Do you have any idea why they decided to put live in Chicago on Spotify and not live in denver? I was listening to them both today and thought that both brendon and Ryan's vocals were alot better in denver than Chicago?
I know nothing about Spotify or how the music industry works or anything. I am still grumbly about the entire concept of streaming services and the fact that my new car doesn't play cds.
But yeah Live in Denver was a reflection of the Fever era, which was extremely engineered & polished. Matt Squire mixed Live in Denver, so I think that maybe helped it fit the sound of AFYCSO. The band's second album went in a totally different direction in many ways, but one of the core concepts they kept returning to was how they wanted things to sound real and organic, like there was an actual band playing with flaws & everything (see the "recording live as a band" section). The vocals in Live in Chicago reflect their approach during that second era. They wanted to keep their flaws this time instead of fixing them.
Spencer did an interview with ARTISTdirect about Live in Chicago and said:
Audio-wise, we went back and forth with the mixes. Our touring sound guy, Jason, mixed it. He had his little Pro-Tools rig hooked up. We'd come in backstage before we played and adjust the mixes with him. I'm glad it came out as well as it did. If it sounds to you like it's real, then that's the best thing for it.
When they started doing live show recordings, there was a big question: "Is it cool to go back and add things after the show?" The general consensus was, "Yeah, everybody does it," but they don't really say anything about it. Then you do hear some live records where it's amazing how "produced" they sound. It sounds like the band could've just been in some big, empty room in a studio recording it. For us, we never have a show where nobody messes up or nobody's off-key. We figured leaving some of that stuff in and not trying to make it perfect helps separate the songs from the way the recorded versions sound. It's another vibe and style.
...We wanted Live In Chicago to have that feeling of a friend in the room with a camera, so it didn't feel like there was this weirdness ever, and we could be natural. At the same time, we wanted to get that 35mm film look and make the DVD not look like a super-streamlined digital thing.

Paul and Oliver in Foxborough, MA, United States during Rammstein's 2022 North America Stadium Tour © Jens Koch & P.R Browne
"It's interesting because the band is made up of six really different personalities. There's quite a bandwidth of influences that end up coming into the music. Ollie and myself are both avid wind surfers, for example. Till is big on hunting. Flake likes to go on trips to the mountains, and he also reads a lot. Richard likes watching movies, and Schneider does yoga, so there's a huge range of influences that end up in the music." | Paul for ArtistDirect, 2009

'The Ballad of Mona Lisa'
How the song came about:
youtube
And if you want an idea of what Brendon might be talking about here, when he says it was an idea from a few years back, this could've been one of the ideas he had from the summer tour in 2006:
Urie has already been composing on his laptop, experimenting with virtual glockenspiel, cello, and harp. - Spin (2006)
It doesn't 100% fit in with that timeline, but if this was something that Brendon was doing regularly for about a year, he was bound to hit gold at some point. Either way, 'The Ballad Of Mona Lisa' came from inbetween the Fever touring era and Cabin writing era, confirmed by Brendon and Spencer.
Spencer: That song is one of the first songs we wrote for the record. Actually, it came from a demo that Brendan had done a couple of years ago. We just hadn’t ever been able to figure out how to put the song together. We had a verse and a chorus and we hadn’t finished it. So, it kind of makes sense, since it is an older idea, that it feels that way. Once you hear the rest of the record it is somewhat of a mix of the two albums and then some new inspiration. - PopEntertainment
When asked about what the lyrics mean, Brendon said that 'The Ballad of Mona Lisa' is about masking and inner struggle of trying to do good things when you see youself as a bad person.
It's about - you know - a story of a guy and a girl, but it's really just kind of about the this duality in nature of yourself. Like, this inner struggle, that kind of... you see yourself as this one evil person doing all these horrible things, and then being the other person trying to correct that. You know, the Devil and the Angel. So, it's guess that kind of fight for yourself. - Brendon with ARTISTdirect News
Panic! recently released Vices & Virtues' first single, 'The Ballad of Mona Lisa,' an anthemic power-rock ballad with dark and personal undertones. "On the surface it can seem like just the story of drama between a guy and a girl," explains Urie. "But it's really about what I've been going through, an inner-struggle within myself, and fighting the dualities of my personality – the side that fucks everything up and destroys everything and the other side that tries to pick up the slack." - SPIN
About the lyric "She paints her fingers with a close precision"
This is an allusion to dolling yourself up. Or getting dolled up. Putting on a mask. You become a different person. You want to present yourself in a way of someone that you are not. I have worn nail polish a bunch but I have never dressed up as a woman, actually. I am a fan of a solid red nail paint, like a Marilyn Monroe red or something. - Genius
What Brendon sees when he looks at the actual Mona Lisa.
When I wrote the song I hadn’t seen the Mona Lisa in person. It actually made me want to go back to the Louvre and look at what was in there. When I finally saw it, I was underwhelmed because there was a crowd of people. Once they left I got overwhelmed because I walked a little bit closer to the rope and you are still like 15 feet away from this thing but luckily I had my glasses and I just stood there kind of staring at this piece that had brought so much inspiration to so many people. It moved me. It was cool. It is just a piece of history, behind glass. Somebody tried to rip it off the wall too. This fucking object is not a living thing but it is very much alive. When you walk through the Louvre, everything in there is beautiful. Everything about it is beautiful, the history too, in itself. Even if you don’t like a particular painting and it doesn’t move you, the history behind it has to move you. - Genius
Whenever I looked at the painting [The Mona Lisa], it was just this very stotic, very graceful, but she doesn't show a lot of emotion. You can't really tell what she was thinking or feeling. "Was the Mona Lisa hot?" I mean, "hot" by today's standards has totally changed. I honestly thought it was Leonardo Di Vinci as a woman. Short answer, yeah I think she was. - MTV (10 On Top)
For those unaware, the whole thing of The Mona Lisa painting being a self-portrait of Leonardo Di Vinci is a conspiracy theory. It's not a very strong conspiracy theory, it's much more likely that the lady the Mona Lisa was based on just had some masculine features due to what scans have picked up over the years, or based on many women in general. But I think the fact that Brendon picks up that theory, when he also discusses how the song can be interpreted as a relationship between as a man and a woman/an angel and devil on your shoulders, is in line with the song he is discussing.
Like, if you're not picking up what I'm putting down right now, if you want to, you could very easily do some queer analysis on this song.

Release: March 9, 2009
Lyrics:
Hey I'm in love
My fingers keep on clicking
To the beating of my heart
Hey I can't stop my feet
Ebony and Ivory and dancing
In the street
Hey it's cause of you
The world is in a crazy hazy hue
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
Man you got me burnin'
I'm the moment between
The striking and the fire
Hey read my lips
'Cause all they say is
Kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss
No it won't ever stop
My hands are in the air
Yes I'm in love
And so onburuburobummbummbumm
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
My heart is beating like a jungle drum
Songwriter:
Sidney Joseph Bechet / Zutty Singleton
SongFacts:
“Jungle Drum” is the third single from Icelandic singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini’s third album, “Me and Armini”. It was released as a digital download on March 9, 2009 and later as a CD single in Germany on June 19, 2009.
Critics received the song very positively; Popmatters reviewer Spencer Tricker called "Jungle Drum" the album's "catchiest song" (alongside "Big Jumps"), "as good as the Fisherman's Woman singles". He also praised the song for having "an irresistible chorus with some completely unexpected interludes." Matthew Allard of ARTISTdirect stated that the song "was intended to be an iPhone advertisement". Clickmusic reviewer Francis Jolley called the song "a lively, fun little gem reminiscent of Nancy Sinatra in her heyday" and "infectious Scandinavian pop." Both Popmatters and Clickmusic reviews praised the song's rhythm section, calling it impossible "not to tap your foot along."
In 2009 she was also seen in the TV show “Germany's Next Top Model”. As a result, the song gained great popularity in German-speaking countries. It was scheduled to appear in the dance video game Just Dance 3, but did not appear for unknown reasons.
In 2010, the track was used as the theme song in a video created for the Icelandic government's official campaign "Inspired by Iceland" to attract tourists to Iceland.

A Perfect Circle Release Haunting New Song, Announce First Album In Fourteen Years @ARTISTdirect
Tue, 17 Oct 2017 10:21:30 A Perfect Circle’s last album release came on Election Day in 2004, when George W. Bush earned his second term as President of the United States. The band followed that polarizing album, eMOTIVe, with an extended hiatus before reforming in 2010 and...

ok ignoring the fact that Shane turned out to be not-so-great, I’m still super grateful that he was the one to shadow the band during the Honda Civic Tour and film other important parts of the early Pretty. Odd. era (for real, though, late spring 2008 in North America sort of feels like its own mini era since there was so much content). Shane was good friends with the whole band, which made such a difference in the kind of footage he got... it’s like the band is hanging out with a friend or the camera isn’t even there at times.
Spencer summed this up perfectly when he told ARTISTdirect: “Shane did our tour documentary. He lives with Brendon. We've known him for a couple of years, and that's one of the things that we were pretty excited about. It wasn't like when we're doing a video interview with MTV or something, and we didn't really know the people there. With Shane, we've known him for so long. He's done things for us, and his work just felt natural. We didn't feel like we were on the spot. That lended to it coming off naturally. We didn't want it to come off as fake at all.”

He criticises the album for containing "absolutely no surprises" but adds that it "never tries too hard, so it winds up satisfying on its own limited scale." Īnother 3/5 rating came from Johan Wippsson, writing for, who wrote that the album "is far better" than Slash's debut, praising the decision to have Kennedy perform on all tracks, though admitting that he "had expected better songs". He observes that performing with Kennedy "clearly is easier on Slash's soul" compared to the vocalists in Slash's previous bands, and that the music on the album "reflects this ease". Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave a more mixed opinion of the album in his review for AllMusic, awarding it 3 out of 5 stars. He concludes that the album is "a collection of lean, high-octane rock-and-roll tunes". Geist compares the album to Slash's solo début, which he criticised for sometimes seeming "strained under the weight of its creator’s own grand ambition", whereas on Apocalyptic Love, Slash's band "let the riffs and hooks fly freely". īrandon Geist of Revolver also gave a positive review of the album, giving it a 4 out of 5 rating. He also praises Myles Kennedy's vocals and cites "Anastastia" and "Far and Away" as standout tracks, praising their orchestral and cinematic elements. Writing for Artistdirect, Rick Florino gave an enthusiastic review, awarding the album 5 out of 5 stars and stating that it "embodies every side of Slash", featuring "some of the man's most incendiary and infectious playing yet". Welcome to Music Monday when we bring you fun songs with jewelry, gemstones or precious metals in the lyrics or title. Today former Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice expresses female empowerment in her 2013 debut single, “Gold.”
In the song, a girl is trying to tell a long-time buddy that she’d like to be more than just friends.
She sings, “Hey, boy, whatcha gonna do / If you want me like I want you, then man up and make your move / I’m Gold, Gold.”
Justice explained to Artistdirect how the word “gold” in the lyrics is intended to convey empowerment, not conceit.
“It’s not like I’m saying, ‘I’m gold. You should love me because I’m amazing and awesome.’ It’s more like, ‘I feel empowered about myself. I feel good as a woman. I have self-respect. You should go for me!'”
Called the “perfect summer tune” by MTV Buzzworthy, “Gold” combines flirtatious, confident lyrics with an upbeat, carefree vibe.
The 28-year-old Justice became a household name in 2010 when she starred on the hit Nickelodeon series Victorious. With the release of her debut single, she followed the leads of fellow Nickelodeon alumnae Ariana Grande and Miranda Cosgrove, who also transitioned from acting to music.
Born in Hollywood, FL, in 1993, Victoria Dawn Justice made her acting debut as a 10-year-old on The WB comedy series, Gilmore Girls. Two years later, she landed the role of Lola Martinez on Nickelodeon’s comedy-drama series, Zoey 101. From 2010 to 2013, she played Tori Vega on Victorious.
After releasing “Gold” in 2013, Justice took a seven-year hiatus from the music industry, returning in December 2020 with her single, “Treat Myself.”
Trivia: Justice’s love interest in the official video for “Gold” is played by Colton Haynes, who starred in the MTV series, Teen Wolf.
Please check out the video of Justice performing “Gold.” The lyrics are below if you’d like to sing along…
“Gold” Written by Tove Nilsson, Peter Thomas, Jason Weiss, Sam Shrieve, Ben Camp, Jakob Jerlström and Ludvig Söderberg. Performed by Victoria Justice.
I’ve tried to let it go But these butterflies I can’t ignore ‘Cause every time that I look at you Know we’re in a catch-22 We’ve been friends for so long but I Need to tell you what’s on my mind I’m sick and tired of playing games ‘Cause I know that you feel the same
I know you inside out, so I’m asking now Take a chance on me How much clearer can I be?
Hey, boy, whatcha gonna do If you want me like I want you, then man up and make your move I’m Gold, Gold You, me, good as can be, want to be more than your company So bet your money on me I’m Gold, Gold
Do I really need to spell it out? My heart skips when you’re around I got everything that you need So come on baby get close to me So confused that I’m not surprised From greater bells, and rolled the dice Know all your moves, don’t know why I fall Should put me out, but I want it all
I know you inside out, so I’m asking now Take a chance on me How much clearer can I be?
Hey, boy, whatcha gonna do If you want me like I want you, then man up and make your move I’m Gold, Gold You, me, good as can be, want to be more than your company So bet your money on me I’m Gold, Gold
Na ra ta la la I’m Gold, Gold Na ra ta la la I’m Gold, Gold
Been to cool just to tell you straight out, but by now I wish you figured it out, I wish you figured it, I wish you figured it, I wish ya You’re not a fool you see what I’m about, so by now I think you figured it out, I think you figured it out, I think you figured it out, I think ya!
Hey, boy, whatcha gonna do If you want me like I want you, then man up and make your move I’m Gold, Gold You, me, good as can be, want to be more than your company So bet your money on me I’m Gold, Gold

A Declaration Of War On Internet Piracy
It is not hard to believe that entertainment moguls support "Internet Piracy", as they are often perceived. The practice of file sharing among Internet users is not supported by the industry. The mistrust and chaos among the giants can be attributed to hackers and pirates of Internet Marketing and Advertising.
Email Spoofing, Email Leaks, and Web Site Entrapment are just a few of the hidden issues that surround Internet Piracy. The entertainment industry has taken steps to help the average Internet user combat piracy. Use of security software, preventive surfing techniques, firewalls and other invasion prevention tools can help ensure the safety and security for file sharing and communication among Internet users. Read more info,https://www.onsist.com/

MediaDefender has launched a war against intellectual pirates. Hackers claim that emails from MediaDefender employees were posted on the Internet by MediaDefender employees in an effort to reveal embarrassing details about the piracy war within the entertainment industry.
The Target Market – The Entertainment Corporation, Introduction/Presentation the Product and Manufacturer
MediaDefender is a California-based unit of ArtistDirect Inc. and a vendor for many clients in the entertainment sector. Their services are used by record labels and movie studios to stop file sharing. They claim it is piracy. "Spooking and decoying" are the services offered by the vendor. The vendor's intention is to flood the Internet in fake files, which may make it difficult to locate its location. This is an attempt by Internet pirates to escape.
Advertising and bad publicity
Sarah McBride, the author of the article "Antipiracy group suffers email leak", said that information about MediaDefenders efforts was leaked via purported employee emails. The article was published in Market Place – The Wall Street Journal, page.1B Monday, September 17, 2007.
Here are some things to watch out for in the competition
McBride claims that the company was creating a website called MiiVii which would allow users to download and upload copyrighted movies and TV shows. The software can be used to track and report on other people's activities, as well as secretly monitor their activity. McBride claimed that the company was testing the MiiViii website but denied that it was intended to trap users. According to some, the blogosphere was a "Devious Product." According to the article, a MediaDefender employee stated that the company is investigating how emails were leaked.
Planning - Probable Partnership or Alliance
According to one email, MediaDefender was also looking into installing software on a co-op MiiVii user's computers to turn them into anti-piracy devices. Some files appear to be valid copies of songs and movies targeted by pirates, but it could impede downloading to nodes for hours.
Product Delivery/Transportation and Advertising Method
Internet browsers that had downloaded the software were able receive the information. McBride stated that the emails appeared on readily accessible websites such as TorrentFreak.com.
Advertisement, Albeit Bad Publicity - Unethical Conduct
Emails contained personal data such as telephone numbers, social security numbers, private email Ips, and other information. Hackers may also have been able monitor MediaDefenders' phone calls, as it appears from the emails. According to the report, an audio file that was circulated via phone calls purportedly revealed a conversation between New York State Attorney General (NYSAG) and Media Defender.
Product and Company Mission Statement
McBride stated that the attorney general's offices declined to comment. MediaDefender's leak could have a negative impact on the company's image. "You have a company that is trying to stop access to copied material online." McBride quotes Eric Garland (CEO of Big Champagne LLC), a company that tracks stolen online content. McBride says that the emails include information about various techniques and technical solutions to track P2P users and disrupt P2P service.
Here are some things to watch out for
Technology bloggers downloaded portions of emails from the Internet that were not easily accessible and uploaded them to websites according to the report. McBride writes that the music and movie industries have spent many years fighting online piratery through lawsuits and public awareness campaigns as well as tactics like spoofing.
What is Spoofing?
IP spoofing This is a technique that allows an intruder to gain unauthorized access to computers. The hacker sends messages to a computer using an IP address to indicate that the message comes from a trusted host. A hacker can use several techniques to locate an IP address for a trusted host, then modify packet headers to make it appear that the packets are coming directly from that host. IP spoofing can be prevented by using newer routers or firewall arrangements. According to the article, the entertainment industry wants Internet users to be prevented from downloading and/or sharing movies and music files. In fact, I believe that if the entertainment industry wants to control everything (produces, markets, advertises, transports movie and music media), it should have complete control over their spoofing dilemma. If the consumer wants to purchase the product, they will need to do so through the entertainment industry or its representatives.
