Probably cold coffee? I always wait too long on hot drinks and they get all nasty and lukewarm. Plus, cold has some bite to it.

Today we have a 2010s pop classic: “Chandelier” by Sia (music and lyrics by Sia and Jesse Shatkin)

When I was younger, I was sort of indifferent to this song, because it was so overplayed (at least where I was), but even then, I had to admit it was a finely crafted piece of modern musical art.

I mean, just listen to Sia’s insane vocal performance on the track.

There’s a reason that very few people try to sing her songs in karaoke or on singing competitions.

But anyway, when I was in the right mood, and I hadn’t heard it in a while, and it would come on in the car, I’d sing along, and just get frustrated, because at that point in my vocal journey, I didn’t have the technique nor the instrument capable of doing justice to it.

It was only recently that I started listening to it and had the courage, per se, to start singing along again.

Lo and behold, it sounded right.

So I offer this cover of “Chandelier” to you all.

This was, to date, the most challenging Nadia Sings to produce, not necessarily sing, because I had to multitrack it, which means I broke the song down and recorded it in different parts, because that’s what they did in the original recording, and it’s what I also had to do, to get the onset and offsets of the phrases to not sound clipped, just so I could get to the next part, which is what would have happened if I didn’t multitrack it.

You’ll hear what I mean when you listen to it—just look/listen for the overlaps.

Again, my usual disclaimer; this was recorded in my trusty recording studio (*cough*mydiningroom*cough*), using my favorite recording app, BandLab (not an advertisement, but you guys know the drill 🤣), and, as usual, while I put a little reverb effect on the backing track I used, as well as on my vocal track, this is otherwise as unadulterated a track as the one I posted last week, just my voice, with no pitch correction, recorded into my iPhone.

speculative fiction writers i am going to give you a really urgent piece of advice: don't say numbers. don't give your readers any numbers. how heavy is the sword? lots. how old is that city? plenty. how big is the fort? massive. how fast is the spaceship? not very, it's secondhand.

the minute you say a number your readers can check your math and you cannot do math better than your most autistic critic. i guarantee. don't let your readers do any math. when did something happen? awhile ago. how many bullets can that gun fire? trick question, it shoots lasers, and it shoots em HARD.

you are lying to people for fun. if you let them do math at you the lie collapses and it's no fun anymore.
