Best games for mental health&relax?

As someone who deals with anxiety and depression when I want to relax or am just feeling low and drained I’ll usually choose what others would consider “cozy games” because I don’t want any stress from shooters, strategy games, or anything that has a lot of stakes. I’ll do switch games for now since it’s my main console but I do have a 3ds, psvita, and my computer so I’ll make a list of those games later 💕

So my favorite games to relax to are:

~ stardew valley~ (you already knew this was coming) it’s just a really cute game with lots of options on how you can spend your time. You can farm, fish, forage, travel the mines, talk to the towns people, interact with love interests. There is just a lot to do in it and it has a really cozy small town cottagecore vibe that a lot of people find relaxing. Amazing replay value. I have like four different lives just so I can choose different farms, partners, things like that.

~ animal crossing~ (second most obvious answer) we all know animal crossing is a chill low stakes game that has a lot of similar elements I listed for stardew valley. You get to interact with cute little animals, decorate your house and character, forage, fish, find fossils, shop. It’s just a relaxing and positive game and is very popular for a reason. Idk about replay value because I really couldn’t imagine deleting my island tbh.

~ fashion dreamer~ if you like cute dress up type games this one is a decent lil game. It’s got lots of different styles for whatever your lil fashion heart desires and you basically walk around dressing up characters and they rate your outfits. It’s from the creators of style savvy and while it’s super cute I would wait for it to go on sale because it’s a bit overpriced imo. Style savvy is definitely the way to go if you have a ds/3ds. Still cute though. Don’t know about replay value because I’m fairly new to the game and haven’t come close to finishing or restarting anything.

~ unpacking~ this one is pretty cute and definitely a game that helps with anxiety. It’s a relaxed little puzzle game that unlocks parts of the story as you go along organizing each room to your home. You can try to solve the puzzles or you can just organize the furniture to your liking. Either way you want to play it’s super cute and relaxing and has some decent replay value after you complete it.

~calico~ super cute game where you run a cat cafe in a magical town with unique characters, little missions, and lots of cats you can pet and play with. There is magic, desserts, and you can ride giant cats like horses. Super soothing game. Character customization and decorating your cafe. The only drawback is it can get a bit glitchy but for the cuteness and the price I have no complaints. The music is really cute too. Not sure about replay value because my cafe is so cute I wouldn’t want to start over.

~coffee talk~ you run a coffee shop in the future and talk to all the incoming guests and learn their stories as you give them their coffee. This one is super relaxing and how I like to spend my evenings before bed if I want that extra cozy time to destress and relax. Cute art as well with different species and how they interact. I haven’t restarted yet but I’m sure there will be replay value with just how cozy and in depth the story is.

~rune factory 4 remastered~ this was originally a 3ds game they remastered for the switch and it’s so amazing that they did. One of my favorite 3ds games that is an offshoot of the harvest moon series with very pretty art, farming, cooking and crafting, romance, monster fighting, and just really fantastic story telling. Very cozy and hard not to get sucked into. Such a gorgeous game imo. Fantastic replay value.

~good pizza, great pizza~ you run a lil pizza shop and upgrade it to get better ingredients and equipment. Super cute chill game to pass the time and hard not to spend hours mindlessly making pizzas. Haven’t replayed it because I haven’t completed it but I imaging replaying it would be fun because you’re just making pizza and unlocking different ingredients. Relaxing game with cute art.

~monster prom~ cute game where you have to convince one of the monsters to go to prom with you. Funny writing, pretty art, and the ability to romance any gender while choosing your pronouns. It’s funny, the game play is question based, and it’s like little rounds of 15 mins and either you get them to go to prom or you get rejected. Then you get to try again. Replay value is obviously strong because I keep playing it no matter how often I’m rejected 🥲 being real though this game is funny, unique, and worth the price. I just have to beat the first one so I can try the second.

~what comes after~ you play as a character on a train of ghosts and you process the grief of passing to the afterlife and try to learn and console the other ghosts on the train who are passing. Pretty game that is mostly story based and worth a try. I haven’t finished this game so I’m not to sure on the replay value.

~little mouse’s encyclopedia~ a cute little game where you play as a little mouse exploring the outside and the dirt and you spend your time finding other little animals and bugs and plants and you read about them and what they are. Cute little educational game I purchased because I loved the art that ended up being super cute in the long run.

Honorable mentions:

- speed dating for ghosts (cute funny little game where you go on dates with ghosts. Short, sweet, and to the point. Decently priced for how quick you get through the game)

- cattails (you play as a cat that travels through its little territory you that you share with your other cat group. You gather little things, complete missions, scrap with rival cat gangs, and just walk around as a cat. Cute but a bit slow for my tastes.)

-rune factory 5 (don’t get me wrong, I love the fourth one and I’m sure the more I play this one I’ll learn to love it to. The gameplay is just set up a bit different and is a bit more similar to the harvest moon style than the fourth rune factory. The art is gorgeous though I was just hoping for more rune factory and less harvest moon when it came to the actual playing)

The only reason I haven’t purchased and played these games yet is because games aren’t cheap and I need to finish the ones I’ve already purchased. That being said I’ve been looking at a lot of these for a long time and they are definitely going to make this list. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron:

I was a Horse Girl TM, so I watched this movie a million times as a kid. It's honestly the best horse animation I've ever seen, all the backgrounds are gorgeous, and the soundtrack is incredible. Also the plot is anti-colonial/anti "taming of the west". Genuinely cannot pick a favorite scene, but I love the scene where Spirit commits many acts of violence against the US military <3

horsie :) I love how they use actual horse body language instead of just turning them into a dog. Also enjoy how the protags are easily understandable with just body language and neighs. Also the 2d and 3d animation blend seamless.

I cannot begin to tell you what makes this movie so good. It's a corner stone of animated media. The societal commentary. The incredible emotion of not only the story but the animation. The songs. Sound the Bugle makes me cry every time.

This movie was a key part of my childhood and “Sound the Bugle” still makes me tear up.

This is like the greatest horse movie of all time and I will not change my mind. I watched this movie so many times as a kid that both the VHS and first cd I had for it got ruined and we had to replace it with another cd LOL. I once convinced my teacher to let us watch it in class because it had a few scenes with Native Americans and we were learning about them at the time(It's about the old west and the expansion of the United States westward so it has some Native American characters but def not enough to make it a Native American film, but it does have positive representation I think?) The main character is the horse Spirit, a lead stallion for a herd of mustangs. His thoughts are narrated but he doesn't actively talk and the horse behaviors are pretty realistic, also the ART of it all, James Baxter was one of the lead animators for this film and his work is incredible, and hand done. Some of the behind the scenes stuff in the extras makes the animation look 3d its so good, and the camera work is also insane. As a horse obsessed child this movie was a staple for me, and I prefer it even over live action movies with actual horses. ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK OH MY GODDD how can I almost forget, the soundtrack for this movie goes so hard, I used to use some of the songs as hype music not even lying.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines:

It’s in its core about family, how we can drift and argue. Not because of one true fault, but because we are different. It shows how being weird and different don’t make you less of a family while not demonizing people who do have more stereotypical ‘perfect’ families. I think it portrays our humanity and the way we bond and what we do for those we love, what we sacrifice, so well. It’s so funny and so sweet.

It's funny and the family is neurodivergent and it's just really nice v good time it looks like anti technology at first but its clearly more of a criticism on capitalism I just really like that movie its pretty to look at.

It's funky!!! hang on, bullet point list time: - has such a unique and expressive animation style - has a lot of pop culture references that don't really feel overbearing - has honestly one of the best family dynamics in a movie I've seen???? - realistic characters!!! with realistic and interesting character arcs!!! - absolutely hilarious. makes me laugh every time i watch it :) - comedic villain! gotta love me one of those. also she's badass for a smartphone so - tHERE ARE FURBIES - basically it's very chaotic but also heartwarming, and it's honestly my favourite movie :D

Heartwarming story about family! Also kickass animation

Very good stylized animation. Well written and designed characters. Super funny and sooo heart warming. Fucking rad action scenes (again the animation is fantastic). The story comes together well, it's just quite well written. + Protective dad character who's not annoying as hell (that's rare!). I love every part of when they're at the dinosaur museum thing.

started watching the "great pretender" anime and it's soo good... visually it's 10000/10, it's honestly 1 of the most visually gorgeous and stylish anime ive ever seen, like the art direction is FANTASTIC😭 every bg frame has me gasping in awe like the colors and shapes are soo good... the chara design/art style is also super nice, v angular and stylized... music is jazzy and fun too... i think it would be worth watching just for the aesthetics alone but the story and charas r also rly engaging too?? im glad the visuals aren't wasted on a shit show... i love the mc so much 😭😭 he's so cute... i am so endeared...

Group Discussion: This Ravenous Fate

As we near the creepy time of the year, we figured vampires would be awesome for our group discussion. This Ravenous Fate was an excellent pick and was definitely an impressive debut from Hayley Dennings.

Publisher's Summary: It's 1926 and reapers, the once-human vampires with a terrifying affliction, are on the rise in New York. But the Saint family's thriving reaper-hunting enterprise holds reign over the city, giving them more power than even the organized criminals who run the nightclubs. Eighteen year-old Elise Saint, home after five years in Paris, is the reluctant heir to the empire. Only one thing weighs heavier on Elise's mind than her family obligations: the knowledge that the Harlem reapers want her dead.

Layla Quinn is a young reaper haunted by her past. Though reapers have existed in America for three centuries, created by New World atrocities and cruel experiments, Layla became one just five years ago. The night she was turned, she lost her parents, the protection of the Saints, and her humanity, and she'll never forget how Elise Saint betrayed her.

Our discussions can be a little spoilery so beware!

As we often do, let’s start with the cover and the design of the book. What stood out to you all?

Crystal: I haven’t seen a final copy, but the ARC has a gorgeous cover and I loved the pattern on the endpapers and chapter divisions. A hint of that is at the top and bottom edges of the cover. It incorporates the lotus that is found in the Saint family seal. There are a lot of details to notice, but to me the overall effect drips with passion, blood, and danger.

Audrey: What I loved most about the cover design is that when you look at it closely, it screams historical vampire book. There’s the hint of art deco-style wallpaper, the opulent jewelry, the roses, and of course blood splashed everywhere. It was either going to be vampires or a murder mystery, and it turned out to be both! That’s fantastic design by Nicole Homer and art by Colin Verdi.

K. Imani: Yes Audrey! You truly know what you can expect from the novel based on this gorgeous cover. My favorite part of the cover is the roses that are white tipped with red which, to me, symbolizes the tarnishing of innocence. Layla’s specifically as her innocence was taken from her when she was turned into a reaper and Elise’s throughout the novel. The dripping jewelry is just beautiful.

Setting plays a huge role in this story. What particular places stood out to you? Or what aspects of those places made an impact?

Crystal: The Cotton Club was a place that really caught my attention, particularly as Layla compared it to a circus. The way that white people looked at and treated Black girls on the street was significantly different than how it happened in that space. It also pulsed with light, music, life, and debauchery so of course it was intriguing.

K. Imani: Being that the novel was set in Harlem is what drew me to the novel initially. 1920’s Harlem is one of my favorite historical eras because it was such an amazing time of Black art and culture and so any novel that is set in this time period makes me happy. I love the mention of all of the different neighborhoods described as they were way back then as it was described as the Harlem that I’ve seen in pictures.

Audrey: Like K. Imani, I really enjoyed that it was set in the 1920s. This Ravenous Fate did a great job of depicting the highs of the Roaring Twenties (advances in tech/science, the glitz and glam of clubs/speakeasies, a booming economy, etc.) while also making sure we got to see the lows, too (unethical medical experimentation, lynchings/race massacres, organized crime, corrupt politics, etc.). Seeing 1920s Harlem from a Black (fictional fantasy/horror) lens was fantastic, especially since a lot of common perception of the 1920s is very white. I also appreciated Elise’s occasional asides comparing her treatment in Paris vs Harlem as a Black teenager despite her family’s wealth.

The vampires, or reapers, have a lot of similarities to those from other tales. Was there anything you noticed that made this unique among other vampire lore?

Crystal: What fascinated me was the give and take. The reapers take the blood, but they can also share things through the process. There is pain, but also attraction and pleasure. There seemed to be a heightened amount of sensuality in that experience of taking and giving.

K. Imani: You know I love vampires so I loved Dennings’s take. I liked that they didn’t have to drink to kill, that a bite doesn’t necessarily change a person, and that they can use their bites to heal. I also loved that the reapers can eat! It showed that the reapers were still human, but really needed a different food source to sustain their bodies. This was such a fun and unique take on vampire lore and Dennings absolutely killed it.

Audrey: I haven’t consumed a ton of vampire content, but I really liked how the prologue told us flat out that the reapers were made by people in what would become the U.S.: “She was remade with spite. The first of her kind, her humanity stripped away and pumped full of poison and depravity in a laboratory. … She was as new as America, a reincarnation of its greatest evils, comfortable in corporeal sin.” That set the tone so well for more unethical medical experiments and corrupt people doing terrible things to cling to power and try to impose control over others.

The characters experience a lot of death and violence, but this is also a love story. What did you enjoy about Layla and Elise’s complicated relationship?

Crystal: I definitely appreciated the many layers of their relationship. The friendship and time that they’d had together over the years made everything hold so much more weight. The anger was stronger, but so were all of the emotions. One line that really got me from their early days was, “You’re my best friend. I don’t want to do life without you.” The stakes were pretty high between them.

K. Imani: I had mixed emotions about their relationship because there was so much hurt between them, but there was also so much love. Like Crystal, I appreciated how they had to learn how to trust each other and be open with each other in order to solve the mystery. Their story is a lesson in forgiveness and moving forward. To have that in a YA novel, a vampire one at that, was lovely.

Audrey: I loved that they had been such good friends and then had real, painful reasons to become enemies and be separated from each other. I loved that to varying degrees they both still missed their earlier relationship and hated that they missed it. Watching Elise and Layla learn how they each had (and hadn’t) changed as they tried to solve the murder mystery was a treat because we got to see the longing they had for their shared past—and eventually what they had for each other in the present as they got to know each other in the present. I like that it took quite a bit of time for them to admit their feelings for each other.

Another very interesting relationship of an entirely different kind is that between Elise and her father. Thoughts?

Crystal: I hope that not many readers can connect to such a relationship, but I’m afraid there are a lot of folks wandering around who have put a lot of effort into reshaping themselves to please or impress a parent. The mental and emotional gymnastics of trying to please him and keep believing the best of him were pretty intense and frustrating to watch.

K. Imani: The only word I can come up with is oof. Their relationship was so toxic and I felt so sorry for her. Like you said Crystal, I hope not many people can relate to the relationship but we do know of folks who try so hard to fit into their parent’s expectations that they start to lose themselves. I actually feel like Layla and Elise’s relationship was somewhat of a nice counterbalance because they had to work to build trust in each other and that brought about Elise’s confidence, allowing her to see how horrible her relationship with her father was. He was just such a horrible man that everytime he was in a scene I just wanted him gone.

Audrey: Oh, Elise’s dad made me so upset. I didn’t realize at first that something was wrong in Elise’s point of view, but about the point where he named her his heir, I started realizing that things were actually much worse than a stern 1920s dad being disappointed in his kid. The slow building of cracks in their relationship hurt, especially once it became clearer to me that her dad was keeping her in the dark about important information. I was so relieved when Elise finally admitted that her father wasn’t the man she had thought he was.

What’s next on your reading journey?

Crystal: Another thriller that I have on my list is Looking for Smoke by K.A. Cobell. I’m also looking forward to reading Abdi Nazemian’s newest release Desert Echoes. On a lighter note, I’m also eager to get my hands on Guava and Grudges by Alexis Castellanos. I tend to gravitate toward books featuring food and especially when that food involves baked goods.

K. Imani: I just finished reading Love Requires Chocolate by Ravynn K. Stringfield (look for my review) and have yet to decide on my Halloween reads yet, but I’m sure I will soon.

Audrey: The Witch of Wol Sin Lake by Lena Jeong is next up on my YA reading list. I’m also hoping to pick up a horror title or two for October—I’ve got my eye on The Hysterical Girls of St. Bernadette’s by Hanna Alkaf.

!!! YOOOOO OKAY I GOTCHU ANON. Buckle up bc my 20 years of being a Pokemon fan is about to kick in

As for where to start with the games--this is all really depending on how your own personal playstyle! Do you like games that are more easy going and light on plot? Or do you like ones with heavy amounts of story? Or do you prefer games that are a perfect blend of the two? Pokemon's got a mixed bag of all of the above so you really can't go wrong

If you're into that really nostalgia feel I'd recommend starting out with the first Pokemon game I ever played as a kid, which was Pokemon Emerald! You can actually play this for free by downloading a Gameboy Advance emulator and the Emerald ROM. I have a lot of fond memories of Emerald and it's still one of my favorite games to date. I actually even prefer Emerald over its remakes (Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) bc it just doesn't quite hit the same lol. I think even without having played Emerald as a kid it'll just spark that nostalgic feeling? It's that kind of game, at least to me :")

Going off of that if you REALLY want to hit nostalgia central and start where it all began, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen is also a good game to start out with. It's a remake of Pokemon Red/Blue, which were the first ever Pokemon games that were made. Personally I'm not a super huge Gen 1 fan bc I feel like it's been WAY overdone at this point (it's had two remakes already) but if you've never played a Pokemon game again it's definitely a good starting point. It's barely got any plot so it's really a game you can just dive into and enjoy without focusing too hard on the story. AND as an added bonus, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver is the direct sequel to Gen 1 (and a remake of the original Gold/Silver/Crystal) so I'd definitely play that one as well, it's lots of fun!

Of course I will also recommend Pokemon Black/White and Black 2/White 2, which is generation 5 and my FAVORITE mainline Pokemon games of all time. BW released right before the transition to the 3D games so it still has sprite art. It's a GORGEOUS game honestly and I think it's really well balanced with story VS gameplay. It's got great characters and fantastic design elements (with everything honestly like the Pokemon designs are great, the character designs are great, the city/town designs are great, etc) and the most KICKASS soundtrack ever (looking at you Driftveil City AKA Toothless dancing meme music). I could go on and on and on about Gen 5 for hours lmao I really hold it near and dear to my heart. Also it's one of the very few games that actually has a sequel which I LOVE. BW2 takes place two years after BW and I love the story and character progression 🥰

Shouting out Pokemon Platinum as well, I know it's a huge fan favorite and honestly I also love it very much!! Platinum came out before BW did so it's got that early DS era feel to it. It's got a decent plot and classic fun gameplay elements. Also Pokemon Legends Arceus which ties directly into Platinum as its prequel (but you should play Platinum first? I know it's confusing lol). PLA is SUPER fucking fun, it's got a completely different gameplay style and mechanic than regular Pokemon games, and it ties in with Platinum so well.

And to my last few recommendations -

Pokemon Sun and Moon!! There's mixed feelings about this one from a lot of people but it's one of my personal favorites...I think people dislike that it's so plot heavy, there's a LOT of dialogue even when starting the game so if you're not into that I wouldn't go with SM. But I LOVE games that are heavy with plot and SM just does it so well. The characterization is really well done and I love watching Lillie go through her development arc 🤧 But yeah it's SM NOT Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon which are like. The same games but Worse. USUM took SM's plot and stomped all over it so I would not go for those lol

And, of courseeee. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet! These are the most recent mainline games to release and ohhh my god. Is the game laggy and bugged out as hell? Yes. Is it also fucking FANTASTIC and has made me cry multiple times? ALSO yes. If you don't mind occasional shitty graphics then please please PLEASE play SV. The open world aspect is a ton of fun, the new Pokemon designs are so charming, the characters are wonderful, and the STORY??? The plot literally blew my socks off the first time I played it. SV endgame you will always be the king of my heart. It's definitely heavier than any previous Pokemon game and it had me reeling for DAYS after. The story is just. So so so good. And we get a continuation of the story kicking ass in the DLC. I love SV to death it really redeemed Pokemon after the disaster that was gen 8 for me (and it's REALLY fun to shiny hunt in).

And LAST but certainly not least. My favorite Pokemon game of all time period ever in the history of Pokemon. Not a mainline game but a side/spinoff game--Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky!! If you want the classic Pokemon experience I probably wouldn't start with this since it's so different from the mainline games but I'd 10000% play it after finishing your first Pokemon game. It's a dungeon crawler, you get to BE a Pokemon, the music is phenomenal, the gameplay is phenomenal, the story is PHENOMENAL, everything about it is incredible and I will love this game until the day I die. I CANNOT recommend it enough. It's so so SO good and it means so much to me I can't even. Please play PMD Sky this goes to everyone who hasn't played it I prommy it's worth it

So basically:

Easy games with no/light plot: FRLG, Emerald, HGSS

Games with a perfect blend of actual gameplay and plot: BW/B2W2, Platinum, PLA

Games that hit HEAVY with plot/storyline: SM, SV, PMD Sky

Honestly you really cannot go wrong no matter where you start out. Even if it's with one of the games I DIDN'T personally recommend, all the mainline games have their own unique charm and each generation has its die hard fans (UNOVA GANG RISE). I've played all of them and they're all enjoyable!

As for the anime, my personal recommendations are the XY saga and the SM saga! The SM saga is my ultimate favorite, it's really cute and charming and fun, with some heavier plot arcs sprinkled in so it's a good blend between lighthearted stuff and more serious story. XY is VERY plot-heavy especially in the latter part, there's a lot of character development and crazy stuff going on, so I'd go for that one if you want to get hit hard with Feels. I haven't watched as much of the anime so I'm sure other people would recommend other seasons (I know the original saga, the Hoenn saga and the DP saga are fan favorites).

I'd also recommend watching the sub instead of the dub,, especially if you haven't grown up watching the Pokemon anime like me the dub is VERY hit or miss. I prefer subs as well bc the dub actually cuts out a LOT of stuff? I know for SM they had fun extra little bits at the beginning and ending of each episode that the dub just. Didn't include. For some reason? Like they'd cut out entire scenes. Idk. It's up to you either way tho ^^

And that is my introduction to Pokemon list.........if anybody has anything to add feel free! These are just my personal recommendations based off of what I like so naturally not everyone will agree lol. If you have any questions anon don't hesitate to ask, I'm always down to talk Pokemon. I’m rewatching transformers animated, just finished episode 3, and I’m quickly remembering why it’s my favourite transformers show 🥹

I just love everything about it so much - the characters are all fun to see bounce off eachother, it’s funny as hell, the animation in the action scenes is gorgeous and even the normal animation looks nice, I love the art style (that’s more just personal taste), the music and sound direction is fantastic, and the voice acting is incredible!! And that’s not even mentioning the best part of this show - the writing!! It’s so good AHHHHHHH ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕💕💕💕✨✨✨✨✨✨

I also love how rewatchable this show is - knowing all the reveals, it becomes obvious that certain details were there from the beginning! OKAY SO!! DEAD PLATE IS REALLY GOOD AND IM HERE TO RAMBLE ABOUT IT. SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY LMAO

(all excitement aside, this game is best experienced blind imo! its free on itch, and there's no jumpscares [in case thats an issue for u like it is for me lolz]. there is tons of gore (mostly blood with very few organs), so please heed the warnings on the game page if that bothers u!)

okay ive talked about this before, but the art style is just soso gorgeous. the characters are so distinct and expressive, and even the npcs are beautifully designed. the art is, dare i say, tasty ;3

rody is literally the definition of a golden retriever boy (even to a fault!) and i adore his character so much. he's just a silly little guy trying to do his best but also he should really take some time to care for himself like manon suggested :(

vincent is also fantastic, i love that he warms up to rody if you continue talking to him, it's really sweet if you uh. ignore the horrors...

no jumpscares but GOD this game is fantastic at building a sense of dread. when the music cut out during the house party bit, i genuinely got nervous. manon's ghost (i assume) being in vince's window was also terrifying and honestly scared me so bad i hesitated to put my headphones back on lmao. i do love the lack of jumpscares, but that might just be my cowardice talking ahaha

i got the normal ending on my first go (as i assume most people do), and when manon didn't pick up when rody called her i knew immediately that she was the steak that you get at the end of that sequence. it felt really rewarding to find out that was true in the "best served hot" ending!!

learning how rody felt about manon made me super sad, esp after the post credit scene where she breaks up with him. again, i agree with her. bro needs some serious self care and needs to learn that its ok to care for himself too :(

it's so bad of me, but for anything i can't make using shape layers, i literally just go on google images and grab smth from the most convenient png stock site 💀 would recommend pexels for stock images and videos though! + idk if this counts as a resource, but for giffing/editing ideas, i usually scroll through pinterest or watch vids on my insp playlist.

oh boy, get ready. okay. in no particular order! @aaarondessner has such an eye for composition and dynamics--his still compositions explode with movement and it's so mesmerizing to see. @oscar-piastri's stuff is so clean, i feel like i could print her graphics out on regular printer paper and they'd come out glossy. @queerbenched never misses, ever; i swear his eyes are powered by some sort of extraterrestrial power like howwww do you even get those colours. incredible portfolio. @maranello is offline atm but forever she holds goat status when it comes to editing! just an incredible aesthetic vision with an intuitive sense of how every element works thematically and visually. simultaneously astounding and painful to watch her work. @josefnewgayden is ofc one of my favourites ever; so so much talent packed into one person! fir's gfx sets are truly some of the most well-composed, well thought-out, and stunningly creative pieces i've seen, but also their simpler gifsets shine--all vibrance, no oversaturation or overstimulation. seeing fish colours is possible at josefnewgayden dot tumblr dot com. @brawn-gp too has a fantastic eye for colour--they can make even the shittiest footage possible look stellar and crisp with little to no compromise! @cal-kestis is a legend on tumblr ofc but truly i'm always blown away by her edits! her experimentation and bold style pop out of my screen and leave my jaw on the floor. in a similar vein, i'm obsessed with @padme-amidala's work too--literally don't know how she coaxes the kinds of colours she does out of star wars footage, and her compositions always look so pleasing to the eye. @husbono has the biggest brain in the game! so many edits of hers live seared behind my eyelids--they're the definition of gorgeous, and they have this almost oil painting look to them, i don't know that i'm not looking at hyper-realistic studio art. @margaretacarter is the goat of giffing, full stop; her creative vision is unparalleled and there's so much personality to her sets!

It's a Ghibli movie, and my favorite scene is Ponyo running to Sosuke's house

It just has such cosy vibes and it reminds me of childhood.

Childhood favorite :) I rented it from my local library a lot, it was always the first thing i wanted. Being a studio Ghibli film, it's very beautiful and I love all the water involved. It's a favorite I share with my little sister now!

Song of the Sea:

The animation and backgrounds are so pretty! The music is great! It tells a nice story using the fantastical elements to tell a relatable story about grief and how it effects families! It’s Irish!

It has a big fluffy dog, seals of various sorts, and VERY GOOD MUSIC.

It is beautifully animated, I just love the paper book feel to it! The mythical character designs make me swoon like a himbo husband for his lovely wife. The story is about a family tragedy and the characters dynamics make it so no one in the family is really a bad guy, just not great choices. I like how the brother has to get over himself for his sister and how she stays with their family even with their faults. It just a charming little story I found again from my childhood.

Star Wars Visions Volume 2 was GREAT!!!!!!! Every studio did a FANTASTIC JOB. “Sith” literally made me drool with the art style. “Screecher’s Reach” shoutout to the banshee myth, that was haunting and had an ending I did NOT expect. “Aau’s Song” was maybe actually my favorite tho because MUSICAL FORCE POWERS?!?! IT IS ABOUT DAMN TIME. And the art and animation was just gorgeous. But yeah…the whole thing overall was excellent. Happy May the 4th!!!!

It's the end of the year 2022 and honestly? Fuck this year from the bottom of my heart in terms of jobs, real life, and all of that bullshit. But you know what made this year bearable and actually survivable? My friends. It's been a tough year for everyone who I've known and I want to extend my hugs, my love and my adoration for every single one of you. You're amazing, you're powerful, and I hope that your 2023 will be a fantastic year.

There are many people who I want to give a shout-out for being the amazing beans that you are. I love you all and you are absolutely gorgeous. There are some people who I want to give some heart-to-heart special messages because all of these people helped me survive this year of 2022 and I cannot thank all of you enough for this.
