Apple Music is the best way to listen to music but my god is its recommendation algorithm pants. tell me why its suggested "Get up!" energising playlist for me this week includes:
Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division
Nina Simone singing The House of the Rising Sun
Arlo Guthrie doing Shenandoah
Two Leonard Cohen songs
Some of my favourite genres are 90s dance, 80s new wave and 2000s neodisco. but we're choosing Joy Division, Arlo Guthrie and Leonard Cohen? What is WRONG with you????
#red said#I JUST WANT A FEW BACK TO BACK UPBEAT SONGS TO WORK OUT TO#I'm not looking for a DEPRESSION PLAYLIST#in fairness Leonard Cohen is one of my most listened artists of 2023 but like#so are Lady Gaga and Archspire#and i do not think there is a person on earth who would be like 'i need some upbeat jams let me throw on some fucking Leonard Cohen'#(i also personally believe that the main reason Leonard Cohen is my 2nd highest ranked artist is because he made SO MUCH MUSIC)#like that's a full discog of a 50 year career. no one cohen song is in my top 20 tracks for the year)

Hey again! Was thinkin' about music (as one obsessed with music does) and I was curious what you were into! :D
Genres, bands, albums, any songs specifically you recommend to me or anyone else? Any small bands or underrated songs you think could use some love?
Also, do you own any physical music? Vinyls, CDs, tapes, something more obscure? (Reel to reel/8track/etc)
And as a little bonus question, favorite transformers soundtrack? (Which show/movie/game did you think had the best (in your opinion) theme/backing tracks)
Well…Heh…I am one of those people who say they like everything and then hate on a bunch of stuff. AHSBHAV no that’s a joke, but it would be easier to say what I don’t like rather than what I do like. I don’t like the specific genre of pop that is Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, and most just popular pop songs, I guess? Like I DO like pop but not that kind of pop. I also have a thing that I need my music to be at least a little loud and energetic because most calm music (like lo-fi) stresses me out (don’t question me.). But I’d say my most listened to genres are metal, rock, hyperpop and electronic (in that order).
I have a really hard time PICKING OUT things for this reason but I’ll give you a screenshot of my most recent added songs to my playlist because those are usually my recent favourites. 2 sec hold on.
Alright there it is. I also just realised I said that like I was texting somebody and having a live conversation but I’m not changing it now.
If I’d have to say anything, I AM IN LOVE with Jay Ray’s stuff. High recommend. I think Jay Ray is big in the tf community though so UAGEUA. If I had to mention like one thing I have that I actually think may not be listened to by many it’s BREAK by Jimmy Here. I wish that song was longer because that scream it has in the end is BANGER. (And yes that is the “it is wednesday my dudes” guy. Yes I watch his videos). Six feet under by kissin’ dynamite is also recently one of my favourites. Can also, ALWAYS, recommend infected mushroom. Specifically “becoming insane” and “The Pretender”. Imma just list some more that I like rq
Drone corpse aviator - Archspire
Frank sinatra
KittenSneeze
System of a down
Odetari
AUDIT - weevildoing
Soft Cell
The Tornado - Owl City
Aleph - Gesaffelstein (This is my locking in song)
Animals - Muse
Bon Jovi
Imagine dragons
Insane Clown Posse
Queen
100 gecs
Lemon Demon
BOOGIE - BROCKHAMPTON
I could go on but we could be here for days guys I’m stopping myself here. And I also recommend every single song in the screenshot. YIPPEE.
I’d like to link you to a previous post where I mention some artists I listen to: here
The problem is that I’m a song listener. Not an album listener, not an artist/band listener. I find a singular song I like, add it to my playlist, and move on. AHBSHA My friends hate me for it. And for that reason I also have no physical music. Only a bit of band merch from my absolute faves (Slipknot and mother mother hehe)
And now I must admit…an EMBARRASSINGLY big portion of the songs on my playlist comes from the Bumblebee movie (and it’s not transformers media, but some of the songs on the screenshot are from THE FUCKING FALLOUT SERIES (it was banger)). AUEHUA They aren’t originals so I’m not gonna count it as much BUT THE SONGS FROM G1…OH BOY YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG. Those are mf BANGERS. We need to go back to rock songs in animated kids movies. I have “The touch” on my goddamn playlist and no I’m not ashamed about it. I also have jort storm by Slimecicle because I’m a gunky goober who wears jorts.

So I started cataloging my vinyl record collection, I haven't finished going through them but I'm currently at 80 records (my guess is I'm a little over halfway through). I have them listed by band then which album and which variant of that album. Corbin is working on putting them in a proper spreadsheet and adding to a discogs collection so we can see updated prices. I have to wait for him to get home from work to verify all his btbam variants but I'm excited to have a proper listing of them and value of our collection. Especially as variant collectors it'll be good to know if we already have that variant or if it's one I'm missing when we go to record stores. I'm also really curious to find out which album we have is worth the most
#all the btbam colors (albums) are different variants but idk the specifics and didnt want to mess with it#can you guess my fave band vs corbins fave lol

Holy shit! It’s been awhile and the year is almost over and there’s so much to say so I better make this quick.
The new Bullet for my Valentine album is okay.
The new Oceans EP is nøt okay.
Deathcore is alive and well in 2021.
Fortitude pretty great but I still prefer Magma just slightly.
Washing machine noises!
What the hell was that EP, Serj?
I think Frontierer might have beat Car Bomb at their own game.
What the fuck, Marilyn Manson?
The new Full of Hell is like a spar with a ferocious fighter whose movements you’ve figured out and now know how to sufficiently defend; was hoping to get my ass kicked.
Oh yay, Porcupine Tree is back :|
Cryptosis filling the metal ecosystem’s Vektor-shaped hole with the debut of the year.
Obviously I’m psyched for Khemmis this week.
A tour was not the announcement I was hoping for, Meshuggah :/
Corey’s best mask yet.
You’re telling me that took you guys ten years, Fred. It’s not like Tool who just took their sweet time the get around to making their album, you were in production hell and label disputes for this unfinished mess for the better part of last decade. Amazing. I love it.
Best Cradle of Filth album in at least a decade.
Support Cane Hill on their independence.
This Converge / Chelsea Wolfe collab better be as good as it damn well should be.
They did not need to make school this hard.
Kin is the album The Valley should have been.
Idk if I want Deafheaven to give pure shoegaze another try; I know they can do better, just not sure if they will.
None of you should listen to me after I gave Endarkenment a 7/10 last year, I clearly can’t be trusted. (9/10 at least)
Bad Wolves, Asking Alexandria, Black Veil Brides still addicted to making absolute trash.
Knocked fucking Loose!
Trivium powering through what should be a stagnant phase of their career through sheer tenacity, absolutely respect the dedication.
King Woman or Hiss Spun, I still can’t decide.
I DO NOT get the hype around Spiritbox’s decent djent riffs and gutless top 40 choruses.
Donda was kinda lame.
Idk what’s going on with Fear Factory, but they could probably still be making legendary albums if not for it.
Beast in Black is the cheesiest shit ever and I love it.
Billie Eilish with another solid album.
I discovered that it is indeed possible to implode due to the sheer magnitude of cringe.
Jim Breuer was never funny, he just knew how to do Brian Johnson’s voice, but now his “comedy” is physically painful to watch.
Holy shit, Altarage!
2021 has not been the best year for Profound Lore.
Come on Dream Theater..
You could’ve picked a much better act to tour with, Korn, than the washed up whiny racist uncle Aaron Lewis clown show experience.
Cannibal Corpse keep on Cannibal Corpsing :)
Why has god abandoned us?
So Brent Hinds is still a piece of shit.
Plasmodium’s Towers of Silence is like taking too much of an edible in outer space.
That’s more like it, Godspeed.
They did not need to make life this hard.
I’d like a refund.
Doom metal on Bandcamp needs a serious rejuvenation.
Archspire are not human.
For the most part I don’t think metal has a huge problem with it, but I hope artists across the board (but much more importantly, bookers and promoters) take note of what went down at Astroworld.
Any day now, Wrest
Any day now, Gorguts
Any day now, Neurosis
Any day now, Necrophagist (hahahahahahaha lolololol)
Any day now, rogue asteroid.
For some reason is didn’t expect Sinner Get Ready to be all that great, but it’s the best album I’ve heard since starting this blog.

SEND ME ☕ TO MY INBOX AND I’LL TELL YOU A HEADCANON ABOUT ‘HIT THE LIKE BUTTON’ | not accepting
Thanks @sistasecbhere for the ask!!
one. Inuyasha is a huge metalhead; we’re not just talking about Metallica and Slayer, we’re talkin’ the real heavy shit. For context, some of his favourite bands are Jinjer, Archspire, and Slaughter to Prevail. His shop is typically playing this type of music all of the time, though only so loud that it’s more than easy to speak over. He also plays it in his car when Kagome isn’t in it, unless she explicitly says she doesn’t mind. Even then, he tends to put on the lighter stuff for her. It’s a little amusing, seeing as Inuyasha likes such aggressive, loud music when his ears are so sensitive.
two. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Kagome is one of those people who will literally listen to a mix of things. One minute she’ll be listening to Hozier, the next will be Whitney Houston and after that is Soundgarden. As a child of the noughties, Kagome is a huge fan of nostalgia playlists and one-hit wonders. She doesn’t necessarily have a favourite artist, she just listens to whatever and doesn’t really care what genre it is. When it comes to Inuyasha’s taste in music, she likes some metal, but the really heavy stuff can sometimes just turn out sounding like pure noise and that’s it.
three. Inuyasha physically looks four or five years older than Kagome, making him appear twenty-seven or twenty-eight to most people.

Quote
Over the past month, an AI called Dadabots has been endlessly generating and streaming death metal on YouTube, as spotted by Motherboard. Made by musical technologists CJ Carr and Zack Zukowski, this algorithm is only one of many death metal algorithms the duo has developed over the years, with each one trained on a single artist’s discography. The training method for Dadabots involves feeding a sample recurrent neural network whole albums from a single artist. The albums are split up into thousands of tiny samples, and then it creates tens of thousands of iterations to develop the AI, which starts out making white noise and ultimately learns to produce more recognizable musical elements. This particular version of Dadabots has been trained on real death metal band Archspire, and Carr and Zukowski have previously trained the neural network on other real bands like Room For A Ghost, Meshuggah, and Krallice. In the past, they’ve released albums made by these algorithms for free on Dadabots’ Bandcamp — but having a 24/7 algorithmic death metal livestream is something new. Carr and Zukowski published an abstract about their work in 2017, explaining that “most style-specific generative music experiments have explored artists commonly found in harmony textbooks,” meaning mostly classical music, and have largely ignored smaller genres like black metal. In the paper, the duo said the goal was to have the AI “achieve a realistic recreation” of the audio fed into it, but it ultimately gave them something perfectly imperfect. “Solo vocalists become a lush choir of ghostly voices,” they write. “Rock bands become crunchy cubist-jazz, and cross-breeds of multiple recordings become a surrealist chimera of sound.” Carr and Zukowski tell Motherboard they hope to have some kind of audience interaction with Dadabots in the future. For now, you can listen to it churn out nonstop death metal and comment along with other people watching the livestream on YouTube. Coincidentally, the copyright repercussions of training a musical AI on a single artist is a thorny gray area without any legal precedent guiding it, so music like this may not be so freely available on the internet in the future. “I won’t mince words,” Jonathan Bailey, CTO of iZotope said of the issue

“Involuntary Doppelganger”
ARCHSPIRE exploded onto the scene in the year 2009 – after an earlier prelude under the moniker DEFENESTRATED. The band grew out of the rich Canadian scene for technical extremes that includes illustrious names such as GORGUTS or BEYOND CREATION. Yet ARCHSPIRE set out to take the sound to the next level from the start as their debut album ‘All Shall Align’ (2011) made clear, which immediately received critical comparison with the scene’s spearheads like OBSCURA.
youtube
“Human Murmuration”
The band developed a lyrical concept revolving around a dystopian science fiction universe, which was expanded on their sophomore full-length, ‘The Lucid Collective’ (2014) that witnessed ARCHSPIRE gaining widespread international recognition as one of the hottest names within the tech death community and beyond.
youtube
“Calamus Will Animate”
With ‘Relentless Mutation’, the Canadians are pushing the limits of their genre even further than before on all levels.
