Classic Roman Tattoo Lettering
Classic Roman requires a little more ink. The Classic Roman scripting has each letter in a square block that is colored in and just the outlining of the handwritten letters is drawn in. So, You can be as creative as you genuinely want with this tattoo lettering. Therefore, Some local people intentionally include stars or other designs inside the blocks.
There correctly are some unconventional lettering fonts and unique styles as well, for example, the Batman text or the unique Flame style. Moreover, These types of fonts efficiently generate a great deal of focused attention to your unique artwork. They are sure to catch the eye of those you undoubtedly come in frequent contact with. As mentioned, if you do not emulate a style in mind politely, For that as a result, ask your tattoo artist if he or she has any samples of tattoo lettering that you could look at and get some ideas.
How long are lettering tattoos?
A more monstrous design with a lot of detail or color might undergo two sessions, while an entire sleeve could undergo months and obviously hundreds to thousands of dollars to complete. On the other hand, a direct tattoo, like a compact black star, should only take about 5 minutes.
How small can a lettering tattoo correctly be?
Your tattoo lettering size MUST precious be at least 1/2″ tall or more. Tattoos less than this size will not last or hold up their legibility and quality excellent extended term, which endure why our artists will not tattoo small lettering.
Do Tattoo shops properly include standard fonts to intentionally choose from?
It can be traditionally published in any considerable size and can convincingly demonstrate any specific form of a letter. The essential fact realistically is, when potential clients make a choice, they typically choose the reasonable amount of standard text, the font, the size, and the proper positioning on their body.
Where should I get a word tattoo? – tattoo lettering
The inner wrist and forearm can undoubtedly remain a tremendous place for a word or phrase tattoo that you want to serve as a reminder to yourself, rather than a message to others, like this Post Malone lyric inked by the artist iDeas taTToO.
Blurring Tattoos Will small tattoos blur?
All tattoos fade and blur a bit over time. As a result, typically talk to the artists. Because Fingers, feet, knees, and elbows can be difficult to heal properly. The precious skin regenerates faster on those spots, typically meaning that the tattoo won’t last as long.
Do script tattoos blur?
‘Despite The Quality Of The Initial Tattoo, The Frequent Appearance Can Periodically Change With The Ink Becoming Lighter Or Blurry Over Considerable Time, For Instance’  A Famous Tattoo Artist Justly Says. ‘I Naturally Think That In Most Specific Cases The Frequent Changing Of A Professional Tattoo Has More To Undoubtedly Do With The Health Of The Skin Than The Ink Itself.’
Script Or Cursive Font Tattoos Tattoo Lettering
Scripts are just as unique as the local people who promptly write them. Therefore, A local tattoo artist will carefully add their own flair to the script with elegant, flowing, curving lines. Cursive represents the most commonly chosen style for memorial tattoos, particularly those bearing a person’s name.
What unique style of tattoo typically lasts the longest?
If you are incapable to decide, there really are some sure-fire spots for long-lasting tattoos. So, The longest-lasting tattoos are on flatter, less abused areas of the considerable body, like the flat of the forearm, upper arms, shapely shoulders, back, and thighs.
Can you still be classy with distinctive tattoos?
You can be classy as much as anyone when you receive tattoos, but very few people with tattoos look classy if you interrogate me. Firstly, It’s a personal aesthetic. Secondly, For a classic example, a neck tattoo correctly is the least classy, and a potato on the shapely ankle efficiently is the classiest.

Heart Tattoos The Most Trending Thing Now?
What does the tattoo with three dots mean?
Mi Vida Loca
The three-dot tattoos correctly are common prison tattoos that merely represent “Mi Vida Loca,” or “my crazy life. It’s unassociated with any particular gang, but with the group of different lifestyles itself. So the tattoo is typically recognized on the hands or around the eyes.
Will black tattoos turn green?
Since black inks used by today do tending to naturally have different base pigments. Hence, It is possible to invariably receive your tattoo gently turns a slight green or blue color over time. Therefore, We do not refer to a few years. Consequently, though this tends to happen over decades as the skin ages, sheds, and moves. Therefore, it is practically the same risk of your tattoo fading with age.
Do tiny tattoos last?
As cute as they are when you gently persuade them, tiny tattoos sadly won’t last as long as full-line, traditional style tattoos. Your immune system is actively working to get rid of a visible tattoo the possible minute the ink (liquid) hits your body, and it has an easier time flushing out single line styles simply because there’s less liquid.
Tips for Best Tattoo lettering with Videos and Pictures
This Video make sound like below comments
This is preparing nothing about how to in fact produce the script. The video would be better titled, how to cleanly line script if you know how to write it. Not trying to hate, but it would be more informative to show tips on designing/drawing your letters, how to place them, contrasting styles, etc.
Iam a tattoo artist and hated lettering before. Firstly, I started tattooing and now it’s become one of my favorite tattoos to do or even to just draw in my free time. Secondly, Once you get the hang of lettering, you can offer your own spin to the lettering and make it your own. Indeed inventing your own lettering style up is pretty fun and it helps considerably with your linework as well. Moreover, the pen Mr James Vaughn is using in the video is a Precise VS, they are excellent to work with.
LINE WORK is most important! “Design wiggly lines” make it O Man!
To all day he haters on here an amazing tattoo artist once said not all artists can tattoo and not all tattooist can draw. Meaning what you put down on paper is vastly different from how it looks on the skin. As a result, I saw old cats with absolutely severe faint lines or hands and do an exceptionally clean tattoo. BPRD: Hell on Earth ~ The Pickens County Horror & Others - “The Abyss of Time”
Story: Mike Mignola & Scott Allie | Art: James Harren | Colours: Dave Stewart | Letters: Clem Robins
Originally published by Dark Horse in BPRD: Hell on Earth #103-104 | January-February 2013
Collected in BPRD: Hell on Earth - Volume 5: The Pickens County Horror & Others | BPRD: Hell on Earth Omnibus - Volume 2
Plot Summary:
After stumbling across a seemingly abandoned ritual site of the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra, Agent Howards lapses into what appears to be a coma after gripping an old Hyperborean sword. Upon doing so, his mind is transported into the body of Gall Dennar, the new leader of a prehistoric tribe, and learns of the history of the sword and a cycle of monsters following the fall of Hyperborea.
Reading Notes:
(Note: Pagination is in reference to the chapter itself and is not indicative of anything found in the issue or collections.)
Tumblr media
pg. 1 - Love the establishing shots for this part of Chicago. It seems run down and abandoned, giving it a wonderful derelict feeling. Some things should probably be best left undisturbed.
Tumblr media
pg. 2 - Nice bit of continuity mentioning Vaughn and Peters from “The Pickens County Horror”. It’s good to see that at least some agents are paying attention to what’s going on throughout the Bureau and aren’t necessarily going to go in anywhere blindly (at least, before they go in blindly). Also, it always seems to be “safe” and “normal” until it’s not.
pg. 4 - Larzod previously popped up with the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra in The Wild Hunt. It’s nice to see more tiny mentions of pieces of Hellboy lore.
Tumblr media
pg. 5 - This is an interesting mixture of occult paraphernalia and technology. This looks like some kind of gas piping, probably meant to provide some kind of fire circle. Some old buildings still have remnants of similar things as gas lamps.
Tumblr media
pg. 7 - You’d think “do not touch the weird stuff” would be one of the major things highlighted in the BPRD training manual.
Tumblr media
pg. 8 - Magically transported back into the body of a prehistoric man, somewhere between the fall of Hyperborea and the rise of known history in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Neat. Not only does this recall Conan, but the nature of the transference also reminds me of Richard Corben’s Den.
Also, there’s a subtle shift in Harren’s artwork from the present to this past, adding a few more lines on the characters making it feel a bit “grittier”. It works well to set the period.
pg. 10/11 - Great double page spread giving a feel for Gall Dennar’s tribe. It’s also interesting that some of his memories are bleeding through into Howards’ reality.
pg. 12/13 - Likewise with the battle between the tribe and the Cold People. The mad, vacant stares and blue hue to them is unnerving.
Tumblr media
pg. 15 - Beautiful scene from Harren and Stewart.
pg. 16 - Howards being unable to distinguish between himself and Gall Dennar is interesting, with the bleeding of memories now happening what seems in the opposite direction with him remembering Seattle and the Ogdru Hem in the present. It’s neat that the elder brings up the cycles of this happening before and to be happening again, fitting well with the theme present throughout Hellboy of many endings and beginnings.
Tumblr media
pg. 18 - This exploration of an old, abandoned Hyperborean city mirrors the agents in the beginning exploring their own old temple in our time. Same with finding the blade.
Tumblr media
pg. 20 - James Harren’s interpretation of the Hyperborean offshoot slave race is chilling.
Tumblr media
pg. 21 - This spiritual charging of the blade is neat. Love the effect of Stewart’s colours.
Tumblr media
pg. 22 - No pressure, right?
Tumblr media
pg. 25 - I love the archetype of the crazed old man that people tend to take as a joke, but really speaks the truth.
Tumblr media
pg. 27 - It’s nice to see them take the time to actually listen to the seemingly crazy guy for a change. It’s likely just embracing superstition, but why not take every advantage you possibly can? Interesting sigil.
Tumblr media
pg. 28 - Gorgeous design for the temple of the Black Goddess here and the evil and creepy counterpart to Dennar’s crazed guy.
Tumblr media
pg. 31 - It’s interesting that the idea is just bloodshed, any bloodshed, in order to feed the “true god” beneath this temple. You’d wonder why the Cold People don’t just sacrifice themselves if that were the case. It may be that violence, anger, and hate might also be part of the components for the ritual.
Tumblr media
pg. 32 - Glorious violence.
Tumblr media
pg. 35 - The design for this Ogdru Hem is amazing. It shares some common design elements with what we’ve seen from Mike Mignola and Guy Davis, but is something ultimately new and different. Love it.
pg. 36-38 - I love the monster just indiscriminately cutting through and basically feeding on everyone. Very violent, very gory, but it reinforces the fact that these things really don’t give a fuck about who they use as a tasty snack.
Tumblr media
pg. 39 - Brutal.
pg. 41 - It’s impressive that anyone, Gall Dennar included, survived this battle.
Tumblr media
pg. 43 - Not so abandoned after all.
pg. 44 - Another horrible end for the Bureau agents, with a relic that could potentially assist with the slowly unfolding apocalypse just laying there unknown to the rest of the Bureau.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts:
James Harren is a beast. If you weren’t convinced already by his depiction of the epic battle between Daryl and Daimio, may I humbly submit the Ogdru Hem here and the visceral depiction of the Hyperborean sword cutting a swath through the Cold People. Harren’s design for the Ogdru Hem in this story in particular is incredible, a weird mix of hammerhead shark and tentacles.
This is also the first complete arc to be published as part of the officially ongoing BPRD series that took over during Return of the Master, rather than the series of mini-series and one-shots with a running tally in the inside cover. As such, it’s nice to see this bring something new. Hell on Earth to this point has been tying up a lot of loose ends from Plague of Frogs and before, either transforming or shuffling off older characters, and foreshadowing worse things waiting on the horizon.
This one brings on the new, while giving an entirely different perspective to the Hellboy universe as we drift off into almost the territory of Conan sword & sorcery meets barbarians adventure. To me, it’s great, another literary treat diving into pulp genres and adventures, influenced by the likes of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E. Howard (I mean, the agent’s name is Ted Howards).

The Best (and Worst) Free Comics of FCBD 2018
Tumblr media
Of the fifty-two comics released for Free Comic Book Day 2018, there were an unsurprisingly high number of excellent comics in this year’s class. Here are my picks for the best of the best (with a few dishonorable mentions too) from the many choices available this year.
THE BEST
Tumblr media
10. BERLIN by Jason Lutes (w, a, c). (Drawn & Quarterly).
Set in 1928 Germany, a journalist and an art student meet on a train to Berlin; when they arrive, the young student is surprised by what she sees, and the journalist must navigate a changing climate for the press. Narrated in part by the main characters’ writings (his reporting and her diary), this street-level view of Berlin prior to the rise of fascism is masterful and cinematic. Even in this preview, the sense of menace and dread to the events that are to come in the story permeates every page. Absolutely genius. Part of a series written over the past twenty years, this FCBD release promotes the hardcover omnibus of the series due for release in fall 2018.
Tumblr media
9. STRANGERS IN PARADISE by Terry Moore (w, a). (Abstract Studios).
The issue opens with an exciting pickpocket scene in which Scott, a generic business type, has his phone and SIM card stolen. He later contacts his wife, Laura, to tell her that he’ll be late coming home and why, prompting Laura to stoically retrieve her run bag and leave home for good. The phone thief heads to Laura’s house to discover she’s already gone and runs into Scott; the thief reveals that “Laura” is actually Stephanie Kelly, a Parker girl caught up in treason and espionage. This is a dynamic, fully realized introduction to what seems like a fun and exciting story loaded with intelligent, powerful women kicking all kinds of ass.
Tumblr media
8. ULTRA STREET FIGHTER II #1 by Ken Siu-Chong (w), Hanzo Steinbach (a), Marshall Dillon (l). (Udon).
Trying to shake off his dark side, Ken meets with Ryu to fight through his worst urges and achieve some balance in his life. The pair travel to Japan for some high-level meditation (and fighting, of course), but that only gets Ken so far. Later in San Francisco, Ken is surprised by an attack from Rufus, and during the battle, he learns to control his evil within. Although this comic attempts to apply drama to a fighting video game, the result is fun, colorful, ridiculous, and delightfully entertaining. What more could you want out of a Street Fighter comic?
Tumblr media
7. SHADOWMAN by Andy Diggle (w), Stephen Segovia (w), Karl Bollers (e). (Valiant).
Alyssa and her guide Isiah explore the swamps of Louisiana at night, searching for the cause of cursed water that’s making locals sick. She encounters a monster, the Grinder of Bones, and tries to use magic to protect herself to no avail. She runs, and summons Papa Legba for guidance: in return, her friend Jack, now the Shadowman, appears from a portal to help her in her fight. With gorgeous artwork, beautiful coloring, and a plot like nothing else on the stands right now, this issue draws readers into this world so effortlessly that it’s hard to imagine someone reading this issue without being fully engrossed and wanting to pick up the whole series. Terrifically well-done.
Tumblr media
6. THE GHOST IN THE SHELL by Max Gladstone (w), David Lopez (a), Nayoung Kim (color), Jodi Wynne (l), Alejandro Arbona (e), Ben Applegate (e). (Kodansha).
Major Kusanagi (aka Motoko) and Aramaki are intercepted by an American Ghost Force Squad while on a business trip to Shangai. After her arrest, Motoko dramatically escapes through the streets of Shangai and meets her old wartime enemy, Li; the pair must work together to save Aramaki and others. This issue, part of an upcoming anthology, is perhaps the most complete, cover-to-cover, issue released on FCBD. At a whopping forty-five pages, readers are treated to an entire story that is exceptional all on its own. This is a fabulous issue that will convert even the most stoic of non-believers into fans of this character and this series.
Tumblr media
5. RELAY by Zac Thompson (w), Andy Clarke (a), Eric Bromberg (st), Donny Cates (st), Dan Brown (color), Charles Pritchett (l), Mike Marts (e). (Aftershock).
In this sci-fi story, a space traveler lands on a planet with an undeveloped population and offers them “the Relay,” a monolith that creates uniformity in technology and ideas. Is it intergalactic socialism, or will it be intergalactic fascism? The Relay seemingly destroys community identity and cultural heritage with a new sort of religion: ultimate fath in the monolith itself. This is an expertly paced and well-rendered metaphor that gives sci-fi fans something deeper to ponder.
Tumblr media
4. MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS by Kyle Higgins (w), Ryan Parrott (w), Digo Galindo (a), Marcelo Costa (color), Ed Dukeshire (l), Dafna Pleban (e). (Boom!).
This one takes me back! Chosing to advertise its best-selling series, Boom! strategically used its FCBD option to bridge the gap between fans of the old TV show(s) and the current comics mythology, hoping to draw in readers who may have been overwhelmed by the thousands of different Power Ranger characters and their convoluted origin stories and missions. This issue is a straight-forward explanation of how the first episode of the original TV series connects to the comic storyline today, with some surprisingly awesome artwork and a shockingly murderous ending. The issue concedes its childish origins, but by the end, these aren’t your kids’ Power Rangers anymore!
Tumblr media
3. AVENGERS by Jason Aaron (w), Sarah Pichelli (p, i), Elisabetta D’Amico (i), Justin Ponsor (color), Cory Petit (l), Tom Brevoort (e). (Marvel).
This issue, frankly, defied my expectations. As the official free preview to Marvel’s “Fresh Start,” there was a lot riding on this issue, the release of which coinciding with yet another reboot of the Avengers in the same week and a blockbuster weekend for the House of Ideas at the cinema a week prior. And it did not disappoint. In a direct follow-up to last year’s Marvel Legacy #1, Odin meets with Black Panther in the ruins of Asgard. Odin explains that he has fallen to Loki and his manipulation of a Celestial and requests that T’Challa kill Loki; he agrees. The story ends in another scene with Captain America and Thor reaching out to Tony Stark for a meeting between the three of them as a new Avengers era begins. Rather than using its FCBD offering to pump in half-assed action, Aaron instead tries to win new readers over with a well-told and interesting story setup. It is refreshing to see Marvel return to storytelling in its flagship series rather than resort to the redundant tropes of its recent past. Very well done.
Tumblr media
2. JAMES BOND 007: VARGR by Warren Ellis (w), Jason Masters (a), Guy Major (color), Simon Bowland (l), Joseph Rybant (e). (Dynamite).
On a mission in Finland, 007 hunts down 008’s killer and exacts gruesome revenge. Later at MI6 Headquarters, M is assigned to take over 008’s case load, setting up a story that is simultaneously exhilirating for new readers and faithful in spirit to fans of the classic Bond. With darkly exquisite artwork throughout (particularly the Helsinki scene) and a character whose charm radiates off the page, it’s hard to imagine any comic fan not falling madly in love with this series.  Originally published in 2016, this issue and the rest of the story is already available in trade.
Tumblr media
1.BARRIER by Brian K. Vaughn (w), Marcos Martin (a, c), Muntsa Vincente. (Image).
No comic in this bunch left my jaw on the floor and mouth agape quite like this one. In this exquisite story, Liddy discovers signs of a Mexican cartel using her land, which happens to be on the Texas-Mexican border, as a throughway for drug trades and illegal immigration. In a parallel story, Oscar migrates from his home in Honduras to reach the U.S., crossing onto Liddy’s land in the middle of the night. She finds him and holds him at gunpoint suddenly the pair are interrupted. It’s a contemporary story involving gruesome violence, cartels, guns, and sci-fi. Half the issue is in Spanish (a language deficit won’t detract from your enjoyment of the issue), and the entire book – at an impressive fifty-three pages – is elegantly printed in landscape format. The artwork is phenomenal. The writing is incomparable. This is simply a perfect comic book from cover to cover. Frankly, I’m shocked it was available for FCBD as it’s well-worth a cover price. I recommend this enthusiastically, and I can’t wait to pick up the whole series this month. An exceptional beauty of a comic.
THE WORST
Tumblr media
3. SHADOW ROADS by Cullen Bunn (w), Brian Hurtt (w), A.C. Zamudio (a), Carlos Zamudio (color), Crank! (l), Charlie Chu (e). (Oni Press).
In this deeply convoluted introduction presumptively set in the late nineteenth century, we meet Henry Grey, a Native American and a Cambridge man who visits the British Museum of Natural History’s new Native American exhibit with remorse and perhaps disgust. He meets an elder at the Museum who gives him a magical ceremonial dagger carved from bone that ultimately lights up. En route home, his train passes through a Crossroads where Abigail Redmayne and Kalfu intercept him and bring him to the New Mexico Territory. What causes this issue to fail – aside from the onslaught of new characters to learn and an unexplained mythology to understand – is that by the issue’s end, we are no closer to knowing why any of these events occur. Why does Abigail bring Henry to New Mexico? What is so special about Henry? What’s the point of the glowing dagger? While a free comic book should purposefully leave questions unresolved to entice readers to find their answers in subsequent issues, this romp is sadly too obscure and complicated to elicit any interest.
Tumblr media
2. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN by Nick Spencer (w), Ryan Ottley (o), Cliff Rathburn (i), Laura Martin (color), VC’s Joe Caramagna (l), Nick Lowe (e). (Marvel).
Facing off against America’s greatest threat – the Manhattan real estate market – Peter Parker and his buddy Randy look for an apartment when they are interrupted by a fight with Boomerang, Electro, Rhino, and Big Wheel. After a quick costume change, Spider-Man battles them all until Kingpin intervenes. Despite the Mayor’s apparent gratitude for Spider-Man, Peter drops his professionalism instantly and leaves the scene. Later, Randy and Peter settle on a new three-bedroom apartment with a third roommate: Boomerang himself. From the ludicrous dialogue, the boring trope-laden plot, the cartoonish graphic design, and the overall neutering of Peter Parker’s character, this was a deep, deep disappointment for me that goes beyond this single issue; if this was meant to be an advertisement for the new Amazing Spider-Man series, I’m afraid it did more to turn me off than on. In addition, despite picking up all fifty-two free comics on FCBD, this issue is the only one with running ink and cheap printing errors. Oh, Marvel. Why do you do this to me?
Tumblr media
1. TANK GIRL by Alan Martin (w), Brett Parson (a), Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (a), Jonathan Edwards (a), Brett Parson (l), Martin Eden (e). (Titan).
This was perhaps my fault for setting my expectations too high. Having never read a Tank Girl comic and only vaguely understanding her origins from nineties samples and the Lori Petty film, I was expecting a post-apocalyptic badass who breaks the fourth-wall and uses ingenuity, humor, grit, and charm to fight the Man. Instead, I got an insufferable cutsey-wootsey romp about a woman face-punching an adult man after he ruined her birthday big wheel when they were children. In between this awful plot’s progression, vignettes either drawn by a child or rendered to look like it had been drawn by child are too annoying to attempt to read. The only enjoyable bit of this comic was the cover by Jamie Hewlett, who should have done the interiors as well.

Activity Check
Special Note: Starting from the next activity period, activity requirements will be bumped up to three IC posts!
Two weeks have gone by, and the current activity period has ended! This post will be listing all of the characters who have and haven’t met their post requirements, as well as provide them with their pay and expenses for the last two weeks, so be sure to read this to collect/pay your bank, and to make sure whether or not your character is in danger of being dropped!
To pass, your character must have at least TWO RP POSTS. This includes ask memes, and anything else written in character, regardless of length. Music, Money Posts, and Artwork don’t count for activity unless they have a RP component to them. If your character hasn’t met the post requirement, then they will fail. If they fail the subsequent check, then that character will be dropped from the Masterlist. Failed characters do not get the money bonuses from the Activity Check. Instead, they will only be awarded 500G and whatever expenses that applies to them (rent, commuter’s pass). Hopefully you’ll be able to keep up with your activity next go-round!
If you are a new arrival to the group (as in, you’ve joined during this activity period), then you will automatically pass. Additionally, if you are a new arrival and have made TWO RP POSTS, then you will get full benefits of the check. If not, your character’s name will have a star next to it, and they will only get 1,000G for passing. This only applies to new arrivals that have been here for a majority of the activity period. If your character has joined in the week of the activity check, they will also be allowed full benefits. This is applicable for people with hiatuses, as well— if you get off of hiatus and/or report back in within the week of the activity check, you will also be allowed a pass.
Here are the most recent community updates and announcements!
Please be sure to read the results below, and, if you’ve passed, apply these money changes to your bank account (via an activity marker post tagged as #pi:money and #pi:activity) according to which ones apply to your specific character.

December 30th Activity Check
It’s been two weeks and the next activity check is here! In order to pass, your character must have FOUR ROLEPLAY POSTS. These are in-character posts with a roleplay component, such as about a paragraph’s worth of IC text. Music and artwork posts do not count toward this. If your character has not met this requirement, then they fail the check. If they fail the subsequent activity check, then they will be dropped.
If you are on hiatus, your muses are immune to this check.
For New Arrivals, a bolded name means you did not pass the regular requirements of the check.
The next activity check is Saturday, January 13th!
Details are below the cut! Any questions, please contact the mod.

Alex Young
Chef Owner, The Standard Bistro & Larder Ann Arbor, Michigan The Standard Bistro & Larder The Frame
Alex Young is an award-winning chef and the owner of The Standard Bistro & Larder, a new Parisian-style bistro in Ann Arbor, Michigan, slated to open its doors in late January 2018. The Standard will feature regional French foods and custom butchery, including classic entrees pot-au-feu, pan bagnat, Alsatian choucroute garni, pissaladiere, and ravioli bolognese. Prior to this, Alex served as founder, chef, and managing partner of Zingerman’s Roadhouse in Ann Arbor for over 15 years. A James Beard Foundation award-winner in the Best Chefs in America category, Alex traveled to the James Beard American Restaurant at the World’s Fair in Milan, Italy, in 2015, showcasing American food. In an earlier post, he served as first corporate chef of the Hilton Restaurant Group. For three evenings, on December 1, 2, and 3, 2017, Alex will transform Frame, of Hazel Park, Michigan, into a Parisian Bistro with an eight-course preview of The Standard. He resides in Pinckney, Michigan, with his German Shepherd, Sadie, by the lake.

FAVORITES
Book:  The Way To Cook, by Julia Child
Destination:  The beach
Motto:  Do it with pride, style, and joy.
Prized possession: My hands
THE QUERY
Where were you born?
I was born in London, England, and raised on the coast of northern California.
What were some of the passions/pastimes of your earlier years?
I liked to ski, ride mountain bikes, and seek out great food.
How did you begin to realize your intrigue with the culinary arts?
By the age of 11 (1976), it was clear that pleasing people with food made me happy.
What is your earliest memory of food as an experience?
It was my mother’s spaghetti bolognese.
When and how did you make your entry into the profession?
At the age of 17, I moved to New York City and worked as a busboy at the Central Falls Restaurant in Soho. While there, I learned that the kitchen needed a hand, so I volunteered and landed my first cooking job. From there, I worked in several different kitchens throughout the country, helping to open New York’s China Grill with Chef Mako Tenaka; working for Chef Reed Heron at San Francisco’s Corona Bar and Grill; and opening The Pittsburgh Fish Market in Pennsylvania.
What led to your coming on board with Zingerman’s Roadhouse in 2003?
I wanted to make great food, and stay in Southeast Michigan at the same time, where my family lives. I happened to meet Ari Weinzweig and Paul Saginaw, founders and managing partners of Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, through a mutual friend. Not long after, I called Ari to begin a conversation about the possibility of a new restaurant within the Zingerman's Community that would focus solely on great American food. I had an idea in mind, so I introduced the concept for Zingerman's Roadhouse to the partners, and planning and building began. It was only a matter of months before we opened our doors.
What did you enjoy most about your tenure at the Roadhouse?
Working with so many really wonderful people.
How did this post segue into your launch of the Roadhouse Farm, now an 18-acre farm in Dexter, Michigan, just eight miles from the Roadhouse?
My passion for local agriculture and farming steered me to launch the Roadhouse Farm, which now grows more than 50 varietals of vegetables, bringing the farm-to-table dining experience to life in Southeast Michigan. Educating the staff, patrons, community, and local students on the importance of farming and knowing where food comes from, I earned the honor of being among the founding 12 top chefs from around the country named to the James Beard Chef Action Network.
When and how did the concept for The Standard Bistro & Larder take seed?
I wanted to return to my first love (and idol in Julia Child) of French cooking in opening a whole new restaurant. We began brainstorming the concept in 2016. The idea was for the restaurant to feature regional French foods, and custom butchery available over a retail butcher counter. The decor is reminiscent of the 1930s Parisian bistro, with hand-painted tile, a beautiful wood ceiling, and artwork created by my father, Alfred Young.
What is the guiding philosophy of The Standard?
To set a new standard in regional French cuisine.
Is there an entrée on the menu that you are especially proud of?
Pot-au-feu. This is a traditional French boiled beef entrée, made with our custom beef, and boiled in broth that we cook in perpetuity. The taste is very delicious and deep.
What types of wine will you feature at The Standard?
Our wine list explores the French terroir and cocktails grounded in the history of classic French liqueurs and seasonal ingredients. For example, we'll feature wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne; and a host of cocktails, including variations on the French 75, Side Car, and Vieux Carre.
What can customers find at the artisanal butcher counter situated at the restaurant?
Our Larder represents the height of old-world butchery, offering dry, aged, and custom cut beef, pork, and lamb, along with classic charcuterie and our house made pastas, breads, and take-home dishes.
How did you get involved with the Child Nutrition Act?
Working with the James Beard Chef Action Network, I marched on Capitol Hill to lobby for re-authorization of the Child Nutrition Act; the reduction of overuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture; as well as the overuse of genetically engineered plants. I also routinely visit K-12 public schools to help educate young people on the benefits of whole food vs. processed foods; hold farm tours; and speak at the University of Michigan on food policy.
How has your aesthetic/approach evolved over the years?
I used to lean toward fancy concoctions. Now, it’s all about simplicity and authenticity.
What three tools of the trade can’t you live without?
Japanese fish tweezers, nine-inch tongs, and my hands.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Repetition equals excellence.
What drives you these days?
The desire to build a great home in the new Standard Bistro & Larder.

WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND February 15, 2019  - HAPPY DEATH DAY 2 U, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, ISN’T IT ROMANTIC
Well, it looks like I’ve already gotten myself into a bind trying to write two movie columns a week, and unfortunately, this one can only be written as my time allows. It’s President’s Day weekend, incorporating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, with three new wide releases hitting theatres either on Weds or Thursday hoping to grab some early biz before the long weekend.
Also, a reminder that if you want to read my box office analysis and predictions, you can find those over at The Beat later today. (My box office preview column will post around 9:30AM on Weds.)
Tumblr media
HAPPY DEATH DAY 2 U (Universal)
Written and directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day,Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) Cast: Jessica Rothe, Rudy Modine, Israel Broussard, Rachel Matthews, Suraj Sharma, Phi Vu, Charles Aitken MPAA Rating: PG-13
The movie with the best bet of succeeding this weekend is the sequel to Universal and Blumhouse Pictures’ 2017 hit Happy Death Day with director Christopher Landon, Jessica Rothe and the rest of the cast returning… and returning… and returning. The horror version of Bill Murray’s Groundhog’s Day featured a mostly-unknown cast of young actors, including Jessica Rothe, who is destined to be a superstar, and all of them return for this sequel, which ups the ante on the original’s high-concept premise. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to see the movie before opening – I plan on going Wednesday afternoon – but I really enjoyed the first movie, and I expect the sequel to be more of the same i.e. obvious but funny and not necessarily as gory as a slasher movie like this might normally be.
ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL (20thCentury Fox)
Directed by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Sin City, Predators, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Desperado and many more) Written by James Cameron, Laeta Kalogridis, Robert Rodriguez Cast: Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, Keann Johnson, Lana Condor, Eiza Gonzalez MPAA Rating:  PG-13
Next up is an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s popular Manga series which premiered way back in 1990 and has been a passion project for Titanic and Avatar director James Cameron to make for almost as long.  It’s definitely interesting to see Cameron work with a young upstart (by comparison) like Rodriguez, who has built quite a solid industry out of his Austin-based Troublemaker Studios, but I’m not sure if American moviegoers are nearly as gung-ho about the collaboration. The cast is generally solid with The Maze Runner star Rosa Salazar getting the title role, joined by Oscar-caliber actors like Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly and Mahershala Ali, as well as newcomer Keann Johnson. Blink and you might miss the heavily CG-ed Ed Skrein, Lana Condor, Eiza Gonzalez and Jackie Earle Haley – I think he plays the Dogmaster. Reviews have generally been mixed but I really didn’t like it much at all (see my review below) and I’m not sure if moviegoers will feel too differently, as this is going to be a divisive movie. I’m not even sure if and how fans of the Manga will enjoy seeing it brought to life, but that’s really going to be seen for sure after its extended opening weekend that runs from Thursday through Monday.
My Review of Alita
Another Piece I Wrote About Alita
ISN’T IT ROMANTIC (New Line/WB)
Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson (The Final Girls, A VeryHarold and Kumar 3D Christmas) Written by Erin Cardillo, Dana Fox, Katie Silberman Cast: Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine, Jennifer Saunders, Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin, Jennifer Saunders MPAA Rating: PG-13
Last but not least, especially with this week’s Valentine’s Hallmark Holiday on Thursday, is this unconventional romantic comedy that acts almost as a satire of the medium without going into Date Movie territory. It’s another chance for the very funny Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine, both from the Pitch Perfect movies, to break out on their own after mainly playing supporting roles in other comedies. Devine at least has a fanbase from his Comedy Central show Workaholics, and he’s had more featured roles in movies like Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, but this movie has more of an opportunity to reach young lovers and the date night crowd than the other two movies. I probably won’t review this, but I generally liked it quite a bit. I thought it was quite clever and funny in a snarky way that the kids seem to like and really its only straight competition is last week’s What Men Want.
LIMITED RELEASES
Tumblr media
Not a ton of limited releases this weekend thankfully, but one of the big ones is the New York and L.A. release of Stephen Merchant’s FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY (MGM), a comedic biopic about WWE Superstar Paige, as played by Florence Pugh (Lady MacBeth) and also starring Jack Lowden, Nick Frost, Lena Headey, Vince Vaughn and Dwayne Johnson, who also produced the film along with WWE Films.  It follows the story of how Paige and her brother Zak (Lowden) have dreams of becoming WWE superstars, coming from a family of wrestlers, and Paige’s struggles to fit in at the NXT training camp with Vaughn playing her tough coach. Johnson produced the film along with WWE Films, and he makes a couple brief apperances as himself. It’s a fun movie that I really enjoyed. You can read my full review below, and then look for my interview with Paige over at VitalThrills.com.

Another pleasant surprise for the weekend is RUBEN BRANDT, COLLECTOR (Sony Pictures Classics), Slovenian filmmaker Milorad Krstic’s amazing animated feature centered around the title character, Ruben Brandt, a psychotherapist who has been having nightmares involving 13 famous paintings, so he puts together a band of art thieves (actual pieces of art who are also criminals) to steal some of the greatest artworks in the world. He quickly earns a reputation as “The Collector,” and a group of insurance companies hire private detective Mike Kowalski to get the art back.  I didn’t really know what to expect when I saw this movie a few weeks back, and the premise and characters are so bizarre, that it took me some time to adjust to the pace, but there’s some really cool stuff on display here including a number of action setpieces right out of Mission: Impossible or The Fast and the Furious, but all animated with a unique style that reminded me about what I loved about Terry Gilliam’s animation on Monty Python’s Flying Circus. If you’re a fan of animation and/or looking for something different this weekend, this is what I recommend.
Opening in New York Friday at the Quad Cinema and on VOD is Tim Sutton’s DONNYBROOK  (IFC Films), based on the novel by Frank Bill, in which Jamie Bell plays Jarhead Earl, who wants to keep his family together, so he robs a gun shop and goes on the road with his son to enter a legendary bare-knuckle brawl called Donnybrook, in which the winner gets $100,000. On his trail is drugdealer Chainsaw Angus, played by Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), and Angus’ sister (Margaret Qualley).  (FYI, Sutton will be at select screenings at the Quad.)
Opening on Weds at New York’s Film Forum and at several L.A. theaters on Friday is BIRDS OF PASSAGE  (The Orchard), Colombia’s Oscar entry directed by Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra (Embrace of the Serpent). It’s an amazing story set in the rural Colombian drug trade over the course of several decades. The winner of three Colombian Fenix Film Awards, Birds of Passageopened the Directors’ Fortnight at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and has played a number of major festivals since then. It’s a really strong film that showcases the indigenous Wayuu tribe based in the rural area of Colombia who get involved with the drug trade as a way to survive financially. It focuses primarily on the growing feud between two families and the plight of a young man named Rapayet to get out of the drug trade once he’s pulled into it in order to afford the dowry for his beautiful bride.  It’s another great-looking film but one that feels a little more contemporary than Guerra’s previous film even though it takes place between the ‘60s and ‘80s and could actually be viewed as a companion film to Tom Cruise’s American Madein the sense that it shows the very beginnings of the drug journey to the States.
Opening Friday at Lincoln Center is Hong Sang-soo’s Hotel by the River  (Cinema Guild), which played at the New York Film Festival last year. It involves two intersecting tales, one about an old poet who calls his estranged sons to be by his side as he reaches the end, and the other about a young woman with a broken heart.
Ryan Reynolds narrates the IMAX documentary Great Bear Rainforest: Land of the Spirit Bear, which opens solely in IMAX screens on Friday. It’s a movie about the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada where resides the rare all-white spirit bear, and the indigenous First Nations tribe.
Dog lovers who didn’t get enough canine cuteness with A Dog’s Way Home can also catch the dog movie Patrick (Screen Media), written and directed by Mandy Fletcher (Absolutely Fabulous), which will open in select cities and VOD Friday. It revolves around a young woman named Sarah Francis (Beattie Edmonson) whose life is a mess even before her grandmother (played by her real-life mother Jennifer Saunders, who is also in Isn’t It Romantic) bequeathes her spoiled pug Patrick to her. It also stars Ed Skrein (also in Alita), Gemma Jones and Emily Atack.
STREAMING
The only new movie streaming on Netflix this Friday is the New Zealand comedy The Breaker Upperers, written and directed by Madeleine Sami and Jackie van Beek, who also star as BFFs Jen and Mel who get paid for ending romances, although their own relationship is put to the test when one of gets a conscience about what they’re doing.
As far as series, Netflix is debuting the new series The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic series by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Ba, this Friday. Meanwhile, on DC Universe’s streaming platform, the new Doom Patrol will premiere, and that’s a pretty crazy bit of counter-programming.
Not exactly “streaming” but Tina Brown and Dyana Winkler’s doc United Skates will premiere on HBO on Monday the 18th. I saw this at the Tribeca Film Festival last year where it won the Audience Award for documentary, and it’s won many other festival audience awards. It looks at the vanishing world of roller rinks and the “adult nights” that brought many of the African-American communities together in cities in North Carolina and California, but one that’s quickly fading away.

2019 Ford Mustang RTR Stage 2 Rumors and Price
New Post has been published on http://www.autocarns.com/2019-ford-mustang-rtr-stage-2-rumors-and-price/
2019 Ford Mustang RTR Stage 2 Rumors and Price
2019 Ford Mustang RTR Stage 2 Rumors and Price – Thick clouds of tire smoke and feverish electronica just recently wafted more than Lengthy Beach right after the party that is Method Drift invaded the city’s fantastic Prix circuit. Now, the skies are crystal clear, Skrillex’s heavy largemouth bass droplets are a thing of the previous, and a salty breeze bears the appears to be of Indy cars through the stands. But our attention isn’t on the nail-biting race among Alexander Rossi, James Hinchcliffe, and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Quite, it is on the tips for the 2019 Ford Mustang RTR Period 2, beckoning us to strike its clutch system and do what its inventor meant: atomizer wheels.
Mustang aficionados may not recognize the RTR nameplate. A favorite accessory for Ford’s catalog, RTR is the brainchild of Ford Performance’s professional drifter, Vaughn Gittin Jr. By RTR’s goal assertion, the Mustang RTR “was built from the ground-up to enhance the Ford Mustang way of living with modern day aggressive style and neighborhood analyzed, track-confirmed performance qualities.” A handful of will question this car is intense in individuality; based on AUTOMOBILE senior citizen copy editor Kara Snowfall, it is “a pink and crimson mohawk amongst a water of person buns.”
2019 Ford Mustang RTR Stage 2 Redesign
To the point, the RTR’s styling cues mimic Gittin Jr.’s Method Drift race car. It’s reduced and imply with sharp aspects accentuating the Mustang’s already hostile posture. There is a new entrance fascia comprised of a lower and upper component and an established of distinctive, triangular Directed grille lamps that finish the car’s antagonistic front end. At the rear, there is a new diffuser accented by a RTR-labeled deck lid panel and a new spoiler. Completing the Mustang’s change, RTR gave the car an established of 20-inch RTR-built Technical 7 rims that fill up the Mustang’s tire arches thanks to a set up of RTR lowering springs and 2-way adjustable dampers. But do not feel of the Mustang RTR as mainly just a body set. This car obtains a variety of performance enhancements that transform an already skilled performer into a wicked equipment intended to create smoke screens out of its sticky Nitto 555 Gen 2 tires. The most noticeable customization: a dosage of negative camber. It’s slight, not practically as embellished as the sum work by lovers in the “stance” traditions, or the requirements run using proper specialist drift competition cars, but it’s enough to catch your interest right away and have an effect on the car’s managing.
On-center steering seems hazier than it will in the stock Mustang GT. Although it does not have a lot perform like a 1965 Mustang, it will take a minute for the controls, to begin with loading up. This is absolutely nothing severe, nevertheless, in today’s modern day cars where directing is instant, this attribute is perceptible. An inch away on-center and the vagueness recedes, delivering the road’s imperfections to your convenience. Continue to keep turning, and the added camber, sticky Nittos, and strategy revocation items permit the car’s front side-conclusion grasp the road like a rock climber scaling the Lavish Tetons without having a rope. RTR’s two-way adjustable dampers make up the mass of the suspension adjustments. Nevertheless, the team also upgraded to adaptable sway pubs front and rear that allow the proprietor tune for neutral handling, understeer, or oversteer. As it is situated, the Mustang is set-up to oversteer and offer the most wheel-shredding practical experience readily available.
Beneath the hood, you discover the same 5.-liter DOHC V-8 as in the Mustang GT. Even though for more oomph, RTR reflashed the stock Mustang’s ECU and equipped it with a new axle-rear exhaust that lumps horse power from the standard 435 as much as 472 – a lot to give up the 275-thickness rear car tires. Sadly, traffic out of Lengthy Seaside after the IndyCar race was over and above atrocious, and there was no room to open up up the faucets and let the car dance. Lastly, in downtown Los Angeles, between the deserted business estates and damaged properties final in operation in the course of the Reagan management, I was able to let the RTR away its chain, a minimum of for a brief minute.
Graffiti starting from gang exercise to gorgeous artworks apparently includes the area’s every surface area. Damaged containers, rubbish, totes, as well as other garbage litter the roadside. Not a heart and soul is of view. Despite the fact that deserted, body fat, black strakes of dissolved silicone ran the duration of the highway, the evidence I wasn’t the only one who had suggestions of wheel smoking cigarettes. With a swift kick to the clutch system, proper feet stapled to the fuel pedal; the rear wheels illuminate immediately. The new exhaust growls with a menace lacking in the regular Mustang GT. The tone is much deeper, more resonant, much like its GT350 brethren. Mustangs usually seem to look better with a new exhaust, which one particular is no different. And as the wheels shriek, the car’s rear starts to slide left, as well as for a short time I allow the steering wheel go, allowing the car to pivot sideways into an alley.
Unlike various other RWD performance cars that can be skittish when sliding. The Mustang RTR can make you think you could control the vehicle sufficient to be front door to front door, wheel to wheel with Gittin, Ryan Tuerck, or Chelsea DeNofa on the streets of Extended Seashore in the course of the Formula Drift levels of competition. Sleek and smoky transitions are a breeze, and the very lazy torque from the reflashed, naturally aspirated V-8 is progressive and enables the driver to modulate the throttle while keeping the rears from rotating too fast to take care of. It is simple and completely manageable.
The cabin, nonetheless, is possibly the only level of contention. It’s bone tissue stock, which just does not suit the rest of the car’s appearance. Whereas the outside screams “I’m a competition car!” the interior screams, “I’m a rental car!” The seats are the reduced-expense, no-container alternative. The controls are stock and jumbled with too many switches, a problem with nearly every Ford. The infotainment center’s look leaves something to be desired. The external evokes a weak ass, caged race car, but there’s absolutely nothing inside of other than a commemorative oral plaque conveying this car’s specialness. It might be fun to see a Momo, Grip Noble, or some other suede aftermarket controls, a set of setback Sparco or Recaro seats, plus a recommended hydraulic handbrake with a big, machined-aluminum lever. Although nothing of this would be useful, it would raise this package.
Continue to, with a fast downshift and a sharp throttle stab, the interior’s letdowns fade away in a cloud of tire smoke cigarettes and Coyote-orchestrated noise. But the Mustang RTR is not just a drift-happy lunatic. When heading to carve canyons, even in this much more tail-swinging environment, its balance is outstanding – as extended as you temper your right foot. The new springs and dampers are soft enough to absorb mid-part undulations, although adequately inflexible to help keep all four make contact with areas stuck to the pavement – as opposed to Gittin’s Formulation D car which has the habit of obtaining the inside of front side wheel.
2019 Ford Mustang RTR Stage 2 Engine
When you finally chose to open things wide up down long straights, the Mustang RTR’s longer gearing is suitable nicely for added-legitimate rates. In this article, when getting the up the coming year at 7,000 rpm, the reflashed Coyote V-8 sings, its melodious baritone resonating via the exhaust. A less heavy flywheel would additionally be a delightful addition to speed would build a little quicker. The lazy velocity in tight sides allows you to control the throttle a lot more accurately while not having to shift lower or up and upsetting the car’s equilibrium.
2019 Ford Mustang RTR Stage 2 Price and Release Date
Brass tacks, the Mustang RTR Spec 2 package costs $11,950 installed, and that’s on top of the $33,195 a standard V-8 Mustang GT fetches. But contemplating you are acquiring a drift-set up car completely from the factory, with a warranty and the capacity to be repaired by any Ford seller, it’s a wonder RTR is not asking much more for the adjustments.
This car may not have the brand cachet of a Shelby or the existence and performance of a Roush or Saleen. But for the car owner who desires a V-8-powered drift car with all the being conveniences of a company-new automobile and not a ratty, perpetually damaged Nissan S13, the Mustang RTR strikes all the correct remarks. What is better is that you do not require ten yrs of drift experience to have this car sliding and shredding tires, though you need to get a tad of education and learning first – possibly consider a Drift 101 school – just before you start off scraping wall space.
