It mattered little in the long run, really, what Merlin thought of him. She had made her opinion on him clear some time ago, and Arthur had little and less time to care about her dislike of him. Her disdain in comparison to the tyrant that had been his father. So he simply dismissed the mage in his mind, pouring some water in the basin before promptly dunking his head in. Reaching up, he brusquely scrubbed the sweat and dirt from training from his hair, shivering as he stood up and shook the droplets from his eyes.

Great men sought power, huh.

Snorting, Arthur grabbed the towel next to the basin before casting a disinterested glance at Merlin across the training field.

"Maybe you believe that the only way men can be great is if they seek power. If they rush headlong into war and destroying their enemies. But I didn't ask to become King, nor did I ever want it. I'll never meet your lofty standards," and he was fine with that, "but I'll be better than all kings that came before me for the sake of my people."
