft is actually involved to cast a curse of sorts. So in Basile’s version, the Dark Fairy straight up doesn’t exist as a character. The second thing being that its not even specified for how many years shes asleep, but its definitely not a hundred. So again, ever after high doesn’t reference a single thing thats exclusive to this version of the story, so thats safely off the list. Now as for which version of Sleeping Beauty is actually referenced in Ever After High canon…well…its a combination of Grimm and Perraults versions. And even then, this also seems to be how most modern media adapts it. Now the best way to describe it really is that its the story as the Grimm brothers tell it but it has a few elements that were exclusive to Perrault’s version. In Grimm’s version, the story ends after she wakes and gets married. In Perraults version, the story is extended until after their marriage and having kids, introducing a whole other conflict in the while. EAH’s interpretation of the story takes after Grimm in the sense that the story ends right after she wakes up. However, we also get a few elements that are exclusive to the Perrault version. For example, the fact that it was fairies who came to the christening. In Grimm’s version, rather than fairies, the women who show up at the christening are instead referred to as “wise women”. It was Perrault who came up with the concept of literal fairies coming to give their blessings at the christening. Right off the bat, EAH references that aspect of Perraults version with Faybelle, who is the next Dark Fairy, and the 6 fairy cheerhexers. Another thing that is closer to Perraults version is the fact that number of fairies is confirmed to be 7 in EAH canon. This would be closer given that in Perraults version, there are 8 fairies, while in the brothers Grimm version there are 13 wise women. Lastly similar with Cinderella, it was Perrault who came up with the iconic title that we recognize the tale by. He was the one who came up with the title “Sleeping Beauty” or the long version “The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood” (La Belle au Bois Dormant in french). The brothers Grimm however renamed their version of the story “Little Briar Rose” (Dornröschen in German). So given that EAH references both of these versions in its canon, but takes its ending explicitly from the Grimm version, I can ASSURE you, nothing too messed up happens.
Now this post was WAYYY longer than I expected, and I actually had more planned to write, but I’ll leave it here. Theres alot of similar cases with other fairytales that had different versions written by different authors like the two I mentioned above, such as Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel. But just know that while yes, many stories included in EAH have a version written by the brothers grimm, alot of them take after a different version that just so happened to be more popular. Like I said, I believe the only reason as to why the Grimm brothers got chosen to represent the school in this series is because they were famous for COLLECTING fairytales rather than writing their own.
I just realized about something in Ever After High-
Considering all Grimm Brother stories end in the most darkest way possible does that mean all the characters from ever After High have the same fate?
Cause it sure seems like it after learning about a few things from the show itself and a whole lot of research on the books too and the most obvious part about the Grimm Brothers actually being in the show itself!
