it's pretty much accepted if Kratos and Freya have any more children they have daughters, Hnoss and Gersemi... but did ya'll know Loki in the Norse myths had brothers? Me either.

This is from the Prose Edda, and hi?? So Atreus can have some little brothers now.

I just beat the 2018 God of War and it is amazing. I only played the first game back in 2005 and a bit of the second game, but I know the basic plot of the original trilogy. Kratos as a character never really appealed to me and the plot is a fanfiction of Greek mythology but was fine. The draw of the games was combat, which was very fun and I preferred it to another series being released at the time, Devil May Cry.

I heard rave reviews about the new God of War and was very pleasantly surprised to see how much it deserves the accolades. I've stated many times much of my love is in the environments, and it fulfills much of my itche. It's very visually attractive, and the different realms all have a completely different feel that you can appreciate. I particularly loved walked around the central chamber with Yggdrasil, staring at the different etchings on the walls depicting the realms. (Did you know Midgard was missing from there, and the door you walk through I believe is Vanaheim?)

As I said I didn't play III so I can't attest to how gameplay developed, but combat is greatly surperior and very fun. I'm a barely-competent gamer but it was still great trying out all the different moves, and I screamed in delight once the blades of chaos were reintroduced. The studio kept puzzles as well so it didn't become a monotonous blur, and there were involved world-building sidequests with rewarding prizes.

But the real treat is Kratos and Artreus. You don't have to play the original trilogy for this, but I don't think you can fully appreciate Kratos without doing so. As I stated before, I didn't particularly care for him because he was really one-dimensional and his type of hyper-masculine personality didn't click with me. Here you can see how he runs up against a wall when dealing with his son. He is a person of his time with a terrible, daunting past, so he remains the laconic man's man, but he has to change in order to raise Atreus well and not lose him. Their interactions, as well as with Brok, Sindri, and Mimir, were a true and complete delight. The only weird part was Artreus' personality turn around upon discovering his heritage, but otherwise the flow of conversation and growth for the two of them makes this game totally worth playing. Five stars, 100% recommend.

Oh I was thinking about something and, for the people who were disappointed that Fenrir and Jormungandr weren’t Artreus and Angrboda’s biological kids. I’m pretty sure they’re going to combine Angrboda and Sigyn into one character (Sigyn means “friend of victory” so I think it will get the Frigg treatment and be made into a title, given how well that fits Angrboda) in the mythos, Loki and Sigyn have two sons. Very VERY little is known about then

Except that one of them is cursed by Odin to turn into a monstrous wolf

And the other, like I said very little is known about them, so you have creative freedom to do anything. Like, perhaps, make him REALLY into snakes

I've got God of war worms in my brain......when Thor and kratos are fighting for the first time in ragnorok & thor is so intent on paying the blood debt so when you inevitably die THOR REVIVES YOU WITH THE MJOLNIR . (Like a diffebrillator)

I also love fenrir and the world serpent and all the time travel and soul shenanigans. And I love artreus learning to control his powers and TURN INTO A BEAR........

Anyways atreus left at the end of that game (which. Made me cry. I'm ughjfhehshs. Over it.) And I think what's going to happen next is kratos is going to return to Greece which raises some questions like are the next games following artreus / loki? Or are they centering kratos unfucking the situation he caused.

But also like the mental image of kratos being sad sitting at a fire . Like. My boy. Making to much porridge because he was expecting his little guy. :( he's an empty nester now!!!

Alsoo I love gow 4 and how scared kratos was of artreus finding out who they are and that they're God's and then later on in ragnorok when artreus knows it's like. His motivation. I also love drunk artreus . & nowadays i love that he knows he's a giant & so now he has to leave and start his own quest

& also I love gow 3 . Murder Murder Murder Murder. Do you think we're doing the right thing here really? Nah we're gonna have to to kill this guy. Murder Murder Murder. (Gets stabbed) & that kratos does such an amazing job of plunging Greece into plauge and darkness and just. Pal... where do we go from here......

hrhrgh. And don't get me started on kratos loosing his wife and daughter and then having a new wife and son and then. Telling Freya about the old wife and daughter and .... dead wife syndrome the man I love him so much.

God of War Ragnarok is a Very Good Game and i dont want to imply otherwise but

There is something (spoilery) I gotta complain about

They made it a little too obvious that Kratos was going to survive Ragnarok, and the finale kinda loses a bit of its punch because of that?

Like, one of the "oh damn" moments at the end of the previous game is the hidden mural showing Kratos lying there dead. This drives Kratos to push Artreus' training during fimbulwinter - to prepare Artreus to live without him. When Artreus finds out that there was a piece hidden from the Jötenheim shrine he didn't see, and it was of Kratos lying dead... that is a real source of tension in the story? Both of them know that Kratos is fated to die, but neither of them know the other one knows that. Artreus wants to fight fate to save his father, Kratos wants to make sure Artreus is going to be okay when this happens and he still doesn't think Artreus IS ready.

Then "Kratos will die" is reinforced by the visit to the Norns. They make it very very very clear - hes going to die. Theres not any way out of this. He. Will. Die.

Every piece of prophecy finds itself fulfilled on the gangs quest to avoid the prophecy happening. It starts to feel like Kratos' death really is inevitable.....

.... But the actual game itself? Theres an optional boss you literally can't reach before the final mission. Theres a side quest you got 20 hours ago that can't be finished until the game is over (I looked up a guide to finish it before the final quest, and it instantly went "yeah cant finish it until after the story is done"). Theres tonnes of "undiscovered" on the map for each realm and literally no other quests to discover. And even if you think "well we must swap to Artreus POV for the post-game" .... Artreus never sees any of the upgrades that Kratos does. Every time you upgrade Kratos' health or rage meter, Artreus' stays the same. Not to mention that Artreus' armour is purely aesthetic, with no upgrades available. And if the optional bosses are anything like the previous games ones... you need all the upgrades you can get to tackle all of them, especially the final one. You cant be playing as Artreus post-game...

Hell, the game doesn't even hint that "hey this is the final mission, go wrap everything up that you want to wrap up" that strongly? In the previous game, it was verrryy obvious. This game... less so.

It becomes very clear that Kratos will still be playable once the story is over. And that there is new content to play after the story is over. Sure, the game could boot you back before that mission. Except... whats all these "undiscovered"s on the map then?

And i would have liked to go into the finale with a doubt in my mind as to whether Kratos would make it through, rather than being 99% certain. The finale mission is a lot of fun, and a spectacle at times, but it lacked an emotional punch because it felt like Kratos was never really in danger during it. And i think it would have been a lot stronger had it felt like Kratos was in serious danger?
