While it’s true that irl Indian people do have a wide range of diversity, given how type moon/gatcha culture tends to be about these things I’d be hesitant to place it as being a choice made with the consideration of those irl factors. It’s far more likely that because they decided to make kama a sakuraface kama by default gained her skin tone as well, without another alternative considered. 

The fact is, with the exception of a handful of artists, the servants in fate from India do tend towards being light skinned, which does suggest an issue with colorism even if one particular design wasn’t necessarily whitewashing.

Like yes, kama COULD be light skinned. But they also could’ve easily made her brown (and had good justification for it), and instead made her light like the majority of the other servants from basically every other location, so while in her specific case it isn’t as egregious as someone like tezcatlipoca, in the greater picture of fgo’s issues with colorism it doesn’t help

Kama/Kamadeva FGO's stage 2 and 3 designs slap hard, but I'm not sure if her design is an example of whitewashing or colorism, (then again, he is in the body of Sakura Matou) because most scriptural and visual references mention Kamadeva as being of green complexion, no traces of Kama being of brown or white complexion exists, and TM prolly thought green would be too jarring. With that said, I still think the idea of a brown Kama would be far better. But yeah, I don't think people realize that the Indian subcontinent is vastly diverse in terms of ethnic and racial groups and that we're not all brown. Furthermore, the vedic gods are complex beings, and their skin colour is vastly different from that of humans. Some of the gods are described as being white, black, brown, green, red, blue and etc.

Your artstyle consists of rounded shapes, which is so cool I added some circular shape language to my interpretation of Robin (thx blud). I'm just curious where that comes from.

if you meant to ask "Where does my Robin soft and round feature's inspiration come from" I'm afraid I don't have an exact answer. For Fem Robin I've said before and I'll say it again that I based her on one of my irl friends. For Male Robin, I think just because I like that body type.

I do have many inspirational artists though. I call them my "idol artists" and I mostly share their info with my close friends when they ask. Here's some first name on the list:

Star Shadow Magician - Long hair, pretty and bb girls, her sense of design is also top-notch, quick sketch, pretty lighting, etc...

Pako - Speed, ultra speed, and an interesting way of using colors

Suzunosuke - Speed and clean sketch. I draw so fast now because I've learned from them ever since middle school.

Kuri Huang, Sainker, Aki - from AFK Arena. I mentioned them in one of my tutorials too. Simply breathtaking.

Katsura Kotarō

➵ Unlike Gintoki, Katsura finds the kiss marks left by his s/o's lipstick or gloss to be quite attractive. He loves showing them off to his friends and boasting about how great his s/o is.

➵ Katsura is also quite affectionate with his s/o, but in a more reserved and gentlemanly way. He likes holding their hand and giving them chaste kisses on the cheek.

➵ When his s/o kisses him on the neck, Katsura finds it very sensual and romantic. He likes the feeling of their lips on his skin and often tilts his head to give them better access.

➵ Katsura is a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to relationships. He believes in courtship and chivalry, and likes to treat his s/o like royalty.

➵ However, he's not opposed to a bit of adventure in the bedroom. Katsura enjoys trying out new positions and techniques with his s/o, as long as it's done with love and respect.

➵ Katsura is a very creative person, and he likes to express his love for his s/o through art and poetry. He's not the best artist or poet, but his s/o always appreciates the effort.

"Is that a new shade of lipstick?" Katsura asks, turning his head to look at you with a gentle smile.

"Yeah, it is. Do you like it?" You reply, tracing your finger along the mark on his neck.

"I do," he says, his voice softening. "I find it quite attractive, actually."

You feel your cheeks flush at his words, and you lean in to kiss him again, this time pressing your lips a bit harder against his skin. Katsura lets out a quiet sigh, tilting his head to give you better access.

"You know, I think I like this more than I thought I would," he says, his hand moving to caress your cheek.

"Really? I'm glad," you reply, feeling a warmth spread through your body at his touch.

Katsura pulls you closer to him, his other hand resting on your waist. You feel his lips brush against your ear as he whispers, "I love you, my dear."

You smile, feeling your heart swell with love for this reserved and gentlemanly man who makes you feel so cherished. You lean in to give him a chaste kiss on the cheek, and he returns the gesture, holding your hand tightly in his.

As you both stand there, wrapped up in each other's embrace, you feel a sense of contentment wash over you. This is where you belong, in Katsura's arms, leaving your mark on his neck and his heart.

Sakata Gintoki

➵ Gintoki is a bit self-conscious about the kiss marks left by his s/o's lipstick or gloss, but he tries to play it cool by acting like he doesn't care. However, deep down, he finds it a bit embarrassing.

➵ On the other hand, Gintoki really enjoys leaving kiss marks on his s/o's skin, especially if it makes them blush or giggle.

➵ When his s/o kisses him on the neck, Gintoki finds it really ticklish, but he tries to hold back his laughter to avoid looking too vulnerable.

➵ Despite his reputation as a womanizer, Gintoki is actually quite shy when it comes to initiating physical contact with his s/o. He often waits for them to make the first move.

➵ However, once he gets going, Gintoki is very affectionate and loves cuddling with his s/o. He especially likes nuzzling his face into their hair.

➵ Gintoki is a bit of a romantic at heart, but he often hides it behind his sarcasm and cynicism. He secretly loves watching cheesy romance movies and reading sappy love stories.

➵ When his s/o kisses him on the lips, Gintoki likes to deepen the kiss and explore their mouth with his tongue. He finds it very intimate and passionate.

➵ Gintoki also loves leaving little love notes for his s/o, either on paper or on their phone. He enjoys coming up with witty and humorous messages to make them smile.

➵ Whenever his s/o is feeling down or stressed out, Gintoki likes to give them gentle massages to help them relax. He's surprisingly good at it!

➵ Finally, Gintoki is a big fan of role-playing in the bedroom. He enjoys pretending to be a different character or trying out new scenarios with his s/o.

You sit at the bar, sipping on your cocktail, while Gintoki nurses his glass of sake next to you. You couldn't resist leaving a few lipstick marks on his cheek earlier, as a sign of your affection. But you notice he seems a bit self-conscious about them, even though he tries to act cool and nonchalant.

As you chat and laugh, you lean in and plant a kiss on his neck, causing his body to tense up. You know he's incredibly ticklish, but he tries to hold back his laughter to avoid looking too vulnerable.

"Ticklish, huh?" You tease, running your fingers over his neck.

Gintoki tries to deny it, but you can tell by the way his body reacts that he's telling a fib. You lean in to kiss him again, this time on the lips, and he relaxes into the moment, forgetting all about the lipstick marks on his cheek.

After a few more drinks and some more teasing, Gintoki finally gives in and lets out a loud laugh as you tickle him. You can see the vulnerability in his eyes, but you also see the love he has for you.

As you leave the bar, you link your arm with his, feeling grateful to have him by your side. Even if you leave lipstick marks all over his face and tickle him until he can't breathe, you wouldn't have it any other way.

Bonus (Pako & Zurako)

Pako (Sakata Gintoki)

➵ Pako is a bit shy when it comes to public displays of affection, but when she's alone with her s/o, she's more than happy to shower them with kisses.

➵ She loves the feeling of being close to someone and making them happy, and she finds that kissing is one of the best ways to do that. Her kisses are often playful and teasing, but when she's feeling especially affectionate, they can be quite passionate and intense.

➵ Pako likes to surprise her s/o with kisses when they least expect it. She'll sneak up behind them and plant a quick kiss on their cheek or forehead, or she'll pull them into a sudden, passionate kiss when they're least expecting it.

➵ Her s/o never knows when she's going to strike, but they love the feeling of being constantly surprised by her affection.

➵ Pako loves to give her s/o butterfly kisses. She'll flutter her eyelashes against their cheek or nose, making them laugh and squirm with delight.

➵ She finds it incredibly cute and endearing when her s/o giggles or blushes from her butterfly kisses, and she loves nothing more than making them feel happy and loved.

Zurako (Katsura Kotarō)

➵ Zurako is a very romantic person, and she loves to show her affection through physical touch. She’s always happy to give her s/o kisses, whether they're quick pecks on the cheek or long, passionate smooches.

➵ She finds kissing to be a very intimate and meaningful act, and she enjoys the feeling of being close to her s/o.

➵ Zurako is a bit of a hopeless romantic, and she loves to sweep her s/o off their feet with grand romantic gestures. She’ll often surprise them with kisses in unexpected places, like on a park bench or in the middle of a crowded street.

Hi, I'm not the artist type, but I'm pretty proud of this.

My best friend recently gave me this bag and allowed me to "personalize" it (because I clearly don't share imperial thinking lol) and it ended up looking like this. The phrase on the bag says "Mishuk gotal'u meshuroke, pako kyore", which means "Pressure makes gems, ease makes decay." It's my favorite Mandalorian proverb.

Also, I added the Starbird as a symbol, because it's practically Sabine Wren's personal signature and she means a lot to me. Here you have what it originally looked like and how it turned out, I hope you like it 💜

I like your Karna and Arjuna comics a lot! They’re very funny, and I like your art a lot. I did notice your tags about Karna’s skin color though — they didn’t really take Karna’s melanin away in Fate’s depiction of him. In all the all the Mahabharata art I’ve seen (which, to be fair, isn’t everything) Karna is the palest guy in the room, to signify that his face ‘shines like the sun’, which is how he’s often described in the Mahabarata. Fate’s pretty awful about whitewashing, but Karna is the one case where it’s in-line with most depictions of him, and there’s actually a textual reason for his appearance.

I’m sorry if this was annoying at all! It’s just a bit of trivia I enjoy, and while the accusations of white-washing are understandable considering the source material (where it’s usually just true, lol) it’s always a bit sad to me when Pako gets accused of that for a choice that was pretty well researched.

I havent read the mahabarata yet, (planning to, but i have very little free time now) so i really do admit my ignorance regarding descriptions in the original text.

As far as im aware, pako wasn't the one 100% responsible for karna, since he was originally created by kinoko nasu for a previous game entry so its possible there were pointers regarding the final design, so I'm not placing all the blame on pako here, (specially considering his design entries are still on the tasteful side and well researched compared to others ive seen in fgo that felt like looking at a hate crime) and overall im not sure about the company's policy on artistic freedom when it comes to the final designs.

Its not really in my place to say it or not since I'm not indian so maybe im completely off, but his design looks more like a rpg fantasy character than something reminescent of the source material/time period he was from, but the same could be said about characters like gilgamesh and some others i guess. I understand a lot of cuts are made in favor of making characters more appealing and marketable to your audience, but karna being albino white + showing no ethnic/cultural features in his design is mainly what bugs me i guess.

Either way i don't dislike karna's design per se, firsr because it looks VERY similar to a character i love from an old game (second because its about time we get a male character wearing some stupid golden underwear armor and spandex, we believe in equality here), but because he just sticks out like a sore thumb compared to his canon legend imo, and feels like just another white/light skinned addition to the indian servant roster and idk, i feel like its just a recurring problem. I guess i wouldnt really have an issue about his skin tone if the game wasn't already so full to the brim with whitewashed characters, so it ends up smelling fishy to me.

(Also couldn't his skin shine like the sun if it was tan? Not a jab at what youve said, this is just a personal addition, but pale white skin wouldn't be the immediate connection id make from that sentence alone, but thats just me. In my mind at least i picture a skin tone like duryodhana's.)

FGO would white-wash me if it's any artist other than Pako and Asuza

Arknights wouldn't really do much, and I'd definitely like the prospect of being a bara furry like Mountain

Xenoblade turned a little guy from the second game into a massive boulder in the third, which is exactly what happened to me. XC also has a diverse cast of characters, so I don't think they'd change me all that much except for having a British accent.

You can think of Rei17 like Ellen of the artbiz.

They are MEAN, and had a long list of bullying and talking shit about other artists, even trapped and locked an artist they don't like in the public WC once. They talked shit about two of my fav artists of FGO - Pako and Wada, public hate Karna and bias Arjuna, but later on still draw for FGO, and draw Karna too.
