Sketchbook Work | Rock Study I had a dream that I was soaring through the air. A bear with deer horns was galloping in the wind next to me. It spoke to me in a language I understood but was not real and it said “Rice Cakes are crispy at dusk, check out at the motel six, gather your biscuits England will win.” I stared blankly. The the bear smiled and handed me a Milky Way candy bar, then melted into a form of cotton candy. Last night, as I was returning home from a quick trip to Connecticut, I decided to stop for a photo op. This was my second visit to the Old Stone Church. I visited in the morning last summer and made a few nice images, but I was hoping for more dramatic light this time around. While the sunset was a bit disappointing, the spotlit church against the blue hour, standing stoically, contrasted with blowing trees and moving water all around it, ended up making for a special image. Sketchbook Work How much you bench bro? It has been a busy week. Not enough hours in the day. It was the 4th of July weekend and all I’ve been doing is eating junk food. I do this every time by getting too much of it and I hate to waste food so I just shovel it all in. Then my energy plummets because who would have thought eating bad food doesn’t affect your performance. I am almost done eating all the leftover cookies and cake. Then I’ll be back on my program. Taking a break from Palouse images to share this shot I captured earlier this month at Watkins Glen in New York. I caught this image of the Narrows as sunlight filtered through the canopy of trees. In the gorge, the air temperature is markedly cooler, as the water racing through the gorge brings a cool breeze with it. It's an amazing place to experience nature- if you can handle all the steps! Today in class I talked about blind line contour (my favorite) continuous line drawing and negative space. I also discussed cylinders as a continuation from last class’ exercises. Since it is a summer course I am having to increase the content I talk about in class. I like the extra class time because it allows me to cover more ground and gives the students more breaks to digest the material. These are some of the drawings I did to convey my point to the class. They are nothing to brag about, the idea was more important.
