in case you are not aware Ashes and Jonny are Everything to me. they're dating they're exes they were married at one (or multiple) point(s) they are fucking SEVERAL of the same people they're wildly codependent their backstories are thematically similar they murder each other on the regular they care about each other so much and would burn down universes for each other but cannot be in the same room for more than five minutes at a time and no one gets them like the other does. They bring out the worst in each other and genuinely respect each other and will never ever admit it. they probably died without saying they loved each other despite living for millennia and having every experience you can have with another person. I can and have made them so fucked up in fic and have gone through their entire ship tag on the regular. they are canon to me and spent decades without speaking and centuries cramped up together in a spaceship with their mutual polycule and neither of them saw the other die despite knowing how it would happen. I'm losing my MIND they're each other's best and oldest friend and they're the only people in the entire universe who remember how things were in that period before Ivy joined but after they were their own people and they hate each other for knowing their vulnerabilities. They can't describe what they are to each other and never have to because there's no one who needs to understand it other than them. They may or may not have had an extended petplay thing going on. They're even t4t.

Things I just learned: apparently on pirate ships a quartermaster outranks the first mate being the real second in comand while the first mate is the third. That's to say Jonny is not only not the captain his actual job on the ship is being Ashes first-hand man/attack dog (Cerberus!Jonny never was so close to cannon in my head).

This also means that Ashes is the one actually in comand wich I mean just makes sense. They clearly can squeme and lead and Hades just showed it.

their backstories both end with them murdering their father figure and then literally burning all of their ties to their former homes. its narratively satisfying. of course theyd be together.
