Some of my favorite fictional friendships who I think would be willing to get platonically married (some of these I ship both platonically and romantically and some of these I ship purely platonically)

(Stranger Things) Robin & Steve: Do I even need to explain this one?

(MCU) Kate & Yelena: This is doubly true if Yelena is ace and/or aro. I could also see them getting married on an assignment or something and then just not getting around to divorcing while joking about being work wives

(MCU) Clint & Natasha: I honestly only see this happening in a situation where Laura dies in a non-Thanos related incident

(Seinfeld) Jerry & George: They sincerely believe that it was just for the tax benefits. Hard to say if they ever become self-aware enough for it to become romantic

(Community) Annie & Abed: Got carried away with the bit. Abed doesn’t take marriage seriously enough to get a divorce and Annie likes the idea of being married and being able to refer to someone as her husband. They do eventually both grow to actually enjoy being platonically married to each other. Annie might eventually want a divorce when she realizes she’s a lesbian and falls in love with a woman. Abed might want a divorce if he sees how sad the marriage makes Troy

(Lotr) Legolas & Gimli: Same reasons for why they’d get married romantically but if they had no romantic feelings for each other

(X-Men Evolution) Rogue & Kitty: I could see them actually following through on an “if neither of us are married by the time we’re 40” kind of arrangement, though it’d take quite a bit of convincing on Kitty’s part and wouldn’t happen until their 50’s

(The Good Place) Jason & pretty much anyone except for Michael (and Janet): Literally canonically happened with Tahani, kind of canonically happened with Pillboi. Eleanore would definitely go for it if it got her out of a tough situation (and depending on her relationship status with Chidi). Would probably be able to guilt trip Chidi into it if it was really necessary to get Jason out of a bad situation

(SPOP) Bow and Sea Hawk: I don’t think this requires an explanation

(Willow) Kit & Elora: Only if there’s something that stops Kit from marrying Jade or if it’s on accident

(Psych) Shawn & Gus: Shawn would no hesitation platonically marry Gus but Gus would not be up for it

(BBC Merlin) Arthur and Merlin: Would they be platonic life partners? Yes. Would they be romantically married? Yes. Would they get platonically married? No.

(X-Men Evolution) Kurt & Kitty: They would also have an ‘if neither of us are married by the time we’re 40’ kind of thing but Kurt’s too much of a romantic to go through with it

(Community) Jeff & Britta: It wouldn’t be romantic, and it wouldn’t be platonic, but a secret third thing (probably related to spite). We already almost saw it happen in the season two premiere

(Schitt’s Creek) Stevie and David: They would consider it in the pre-Patrick era, but David’s too much of a romantic to go through with it (did they have an ‘if we’re not married by the time we’re 40’ thing in canon? I can’t remember)

(New Girl) Winston and Cece: A classic Winston and Cece mess around would go too far and Cece would demand an immediate divorce (though dependings on the timing she might let it go longer than necessary just to watch Schmidt’s head explode regularly)

(BTVS) Tara and Oz: Sincerely don’t know if either of them would actually be down for this but I think it’d be tons of fun

(SPOP) Bow and Adora: I think they’d be perfectly happy to be platonically married but Glimmer would blow a gasket and Catra’s passive aggressiveness would be reaching very dangerous levels

im so happy u wanna know more cuz 

okay JUST IMAGINE

the gang arriving at the good place proper next season and one of the architects/michael-stand-ins over there is the michael sheen character who, for less confusion, i will call Arthur. Now, Arthur (played by michael sheen) is one of the many Good Place clerks who will take offense at the implication that the system hasn’t been running well for centuries, but he’ll take offense in this perfectly cheery passive-aggressive way (basically a mixture of aziraphale and crowley) and he’ll try to undermine the team’s efforts under the guise of helping.

you know who else is sometimes passive-aggressively cheery due to high societal pressures? our GRL the qween herself, the one and only Tahani. and Arthur (remember, michael sheen character) will immediately see a mirror/ally in tahani. U KNOW WHY? because of all the ppl in the gang she’s the only one who can truly talk Arthur’s language. i picture the scene of the first time they interact and it’s just delicious, because they can’t seem to one-up each other, they talk and flatter each other emptily while giggling in frustration and it’s THE BEST cuz there’s also weird sexual tension? i should point out michael sheen would be wearing his mensch beard for this and curly hair and a dope-ass suit, CUZ SUE ME. oh and while all of this is going on you hear eleanor from the sidelines going “whew, this must be the cotillion edition of real housewives of atlanta”. 

BUT THE THING IS while Tahani decides “okay, this man/angel is a male version of my sister, i’m done with that toxicity, i need to be the bigger person” Arthur the poor fool is completely ENTRANCED and is crushing HARD and TAHANI CAN’T TELL because she’s not used to anyone preferring her and putting her first, not really. plus, she thinks Arthur is out to get her. cuz despite having so many celebrity friends and connections she doesn’t feel genuinely loved. ANYWAY it gets HILARIOUS because Tahani keeps seeing his interest in her as his passive-aggressive attempt to outshine her. for instance Arthur keeps forwarding these invitations like “would you care to help me design this park” (cuz he’s promised to listen to ideas from the group) and Tahani thinks he’s just trying to make it a competition but the poor fool just WANTS TO SPEND TIME WITH HER! I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT

anyway i just LOVE LOVE the concept of Tahani getting one of the big VIP angels/architects to fall for her while not making any efforts, like oh she’s made a celebrity conquest and she doesn’t know it!!! I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT X 10000

oh OH and i forgot to mention, the first time Arthur sees her it’s gotta be one of those slow-mo things

like picture Arthur and a bunch of other Good Place bureaucrats welcoming the outcast Cockroach Team into their neighborhood and everyone is feeling wary about these intruders, and there’s this ominous music playing when the two groups finally meet, and THEN the moment Arthur sees and hears Tahani talk (she’d be the first to examine the place critically and make a totally innocent passive aggressive remark about how the faux-neighborhood Michael designed in the Bad Place was much more chic and ergonomic), i just picture THIS SONG going thru Arthur’s head like INSTANTLY  because GODDAMN (God pun intended!) SOULMATE. i picture some hilarious editing where she’s walking in slow-mo, waving her arm dismissively at the neighborhood while she tosses her hair and smiles in a queenly fashion, and all Arthur can hear is “you’re so fine, lose my mind, and the world seems to disappear” and then cut to no music as the other bureaucrats ask Arthur what’s going on, and he has to act like he’s obviously FINE ahahahaha. but as he goes to greet the group his eyes keep sliding to Tahani and I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT YALL!!!!

I'm not a gamer so I haven't seen a second of R2D2 RDR2 but you're always talking about Arthur so c'mon babe, infodump on me your new comfort character!

And for TGP, because it's a classic, let's go with someone we haven't really discussed as much: our very own theater kid and strong, independent acid snake, Vicky <3

character: hate them | don’t really care | like them | LOVE them | THEY ARE MY PRECIOUS

ship with: A happy ending? Free healthcare? TB vaccine?! No but seriously the closest I come to shipping him with anyone would be Charles, who as you don't know the story is a half-native American, half-black member of the gang who is an absolute badass but even more stoic and quiet than Arthur. He's the only character Arthur hugs twice in the game and in almost any mission he's sent on he's like "I'LL TAKE CHARLES!" And Charles journeying all that way to find his body and bury him in the location he requested just breaks my heart.

His scenes with nature photographer Albert Mason are also fucking adorable and shippable.

brotp: This is the harder question. I love the drunken night out he has with Lenny, I love how he calls Sean his annoying little brother, and him and Uncle have my favorite convo in the game ("You're my favorite parasite!"). But the centre of the story revolves around him and John Marston so seeing them repair their brotherly bond which is so broken at the start only to lose each other as soon as they admit how they feel to each other is what brings the tears.

But then there's Arthur x Sadie, and while Arthur and John are like actual brothers, Arthur and Sadie are more like platonic soulmates. They're so much like Hellstrop where I was very close to shipping them at one point and could see it working in an au, but she's such a protective big sister in the end (despite being eleven years younger), and she's the one who leads the revenge mission in the end after Arthur's killer, with Charles and John.

general opinions: I hate Westerns. I hate cowboys. But my bestie was adamant I try this game and was certain I would fall in love with Arthur and I did (I fell in love with every character...except Micah). I can't help but compare him to the boys in Ted Lasso, especially Roy, where they have this appearance of being a tough, aggressive hardman but inside them is a heart of gold and rainbows! And just like TL, this game feels like such a deconstruction of typical 'masculine' tropes and stereotypes, where you have all these gruff cowboys opening up about their feelings, their love for each other, sitting around a campfire at 3am and singing songs or giving each other therapy.

And the same way that the Good Place made me rethink ethics and philosophy, RDR2 and Arthur especially gave me an existential crisis. I actually had a really vivid dream where I thought I had TB and was dealing with being afraid of death, the same way I'd watched Arthur go through, and that really shook me up, to the point where when I woke up I had to remember "Oh yeah, I'm vaccinated!" I think as it's a video game and a LOT longer than a movie or even series (my first playthrough was over fifty hours) it was so much more immersive and couldn't be told in any other medium. Arthur's relationship with his narcissistic, gaslighting father figure also hits very close to home with me. I just wanna wrap him up in blankets and pet his hair, the poor kitty.

general opinions: S4 would have been made a fork load better if we had had more Vicky. IDK doing what but just more, it couldn't have made it worse!
