Access For All. Period.
Free pads and tampons are now available throughout Manitoba as part of the Access for All Period program, led by the Manitoba government. This program is focused on ending period poverty by providing equal access to menstrual products for all.
What is period poverty?
Period poverty is the inability to access or afford menstrual products, preventing youth and adults who menstruate from participating in their everyday lives.
Why is this important?
Removing barriers to access menstrual products is crucial to the physical and mental health of all who menstruate. A lack of proper access can result in dangerous situations, leading to both short and long term physical harm, as well as mental health issues including anxiety, depression and self-isolation. For students, it can negatively impact attendance and participation, affecting long-term achievement and resulting in missed educational and employment opportunities.
How does the program work?
The Manitoba government, in partnership with Shoppers Drug Mart, is providing readily available pads and tampons free to those in need. Products are available to all Manitobans in schools and community organizations as listed below. Free menstrual products are also available at participating shelters throughout the province through the Access for All Period program.

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 1): Special Legends Match Non-binary aliens
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is a special three way match, because these characters were only discovered after the bracket had begun. To avoid the spoiler effect, if no character gets at least 50% of the vote, the match will be rerun with the top two contenders still as part of round 1.)
Qlaern Hirf | Identity: alien nonbinary | Media: X-wing novels
Qlaern Hirf was a member of the Vratix species, an insectoid species without sex differentiation that invented bacta. They were also a member of the Ashern Circle, a group of militant Vratix who opposed human control of bacta. Qlaern represented the Ashern Circle to the New Republic and the group’s intention to join the new state. They informed Rogue Squadron of the location of deadly bacta aboard a space station. They produced a cure for the Imperial bioweapon Krytos virus for the New Republic.
(Apologizes for any errors in the summary, this is one of a few characters I have no personal experience with.)
Keeramak | Identity: alien nonbinary/intersex (it/its) | Media: The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic II: Refugee
The Keeramak was a mutant member of the normally sexually dimorphic Ssi-ruuk species (lizard aliens invading the Galaxy, not the Yuuzhan Vong, the other one). It was born of a union of two Ssi-ruuk of different colors, but unusually was born with scales of all caste colors. This birth fulfilled an ancient prophecy that foretold that it would free the lower caste Ssi-ruuk and the enslaved species P’w’eck. It was elected the leader of the Ssi-ruuvik Imperium by the religious elders and began to set plans to invade the Galaxy. However, because it didn’t do the liberation promised by the prophecy, the Keeramak was killed by revolting P’w’eck.
(Apologizes for any errors in the summary, this is one of a few characters I have no personal experience with.)
Garr | Identity: alien nonbinary | Media: Boba Fett: Crossfire
Garr was a young member of the Excargan species, which didn’t have sex differentiation until they were thirteen. Their parents were captured by the Separatists when Excarga was invaded, and the Republic put them on an orphanage transport ship where they met a young Boba Fett. They became Boba’s first friend, who was the only person who didn’t treat them weirdly for being genderless. When they arrived at the orphanage, Aurra Sing appeared and captured both of them. She only spared Garr because Boba Fett said they were his friend, despite then telling Garr they weren’t his friend to get them to leave Boba alone. Instead, Garr went to the Jedi who ran the orphanage and joined them pursuing Boba and Aurra Sing. Aurra almost killed them, but spared them at Boba’s insistence.
(Apologizes for any errors in the summary, this is one of a few characters I have no personal experience with.)

Beezechurger.
Unfortunately the name came about before Ashern was his own character, and in an effort to not completely change the name after the fact it ended up being shortened to Bez.
In short: I call him Beezechurger, Ashern calls him Bez.
I've seen a couple of people share their WoL's chocobo's names so far, and they're all ready cute, so I'm gonna take advantage of my platform to ask:
What's your WoL's chocobo's name?
I'll start: mine is Edwin! Because he kinda looks like an Edwin.
Edited to Add (Because I didn't even think about this last night, lol): I have two alts that have unlocked chocobos! One of the alts is Patia Por'co from Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, so I named her chocobo Avalir after the flying city from that same series. The other alt is based on one of my D&D characters, and his chocobo is named Phalanges after one of the party's two horses (he is solely focused on eating fingers).

Adam Beach
was born in Ashern, Manitoba, the son of Sally and Dennis Beach, and was raised on the Dog Creek First Nations Reserve, with his two brothers. A troubled childhood saw his mother killed by a drunk driver, and his alcoholic father drowned only weeks afterward. The three brothers went to live with their grandmother and then with their uncle and aunt in Winnipeg, where Adam joined drama classes and began acting in local theatre productions.
Since then he has appeared in over 60 films and television programs. His performance in the Academy Award-nominated Clint Eastwood-directed Flags of Our Fathers (2006) was phenomenal. He played Ira Hayes, a Pima Native American who was one of the six US Marines to raise the American flag on Iwo Jima and who found the resulting fame hard to handle, subsequently giving way to alcoholism. This alone would have been an emotional role for Adam to play; however, during filming, both his grandmother and best friend passed away. His role as Hayes is both realistic and heartbreaking, earning him two Best Supporting Actor Award Nominations. He stands out well above the rest of the cast.
Adam has been further nominated for three Awards for his role in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007) including a Golden Globe. He has put in terrific performances in the comedy film Joe Dirt (2001) and the John Woo World War II war epic Windtalkers (2002) in which he co-starred with Nicolas Cage.
He headlined the cast in the Walt Disney production Squanto: A Warrior's Tale (1994), featured in John Singleton's Four Brothers (2005) and starred with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig in the science fiction-western smash hit Cowboys & Aliens (2011). He had a starring recurring role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) and Big Love (2006).
In 2016, he played Christopher Weiss / Slipknot in the supervillain film Suicide Squad (2016).
Adam hopes to be appointed leader of his Lake Manitoba First Nation.
- IMDb Mini Biography By: Matt Lee-Williams
[on his role in Arctic Air (2012)] I do a lot of inspirational talks for kids, to motivate them to change their lives and give them hope. And I found that this character shares a lot of those qualities. A lot of the communities I connect to get their inspiration from television and YouTube. I felt that this character could reach out to them and really connect. He's a character who's struggling with himself. He's trying to get back in touch with the person he once was.
[on First Nations people in Canada, and their treaty rights] I'm asking what is anybody doing right now to propel anything? All they are after is how we get that land that the Indians have by using our power to take away our rights. You can't propel a nation to move forward if all you are doing is taking something from them.
I feel I will always have that spirit bear with me, so I will always feel protected.
We're not going anywhere. We are never going to give up our sovereignty. We will always advance and we will always rise above any conflict.

An investigator with the unit was involved in an organized crime bust in Manitoba. The figure resulted in more than 20 people being arrested and multiple kilograms of drugs being seized. Sired, 50, is charged with bribery, breach of trust, and conspiracy. He's accused of leaking information to drug dealers about police enforcement plans.
He was a member of the special investigations unit for Manitoba Finance, which typically investigates cigarette smuggling. Dawgpound, as the investigation was named by police, started in May 2022 and grew in leaps and bounds, with its scope reaching across the country, said Insp. Grant Stephen, the officer in charge of organized crime for the Manitoba RCMP.
He was a member of the special investigations unit for Manitoba Finance, which typically investigates cigarette smuggling. Dawgpound started in May 2022 and has developed by leaps and bounds. With its scope reaching across the country, said Inspector Grant Stephen, who serves as the officer in charge of organized crime for the Manitoba RCMP.
"Once we saw the totality of what we were looking at, we initiated a full-scale project with a primary target whom we aimed to disrupt."
That target was 36-year-old Hue Ha of Winnipeg, accused by RCMP of orchestrating the import of large amounts of cocaine from Ontario. Allege Ha fled to Ontario to pick up drugs and unstamped cigarettes and to Manitoba. They were distributed to communities throughout the province, including Winnipeg, Brandon, Poplar River, St. Laurent, Ashern, Fairford, and Gypsumville, police said.
The operation also reached well beyond the province, reaching Vancouver, Calgary, Pickering, Ont., Toronto, Moncton, N.B., and Prince Edward Island, police said. At some point, though, it became apparent that Ha had information about enforcement plans, the RCMP said. That leak was tracked to an inside source at Manitoba Finance and further narrowed down to Sired, police allege.
"I'm sure that law enforcement would say that when they begin investigations, they don't always know where it'll lead, and sometimes it brings them to unexpected places," Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen said. "It is a must that law enforcement follow the evidence and take action … even if it leads to places."
"Individuals can be lured into this type of activity for different reasons … but they're not above or immune to the law," Goertzen said of who you are or where you work. If you are helping individuals in any way in the distribution or manufacture of drugs, there are consequences."
Ha faces numerous charges, from conspiracy to trafficking, and 20 others from Manitoba and Ontario have been arrested. The accused include a Corps of Commissionaires guard at the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health, the Winnipeg lab complex that houses the National Microbiology Laboratory. RCMP says the guard met with Ha or others in the criminal organization while on lab property, then stored and trafficked drugs at work.
"The charges laid are concerning, and we are calling for an immediate internal investigation into the events that occurred on the grounds of the National Microbiology Laboratory," a spokesperson for the federal minister of health wrote in an emailed statement to CBC News. "We have also directed our officials to review internal security procedures."
The Public Health Agency of Canada said the guard was let go in January and had limited access to the lab. At no time did they have access to sensitive materials," a PHAC spokesperson said.
"We are reviewing our security operations and working with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires to strengthen our partnership to ensure security at our facilities." The Public Health Agency said it is cooperating with investigators.
The project removed more than $2.5 million in drugs from circulation. Police say the drugs, guns, and proceeds of crime that RCMP officers get off the streets through this project are significant and will the drug networks in this province," said Rob Hill, commanding officer of the Manitoba RCMP.
Investigators also seized prescription pills, cannabis, hash, shatter (cannabis concentrate), four vehicles, electronic devices, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and gang-related patches for the Crazy Indians. Handguns, seven semi-automatic rifles, seven shotguns, two rifles, and one 3D-printed firearm were seized.
The contraband cigarettes portion of the operation was worth $1.47 million in tax revenue. Warrants remain outstanding for two more people, Stephen said.

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 2): Bonus Poll: Continuity Overflow Match
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuehiro| Identity: trans male | Media: Ronin Novel
Yuehiro is a 14 year old Twi’lek adopted into Lord Hanari’s Jedi clan. Despite all the evil stuff the Jedi of Ronin do, they were supportive of him changing his name and moving into the boy’s dormitory. As a Jedi, he is too curious for his own good and got in trouble attempting to investigate rumors about a Sith demon and disappearing Jedi bodies. He was part of a group of Jedi apprentices rescued by the crew of the Poor Crow when Lord Hanari’s flagship was destroyed, joining them on their journey to the lost planet of the Rei’zu.
He is tied with Shogo (also from the Ronin novel) for being the first binary trans person in Star Wars.
