Artist of the Week!
My first artist of the week, where I dig out an artists’ business card and tell you about them!
Today’s artist is Raspbi!
https://www.raspbi.com/
I didn’t meet them personally, but was gifted one of their lovely Huntlow acrylic standees by my lovely bf, because he knows I think Hunter and Willow are both so cute! And they are!
Tumblr media
Right now Raspbi’s catalogue includes Owl House, South Park, Pokemon, BNHA, Bluey, and some Zelda and Splatoon! I especially like this cute enamel pin of WW Link and Makar! Hopefully I’ll have one for my pin banner eventually, because Makar is a sweet boy.
Tumblr media
If you like these, please go check Raspbi out!

It was my first time touring the Quezon City Sports Plaza. The building's distinctive Y-shaped structure was a standout design from the 1970s by Arch. William Vargas Coscolluela, a well-known architect in the Philippines, who was also recognized in many other countries for his designs of commercial projects. I inadvertently found a wall sculpture by Eduardo Castrillo called "The Purification of Physical Being" on the second-floor lobby wall across from the reception desk. A perfect theme for the sports-focused area, the emotive piece, finished in 1979, represented the purification of the mind and body via exercise. The sculpture served as a moving remembrance of a time when art in the Philippines was vital to architectural definition, filled with meaning, principles, and fundamentals as opposed to merely production, consumerism, and methods. The many other artworks in the plaza evoked memories of the past and spoke to the place's rich cultural significance and history. It serves as a powerful reminder of the pivotal role that art and architecture can play in shaping cultural identity. Creating settings that capture the spirit of our country for future generations to appreciate and take pride in is the challenge we face today as we work to promote Filipino culture and heritage. Remember the era in which art was integral to architectural design and served as a means to unite communities and celebrate national identity. To ensure that we continue to preserve our rich culture and heritage for future generations, let's work to cultivate these principles in the present. #quezoncitysportsplaza #quezoncity #coscolluela #castrillo #sports #sportscenter #heritage #filipino #interiorarchitecture #architecture_greatshots #heritagearchitecture #filipinostyle #architect #culture #art #architecture #artwork #artoftheday #originalart #artwalk #artistphotography #artistoftheweek #beautiful #architecturelife #architectureandpeople #philippines — view on Instagram https://scontent-lga3-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t39.30808-6/350116158_765531458452647_4512037363322563523_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=8ae9d6&_nc_ohc=08LQLUKtdpEAX_GxJfp&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.cdninstagram.com&edm=ANo9K5cEAAAA&oh=00_AfAVgQZ6I3LCnupo1rJchQ0AEWAC13s2oThY-4tymLTX3g&oe=647B8DFF

Weekly Studio Spotlight - Matthew Johnson
Tumblr media
This week, we chatted with the amazing Matthew Johnson. We got to know all about his art, his career & his favourite meal 😁We hope you enjoy this week’s interview, if you do, please do support the posts on our socials too 💛
What are your biggest inspirations?
Landscape and nature. I love illustrating what's around me and things I've seen. Every time I go for a walk on the coast, I see enough things to keep me busy for months.

How did you start your career in the art industry?
I worked at a music packaging specialist whose offices were nearby. It was great because I love music and record covers, and I learnt lots of technical stuff about printing.

What is your favourite piece you have created so far?
St Anthony Pines - it's the view from one of my favourite places in Cornwall and seems to be a special location for lots of other people too.
What art tools could you not live without?
The main things I use for my work are a computer, a scanner, Adobe Illustrator, acrylic paint, black ink Pentel brush pen, cartridge paper and mechanical pencils. But I think as long as I had pencils and paper, I'd be happy.

What is your biggest challenge with your work?
Colour! I love colour but I always find choosing the colour scheme the hardest part.
Would you rather live by a forest or by the sea?
Definitely the sea - I live in Cornwall, a few minutes from the beach, and I'd never want to leave.

What is your favourite time of year / season?
Late spring when the trees have fresh leaves on, the sea is warming up and the whole summer lies ahead.
What is the best thing you've ever purchased?
A very dear friend left me some money in her will, and I used it to buy a nice bicycle and a nice guitar. With those two things around I have never been stuck or bored!
Do you have any advice for people wanting to succeed as an artist?
I am still working on it, so I'm probably not the best person to ask... but I think success is probably making the art that you want to make. Nobody is going to invite you to do that - you have to look for opportunities and exploit them for yourself. I also think that successful artists have been able to carve out space in their life to make art. For that you need to be in a lucky situation or make some bold and clever life choices.

What is your favourite song / album to listen to at the moment?
I'm a big fan of Peggy Gou... been listening to her new song "I Go" a lot this week. Also "160 down the A406" by Sherelle, which sounds better every time I listen to it.
What makes you most happy in life?
Swimming in the sea with my wife.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Noodle stir fry
