The Power and the Glory: Life in the English Country House Before the Great War by Adrian Tinniswood
US pub date - 11/12/24
As a North American who’s fairly obsessed with history, European history has held my attention in an incomparable way. The “English Country House” wasn’t something I grew up learning about, but has become a topic of much interest to me. Therefore, I was thankful to receive a copy of The Power and the Glory: Life in the English Country House Before the Great War and was very impressed by Mr Tinniswood’s writing talent and ability to make nonfiction read more like fiction, and engaging fiction at that.
I enjoyed my reading of this and learned a lot - it was my second time reading the author’s work and I will definitely be reading more.
Recommended to readers of English history, royal history, and/or classics from the time.
Thank you to Basic Books and NetGalley for the DRC

Tarot for Creativity: A Guide for Igniting Your Creative Practice by Chelsey Pippin Mizzi US pub date - 10/1/24
I loved the idea of this prior to starting it - I’m still recently out of the worst depression of my life and during this period, I lost all my creative urges / drive and it saddens me that creativity, which was such a natural state for me,  no longer seems to be. Therefore, I wanted to read this, to see if I could (hopefully) kickstart my creativity with this guide.
The book is well written, and The layout is clean with the card pages in bright, vivid colors. The text goes into the creativity behind each card, gives examples of spreads, offers prompts and exercises.
I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to read an early copy of Tarot for Creativity: I was impressed and pleased during my reading  - it’s comprehensive with suggestions and exercises that are easy to put into practice. I really found a lot within the pages, and it’s a title I’ll be getting for my own bookshelf.

Treasures of Ancient Egypt by Nigel Fletcher-Jones
US pub date - 9/14/24
During the tour of Tutankhamun in the late 70’s my mother went with my stepfather on a date before they were married and she brought home a hardcover copy of ‘Treasures of Tutankhamun’, so from the time I was a very little girl, I would pore over the photos in that book and be awed. As a result, perhaps, I’ve always been very interested in ancient Egyptian history.
Having the opportunity to read this, I will say that the photos included are among the most wonderful I’ve seen. History is interspersed between the vivid photographs and engaging to read.
Would be an excellent choice for history lovers as well as homeschooling unit studies.

Mythos: The Illustrated Edition by Stephen Fry, illustrated by Jesús Sotés
US pub date - 9/3/24
I have this series on audiobook (we ❤️ Stephen Fry in our family) and when I saw this illustrated edition on NetGalley, I immediately knew that this was one I wanted to see.
The absolutely beautiful, vividly lush illustrations add much to an already amazing and beloved book.
A recommendation for fans of Fry’s, Greek mythology, or gorgeous books that are also wonderfully fun (and funny) to read.

Showcasing thirty different palaces, castles, and homes, this book is full of beautiful, vividly colored illustrations and, yes, secrets and scandals both, written in an accessible style. The result is a gorgeous book that’s highly readable.
The Royal Palaces: Secrets and Scandals would make a wonderful addition to any royalist’s home; this coffee table book is a highly enjoyable and fantastic read.

Prairie Man: My Little House Life & Beyond by Dean Butler
US pub date - 6/25/24
.
.
I just celebrated my 51st birthday. Growing up in North America, by the time I was 7, I had moved away from my grandparents’ house, my place of safety with the people who made me feel most safe and secure, to a new house with my mother and a brand new stepfather and started watching Little House on the Prairie. My stepfather bought me the book series so I was able to read the early books while stepping into viewing a well established series. I loved the books at that point in time and I adored the series which was a soothing balm to my young, anxious self.
.
You can understand why I wanted to read this, I’m sure.
.
Beginning with two separate forwards (Melissa Gilbert “Laura Ingalls Wilder” and Alison Arngrim “Nellie Olson”), Mr Butler delves into his life and legacy role and succeeds in coming off as one of the sincerest and kindest people in Hollywood.
.
I really enjoyed reading this memoir and recommend to fans of Dean Butler, Little House on the Prairie, and the autobiographies and memoirs of the actors of the show.
