Hello I was wondering if u did crossovers bc I got a crazy idea. What if u did a cross over with the villainess is a marionette, villains are destined dj die, and the way to protect the female lead? Like she is Penelope’s sister and she keeps getting transported in other worlds by mistake? And they’re all Yandere fore her? U obviously doing have to do this but this is just a e crazy idea 😅

(cool idea, but it's just blood.... Also Ashil passed his test and lived because I wanted him too!)

※You formed a big companionship with Callisto, the crown prince who later on fell for Penelope and kept her close with him to keep you near him as well.

※When you grew up, the Eckharts learnt about your power and all your family loved you, then it was time to train your power, upon moving to one of the places you ended up bruised and fainted in a huge garden, when you woke up there was a beautiful man sleeping in a chair next to you, he looked extremely regal; He had short blonde hair with blue eyes and pretty lips with lashes, as you sat up in bed someone held your shoulder and slowly fluffed up your pillows, it was a girl who looked similar to the man sitting in the chair, she was one of the prettiest lady you had ever met, she had long blonde hair with shining blue eyes with pretty lashes and red lips.

※You later on learned their names, Cayena and Rezef Hill, they both were half siblings and the next emperor and princess in line for the throne

※You quickly managed to befriend them both, those two would spoil you rotten and also tried to keep you with them for as long as possible, you also met Cayena’s fiancée and half-brother, Raffealo Kedrey and Ethel Hill, both of whom you also happen to quickly befriend.

※They quickly became big yanderes for you, and upon learning how you got here and your power, they decided to slowly teach you about it, but not let you leave them, which was a big thing. They thought to keep you with them, while letting you visit your family for a few days every five months.

※So, once when Rezef was training you, you accidently ended up in a large, bloody field in someone’s arms, as you as you fell in their arms you fainted from exhaustion, but before you fainted you saw black grey hair with red eyes.

※As you woke up, you were in a huge red room completely bandaged, as you sat up you saw the door open, with three people entering, the man whom you saw before with a younger version of him and a gorgeous lady with blonde hair and ruby red eyes, with plump, red lips and a sharp face. The man who caught you was named Lant Agriche, his younger version was his son, named Dion Agriche and the lady was his beloved daughter, called Roxanne Agriche, you had ended up in the manor of Black Agriche.

※Lant had saw you falling from the sky and quickly caught you before you fainted in his arms, he saw your face and was mesmerized by it?...You don’t understand but that’s what Roxanne said, he brought you back to the manor carrying your princess style shocking everyone there, seeing the head of the family holding someone so tenderly, even more a beautiful person.

※You quickly took over the head’s heart as a dear child and he decided to make sure you were kept as safely as possible only letting a few people see you when you were knocked out for the days, them being only Sierra and Ashil, and maybe Roxanne on days when Lant was in very good mood.

※Ashil would describe you to Roxanne, Roxanne when she first got to see you was mesmerized by you, you were very pretty. She would constantly try to make Lant happy so he would let her see you.

※Sierra on the other hand would look after you, along with Ashil who would try to find some books on how to cure you fatser.

※Everybody in the Agriche manor wanted to see you, the lucky servants would tell about you to other servants who were asking them about you, everybody was curiously waiting for you to quickly heal so they could also see you and meet, including Grizelda, Fontaine, Maria, Jeremy, Charlotte, Dion and many more, I mean who wouldn’t be if they saw Lant carrying someone so tenderly.

※Now back to the present, as you sat up and saw the three come in and take a seat on the chair near your bed, Lant immediately put his hand on your shoulder and laid you back on the bed, while the other two sat on the other side.

※As the doctor came and checked up on you and gave you shots, Lant held your tiny hand in his, often using his other hand to stroke your hair and warm face with tenderness, which shocked the other two more.

※You quickly became the favorite between the Agriches, Dion loved you so much, you got gifts, sweets, treats, party invites and much, much more constantly.

��But you were also kept locked up in a room for hours on end, unless Lant would visit you with a beaming smile on his face, you were kept like this in the Eckhart manor as well, so it didn’t faze you.

※You would then by taught by the three family how to use your power and learn about it, so they can make a place where you power won’t work so you can’t teleport away from them anymore.

※Other than this type of behavior, you loved your families very much, you introduced everyone to each other, Roxanne, Cayena and Penelope got along very well always talking shit about someone they don’t like, Rezef, Callisto and Dion also became good friends often teaching each other if they tried to get to close to you their favorite torture methods, Jeremy and Reynold made a normal companionship and Sierra and Ashil became very close with Yvonne and Vinter, they would be the kindest to you and the most patient with you as well.

※You would often unknowingly cause arguments between the families, especially Rezef, Ashil, Callisto and Dion when you said your favorite brother was Ashil, he became a bit cocky for some time to the others people of his new found families and his own family.

※Everyone accepted each other, mainly because they all enjoyed blood, you would mostly be in the eyes of Lant, Dion, Ashil or Callisto, no one else because they all fall prey to your puppy eyes.

※They all end those people’s life in the most horrific way, the ones who tried to hurt you or get you away from them in any way.

※They love you so much, aren’t you happy having such a large family!!!

She held an emerald studded dagger in her hands admiring the beautifully carved piece that she had purchased from the market this evening. She did not put on an innocent façade however people did not expect her to be cruel. She was a nice girl willing to help anyone in need. Despite her unmatched goddess-like beauty, she was sent from the greatest depths of hell to bring despair into the hearts of those who dared to get close to her. She had been on earth before, what pitiful creatures those humans truly were, working their entire lives to please someone, being a prisoner of their own mind. How absolutely pathetic.

Y/n had fallen from grace. She was once the right hand woman of God himself. The devil was real, and it was not a little red man with giant horns. She was beautiful, but hurt because she used to be god's favorite. White had always been her color since she was an angel, however god himself soon started to fall for the beauty and when she rejected his advances his enraged self threw her into hell, giving her to the devil himself. Life in the underworld was not bad at all. Her once favorite color white was now her most despised color. ‘Besides red suits me more’ she thought. Today was an awfully boring day. Nothing to do. She looked into the list of people who were destined to go to hell and found the name ‘Agriche’. Agriche… Ashil Agriche… She had met Ashil when she was an angel. He was a good friend of hers. The least she could do is check over his so-called sister. Hiding her horns with the help of magic she teleposted herself into the Agriche mansion.

Hopefully those humans could entertain her for a while. Dion Agriche was the first to notice her, ignoring her beauty and charm, he walked towards her with a straight face and pointed a sword at her neck. Y/n seemed visibly annoyed but now was not the time to give away the fact that she was inhuman. She glared daggers at Dion and Dion felt amused. How was y/n not afraid of him was beyond him? Usually everyone is afraid of him. Dion grabbed her wrist roughly and took her to their father.

When he saw y/n he was debating whether or not to make her his 5th wife.

“Why were you inside the Agriche estate?,” Lant sharply spoke

“I don’t know, I was in my house and then all of a sudden I ended up here,” Y/n spoke back with equal confidence.

Lant was pleased with her answer and showed her around the estate.

“Say Lady Y/n why don’t you stay with us until we get to the bottom of this situation,” Lant asked

‘Perfect. I wanted to have some fun anyway’ y/n thought

“Thank you so much for this, you are very kind,” Y/n cheered.

Lant winced when she called him ‘kind’ and smirked ‘What a naïve girl’ he thought.

“Dionnnnnnnnnn~” The girl walked towards him.

“Are you going anywhere?” She asked.

“Yes.” he said and continued walking

He did not feel like talking to this woman. She was indeed beautiful but beauty only went so far and he was truly uninterested in this lady.

“Can I come with you?” She asked

“No” a very simple answer really, but no one ever said ‘no’ to y/n so she continued to follow him. Eventually he gave up and let her walk with him.

While walking she noticed a store with chocolate and screamed.

It had been so long since she had chocolate. Clinging onto Dion’s arm she started to poke his side.

“Dion~~ Could we please~~ get some chocolate~~?” She asked chest on his arm while staring at him like an enchantress

This lady was unbelievable. She was seducing him into getting her chocolate.

Dion sighed walking towards the store. It was very hard to say no to y/n because she never took no for an answer. He brought a box of chocolates for y/n and handed it to her. As she was busy eating he picked a chocolate from the box curious to see how it tasted and why y/n made such a big fuss over getting it.

As he felt the sweet liquid melt on his tongue he understood why she liked it so much. ‘It's delicious,'' he thought and picked another one from the box. He then walked towards the shopkeeper again and said, “I’ll have 10 of those boxes”. Y/n could help but smile slyly, ‘He likes my chocolate’.

As they were walking back Y/n kept talking and Dion was enjoying listening to her. Whenever she spoke his heart beat faster and faster. Perhaps he was falling in love with her. Dion gave her a genuine smile on the way back which did not go unnoticed by her as she smiled back in response making Dion blush.

Y/n was walking around the estate because she heard that there was a pretty girl slightly younger than Dion. She had overheard maids talking about Roxana. The maids were calling Roxana all kinds of names behind her back. Y/n couldn’t help but feel disgusted as the maids gossiped. ‘They are servants. They should know their place’ she sneered in annoyance. She was off to find Roxana because she wanted to meet another girl. Y/n met face to face with another woman that seemed to be the exact physical age as her. She was a ravishing woman with blonde hair and the infamous red Agriche eyes. Roxana also thought that y/n was the most beautiful woman she had ever seen with her striking e/c eyes and h/c hair that framed her face so perfectly.

“May I help you?,” Roxana asked

She had heard about a woman living in the Agriche estate through her servants.

“Yes, I was looking to spend some time with you,” y/n said

“Perhaps, a game of chess?”

“Of course, I happen to be unbeatable at that game”

Roxana sighed… this was the fourth time in a span of an hour that she had lost to Y/n. Despite losing numerous times Roxana couldn’t help but find this very entertaining. It was fun having someone to interact with besides Jeremy. Roxana was so invested in the fun they were having she completely forgot about her cold Agriche act. She didn’t feel like an Agriche, she felt like a normal woman..like she used to be before she reincarnated into the novel. This was so fun. She was having a blast! They eventually stopped playing chess and started to gossip about people in the family, pretty jewelry, nice dresses, their favorite novels and plays. Morning had turned into night and the girls were still laughing.

Jeremy heard about this new girl from his sister. Roxana spoke of the girl so fondly that he had to know more about her. He was walking towards the guest room, where she had been staying. He couldn’t help but feel slight nervousness…. What if he messed up? Roxie seemed to adore the girl… If I mess up Roxie will hate me! He must do his best to win this girl's favor. Y/n was braiding her hair dressed in a silk nightgown getting ready to sleep after all it was extremely dark out and she had a long day avoiding Fountaine’s advances. As she was about the turn the lights of a boy walked into her room. He was much younger than her and she was slightly taller than him. He shyly rubbed his neck and asked, “You weren’t about to sleep were you?”, “Nonsense, I don’t sleep until much later,” she lied. “Now what brings you here kid?” she asked. “Uhhh well............. IHAVEBEENHEARINGALOTABOUTYOUANDIWANTEDTOMEETYOU” He blurted. She laughed. What a cute brother Roxana has. “Alright, well what would you like to do?” She asked the boy. “I just wanna spend time with you.”.

“Say Jeremy, do you like music?,” She inquired

His eyes lit up, he loved music. He had often heard it when performers came to the estate and enjoyed it despite pretending it was the worst thing he heard

“Why don’t I sing for you?” Y/n asked

Jeremy lay down on her lap and closed his eyes. Y/n’s sisterly instincts kicked in and she started to brush his hair while singing the most beautiful song Jeremy had ever heard.

“You have the voice of a Siren Miss.” He grinned

Y/n smiled softly. She was indeed a devil and siren-like singing was an ability that she possessed.

Feeling drowsy from the beautiful singing Jeremy fell asleep and y/n had to place him on the couch.

“Good night Jeremy.” She felt so warm. Perhaps she had a younger sibling when she used to be human.

After her death as a human she had been taken to heaven and from then on everything took place. She did not remember her life as a human at all but Jeremy felt nice to be around.

You were relaxing on your balcony reading a book, when you saw a brown haired girl with striking ruby eyes a few shades darker than Roxana’s picking roses. You loved roses and called out to her.

“Such pretty flowers aren’t they miss?” You yelled out.

“Yes, they are very elegant,” she replied back

Wanting to socialize with the pretty girl you jumped out of your balcony landing perfectly gracefully on your feet. Leaving Grizelda in shock.

‘How could someone possibly jump from a two story balcony without getting hurt? How interesting…’ she thought.

“I thought I should join you Miss…”

“Grizelda…its Grizelda, you must be y/n!”

“ I have heard a lot about you y/n dear” Grizelda looked your way

“You know, y/n you are very beautiful..” Grizelda sighed taking in your features

“No you, lady Grizelda. You're so pretty.” You shot back.

“Nonsense, I'm not half as beautiful as you,” Grizelda laughed.

You handed Grizellda a ruby hair pin from the pocket of your gown.

“I think it would go well with your dress” You said, handing her the shiny jewel.

“Ah…such a beautiful jewel.. However, I can't reach it,” Grizelda sighed. Attempting to put it on her hair.

Y/n took the jewel from her hand and went behind her, pinning the gold snake with ruby eyes onto the crown of her head. It truly did suit her. She went and took a look in one of the moss covered mirrors in the garden.

“Oh it looks so nice, you have wonderful taste lady y/n!” Grizelda whispered, admiring herself in the mirror.

Both girls spent the rest of the morning chit chatting around the gardens about their favorite novels and gemstones.

Charlotte felt happy, perhaps this is what the love she has never received feels like. It was warm, she liked it.

Charlotte now knew that she had to do whatever was possible to earn the girls attention and love!

Smiling like a puppy Charlotte embraced the girl back.

“Will you come with me to see my jewel collection sister y/n~” Charlotte tried her best puppy eyes

She saw the horrifying scene where the maids' corpse bled out and the cut was at such an angle that her ribcage was visible. What a truly gruesome scene this was. However it didn’t bother y/n much as she was used to seeing corpses. She felt a little bad for the blonde woman and walked towards her. Patting her back gently y/n tried soothing her with her sweet talk. Sierra was starting to calm down as she clung onto the h/c girl for her life. Y/n just gently ruffled her hair… and tried to be as patient as possible with this woman. After an hour of trying and bringing the woman to y/n’s room she finally calmed down.

“I-its just *hic* everyone in this house is so *hic* cruel…. And my sweet baby Roxana became like them *hic* too,” the woman shrieked. “They- they killed my other baby..”

“I-im sorry my sweet baby I wish I would have been there. Your mother is so weak. I-its been so *hic* long since I last have seen my son LOST TO THESE MONSTERS and the man behind his death was none other than *hic* Maria’s son” She was weeping uncontrollably. Nevertheless whatever had happened to the woman was brutal, she felt all alone in this mansion filled with monsters, the poor woman. Embracing her out of pure pity you started to reason with her.

“I’m sure your son is in a better place now, besides if he was anything like you he would have hated being here anyway. In a way death has saved him from the cruel fate Roxana had gone through” Y/n said hugging the petrified woman.

Y/n is so warm….

I haven’t felt this kind of warmth in so long….

I will protect now. I will not let anyone kill her. She- she is very important to me. I will do my best.

Sierra left y/n’s room passionately smiling for the first time in forever.

Maria Agriche had invited y/n to her tea party. It would be just her, Maria and Sierra. Y/n was glad. She wanted to see Sierra again. Hopefully she is doing better. As she reached she saw that there was a round table in the middle of the garden decorated so beautifully. She saw a brunette woman with purple eyes seated on one of the three seats. ‘Sierra must have not arrived yet’ y/n thought. Maria’s eyes lit up when she saw y/n. ‘Oh what a beauty, the rumors did not do her any justice’ Maria thought. “Oh my! Your Lants wife? You look so young, I could almost mistake you for a porcelain doll!” Y/n exclaimed. “Oh stop it, you flatter me too much.” Maria blushed looking away. ‘So she is the girl that Dion fancies, hmph she is far too good for him. She would be much better for me instead,' Maria thought.

Sierra showed up just in time. Her eyes lit up when she saw y/n. This did not go unnoticed by Maria.

“Have the two of you met before?” Maria asked

“You could say that~” Y/n smiled

Despite being the devil herself y/n had managed to save everyone in the Agriche. She had managed to carve a way into everyone's hearts and no one wanted her to leave. Perhaps she would stay on earth for a few thousand years.

->Other than cassis or anyone who is not part of agriche,roxana is someone you can rely on to not harm you in certain ways.but you know better than to judge her kind nature to you,since she can be extremely dangerous to anyone who dares to hurt you.

->But let's start off with how you two met.

->You were the youngest child of the pedelian's,and you were just accompanying your older brother when all of a sudden you two were ambushed by the guards of agriche.that is how you two ended up here.

->But you were unconsious,and since roxana recognizes you as the youngest child of roussel(?) pedelian,who plays a very important role from the novel,she can't let you die by the hands of her siblings,especially dion.

->Now,your role from the novel is simple.you are the unfortunate soul captured by the matriach of the house she lives in,lant agriche.he captured you so he can get see the blissful tortured face of your father if he found out what he has been doing to you.and when i say "things",i meant letting his children and himself almost torture you to death,driving you to the point that it almost made you insane.(who wouldn't tbh?)

->And eventually,in the novel,you were the one to free your sister sylvia from the clutches of her little brother jeremy,who is one of the male lead's.although,for a cost of you having to die leading your older sister go manic after she learnt your death just right after hearing her brother's.

->Roxana knew she can't let that happen,also for the reason why that you were kinda her favorite character when she still wasn't roxana.you were still fighting and hanging to the last bit of you're sanity just so you can free your sister from the lovesick male leads who are downright obsessed with her.So,that was half of the reason why she can't let you and you're brother die in this hellish house she called "home".

->After you woke up,you felt you were in someone's lap.panic rose up right until you hear roxana's voice.

->"Calm down...i will not lay a hand on you.and if you're wondering where you are,or your brother is,he is right there." Roxana pointed her finger at the left corner of the dark cell,where you see cassis with a collar hanging around his neck but suprised to see him actually getting comfortable.

->Roxana explained you were out for three days straight and she has no intention on hurting you or your brother which of course you didn't believe her if it weren't for cassis telling that she wasn't lying.

->You did still had some doubts tho.

->But that disappears when she continues to care for you and you're brother,you,just like cassis,managed to see through her mask that she was only putting a show for her family so she won't get herself or you two killed.You suspect that maybe her family traumatized her badly that it costed her thirst to survive so it won't happend to her.

->And when the tea party arc came,where cassis and you tries to escape only for jeremy and dion to caught you.of course you quickly learned that the red-eyed man who has a close resemblance to the head of agriche,was the most dangerous child of lant himself.like father,like son indeed.

->You managed to hold jeremy off but you got yourself distracted by dion attacking a beautiful woman who has a close resemblance to roxana which makes you think it was her mother.You of course felt sympathy for her when she starts begging her son-in-law to not kill this "ashil" made you think that dion was the one to kill her son.

->And of course jeremy got a hold of you,before her started complaining about you and casiss taking his older sister's precious time and attnetion away from him.Just right before he can stomp you're face,roxana appears to stop him.

->She gave him a glare which is enough to stop him from beating you,and gave a harsh slap to dion's face.After that,she brought you and casiss back to your cells and healing you're bodies since jeremy and dion really did gave you a beating that pretty much damages your body parts.

->The time she fell inlove with you was when you asked her about her family,specifically her brother.she was hesitant on answering you,if it weren't for the fact you're eyes were gazing at her with sympathy.an emotion she didn't even know existed until you(and your brother)came.

->She talked about how her brother,ashil,failed one of the monthly tasks that was given to him.She learned that it was the chambers of hallucination,and when he saw a hallucination of her,he can't bring himself to kill his own sister,and that was that.

->It was this day that you figured that....maybe some of lant agriche's children are manipulated,neglected,unloved,abused,to the point they had to forced themselves to be strong to survive the insanity of this house or to get the attention they wanted from their so called father.

->You can see in her eyes the absolute sorrow in roxana's eyes so you comforted her in the best ways you could,secretly making her swoon.

->And when the day the agriche has fallen,you reach your hand out to her,gesturing for her to take it so she can live the rest of her life with you.a place where she can openly say what she wanted,a place where she can smile freely,a palce where she doesn't need to be on guard all the time.

->She will never regretted the decision of her taking you're hand.

I'd def still recommend the book so I'm putting spoilers under the cut but here's my thots

I feel like using orciny as a red herring was a bad call bc the truth was just. significantly less interesting to me 😭 when yolanda pointed out that breach and orciny might be one in the same I was pretty excited bc that seemed like a narratively well-earned Conspiracy and thought it could raise some interesting questions about breach and their motives but no... save for dr. bowden's personal reasons it was just some fully unrelated guys smuggling out artifacts for money and breach was actually just a pretty standard police force with no ulterior motivations

like just in general I feel like breach was. way too normal? that line where tyador says they're "good as bogeymen, but bad at [being cops]" is kind of how I felt while reading it

like you have this terrifying omnipresent paranormal force and then when they finally become a big part of the story and abduct the main character they're just like. regular and reasonable guys. like just normal guys doing their job. just didn't feel very compelling to me compared to what was set up. I feel like mieville realized that because he would throw in strange details like ashil's fucked up gun or tyador being stuck in a dark void for a while after his capture but ultimately this did not save the reality of breach from striking me as extremely anticlimactic

also feels kind of weird to me that breach is never meaningfully questioned? like the protagonist is a cop so I don't think the book needed to end with him Radicalized Against The Status Quo, honestly him just moving up the ladder to become an even more powerful cop within the system and not really questioning it makes sense to me as a progression of his character, but also like. man it's an extrajudicial and murderous police force that exists entirely to enforce arbitrary national borders by imprisoning and killing people without trial and I feel like the book intended us to be on their side at the end there. like they were pretty unequivocally the Good Guys of this scenario

not entirely sure how I feel abt that bc once again I think it makes sense for the main character and he is the narrator but. just struck me as weird, I feel like there was a lot to be said there that wasn't said

it's like. I loved the setting and concept of beszel/ul qoma so so so much and I thought it was written in an extremely compelling way when it was being explored but like. it seems to me that the primary narrative Point of such a setting is to satirize/reflect on the idea of national borders and national identity in general and when the book's conclusion is just 'the status quo is never challenged and the relatively virtuous protagonist unquestioningly joins the Super Border Police who have just rightfully avenged the murder of an innocent woman' it just feels like a real missed opportunity to really interrogate those themes of nationalism and law

sort of disappointed with the ending of city and the city tbh I feel like mieville is phenomenal at writing a setting but bad at writing a mystery

reader is referred to as 'they/them' throughout the entire story-! and reader, roxana are referred to as children at one point by reader's aunt

also not a happy ending. (sorry, but do you know how hard it is to write good endings for agriche?)

warnings: violence, roxana has a dream of ashil's death, maria is a whole warning in herself, basically the agriche and you lot know what kind of people they are,,, angst at the end

𝐑𝐨𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞 faced every new day more hatefully than she did the previous one.

It is kind of impossible to retain your purity, your decency, your humanity, once you're in the grasp of the Black Agriche.

And she is not any different.

At least up until a certain point.

'L-lady Roxana,' A trembling maid stutters out, 'the head is looking for you.'

'Very well.' If Lant is looking for her she doesn't really have a choice, does she?

'You called, Father?' She bends slightly and plasters a (fake) smile on her face. Lant looks up and she represses a shudder. Everyday he gets uglier.

'Yes, Roxana. I assume all the preparations are complete?'

'Of course, Father. You will not be disappointed.'

'You have turned out much better than you brother, what was his name, Ahil,'

'If you are talking about my brother who died, his name was not Ahil, but Ashil.'

'Well, that is not what I called you here for. I need to form an alliance with a neighboring noble family, but they keep stubbornly refusing. and they have a child who is roughly the same age as you. i want you to get close to their daughter, so we can use them to form an alliance with their family. '

Roxana feels slight pity stir up in her heart for this person, but nonetheless, she smiles, 'Yes, Father.'

'Emily.'

Emily's expression is controlled, like always. 'Yes, my lady.'

'Send out on an invitation to the third child of the neighboring family, to meet me for tea tomorrow afternoon.'

'Understood, my lady.'

After Emily leaves, Roxana drops her normal pretense, collapsing into a chair. This person, to whom Roxana just sent a friendly tea party invitation, had no idea what they were entering, that the Agriche were something like hell on earth.

Well, time doesn't slow down, and tomorrow arrives. Roxana heads downstairs with a kind of dread welling up in the back of her throat. She doesn't even know what kind of person they'll be. What if they're just as unhinged as the Agriche and that's why Lant wants an alliance with them?

But they're not anything like the agriche. They're sitting down and looking around the gardens with mild interest and sparkling eyes. When Roxana enters the room, they stand up. 'Lady Roxana.'

'Please, take a seat.' Roxana cordially replies. 'How are you doing?'

'Oh, I'm alright, what about you, Lady Roxana?'

'Just like always. So...'

The conversation flutters past easily and Roxana is amazed by how easy it is to talk to them--just as easy as it was to talk to Ashil. They don't revere Roxana but neither do they fear her--they just treat her like a normal person, and it's lovely.

Eventually, the peace is interrupted by the arrival of the one Agriche that even the other Agriches dread--Maria. And of course, she's dragging Sierra and a few 'dolls' along with her.

Roxana swallows hard and looks at her newfound companion. Will they be unnerved? Terrified? Disgusted? She can't blame them for any of those emotions. She herself holds so much resentment towards each and everyone in this house, except perhaps her mother.

'Ana.' Sierra weakly calls out. The presence of her daughter, Maria and Maria's dolls seems to be all too much for her to handle.

Roxana exhales and stands up. The person sitting across from her is watching the proceedings with a curious look on their face. 'Mother.' Roxana says, and then turning to Maria, 'Lady Maria. I am in the middle of hosting a guest, so if you could please-'

'Ah, yes! You're the third child of that family's head!' Maria snaps her fingers at them, and they don't flinch but watch her with polite intrigue. 'Ah, they'd look so pretty as a doll. Don't you agree, Sierra?'

Sierra's helpless eyes connect with the other person's. 'Uhm-Maria, I-!'

Roxana taps her foot impatiently against the ground. 'Mother, Lady Maria, please leave. You might leave a bad impression on my guest.'

Maria tuts, 'you're no fun, Roxana!' but eventually-finally-she leaves.

Roxana looks at them. 'I apologize, I-'

'No need.' They airily shake off the incident. 'Sit down, Lady, and don't trouble yourself over the little things.'

'Roxie!' Ashil is crying from inside the room where he's supposed to kill the target. 'Not Roxie--not mother--please...'

The slice of a sword, the scream of a young boy, and Ashil's now limp body falls into the ground.

Roxana shoots up from her bed, her breathing fast, her chest feeling strangely hollow. She clutches at her heart, which is physically hurting her. Looking at the clock, she realizes with a pang that it's almost 8:00 AM. Dion will be returning soon.

Facing her brother's murderer after reliving his death leaves a rather sour taste in her mouth, but she stands and dresses for the day.

A few days later, they meet with Roxana again. This time Roxana goes over to their place, marveling at the sheer happiness and love their family radiates.

Their aunt beckons Roxana into her embrace. 'Oh, dear. You're more beautiful than I could ever have thought! Make yourself at ease, my dear.'

Then they bounce down the staircase. 'Lady Roxana-I see you've met my aunt! Come, I've prepared some games. Care to try me at chess?'

It's a day like Roxana's never known before. After a heated, intense game of chess, she's led down to the vast garden and meets their cousins, and brother (who is so nonchalant about her that you'd think she was a kid off the streets and not the daughter of Agriche). Roxana is persuaded by her newfound friend, and they, Roxana, their brother and cousins all engage in a round of games like running races and contests of who can climb trees the fastest, and after this tea is served and the five exhausted children eat ravenously.

As evening draws to a close, the time of Roxana's departure arrives. After her marvelous experience of the day, to return to the dreary Agriche is almost unbearable. But of course, she has to return, and perhaps she should thank Lant for making her meet them.

Before she leaves, they see her off at the gate and engulf her in a huge hug. 'I really hope you had fun, Lady Roxana.'

The feeling of being held in someone's warmth, being treated like a human and not a tool, is so foreign that Roxana leans into the hug and smiles, in despite of herself. 'Call me Roxana.'

Almost 2 weeks after this beautiful visit, Maria sits on her couch and is deep in thought. Roxana has been visiting them every week, with a result of a completely changed lady. Yes, she's still Lant's favorite, and she hatched the poisonous butterflies, and Maria can sense the manipulative aura from her, but everytime she is told that she'll be visiting that family, it all changes. The set of her jaw loosens, her face flushes a youthful pink, and there's a certain spring in her step. She seems so happy, so unlike herself, that Maria takes it upon herself to invite Roxana's friend for tea and see what kind of person they are.

Maria has confided about all this to Sierra, who listened and then, the purest of smiles lights up Sierra's face. 'My beautiful Ana... she deserves to be happy. I'm glad she has a friend.' -was Sierra's only reply.

When Maria invites them for tea, she can't help but send an invitation to Sierra as well. Sierra is so lovely--how could she not invite her?

Like the invitation requested, they show up at the time stated. Maria claps her hand cheerfully, and Sierra involuntarily flinches.

'Well! it seems like we are all here.'

'Thank you for having me, Lady Maria.' They politely respond.

'Oh, don't mention it!'

As the conversation dawdles on, Maria becomes bored. How come someone as beautiful as Roxana cares about this person?

But they'd look even better if they were one of her dolls...

In her psychopathic frenzy, Maria attacks them. The scene tilts sideways, full of Sierra's pleas for Maria to stop and full of Maria's manical cackling.

But they don't seem scared. Pinned to the ground with that damned umbrella under their chin, they stare at Maria in the eye. They don't say a word. They don't even seem afraid, and if they are they fight through it, and remember that courage is not the absence of fear but preservering in spite of it.

'Don't just stare at me, dear. It bores me--and I dislike being bored.'

Just as Maria is about to slice off their neck,--they still don't seem afraid!--a cold, monotone voice breaks the haze of psychopathy.

'Mother.' Dion Agriche arrives on the scene. 'What are you doing?'

As he says this, he grips Sierra's wrist and helps her stand. Sierra rushes over to Maria. 'Maria--Maria, they're just a child, don't-'

Dion cocks his head. 'Not that I care, but they're from a noble family and you cannot kill them or turn them into one of your completely ridiculous doll, despite your clear insanity, Mother.'

Maria removes her umbrella from their neck, breathing very fast, and they stand up, massaging their neck. No one says a word for a while, until Roxana arrives.

'Oh my goodness.' Roxana ejaculates. 'What happened here?' She turns on Dion. 'You-! Must you hurt everyone?'

'No, Roxana,' They hurriedly reassure her, 'if he hadn't arrived that woman would've taken my neck clean off.'

Roxana stares at Dion for 2 seconds before she turns around, haughtily saying, 'I'm very much obliged to you.'

And as she passes her mother she whispers, 'Thank you, mother.'

A while later Roxana is called by Lant who grins maniacally. 'Dion has reported to me that you and that child are so close that you are on first name terms. Now we can use them. Good, Roxana, excellent!'

Roxana only bows and says through tight lips, 'Thank you, Father.' before she turns around and runs, all the way to their place.

She'd been a fool to let herself get so attached, she curses inside her head. How could she endanger them like that? How could she forget that her family didn't allow happiness or joy, that there was no room in her family for something gentle and welcoming, that her family despised courage? How could she let someone so pure fall into the hands of such a deplorable, depraved family?

How could she willingly give them to the Agriche?

As she arrives, wearing nothing but a blue cloak over her dress, she looks over the vast acres of flowers. She gathers some lily of the valley, and heads up the steps to knock on the door.

The door is opened by one of their servants, who smiles at Roxana. She forces herself to smile back, the muscles in her face working rather hard, as though they had forgotten how to do it.

'Lady Roxana! Oh, you're here to see the third child, I assume? They're out at the moment-'

'It does not matter.' Roxana interrupts. 'Just lead me to their bedroom. I... need to leave something for them.'

In silence she is led to their bedroom. She presses the lily of the valley underneath their pillow, with one note: 'I'm so sorry, but this is all for you.'

They would understand, if not accept, that this was the end.

Review: The Long Ballad

“Before I met him, I never thought I’d go through thick and thin with one another. After I met him, I never thought I’d spend the rest of my life with anyone else”

- Changge

I’ll try to talk about the great things about this wonderful drama and not spoil too much of the story. (keyword: TRY)

STORY

So the drama follows the story of Li Changge and Ashile Sun as they fight for peace and prosperity for their people, their growth as a person and the love and the life they want to protect and dreams of. The drama greatly revolves around Changge’s growth and finding her purpose and peace.It starts off at the Capital of the Tang Dynasty, Chang An then travels to the grassland on the Ashile Tribe to the desert tribe Mo Bei and the capital of the former dynasty Sui, Dingxiang.

I know that the drama is based on a Manhwa but I have not personally read it but I did hear that the manhwa was amazing. So I know nothing about the drama aside from the synopsis and that a part of it was based on a true incident called the Xuanwu Gate Incident and that some of the characters are loosely based on real people like the Emperor Taizong and his great ministers.

“Don’t you know the cost of hatred?” -

Master Qin (Episode 28)

I love that the drama started off when Changge is at her peak, a princess. She starts off as this strong person who eventually slowly falls from grace and fights to survive and seek revenge. I really love Changge’s growth throughout the drama.

She can be impulsive and is absolutely stubborn and when she was driven by revenge she became reckless and a bit irrational but when she finally got a grip of herself and saw the struggles of the people, I love that it didn’t take much for her to re-examine her goals.

Aside from Changge’s father, I actually really love the Li family, well not too much for Li Cheng Qian (lol). Despite their differences they really are good people at heart. They are kind and compassionate and value the lives of their subjects. They each have their temperaments and way of protecting their Tang.

Although I like Tang, my heart is for the Eagle Division (lol). I love the close knit relationship they have and especially the loyalty and brotherhood they have with their Tegin. I always enjoy watching any member of the Eagle Division and always look forward to any of their scenes.

Changge and Sun is definitely a match made in heaven. They are both strong and compassionate, loyal and smart. They greatly value their people and both wish for peace. Their first meeting was just *chef’s kiss* with Changge dressed as a man and coming to an undercover Sun’s rescue from the guards of the Eastern Palace and then eventually meeting again at the Cuju game.

Which is by the way one of my favorite scenes throughout the drama as it the best representation of the standard of action/fighting choreography that I should expect on the drama. I mean they could make the game so fun to watch, what more of their fighting scenes.

“There are three reasons why I want to marry Changge. First of all, since you left, Changge cared about nobody in the world. If one person cares about nobody, he’ll be free. However, at the same time, he’ll be lonely. I want to be the one Changge cares about. I want to accompany her for the rest of my life. Secondly, I learned kung fu when I was young. I think I have some achievements... I’m confident that I can protect Changge. I won’t let her starve and I won’t let anyone hurt her. In my heart, Changge is more important than my life. Thirdly, if you ask me what I’m pursuing, I thought much about it, I went through a lot and I suffered a lot but in the end, all I want is just peace.…. I swear to Sirius, no matter is money or my love for Changge, I’ll give her all I have.”

Changge and Sun have their own version on how they love which I greatly admire. Although it took some time for these two to finally admit their own feelings, they were unconsciously very protective of each other early on the drama. I love the respect and loyalty that they have. That Sun will never make Changge do anything she doesn’t want and always strives to give whatever she needs and Changge who will protect what Sun holds dear.

“As long as I am the Tegin of Eagle Division, I will be responsible for it. But Li Changge, She is the one who I will protect by my life as Ashile Sun. As soon as I settle the Eagle Division down, I will find her even if she is at the end of the world”

Aside from Changge and Sun, I also absolutely love Le Yan and the Hao Du tandem. I have mentioned on my blog that I really look forward to their development and damn was I NOT disappointed. I absolutely love their love story, Le Yan’s growth from a timid princess to finally learning to voice out her opinions and Hao Du finally having the courage to fight for what he wants.

Then there is also Mimi Guli and Mu Jin and then Sher. I just can’t with these three, like I’m honestly torn. I’m not gonna go into detail about these three but my heart still aches for them. There are so many characters in this drama that I absolutely love and will greatly miss.

And I love the fact that the story didn’t make ALL the nobles despicable or disgusting like a lot of palace dramas. I love that we still have these father figures for Chang Ge who helps her in their own way even though she doesn't ask for it or even wants it.

Another point of the drama that I just absolutely love was the sisterhood between Chang Ge and Le Yan. Their loyalty and love for each other stood strong and even though they were separated in a huge part of the drama they never doubted each other.

I absolutely love the pacing of the story. I love that each main character has a very clear storyline not just romance, their own struggles and pains. The physical or mental torture that they went through and their personal growth. Each character has their interesting path and I love that the drama justified or really made clear that it it was not just any other wuxia romance dramas. There weren’t that much fillers but they were all worth it. And then the ending, although the romantic part of me wishes more it's still a good ending and I’m happy with that.

CHARACTERS

Princess Yong Ning / Li Changge

Changge is the only daughter of Li Jiancheng and Lady Jin. She is well versed in Martial Arts and Military Strategies as she was personally taught by her Second Uncle, Li Shimin who treated her like she was his own daughter. Changge is smart and resourceful, a bit playful and mischievous. She loves to sneak out of the eastern palace dressed up as a man as it gives her more freedom.

Changge greatly values the people around her and would do anything to protect them. She can be impulsive and stubborn at times but she is a fast learner and resourceful. She always tries to look at the bigger picture and plans ahead of everything.

Ashile Sun

Sun is the Tegin of the Eagle Division of the Ashile Tribe and the foster son of the Great Khan Yan Li. He is an excellent Archer and an even greater fighter. He carries a great responsibility of protecting and leading his Eagle Division, the most notorious division of the Ashile Tribe. He is smart and witty, loyal and righteous.

Sun like Changge greatly values those around him. His compassion and love for his people is what makes him a great Tegin and a general anyone would like to serve. He is very loyal to his men and will do anything to protect them, even at the cost of his freedom or life.

Princess Yong An / Li Le Yan

Le Yan is the only daughter of Li Shimin and closest cousin to Changge. She is an excellent embroiderer and is very sheltered by her family. She is very timid and shy, always composed and calm. Le Yan grew up with Changge and treats each other as sisters. She is very loyal to Changge.

Hao Du

Hao Du is the foster son of Minister Du. Ever since he was taken in by Minister Du when he was a kid, he stood loyal and faithful to his foster father and would do anything he asked. He is the following type so whatever order his father gives, he will do anything to execute it. He is very filial but despite his serious facade, he hides his affection for Le Yan whom he had long loved.

Wei Shu Yu

Shu Yu is one of Minister Wei’s sons. He grew up with Le Yan and Changge and has always acted as the older brother for the two girls. He has longed for Changge but never acted on his feelings. He is very filial to his family and a loyal servant to the Tang Dynasty.

Characters to mention:

Ashile Sher

Sher is the son of the Great Khatun, nephew of the Great Khan Yan Li and son of the former Khan as well as cousin to Sun. Sher is confident and proud but feels inferior to his cousin Sun. He longs for his uncle’s recognition and to finally be with his mother.

Mu Jin

Mu Jin is the Military Counselor for the Eagle Division and absolutely loyal to his Tegin. Sun had saved Mu Jin when they were kids and since then pledged his unwavering loyalty to him. He is talkative and witty, loyal and kind.

Mimi Guli

Mimi is one of the slave Great Khan gifted Sun after his victory on Shouzhou. Mimi was once a slave under the Khatun’s tent. When her family was killed by the Ashile tribe, she and her younger brother Buzhen were taken in as slaves and separated when she was sent off to the Eagle Division.

Emperor Taizong / Li Shimin

Li Shimin is one of the Princes of the Tang Dynasty, brother to Li Jiancheng, father to Li Cheng Qian and Li Le Yan and uncle to Li Chang Ge. He is a remarkable warrior and an even greater military strategist who led the victory of Tang over the former cruel Dynasty of Sui.

Minister Du Ru Hui

Minister Du is the Minister of Defense for the Tang Dynasty and foster father to Hao Du. Minister Du is loyal to Tang and Li Shimin and always seeks to protect him and the people even if puts blood in his hands. He is a huge supporter of the kind of Tang Dynasty that Li Shimin envisions and will do anything to protect it.

CAST

I have nothing to complain about the cast, like zero, nada. I love every single cast on this drama down to the villains. My reba killed it again. She is perfect for Li Changge as Wu Lei is perfect as Ashile Sun. Reba and We Lei absolutely looked perfect together. And then there is Lusi and Liu Yu Ning who are also just adorable. I need a drama with Lusi and Liu Yu Ning as main lead, like I really NEED it!

and I just need to applaud the two female leads on this drama Reba and Lusi. there were haters before saying that reba was too pretty for the role or has the beauty fit for modern dramas, like seriously? I haven’t watched all of Reba’s drama but from those that I saw, Chang Ge has become one of my favorite characters that she has played. I first saw her more serious, kind of a warrior aura on Eternal Love of Dream with Vengo Gao. That time that she descended to the mortal realm to follow Dong Hua and she posed as a soldier who saved the emperor. I really loved that serious side of Feng Jiu and when I heard her role on this drama those episodes from ELD was the immediate scenes I could picture and knew that she would definitely slay it.

And then there was my baby girl Zhao Lu Si. I most of the time see her on cute romcoms as this bubbly girl next door character that always had the adorable smiles but Le Yan was such a 180 from those roles and her performance did not disappointed. Le Yan was definitely not an easy character to play, as she had a quite a journey on the drama but Lu Si slayed her character. Both Reba and Lusi’s portrayal of their characters on this drama makes me respect them more than ever.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Rating: 10/10

The drama is worth every hype and recognition it got. The set and location is just breathtaking, stunning costumes, remarkable OST, wonderful acting, not too cringe CGI, intense and well choreographed fighting scenes and just marvelous storyline. This is definitely one of the greater dramas of 2021 and will definitely rank as one of my favorite Cdramas of all time.

Speaking of OST, the music for this drama is just to die for. Its songs are just perfection and it's constantly playing in my head. I love all of the OSTs, which says a lot from a person who often ignores drama OSTs. The songs definitely played quite a huge role in intensifying the emotions in a lot of scenes.

Although I love the animation, I wished they still showed much of the action instead of putting it as an animation. I would have loved to see more action during the big fights. But I’m still giving this drama a 10 out of 10 as it checked all of that I’m looking for in a drama and so much more.

There is no need to ask if I would recommend this drama cause it is pretty obvious just how much I love it. It has everything, from drama, action, a bit of comedy and wholesomeness, romance, betrayal, schemes, and great music.

Synopsis:

The year is 626 C.E, and the realm and its political center Chang’an, are shaken to its core by the Xuanwu Gate Incident, a successful palace coup to take charge of the Tang Dynasty. A scheming prince leads the bloody coup and kills the family of Li Chang Ge during the raid, although she manages to escape. Now the prince has placed himself on the Imperial throne, and rules as Emperor Tai Zong.

Li Chang Ge has her mind firmly set on revenge – and musters a powerful army intent on overthrowing the new Emperor.

But her plans are thrown into disarray when she suffers an unexpected defeat against the armies of the Eastern Turkic Khaganate. Li Shimin is such a fascinating antagonist. Every moment when he speaks of or thinks of Li Changge, I’m like oh boy, oh boy. He may be the antagonist, may be the source of Li Changge’s pain, but Tang needs him. Tang is young, in a precarious position, and Li Changge chose Tang--her home, her country, her people--when she interfered with the assassination attempt.

Also, I felt like Li Shimin was finally in charge again. When he had scenes with the three stooges in the earlier episodes, it sometimes felt like the stooges were more vocal, more present than him. But you could say that he was getting his head in order after everything.

Mimi Guli was Ashile She Er’s slave? Well, two birds, one stone. The Great Khan removed the slave that distracted Ashile She Er and then later sent her to Ashile Sun. (To spy?) I see now why hot-headed Mimi Guli doesn’t show signs of being an abused slave. Sure, she’s occasionally scared, for obvious reasons, but Ashile She Er cares about her (I don’t think I can say ‘love’ at the moment, since he keeps stressing ‘belonging’ and ‘slave’) and even made her a promise. He must have protected her and maybe even indulged her in little ways … but she’s so subdued around him. Though, the Ashile She Er in front of Ashile Sun and the Ashile She Er in front of Mimi Guli is fascinating.

I’m really, really liking Ashile Sun and Li Changge. They don’t make my heart skip a beat like Hao Du and Li Leyan, but I’m enjoying their dynamic and their relationship, and every time Ashile Sun worries about her, I think: ‘Poor baby boy, so in love, but she’s not there yet.’

He cares about her so much, but that means he becomes controlling and has his men tie her down, which makes even his men eye him. What a stark contrast compared to the snowy scene when Li Changge handed over Gongsun Heng’s head; all the men except for Mu Jin scoffed and laughed at her.

Urgh, I would have loved to see that transition between Li Changge and Ashile Sun’s men, from enemies to companions. (Or maybe ‘acquaintances’ is more accurate?) Because Ya Luo wanted to rush in to help her, but Nu Er actually considered the situation and voiced the consequences. They’re not bad men, and Li Changge could have killed Su Yi She, but she didn’t.

The Great Khan said that after he would drink the wine, the archers should shoot Li Shimin. Which wouldn’t be the best moment for an assassination, for him that is--wouldn’t he be too close to Li Shimin and his guards and the enemy archers? That is what I initially thought, and at first I disagreed with the way he worded the order; instead, have the archers only prepare to shoot once he drank the wine but wait for him to step away, away from danger.

Then I thought, no, Ashile Zuobi was expecting a successful assassination, so he wanted to immediately charge ahead with his army--once Li Shimin fell, he would lead his people and win the war. More glory for him, the Great Khan who rushes ahead to danger. But the assassination attempt failed. Some people would immediately flee, but he didn’t.

(I don’t think he’d want to die with arrows in his back.)

But it is still a weird, though also understandable, place for an assassination attempt. Weird because both armies are so close to each other, and archers from both sides can kill the important leaders. But understandable because there’s a river with a very strong current and only one bridge, as far as I can tell.

Li Leyan and Xiao Wu. My babies. My poor babies! I know what’s going to happen with Xiao Wu--and it’s like waiting for a car crash to happen--and I hate it. Hate it, hate it! I do like it that the makeup artists made Xiao Wu’s cheeks pink, which showed that he has a fever. But Li Leyan and Xiao Wu? They make my heart hurt--‘I apologise on behalf of my sister,’ be still my heart. Xiao Wu called her his sister! But about Xiao Wu and the refugees, I still feel that Li Leyan’s story will be about the people. Just as Li Changge is thinking about her revenge and the people.

Li Changge and every moment after the attempted assassination! The way she wore Wolf Army uniform and pinned the blame on them, instead of the Eagle Army. She could have done that. But didn’t. The way she used the phrase ‘Heavenly Wolf God’--I’m assuming that she heard the phrase while she was living in the Eagle Army camp.

Also, I wonder what she was thinking while she stood in front of Ashile Zuobi. Did she think that she’d be able to avoid a death sentence? And did she think that it would be okay to die there because at least Tang was safe? At that moment. But Li Changge is one fierce, intelligent lady, and I love her.

Prologue

Chapter 1

Lyn realized in an instant how much she stuck out against the black and gray rock; it had meant a lot to her that Eyir had turned the original dark armor that she’d been made by the other women in Skold Ashil, a joke about her ‘black sheep’ nature among them, golden. But now it seemed a disadvantage.

A subtle shift in the air to her right drew her attention as an almost imperceptible hum filled the space nearby. Ve’nari’s projection flickered into life and didn’t even wait a beat, “How fortuitous! You just happened to be transferred to a location in which I have a certain... interest. Place the aural sequencers I gave you and I will attempt to establish a functional signal. Such a perilous location will require the utmost discretion. You will want to use your ethereal cloak to avoid being seen.”

Right. The cloak and the sequencers. She felt the keyhole eye of the Broker’s face fixated on her as she pulled the item out of the equipment pouch on her bag and slung it back around her shoulders, hoping that it worked. With luck, placing the sequencers would help her scout the place out and find living Val’kyr — if any remained. Having an idea of how to get around the winding paths would help out the mercenary group later if they were ever sent there at any rate.

Lyn found a few stable handholds in the rocks she’d materialized on and wound her way down the small cliff-side, careful to keep an eye on the Maldraxxi patrols that wandered past her on the road. None of them paid a single lick of attention to her and she let out a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding as her boots touched the ground with the quiet rattle of metal on stone.

Slipping past potential threats unknown made the chore pass by with surprising swiftness; Each of the sequencers was placed in what felt like the correct spot before Lyn slipped off again, doing her best to stay conveniently hidden from view. It was the fourth and final drop that literally struck gold.

A trail of brilliant feathers littered the ground, heading toward what looked like the edge of the place. Southeast, if she had to slap an Azerothian direction on it. The projection of Ve’nari crackled into the space next to her again, the Broker’s lilting voice cutting in. Whatever it was she said, Lyn hadn’t heard. She had to save whoever was left here, if anyone. That was her task, not whatever this stranded, inter-dimensional trader wanted. She took off again, following the fallen feathers down a winding path as quick as she could.

It was hard to miss the glowing, golden Sunborne Val’kyr suspended above the ground like a bird in a cage, just past the dais littered with the corpses of their sisters and her — Helya — presiding over whatever ceremony. They’d all had names, a purpose in death, and now they’d been snuffed out for eternity. Not this one, not if she could help it.

Lyn wound her way past supplicant Mawsworn Val’kyr and Vyraz’ chosen; As she stepped in behind the cage, trying to get cover before dropping the cloak, the Sunborne’s visor tipped in her direction and a bright smile — perhaps the first she’d worn in this place — dawned across the trapped woman, “My heart rejoices to see a noble face in this realm of nightmare!”

There was palpable hope in the trapped Val’kyr’s voice, and Lyn couldn’t help but smile back, “Eyir sent me to free you and whoever else remained… Who keeps the keys, Danica?” They had never met, but Lyn knew her name. It sifted up through her memory as if she’d always known; but why wouldn’t she? They were sisters, connected by death and their great Lady’s design.

Danica pressed down toward the bottom of the cage, bringing herself closer to her would-be rescuer to keep her from having to speak too loudly, “You are the Alvilda... Keeper Odyn must be warned of this foul betrayal! The Mawsworn called Kjellrun holds the seal that can free me. You can find her gloating in the nearby hall.”

Lyn glanced back over her shoulder toward the arched metal passage that led down into the dark below before looking back to her sister with a sharp nod, summoning her spear to her hand with purpose, “I’ll be back before she takes you, I promise.” She turned and ran, traversing the stairs two at a time. The ethereal cloak’s magic allowed her to skirt past the guards as unseen as before.

Kjellrun stood at the back of the room, surrounded by the bodies of other dead Val’kyr. If she could get behind the towering, twisted facsimile of the Maw’s dark version this would be over quickly. The Light would still answer her call here, she could feel it warm in her chest — waiting. As soon as she got into a favorable position she lunged forward, ramming the spear directly through the center of the Mawsworn’s chest armor with a blaze of golden magic.

Helya’s Val’kyr clamped a gauntleted hand down on the spear’s blade and turned her head to glance back at the now visible paladin, the hollow eyes of the mask locking with Lyn’s own. The weapon disappeared before her adversary could snap the shaft, sent away with another pass of magic before Lyn summoned it back into her hand again to focus a gout of holy flame in a sweeping arc from the tip in a frantic frenzy. These were dead creatures, and a slight miscalculation could be covered up by dumping retribution and fury into every strike.

It wasn’t a subtle light show, and she heard the panicked shouts of the Maldraxxi posted as guards further up the corridor. Kjellrun swiped at Lyn, raking the sharpened black metal fingertips of her gauntlet across the smaller woman’s face and spattering blood across the wall and floor. She’d feel it later — for now, she had an opening and Lyn pressed it. There wasn’t time to fuck around.

Lyn threw her body weight behind ramming her weapon up and into the skeletal visor with a howl of challenge, pitching Kjellrun’s head back. The dark Val’kyr twitched and shuddered, clawing at the spear with futility before dying again, abruptly. Lyn grabbed the seal hanging around her neck and pulled, severing the chain and pulling the taller creature further onto her spear for good measure.

The guards' footfalls were getting closer still, she could hear them over the pounding of her heartbeat in her ears and the throbbing across her forehead, nose and cheek. She had to go. Lyn snatched the ethereal cloak up off the ground where it had fallen off her shoulders in the scuffle and threw it back on hastily, the magic immediately taking hold. Vyraz’s men didn’t even notice her as she ducked past them, their realization of failure echoing off the walls as she ran.

As soon as she was within reach of Danica’s cage she tossed the seal up onto the floor, and her sister’s spectral hand closed around it with triumph. The metal groaned and shifted, the door opening as the seal made contact with the magical lock. As soon as the Sunborne Val’kyr was free she unfurled her wings, stretching them out for what must’ve been the first time in a while. Lyn let the cloak slide down to the dusty ground, there was no point for subtly anymore, and if they were going to make a stand it might as well be—

“I mourn the loss of my sisters and desire nothing more than to avenge them. Yet I know that I am no match for the witch's magics or her army of Mawsworn. We must let wisdom guide us and fly from here. Though I am weak from my captivity, I have the strength to leave this place if you fly with me. Let us go, sister,” Danica kept her voice hushed as she cut off Lyn's train of thought, but she was right.

Not that Lyn thought she could fly, but stranger things had happened. Helya turned her gaze on them both with one of her harsh cackles, another dark Mawsworn taking point in the sky as the body of a spent Sunborne fell to the ground. Lyn grit her teeth and dug deep, activating Ashildir’s gift as Danica’s hand clamped around her arm.

The transition was always odd back on Azeroth, but here it was worse. As golden wings sprouted from her back and the token visor appeared in place on her own spectral Val’kyr form, she could see them all — hundreds of thousands of flickering souls, scattered across the Maw. Trapped, bound to this hellish plane where so many of them weren’t meant to be. If she had breath in this body, she knew it would’ve hitched in her chest at the horror of it all, but all Lyn felt was a terrible sorrow.

Danica pulled her up with a sharp tug, and it shook her out of her thoughts long enough to remember that they had to go. Helya snarled a message at them both and cast the scroll toward them with a magic that flickered an unsettling blue-black. Poison to deliver to Odyn. The first of them, the cursed sea witch, Lyn felt sorrow for her, too.

“Skyja! See them out.”

It wasn’t to be a friendly escort. Danica’s wings start to beat and Lyn focused. She’d never used her own wings in this form before, it had always been a measure to stave off death just a little longer, but wasn’t that what this was, too?

As the Mawsworn dove toward them, she and her sister flew out and away — the pair of them supporting each other as they tore through the Maw, into the In Between, and then toward Skyhold.

Let's go everyone: time to share my Ellabby headcanons

Been wanting to get these out there for a good long while. I won't HC too much about what happens in the present season cuz it's still airing, but this is how I see them as a couple.

So when everyone grows more used to Gabby's eccentricities or Ellie helps everyone accept her more, I can definitely see Alec, Jake, Dan (once he apologizes for trying to vote Gabby off), Ashley+Will and Drew getting along with them best. They all keep in touch with one another post-DC. And I definitely see Jake and Ashill going "awww!" when they're being affectionate or exchanging words of love...while Drew just holds up a piece of paper saying "Nice" lmao

In terms on if they met the contestants of Total Drama...I feel like they'd get on best with Bridgette (especially her), Geoff, Izzy, Owen, Dawn, Ella, Jasmine, 2023 Emma (provided she's not still dating Chase) and the Vegans from RR. Maybe Gwen too.

It's already canonically confirmed that Gabby owns a LOT of pets, though given her father didn't take care of them well...oof. Well when they move in together they're gonna get a LOT of pets. Like...a LOT a lot of pets.

Ellie's the kind of girl that usually is introverted, quiet and often a little snarky, but I get the feeling she just melts like putty when she's with her girlfriend, and they tend to be quite affectionate in public. Nothing over-the-top or constantly make-outy like Geoff and Bridgette, but they love to give each other hugs, lots of kisses on their forehead, nose, cheek and a few lip kisses too, and exchanging lots of "I love you"s and terms of endearment.

Speaking of which, I see them as a pet name-using couple, but nothing sugary like "sweetiekins" or "googoopie", but rather simple ones like "my love", "darling" and "honey", or pretty-sounding ones like "forest rose" and "twinkling star". Gabby's favorite pet name for Ellie is "Sunset Angel" while Ellie's favorite pet name for Gabby is "Nature Princess".

Given the kind of person Gabby is, they don't go to big, bustling cities often for their vacations, often preferring less busy places like small towns and countrysides.

They also love having picnics. Especially in parks and gardens, or on beaches at nighttime.

Along with picnics, one of their favored kinds of dates is to simply go on nature walks together in quiet places like a forest or a meadow, just enjoying nature and one another's company.

They. Love. Exchanging flowers. Gabby's favorites are tulips and hyacinths while Ellie's favorites are peonies and lavenders. They often sneak in some red roses too to represent their love for one another. (Oh and they love stitching flower crowns for one another two.)

They're both pretty ticklish. However I feel like Gabby's the more ticklish of the two. Ellie loves tickling her simply cuz it makes her happy to see Gabby laughing (and she LOVES the way she laughs)

Every night when there's a full moon, they go out to cuddle underneath it together. Even if it's raining, cuz they l-o-v-e to kiss under the rain

Ellie's great at playing guitar and is an AMAZING singer when are we going to get a musical DC season???. She often loves serenading her girlfriend when they're out on nature walks or moonlit cuddles. (Definitely seeing her singing some girl in red tunes here. Especially "we fell in love in october" or "I'll Call You Mine")

Close to their second anniversary I feel like Ellie worked with some of her fellow DC campers she befriended in season 1 and the likely All-Stars season to bring Gabby on a safari vacation to Africa. And on the night of the anniversary itself (which was also a full moon night), they went on one of their nature hikes through the beautiful wilderness. The entire time, Ellie told her just how much she loved her, more than anything else in the world, and how happy she made her - and at the climax of that night, Ellie proposed to her. Yes there were tears of joy, from BOTH of them.

At the wedding, which took place deep in a forest just like Gabby would love, almost everyone from DC was present (not gonna say who's banned yet depending on how the rest of Season 1 goes...Yul's definitely banned though), as well as a good amount of Total Drama contestants. Alec was their best man while I get the feeling Lill and Ashley were their maids of honor. They gave one another wedding rings with star ruby gemstones (also Dan is the ring-bearer because yes). Oh and since Ellie wished to work in fashion, Imma say she designed both her and Gabby's clothes. Also Kai being their officiator won't leave my head cuz he's a very nature-minded person and he'd definitely see a good future for the two of them.

I see them moving in together in a cabin or cottage in a forest or mountainside (these two girls give big cottagecore vibes)

I'm seeing them use IVF to have their daughter. As for names I'm seeing something nature-related like Rose/Rosie/Rosita, Autumn, Daisy, Willow or Hazel.

Well that's all I'm coming up with for now, time to rest my brain lol

The Long Ballad

Summary

n a power struggle for the throne of the Tang dynasty, Li Shi Min kills Crown Prince Li Jian Cheng and his family. The Crown Prince’s daughter, Chang Ge, has been sent away prior to the massacre and escapes unhurt. But she feels betrayed that her uncle whom she adores and shares a close bond could kill her family, especially her mother. Chang Ge vows revenge. She steals the Crown Prince seal and escapes hoping to seek an opportunity and alliance to avenge her family’s death.

While escaping, she meets Ah Sun who is the leader of the Eagle Division of the Ashile Tribe and strikes up a friendship. Both of them hide their identities from each other but Ah Sun eventually knows who she is. Ah Sun’s adoptive father is the tribe’s Great Khan and rules the grassland. This means the tribe and the Tang dynasty are in opposing camps but this did not stop Ah Sun from developing feelings for Chang Ge.

While Chang Ge hates Shi Min, she is also very clear that she has to protect the interest of the Tang dynasty. She meets Ah Sun again when they fight for control for a city called Shuozhuo and discovers his real identity.

Review

An Addictive Story

The Long Ballad (长歌行) is a surprisingly great drama to me. I supposed I was expecting something similar from Dilraba Dilmurat after watching her cutesy performance in Eternal Love Of Dream. But her character in this production is far different and she carried that role well. Apart from the actress, there are a few other things that make this drama one of the best that I have watched so far in 2021. The Long Ballad review below will have a bit more details about this historical drama and why I think it is worth your time to give it a go.

First of all, I have not read the comic manhua which this drama is based on and thus, I can’t comment on how well it has stuck to the original storyline. But The Long Ballad is an addictive drama with good pacing to me. I kept clicking one episode after another especially for the first half of the drama as the protagonist’s adventure is a compelling one in her desire for revenge after the killing of her family. The story starts to slow down a little once it hits over 30 episodes but it is hardly a bore as there are things happening throughout with a few interesting twists.

A Common Plot But Well-Executed

Basically, you can say that the revenge storyline is nothing new in historical dramas. What sets The Long Ballad apart from the rest though is its execution. It is written in a way that is easy to follow and fast-paced. It doesn’t get bogged down in unnecessary details with long-winded drama unlike And The Winner Is Love. There is hardly any room for self-pity and whining as far as the main characters are concerned. They pick themselves up quickly when the chips are down and their story then moves along before viewers start to feel bored.

The plot is not convoluted or vague like what you would see in Legend Of Fei. It is straightforward but with a good balance between simplicity and anticipation. So, you are likely to chase after each episode as you root for the female lead to escape from her enemies and fulfill her desire for justice for her family. Apart from revenge, The Long Ballad is also a slow burn romance drama. However, if you are expecting a melodramatic love story like The Wolf or passionate romance like Maiden Holmes, then The Long Ballad will fall short.

Hence, there are no hot kisses in the drama as the romance is innocent-like albeit sweet. The love of the leading couple is mainly shown through their trust and support of each other which is not unlike The Sword And The Brocade.

Interesting And Well-Developed Characters

The Long Ballad is a drama with strong female characters who grow as the story progresses. Change Ge starts off as a willful princess who is then obsessed with revenge. But her character changes with her experiences as she realizes the welfare of the people comes before her own agenda. As for Le Yan, she is a timid princess who has no ideals until she learns the hardships the people have to go through everyday.

The screenwriters also didn’t try to make some of the important characters to be perfectly good or evil just like what we have seen in Word Of Honor. There are layers to their personality such as the conflicting emotions in Shi Min and Shu Yu whereby their actions to secure their own interests also bring them regrets and pain. This makes the characters more interesting to watch as they don’t appear as one-dimensional. As a result, it adds a little more flavor to the drama.

Acting

Dilraba Dilmurat carried the role of Change Ge well enough for me. I think it is a drama that depends a lot on her performance due to the nature of the story that puts Chang Ge in the spotlight. Her exotic looks already score some points as it fits a comic manhua character. Being a seasoned actress, she knows how to make the character appears as fiery and determined as well as generate the required chemistry with Leo Wu. Without a lot of kisses and touchy-feely gestures, they can only rely on their facial expressions and body language to convey the romance between them. I think they did manage to create the sparks to get the romance going for the viewers in the drama.

As for Leo Wu, he also impresses me with his role as Ah Sun. He has the aura of a strong military leader with his commanding presence. He displayed the required force and strength of the character which is a nice surprise for a young actor.

I also like Rosy Zhao’s acting in The Long Ballad which is a change from her usual rom-com roles such as Chen Qian Qian in The Romance Of Tiger And Rose. Despite playing the second lead, I think Le Yan is a role that could help her to move away from being stereotyped. In this drama, she has to depict Le Yan as being weak but with an inner strength when the going gets tough. She did that beautifully and gives the character the required grace and fortitude.

My Verdict – Watch!

I would say give The Long Ballad a go because of the captivating storyline. While it has some connections to real historical figures, don’t overthink about the history but simply treat it as a fictional story to be enjoyed. It is based on a comic manhua after all and this is made pretty clear in the drama as some scenes are shown in manhua form to let viewers know what happened.

Thus, if there is one weakness in this production, it is the manhua scenes which make it feels like a cost-cutting measure to me. For example, instead of having an actual war scene, it would be replaced by manhua graphics of the same. It does look weird to me and takes some getting used to. But the upside is this kind of scenes are low in number and they don’t appear in every episode. I guess some viewers will love the transition between the different formats especially if they are manhua fans. Whatever it is, the important thing is the manhua scenes do not really hinder the overall enjoyment of the drama.

For this The Long Ballad review, I would give it a score of 8.5/10. But if you prefer a hot romantic drama or a full-fledged wuxia genre with breathtaking martial arts fighting scenes, then it may be somewhat lacking. Instead, The Long Ballad’s selling point is its good plot that is well-executed. last movie you watched: i think it’s The Yin-Yang Master (2021)? I haven’t watched any movies after that bc am so busy with all of my dramas haha

last show you binged: i think binged would be The Journey Across the Night! I watched that as a whole in 4 days

why i chose my url: dates back to my intense summer of binge reading J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Vishous was my favorite of the brothers haha. i first used this username in some random game on my nintendo ds lol

how many people are you following: 358 which somehow feels like a lot but also like way too few?? i should probably search for some new blogs with other topics than cql, bts and/or dmbj bc i do love a lot of things at once

how many followers do you have: over 800

average hours of sleep: i’d say around 7h

lucky numbers: i remember answering 5 previously? i don’t really have a lucky number but 5 pops into my head

instruments: nope, no. not touching those tyvm. i admire everyone who can play any instrument tho

what i’m currently wearing: black jeans, socks with foxes on them (plus my woolly socks), a gray cardigan (my fave thing ever!) and an orange/brown top

dream job: writer would be ideal but that is very faaaaar into the dream zone

dream trip: around different parts of asia to taste all the amazing food ;; maybe a road trip of sorts through europe? or inter railing? another trip to london bc i miss that ;; a trip to the very northern part of lapland to see all the auroras etc! i’ve never been that far north :’D

fave food: if i need to quickly name something then sushi. otherwise am pretty fine with anything spicy

top three fictional universes you’d like to live in: i remember thinking about this a lot the last time i answered this but hmm. currently i’d say dmbj still bc that world is fascinating AND i would love to talk to the characters. mass effect would be the second one currently bc i miss those games and the space stuff is super cool! and the third one would be assassin’s creed rogue bc that is my fave ac game and i like the northern sea and the places in it AND i could probably be one of abstergo’s employees instead and just test/play those simulation games haha

Part II

Last Song: am currently listening to my playlist with just everything so i have Andrew Belle’s The Enemy playing right now (also I only just now realized that Andrew Belle also sings Pieces which is one of my fave songs? my bff linked that to me after it played in some tv series she was watching)

Last Movie Last Stream: i didn’t want to mention the same movie again or skip this question and i’ve wanted to talk about this anyway so! i watched Liu Chang’s bday live last night :’D it was so much fun even if i couldn’t understand anything. it was just nice to watch him being himself and have fun and chill with his fans. also the songs were amazing ;; i cried with Liu Sang’s character song as well as the ending. and all the while i couldn’t turn my gaze away from his eyes! he has such pretty eyes and they were absolutely Sparkling throughout the whole stream, it was so nice :’)

Currently Reading: Devotions by Mary Oliver (i adore her poems! they’re a very nice change after Siken haha) and then some uni stuff for a course about culture and mental health plus my thesis

Currently Watching: Douluo Continent, Word of Honor, The Long Ballad

all of these are amazing and make me feel different things! i started Douluo Continent just a while ago and am now on ep 16 i think? it’s been very pretty and very chill and i watch it during the weekend while i wait for new episodes to the other two :’D it’s nice to see Xiao Zhan again and i’ve enjoyed the rpg game type of feeling in it? the group of seven is doing amazing and it’s interesting to watch them craft their team work! Word of Honor again has reached the ending and i just hold my breath with it. am not too far gone with it so i am not getting as heavy feelings about it as i probably could but i enjoy it alot still and i do cry at times ^^ and then The Long Ballad has just blown me away! i didn’t expect to love it this much and be this invested in it but everything about it has been such a positive surprise and it keeps making me super emotional! i love the characters and the story and the romances even! it’s a great accomplishment for me. also yes i cry on the daily bc of hao du and bc of ashile sun’s hair haha

(i am also rewatching Ultimate Note kind of and been thinking about getting into rewatching Reboot bc it has been on my list ever since i finished it)

What is antipoetry to you: okay hmm i had to google this too and have to agree with Kiddo here. i don’t have strong feelings about poetry tbh, i wasn’t into poetry that much before maybe a bit over year ago? Siken has really blown me away haha. but i have always loved song lyrics which i never thought as poetry but then Kiddo said to me that they consider them poetry and yeah ok. i agree? so idk poetry can be whatever i suppose. i’ve never seen any rules in it anyway. i know there are many rules for different types of poetry but then again. i feel like poetry has always been just words put together to feel things and i guess that is the core purpose of every written type of art in the end right?

Currently craving: a drama as good and as personal as The Journey Across the Night. that show really just stole my heart and i want that feeling back. i think about that show every day. i miss Li Jia and his two partners. i miss the vibes. i miss sitting on my floor watching it and just sobbing my heart out haha. also! craving a properly subbed, whole version of Anti-Fraud League. only the first 12 eps are badly subbed out there. wetv has... blocked? deleted? the whole show??? i need it to my life, i wanna see Xiao Yuliang being cute as Mi Ruo and i wanna know where the story goes smh

Fang Yilun’s (Wei Shuyu’s) interview is so funny, he calls people by their character names including.... “Li Shimin laoshi”

seems like he and Wu Lei referred to each other as Ashile Sun and Shuyu? he said Ashile Sun is professional and respectful, and when he has an idea he’ll say, “Shuyu what do you think of this?”

he referred to Re Ba by her actual name, said his first impression is that she’s very pretty, and eats a lot, but has peculiar tastes (mentioned her infamous yogurt snack haha)

he said Leyan seems cute to people but in private she’s mature and calm

he also referred to Liu Yuning by his actual name, and he said LYN is so introverted that FYL thought he didn’t like him at first. LYN seemed moody in mornings but FYL later learned that LYN likes to sleep and had to take acting classes at night and didn’t get enough sleep. after you get to know him LYN is an open guy.

at the end he said if he were the scriptwriter, his ending for Wei Shuyu would be to defeat A’Sun and marry Chang Ge, defeat Li Shimin and become the emperor

It had been a few hours since y/n had resided in the Agriche residence, no one knew of her presence yet other than Lant, Maria and Sierra. However, both women could not keep meeting y/n to themselves. Maria left to talk to her son about y/n’s arrival knowing that Dion would be pleased to hear the news. Maria had always known about her son's little crush on y/n but never bothered enough to tease him about it. Like most mothers in the Agriche family she often neglected her son and barely acknowledged his existence but if there was one thing Maria and Dion shared in common it would have to be their admiration for y/n. If y/n were to marry Dion then Maria would have a lovely daughter that she always wanted. Maria had always wanted a pretty daughter but alas she had a hideous son that she could not stand. Dion’s presence alone made Maria’s skin crawl with disgust, however Dion should know about y/n’s arrival after all they were very close in the past. Sighing, she called a maid over, the maid bowed to Maria but remained silent as the maid had remembered how Maria had killed another servant the previous day for speaking without having been given permission. Maria told the maid to inform Dion about Y/n’s arrival as she had no intent of speaking to her son herself. She had much better things to do, like go off to the seamstress and get y/n some more dresses to wear. The maid simply bowed and walked off to inform Dion of his beloved’s arrival.

Meanwhile Sierra could also not keep the excitement to herself. Y/n, Ashil and Roxana used to be the best of friends. She often spoke to Dion as well but Sierra knew that those two were more romantic than friends. Unlike Maria she would rather tell Roxana herself. As soon as she reached Roxana’s room she knocked on the door with frail fingers. Roxana immediately realized that it was her mother at the door from the sound of the knock. Roxana got up and opened the door and met face to face with a very giddy Sierra.

“What is it mother, did anything good happen? You seem very happy today,” Roxana eyed her mother suspiciously.

“Oh, my Roxie! Y/n came, she is finally here…after so long…my dear baby,” Sierra gave a very soft laugh.

Roxana felt so warm inside. Y/n had come back. She would finally have someone. She would not be all alone here. She had put on this Agriche act for so long and now she would finally have someone that knew the real her! This news was absolutely delightful for her, she could cry.

Meanwhile the maid had entered Dion’s room to tell him the news. As the maid walked into the dark plain looking room, she saw Dion focusing on some documents. His father must have made him study these documents, the maid thought.

“I-i hope you're not busy, but your mother has sent me to make an announcement,” the maid timidly spoke.

“I’m clearly busy, how dare you disturb me with what that woman has to say,” He seethed

“M-my ap-apologies m-master L-lady Y/n has a-arrived,” the maid was terrified of Dion. She did not want to lose her life after all.

Dion refrained himself from killing the maid, after hearing a familiar name. Ah.. so y/n had finally arrived. In that case he would be the first person to pay her a visit. He hoped that none of his pathetic family would be the first to meet the girl.
