Picardsims' 3k CAS Challenge
Sooooo I hit 3000 followers!! In order to celebrate, I invite everyone to participate in my little CAS challenge/contest!!!
Rules: Pick an apartment with a backstory that speaks to you (or multiple) and make a sim/family (your pick on whether you want to make the whole family or just one sim) who could live there. CC allowed, anything is allowed really. In two weeks (so, 22nd of April) I'll pick 3 of my favorites to get a prize! If you win, you can tell me any 3 build-buy items and I'll make them for you! (deco, unless it's something I 100% know how to make functional :>) In order for me to see it use the tag #picardsims3k (and tag me!! I'll see it sooner probably but I'll look at everything in the tag promise) Without further ado:
Apartment #1: Ro Kaya 62/1
Sims: 2 This apartment belongs to an elderly… couple? Two friends? Nobody knows and they're too scared to ask. You can find the tenants of this apartment in the hallway or on their balcony, keeping tabs on the neighborhood. Nothing gets past them. If you get on their good side, you will get invited for tea and get treated to fascinating stories from the past.
Apartment #2: Ro Kaya 62/2
Sims: 5 Is there enough space in this apartment for this married couple, their twins and their toddler? Definitely not. However, they just finished renovating it when they got pregnant (may or may not have been an accident), so it's not like they're going to move now… How long can the parents survive sharing their bedroom with their little one?
Apartment #3: Ro Kaya 62/3
Sims: 1 Their whole life, this Sim has wanted to be an artist. That didn't sit right with their straightlaced doctor parents, who refused to support them through art school. On impulse they moved to Tomarang and befriended a local painter, who allowed them to stay in their old apartment. Now that they're an award-winning graphic designer, their parents are finally trying to reconnect. Will they let them back in? Or is their chosen family the only one in their heart?
Apartment #4: Ro Kaya 64/1
Sims: 2 A single father raising a teenage daughter… What could go wrong? He's obsessed with plants, she loves gaming with her friends. She's mad he keeps putting plants in her room, he's mad she keeps putting laundry on the floor. However, no matter how hard they fight, there's nothing a midnight session of making pancakes together cannot fix.
Apartment #5: Ro Kaya 64/2
Sims: 2 After their grandmother passed, moving into her apartment was a dream come true for this Sim. Not so much for their partner. You see, grandma ran a very popular bakery, and they're supposed to inherit the business — sounds great, except they don't like baking all that much. One partner whose entire life has revolved around cakes and cookies, one partner who only uses the oven to make frozen pizza — can they handle the challenge? Or will their relationship crumble like bread with too much flour?
Apartment #6: Ro Kaya 64/3
Sims: 5 Two couples and one single person, this apartment sure is crowded. However, when you're just starting college, that doesn't sound all that bad — the rent is low, and there's always someone to party with! However, they'll soon learn it's not all loud music and cheap drinks — there's a line for the bathroom and you're never sure whose turn it is to vacuum (not yours though, that's for sure).
Remember: the tag is #picardsims3k, the deadline for the prize is 22nd of April (feel free to keep it going longer though!) and I'm incredibly thankful for each and every person who follows me (I am not kidding though dm me pictures of those pets I know you have them)
Enjoy! kotpicard

Jewellery from Art Nouveau to 3D Printing

Skira, Milano 2018, 264 pages, 25x29cm, ISBN 978-88-572-373-4
euro 45,00

A chronological compendium of the masterpieces of 20th-century jewelry
Jewellery: From Art Nouveau to 3D Printing presents an extraordinary collection of jewels and jewelers from the start of the 20th century to the present day. The book is a global journey through taste and fashion, taking the reader from France to Russia, from the United States to Italy, from Britain to Germany and from the Netherlands to Scandinavia. Conceived of as an ideal gallery of the masterpieces of 20th-century jewelry, this volume proceeds chronologically. It begins with the Art Nouveau masterpieces of Lalique, Vever and Fouquet, followed by the Art Deco elegance of Cartier, Boucheron, Tiffany, Mario Buccellati and Fabergé. After World War II, Van Cleef & Arpels and Bulgari's whimsical inventions of the 1950s share space with the designs of the Dutch avant-garde and the artist's jewels of the 1960s. The book closes with the new millennium, with the intermingling of art and design and the introduction of new technologies like 3D printing, wearable technology and new modes of distribution and communication. A brilliant historical-critical essay by designer and academic Alba Cappellieri introduces the magnificent selection of pictures, and the objects are accompanied by thorough technical explanations and an exhaustive glossary. Beautifully produced and comprehensively researched, Jewellery: From Art Nouveau to 3D Printing promises to be an indispensable tool for the specialist, the collector and the jewelry-lover alike.

where do people even buy all those teeny tiny cutesy stickers for decorating things? Like you know, when you put a little picture of your blorbo in one of those plastic art card protector sleeves and cover it in cute stickers
is this something I can find at a local craft store or what, what can I do besides look up "mini deco stickers" on etsy if I want a variety of them in some sort of bundle?
#for example if I FOUND a bunch of those plastic card protectors and thought it would be funny to make some of those little blorbo things#arts and crafts#stickers#the dragoon diaries

I am curious to know, do you think rockstar!Eddie gave nepo!baby push presents with all of the girls and if so what would they be👀👀
yes and I haven’t elaborated much besides a few things bc here’s the thing: as much as yes, he’d spare no expense like the more expensive it it doesn’t mean it’s better for her. like shes got everything, grew up with everything she ever wanted, and money just isn’t gonna impress her. out buying or stupid shit like that she’ll just be like… ok???
it has to be something sentimental ya know? so I’ve said eddie started getting the flowers pressed and framed from the three wedding bouquets and then kept it going with the baby shower ones too. I really think each girl would have a different flower and then eddie gets it pressed bc he’s sappy and sweet and she decorates her office with them. they just mean the world to her bc they’re preserved and just remind her of the important dates.
I think he’d get her something unique after they decide to start naming the girls after places that they were conceived.
like he’s insane so he bought the ‘return of persephone’ painting bc some art gala person told him it signified a bond between a mother and daughter so he was sold pretty easily lmao. proudly told you that and it’s hung up in your living room (bc I really picture the house to have like a dark art deco kinda vibe a little eclectic).
for kensington, the inspiration came later. you were always saying you wanted to remodel the backyard and have it look brighter. more homey now that you had babies. so he learned that kensington palace was famous for its gardens, and he found the plants that they had and had it replicated (on a very tiny scale) in the back yard. forget me nots, tulips, dahlias, lavender all planted in rows that mimicked the gardens and lining a little path. it’s still there today even as the kids are grown.
for the twins… it was fucking hard lol. bc italy is gorgeous but it’s really difficult. he ended up getting a gold necklace with four tiny pendants (added two more for the other girls later) each with their birthstones made in italy. it was a finer and pricier item but you loved it. you still wear it a lot.
zahra was easier bc eddie quite literally bought the egyptian perfume for you in bulk lol.
vega was the hardest for eddie bc it was your last baby. he decided to take your wedding band, and have the birthstones of the girls added a long with diamonds to fill in the rest. it wasn’t the best, in his opinion, but you thought it was sweet bc it was more symbolic and touching.
those are just a few 🫶

In her 13 years as creative director of the French jewellery house Boucheron, Claire Choisne’s mood boards have featured some unusual suspects.
This January, she introduced the latest high jewellery collection with a picture of Prince Philip waving at crowds during the coronation in 1953.
He’s decked out in his Admiral of the Fleet finery, decorated with military medals and orders of chivalry, white ribbons fluttering at his shoulders.
‘OK, Prince Philip is not my absolute muse – but I love this picture,’ says Choisne via video call from the Tucson Gem Show, where she is shopping for the stones that will feature in the house’s 2026 collections.
She was drawn to the unexpectedly feminine details of the late Duke of Edinburgh’s ceremonial uniform.
‘You feel the power and the strength, but at the same time, there are all these couture details: bows, ribbons, embroidery. It’s a paradox.’
She decided it was the perfect way to interpret the well-trodden high jewellery theme of ‘couture.’
‘I didn’t want to do something too girly or cheesy. I wanted to give strength to the pieces. When I saw this picture, I said to myself, “OK, now I know how to manage the creation of this collection.”’
The resulting 24-piece collection, The Power of Couture, is the latest chapter in Boucheron’s annual Histoire de Style series, which sees Choisne reinterpret designs or themes from the house’s 166-year history.
Its founder, Frédéric Boucheron, was the son of a draper and so the archive teems with diamond-set bows, ribbons and lace, with gold worked into supple-as-silk scarves.
A lace-like shoulder adornment made circa 1880 was a Belle Epoque predecessor of today’s white gold and diamond epaulettes, whose overlapping loops were inspired by a tiara made in 1902 for the Princess of Wales, later Queen Mary, Prince Philip’s grandmother-in-law.
Clipped across the shoulders, they’re a precious take on the traditional tasselled gold epaulettes of naval uniforms.
They also transform into cuffs; such versatility is a hallmark of the collection.
A set of 15 medal brooches can be strung into a bib necklace of epic proportions.
A rock-crystal and diamond bow can fasten to the shoulder or chest, or be fashioned into a multi-wear necklace, while its central diamond can be plucked off to become a ring.
A braided aiguillette can be worn military-style across the chest, draped around the waist, or disassembled into brooches and a bracelet.
‘In ceremonial attire, there are so many rules that you have to respect. For the collection, I wanted the opposite,’ says Choisne.
‘I wanted people to be able to play freely and design their own style.’
She sees the collection as a ‘kit’ with an almost infinite number of styling combinations.
Her dream, she says, would be for one client to buy the lot. Whether that client is male or female is of little importance.
‘A long time ago, the people who wore high jewellery were men. The maharajas, the tsars, the kings. The biggest and most beautiful pieces were designed for men.’
One of Boucheron’s most famous clients was the Maharaja of Patiala who, in 1928, had his guards cart some 7,571 diamonds and 1,432 emeralds from The Ritz to the Boucheron boutique, to be set into 149 extraordinarily opulent jewels – a commission that inspired New Maharajas, the house’s 2022 Histoire de Style high jewellery collection.
Sir Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of Patiala, GCSI GCIE GCVO GBE (12 October 1891 – 23 March 1938)
'Today,' continues Choisne, 'I don’t want to do pieces for men or for women. I want to make beautiful and meaningful pieces. And I want to show that it’s beyond gender.’
She says that men do buy and wear Boucheron high jewellery, but she doesn’t know the precise proportion of male customers.
‘I almost don’t want to know exactly, because I’m sure of my idea. And maybe we have to show them that it’s a good one.’
Three years ago, Boucheron’s art deco-inspired Histoire de Style collection was photographed on male and female models – a first among Place Vendôme’s traditional maisons.
‘I knew that some of the pieces were even stronger on men. But the idea of it was almost weird at that time. People asked me, “Are you sure, high jewellery on men?” And my answer was, “Yes, definitely,”’ says Choisne.
The Power of Couture collection, conversely, was exclusively photographed on and modelled by women; another deliberately defiant move.
‘When you think of ceremonial attire, you naturally think of men. So I wanted to show the opposite. It doesn’t make sense for me to choose between men and women. Nowadays we can do what we want.’
A pair of embroidery-inspired diamond ferns have an ethereal, Greek goddess-like beauty when worn as a headpiece.
But one can also imagine them pinned to a tuxedo, echoing the actor Regé-Jean Page, who wore a feather-shaped diamond Boucheron brooch at last year’s Oscars.
Although it may take a Liberace-channelling peacock to carry off a lacy diamond collar, even the most bling-averse gentleman could be tempted to affix a few rock crystal and diamond buttons to his dress shirt.
Choisne says Boucheron’s clients span the whole spectrum.
‘It’s the same for men as it is for women: some are more classical, and some are super edgy.’
Culture plays a role. ‘Maybe European men are a bit more traditional, whereas in Asia men can be more open-minded when it comes to style.’
It was important that the Power of Couture collection wasn’t too literal, says Choisne; it couldn’t feel like fancy dress.
A restrained, all-white palette of rock crystal and diamonds helps; she champions texture and detail over bold hues or glitzy brilliance.
The pieces are labelled with their carat weight along with the hours involved in their creation – many run into the thousands.
‘If you put a lot of little diamonds everywhere, it’s easy. It will shine, so you have no doubt that it’s precious,’ says Choisne.
‘But I prefer to find preciousness with purity of design and elegance, which come from the craftsmanship. It’s not about having lots of diamonds. The number of hours is what makes it high jewellery.’
The transformable Noeud bow, for example, is crafted from hundreds of individually cut lines of frosted rock crystal, threaded together through their diamond edging to evoke the texture and fluidity of grosgrain ribbon.
‘It would be much faster and easier to engrave a single piece, but I wanted it to be really flexible. So they cut every little line by hand. Each one is a different length. It’s crazy work to achieve that.’
That’s 2,600 hours of crazy work, to be precise.
Elsewhere, sandblasted rock crystal is knitted together into the flexible, five-strand Tricot choker.
’The idea was to give an illusion of knit work,’ says Choisne. ‘The unpolished rock crystal gives the feeling of softness, like wool.’
The Médailles feature grosgrain-effect rock-crystal ribbons, from which hang 15 medallions of sculpted rock crystal overlaid on to beds of brilliant-cut diamonds.
‘We cut the rock crystal with the glyptic technique – it’s much more complicated than engraving. Then we set diamonds underneath so they are a bit blurred. For me, it’s more magical.’
It’s clear that Boucheron’s craft workers relish Choisne’s technical challenges.
They are currently making the pieces that will launch in July 2025 (Boucheron presents two high jewellery collections a year), while Choisne is finalising designs for 2026 and developing her ideas for 2027.
It’s not always easy to sleep with so many different concepts buzzing around her brain, she admits.
Her approach to design mirrors the demands she asks of her atelier. ‘I don’t love it when it’s too easy.’

NE Vacation lets gooo
So I'm still really worn out but less than I ended up being yesterday so HERE is a post about the trip I just went on! It's gonna get real big and have a couple photos so I'll just go ahead and cut it here lol
-We went to visit family in Rhode Island...I have been to NYC a couple times but not any further north than that so anything in New England was a brand new experience. I was not a fan of the humidity (pretty arid here at home lol) but I like ocean and forest so I thought it was super pretty! I could not believe all the flowers and blue/purple hydrangeas EVERYWHERE
-We did fly in and out of Providence airport...but since it is super tiny we had to do connecting flights both ways. Wednesday last week we had to get up at 3 AM (after I had a full work day the day before) to get to the first plane, and on this Tuesday the layover between flights was REAL tight so both travel days were kind of brutal.
-ANYway, we ended up going to the Brimfield Antique Show in Massachussetts for two days. I don't think we covered a quarter of the show, we didn't expect it to be as enormous as it was. I ended up getting an antique inkwell shaped like a shell (it rotates on its stand), a metal dog, some vintage postcards (I love old landscape photos and interesting buildings), an old fan with a beautiful mountain painting on the front and a funeral home ad on the back (wtf lol), and a vintage travel guide to Rome with a lot of pictures but everything in Italian.
-Some other family from New York ended up coming with us to the antique show, as my aunt had rented a Vrbo (first time I've been in one) and there was plenty of room. One of those days we got takeout from a local restaurant and there was a machine in there dispensing pokemon cards for 50 cents...I thought "Sure why not" and got one - it ended up being a Dark Energy card instead of actually anything so I thought that was extremely funny
-We also went to Boston for a day - very pretty as well! I liked it way more than NYC to be honest. I had NO IDEA there were so many tunnels! Rained on us a ton though it cleared up by the time we did a bus tour. I am a big fan of brutalist architecture so I thought the one government building (the bus tour guide called it the Hurley building, I think) was REALLY cool. Wish I had gotten a picture of it but I was on the wrong side of the bus. Also: Bostonians, I am very sorry but your green line subway train makes possibly one of the worst sounds I've ever heard.
I thought the top of this building, whatever it was, looked very neat. Very art deco.
And this one with the dark windows forming triangle shapes. Not super exciting but I like this kind of thing
Can't forget about the gothic cathedral
Also spotted this cool unicorn at one point
-Uhh, what else did we do....after that we did actually do stuff in RI. Went to Ft Adams, went to Blithewold Manor, did a scenic ocean drive...I love how none of those Beachfront Home buying shows actually show the wild amount of traffic caused by people trying to get to the beach - parking whereever and blocking lanes constantly. The guy actually doing the tour was great and I'm actually quite curious about the history of the area, as I had no idea there were so many pirates o_o

Prompt: sneaky christmas market shenanigans (paraphrasing)
Pairing: Who else but Bab-*i am shot dead with a crossbow before i can finish that sentence but its Them*
Words: 1170
Author’s note: few things- im calling it that bc its almost midnight and that song has been stuck in my head all day. Deal w/it. Again, same au but a different point in the timeline. And if its riddled with mistakes, no it isnt 💙 (ill fix them l8r bc its… midnight) other than that, have fun be good and enjoy [prompt from @almost-a-class-act ]
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Throngs of people milled about the plaza, the low roar of voices melding with the medley of Christmas songs being played from nearly every vendor stall. The evening sky was covered in clouds, the light purple hue that indicated snow would start falling at any moment.
Babe and Gene were arm in arm as they strolled around the market, taking in the sensory experience. They stopped at nearly every booth perusing the handmade items and treats, looking for gifts for friends and family… and themselves. Which is what led them to the small jewelry stall.
“Ooh I bet I can find something for Katie here…” Babe mused, as he tugged Gene with him. Glass cases lined the small space, and a couple of other customers were already browsing the offerings. One case in particular gave them both pause.
Under the glass, in a small section off to one side, was a selection of gold and silver rings that were very clearly designed to be more masculine. They both silently scanned the options. The hand on Babe’s waist Gene had laid there as a guide tightened, but neither said anything before they moved onto the rest of the stall. Babe was in a trance after that, he ended up buying a pair of earrings for his sister but as they exited the little shop, he could still see that ring case. So could Gene.
They had talked about it, but it was always in the future. It was always “One day” “In a few years” “Of course… some day”. It didn’t bother Babe, he believed Gene. They were in a busy part of their lives and would have plenty of time. His life wasn’t going to magically end in four years at 30… but it also wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to ask, to lock in that promise of forever. Everyone already considered them married, why not make it official?
Gene silently offered his arm back to Babe as they continued on their way. They didn’t talk much, except to confirm that they wanted to find something to eat. Babe sought out the cart selling pretzels as big as his head, making them both giggle like children. After snapping a picture of the size comparison, Gene excused himself stating he needed to find a restroom that wasn't a port-a-potty. Babe agreed, and told him where he planned to be.
Once out of Babe’s view, Gene made a quick left back in the direction of the jewelry seller they visited. Thankfully the stall was nearly empty. The young raven haired woman greeted him, recognition in her eyes that let Gene know she remembered him from earlier.
“What can I do for you?” she asked, a warm smile lighting her face. Gene smiled back politely, his hands jiggling in his pockets. His mouth opened for a few seconds but no words came out, and the vendor’s face colored with concern slightly.
“Uh… I was hoping to buy one of your rings actually.” He said after a pause, gesturing towards the case they had seen earlier. The woman nodded and motioned Gene over to look with her.
“Which one were you thinking?” She asked after letting him look for a few moments. After a few more beats of silence, he made his choice.
“That one, with the stones.” He said pointing to a delicate gold band with an art deco design and small diamonds. Not too over the top but perfectly Babe. She nodded, crouching below the table to where her inventory was.
“What size?” She asked.
“Eight.” Gene said automatically, knowing the measurement by heart. She popped up a few seconds later with the box in her hand, opening it to show Gene his selection. He could feel his heartbeat in his throat, he was really doing it.
They walked over to where her register was, and she asked Gene if he wanted a bag for it to which he declined. He opted to just slip the small velvet box into his coat pocket.
“Alrighty, and are you paying with cash or card?” She asked. Gene pulled his wallet out of his pocket, slipping his card across the makeshift counter.
After making one of the most important purchases of his life, Gene exited the stall and took a deep breath. He merged into the crowd, the small box weighing heavy in his pocket. He found Babe about sitting on a bench by the large christmas tree, happily watching people go by. His face lit up when Gene came into his field of vision, and he happily waved him over. Gene sat down and Babe wasted no time pressing a kiss to his lips.
“You were gone a while, did you fall in?” He asked, bumping his shoulder to Gene’s who laughed and shook his head.
“No there was a line, other people had the same idea as me.” He explained. He detested lying, especially to Babe and he felt like he was shitty at it to boot. Babe seemed to believe him though, nodding thoughtfully.
“Where was that restroom at?” Babe asked, causing Gene to sputter for a moment.
“Uh over by City Hall.” He said, trying to remember vaguely where he had seen one on the map. Babe gave a thumbs up.
“10-4, I’m gonna go find it. No clue why I didn’t just go with you before.” He remarked with a shrug. “Oh well, I’ll be back. I’ll find us kettle corn too” He informed Gene, starting in the direction Gene had come from. “Love you!” He called over his shoulder, and Gene laughed.
Babe strode confidently down the lane, his eyes on the prize. He wondered if Gene actually went to the bathroom, or if they both had the same idea and he simply beat Babe to it. In any case, while he was waiting he made up his mind to find that stall and solidify their future.
Stepping inside, the same clerk as before greeted him.
“I’d like to see your men’s rings please.” He requested. The vendor had a knowing smile, and motioned Babe over to the case.
Armed with his newest purchase and a bag of kettle corn, Babe found Gene in the same area as before. He was pursuing a table full of handmade leather goods, listening to whatever the seller was telling him about the products. Babe caught his eye and he politely excused himself.
“Long line?” Gene asked, motioning for Babe to hand him the bag of popcorn. Babe nodded, sighing dramatically.
“The longest.” He confirmed, and gave one last glance around. “Are you ready?” He asked and Gene nodded before wrapping his arm around Babe’s waist.
“Did you get everything you wanted then?” Gene asked and Babe smiled to himself.
“Yeah, did you get anything?” Babe asked and Gene nodded. “Ooh, anything good?” he pressed and Gene smiled softly.
“I think so.” He confirmed, winking at Babe. The rest of the walk was quiet, neither needing words just each other.

Might be oddly specific but does the theatre have any unique architecture? Art? Murals? Interesting pillars? Does it have a homely aesthetic? Anything you'd like to share about the theatre's interior design!
i made myself sad looking up images for this ask :( i found a really beautiful theater that has the exact sort of vibes i picture when i think of Thomas and Avalon's theater but its a picture from before it was remodeled in 2020 so i looked up what the theater looks like now and i.
before -> after
what happened to her :( she used to be so beautiful :( now she looks like post-Bloom Edenbrook :( disgustang
but anyway i think it would have a layout more like this, but with the coloration/vibes/coziness of that first image
also different chandeliers those fucking things r ugly lol lmao
the lobby would have a bunch of art from local artists, plus plenty of seating area that people are free to use even if they don't buy a ticket for a movie. as far as Thomas and Avalon are concerned, loitering is a fake crime that does not exist
as for the auditoriums, just picture in your mind: a theater auditorium. the most Theater Auditorium theater auditorium you can think of. red carpeting, dark red walls, recliner type seating. a balcony at the back that's just two extra rows of seating, this time with more couchlike seats. and wall sconces that look like this
as for exterior, im thinking something like this maybe?
something nice and art deco
i need to try and make their theater in sims again. i tried once a few months ago but gave up bc i struggle w architectural layout in sims

You ever had a diary? I think I always liked the idea of having a diary, journal, or burn book, something that just gives a place for freedom of thought and reflection. But I could never actually find a way that felt good to me to do that. What if I just don’t have anything to write about? What if I have too much to write about? And at that what should I write about to being with, just my feelings or what happened in the day? It was too much for me when I was growing up to fell comfortable doing, especially when I know that I like to take time to make my thoughts come to fruition. But in the last five years I’ve enjoyed it more and come to the conclusion that it didn’t actually matter that I had no thoughts in particular, but that I took to the page when I did. That I had somewhere to personally discuss my interests or show them. Plus as someone who like art tools, I feel theres something to be valued in those too. So I wanna talk about some of the tools I use and what I usually put into my journals, picture references and some of the artists I buy stickers from (but no personal stuff like full entries or personal pictures)!
My journal of choice: Hobonichi Techo Cousin, A5 (5.8"× 8.3"× 0.7")
Hobonichi is probably the most popular choice due to it’s quality and variety in size, I myself have used two different sizes in the past. The Techo Classic and Cousin. I eneded up preferring the options that the Cousin provides being a bigger size and having several options for noting events on a day, etc. To see all the features of the cousin you can see it here: https://www.1101.com/store/techo/2016/planner/all_about/cousin/ What I really preferred was the size difference. The Techo classic wasn’t bad if I didn’t have a lot but it was a problem if I had a big event in my life I wanted to scrapbook or had a lot I wanted to talk about. You may say “What about the opposite then? What if nothing happened?” Well as an artist that leaves me with some more places to draw when I’d like to. Or a page for general scrapbooking. I can figure out more of what to do with a blank page, than a full page. Even then in the Cousin size I have had times I use both pages for a single day or thoughts. The river paper is also well fit for a lot of the pens and markers I use too, I never get leaks through the page and even if I can lightly see through the page it’s not harsh enough that it distracts of makes the new page hard to write or work on. It takes fairly well to tape too, Due to how thin it is though it can tear a bit easier if I’m not careful with my placement. It’s definitely in high demand and if you’re looking for a journal, planner or diary you’ll definitely see it recommended a lot.
For the coming Year I got some special accessories for it and decorated it in a specific way to make up for the fact that I couldn’t see the cover this time around. If you’re someone who wants to have a decorated cover, inner pages, or back cover there’s a lot of accessories made for them as well. The current clear cover I use is actually one I got on Etsy because of it’s affordability and the size. For this next year though I’ve got a special cover from Hobo’s collab with One Piece as well as a pencil Board! I’ll show what the cover looks like, how it fits and such too just to show what I mean about decorating it too.
So both here have covers, my current has a jelly cover so that I can see the stickers, the next year’s has the one piece fabic cover. For this year I decorated the front cover very lightly as I hadn’t known I was gonna do and ended up adding stickers a bit half-planned, but the back is very decorated with purpose! I had gotten some stickers of one of my favorite manga and other various deco stickers, so made something in a vibe that I liked together. Because I did this directly on the cover I wanted to be sure the jelly cover was thick still.
I don’t have anything on the cover of next year’s for this reason, It’s a non-transparent cover that tucks around the cover page like a book sleeve and can’t be easily taken off, but I have decorated the first inner page to make up for that, personally. It allows me to have a bit of a ease into using it for any personal usage but also allows me to be a bit non-precious with it. This is something I learned with sketchbooks, where the easeiet thing to do is draw something or just throw down a rough work on the first page so that you don’t try to hold the sketchbook to too high of a standard to the point you don’t ever use it. So I used the same logic and busted out my washi tape to cover the first few pages and give myself that little bit of freedom with the rest of it. Speaking of Washi, let’s go over some of the material I’ve used in my journal for a variety of things and some of the washi/sticker groups I’ve got stuff from!
Basics (Pens, Pencils, Erasers)
Overall I’m pretty basic with my usual pens, I use Bic standard ball point. I have one in Black and Blue, and usually keep the black one in my pencil case. If I am feeling more colorful I have some One Piece gel pens that I use (I seem obsessed with One Piece but it’s purely coincidence here I promise). Because I draw and such, I naturally have a set of art pencils that I also use in the journal on occasion. It’s not very often but they’re still handy to have on hand. The pencil set also came with an eraser; Faber Castell’s dust-free vinyl material eraser.
Markers, Faber Castell, 25 Pack
The Faber Castell marker pack is one I’ve had for about 10 years now, It’s not something I get out frequently but even still it’s surprising none of the markers haven’t dried out or lot of saturation. These markers I feel work especially well on Hobonichi’s river paper, where theres no bleed and the colors are still really vivid. The downside to that is I frequently find that when i use them on standard sketchbook paper they absorb into the paper really fast, which is nice, but on the river paper they set a little slower. I believe it has something to with the way they don’t bleed through, but I’m not sure. It’s not a problem if I let it dry for a minute but if I make something more involved because I want to dress it up I have to let larger portions of the color sit for a minute so I don’t smudge it on my hand. Usually too I use it in combo with some stickers I have. Usually as well I use it to fill double pages that I just didn’t get to or to mark general events in a busy two-day schedule. Likewise with stickers I tend to use them in a similar way where I use them to fill a larger portion of the page first or compose the major portions of it before writing anything down. It lets me be sure that I’ll have enough room for little thoughts but also the art or such I place down.
Sticky Notes, Washis and Stickers
For These I usually get my washis, stickers and sticky note tabs from fanzines. Previously I got the Demon Slayer Planner, Persona 5 Planners and other various fan projects that usually include sticker sheets, stationary etc. This year as well I’ve joined several “Sticker Clubs” at the end of this year via patreon. Currently I’m in the patreons for: Boxerbun’s Fight Club, Bryson McBee, Janet Sung, Mogumu, Ocean Club and previously Trungle’s. Not many of them are Washi based, most of my current washis are from fanzines I mentioned, except 1 from uchuu summer, which I received more recently. A lot of Washi tough tend not to be sticky enough to totally tape down objects or papers, they’re better for decoration and stuff like that.
Camera / FujiFilm
I do supplement my journal or more diary style entries with actual photos! I find that I don’t take a lot of photos in my life but know that it can be important for personal confidence in a lot of ways. I was never really comfortable getting my picture taken or even being in pictures but because of that I also feel like I didn’t get to properly preserve an idea of what I look like. This is something I especially noted in the last two years because of the passing of several family members, who I have few pictures with because of my aversion to taking them. I don’t really want to lose that time together going forward so I have pushed myself by doing physical photo stuff and doing atleast one selfie every 3-4 months. To do this I decided a Fujimax (FujiFilm Instax) would be nice to have, they’re both convenient and the film is easy to use. Learning how to use it was nice and easy but also gave me a really nice and easy “gift” if I was hanging out with someone for a special occasion. I literally did a photo exchange with some of my friends who also had a Fujimax (by total coincidence) where we both took pictures together and then exchanged them. It was really nice and gave an extra sense of sentimental value for something so nice and simple.
The size of the photos too, in combination with my A5 makes for a good amount of space left to write, even with multiple pictures. Also due to the size of the pictures and the writing space at the bottom, I can tape them in in unique ways that let me open them like a pop-up book or write under them too! Similar to the Hobonichi, these cameras also have a lot of accessories that you can buy from both amazon and handcraft sites like etsy. Often as well I find that theres a lot of nice deco stickers made for this size, or around this size, due to kpop fan creations like Custom Photocards, Anime merch of arcylic cases and things of that nature that encourage adding your own stickers and then an acrylic or sleeve card to protect it.
And that is about it! I really eased out of using general planners for taking notes and stuff to actually doing all sorts of things that just are nice little stationary works for myself or journals about life. It’s like scrapbooking but a bit more personal or varied. It’s not necessarily about a specific event but about anything and everything from events, to notes, to drawings and thoughts. When I let myself be really free form with it I had a lot more fun overall and feel like I’ve let myself understand and reflect on things a bit more than before. It’s been really nice and is actually a part of what got me into the idea of doing more text blogging to begin with. While I don’t think I have some of the decorem or informative sides that most other blogs have, that was never really the goal. I have a lot of thoughts, so many that I decided to start making a place for them in my personal life, so to be able to share a little peek into that and get out all the little thoughts I have about the activity or even some of my general knowledge about it is fun.
