Blog Information
Hello!
Please remember that just because you can find out who I am really easily due to the context of my blog doesn't mean you should. Please respect my privacy and refer to me via my blog's URL.
Arroyo Grande is a city in California, located near Gover Beach, Oceano, Pismo Beach, and Shell Beach.
I have an interest in Urbanism, go to Arroyo Grande's City hall and planning commission meetings. I'm here to talk about my city and its neighbors as I experience them - often through the eyes of a cyclist.
I'm typically only ever in Arroyo Grande and Grover Beach, so those will be my main focuses.
The meetings are on Tuesdays, so you can typically expect updates on Wednesdays.

José Arroyo In Conversation With Fiona Cox On Wicked (Jon M. Chu, 2024)
Fiona Cox, PhD in Film Studies by day, and, under the name of Kitty Mazinksy, chanteuse extraordinaire by night, is the ideal person to talk to about WICKED (Jon M. Chu, 2024). Shes read the book, seen the musical four times and has even performed in it. She now talks to me about musicals, the politics of the film, the dancing, the singing, the numbers, the length. Are critics right about tonal…

Facts About Workers Comp Insurance in San Luis Obispo and Oceano, CA
Companies must keep their workforce happy. While business owners can provide the workforce with specific employee benefits, they must consider buying workers comp insurance in San Luis Obispo and Oceano, CA. The States mandate carrying this kind of insurance to protect the workers who may get injured on the job. Moreover, the insurance company will also pay for treating ailments that develop due to the nature of the tasks at the workplace. Previously known as workman's comp, this insurance policy is purchased by the employer to benefit employees injured or taken ill when doing their jobs. The state mandates that this insurance coverage be carried out for every company that employs at least one individual for their business. The rules and regulations vary from state to state, but almost every state employer provides insurance coverage that includes the following for the workers: -
· Medical Expenses- The insurance company will pay for all medical treatment, including visits to the ER, surgery, medication, and physical therapies as needed.
· Lost wages- The insurance carrier will replace the lost wages partially for the injured worker who is unable to continue doing the tasks at the workplace.
· Temporary & permanent Disability- The insurance company will pay for temporary and permanent disability of the injured worker according to the terms & conditions of the state and that which is included within the insurance documents.
· Death benefits- In the unfortunate event of the injured/disabled worker succumbing to the injuries, the insurance company will pay for the funeral and compensate the beneficiary.
· Rehabilitation- The injured or disabled employee may not be able to continue working in the same capacity as before. The insurance carrier will pay for occupational therapy and rehabilitation, thus empowering the employee to work with additional/alternative skills.
· No-Fault Compensation- The worker injured on the job is qualified to receive insurance coverage regardless of being at fault or not.
By agreeing to receive compensation for workplace injuries/ailments, the worker waives the right to sue the employer for liability. This puts both parties into a win-win situation, with the worker receiving financial assistance and the employer being able to part with a lower sum than that incurred by defending a lawsuit.
Sure, the state mandates insurance coverage to injured workers, but the money is paid from the premiums collected by the insurance company. The cost of buying those specialized types of insurance policies varies across states depending on the regulatory standards. The concerned insurance company will also consider the following when drawing up the insurance agreement:
· The company payroll is usually assessed through an audit · The industry that the company belongs to · Claims history · Types of tasks handled by the workers
Individuals owning a second home may give it out on rent. Protecting it by buying suitable rental property insurance in Arroyo Grande and Oceano, CA, is essential to ensure proper maintenance and high rental value. The financial risks are significantly reduced as well.

General Plans
Hello everyone!
So due to Christmas, there's not a planning commission or city council meeting this week, so I figure this would be a good time to discuss one of the bigger picture things going on in my community.
My city is updating something known as a "General Plan". This is a document that sets the general direction of the city, and it's supposed to be updated far more frequently than ours has been. (Having an out-of-date one actually causes trouble with applying for certain grants... which can't be great for funding stuff...)
As far as I can tell, a general plan is broken into "elements", such as the housing element, the circulation element, land use element, and noise element (not an exhaustive list). Given where most of you came from, I imagine there's going to be a particularly intense interest in the first two.
When updating this document, the city council is really asking "What do we want our community to look like?". This is a tough question, and one that our council wanted to make sure we got to help answer. Do we want to go further in supporting cycling infrastructure? What kinds of spaces do we like to be in? What areas need more focus? What's going well? How will we pay for things moving forward?
If you would like to check out the process of updating a general plan, or would like to dive deeper into this topic, I'd recommend poking around the Plan Arroyo Grande website. https://planarroyogrande.com/general-plan-basics.html
For those of you who's cities are not doing a full general plan updates, don't think those general plans are fully set in stone- cities can also update individual elements of their general plan. Grover Beach was (is? I don't go to those city council meetings, so I'm not up to date on their stuff. Sorry guys!) updating their circulation element on its own.

No Bling-Jeans
Well, it’s definitely Zin. An over-simplified statement, perhaps, but with Zin, that’s the first–and most important–qualifier…considering the sins committed against the grape in the past 30 years. Sure, we like pinot to act like pinot and grenache to smell like grenache and chard to taste like chard, but as someone who regularly gets accused of wanting my zins to taste like cab, it’s an important…

A short list of 10 horror books featuring queer, disabled, and queer-disabled characters and themes!
Camp Damascus has been suggested on every single post I've made asking for queer-disabled horror recommendations, including the non-tumblr forums. To a lesser but equally persistent extent, so has Sorrowland and Into the Drowning Deep.
I've really tried to add different books to this list to make sure it wasn't the same as the one I put out for Halloween. The issue is that, I think maybe a grand total of three new horror or horror adjacent books have been added to the archive since then, so I was really strapped for recommendations. And I know it's shorter than the others, but I really appreciate everyone who has contributed a book to this list, or told me that I'd added the wrong one.
Hopefully next year I won't have to scrape the book forums to put another one together!
The books on this list are:
🏳️‍🌈"Camp Damascus"- Tingle, Chuck
🏳️‍🌈 "Sorrowland"- Solomon, Rivers
🏳️‍🌈 "Blackwater"- Arroyo, Jeannette. Graham, Ren.
🏳️‍🌈 "Hell Followed With Us"- White, Andrew Joseph
🏳️‍🌈 "The Spirit Bares Its Teeth"- Ames, Alison
🏳️‍🌈 "Into the Drowning Deep"- Grant, Mira
🏳️‍🌈 "Deathless Divide"- Ireland, Justina
🏳️‍🌈 "We Shall Be Monsters"- Newman-Stille, Derek
🏳️‍🌈 "Highway Bodies"- Evans, Alison
Some of the books on this list can be found on the Disability Book Archive. The rest will be added in the future.
Happy Pride Month!

Some types of policies are mandatory for many companies as per law. By adhering to these legal requirements, businesses can avoid legal penalties and potential lawsuits. For example, all businesses with employees should possess workers' compensation, whereas those using vehicles for work-related purposes should own commercial auto policies. Thus, the above-mentioned events are essential for avoiding court fines and other charges.

Accidents, natural disasters, and lawsuits are some of the costs that commercial insurance covers; hence, it creates financial stability within organizations. Without such protection, one accident could put the company out of business. Workers' compensation is an example of commercial insurance policies that cover employees in case they are injured or become ill because of work.
