Doubt
Title: Doubt
Pairing: Alastor x reader (can be read as platonic or romantic)
Part 1 of the Never and Always series
Word Count: ~2,881
In which the reader inadvertently lets her feelings slip, and she finds out what she really means to Alastor.
Warnings: Slight angst, Fluff, A cuss word in there somewhere, ooc Alastor maybe
When the Radio Demon himself had asked you out to dance, how could you possibly have said no? After all, he wasn’t just the Radio Demon to you, he was Alastor - the man who had saved you from a life of imprisonment after you had naively sold your soul to the Vees, who had brought you back to Charlie’s Hotel, and who had since become one of the most trusted people in your life.
Even now, you weren’t exactly sure what had drawn Alastor to you all those years ago. Whenever you asked, he was quick to change the subject or deflect.
Not that you would ever complain, of course. Alastor had saved your life and demanded nothing in return, save for you staying away from the Vees’s territory, which you were only so happy to do.
Once you had settled into the hotel, you had found yourself a real family. One who watched your back and hugged you when things got hard. One who loved you despite your past and your flaws. One who didn’t abandon or use you.
All in all, your life here was better than your life when you were alive. You couldn’t wish for anything more.
At least, that’s what you thought.
Now, as you rifled frantically through your closet, you couldn’t help but wish that Alastor had given you a bit more warning before your outing.
He had approached you only half an hour prior, materializing in your room and grabbing your hand, pressing a soft kiss to your knuckles before straightening and asking if you would do him the honor of accompanying him to his old friend Mimzy’s club tonight.
You’d said yes, of course. Who would ever deny a night out? And how hard could it be to get ready in only an hour?
Exceedingly difficult, as it turned out.
Your rummaging became increasingly desperate as you searched your closet in vain, throwing dresses, shirts, blouses, and everything else that you owned on the floor as you discarded them. You were going out with Alastor, after all. You had to make a good impression.
You were stopped by a sudden knock at the door.
“Come in,” you called over your shoulder.
You listened as someone’s light footsteps entered your room. “Geez, dollface, was there a break-in or something?” The voice’s tone changed from confusion to amusement. “Or are ya finally burning all of your clothes so I can take you shopping?”
You huffed in indignation and spun to face Angel Dust, hands on your hips. “My closet is fine, thank you. I’m just-” you looked back at your empty closet and sighed, dropping your hands to your sides. There was no way you would be ready in the next half an hour without some help.
You turned back to face Angel, a sheepish grin on your face. “I don’t have time to go shopping, but I’ll let you give me a full makeover tomorrow if you help me get ready to go dancing at Mimzy’s club tonight.”
Angel smirked, raising an eyebrow as he leaned back against your doorframe. “A full makeover? You going on a date or something?”
“I’m going out with Alastor.”
His smile only grew in size. “Going out with Smiles tonight, huh?” He glanced down at your discarded pile. “I guess I can put something together. How much time do I have to work my magic? A few hours?”
You flushed, your fingers fidgeting with the hem of your shirt. “Can you make me presentable in the next thirty minutes?”
Angel waved his hand dismissively before grabbing your hand and leading you straight out of your room and across the hall to his own bedroom. “Of course I can, sweetcheeks, that’s nothing. I’ll have you ready in a jiff.”
You smiled appreciatively as Angel led you swiftly to his vanity and sat you in his chair. “I owe you one,” you promised.
He gave you a wink. “You don’t owe me nothing, sweetheart. Just sit back and let me work.”
~~~
True to his word, Angel managed to have you brushed up and looking like a princess in less than half an hour. To be honest, you were pleasantly surprised when you saw the finished look.
Not that you ever doubted Angel’s skills, of course, but where you had expected a bold face of makeup and a showy dress that followed today’s trends, he had gone in a vastly different direction.
Your makeup looked much more natural than you thought Angel was capable of. Your eyeshadow was dark, but subtle. Your eyeliner was winged, of course, and he had painted your lips a dark shade of red. The best part of the ensemble, though, was that he had dressed you in a surprisingly 50s looking modest black dress that he had had in his closet ‘just in case’. All in all, you had to admit that it was better than anything you could have ever put together.
You spun in front of his full length mirror. “I love it,” you said quietly, unable to stop the grin that spread across your features.
“Of course ya do,” Angel replied from his place on the edge of his bed. Fat Nuggets had taken up residency in his owner’s lap, and both of them were watching you with smug glee.
Well, as smug as a pig could get, anyway.
“And if I ain’t mistaken,” Angel continued, “Your date started five minutes ago. You should probably stop spinning and start walking.”
You stopped admiring your reflection and flushed. “I’m that late?” You walked backwards towards the bedroom door. “Thank you Angel, I owe you, really. See you later!”
The sound of Angel Dust chuckling kindly followed you across the hall as you quickly closed the door to your own room behind you.
A voice sounded out of the darkness. “Ready now, are we?”
You jumped at the sound and whirled around, flicking your lights on and staring in surprise when you saw Alastor perched on the edge of your bed.
“You know, my dear, it really is bad manners to…”
The demon trailed off when he finally caught sight of you.
You suddenly felt exceedingly self conscious as his eyes started to roam over your ensemble. It was 50s inspired, sure, but what if Alastor found it offensive? What if he thought it was laughable? What if he hated it? What if -
You stepped back as Alastor melted into the shadows and reappeared directly in front of you. His eyes studied your face almost curiously.
“Angel helped,” you piped nervously. “I couldn’t have done it on my own.”
“Nonsense,” Alastor replied as he raised a hand. He gently grasped your chin in his fingers and tilted your head from side to side. “The outfit you wore when I asked you to join me would have sufficed.”
You scoffed, pulling your chin back and looking down at the floor. “We’re going to Mimzy’s club, Al. I couldn’t have just shown up in a random shirt and pants.”
A clawed hand tilted your face back up to meet Alastor’s. You gasped in surprise when you saw that the two of you were practically nose to nose. “I do hope you haven’t finally started to doubt me, my dear,” Alastor said in a low voice.
“Never,” you breathed, not daring to blink.
If there was any one consistent presence in your life, it was Alastor. He had never steered you wrong, and the least you could do in return was trust his word.
The Radio Demon’s smile softened at your response. He released your chin and stepped back, looking you up and down one more time before turning away.
“I meant what I said, darling,” he drawled, the static in his voice ever present. “You would have been quite a gem even in your-” he rolled his eyes and waved his hand dramatically “-random shirt and pants.”
You couldn’t stop the blush from rising up to your cheeks. It was one thing for Angel to appraise his own work, but it was quite another for Alastor to agree with his assessment.
You cleared your throat. “I’m sorry I was late. Should we go? I know Mimzy doesn’t like to be kept waiting.”
A lie. You’d never met Mimzy before in your life. But if you were going to try and stop your blushing cheeking from giving away just how much you appreciated his compliment, you had to distract yourself somehow.
Alastor looked down at his pocket watch and hummed. “I do suppose we should be on our way. She did request an audience, after all.”
You blinked. “An audience? I thought…”
The overlord looked back at you with a raised brow, looking more confused than anything. “You thought what, my dear?”
You felt your shoulders sag, though you internally chastised yourself for feeling at all disappointed. How could you have assumed that Alastor’s only goal today was to dance with you at a club? Of course he had another motive.
You forced a smile on your face. “Nothing. Sorry. We should go.”
You tried to brush your disappointment away. It didn’t matter why he had asked you. The fact that he had asked at all was plenty.
Except it isn’t, a little voice inside of you whispered. For years now, Alastor had been your protector, watching over you and ensuring your safety, even while helping Charlie to look after the hotel and feuding with Vox.
As time had slowly gone by, you had hoped that maybe you could help Alastor as much as he had helped you. He wouldn’t let you help at his radio station, and since the Radio Demon wasn’t exactly an emotional sharer, you had decided that the least you could do was be a constant, solid presence in his life.
You had even thought that you were making progress over the past few months, and your hopes had been solidified when he had asked you out to Mimzy’s club. After all, he would never have asked you if he didn’t see you as some sort of friend, right?
Now, though, you could see how foolish you had been. How could you have ever hoped to help Alastor in any way? He was a demon of solitude, and your wish to help him had made you blind to that.
You started towards your door, hoping to hide the embarrassment flooding your cheeks.
But before you could make it, a shadow appeared ahead of you, frowning down at you as it blocked the door.
You refused to look him in the eye. “We’ll be late, Al. We need to go.”
“It seems as though you aren’t quite ready, my dear.” The static of his voice grew closer as he spoke. You tensed up when you felt his faint breath on the back of your neck. “After all, you’re never fully dressed without a smile.”
You finally turned to face him, hating the feelings flooding through your veins and the thoughts rushing through your head. How was Alastor ever meant to learn to lean on you if you couldn’t even hold yourself together? It was bad enough that you lacked his grace and poise, and now he would see what a truly pathetic and fucked up specimen he had saved all those years ago.
Alastor looked down at you, his expression ever passive, his smile ever present. But beneath the mask, his eyebrows were furrowed and his eyes were narrowed as he studied your face.
From behind you, his shadow placed two gentle hands on your shoulders, carefully holding you in place as if afraid that you would bolt.
You swallowed and forced your head up to meet the Overlord’s eyes, plastering a false smile on your face. “I’m ready.”
“You most certainly are not, my dear,” Alastor replied, the static in his voice fading to a soft buzz. He raised his hand silently and placed it on your cheek.
Instinctively, you tilted your head and allowed your cheek to be cradled gently by his clawed hands, closing your eyes as you savored the feeling. It was almost enough to make you forget what had upset you in the first place.
“Mon chere,” Alastor said, something resembling concern present in his voice. “What’s troubling you?”
You opened your eyes and found yourself staring into his. “I thought…” you began once again before pressing your lips together. It would do nobody any good if you confessed your thoughts out loud. You might even inadvertently push him away.
“Thought what?”
His eyes were searching yours for an answer you weren’t sure you were yet willing to give. His hand remained cradling your face, and his shadow behind you had yet to release you from its gentle touch.
You took a deep breath. Even if your true feelings did push him away, didn’t you at least owe it to him after all this time to be honest? Even if it was the last thing you were ever able to do for him.
You closed your eyes again. “I thought we were going to Mimzy’s to spend time together,” you admitted, hating the way your breath caught, hating the way your voice cracked, and hating the way your heart stopped. You pushed forward. “I didn’t realize you were going for business, I thought maybe you wanted to spend time together.”
A laugh bubbled its way through your lips. “It was silly of me to assume, though. I know you’re busy, I just thought maybe I was getting through to you. I thought you were starting to let your guard down around me, and that I could just be there for you.”
You stepped to the side, away from both Alastor and his shadow. “I thought we were becoming something like friends. It was a mistake. It won’t happen again.” You squeezed your eyes shut in desperation. “I know that I’m nothing more than a soul that you saved. I know that, I promise I do. And I won’t ever again mistake your actions for something that they’re not. So please don’t give up on me, Al. It won’t happen again, I promise.”
The room was silent.
Too silent.
You slowly glanced up.
Alastor’s shadow was gazing at you, unmoving from his spot by the door. Beside him, Alastor was looking past you and at the wall, his hands clenching his staff and his smile strained.
“You don’t need to say anything,” you said as you rushed to fix what you had broken. “Truly, you don’t. Let’s just go to Mimzy’s and forget that this ever happened.”
“Unfortunately, my dear,” Alastor drawled, his eyes flickering back to you. “This isn’t an interaction that either one of us will be able to forget by morning.”
You swallowed heavily, fighting back the tears that so desperately wanted to escape. “Please, Al.” Your voice was hardly a whisper. “Don’t give up on me, not now.”
At your words, his shadow melted into the ground and materialized before you, placing both hands gently on your cheeks and lowering his head down until your foreheads touched. Just as suddenly, the shadow stepped back and melted into the ground again, allowing the real Alastor to take his place.
He looked down at you once again, but this time, his expression was almost open, almost tender, almost endearing. He took your hand in his and pressed it to his lips before pressing it to the place that his heart would have been beating if you had met in another life.
For a moment, he said nothing. You waited with bated breath, trying to ignore the warmth in your chest at the fact that Alastor had yet to release you.
Then, when you thought you couldn’t bear the silence any longer, Alastor hummed softly. “I do hope you haven’t started to doubt me, my dear.”
“Never,” you vowed without a moment’s hesitation.
Alastor’s smile seemed to ease slightly. “I may not rely on you as much as you yourself would like.” If you didn’t know any better, you’d say that he was trying to choose his words carefully. “But do know this, mon chere. I doubt I would still be in one piece if it wasn’t for you. And I have no intention of giving you up.” His eyes flashed. “Not ever.”
Your knees almost gave out as you breathed a sigh of relief. Without thinking, you pressed forward, burying your face in his chest and wrapping your arms around him tightly. “Thank you, Al,” you whispered, your spirit bright.
Alastor gently took hold of your shoulders and pushed you back, though his eyes shined softly. “Careful now, my dear. We wouldn’t want to ruin all of Angel Dust’s hard work, now, would we?”
You laughed and lowered your arms. “I guess not.”
The Radio Demon smiled down at you, holding out his arm like the gentleman he was. “Shall we, then, my dear?”
You smiled back at him. For all of his secrets and tricks, he had only ever been kind to you. Why wouldn’t you accept?
You linked your arm through his and grinned as he guided you towards the door.
Perhaps you were doing a better job with Alastor than you had thought.
Chapter 6 - Ok It’s Happening! Everyone Stay Calm!
This chapter is going to span Tuesday night into Wednesday night. Nothing really happens in between the initial post and family dinner, so I tried to add some things to fluff it up. You finally get to read a bit of reader-lore. The next chapter, “Family Dinner,” will be posted Wednesday night. Enjoy and don’t forget to comment to be added to the tag list :D
Arthur had to leave early Monday morning. You were sad, but were thankful that he was able to come spend a few nights with you. You almost forgot why you were in London in the first place.
Oh yeah, to become one of the best freaking F1 drivers there ever were. You could see the TikTok edits now. You hoped there would be at least one with an Olivia Rodrigo song in the background. Or maybe Taylor Swift? The possibilities were endless.
You were able to drive the car a few more times in the span of Monday and today. You really felt like you were becoming more familiar with it. One of the last times, they put you into the RB-19, just to get a feel for it for Vegas.
Speaking of Vegas, something popped up on your Instagram that you just had to share with Vito.
“Hey Vito, can you find me someone to marry while I’m in Vegas?” you nonchalantly asked while the two of you were having breakfast. He nearly spit out his orange juice.
“Excuse me?” he responded while wiping his mouth with the nice cloth napkin. The brunch place was very high end. You ended up getting pancakes though, while Vito got something you didn’t even want to try to pronounce.
“Well, there’s this Formula 1 wedding chapel, and I thought, how cool would it be to get married there while it’s up? So, I thought I’d ask to see if you could find me someone.”
Vito took a deep breath before massaging his brow. He was “this close” to quitting. But he would never do that to you. Instead, he said, “Kid. You cannot get married in Vegas.”
He thought you would have put up more of a fight, but you just shrugged and stuffed your mouth full of another bite of pancake. He shook his head as he tried to take another sip of his drink. The breakfast went well after that. You didn’t try to bring it up, but somehow, you would find your way to this chapel. Even if you weren’t going to get married.
As the two of you walked out of the building, you angled your body to Vito. “So, what do I have to do?”
He looked at his phone, “So you have to approve your helmet. And then we have to take some pictures for your post tonight. Tomorrow we have a flight to catch that will take us to Vegas. After, you will get settled at the hotel and then eat dinner with the team.”
“Geez, that seems like a lot doesn’t it?” You opened the driver door to your vehicle. Vito had said that it was your time to drive. You wanted to argue that every other waking moment was spent behind the wheel, but you knee that he wanted to be the passenger princess for once. He said that was not the case as he couldn’t handle you picking Country Girl by Luke Bryan one more time.
He said he even heard the song in his dreams.
You thought that was total madness. How could someone get tired of Luke Bryan. Maybe Daniel would listen to it with you at some point, if the two of you got close enough. Vito had walked around the car, got in, and started to buckle.
Using the button to start the car, the engine came to life. You carefully backed out of the parking space and pulled onto the road. Per the request of the Vito and Mitch, you were to return to RB to go over some last-minute paperwork and things of that nature.
Since the drive was so familiar by now, the time seemed to fly by even faster. You knew what you were doing. It was crazy to think that just last week, you were winning your F2 championship with no future plans. And now you were pulling up to headquarters like it was just another Tuesday.
Time was weird like that.
At the building, you almost cried when you saw your helmet. You wanted to make a joke, but decided against it. You could do that later over the radio in free practice one. It was everything that your little F1-loving heart ever wanted. The white and silver had a great contrast. But your favorite part was the glitter. You tried it on and had a couple of pictures taken. You let them know which ones were your favorites.
You later found yourself in a conference room going over last-minute legal things. Vito made sure that you knew what you were getting into with a multi-year contract and how much it would damage you if you were to break it. You were still 100 percent with it all. You also discussed what picture you wanted to use for their official statement. You picked one that had been taken after your first F2 win of the 2023 season. You sheepishly smiled when they pointed out the Mercedes logo, but you told them that it was there since you had won a sponsorship to help pay for everything. You had no loyalties to the other British team.
“All right, I think that wraps things up. Any questions, comments, or concerns?” one of the lawyers asked as he packed his things up.
With multiple shakings of heads, he bid farewell and left the room.
Now that it was just you, Mitch, and Vito, you spun your chair to face the two of them. You felt like a villain out of a movie as you put your hands together.
“Mitch, did you bring the special thing that I asked for?” you said in a darker tone, wanting to feel mysterious.
She rolled her eyes as she got up and walked to a clothing bag that was laying on the end of the table. She brought it back over and laid it over your lap.
You unzipped the bag and stared at the item. It was a vintage Red Bull bomber jacket. Just the sight wanted to make you cry.
You stood up and carefully put the jacket on. You turned towards Mitch and Vito.
“How do I look?” you asked. Now you were getting shy. You might be loud with people you were comfortable with, but you always put people’s opinion of you over anything else. They both had comforting smiles.
“I think you were born to wear that jacket kid,” Vito said, with almost tears in his eyes.
“Same here Y/n. You truly belong with us,” Mitch said as she gave you a hug. You let a few tears fall when doing so. It had been long since you really felt accepted somewhere.
With your parents, you constantly wanted their approval, but never got it. That drove you to be the best at everything. People always told you to quit in F4, but you slowly rose above them as you entered F3. There, people told you that you, a girl, did not belong in F3. You were only 15 at the time.
You proved them wrong as you became the first female to join the ranks of F2 two years later. You spent 3 years fighting for your hard earned right to be there. It got easier with the help of friends, but you always wanted more. One more chance to prove yourself. And you got that with the F1 seat.
“Could we take a few pictures for me to post later?” Mitch and Vito agreed. You three found a nice spot on a hidden balcony. It basically looked like you were on the sidewalk, but you wouldn’t take that risk. It was too close and you had people right where you wanted them.
You had grabbed an iconic can of Red Bull on your way out and cracked it open to pose with it. It took a good 30 minutes for you to get the pose correctly.
While going through those photos, you spoke up.
“Did you know that my first kart had the Red Bull logo on it. I loved that thing, even if I crashed it multiple times.” You chuckled at the memories.
“What goes around comes around,” Vito muttered as he went through the photos.
“Reminds me of that Taylor Swift sound on Tik Tok. It’s been a long time coming.”
Mitch gave a playful scoff, “You should use that as your caption.” You hadn’t thought of that! Mitch definitely thought that you wouldn’t, but the look on your face showed her that you really wanted to do it. She, once again, rolled her eyes at your antics. But, she herself was comforted by your easy-going personality. She had only known you for a couple of days, but you were becoming very dear to her.
You were becoming very dear to everyone. Every worker was amazed at your talent. A few even compared you to Sebastian Vettel and their very own champion Max Verstappen. But Mitch wouldn’t tell you that in fear of scaring you off. It was a big thing to be compared to the two legends, but you didn’t need that pressure on you. You already had been through so much. Vito had let Mitch know before of what has happened with past race strategists. She never wanted to be like what you’ve had to deal with.
You now were beginning to explain the entirety of why Taylor Swift was re-recording her albums in the first place. Your hands were pointing at invisible objects in the air while Vito just stood and listened. Mitch thought it would be hilarious to see you and Max discuss race tactics.
There was the Maxsplaining and the Leclerifying. Now you would be Y/n-strating (illustrating but with your name in front).
“And that is why we don’t like Scooter. We’re gonna come for his ankles before he can come for ours. Mother never told us to be nice to him,” you gestured as you finished your rant. Vito looked bored to death while Mitch was just smirking at the two of you. You wondered what she was thinking about.
Oh well. She could read your mind but you couldn’t read hers.
When it got dark, you and Vito headed back to hotel to pack before you were supposed to be at the hotel. Riggs, Lacy, Mitch, and other personnel would be flying out with you. There would be no commercial flight, instead there would be a private plane for everyone. You couldn’t wait, since this would be the first time to fly privately.
There was really nothing different to it until you actually got on the plane. Security was the same and the private lounge area wasn’t much different than the ones you had already been to. There were fewer seats on the plane, but everyone fit comfortable.
You were excited that you didn’t have to pay for WIFI on the plane to watch your TV shows. There were a couple of Brooklyn 99 episodes that you hadn’t seen yet. Once those were finished, you told yourself that you’d take a quick nap and wake up way before you landed.
That was a lie.
You practically slept the entire way there, and was only awoken by the plane landing. You were excited to be back in the states. You hadn’t been in years. Texas would always be your favorite state though, since you lived there for 5 years when you were in your teens. You had begged Arthur and Ollie to go with you once, but they declined and you ended up not going. You couldn’t wait to drive at COTA.
The nap really helped as you weren’t exhausted when you got to the hotel. Vito told you though that you had time to sleep before you needed to wake up the next morning. But the nerves were getting to you.
At 9 a.m. Red Bull would be posting the statement. Which reminded you to do the same. You inhaled sharply as you picked the pictures on your Instagram. You were able to find a picture of your old kart, and you definitely used Mitch’s suggestion for the caption. You tagged Red Bull before posting and turning off your phone. You could deal with everything tomorrow morning when you had gotten a good night’s sleep.
Well, that good night’s sleep was way too short for your liking. Your alarm sounded way too loud and interrupted the nice dream that you were having. It was something about marrying some dude at the F1 chapel. You just couldn’t get it out of your mind.
You took a shower to at least feel better. The staleness of the plane air clung to you throughout the night. Should you have showered after sending the world into a panic? Yes. But did you? No. Your phone might as well have combusted last night. Turning on the front screen, there were thousands upon thousands of notifications. You simply swiped left and deleted them all.
Opening your Instagram, it was worse. Your face was everywhere. Happily, enough, almost everything was a positive outlook. Only a few bad ones stood out, but you knew better than to look. While scrolling, you were interrupted by a face time request from Ollie. You quickly picked up and were met with the sight of his face. With jaw dropped, he just stared at you.
“Hello to you to?”
You pulled the phone away from your face as he started screeching. You just listened as he ranted for another 10 minutes before he went silent.
“You done?” you deadpanned.
“Uh, yeah. I think so.”
“Ok good.” You went on to tell him about everything that happened in the past week. He definitely whined when you told him that Arthur knew before he did. He demanded that you tell him next time. And you told him that you hoped that there wouldn’t be a next time. You were determined to stay with Red Bull for as long as possible.
After the phone call, you kind of just chilled around the room all day. Dinner wasn’t until later and you had time to get ready.
After watching episodes upon episodes, you saw that you needed to get ready. With your trusty playlist, cans of hair spray, your makeup, and your curling iron – you were ready for the battle that was looking perfect for dinner.
Each curl had to be calculated, each face product must be weighed to the exact suggested amount. Did you do either? No.
You just did it how you normally did, and somehow you got it done. You took a quick picture and posted it on your story. The dress you picked was black. A long slit showed just enough leg, while there was only one sleeve. You paired it with some gold heals. You only hoped it wasn’t too much, but you wanted to make a good impression. Vito had gotten the go ahead from Christian beforehand. The restaurant was supposed to be of the upmost hoity-toity-ness and you hoped you wouldn’t make a fool of yourself.
With a knock on your door, you knew it was time to meet the family.
If I Should Stay
This one is on time! Woohoo! 😂
Part 1 | . . . | Part 27 | Part 28 | Part 29
Eddie leaves eventually, Steve seeing him out. He jumps when he turns around and sees Alli standing there, smirk on her face, arms crossed. “Geez, Alli,” he laughs, “gonna have to put a bell on you.”
“Don’t deflect,” she says, but she’s smiling.
“You haven’t actually said anything yet,” he responds, and she gives him a look that screams, do I really need to?
After a few seconds of thought, he shrugs. “Fair enough. We’re waiting, for now.”
“For what?”
“The end of the end of the world.”
“Christ,” she laughs, moving to ruffle his hair, “you’re dramatic.” She inclines her head towards the kitchen. “Hot chocolate?”
He smiles and nods. “Haven’t had a cup as good as yours in thirteen years, Al, think I’m about due.”
She gives him a sad sort of smile and ruffles his hair again. “Then I’ll just have to make this the best cup ever, to make up for all those, huh?”
“When’s the last time you saw me?” He asks suddenly, watching as she stirs the milk on the stove, adding a bit of cinnamon.
She frowns over at him. “This morning, before I left. Why?”
He shrugs. “Just wondering. Who’d you hang out with?”
A blush colors her cheeks. “Cassidy.”
“Oh,” he says, and grins at her. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she agrees.
“It’s going well?”
“It’s going so well, bubba, I love her,” she breathes.
He grins and hands her the cocoa. “Yeah?”
“God, so much, we’re talking about finding a place and moving in together, and I can’t wait.”
“How long have you been together?”
“About a year and a half. It’s hard, y’know? You don’t know who’s safe and who isn’t.”
Steve hums. “I know.”
“But it’s going… really well, God, and now that you know, everyone important knows.”
Steve grins. “Mom and Dad?”
Alli laughs. “Never. A few other friends, a few of her friends, though we’re mostly all friends. She’s got a little brother too, a little younger than you, and he knows too.”
He narrows his eyes at her. He remembers Cassidy’s younger brother. “How old do you think I am?”
She gives him a shit-eating grin before shrugging. “I dunno, like, eight?”
“Asshole,” he says, but he’s laughing, and she’s laughing, and he’s happy.
The night doesn’t last forever, though; soon enough their mugs are drained and they’re both yawning, and they promise to catch up tomorrow over coffee before Steve has school and Alli has work.
That plan is derailed when Alli shakes Steve awake twenty minutes before he has to leave. “Shit,” he curses groggily, throwing open his closet doors and jumping out of his sleep pants at the same time. He settles on a polo and jeans before rushing over to his phone to call Robin, who answers just as groggily as he’d been.
“‘Lo?”
“Robs,” Steve says urgently, “school. Imma be there in fifteen.”
“Shit!” She screeches, and he hears her rush out of bed. “I owe you my life, I’ll get you a bagel, see you!”
With that, she ends the call and he chuckles as he rushes to the bathroom to try to tame his hair.
He squeezes Alli in passing before grabbing his car keys and rushing out the door, before just as quickly rushing in and grabbing his backpack. “Love you, bye!” She calls, but the door’s shut before he can answer.
Still, he calls a, “Love you!” Over his shoulder, in the off chance she hears it, before making his way to Robin’s house.
She throws open her door and runs to his car when he pulls up, waving to her mom, who appears in the doorway, looking mystified.
“Steve,” she says as soon as she’s seated, “I owe you my life.”
Steve chuckles and takes his bagel from her. “Yeah, you said that earlier. I honestly was calling just to see if I was gonna drive you or not.”
Robin snorts. “If you think I’d willingly put myself through the mortifying ordeal of riding the bus ever again, you clearly don’t know me as well as we thought.”
Steve chuckles. “I figured as much,” he agrees. “Then as it turns out you were still asleep, so the answer was pretty obvious. Forget to set your alarm?”
She groans and throws her head back. “Yes. I’m not used to being in school.”
Steve nods. “Same here, Alli woke me up twenty minutes before I had to leave.”
Robin smiles. “She seems cool.”
“Alli? She is. She’s the coolest, honestly, she was super cool when I told her about Eddie. Oh!” He says suddenly, flapping a hand her direction. “Eddie!”
Her brows fly into her hairline. “Eddie?”
“He stayed last night,” Steve starts. “Well, stayed later, anyways. We went out onto my roof and smoked a joint together and just… started talking, y’know? And, uh.” He can feel his cheeks turn scarlet. “We decided to wait until after the end of the world. But we do wanna try.” He bites his lip and says, quieter, wondering, “He thinks I’m worth waiting for. Working for. He’s gonna try, after you and I are back in our present.”
“Steve,” Robin whispers, staring at him. “That’s great, I’m so happy for you.”
He smiles shyly. “Thanks,” he whispers. “I’m hopeful, y’know?”
“Yeah,” she whispers back, and he knows she does actually understand.
iii. care for you
series masterlist main masterlist prev next
The office is filled with silence, except for the constant clattering sound from the keyboard. Though, Alhaitham's peaceful ambience is ruined when a blonde haired man with a half updo hairstyle barged into his office without notice.
"Here's your coffee. You should really hire an assistant soon, I'm tired of having to buy you drinks all the time." Kaveh intervened, placing the cup on his desk.
The Chief Operating Officer's eyes are still glued to his computer, subconsciously ignoring his friend. He reached for the cup to take a sip, as Kaveh slammed his hand on the mahogany desk. "Ugh, can't you see that I'm busy right now?" Alhaitham grimaced.
"I won't leave unless I hear a thank you."
"Fine, thank you for the coffee Kaveh."
"It's insincere," Alhaitham immediately turned his gaze towards him, his eyes narrowing, "...fine I'll leave, geez. What got you so worked up this morning."
Kaveh left instantly, as Alhaitham facepalmed.
Truth is, you have been in his mind ever since last night. For the past few days, he has been quite observant of you.
It piqued his curiosity, because every time he came back from work and you're fast asleep, he would always hear you screaming. He ignored it however, thinking that maybe you're suddenly awake and decide to watch a horror movie. Which is... quite illogical for a man who always use logic above anything else.
It is until, he heard your scream for three times in a row every night that he decided to check on you. Even though he made a rule himself to not enter each other's room, he's still concerned.
The sight of you crying is still as clear as day, as well as the fact that you both hugged that night- it feels illegal to be that close to you.
Alhaitham is usually not the type to care about what other people thinks, but it's otherwise when it comes to you. Most of the time, he's more self-conscious around you.
As for now, he's only hoping that you don't remember what he did last night.
When the clock strikes five, Alhaitham didn't waste a minute to pack his things up and heads out of the door of his workplace, actively avoiding any coworkers who dare to approach him with more works. He can deal with them tomorrow.
He languidly walks to the parking lot, quickly entering his car. He sits for a moment, while loosening his tie.
Alhaitham decided to pick you up today. Entering his keys, he immediately drive to your college.
Last night's predicament never once left his mind. But, as embarrassing as it is for him to enter your room without your consent, his goal is to at least know what had been bothering you.
You might not notice however, the man had always been watching out for you.He had noticed it all. He noticed every little thing that you do. From head to toe, even.
When you brought up about divorce to him, he's surprised.
To his dismay, even the most intelligent and prominent figure of the Akademiya University that is known to have mastered several languages can't even describe what he feels.
Though, he would rather hide it than letting the world know. He feels a surge of responsibility through his body, which is stronger than before— which is why he ends up pulling up in front of your school. While mindlessly tapping the steering wheel with the car windows rolled down.
He's looking out for any possible friends of yours, to ask where have you been.
Unbeknownst to him, you had taken a day off. Alhaitham didn't even realise the slight furrow on his brows, as he drove away and went straight to home.
Since it's your grandma's birthday, you decided to visit her grave. You placed down the bouquet of red tulips, as you sit down. The atmosphere was quite, the thoughts inside you the only thing that is keeping you company.
It was only after a short while before you decided to go back.
Entering the passwords, the door opened as you stepped in.
You are suddenly greeted by a smell, the apartment being engulfed by an aromatic and pleasant smell— which of course comes from the kitchen.
"Oh, you're finally home. Where have you been?" Alhaitham turned to see you clad in all black attire.
"...Ah, I went to the graveyard then I stopped by a convenience store." You replied awkwardly. His eyebrows slightly raised. "You didn't tell me you took a day off. I stopped by the school to pick you up." He finished, as he returns to cooking.
"Sorry, I turned my phone off for today," You paused for a while, waiting to see his reaction before continuing, "Um, anyway... about last night I'm sorry. I guess I just watch too much movie that they started appearing in my dreams..."
Silence. Is he ignoring me?
Alhaitham turned off the stove, lifting the pan with fried chicken rice before dividing them into two ceramic plates.
"Come sit. I made dinner."
You hesitantly make your way towards the dinner table, slowly sliding the chair (you don't even know why you did that) as you sit across of Alhaitham. Not before placing the plastic bags filled with snacks inside for you to munch on when you're studying. The man before you then hands you a set of cutlery, a glass of water and not forgetting to put a box of tissue between you both.
You muttered a small thanks to him, to which he only nodded as you start eating.
Your eyes widened at the taste, absentmindedly nodding to yourself as an approval. His lips quirked up for a moment, which you failed to notice.
"Ahem. I noticed that you look unhealthy than usual. Do you want me to arrange an appointment to a doctor? I know someone you can trust."
"Oh..! Aha, no need. I already had contacted Dr. Baizhu... I have an appointment with him tomorrow."
He paused for a while, as if contemplating if he should tell you to cancel the meeting and choose another doctor instead.
"...I'll go with you. Just incase." You look up at him, taken aback at the offer, "I don't have any work tomorrow so you shouldn't worry." He lied.
Alhaitham then stands up, collecting your finished plate and his as he put them in the sink. Leaving no room for you to object his advances.
Modern Au, Yandere! Ymir x Female Reader
”Aren’t you guys excited for tomorrows concert?!” Y/N practically screamed into her phone.
”I heard that they’re good but their music isn’t really my type. I’m still happy to go!” Armin said calmly as he stared into the screen.
”I like the rock music they do. It’s..a vibe.” Mikasa mumbled, her chains rattling as she moved a bit.
”Babe, why are you so interested in these losers?” Eren asked as he grabbed a flyer off of his bed. “The Hidden Outsiders? What type of name is that? And aren’t they all gay for each other-“
”HEY! REINER AND BERTOLT MAY LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE CHEMISTRY BUT THEY DONT!” Y/N yelled.
”Geez babe! Calm down.” Eren muttered as he looked at her through the screen.
”The lead singer is so cool! Her names Ymir and shes got a ton of piercings and I think she has a few small tattoos.” Y/N squealed.
”Still, you wasted so much money on these tickets when you have ME! The fantastic Eren Yeager.” Eren said as he smirked.
”Eren no one wants to hear your seagull screams again..” Armin mumbled.
”I have sensitive ears, please don’t sing.” Mikasa begged. “You sing those weird Tik Tok songs too.”
”Eren-“
”STICKING OUT YOUR GYATT FOR THE RIZZLER!” Eren screeched as Mikasa and Armin immediately hung up. “YOUR SO SKIBIDI, what’s next..? Uh YOUR A SIGMA?”
“EREN SHUT UP!” Y/N yelled. “Besides your terrible singing, I was glad to see you baby.” Y/N said.
”Aw thanks my love.” Eren cooed. “If only I wasn’t grounded today. I would have you over and hug and cuddle you so much until you bled out marshmallows.”
”Okay big guy, your pushing it now.” Y/N replied. “Besides, if it wasn’t for me, your mom wouldn’t let you go tomorrow.”
”I’ll see you at that lame concert then.” Eren sighed before saying goodbye and hanging up.
Y/N got up and walked to her wardrobe, choosing her favourite outfit and laying it out nicely to get it pressed. Quickly taking out her shoes, Y/N fixed up her outfit and quickly went to sleep.
Then next day, Y/N woke up got ready for the day and ran some of her moms errands for her to keep herself occupied. As soon as the night arrived, Y/N rushed into her room, got changed and ran to Mikasa’s house.
Upon arrival, Y/N saw her walking out of her house with a shorter grumpy man. Walking up to the breathless girl, Mikasa handed her a ticket to the concert.
”Hurry up brat.. it’s already late at night.” The man grumbled as he started up his car. “Be grateful I’m even doing this for you.”
”Sorry about my uncle. Sometimes he gets really grumpy at me since he’s old and stuff.” Mikasa muttered. “His names Levi.”
”I’m not old!” Levi yelled from inside the car. “Get in.”
Sitting in the backseat with Mikasa, Y/N texted Eren that they’d be arriving in less than 15 minutes as Levi began to drive. Arriving at the crowded area, Y/N thanked Levi for the ride and quickly ran towards Eren as she hugged him tightly, soon greeting Armin.
”I’m so excited! Let’s get into the lines.” Y/N squealed as she grabbed Erens hand and rushed into the queue. After who knows how long, the group quickly rushed towards the front area where they could see the stage clearly.
”I’m so glad we got in with VIP tickets.” Armin said.
”Yeah! Imagine if we didn’t.. you guys saw those lines didn’t you?” Y/N asked.
”These guys aren’t really my type of musicians but it’ll be good.” Mikasa muttered as she fixed her chain necklace.
”Still don’t know why we are here for our anniversary baby.” Eren said as his arm draped over Y/N’s shoulder. “I could do my own concert-“
”No!” The trio yelled in unison.
”Fine fine! Geez you people have got to calm down.” Eren mumbled under his breath. “Hey loads of fans are coming now, that must mean it’s about to begin right?”
”Yeah. I can’t wait to hear them!” Y/N squealed.
”Let’s take a picture quickly, I’ll send it to you guys.” Armin said as he pulled out his phone and taking a group photo. Soon after, smoke flooded the area as fans cheered loudly as the opening music began playing.
“Hello [Country Name] !” An energetic voice yelled as the group began walking onto the stage.
”ITS YMIR! OH MY GOD!” Y/N squealed as she gripped Erens hand.
”Thank you all for coming to our show tonight!” Reiner said as girls began screaming at his charming smile.
“Put down your phones and watch with your eyes cause this will be one heck of a concert!” Krista exclaimed into the microphone.
”We hope you enjoy tonight!” Bertolt mumbled before speaking up. Everyone began cheering before they started playing the opening of one of their songs.
As the songs were being played and sung, the constant stare on Y/N bothered her. She could feel as though someone was watching her every move even though everyone was watching the celebrities ahead.
Looking towards the stage, she saw Ymir staring right at her whilst she sung the song and played her guitar. Looking away, Y/N continued to enjoy the music along with her friends until the end of the concert.
”Thank you all so much for coming to tonight! We hope you all enjoyed-“ Reiner began to announce.
”Before we take our leave, you in the front. The pretty one.” Ymir said as she grabbed her microphone and walked towards them, squatting to get a better view. The crowd began to scream at her movements, causing Ymir to smirk.
”Me?” Y/N asked to her.
”Yeah you, can I get your number? You’re really my type y’know.” Ymir said before the crowd screamed even louder.
”Uh well, I already have a boyfriend.. “ Y/N mumbled as she held Erens hand.
”Sorry about that, but this pretty lady is already taken.” Eren said as he kissed Y/N’s cheek. The crowd began to coo at the couple as did the other members of the band. Ymir only scoffed quietly before standing up again.
”Ah, at least I asked!” She laughed out, trying to shake off the anger.
”Thank you all for coming! We hope to see you all soon!” Bertolt spoke into his microphone before all of them left the stage.
Leaving the stadium, Y/N swung her hand with Eren and kissed him goodbye before hopping into Levi’s car with Mikasa.
”What took you all so long?” Levi asked.
”It’s a concert.” Mikasa bluntly answered. “What did you expect us to do?”
”Whatever.. some drunk people started knocking on my damn window. Asking for my damn number.” Levi muttered before driving off.
The drive was as slow as Y/N stared out of the window and looked up at the stars were scattered across the dark sky. Making it home, Y/N thanked them for the ride before getting out and walking into her house.
”Hi honey.” M/N called out from the kitchen. “How was the concert?”
”It was awesome mom! The lead singer even talked to me!” Y/N said as she walked over to her mom.
”Lucky you! Your father isn’t home yet so you should get to bed before he scolds you.” M/N said.
”Alright then. Good night mom!” Y/N replied as she hugged her mom, quickly heading to her room afterwards.
Falling into her bed, Y/N sighed as she grabbed her phone and looked texted Eren ‘Good Night my Monkey.’ Soon after she received a message saying ‘Good night my NoogieBoogie 🥰’. Laughing at Erens humour, Y/N turned off her phone and went to sleep, not bothering to change her clothes.
The next morning, Y/N got up tired and got changed into her uniform quickly before heading out of the house and straight to school. Walking along the sidewalk, Y/N felt a lingering stare as she continued heading to her school.
Turning around to see, the cars had all been parked as usual and no one else seemed to be around except for the other students walking to school.
Days went by and the same feeling of being stalled stayed with Y/N. Despite telling her parents, her father told her that no one would be doing such a thing to a school girl.
However, Eren was much more help as he started walking to school with her and making sure to drop her off. His bad behaviour continued which led to him having his mother to punish him by grounding him once again.
”Y/N my pookie wookie bear. How about you come over whilst my mom and dad go out?” Eren asked on the call.
”I don’t know.. your mom said you are grounded and it would be bad if we went against her words.” Y/N said.
”She said I’m not allowed to go to anyone’s house. But she didn’t say anything about anyone coming over!” Eren exclaimed.
”Alright, when are they leaving?” Y/N asked as she slipped her shoes on.
”In ten minutes, you should start walking now.” Eren replied.
”Alright then, I’ll see you in a bit. And don’t call me that!” Y/N scolded before hanging up and leaving the house.
Walking to his house, Y/N felt none of the lingering stares and felt more relaxed as she calmly walked along the sidewalk. Crossing the road, Y/N turned a corner and walked down the lane before reaching Erens house.
Walking up to the door, she had seen it nearly torn off. Unsure of what to do next, Y/N hesitantly stepped in before raising her voice out.
”E-Eren.?! Are you home?” Y/N asked as she walks into the ransacked living room. “If this is a p-prank then you need to stop!”
Loud noises could be heard upstairs which led to Y/N slowly walking up the creaky stairs, soon standing in front of Erens room. The noises were louder than before and voices could be heard mocking someone as if they were intentionally trying to hurt them.
Suddenly a large figure was standing in a different doorway causing Y/N to step back and look at it.
”R-Reiner?! What’re you doing in this house.?” Y/N asked as he looked at her. The sounds from within the room stopped as the door swung open, revealing Bertolt.
”What’re you all doing here?!” Y/N yelled as she tried to run down the stairs only to be grabbed by Reiner from the arm. “Let me go!”
”Bring her in and leave. All of you.” A similar voice called out from inside Erens room.
”Let go of me! You’re all mad! Crazy!” Y/N screamed out as Reiner dragged her into the room. Looking up she saw Eren ,tied to a chair which had tipped over, beaten to the point were he was close to death. Beside him was Krista and Ymir, who held a bloody baseball bat in her hand.
”Hello Y/N.” Ymir said as she got up and dropped her bat. “Sit down please.” Watching the other three members leave the room, Y/N rushed towards Eren and held his hand tightly.
”You’re all monsters! How could you do this-“ Y/N yelled out only to be pulled back by the collar.
”What did I say doll? I said to sit.” Ymir muttered as she threw her away from Eren. “You don’t want me to hit your boyfriend for every time you misbehave do you?”
”I-I no! Please just leave him alone! I’ll do anything just stop hurting him!” Y/N cried out as she saw Ymir smash Eren with her baseball bat.
”Anything? You can be so beautiful yet so stupid Y/N.” Ymir mocked as she grabbed her face. “You’d do anything for a silly boy who uses you?”
”Eren doesn’t do that! He loves me and I love him, I don’t get why you’re so mad about it!” Y/N exclaimed angrily.
“Why I’m so mad? You kept staring at me in your slutty outfit and that night and have the audacity to tell me you have a boyfriend in front of the whole damn crowd!” Ymir yelled as she grabbed onto Y/N’s hair.
Erens muffled cries grew louder as he watched helplessly from behind them. Y/N breathed heavily as Ymir came closer and closer to her face, before smirking.
”You need to be punished.” Ymir mumbled before lifting Y/N over her shoulders and tossing her onto the bed.
”No! Stop it! Help me! Someone help me-“ Y/N cried out before Ymirs lips crashed down into hers, quickly pulling away and slapping a hand over her mouth.
”Shut up. You’re louder than that idiot.” Ymir grumbled as she grabbed both of Y/N’s hands and held them above her head.
Yanking Y/N’s skirt off with her teeth, her panties came off with it revealing her cunt. Ymir stared at the dry cunt that laid before her, quickly placing the tip of her nose near it before latching onto it with her tongue.
Y/N’s muffled moans vibrated against Ymir’s hand causing her to stick her fingers into Y/N’s mouth.
”Suck on them. You love moaning don’t you? Moan around my fingers you pretty girl.” Ymir ordered.
Eren lay helplessly as he sobbed his heart out, unable to get free or even see his beloved girlfriend in their last moment.
As she finally cummed into Ymir’s mouth, Y/N breathed heavily as Ymir moved her fingers out of Y/N’s mouth. Rolling up her sleeve, Ymir stuck her fingers straight into Y/N’s cunt and swirled it around as Y/N’s moans erupted into the room.
”Such a pretty slut.” Ymir mumbled into Y/N’s ear before kissing her on the lips again.
Hey!! What’s up? I was wondering if you could do number 3 on the prompt list with Alex Turner but can you make it like a hurt/comfort thing where maybe they get into some sort of fight? I don’t wanna be too specific because I hate taking away creative freedom but I would love you forever🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🥰
CW:MENTIONS OF SICK.
A/N I am so so so sorry that it has taken me more than a month to get to my requests but i have been super super busy with everything just taking some time out for myself but im back and carrying on with everything while dealing with writers block for arabella ahagaha anyway for those wanting to request... prompt list is here. on with the showwww
PROMPT 3: "I need you"
words: 1,058
⋆。°✩
⋆。°✩
"ALEX. GO AWAY. I DON'T FEEL WELL. I DON'T NEED YOU HERE. LOOKING AFTER ME LIKE SOME TINY TODDLER BA-" I shouted from inside the bathroom door, which was cut off by emptying the contents of my stomach into the toilet bowl.
"darling I just want to be here for you. help you."
"yeah well not right now. I don't need you getting sick just before you have to leave for tour tomorrow. I can't let you risk it. If you want to help go stay at a hotel so you don't get infected with whatever I've got going on right now"
"okay. okay. I'm going right now. call me if you need anything. promise"
"I promise Alex. go. I don't need you here."
an hour had passed when I had finally gotten up from the bathroom floor. finally emptying all that I could from my stomach.
"knock knock. I'm coming in." Natalie. my best friend had announced herself.
"ugh. not you as well. Nat I'm fine. I don't need everyone babysitting me. I've dealt with sickness on my own before I don't need everyone looking after me I'm not a child"
"oh wow. I was only coming to say hello. but I've clearly hit a nerve. what's going on nobody mentioned you were sick. in that case stay clear of me I've got a shoot in 3 days. I do not have time to get sick"
"cheers nat. Thanks for looking after me."
"geez with the mood swings. you weren't wanting me to babysit you a few moments ago now you want me to look after you. What's wrong with you anyway"
"well, I've got sore boobs, metallic taste in my mouth all the time, I'm throwing up all the time I'm also tired all the fucking time. I just want this bug to pass so I can go back to happy healthy Y/n"
"Y/n babe when did you last have your period. 2 months ago why???" it took me a moment to realise it. and soon I gasped. "OMG! no I cant be this has come at the worst time I cant be. I'm on the pill and we used a condom"
"not always effective babe."
"okay okay. lets not rush into anything. Can you go pick up a pregnancy test."
"no need. I've got one in my bag for emergencies"
"err... I'm not gonna question that right now, we'll circle back to that one later. but okay I'll go take that right now. you stay here."
⋆。°✩
After waiting what felt like an age but in reality only three minutes I flipped the test over.
POSITIVE 3+ WEEKS
"fucking great. just at the worst time." I whispered to myself.
"Y/n is everything okay in there."
"yeah. I need to be on my own. I'm sorry"
"don't even mention it babe. I'll see myself out now. Want me to lock the door"
"nah leave it open. shut it obviously but don't lock it"
⋆。°✩
I knew I needed to tell Alex. tell him I was sorry before he left and about the baby that was growing inside me at the minute.
The phone rang once twice three times before he finally picked up.
"Y/n babe is everything okay."
"I need you. so bad" I cried down the phone to him
"I'm coming right now sweetheart. do you need anything?" he asked.
"Just a hug"
"okay okay. I'm on my way. Be five minutes top darling"
⋆。°✩
and he really wasn't lying when he said he'd be no longer than 5 minutes because I heard the door go no longer than 3 minutes after I ended the phone call.
"Y/n darling?" he called
"upstairs Alex" I said my voice wavering.
he burst the bathroom door open. and I started sobbing jumping into his arms wrapping my arms round his torso. the both of us swaying from the impact a bit. but we soon stopped and Alex's arms soon wrapped round meeting at my waist. Alex walks the two of us to our shared bedroom sitting us down on the bed.
"woah darling what's this what's got you in such a tizzy?" he asks.
"I'm sorry." I mumble into his shoulder.
"sorry for what sweetheart?"
"sorry for shouting at you. sorry for accusing you for babying us. sorry for the news I'm about to put on you."
"There's no need to apologise for that darling you did nothing wrong." It takes him a moment for him to realise my last statement from my previous statement.
"Y/n what news what are you going on about? You are really freaking me out honey."
"Stay here" I pull myself out of his arms, and walk to the bathroom where the pregnancy test lay on top of the toilet.
"This is the news." I say walking back into the bedroom sitting on the bed next to him and pass him the pregnancy test that lay in my hand.
"You mean- You mean we're going to be parents?"
"Not if you don't want to be."
"Not if I dont? Darling of course I want to be a parent. Do you want to be?"
"of course I do its just-"
"it's just what?"
"Its just. Is now even the right time to become preganant especially when you leave for tour tomorrow. What about in 9 months time? What about when I become too fat to walk anywhere."
"That won't happen sweetheart. because you aren't gonna become fat. You'll have a baby in your tummy. Our baby. And as for the tour. You'll come with me, we can sort out something. we're doing the asia america and australia first and then in 4 months we'll be in the UK and your joining me for every single leg sweetheart the tour wont effect your pregnancy, we'll be home before babys here and there'll still be time for nesting getting baby ready and everything else."
"okay. thank you Alex. for calming my worries. We're going to be parents." I say pulling him into a hug.
"Damn right we are."
⋆。°✩
9 months later.
Whimsy Bit #6-Venting Session
Nothing much happened on this day. Emily mainly sat around the house. Night approached, and she had the place to herself for a bit, so she took advantage of the time to take a warm bath. Still wrapped in a towel, she sat downstairs to read one of her favorite books.
Just as she finished a quick chapter and was headed back to her bedroom, she was startled by Brant, who had just returned from hanging out with some gym friends at Club Calico. Brant's stay was steadily coming to a close tomorrow, and as much as Emily enjoyed his company, this little moment made her miss her privacy. I mean...it's a good thing she hadn't walked downstairs in the nude.
Emily could tell Brant had been drinking; the smell was on his breath, and his cheeks blushed. He felt the need to apologize for Supriya's accusations...again...and thanked her for helping him with his dilemma for the umpteenth time...then he mumbled some other gibberish that she couldn't make out.
Suddenly, he eagerly wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace. She was slightly embarrassed about being in a towel before him but still reciprocated his bear hug.
Emily attempted to usher him upstairs to go to bed, but Brant's demeanor suggested that he needed a sit-down talk. So, Emily went upstairs to change into some clothes (that I'll be updating soon because girly has been sporting these same clothes for a while now) and returned downstairs. She saw him sitting pitifully on the couch, his face overcome with tears.
Emily: "Brant...what's up? You were so happy just a few minutes ago..." Brant: *sighs* "Em, I know I'm making the right decision, but I'm just so worried about how big the change will be in our relationship." Emily: "What do you mean? Are you having second thoughts?"
Brant: "What if...what if he meets someone else?" Emily: "Now why do you think he would do that?" Brant: "I don't know. He will be in another region of the world without me...around sophisticated and artsy sims in Windenburg. It's right up Brent's alley." Emily: "Yeah...but it's only temporary, remember? Once the business trip is over, he'll be right back home with you and Rosie!"
Emily: "Besides, distance makes the heart grow fonder...right?"
Brant, a strong and loveable figure, now looked like a wounded puppy. Just days ago, he was adapting to fully supporting Brent's upcoming travels with his renowned art group, Painterly Spirits. But the alcohol had a way of amplifying the reality of Brent's three-month business trip to Windenburg and Britechester, making it even more challenging to accept. The two were inseparable, except when they were working.
-I take it that Brant chose to stay with Emily to get a feel of how things would be without Brent. Could he adjust? It was doable at first, but he started to get anxious and miss him as time approached.
Brant: "Em, how can I just send my husband off for THAT LONG and pretend I'm fine?! I-I might as well wrap his cute a$$ into an aesthetically pleasing gift wrapping with sparkles and hand him over to the next hunky artist he's bound to see over there!"
Emily: "My goodness, Brant! Why would you think Brent could be so easily swayed by another?" Brant: "I don't know! I'm just thinking out loud..and irrationally..." *hic*
Emily was taken aback by Brant's insecurity about Brent's faithfulness. She hadn't had the opportunity to hang with Brent herself, but she'd seen the pair together before, just in passing, and they were always very loving to each other. He mustn't have always felt this way.
But seriously, in the end, she blamed it on the alcohol making him this delusional. How much did he have to drink tonight? Geez.
Emily: "How about this. Let's get your mind off freaking out about Brent finding new overseas peen. I think we should go to the nearby plaza to do some shopping. We can get some new clothes and do whatever you want to ease your mind? How does that sound?" Brant: "Yea...YEA! Sounds fun! Let's do it."
Brant: "Now that I'm thinking about it, let's go to that barber shop there too! I haven't done anything different with my hair in so long! You know, the puffy pompadour swoop has become my signature. Maybe I should switch it up?" Emily: "Hmmm...your pompadour does look good on you, but if you want to, let's see if you can find something else to frame that handsome face of yours."
The pair separated and headed upstairs to their beds.
Feeling pleased with letting out his frustrations in his drunken state, Brant yawned loudly and collapsed into bed. Hopefully, he can sleep off the hangover.
Finally, Emily was able to go to bed herself. Quickly pulling the covers over her, she sunk into the comforts of her mattress and cold pillow. Tomorrow would be a fun day, and she wanted to make sure Brant returned home to his love with new confidence in not just himself but also in the resilience of their marriage.
-Good night yall... or morning...whatever time it is for you when you read this 😄
Rudy's Trick (Louise's Treat)
Happy Halloween! Here is my fic for the @roudiseshipweek Halloween warm up prompt cult classic/picking out costumes. I mixed the two together, and hope you enjoy:
AO3
“Come on, Rudy, the popcorns going to get cold, and I’ve listened to the Halloween theme at least five times already,” Louise called.
She had popped the bag of kernels, drizzled a liberal dose of butter and nacho cheese seasoning over the final product, and set up the DVD minutes ago. All the while Rudy was, as he has told her before disappearing down the hall, putting the ‘final touches’ on his costume for tomorrow’s party.
He had not told her what it was, even after she had pestered him all week. Not even after Louise had promised to tell him her what her, Tina, and Gene were dressing up as before they showed up to Zeke’s Halloween party. And so, Louise resorted to guessing. Each time Rudy just smiled and even if she guessed correctly, he wouldn’t tell.
“If you don’t hurry up, I’m playing the movie without you.”
“Okay, okay,” Rudy said, suddenly behind her and making her jump, “careful, you almost dropped the popcorn.”
Dramatically clutching her chest to hide just how much he had scared her in the growing dark of the evening, Louise twisted around to look up her boyfriend.
Rudy hadn’t been regular-sized since grade nine, which happened to be when Louise had stopped growing. She was the shortest Belcher, which she could live with if she weren’t also the shortest in her friend group.
“Geez, Rudy, way to sneak up on a girl. Is your costume Michael Myers or something?”
Laughing, Rudy shook his head as he sat on the couch next to her.
“I’ve never seen Halloween, or any other slashers, you know that.”
She did. Which is why they were correcting that now. Movie nights had been a staple long before they had started dating halfway through grade twelve. This being their first Halloween as a couple, Louise was determined to start Rudy’s education on classic horror movies.
“And honestly, that’s a shame.”
Neither mentioned how that was technically untrue, as Rudy had been one of the kids traumatized by a certain deli zombie flick back in fourth grade. It was something they didn’t talk about.
Hitting play. Louise settled into the couch. The bowl of popcorn was emptied before Laurie spies Michael Myers watching her from behind drying sheets, leaving an empty space between them. Louise looked at it from the corner of her eye.
“You know,” she started, “if you get scared, I’ll protect you.”
Rudy glanced up from the screen and flashed her a smile, and only said:
“I’ll remember that.
And didn’t move an inch.
Louise turned back to the movie. Watching as Annie got strangled in the garage. She wasn’t scared, she’d seen plenty of scarier movies, but Rudy seemed far away in the dark.
Without making a sound, she moved a hair closer. She kept doing this, shifting just enough to not be noticed. Her plan at getting closer without him nothing was working. Until:
“Oh man.”
Rudy had been silent most of the movie, but Laurie stabbing Michael with knitting needles got a reaction. Which would have been fine, funny even as his uneven reaction to someone being stabbed in the eye, except for Lousie’s position. She had managed to get so close that his mumble sounded much louder in her ear.
Jumping across the couch, Louise felt her face flush. Twice. That was twice tonight that she had been startled by Rudy. A guy so unscary that birds didn’t even fly away when he approached.
Laughing, Rudy turned a lamp on.
The rest of the movie passed with Louise and Rudy on the opposite sides of the couch. Occasionally, Rudy would look at her and giggle. She would respond by scowling with her tongue out in mock indignation.
When the credits finally rolled and the eerie Halloween theme filled the silence, Louise was left to think of what to say next. She was just about to suggest another scary movie when Rudy beat her to the punch.
“My mom won’t be home for another few hours. If you’re interested, we can watch Hocus Pocus next?”
“That’s not even scary,” Louise argued.
“But it’s a Halloween cult classic,” Rudy said, “and we can cuddle, I was missing it a little during the last movie.”
Louise smiled, then quickly turned it into a smirk. Even though they had been dating for almost a year now, and had been friends for much longer, she refused to acknowledge how soft she had gotten when it came to Rudy.
“Well, in that case, sure. Why not? I’ve never actually seen it anyway.”
Rudy clutched his chest dramatically, “you’ve been trying to educate me, when it seems it’s you who’s been deprived of true Halloween must-watches.”
Rolling her eyes, Louise scooted towards him on the couch.
“If you count baby movies as a must-watch, then sure, educate me.”
He assured her it was not a baby movie as he changed the discs. Settling back onto the couch, Rudy didn’t even give her a chance to move before he pulled her into his arms. Louise felt the warmth of his chest against her back and relaxed without a fight. She only squirmed a little, and that was more to settle herself better than defiance.
“Much better,” Rudy said, his voice a low vibration along her spine.
This time, the movie was watched with more of their usual chattering. Quips about the Sanderson Sister’s thinking a sprinkler system was going to kill them and how cool an immortal talking cat would be passed between them with ease.
The next day, she, Tina, and Gene showed up in their costumes, a medley of Studio Ghibli characters, to Zeke’s a little early. They had brought sliders their dad had made, and Tina had roped them into setting up. Louise had only agreed because she liked Zeke, and it seemed like a good idea to be nice to her future brother-in-law.
Zeke, dressed as Ashitaka to match Tina’s Mononoke, had promised her the ability to setup a haunted hallway equipped with all of the affects he and his cousins had put together.
She also got two full sized candy bars of their choice for the help. Which Louise wouldn’t say no to, especially when her Chihiro costume had so many pockets. Who knew working in a hot spring for spirits would have better pocket options than most regular clothes?
Gene, dressed as Howl, had been promised full control over the music. Something he was taking seriously, with a small DJ station that consisted of a laptop and speakers’ setup in a corner.
Alex and Courtney arrived soon after them. Courtney insisted on adding some songs to Gene’s playlist, which devolved into the old argument of her music major versus his natural talents and composition schooling.
“But you guys always come up with something great together, why not work together?”
Alex’s appeal was just another part in the typical argument that formed the trio’s friendship.
Louise only laughed as she passed them on her way to get Zeke’s approval on her hallway setup, only to groan when she turned the corner. Wrapped in Tina’s embrace, Zeke looked a little busy. Which meant that, with only ten minutes until more guests were supposed to arrive, that her handywork would have to do.
It also meant that she would be able to finally see Rudy’s costume.
Except he didn’t show up. At least, not in the first few minutes like he normally did for parties. Not ten minutes late, which he would smile and say made him fashionable late. Jimmy Jr., Andy and Ollie, Kaylee, Susmita, Henry, Arnold, and the rest of the usual suspects filed through the door, but no sign of Rudy.
After twenty minutes, she found Millie and Jessica, dressed as Norman Bates and Mothman, in the corner chatting about horror movies, and joined them.
“Hey, if you wanna take a look at this, we got an illusionary visionary in the house tonight, the Amazing Rudy, and he’s kind enough to perform a trick as a treat!”
Zeke’s voice cut though the sound of conversation and music, catching Louise’s attention at the mention of her boyfriend.
“Tonight, I have one trick, a costume change from man to beast!”
Rudy’s voice had his customary magicians’ cadence, and Louise found herself smiling as she made her way towards the front of the crowd to see. It was almost like he was waiting for her to be in sight before he continued, but Louise knew that timing was a big part of an act, and it wasn’t for her benefit.
But her smile grew even more when she finally caught a glimpse of him. He looked a little silly in the green-black wig, but Rudy’s Haku costume was good. She wondered which of her siblings had told him about their costumes, since she hadn’t revealed it.
“I stand before you as a simple boy, but what you don’t know is,” Rudy raised his arms in a flourish, “my true identity is that of a river spirit!”
Shocked silence, followed by applause and cheers filled the room as Rudy dropped his arms and his costume suddenly changed into a green and white dragon, complete with a detailed mask and horns over his head.
Louise’s jaw dropped. She’d helped with some of his tricks over the years, but this was the best one yet.
“Wow, that was so cool…”
“How’d you do that?”
“…think I saw something like that on YouTube, do you follow…?”
Louise waited until the cluster of people who had swarmed around Rudy dissipated before she approached.
“Some trick, Rudes,” she said, catching his attention.
“Thanks, I made it all myself. I even got to build this cool dragon head hat to go in my collection.”
“Yeah, it is cool,” Louise agreed, “so how did you come up with the idea for your costume?”
Rudy flushed, rubbing his arm, and looking away. He stuttered out the start of an answer, but Louise just punched his arm with a laugh.
“Easy, Rudes, it’s fine. I know I said no couples’ costumes, but this makes me reconsider that. Especially when you can do cool transformations.”
After that, Jimmy Jr. pulled the attention to the dance floor with a dance-off that Gene’s sound effects only made better.
“Hey, you want climb on my back, and I can carry you like in the movie across the dance floor?” Rudy asked, after they watched the Pesto twins spin around.
“Hell yeah!”
Louise launched herself on Rudy’s back and cackled as he took off across the room. They burst into laughter after making their second crossing, Louise sliding off his back to lean against him.
The rest of the night was spent eating treats, dancing with their friends, and watching people get their pants scared off by Louise’s haunted hallway. In all, she would count it as one of the best Halloween party’s she’d gone too.
Later that night, after her shower, Louise returned to her room and saw that a photo was laying on her pillow and remembered someone had brought a polaroid camera. Picking it up, Louise smiled as she saw what it was: her, eyes closed, laughing, as Rudy carried her around on his back.
~Over~
A/N: :)
Tagging: @ta-ni-ya
TWs ⚠️: blood, character death, kinda gore-y??? Proceed with caution (lookin at you, hun. You know who you are.)
It’s been hours.
Hours of fighting, hours of loosing.
Who knew fighting an uppermoon would be this difficult.
Geez, Zeno knew they were strong, but holy crap this was most difficult thing he has ever done in his life. He didn’t even know what rank she was. He could be fighting the weakest uppermoon right now.
Oh how he felt ridiculously weak.
He was already badly injured and he had only been fighting her for maybe twenty minutes.
He had encountered this particular uppermoon a few days ago when on a mission. And he had to fight her in his mind for over a day.
And during that time, she had used his body against his will to do this he would never forgive himself for.
He had finally broken out of her grasp and had begun to fight her.
But of course he was failing. He always failed.
It hurt.
It hurt really bad.
He didn’t know how much he was bleeding. It felt like every breath he took was crushing his lungs. He cursed his low stamina under his breath before rushing forward again with a breathing technique.
The demon smirked at him as she easily evaded his attack. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath and glared at her.
“Hmm. Not bad. But you’re awfully slow.”
An awful noise rang through the air, like a sword being shattered, and an unbearable pain shot through Zeno’s neck.
He chocked on air as his sword dropped from his grasp. His hands instantly flung to his neck and he cringed at the wet feeling of blood. His nostrils were filled with the metallic-y scent and he wanted to puke from both the searing pain and the odor.
He squeezed his eyes shut as breathing became a taxing task. He could barely register the cackling laugh of the demon over the ringing in his ears.
He was dying, he was aware of that. The way his head felt so dizzy, and the way his vision was fading made him so painfully aware.
Breathing soon became a luxury for him as he gasped for even the smallest breath. His vision began to turn black as he dropped to his knees and as his body failed him for the last time…
“AANNNNDDD CUT!”
The loud slap of the director’s hands filled the air and Zeno quickly opened his eyes and stood up. He removed his hands off his neck and made a grossed out face at the sticky fake blood covered them.
“Great job you two, that was a perfect shot.”
The actress playing the uppermoon nodded with a small smile, completely opposite of how her character would act. She turned to him and gave Zeno a thumbs up.
“Good job! You looked pretty cool!”
“Thanks! Ima go clean up then get my makeup taken off, today was a pretty long day of shooting.”
Aneko nodded and walked off as Zeno made his way to his trailer. He took a quick shower after washing the fake blood off his hands before flopping on his bed, happy that he wouldn’t have to do it all over tomorrow.
You don't know how you got into this situation.
Your heart was beating a mile a minute, your face heated from either the alcohol or the embarrassment, and, this is the most important part, you were beneath the so-called "guy from Physics" that you'd been silently crushing on the entire semester. His own face had been flushed red from the amount of beer he'd apparently chugged down before getting here, but somehow he kept eye contact with you, and whenever you'd turn away, you'd later look back to see that he hadn't moved at all. The pillow beneath your head was soft, and while your head sank in the edges rose up and pushed your hair against your face, if you looked to either side of you, you'd see Soobin's hands gripping onto the sheets like there was no tomorrow. Somehow, the large sweater you'd pulled on was much warmer than before.
"(Y/N)," it was like he was testing your name on his lips. "I..." He seems to hesitate, and you swallow harshly. He was so close to you, lips just inches away from yours. One move from either of you and, surely, there goes your first kiss. But, you don't think you'd mind if it was with him. His brows scrunched together and he looked away from you for a moment. You looked up instead, staring up at the ceiling and trying to work everything out in your head.
~
Two months ago.
"Geez, (Y/N), at this rate he's going to think you're his stalker, or something," Yeonjun grimaces.
"Don't say that, please," your head rested against the cold café tables, your head turned towards the window watching the foot traffic down University Avenue. "I'm worried it might be true," you silently cried. You sat up, cradling your drink close to you. "Yeonjun, let me explain to you the whole thing, okay?"
"I'm all ears, tell me about this boy you've been stalking," he grins.
"I'm not stalking him!" You argued.
"Okay, okay!" He raises his hands up.
"Anyway, we have the same physics class, is all. Lecture and discussion," you explained. "And there have been a few times we've accidentally made eye contact, but we usually look away as soon as it happens," you add on. "And maybe we've run into each other outside of physics here and there... and also made eye contact there, gosh, he's everywhere! I've run into him in the library, the food court, the parking lot, and maybe," you stop talking when someone enters the café, "oh god that's him," you duck your head, staring at your drink. Yeonjun cranes his neck to look behind him. "Way to be subtle, Jun!" You scold him.
"Ooh, he's cute, (Y/N)," Yeonjun teases. "No wonder you're constantly looking for him," he continues.
"Oh quit it," you pressed your lips together. You sat up again and, your worst fear. Instead of looking right at Yeonjun, as you'd planned to do, instead you turned your head and, like a fucking idiot, made eye contact with the boy from physics once again.
Except, this time, he rose his hand up, offering a small wave and a smile. You weren't expecting him to actually acknowledge you this time, and you had to admit that there was something awkwardly charming about him. You don't think you've ever felt this way. You could feel your heart thrum in your chest, the song that played on the café speakers, Lover to be specific, seemed to be louder, and you prayed that no one could tell how hot your face had gotten. It was like you were frozen in time, you really wanted to make this next move count, what if he felt the same way about you? A complete stranger from physics class? You ended up just smiling and waving back too. Then, Yeonjun gagged, breaking the fantasy.
"Oh my god, just go talk to him!" Yeonjun nudges his head toward the stranger.
"No way! Are you kidding me!" You groaned. "God, I was just about to order another drink too."
"Just use the app."
"You are so smart," you snapped your fingers and did just as he said. A quick glance to the counter and you noticed that the guy from physics had disappeared.
"Lucky, you are, having someone like that in your classes," Yeonjun pouts. "Maybe if I had classmates that good looking I'd actually go to lecture."
"And maybe then you wouldn't be flunking literature," you teased. You looked over to the handsome stranger again, who was now leaning against the counter and waiting for his drink. "God, it's been this way all semester but... I think that's the first time we actually acknowledged each other," you mumbled. You heard a camera shutter and you whipped your head toward Yeonjun, who was pointing his phone toward you. He turns it over and slides it to you.
"You should see the way you look right now," he chuckles. The best way to describe the way you looked was a lovestruck fool, but not the romantic kind, the sort of playground 6-year-old kind.
"Ugh," you hide your face in your hands. "He's never going to talk to me. And I'm never going to talk to him, yup, nope, this is how this will end up," you waved your hands in front of you.
"Mobile Order for (Y/N)! Order for Soobin!" The barista calls out.
"I'll be right back," you trudged out of your seat. You reached for your drink, and your hand collided with someone else's. "Oh, sorry about..." you look up, "that..." your jaw hung slightly open and the person next to you was the same.
"Uh..." he gulps and turns away first. "Which one is the macchiato?" He asks the barista. The two cups looked identical next to each other, and, for whatever reason, neither of them had names written on them.
"They're both macchiatos," she answers.
"Which one only has two pumps of caramel?" You ask next.
"They both do."
"Which one-"
"They're the same, you both ordered the same thing so we made it at the same time, just grab whichever one you want," the barista cuts in.
"Oh, well, in that case," you take one of the cups. "Sorry about that again," you apologized.
"No worries, I'm just surprised someone had the same coffee order as me," he says.
"Caramel macchiato, hot, with two pumps of vanilla, an extra shot of espresso, low sugar, and cinnamon on top," you both recite. You shut your mouth and he smiles.
"Well, it's nice to officially meet you then, (Y/N), right?" He tilts his head.
"Yeah... and you're..." Crap, did you already forget? "Soobin, yeah?" Please be correct.
"That's me," he smiles even wider this time. "Hey, we seem to run into each other a lot, huh?" He asks.
"We do! We have the same physics class," you answer.
"Professor Ahn is too harsh with his grades," Soobin shakes his head. "How'd you feel about the midterm?"
"I'd rather not think about it, the only thing I remember from it is that none of the right-hand-rule was on it," your shoulders slumped and he chuckles.
"Well, if it helps, I'm not too bad at physics, we should study together sometime," he offers.
"I'd like that a lot, actually," your eyes lit up. Your grade would certainly thank you. You weren't horrible at physics, but you could benefit from some extra studying.
"That's great, then we should-"
"(Y/N)! What's taking so long? We have a project to finish!" Yeonjun calls, you look behind Soobin, who follows your gaze and Yeonjun gasps softly.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to keep you from your boyfriend," Soobin rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Oh, we're not dating, Yeonjun's just a classmate of mine in genetics," you explained. "But, he's right, we have a project due at five, so I'll be seeing you around," you smile.
"See you," Soobin waves goodbye and walks off. You, meanwhile, slide back into the booth.
"Look at you go, just five minutes ago you said you'd never speak to him."
"Yeah, I think we're going to study together from now on too," you rest your head against your palm. Then, your eyes widened with realization. "Oh shit," you groaned.
"What? What's wrong?"
"I didn't get his number!"
"Are you joking?!"
"You're the one who interrupted!"
"Oh, did I? Sorry," Yeonjun chuckles.
"Ugh..."
"Well, since you two constantly run into each other, just get his number then."
"It's not that easy, Jun! There was a flow there, everything was just making sense, you know? How am I supposed to even ask for his number? Huh?"
"Hey, I didn't catch your number last time, can we exchange it now?" He responds with a straight expression.
"It's not that easy!"
"I just said it!"
"You are insufferable," you sighed.
"Give me a minute," Yeonjun looks at his phone, rapidly tapping away on his screen. "Found him," he hands you his phone and, sure enough, it was open to Soobin's Instagram.
"How did you find him so fast," you scrolled through it. Not many pictures of him, surprisingly, more of scenery and other people.
"Never underestimate the skills of a technophile," he shrugs. "Shoot him a message, tell him you have mutuals or something if he asks," Yeonjun returns his focus back to his laptop screen. You, meanwhile, pull your phone out and follow the account.
It was a simple message, you think, a quick 'hey! i didn't get your number, but looks like we had mutuals! i hope you don't mind the sudden message' on your part. Then, a few minutes later, a response from him.
'I don't mind at all! How's your schedule? I'm free Tuesdays and Thursdays.'
Tuesdays and Thursdays? That's perfect! You shot a text back and set the stage for the remainder of the semester.
~
But nothing could have prepared you for that first Tuesday.
Only a week after you'd both finally been properly acquainted, you were sitting in one of the smaller study rooms in the library. Your headphones hung around your neck, your pen had been tucked behind your ear, and the laptop screen in front of you shone brightly. You'd been going back and forth with the assignment in front of you for the past ten minutes, having tried every single equation you could find in your notes and converting between units, the whole thing nearly drove you to insanity.
Until you finally heard the door open.
You looked up and Soobin walked in, shaking the rain from his hair and panting quietly.
"Sorry, I'm late! It started raining out of nowhere," he says quickly, dropping a plastic bag on one of the chairs and his backpack on top of it. "Spring showers," he sighs. "I didn't keep you waiting long, right?" He asks. You didn't answer for a short while, your eyes drifting to every part of the room except to him. Rainwater dripped from his hair to his neck, the droplets being taunting enough already, how could someone look this handsome after being rained on? If you were unlucky enough to have forgotten your umbrella, you were sure that even a drunken sailor wouldn't be able to see you as a beautiful mermaid, rather a sea witch. The rain had long drenched his shirt, the material clinging tightly onto his torso and all that combined with that worried look on his face?
Yeonjun would've laughed out loud by now.
"It's, it's alright," you waved your hand in front of you, staring at your laptop screen instead. "I know it's not a lot, but I have some tissues if you want to use them?" Your hands were already in your backpack, ready to pull out the small pack.
"I'd appreciate that a lot, actually!" He smiles.
Oh, heart, are you still there? You handed him the small pack and he wipes the larger drops of water from his face.
"Working on the homework?" He asks. Well, to be honest, you would say that the homework was working on you because you couldn't for the life of you understand why the torque equation wasn't working on the torque problem.
"Yeah, I've been stuck on this ches... tion... I've been stuck on this question," you corrected yourself, hoping he didn't catch your mistake. He didn't seem to, being more focused on drying off his arms than anything else.
Pull yourself together why are you being weird?!
You turned your screen around, opting to stare at the back of your laptop. Soobin reaches over toward you and you stop breathing. Then you watch your scratch paper slide over towards him and he looks over your work. His cheeks were tinted pink and his lips pressed together while he tried to follow your thought process. With eyes chasing down the messy pencil scribbles, you could feel your face heating up again.
"I'm going to go grab some water downstairs, do you want some?" You ask suddenly. He looks over to you, eyes slightly larger and cheeks slightly pinker. "You know... I think I'll grab you some tea, you're a bit red."
"Oh, am I?" His hand moves up to his cheek, pushing up his glasses slightly from the movement, and his other hand to his phone to look at himself on the screen's reflection.
"Yes, I'll be right back," you slipped out of the room, holding your face in your hands. What was that? What happened? You rushed over to the vending machines downstairs, buying a water bottle and chugging half of it before turning to the coffee machine. You ran the hot water and crossed your arms.
"Gosh, what's he thinking running in there looking like that?" You whispered, bouncing your forehead lightly on the coffee machine. "Pull yourself together, (Y/N), you literally just met him and you're acting like this," you groaned. The machine sounded a quiet ding, signaling that it was complete, and you drop the tea infuser inside of it, placing a lid on top as you returned to the study room. "Soobin?" When you said his name he turned to look up at you and, again, his cheeks tinted pink. A small smile formed on his lips and you felt an arrow pierce your heart. "Here, have some of this," you placed the small cup in front of him, trying to shake off the feeling as fast as you could.
"Thank you so much, you didn't have to," he holds the cup in one of his hands and reaches into his bag with the other. As you took your seat, he pulled out his wallet.
"Oh, no! No, it's fine!" You told him.
"Are you sure?" There he goes again, the way his eyebrows were furrowed together with his lips in a skeptical pout, it took everything in you to hold it together.
"I'm sure, don't worry about it, anyone would have done the same," you muttered, taking your seat parallel to him instead.
"Is that so?" He turns back to his laptop, popping the lid off of the cup with one hand.
That was kind of hot. Your eyes slowly moved from that action back to the assignment in front of you.
"I think I found out your problem, by the way," Soobin sips some of the tea and slides your work back to you. On the side in the margins are annotations in blue ink. His handwriting was noticeably nicer compared to yours, or at the very least within the lines of the graph paper. "Try using this equation instead, you can derive it with other Pythagorean identites to use tangent instead of sine." He explains this as he taps the equation with the tip of his pen. You skimmed the other notes he had on the page, namely the work leading up to the new equation.
"Oh! I get what you're saying," you nodded and rewrote the equation with your given terms. Talk about physics whiz, did he really need help studying too? "If you need any help with anything too, let me know so we can work it out together," you said.
"Actually, if I'm being honest, can we talk a little about thermodynamics? It's probably the one thing I can't understand right now."
"Yeah! Let's go over it! I'm not the best at it either, so maybe two heads are better than one!" You flipped to the appropriate chapter and, soon, it was like you'd both been talking since the first day of class. The conversation flew so easily that you didn't think much of it and you weren't as distracted as before. Who knew that studying with a partner made one more productive? Before you knew it, your physics assignments had been long turned in and the whiteboard next to you was littered with several practice problems.
Then, you heard a knock at the door. It opened slowly and another student stuck their head in.
"Hello! I have the room reserved for seven," he explains. You and Soobin check the time and, sure enough, it was 7:05.
"Sorry about that! I didn't realize how long we've been in here!" You quickly packed your things and you were both out in an instant, walking past the next group of students.
"So, same time next week?" Soobin asks as soon as you were out of the library. You turned to him.
"Sorry?" You didn't quite catch that.
"I mean, I'm free if you are, and I heard that electrodynamics is even harder than thermo so..." he trails off into a whistle.
"I should be available, yeah," you confirmed. "Same time next week, I'll see you then!"
"Get home safe! My apartment's over on that side," he points the opposite direction to you and you nodded, waving goodbye as he walked off.
Then came the next week, he was waiting in the same room and was already well set up, he had a wide smile on his face when you walked in. Then came the week after that, and that time you were the first to arrive. The week after that, you both met at a different room since someone beat you to your usual room. A week after that you both decided to try studying at a café and then subsequently decided to try studying at every café that was a reasonable distance from campus. Soon, your once-a-week study sessions became more frequent, partly because of your café endeavors, and another part being for finals. Needless to say, you and Soobin were basically making up for lost time spent wondering if the other should say 'hi' or not.
Then came that traumatizing time. Finals, forever the bane of your existence and the cause of your stress.
And in exactly one day you'd have to deal with the one you were dreading the most... physics.
"Come on, (Y/N)! I know you're on the verge of testing the gravitational laws yourself, but that's exactly why you need to come with me!" Somi exclaims.
"No way! You just want me to be your ride home, huh?" You pushed back on your rolled chair and crossed your arms.
"Not... not entirely true," she says quietly. "But you need to relax!" She groans and turns to your closet. She starts digging through the piles of clothes. "Geez, (Y/N), do you not have a single party outfit in here?" She covers her mouth in shock. "Hold on, I'll be back," she marches off and you sigh before turning back around to continue your review. The numbers started to mold together and shapes started to become nonsensical. Suddenly, two hands grabbed both of your shoulders, and you were wheeled off toward Somi's room across the hall with a loud yelp.
"Somi! I have to study!"
"That's nice, (Y/N)," she pushes you into her room and closes the door. "Clothes are on my bed! Yangyang! Bring over the tequila, we're pregaming," Somi announces.
"Huh?" Yangyang pulls his headphones off.
"Alcohol!" She repeats. Yangyang scrunches his eyebrows before pulling open the bottom desk drawer and pulling out the entire bottle.
"Why are we drinking?" Seungmin pokes his head into the hallway.
"We're all going to Yeonjun's party!" She announces.
"Who's we?!" Seungmin exclaims. "I have a twenty-page paper due tomorrow!"
"I'm playing ranked, hold on," Yangyang announces.
"Ugh, fuck, you're all clueless! Physics Guy is going to be there!" Somi shouts. Just as you'd finished putting on whatever Somi had laid out for you, you could've sworn you heard multiple things crash against the floor. You opened the door slowly and all three of your roommates stood in front of you.
"Yeonjun invited Soobin?! That asshole I knew he'd pull something like that!" You groaned.
"Yeah, yeah, now's your chance, (Y/N)," Somi insists.
"And I'm DDing," Seungmin says, handing you a shot glass. "Take it, you need it."
"No, it's fine-"
"Not to peer pressure you, (Y/N), but if I have to hear one more minute of you talking about Physics Guy I will lose my mind. Drink, confess, and, I don't know, get laid?" Yangyang exclaims.
"You're horrible," you shook your head but, after tapping your glass against Somi's, took the shot.
"That's how it's done! Let's go!" Somi laughs and runs behind the three of you, promptly pushing you out the door and, as you'd soon realize, straight to your demise.
As soon as the four of you had entered, you'd somehow each had a shot glass in hand. The party was already in full swing with Yeonjun nowhere to be seen and a sea of faces you'd never seen before. An attempt to put one glass down resulted in another appearing in your hand almost like magic. One shot became two, which became four, and you lost count at one point. The other two had run off somewhere, leaving you behind with Seungmin. Sure, you were definitely buzzed, but nowhere near drunk yet. But, now this was new, someone somehow blasted the AC in the whole house.
"Hey, pace yourself, (Y/N)," Seungmin slides a bottle of water towards you.
"I'm good, just getting a little dizzy," you muttered.
"Fuck, it's cold," Yangyang pushed past the both of you and disappeared into a room. But you had to agree with him, you were fucking freezing.
"Did Yangyang just walk into the stoner room?" You glanced around the room before grabbing the closest hoodie to you and pulling it on.
"Oh, hell, he's definitely out of it," Seungmin hid his face in his hands for a moment. He looks at you and his face grows even more concerned. "And where did you get that?"
"I just found it."
"You're all hopeless, okay, no more drinks for you, (Y/N). I'm going to go drag Yangyang out of there. Please don't do anything rash while I'm gone, okay?" And he was running after Yangyang before you could say anything else. You shoved your hands in the hoodie's pocket and fished out the phone inside of it. You tapped on the screen and the bright light nearly took you out. Whoever's phone this was, you had to admit you were jealous of their picture-taking skills, the sunset lock screen was pleasing to look at. Putting the phone away, you opted to wait patiently for Seungmin to return. The lights started to dance around you and whatever was on the playlist soon drowned under their own bass lines. The buzz you originally felt began to take it's toll on you, and you could feel your eyes growing heavier all the while your other senses started dulling. You couldn't hear your own thoughts so, slowly, you made your way toward what looked like a quieter hallway.
People pushed past you left and right. Couples rushed to rooms and the faint sound of someone throwing up had to have come from the bathroom next to you. Then, salvation. An open door beckoned you to enter, and so you did. You leaned back on the door to close it behind you and you let out a sigh of relief. The room was like a world separate from the party behind you.
You made your way to the chair over at the corner of the room, slumping down on it and holding your head between your hands. Then, you laughed to yourself. If you'd stayed back at the apartment today then you'd be in this exact position except sober. The door behind you opened suddenly and shut, but you couldn't be bothered to check yet.
"Hmm?" Someone hummed behind to you and curiosity got the better of you. You turned quickly, an action you immediately regretted when the walls started to bounce across your vision. But, even with the fuzz at the outlines of your sight, you could clearly see that it was Soobin who'd stumbled in. Talk about coincidence.
"Sorry, I didn't know someone claimed the room already," Soobin says. His hand tried to grasp at the door handle but, to no avail, he just slumped onto the ground instead. "Give me a couple of minutes and I'll leave, promise," his words slurred together.
"Soobin?" You stumbled his way to him, just barely pushing the chair of the desk back in and nearly tipping the whole thing over if anything. "Hey, the floor's cold, get up here," you offer a hand to him and he took it. You pulled Soobin up and, in a heavily miscalculated move, ended up falling on the bed while dragging him with you. "Oh! Sorry, I'm sorry!" You scrambled away from him, only stopping when your head collided with the headboard. "Ugh," you winced and your head fell against the pillow. You shut your eyes tightly while waiting for your head to stop spinning.
"Are you okay?" Soobin asks, his voice somewhat closer.
"Yeah, I'm..." You opened one eye and your breath caught in your throat. "Fine..." you couldn't breathe. Maybe it was the way the LED's lining the ceilings suddenly turned into a warm orange, maybe it was the way the heat increased between you, or maybe it was the way you'd just realized that the guy you'd been crushing on all semester was hovering just above you, but you could comfortably say that you felt some kind of excitement when you thought about what could happen next.
Leading you to now.
You looked down from the ceiling and he looked back at you. The look in his eyes was intense and his lips were pressed together. Then, suddenly, his glasses slipped off the bridge of his nose and landed against your face. And you smiled, and he smiled. A tired laugh came from him, and you couldn't help but laugh too. You pushed his glasses back on his face. Next thing you knew, he falls on you, nuzzling his face into your neck and wrapping his arms under your waist, pulling you off of the mattress slightly. His laughs were soft against you and your own head nuzzled against his.
"This is nice," you whispered.
"Hug-a-boo," he mumbles.
"What did you say?" It was a genuine question.
"I once read somewhere that hugs make everyone feel better," he says, his words muffled by the hoodie, but still understandable.
"I guess I feel a little better now," your head was still throbbing.
"That's good," he says. "Could I have my hoodie back? It's cold," he hugs you tighter.
"Oh, yeah, I didn't know it was yours," you sit up and Soobin sits in front of you. You grabbed the hem of the hoodie and, when you'd finally pulled it over your head, you and Soobin found yourselves deep into a drunk staring contest, one that you won. "I win!" You grinned.
"No fair, you're cheating," Soobin shakes his head while he hugs his hoodie to his chest.
"Cheating? How?"
"You're too... too..." his words trail off. "I'm too drunk to answer that," he waves his hands in front of you.
"No, no, not true. Now you have to tell me," you insisted.
"No, I can't, you'll laugh."
"I won't."
"You will."
"Try me," you gesture for him to continue. Still, he's silent. But you could see the gears turning in his head. Instead of answering, he leans down and hugs you again, his ear pressed against your chest and you were back on the pillow again.
"I can't say it when I look at you, I'll be too embarrassed, so I'll do this instead," he says. "I really really want to kiss you right now," he mumbles. Well that's one way to get you to start sobering up. "But, I can't do that," he shakes his head against you. "Because I won't remember it, and I want to remember it, every second of it," his words slow.
"Soobin." No answer. Instead, you heard his breathing start to even out. "Soobin?" Your hand moved up to his head and you pulled at the strands lightly. Soobin pulled away from you and you found yourself in the same position you'd found yourself in earlier.
You're drunk enough.
"Let's do it then," you nodded.
"But-"
"We're both drunk. We probably won't remember it tomorrow."
"I don't think-"
"We won't count it." Soobin is silent. Your hands reached up to hold his face and you lifted your head just enough to press your lips against his. That kiss was pretty one-sided actually. You pulled away just enough to look at the shocked look in his eyes. Or was it surprise? You couldn't tell. Before you could say anything more, Soobin pressed forward, pushing you back down on the bed, and kissed you. One hand moved up to the back of his neck and you pulled him closer toward you, meanwhile one of his hands caressed your face while the other supported him over you. He only stopped the kiss long enough for both of you to catch your breath before pulling his glasses off and kissing you again, this time a little messier than the last. You could still taste the alcohol on his lips as much as you could feel the warmth from his face against yours. You didn't know when you found the chance to take his shirt off but you realized how real this was getting when he pulled yours off between kisses.
Again, he pushed himself off of you, and the tension between you and him was nearly overbearing. Wordlessly, he pushed his hoodie against your chest. Then, he fell on the bedside next to you and pulled you into a hug. You felt your back press against his chest.
"Hug-a-boo!" He exclaims.
"Ah!" The sheer volume of it was enough to shock you. "Wait... oh I get it now! It's like peek-a-boo!"
"Mmhmm," he nods against your head. "Those don't count, okay?"
"Hm?"
"I told you already... I want to remember every part of our first," he yawns.
"Okay, me too," you agreed, yawning after that statement. You couldn't think of much else to say. Whatever you needed to explain was for the sober you of tomorrow to worry about. Instead, you turned around in Soobin's hold and wrapped your arms around his neck. "Hug-a-boo!" You smiled.
"Wah! You got me!" Soobin jumped slightly and he squeezed you too tightly for just a moment, causing you to laugh. You felt the low rumbles of his own laughter from his chest and you sighed, finally letting the tiredness catch up to you.
~
Bonus:
"So? What did you do when you woke up?" Yeonjun shakes the iced coffee in his hand.
"Well... we... uh..." you started drinking your caramel macchiato to avoid the question. Yeonjun rolled his eyes.
"Soobin?" He targets the boy next to you. Who whistles and looks out the window instead.
"Hopeless. Both of you. After all the work I put into getting you two together," Yeonjun obnoxiously drinks his coffee now.
"All you did was host a party," you shot back.
"All?!" Yeonjun was offended. "After risking my life prying a hoodie off of drunk Soobin, freezing my ass off blasting the AC, and leaving the party to control the mood lights, this is the thanks I get?" Yeonjun exclaims melodramatically.
"That was you?!" You and Soobin gasped.
"Of course it was!" Yeonjun exasperates. "Forget it, as long as you two are at least talking now." Yeonjun waves his hand and goes on his phone. Soobin squeezes your hand under the table, shooting you an unsure glance. You responded by squeezing his hand too, both yours and his smiles hidden by the lids of your coffees.
can you write a fic where mason gets really really sick and for some reason they can’t leave their house so chase gets really stressed and is so worried while mason is just out of it
This got way longer than I expected, but thank you so much for this, anon! I love these boys so much, they're such faves
“Geez,” Chase says, pausing the movie he and Mason are watching. He gets out from under the blanket they’re sharing and walks to the window to look out of it. The snow was coming down in a flurry, and Chase couldn’t help but stare at it in awe. “It’s snowing so hard, I love it.”
It’s Sunday, and he and Mason had both woken up absolutely exhausted, so they decided to just have a really slow, quiet day in, on the couch, watching movies and napping. Chase had perked right up with some caffeine. Mason, on the other hand…he was dragging with a weariness he felt in his bones. The kind of fatigue that was suspicious enough to have Mason wondering if maybe he was coming down with something.
He’s not sure where he would have picked it up, though. Chase hadn’t been sick, none of the friends or family he’s seen as of late had been sick, no one at work had been sick and neither had any of the guests he’s helped (that he recalls, at least). It’s a mystery - one that Mason doesn’t care all that much about solving. He’s too tired.
“Yeah,” Mason yawns, propping himself up on an elbow. “Snow is nice and all, but you know what else is? Cuddling. Come back to the couch, you’re warm, and I want you.”
Chase turns away from the window to look at Mason. “See, now I feel like you’re just using me for my body,” he teases.
“Hell yeah, I am. Get over here and be my own personal heater, I’m cold.”
“Do you want a nap?” Chase asks, joining Mason back on the couch. “You look exhausted.”
“I am,” Mason whines. “Can you die of sleepiness because I think I might die of sleepiness.”
“I mean if you don’t sleep for weeks, yeah, but that’s not the case here, so no.”
“Maybe I’ll be the first. Someone will write about my case in a medical journal. ‘Sleepiest man alive: dies.’”
“I mean you might make the news. Not sure about a medical journal,” he says. Mason flops over, resting his head in Chase’s lap.”You should try and nap.”
“I don’t want to nap.”
“Why not?”
“We’re watching a movie and you go back to work tomorrow. I want to spend time with you.”
“Babe, we can spend time together when you’ve woken up and you’re less exhausted.”
Mason makes a non-committal noise, curling up into a tighter ball and tugging the blankets up higher. Chase starts playing with his hair in that way that he does that’s almost guaranteed to lull Mason to sleep.
He’s quiet for a few moments, and Chase almost thinks maybe he’s fallen asleep, but then there’s a VERY sleepy, “I know what you’re doing.”
Chase laughs lightly, “oh do you?”
“....Uh-huh….s’not gonna work,” Mason mumbles. “M’not tired.”
“Mase, you just said you were going to die because you’re so tired. Do you not remember the medical journal headline you proposed?”
“That was then, this is now,” he yawns. “Was a different man back then.”
“TWO minutes ago?”
“Mmhmm.”
“You’re ridiculous and I love you for that, but go to sleep, honey. I’ll be here when you wake up”
*
When Mason wakes, he’s not quite sure where he is or what century he’s in. All he knows is that his head is pounding. He pushes himself into a sitting position, gasping in pain as the pounding intensifies. He holds his head in his hands, grimacing at just how bad it hurts.
“Mase?” Chase frowns from next to him, “you okay?”
“Headache,” Mason murmurs, squeezing his eyes shut. “God, that hurts.”
“Sorry, sweetheart…let me go grab you some meds, lay back down.”
Mason slumps back against the cushions, massaging his temples. Each throb feels like a jackhammer to his skull, and he’s not sure meds will really do much with how bad it is.
He’s worried he’s past the point of no return.
“Here,” Chase says, crouching down in front of Mason. He hands him a couple of pills and a glass of water, and then rests a hand on Mason’s knee.
“You’re the best,” Mason breathes. He swallows the pills with a wince as it feels like they scrape against his throat.
“What’s wrong?”
“My throat hurts,” He grimaces, “I might be dying.”
Chase makes a sad whining noise at him, “shit, Mase…how do you feel other than the headache and sore throat?”
“Just…really weird.”
He’s not sure how else to describe it. He just feels…weird. He can feel the fatigue into his bones and muscles, making every movement feel like way more work than it actually is. His throat feels raw, which is making him nauseous, which is upsetting. He was hoping that maybe he was wrong and the exhaustion he was feeling was nothing that a nap couldn’t fix, but now he’s sure he’s getting sick.
*
“D’you think you’ll have a snow day tomorrow?” Mason croaks, voice muffled by the blankets on their bed. He sniffles, breath catching as he coughs into a fist.
Mason had steadily felt worse as the day progressed, and now it’s around seven, and they’re both in bed. Chase is sitting up, propped against some pillows as he does some work on his laptop. A show is playing on their TV, volume low, and Mason is curled up next to him, drifting in and out of sleep. He’d probably actually be asleep if not for all of the coughing and sneezing and sniffling that’s keeping him awake.
“Yeah, I already got the text that it’s canceled,” he says, looking down at him.
A shiver runs down his spine and he groans, pressing himself closer to Chase. “Oh…good.”
“Probably would have called out anyways,” Chase frowns, reaching down to feel Mason’s forehead. He retracts his hand quickly, frown deepening as he closes his laptop and sets it on the mattress next to him. He feels Mason’s cheek. “Shit…you’re burning up, Mason.”
He’d felt kind of warm a little while ago, but now his skin burns underneath Chase’s hand. Mason nuzzles into Chase’s hand, eyes sliding shut as he sighs. Fever would explain why he feels as awful as he does, so he supposes he’s not all that surprised, just disappointed.
“I feel kind of shit,” Mason mumbles.
Chase purses his lips. “Yeah…not surprised. I’m going to go find the thermometer, need anything while I’m up?
“Could you make me more tea?” Mason croaks. “Throat’s killing me.”
“I’m on it.”
When Chase comes back into the room with tea, the thermometer, and NyQuil, Mason is sprawled out on his stomach, arm hanging over the edge of the bed and cheek pressed against the mattress as he coughs weakly. He feels so aggressively awful all of a sudden, and he’s not entirely sure how to handle it.
Chase gnaws on his bottom lip, worry tugging at the pit of his stomach as he tries to figure out what to do if Mason ends up needing the emergency room in the middle of the night. The roads are icy and slick, and Chase really doesn’t want to have to go anywhere unless absolutely necessary.
“Baby, can you sit up?” He asks gently, sitting the tea down on Mason’s nightstand.
“I’m really dizzy,” Mason croaks, squeezing his eyes shut.
Chase sticks the thermometer in his ear, pressing his other hand to the back of Mason’s neck. When it beeps in, Chase looks at the number and gasps lightly. 102.7.
“I am SO sorry, honey, but I need to take your blankets. We need to get that fever down.”
“Nooooo,” Mason whines.
“I know, I know,” Chase soothes, pulling back their thick comforter. “It sucks, and I’m sorry.”
He manages to get Mason to take the meds and goes into their bathroom to find a washcloth. It doesn’t take much rummaging through their linen cabinet before grabbing one. He pokes his head out of the bathroom to check on Mason, who’s still lying in the same position. Chase hates this, he hates when Mason is sick because he’s just not himself. He just wants to fix everything.
He runs the washcloth under cold water, and then wrings it out until no more water comes out. He’s trying to hurry, Mason’s temp being this high when medical care not being easily available is stressing Chase the hell out. And sure, even if it gets up to 103, he’s still not really in danger of his brain melting. But that doesn’t keep Chase from worrying.
“
Much to Chase’s relief, the NyQuil brings the fever down to 101.5. Still not great, but Mason didn’t pass out and is able to sleep, so Chase is taking that as a win.
When he wakes up the next morning, Mason is still fast asleep. He’s snoring softly, which he only ever does when he’s congested. Chase resists the urge to feel for a fever - he’s looking remarkably less flushed than yesterday when his fever was so high, so he’s guessing whatever his fever is at is probably a more manageable level.
He decides to put all of his nervous energy into cleaning downstairs and cooking Mason some food that might sound good when he wakes up. He’s really not much of a cook, that’s more Mason’s forte, but he has perfected a few comfort recipes that Mason loves over the years.
He’s about three hours into cleaning and cooking when he hears their bedroom door open and close. Chase stops what he’s doing and turns around just in time to see Mason appear in the doorway.
He looks really disoriented and like he’s not with it at all. His hair is sticking up in every direction, and he blinks really heavily as he sways on his feet.
“Good morning,” Chase says, crossing the room to get to Mason’s side. “How are you feeling? Any better?”
“Umb,” he croaks, wincing at just how bad his throat hurts. “Ndo. Worse, I thiggk.”
Everything just feels awful. His head is pounding, and every step that he took from the bedroom to where Chase is just reverberated in his skull.
His throat hurts so bad, he’s not sure he wants to speak until it’s feeling better. It’s raw, and each swallow feels like someone’s shoving a hot poker down his throat.
His sinuses are throbbing, and he keeps feeling an itch winding through them, but so far, rubbing his nose seems to do the trick and he’s able to ward off whatever impending sneezes are coming. It does, however, seem to make him even stuffier than he already is.
He’s sore and achy, too. His muscles and joints hurt with every movement, and all he wants to do is go back to sleep.
“Think you can make it to the couch? I have some food for you, you really need to eat something with the meds.”
“What mbeds?” Mason mumbles, sniffling as Chase guides him to the couch.
“The ones I'm about to give you.”
“Oh…right.” He sniffles. “Heh…heh’gchxt! Hih’ixcht! Snff! Snff!”
“Bless you, sweetheart. I made some congee, do you want me to warm a bowl up for you before or after the meds?”
“After,” Mason sniffles.
“You got it. Want some tea, too? Your throat sounds like it really hurts.”
Mason nods, pulling the blanket that’s next to him over his lap. He sniffles as he settles into the couch, pulling his knees to his chest and curls into himself. His eyelids droop, but he opens them when he feels Chase’s hand on his forehead.
“Your ha’d is cold,” Mason grumbles.
“Sorry…I really wish it weren’t still snowing this hard. I’d really like to get you to a doctor soon.”
“I’mb finde. It’s just the flu or sombethi’gg.”
“We could have gotten you antivirals by now, though,” Chase frowns.
Mason shrugs. “It’s okay.”
Chase kisses the top of his head. “Alright. I’ll get you some meds and heat you up some food, and make some tea. Sound good?”
“Uh-huh.”
“How about you pick a movie? Anything you want.”
“I mbight fall asleep.”
Chase smiles at him softly, cupping his cheek. “That’s fine. You should if you can.”
Mason is way ahead of him. As hard as he tries to stay awake, he’s exhausted and he can feel himself slipping back into unconsciousness. It’s fine, he tells himself, Chase can just wake him back up when he returns.
And he does.
“I’m so tired,” Louisa sighed weakly. “You?”
“A bit,” I answered.
“You nailed it, girl. Really. Forget about what your mother said, I only heard positive stuff about the gala.”
We entered in the living room, and sat in front of the TV for five minutes.
“Plus,” she teased, “you even got yourself an admirer.”
“Who?”
“Emilien. You know, the guy with blond hair. I asked our friend Google, his last name is Beaufort and he plays in Italy.”
“We barely talked,” I retorted.
“Touché. But trust me, girl, he couldn’t stop looking at you for the whole night!”
“Good for him.”
“You’re harsh, he’s actually good looking. Or maybe you prefer Mbappe?”
“He’s very kind,” I admitted, putting my hair down and raising my shoulders.
“Griezmann, then?”
“What?”
I turned to her. Did she see us talking? Did she see him put his face closer to mine?
“Well, I saw you talking to him,” she reminded me. “Right after that, I was talking to Varane when Lloris arrived and asked where Griezmann was.”
“He’s very nice,” I answered innocently. “Like the others.”
“Oh yes, Lloris and Varane were very nice. Kante too, a real sweetheart.”
“Good, ‘cause Kylian invited us to the match tomorrow. And I said yes.”
She gave me a confused look. Oh God, don’t tell me she doesn’t want to go?”
“I thought you would accept, since…Crap, was it wrong of me?!”
I barely finished talking that she jumps towards me and shakes my arm.
“Yeeees!! I can’t wait, oh my God! Oh geez, we’re gonna need jerseys! Whose jersey will you choose?”
*-*
The morning after, some kind of messenger comes knock at our door to give us the tickets for the match, plus two bouquets of flowers and a pretty little blue cloth bag with two yellow bracelets inside. Louisa’s bouquet doesn’t have a note, but mine has, with a message from Kylian.
“Promises are made to be kept 😊
I hope you’ll have a good time at the Stadium.
Maybe we can grab a coffee some time?
See you tonight,
K.
PS: If you don’t mind coming in the locker-room after the match, the guys would like to meet you.”
“Ooooh,” Louisa said after reading the note behind my shoulder. “He’s so into you!”
“Stop it,” I said putting down the note. “He’s just being polite.”
Louisa and I both were free this morning and she thought of it at the opportunity to bring me to “urgent” shopping. Thank God, we quickly find a sport shop that sells the Bleus’ jerseys. Louisa, incapable of making a choice, takes a jersey that doesn’t have a name or number on it, and I’m about to do the same when I see Antoine’s jersey. Without hesitation, I take one and we go to the till. After one hour and a half of shopping, we finally head home. After lunch, I go to work and work on last night’s gala. I’m home at 6 pm, and Louisa is waiting for me excitedly. After studying, we have a quick diner, we prepare ourselves, put our jerseys on, and it’s already time to go. Louisa talks makes her prognostics for the whole ride, and her good mood is just contagious. We arrive at the stadium, where people are already coming in. We walk to our seats, and we see that we have a great view. People arrive around us, and we patiently wait for the game while talking joyfully – we you can call me repeating “I’m telling you he’s just being polite!” and Louisa, stubborn as hell, insisting “I’m telling you he’s into you!” a discussion. The game finally begins, and the two teams comes in. I sing the national anthem with all the supporters, and the match officially begins.
After a few minutes, N’Golo Kanté shoots but the Italian goalkeeper stops it with a jump on the left. Barely a few minutes later, Benjamin Pavard raises the ball, which find Kylian, standing on the very left of the Italian goal. He shoots but the ball arrives in the keeper’s legs, who jumped on the ground. But the ball slips through his fingers, and Samuel Umtiti takes his chance: he shoots and finds the soccer goal. The French supporters scream of joy, and Louisa and I join them in their celebration, jumping and screaming with them. Later on, an Italian player makes on fool on Lucas Hernandez, which outrages the supporters of the Bleus. The player raises his hands, yells that he’s innocent, but the referee is not stupid and decide on a penalty for us. We see the French team consult each other, and Emilien, who I first recognize from his blond hair, seems more that determined to shoot it, and even walks to Didier Deschamps. But it’s eventually Antoine that takes the responsibility. Everything stands silent for a few seconds, then Antoine aims at the goal’s right, and even if the keeper jumps in the right direction he cannot stop it. French supporters rise with joy again, French flags are being waved, and Louisa and I hug each other. Jeez, I think I just found myself a new passion. Less than twenty minutes later, Griezmann does it again, scoring with an assist from Ousmane Dembélé. A few minutes later, the Italian team get a free kick, thankfully our keeper and captain stops it. But Italian captain Bonucci, without any hesitation, shoots out of a sudden and scores.
“Shit,” I say loudly.
Everyone around us is just upset as we are. Later, the referee uses his whistle: it’s half-time. Louisa leaves to get a snack, swearing she’ll be on a diet tomorrow, and comes back right on time for the referee to start the second half. A few minutes later, the Italian come close to score, but thank God Hugo Lloris stops it. He gives the ball to his teammates, and Ousmane finds it. He starts running like crazy, and the fans scream to cheer on him. He arrives to the Italian goal, and when a player from the other team come to take the ball, Ousmane fakes shooting the ball in the center but takes the ball back and shoots. The ball hits the cross-bar, and a disappointed whisper is heard among the Bleus’ fans. But suddenly, Emilien tackles an Italian player, starts running and shoots. This is it! The stadium makes its joy heard and Emilien celebrates for an entire minute. And I thought he was the calm kind…Later, Ousmane tries two time, and Florian tries once, but nothing works. The final whistle is heard and I clap with the other supporters.
“We need to go to the next matches!” I tell Louisa, raising from my seat. “Even if we must go to Siberia!”
She laughs and nods.
“Come, we’ll go see them.”
“We’re allowed to?” she asked, not entirely convinced.
“I don’t know, but Kylian said the team wanted to meet us.”
“I can’t wait to see his face when he’ll see you wearing a Griezmann shirt,” she smirks.
We get down the stairs, and walk towards a bald man who seems to part of the staff. I prepare myself to plead my case but he’s quicker than me, looking at the yellow bracelets that Kylian send us we on our wrists.
“Miss Darian and Miss Honorin, right?”
“Yes,” my best friend answers.
“Follow me, please.”
We follow him on the pitch and then in a corridor. Suddenly, Louisa stops to go to the bathroom.
“I must ask you to wait them, they’ll be here soon. This is for you,” he hands me a badge.
“Thank you.”
I take the “Visitor” badge and wear it like a necklace. He bids me good night and leaves. Now alone, I feel like I must stretch my legs, and starts walking around the room. I’ve walked six times past the “Staff” door when I hear a voice coming another large corridor.
“There’s nothing to discuss here. We took that decision all together.”
It’s Paul Pogba, and he sounds very serious. Suddenly too curious for my own good, I lean on the wall and listen.
“But it’s not fair, dude.”
I recognize Emilien’s voice immediately.
“You’ve been saying that since earlier, we get it. That’s why we changed our plan. So that’s Antoine that will take care of it, end of the discussion. He earned it. Hye, don’t give me that face, bro, you’re the one that had the idea!” he adds, raising his voice which becomes cold.
I hear someone coming, and then another voice.
“Chill, guys.” Kylian says.
“Aren’t you fucking pissed off by all of this?” Emilien asks.
“Yes, on the idea,” Kylian confesses. “But Grizou was picked, and he will succeed. We saw it yesterday.”
The steps are coming closer and I run to the other side of the corridor, faking waiting. I turn around innocently, and see Kylian.
“Hi,” I smile. “Congrats, it was awesome.”
“Thanks a lot,” he says, smiling back at me.
“And thank you for the flowers and the card. It was adorable.”
“Oh I’m glad you liked them. I didn’t really know which flowers to pick, so Olivier helped me out.”
At this moment, Louisa comes back. Damn, she was falling down the toilet or something?
“Hi! Good match, huh?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
“I was thanking Kylian for the flowers,” I tell her.
“Oh right, it was really nice from you.”
“My pleasure. All ladies deserve flowers. The guys must be all fresh now, ready to come into the circus?”
He gives us a smile and invites us to follow him into the corridor which he came from moments ago.
We enter the locker room, and I quickly pray not to see any butt. Thankfully, like Kylian said, they’re all dressed up. They turn towards us as one and I feel my face becoming paler.
“Good evening, ladies,” Didier Deschamps say, shaking my hand. “How are you?”
He shakes Louisa’s hand, and his assistant, Guy Stephan, come to say hello too.
“Come on, boys, be polite,” he tells the team as a teacher.
They all come to greet us with the bise (NDA: for those who don’t know it’s the French way to say hello or goodbye, it’s like you and the other person kiss each other’s cheek). Antoine comes among the last ones, right after Emilien. When his lips touch my cheek I get a little shock, and by the way he steps back, I can see he got one too.
“Sorry,” I say.
“No, that’s on me.”
He looks at me and give me a small, shy smile and then Paul, who is standing behind him, gets impatient.
“Hey, bro, are you are gonna move your ass or what?”
Everyone laughs, and Blaise Matuidi comes to the striker’s defense.
“Leave him alone, he’s just saying hi.”
But Antoine steps aside to let his friend come forward, and I surprised by the feeling of disappointment it creates inside of me. But I do my best not to show it, and greets Paul and then Hugo Lloris.
“Where is Benji?” asks the Captain to the group.
“Still in the showers, I think”, Raphaël answers. “When I came back here he just had finished showering.”
“Come, we’ll go see him,” Hugo tells him. “Olive?”
Olivier Giroud nods, raises from his seat and follows his friends.
“Lovely meeting you,” Hugo tells me with a smile before leaving the room.
Olivier and Raphaël waves at me and leave after him.
“So, did you like the match?” Guy Stephan asks Louisa and me.
“Yeah, it was awesome,” Louisa answers.
“Yes, and congrats on your victory,” I add. “Continue like that and the World Cup is coming straight to you guys.”
“You’re too nice,” Deschamps says.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t talk to all of you last night,” I say. “I was…very busy.”
My eyes meet Antoine’s and I look at the ground.
“Nah, don’t worry,” Ousmane laughs. “We know Grizou and Kyky just couldn’t stop bothering you. They got no education whatsoever.”
“Bro, you’re the annoying one,” Kylian snaps, outraged. “Go sit your ass somewhere else. And you got no education, I swear to God-”
Ousmane laughs again but doesn’t move. They all come to talk to us, ask questions and tell me they had a good time at the gala.
“It’s getting late,” I say, “We’re not gonna bothering you guys any longer.”
“What?” Louisa says, turning her head towards me.
“Oh, already?” says Samuel Umtiti, looking disappointed.
All around the room the guys look the same way. They look like kids, it’s cute.
“You can stay, there’s no problem, really” Steve Mandanda assures.
“It’s nice of you, maybe next time?” I say softly, grabbing Louisa’s arm.
“And Antoine who was so happy to see you again,” Paul teases.
“Well, he saw her, didn’t he?” Emilien snaps, his voice surprisingly cold. “And maybe the girls got things to do tomorrow, or maybe they work.”
“It’s true,” Louisa sighs.
“I’ll escort you two,” Antoine says.
I wave everyone goodbye, and we follow Antoine in the corridor we came in from, and until the stadium’s parking lot.
“Our number 7 is a true gentleman,” Louisa teases him.
“I wasn’t gonna let you walk alone in the night, he answers. “There might some psycho around here.”
“My car is right here,” I say, pointing at it. “Well, see you around.”
“See you two soon.”
Before I can breathe, he leans towards me, kisses my cheek and at the same time I feel a small paper in my hand. His lips are warm and his skin soft, and I feel a shiver through my body. He gives me a smile and walks away before I could think of the options I had. Pulling myself together, I grab my keys when I hear a voice in the night.
“Gabrielle?”
I raise my head and see Antoine, turned in our direction.
“Nice jersey.”
He gives me a grin and then walks towards the stadium, hands in his pockets. Louisa put hers on her hips and turns to me.
“Am I under an invisibly cloak or somethin’?”
“So, are you gonna send him a message or do I have to do it in your place?”
“Are you gonna leave me at some point or?” I snap. “Let me do my homework, I’ll think about it after.”
Louisa sighs, muttering some words I can’t understand, and goes inside our bathroom. Since we came back from the stadium last night, she won’t stop bugging me with Antoine and the message he put in my hand, were he wrote his phone number and two words: Call me. Of course I want to call him, but there’s no way I’m doing it now, otherwise he’s gonna get ideas. I finish my homework and send them to my teacher when Louisa comes back and sits on the couch. I let out a sigh and sits beside her.
“It’s not that I don’t want to call him,” I start. “But I call him as soon as the day after, he’s going to think I’m the type of girl who runs to him as soon as he calls me.”
Lou’ thinks for a minute and eventually nods.
“You ain’t wrong. But you can show him you’re not like that later. One advice, hun, call him this week, or he’ll think you’re not interested. And you are interested, aren’t you?”
“Yes, I am. But I only saw him twice.”
“But you two did talk at your gala, didn’t you?”
I never told Louisa what happened with Antoine at the gala – mostly because it’s probably me imagining things. I decide to do it now, and when I’m done telling her, she frowns.
“But I probably made it up in my mind,” I say quickly.
“Did you made you the fact that he leaned towards you and touched your hair?” she asks sarcastically with a smile.
“No,” I admit. “But the rest, yes.”
“Maybe you didn’t. If your mother hadn’t broke the charm, he probably would have given you one hell of a kiss,” she laughs.
“Not in front of everyone,” I retort. “When we’re not alone, he’s very different.”
“Because he’s with his friends,” she assures. “All dudes are like that. When you guys will know each other better and you’ll show him who’s in charge, I assure you his behavior will change.”
“Maybe.”
“But do try to see him before he and that click of his go to Russia for their business.”
She’s right. Once the team will be in Russia, it will be hard to…well, continue what hasn’t begun yet.”
“But I told Kylian I would go have a coffee with him,” I remind her. “What will he think if I see Antoine?”
“Oh it’s fine, it’s not like he asked you to marry him,” Louisa says, rolling her eyes. “He’ll get that you prefer Antoine. But if you really have a problem with that, I can handle the Kylian boy,” she adds with a teasing smile.
We both laugh but I know she’s half serious.
“But seriously, Gaby, don’t stress out,” she says seriously. “If something must happen between you and Griezmann, it will. If not, well it just won’t.”
I nod, knowing she’s right.
Road to 4☆TOWN
part 30 | part 31 | part 32
“That was a really pretty song you were just singing.” Selina smiled sweetly. “Is it one of the band’s new songs?”
“One day it will be.” Jesse said as he rubbed her belly gently. “I’m still workshopping a few parts so it won’t be on this album, but the boys seem to like it so far.”
“You wrote it?”
“For you.” Jesse nodded. “I was feeling pretty guilty about spending all my time either in class or at the studio. I kinda just wanted a way to show you exactly what you mean to me, especially now.”
Selina’s eyes sparkled as she stared at him. “I can’t tell if I’m getting butterflies or if that’s the baby kicking.” She paused. “Actually, that was definitely a kick.”
“Wait, really?” Jesse smiled from ear to ear.
“He’s trying to tell you he likes the song, and he likes it when you sing to him.” Selina stroked Jesse’s hair. “I like it, too.”
“I wish I could stay here and sing to you guys all day.” Jesse rested his head on her shoulder. “I really don’t want to go to class.”
“And I don’t wanna write this fifteen page essay, but here we are.” Selina chuckled. “It’s just one class. You’ll be home before you know it.”
“And then?” Jesse glanced at her. “I have to wake up early to get to the studio on time tomorrow.” He buried his face in her shoulder. “I just wanna be with you.”
Selina stared at him. “And who’s the pregnant one here…?”
“Ugh, you know what I mean.” Jesse wrapped his arms around her midriff.
“Okay, okay, fine.” Selina laughed at his clinginess. “When you get home, I’ll put the essay away and we can have a date night in. You pick the takeout, I’ll pick the movie.”
“And I can have lots of cuddles?” Jesse looked at her with doe eyes.
“Geez, man, when do I ever say no to cuddles?” Selina rolled her eyes. They got quiet. “When did we become an old married couple?”
Jesse absentmindedly traced circles into her thigh. “About…22 weeks ago.”
“Are we gonna be this boring forever?” Selina looked at him.
“If I’m lucky, yeah.” Jesse sighed. He hugged Selina closer and shut his eyes.
“Babe, no. You have to go to class.”
“I don’t have to leave for another twenty minutes.” Jesse muttered quietly. “It’s just a quick nap. I’ll be fine.”
Selina stared at her boyfriend, suddenly feeling guilty about how overworked and tired he was. “Poor b—” She was cut off by Jesse’s loud snoring. “Ugh, I forgot. Twenty minutes of this.”
knock knock...
the sound of someone knocking on your window caused you to smile broadly. you had been waiting for his arrival since you decided to spend time with him. as soon as the curtain was drawn back, you noticed him sitting on the balcony's railing. the moment he laid eyes on you, his eyes' corners began to widen slightly.
"you got some time today?" he asked. that was all he ever asked when you opened your window. you became tired of hearing him ask the same question every night, but not tonight. you were curious what he might say if you finally agreed to hang out with him. you nodded in response to his question. his eyes were wide open, and he smiled like a child who had received their favorite toys for christmas.
because he didn't want to waste any time, he pulled your arm, lifted you like a bride, and jumped from the balcony with you in his arms. "where are we going?" you asked, looking at your house that is getting smaller from your view.
he didn't reply but only smiled at your question. a few minutes later, you were brought to a nearby hill where you could watch the entire demon town. the two of you sat on the grass and listened to the sound of nature. you closed your eyes as you enjoyed the cold wind hitting your face. he glanced at you and seeing your face made him nervous.
"i'm lucia," he said as he awkwardly held out his hand. you looked down at his hand and laughed. you didn't want to leave him hanging, so you shook his hand.
"everyone knows who you are, lucia," you replied, looking at the dark sky. he scratched his head and giggled. "i'm confused about why the future king of nightmare suddenly came into my window and asked me to hang out with him. i thought he would give up whenever i refused, but i was wrong. so, lucia, why do you insist on hanging out with me?"
lucia went silent for a bit as he tried to find an answer. a few seconds of silence passed, and he still didn't answer your question. when his eyes met yours, he giggled awkwardly and raised his shoulders.
"you caught my attention. nobody has ever refused my invitation, so i was devastated when you turned me down. that's why i wanted to try and challenge myself to win your heart, and tonight is my lucky night,"
you rolled your eyes, "you're one of those, huh?"
"i'm not a bad guy! you seemed like an interesting person," he glanced at you from the corner of his eyes to find you smiling. he gasped and quickly grabbed something from his coat pocket. he pulled out a small red box and handed it to you.
"i bought it last month when we first met. now i can finally give this to you," you looked down at the box. what could it be? is it a ring? a necklace? a bracelet? so much jewelry came to mind, and you were happy to think about it. this is the first time someone other than your family and close friends has given you a present. not only that, the person who gave you this is the future king of your land.
but before you could open it, lucia suddenly stood up. you raised your head to look at him and saw his panicked expression. "shit, my butler is looking for me. i have a very important meeting tomorrow, and he caught me sneaking out from my estate," lucia explained. you chuckled, and the two of you went back to your house. as you entered your room, you turned to him.
"geez, i'll be back tomorrow. i promise tomorrow, we should hang out longer than tonight," said lucia, raising his pinky finger. you nodded. you knew he'll keep his promise as he never missed a day of visiting you every night. he left, and you sat on your bed, glancing at the gift he had bought you. you opened the box and gasped when you saw a necklace with a charm shaped like an open window. it was adorable and quite hilarious to you, but of course, you appreciate his gift. you regretted not accepting his offer sooner, but you were determined to get to know him now. who knows what your future might be? either way, you went to sleep as you couldn't wait for tomorrow night to arrive.
