Here’s what’s on my mind lately…

On the personal front:

I’ve been sitting a lot with internally differentiating between spending intentional time to hone my craft and separating my concept of self-value from productivity. I know that those two things are separate and should be, but I’ve been candidly ✨going through it✨ lately, so I’m slowly but surely easing back into writing — hopefully with a stronger internal separation between what I create and how my art equates to who I am/what I’m worth.

I recently learned about the cocoon stage of healing from Nicole DePera, aka the Holistic Psychologist. And even without knowing the terminology, I realized that I was doing exactly this! It’s very much a stage of returning to oneself and prioritizing one’s emotional health — and that’s definitely what I’ve been doing over the past few weeks. Lots of reading. Lots of napping. Lots of quality time with my kids and my family and my friends. Lots of reevaluating what’s important to me, what I want to hold onto, what I want to let go of.

On fic writing:

My husband has been sharing some snippets/learnings from Rick Rubin’s “The Creative Act: A Way of Being.” I’ll be reading the whole thing soon (probably after I finish reading this novel I’m devouring), but the concept of The Artist as the Experimenter vs The Artist as the Finisher (screenshots below) is really sticking with me. It’s very obvious that I fall into the Experimenter camp: I am never not without ideas. But I am prepared to step back into the intentional space of writing as a craft, and I’m committing to finishing some things soon.

On that note: I’ve had a breakthrough with my post-canon arumika fic so that is going to be finished and posted this week!

Also on that note: Just did a csm rewatch and the akimeno brainrot is REAL. It helps/doesn’t help that my husband is also firmly on the “Aki & Himeno were work colleagues who totally fucked on the regular” side — I sense a fic or two percolating… (See? Ideas galore.)

Finally, I’m going to Anime Expo with my sister this weekend! It’s my first trip in a while without my husband and kids, so I’m very excited to just spend some time with my sister and myself. And also to tap into my inner child for a weekend full of play…

In actor au, Annie and Mikasa became fast friends during filming! After they filmed some rivalry scenes, they always posted pictures together on social media.

Connie is very hairy! the poor thing had to shave his hair because of the character.

Historia sometimes liked some fan posts that said things like: "Why fight over erehisu or eremika when you can like Mikahisu?" and that kind of sparked a bunch of theories about maybe mikahisu being a couple at the end of the show.🤭

Armin and Mikasa were really close so some fans theorized that they were dating in real life lol and they have a very strong fanbase in the style similar to kpop shipping, but they're just friends anyway.😭 (And Eren was a little suspicious too.)

definitely I think the friendship between mikannie made their rivalry scenes more believable.

HAIRY CONNIE. once filming ends he grows his hair all the way out. the epilogue was a happy day for him.

LOL hisu just liked stirring the pot saying: actually mikahisu got married and the farmer accompanied mikasa to the grave with her. isn’t that so nice of him? ❤️ just starting shit but in a funny way lol.

arumika went on one date after armin’s breakup with historia (that relationship lasted two weeks) but before he started hooking up with annie. I think mikasa and jean were on a break and they briefly got back together but alas it didn’t last lol because she realized where her heart really was.

11. What work took you the longest to write? That will always be Rotten Judgement. As of now, I've been a year writing it—9 months (since March, when I started updating) writing it every. single. day. 12. How many WIP's do you have in your docs for next year? Just one! Or maybe three... The triptych of hurt, basically (3 parts). And, maybe if I'm lucky or I still have motivation to write for AOT, I would revive the Hogwarts AU, The run aways AU, or The backpackers AU. 13. What's your longest work of the year? Rotten Judgement :') 14. What's your shortest work of the year? A hopeful, secret dream 15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you? The triptych! I've bad already begun writing the first part, the Erejeankasa one. I would like to update during Erejeankasa week :') 16. What's your most common "Additional Tags" tag? "Slow burn". 17. Your favorite character to write this year? Jean Kirstein. 18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year? ...Eren Jaeger. His psychological burden in RJ is quite complicated, and I needed to make him agreeable to readers but also not justify his actions and beliefs. 19. What's one pairing you want to explore next year? Rivamika and Arumika, both featured in The triptych. 20. Which work of yours have you reread the most? Oh, damn, I did not live until today! Because it was incredibly indulgent and I really think this fandom runs low on Glee/High School Musical/Drama School AUs. In particular, I always reread the first night at the karaoke (Levi and Mikasa's interaction; Mikasa and Eren singing Exile) and also the night where Mikasa and Eren FINALLY confess. Also her final performance.

This ones pretty straightforward but its just meant to show that even thought they've both changed alot, the love and support has stayed. I really like that about them.

Awh hello! Right so- the thing is that I kinda fell off the tumblr radar altogether (i moved to snk twitter lmao) so I just.. would find it difficult to navigate through tumblr again. But I also don’t want the prospect of an arumika week to fall apart solely bc of me. So I want to put it out there: does anyone want to take over this account? I’ll help you with anything you’re unsure of, its just that I don’t really think I could do it justice this time.

Day 2 - Childhood

prompt: time skip. post-canon, feat. gabi and arumika baby. unfinished.

The rare warm breeze creeps in through the open window, bringing with it the clean scent of the mountains:  cold water from rushing creeks, fresh, bright flowers, sunlight. It carries the sound of laughter from Gabi and Sasha, sitting out where she can see them from the kitchen window. Gabi braids together flowers - sloppily, inexpertly, because she only learned how to do it recently - into a crown for the little girl sitting in front of her. Sasha doesn’t notice, doesn’t care about the quality, clapping her hands with glee.

Mikasa’s heart warms and aches at once. At seventeen, Gabi is experiencing things she never had a chance to. She finally has a chance to be a child, to live. The nightmares still come hard and fast, and she crawled into bed next to Mikasa the night before, sobbing and shaking and pleading. It’s never intelligible, so Mikasa just murmurs soft words and strokes her hair, rocking her back and forth until she settles. Sasha had been woken up by the noise - a not uncommon occurrence that Gabi tries and often fails to avoid - and Armin had tried to grab her and curl around her to avoid further exposure. But she wanted Mama, so they ended up with Gabi against her front, Sasha snuggled against her back, and Armin pushed to the edge of the bed on his side.

But now, Gabi sits on the grass, tongue poking between her lips and brow furrowed as she loops the stems in front of Sasha’s wide blue eyes. There’s nothing haunted in her expression:  she looks serene even in full concentration. Sasha chatters at her as she works, voice loud enough for Mikasa to hear but words not formed enough to be understood. A smile quirks up the corners of her lips despite her thoughts, hands submerged in the tepid dish water. 

She does not truly startle at the cracking of a book spine behind her - not after everything that has happened in her life - but it does bring her back to the present. She swishes her hands through the water, searching for more dishes and finding none. She yanks the plug, and the water drains from the sink as she dries her pruney fingers on her apron before taking it off. Behind her, a chair scrapes against the floor. Armin is two steps away, so she doesn't have a chance to turn to meet him. He wraps his arms around her waist. His chin then lands on her shoulder, looking outside with her.

They watch together as Gabi finishes the crown, holding it up with a triumphant grin before her shoulders slouch. Something about it isn’t to her liking (though, from what Mikasa can see, it turned out well for one of her first flower crowns), and she slowly lowers it. Sasha’s squeal makes her jump, tense, but before Gabi can react fully, the little girl reaches out to touch the intertwined stems. She doesn’t take it, just looks at it with wonder. She says things that must be praise because Gabi brightens again, laying the crown on Sasha’s little sunhat. It’s almost as wide as the brim and ends up drooping over it at the front. Sasha looks at it for a moment, tipping forward in her concentration (and likely cross eyed stare). Gabi catches her and they both start to laugh.

“I worry about her so much,” Mikasa says. Sasha starts to shriek from Gabi’s tickling fingers. Armin takes in a breath and lets it out, the warm air tickling her skin and sending the stale scent of her Hizuru tea dancing under her nose. 

“I know,” he says, tightening his arms around her. “You’re - we’re doing the best that we can. I think she’s getting better.” Sasha crawls into her lap and starts kissing Gabi’s face to distract her from the tickling. It never fails to work. Gabi’s sunhat flies off as she falls backward, landing with ease on her back. Mikasa closes her eyes when Sasha sits up on Gabi’s stomach, looking down with concern only to get caught up in tickles again.

“I hope she is,” she whispers, as though there’s any possibility of them being heard over the laughter and cries. Armin squeezes her again but doesn’t respond. It’s a subject that they’ve gone over and over:  one they’ve never argued about or even disagreed on. It lingers and lingers in Mikasa’s mind, always there even if not in the forefront.

Arumika Week Day 2 — Childhood

Cloth soaked in cold water helps with the swelling and the bruise. At least that’s what Mikasa says, and Armin feels inclined to believe her.

Eren’s off somewhere screaming vitriol at a bully, presumably.

“So... it doesn’t bother you that I’m taller than you?”

“What?” The question’s caught him off-guard. It’s never occurred to him to be bothered by something like that. A lesser man might -- oh, but technically, she’s just pointed out he is a lesser man, at least height-wise -- 

He finds this hilariously funny. “Well -- no, actually.” Armin’s response dissolves mirthfully into soft laughter. “I like looking up at you.” Just as he’s doing right now. A gentle smile crinkles his eyes. “Has it ever bothered you that my mind is more... complex than yours?”

“No.” Mikasa’s answer is curt, but her soft smile’s a match for his. And frankly, her knees are a little weak, from the look he’s giving her with those soul-piercing, intelligent eyes. “In fact, I count on it. Has it ever bothered you that I’m a better fighter?”

“Huh? --no! Of course not!” Surprise widens his bright blue eyes. “I’ve been counting on that, too!” How could it bother him? Everything about her is amazing. There’s a silence between them as he decides to finally broach the unspoken topic. “Has it ever bothered you how close I am with Eren?”

Her face is impassive as she deadpans back: “Has it ever bothered you how close I am with Eren?”

There’s a heartbeat of silence before they fall into easy chuckles, then into each other, fully embracing the quiet, unshakable confidence of two people that trust in themselves, one another, and the bond they share.

And as the afternoon unfolds, all evidence would point to their complete satisfaction... that neither of them has a single thing to prove.

Ahhhhhh see?! This is why I need to talk to my husband about my wips again: he pointed out a better series of events, and I realized that was why I was stuck…!

Manifesting some creativity and progress... I’m committing to finishing up my arumika post-canon wip, “you, me, and the sea,” this week…!

“His name's Patches,” Armin explained, flicking one of the long, droopy ears. “I hug him when there are ghosts around.”

“Grisha says ghosts aren't real,” Mikasa said, hugging Patches to her abdomen. She looked at least a little comforted anyway.
