RULES: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title/emoji that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
uh. my WIP folder for writing is much like how I organize layers in my art program, which is to say, it's in horrific disarray. so we're not gonna name every file in the folder, we would be here forever and ever, half of the files are just "untitled document."
I mostly write for original characters or comic scripts, stuff that never sees another face but mine, i'd like to change that, so here we go.

Non-romantic interactions between Rosario and canon characters that i’ve thought about but may or may not end up working into a fic:
🔮 Fiona - another pretty lady that Rosario has a bit of a crush on. They didn’t really jive with her whole crystal healing white girl vibes until they themself became a minion of Hastur and it was Fiona who helped them learn to cope with the subsequent existential crisis.
🌲Robbie - Rosario’s baby boy! In their mind, Robbie is their son, full stop. Together with Luchino, they’re his devoted adopted parents. Rosario tends to coddle and spoil the boy a bit. Robbie, in turn, views them as family and adores them while still remembering his biological family, so in his mind the Diruses are more akin to cousins.
🐗 Murro - it makes sense to me that Rosario would get on well with Murro. both are so accustomed to being around animals that they end up treating each other the same and it works out just fine. they don’t talk much but are content to spend time in the other’s company. Rosario often brings treats for his boar friends.
🐙 Hastur - since becoming Hastur’s pawn, Rosario has developed a complicated relationship with their “patron”. they’re going through the classic Lovecraftian cycle of craving understanding of things beyond their understanding to mental overload and breakdown and repeat. Hastur views them with just barely more fondness than a child with an ant farm - they’re amusing to watch, and also to (metaphorically) pick up and shake from time to time.
🤠 Kevin - after a bit of initial wariness, Rosario and Kevin met an understanding and quickly bonded over a shared fondness for hanging around the Manor’s stables. Rosario understands Kevin’s tendency to assign animals to people’s personalities since they think along similar lines (to a lesser extent). Kevin has designated them a magpie (clever, well-groomed, adaptable).
🎪 Mike - Rosario just doesn’t like Mike. they have no ill feelings towards him, they just don’t have any positive feelings towards him either. his tendency to be hot-and-cold to an extreme causes them to doubt his sincerity - Mike finds Rosario to be a stiff but doesn’t hate them, therefore they get his “charming” side, and this makes them uncomfortable.
💡Luca - BROS BROS BROS BROS!!! A classic case of an extrovert “adopting” an introvert. Despite having very little in common, they’re immensely fond of each other and respect each other’s contributions to their respective fields. Both are happy to listen to the other infodump or to work on projects in “parallel play”.
🔦 Kreacher - lbr u know he would call them slurs and be Gross to them. besides Orpheus, the person Rosario hates most in the Manor. it’s On Sight. he pickpocketed them once just to taunt them and it made them feel so vulnerable that they asked Norton to teach them how to fight in order to feel safer again. the next time he got too close, they broke his nose. Being a coward, he now sticks to insulting them outside of punching range.
🎨 Edgar - perhaps unsurprisingly since Edgar doesn’t get along with anyone, he also looks down on Rosario, designating their work “lowbrow” and “not art”, which as u can imagine goes over really well. Rosario in turn looks down on Edgar as a spoiled snobby brat and considers interacting with him a waste of time. Mutual ignoring is the result.
🧨 Joker - Joker has decided that he likes Rosario and they’re his friend whether they want to be or not (they do not). He makes them uncomfortable at best and at worst (as Hunter) they feel unsafe. However, his attachment to them causes them to feel responsible (Rosario needs to be needed and will respond even if they feel threatened by the person who “needs” them) and his demeanor as a survivor makes them pity him, so they treat him kindly while keeping as much distance between him and themself as possible.
⚙️ Burke - a relationship adjacent to friendship. The only thing Burke and Rosario have in common is that they both care for Bane, and since Bane is fond of both then they also accept each other. Interactions are sparse and civil. Neither is particularly interested in developing an actual friendship.
💨 Ithaqua - decently close to also being “adopted” by Rosario. Being older (and more capable of processing trauma) than Robbie, Ithaqua is hesitant to accept another parent, still desiring to have his mom back. But he is very fond of Rosario and likes the attention they give him, so he deigns to accept their stewardship more akin to that of a babysitter or older sibling.
🧟♂️ Percy - ok i lied there’s one other person Rosario hates more than Kreacher and fears equally as much as Orpheus. Rosario is outright terrified of Percy and reacts viscerally to this fear. Not only are they afraid for themself, even moreso they’re terrified for Andrew and the potential consequences of his entanglement with Percy. Additionally, Rosario views the world through the lens of their understanding of nature, and Percy’s existence defies the most concrete law of nature, hence their deeply-rooted fear.
🧜♀️ Grace - i personally hc Grace as being Hastur’s daughter and therefore “related” to Rosario (albeit higher up the food chain). Grace is excited to have a “sibling”, but Rosario is less enthusiastic. Developing a familial relationship based on their unwilling bond with an eldritch god is a lot to process. While they’re not hostile towards Grace, they’re not at the point of embracing her. Yet.
#rosario killick#the naturalist#i wish i had all the time in the world to explore these relationships in writing#but alas it remains a drabble#drabbles#my writing#river babbles

Famous Five Art Nostalgia #02 – Part 4B
Introductory post
Masterpost
☃️🎄🔦 Five Go Adventuring Again – Le Club des Cinq
Original publication date: 1943 (UK), 1955 (France)

(Cover art by Jean Sidobre, Hachette, Vermeille collection, 1974)
This is the second part of the illustrations featured in Hachette’s 1971 Galaxie edition of Famous Five Go Adventuring Again / Le Club des Cinq, illustrated by Jean Sidobre (the same illustrations were used in the subsequent 1974 Vermeille edition whose cover art is shown above). The first part is available here. Enjoy!
~~~~~~
Plot summary (continued):
One night, Timmy is awakened by a noise and attacks the intruder, who turns out to be Mr Roland. The latter claims that he was alerted by some noise around Uncle Quentin’s study and got up to investigate. Timmy’s attack gives Mr Roland the opportunity to request from Quentin that the dog be kept in his kennel from now on.
(An intruder at night…)
(Timmy on the attack!)
(George is distraught upon learning that Timmy will have to be kept in this kennel at all times as of the next day)
(First day of banishment from the house 🥺)
On the next day, George and Timmy go for a walk on their own while Mr Roland and the other children head back to Kirrin Farm to look for the Secret Way mentioned on the map, with no luck.
(George and Timmy go for a walk on their own)
(This picture is the header for chapter 10 but I’m a bit confused about what scene it is meant to depict. 🤔 I guess this may be when Julian and Dick tell George what happened at the farm… or possibly later, when she learns that Timmy’s punishment will not be lifted – although both conversations happen indoors, which is clearly not the setting of this illustration. 🤨)
Julian, Dick and Anne appeal to Uncle Quentin to lift Timmy’s punishment, arguing that George has made a lot of efforts to behave around Mr Roland, but the latter convinces Quentin to stay firm in his decision.
(Dick advises George to be on her best behaviour that day, so that her cousins can plead her cause and try to have Timmy’s punishment lifted – sadly, all of these efforts will be in vain!)
There is a snowstorm that night, and George cannot bear for Timmy to stay outside. She sneaks him inside the house and warms him up in Quentin’s study. On the next day, Quentin notices that some secret papers have been stolen from this office, and interrogates the children about it. Anne is noticeably nervous and gets some heat from Mr Roland, but doesn’t betray George and Timmy’s presence in the room that night.
(Protective-Big-Brother Mode activated!)
(George and Timmy go for another lonesome walk on the cliff, gazing upon their domain -- Kirrin Island)
(Julian, Dick and Anne tell George about Quentin’s papers being stolen)
Honest to a fault, George ultimately admits to her father that she let Timmy into the house, receiving a telling-to and getting confined to her room for the rest of the day. Snow starts falling in the afternoon, and the children are surprised to hear Mr Roland announcing his intention to go for a walk. Julian follows him and sees him giving an envelope to the two artists lodging at Kirrin Farm.
(Julian follows Mr Roland’s tracks)
(A covert meeting on the moor)
Based on this suspicious behaviour, the Five are now convinced that Mr Roland is the thief. After her various visits to Quentin’s office, George figures out that this room is actually the one described on the map they found and guesses that the Secret Way leads from Kirrin Cottage to Kirrin Farm. The children investigate the secret passage that night.
(Discovering the entrance to the Secret Way!)
(Exploring the secret passage)
(Along the Secret Way…)
(Anne is cold and regrets not taking her coat 🥶)
The secret passage leads to the cupboard with the trick panel that the children had been playing with at the farm, which is conveniently located in the sleeping room used by the two supposed artists. The children search the room and find the stolen papers just as the thieves realise that their ploy has been uncovered. The Five hurry down the tunnel with the thieves in hot pursue. The villains almost outrun them but retreat when George threatens to set Timmy loose on them.
(A hasty retreat down the Secret Way...)
(Timmy gets fierce!)
Ultimately, the three culprits (Mr Roland included) are locked up in a room at Kirrin Cottage until the police comes to arrest them.
~~~~~~
Bonus 1:
The original English version stops after the thieves are arrested, but the French translation adds a little titbit where the Five conclude their adventure by officially dubbing themselves the Famous Five. Here it is for your reading pleasure!
[The bolded text is Blyton’s original text; the non-bolded text is the French addendum.]
The snow melted two days later, and the police took away Mr Roland and the others. The children watched.
“No more lessons these hols,” said Anne gleefully.
“No more shutting Timothy out of the house,” said George.
“You were right and we were wrong, George,” said Julian. “You were fierce, weren’t you? – but it’s a jolly good thing you were!”
“She is fierce, isn’t she?” said Dick, giving the girl a sudden hug. “But I rather like her when she’s fierce, don’t you, Julian? Oh, George, we do have marvellous adventures with you! I wonder if we’ll have any more?”
They will – there isn’t a doubt of that!
THE END
“I sure do!”
George laughed.
“No wonder,” she exclaimed. “You're all as fierce and as stubborn as I am: you were as set in your ways as I was in mine about Mr Roland! All the same, the lot of us, with Timothy, we make a great team!”
“The Famous Five, that's who we are, and there's no stopping us!” said Dick excitedly.
“Say,” added George, her eyes shining, "here’s an idea: what if we formed a real club*?” [*Note: This is in reference to the Five’s name in French: ‘le Club des Cinq’.]
Anne jumped for joy at these words.
“Oh yes, and we won't tell anyone!”
“Then we'll have to make a vow,” Julian decided. “Although, well, Timothy can't talk.”
“It doesn't matter,” George sharply replied. “Timmy loves us and he has a faithful heart. What more could we ask for to be sure of him?” She looked at the dog who, lying at her feet, had raised his head when hearing his name.
“Let’s form a circle,” she continued. “Julian is the eldest, he should say the vow. We'll repeat after him.”
George sat cross-legged on the floor next to Timothy. Her cousins followed suit. Then George took Timmy's right paw, Anne his left, and the four children joined hands.
“Go on, Julian,” said Dick.
So the boy began: “All of us gathered here, George, Anne, Timothy, Dick, and Julian, have decided to form the Famous Five...” When the other children had repeated the words, he continued: “We promise to help each other, to protect each other, and to keep the secret.”
In turn, his companions repeated the vow, and then there was silence for a few moments.
“The Famous Five... how wonderful!” murmured Anne at last.
“When I think of all the adventures we've already had...” said Dick, “last time during the summer hols, and now at Christmas, I wonder if we’ll have more!”
“Don't worry,” said George cheerfully. “Our adventures are certainly not over. The Famous Five will have plenty more opportunities to shine!”
THE END
~~~~~~
Bonus 2:
(This is the backcover to the 1971 Galaxie edition -- poor Timmy doesn't seem to enjoy the snow too much!)
~~~~~~
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed these little bonuses!
I don't have anything else ready yet and I don't know if I'll have anything up for next week. In any case, posting will resume in 2024. I’ll see you all next year! 💖

System ask game by @/thehuman-ish
📻
🍄 - how did you get your system name?
Someone we used to know suggested Ink Blot.
👾 - funniest out of context system quote?
Literally SO many.
Post by Marcas of some of the funniest ones.
"U beter take yer cake 'n' leave!" - Jojo, when no one had any cake is probably one of the best, 'cause she's four years old, so she just says shit that makes ZERO sense.
🎉 - favorite system holiday?
Birthdays are probably one of them, but another is October 18th, our 1953 poker night anniversary.
🌙 - do you have subsystems?
One. Anti's Bitches.
☕ - what is switching like for you?
It's usually our eyes going unfocused then going into refocus to trigger a switch, unless we just woke up 'cause then we're still half asleep, which makes it a lot easier 'cause our brain isn't awake yet.
💫 - are there any hobbies you all have?
Doll collecting and writing!
💾 - what's your headcount?
No one literally knows. We have a lot of alters we don't know about or barely have heard, but haven't seen, or know are up there by shit laying around, but no one's seen them. My guess is 100 something.
👻 - do your alters/headmates have different voices or speech patterns?
Yeah, we all do. I got a mix of a southern accent and a New York accent. I don't know how it happened either, hun.
🎨 - does anyone in your system like art?
Yeah! We LOVE source art especially!
🥀 - how easily does the system split?
Very, but to be fair I think it's mainly discovering alters that were there for a long time that we didn't know were there.
🦖 - is your system fictive-heavy? factive-heavy? neutral?
Fictive heavy. Only 6? alters that aren't fictives.
🎵 - what songs remind you of your alters/headmates?
So many...A lot of us have playlists on YouTube lol
❓ - how much amnesia do you experience?
So much. We can't remember anything. So when we want to do something we can NOT switch or else we'll forget.
🎮 - what do your alters/headmates do in their free time?
We watch a lot of video essays on nostalgic stuff, tv channels, toylines, tv shows, etc.
🪐 - what is headspace like for you?
It's VERY complex. We'll have to upload our innerworld map at some point. Shit is insanely connected and vast.
🍐 - are there any non-human alters/headmates?
Only humans really are our factives.
🪫 - what do you all do to recharge?
Lay in bed and cry to Olivia Rodrigo.
🌧️ - how does the system cope with stress?
See above answer.
🔦 - how did you discover your system?
Joey heard Jojo outside of age regression a few years ago and went "WHAT"
🌟 - do any alters help out with school/work?
Whoever is fronting at the time.
🌊 - who are your frequent fronters?
Don't have any atm, but last year when BL was a thing, Ethan and Jack were pretty frequent, they got front stuck a lot 'cause of it, I don't think they know that, though. They also tend to front with Mark, ofc, when we're sick.
🎁 - have you ever bought your alters/headmates things?
Constantly, we spend most of our allowance each month, if not all of it, on stuff for our alters.
☘️ - what are your introjects/fictives usually sourced from?
.....Markiplier's anthology series. We started watching before Dark was even a concept, so it's been a pretty big comfort in our childhood, so over 50, probably 70 or maybe more, of us are sourced from it.

Famous Five Art Nostalgia #LC11
Introductory post
Introduction to ‘Les Cinq’
‘Les Cinq’ Masterpost
⛰️🔦⚱️ Les Cinq dans la cité secrète – The Famous Five and the Secret of the Caves
Original publication date: 1976 (France), 1984 (UK)

(Original cover by Jean Sidobre, 1976)
The Famous Five are donning their Indiana Jones hats to explore a hidden valley and discover an ancient civilisation. Neat!
~~~~~~
Plot summary:
(Disclaimer: All provided translations are my own.)
George is grumbling and griping about spending the holidays in the mountains instead of her beloved seaside. They’re all spending the summer in Blérac, a small village in a mountainous area*, on the advice of Mr Kirrin’s doctor who recommended this peaceful retreat away from the urban racket and crowded beaches. [(*) Note: The specific location is never stated in the text, but based on the toponymy and general geographic features, I would place the (fictional) village of Blérac in the Massif Central, in central France.]
After visiting the village and talking with the locals, the children hear a legend about nearby Mount Grindal, a supposedly hollow mountain pierced with underground passages and a hidden valley once inhabited by a foreign people that was subsequently swept away by a mysterious cataclysm, possibly an earthquake. The Five decide to occupy their holiday by investigating and untangling truth from legend.
They go to Grindal village on their bikes the next day, and get a few more details out of the miller’s daughter: the lost people were hunters, they were governed by a queen named Zulmée who had healing powers, and they knew how to make gold – they had a statue of their queen that was made out of solid gold and was revered like a goddess.
(Alice, the miller’s daughter, tells the Five what she can remember from the legend)
[TRANSLATION: George: What did they live on? Alice: Grandpa said that we didn't know much about them. They went hunting, of course... Your Timothy reminds me of something: the dogs of the lost people didn't bark! Dick: They didn't?! Nonsense!]
(Up Mount Grindal)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: The little group sets off. George (thinking): This cliff deserves to be studied closely! The entrance, even if collapsed or blocked, must be visible somewhere. Narrator: Shortly afterwards, the group reaches the summit of Mount Grindal. Alice: Isn't my country beautiful? George: Very beautiful! But not as beautiful as Kirrin! Timmy: Woof! Julian: Come on, it's time to get back.]
The Five get a final bit of information from Blérac’s schoolteacher the next day, who tells them that the valley name was named Temulka, which meant “rumbling water.” They make another trip to Mount Grindal and examine the mountain more closely; they do find a small cave, but it is both empty and a dead end. On their way out, they meet two young men, Philibert and Jean-Marcel, who are decidedly unpleasant and somewhat threatening (Jean-Marcel even brandishes a folding knife). They order the children not to come back in the area, a warning that the children do not intend to heed.
The Five continue their exploration of the mountain over the next few days, and have a few more altercations with Philibert and Jean-Marcel. The children do not understand their continuing hostility until they discover another cave filled with traps and snares, and they understand that Philibert and Jean-Marcel are poachers. The latter are relieved by the children's assurances that they are not interested in ratting them out, but Anne lets slip that they are looking for the lost valley. Philibert and Jean-Marcel don't really believe that the legend is real, but privately decide to keep an eye on the children just in case.
One night, the whole Kirrin family is shaken awake by an earthquake. No one is hurt but there is some material damage in the village.
(After the earthquake)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: The earth finally stops shaking. Quentin: Let's get dressed and go down to the village. Maybe we can help! Narrator: A sorry sight awaits them, but no one has died. Anne: Could it happen again? Fanny: It's possible, but unlikely!]
The children spend the day helping the villagers before returning to Mount Grindal. The earthquake has caused a fissure to open in the first cave they’d found, and they come back the next day equipped with flashlights, a ball of string and a piece of chalk so as not to lose their way. They discover a room with a wall covered with cave paintings, then a crypt containing an altar, stone benches and abandoned oil lamps.
(An astonishing discovery)
[TRANSLATION: George: Coloured engravings! Anne: Hunters with their dogs! Dick: Black silhouettes! Julian: Could they be the fabled extinct people? Anne: Let's split into two teams. That will double our chances. Narrator: The children resume their exploration. George: Let's keep on searching!]
(The crypt and altar)
[TRANSLATION: Dick: There's another passage behind this stone altar, but it's too late to explore it! Let's join Julian and Anne. Narrator: After telling them about their discovery, Dick and George return to the crypt with Julian and Anne. Julian: Marvellous! Anne: Wonderful! Narrator: The next day, the Five decide to explore further, but... George: Philibert and Jean-Marcel!]
Further exploration leads them to a seemingly dead end, but they can hear water noises behind the wall, and remember that the valley was named Temulka, for “rumbling water.” Knowing that they are close to their goal, they fumble along the rock until finally, Timmy unwittingly triggers an opening mechanism.
(How to get in? 🤔)
[TRANSLATION: Dick: We're literally up against the wall... We could try shouting "Open sesame" like Ali Baba! George: Shut up, you chatterbox! You'd better help me examine this rock. Narrator: Everyone pitches in, even Timmy. Narrator (last panel): Suddenly!...]
The Five enter the Lost Valley, which is illuminated by a crack in the rock in the ‘ceiling’. A waterfall flows into a river that runs through the valley, and the children can see the remains of houses on the other side of the river.
(The hidden valley!)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: Julian, cautious, tries out the opening mechanism of the wall, first on one side, then on the other: a simple pressure at ground level is enough to set it in motion. The Five cross the secret threshold. With each step, they hear the roar of water, then suddenly... George: Temulka! Anne: Hurray! Timmy: Woof!]
(A spectacular view)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: A wide crack at the top of the ‘ceiling’ lets the daylight in. George: Look over there, houses! Quick, let's go down! Dick: The secret city of the lost people.]
The Five cross the river by stepping between the waterfall and the cliff.
(Crossing the waterfall)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: Followed by her cousins and the faithful Timmy, George heads for the waterfall. George (thinking): In some travelogues, I read that it was sometimes possible to crawl between a waterfall and the cliff. Narrator: Thanks to George's memory, imagination and daring, they soon get past the obstacle.]
They explore the dry-stone houses and guess that the lost people was swept away by the river flooding after an earthquake. They come back over the next few days equipped with picks and shovels and quickly find a number of artifacts, including pottery and household utensils made of polished or carved stone, and several gold jewellery items such as a bracelet, a necklace, amulets, an earring and even a violin bow made of gold. Delighted with their findings, the children are now determined to find the legendary golden statue.
However, their enthusiasm is cut short when they find evidence that Philibert and Jean-Marcel have discovered the entrance to the lost valley, although they haven’t figured out the opening mechanism yet. Julian, Dick and Anne want to tell Uncle Quentin, but George doesn’t want the authorities to invade their playground before they can find the statue. Julian compromises and allows her one more day.
At long last, they notice that the cliff behind the waterfall is full of crevices, and that's where they finally find the statue.
(After many days searching, the statue is finally recovered!)
[TRANSLATION: Anne: How beautiful! George: It's beautiful, but given its size, we’re going to have trouble moving it. Julian: Give me a hand! George: If it's not as heavy as we thought, it's because it's hollow. Anne: Hollow?]
Contrary to legend, the statue is not made of solid gold, but hollow, and contains handwritten scrolls, probably recounting the history of the lost people. The Five are celebrating their victory when they are caught unawares by Philibert and Jean-Marcel, accompanied by two accomplices (Julien and Joseph), who have been helping them keep an eye on the Five all this time. Dick, Anne and George are overpowered after a valiant fight, but Julian is still wrestling Philibert when the latter loses his balance and falls into the river. Philibert can't swim very well and calls for help. Julian organises the rescue and, with all of them working together, including George and Timmy boldly jumping into the water, they manage to save him. Philibert apologises and promises to be a “good guy... like [George]” from now on. The statue is brought to Blérac, the children tell George's parents their extraordinary tale, and the authorities are informed. A museum will soon open in Grindal.
Cover art through the ages:
(Disclaimer: This is not an exhaustive list; sometimes the dates are difficult to pinpoint; and I have purposefully not included editions that re-used similar cover art, with differences only in layout and font style.)
(Cover art by Jean Sidobre, Hachette, 1982 – minor layout changes compared to the original 1976 version)
(Yves Beaujard, Hachette, 1989 – the hidden valley! I think the Five are all looking so devastated because they can’t see any way to cross the river and reach the houses on the other side… Also, please note that, despite the sky blue background, this scene does NOT occur outside but inside the moutain!)
(Paul Gillon, Hachette, 1989 – adventurous explorers! I would advise Julian to cover up his camera before getting nearer that waterfall!)
(Munch and Prunier, Hachette, 2000 – I love these warm tones, they give such a good atmospheric feel!)
(Frédéric Rébéna, Hachette, 2016 – behind the waterfall)
