hey do you have any recs for starting to read jean grey? i have no xmen experience outside of rougegambit deadpool and like. one moon knight crossover issue. but your art has made me go 👀👀👀👀👀 - @aroacejoncrane

!! the jean recs i’m listing here are some issues that i keep returning to as ‘important’ in my idea of jean:

i think classic x-men #2, #8, #26, and #43 (which is the one i really want more people to read!) all have some good jean stuff in them. Fantastic Four #286 is both really sad to me and i think how jean reacts when people find her is like. important to how i think of her. the adventures of cyclops and phoenix and the further adventures of cyclops and phoenix are also both good. x-men #53 is like. very important to my read on jean. onslaught isn't good but this issue? perhaps. uncanny x-men 381 also “Monsters” from x-men unlimited (1993) #31 kind of informs a lot of how i talk about jean’s telepathy.

i have a lot of feelings about jean in the silver age, but i don’t think those comics make a lot of the connections that later comics might. also, i think louise simonson is one of the best jean writers, and i really like how jean is portrayed in x-factor, just. in general. so i always recommend that.

these are foundational jean issues to me...one's that really affect how i think about her. i think you can read most of these with a general vague knowledge of what happened in the dark phoenix saga and that jean and scott were like. dating/married. hope that's helpful!!

BINGO!!!! do you ever think about marc and his relationship with his father and how even when he's gone it still shapes him and is so vital to understanding who marc is and break down crying, bc I do. also I think if you like marc bc of the mcu I don't wanna talk to you, leave him and me alone. he's just I think about him a lot and I just feel so much but especially his relationship to judaism, makes me insane.

🌹 Who is the hopeless romantic? -Shroud for sure; He will do anything he can to be the most hopeless romantic out of the two to the point of outdoing Matt's efforts sometimes. All in good fun, obviously. He greatly appreciates Matt's gestures and kindness, Shroud just wants to show Matt that he deserves the same kind of love but more.

ok i think jason and guy both like would get to better places with bruce if writers cared BUT i think if the two of them were in a conversation together within five minutes they’d start a batman kvetching session and that’d be the majority of their dialogue and then guy would say something that’d make jason go “ew gross thats my dad” and guy doesnt know whether to laugh or apologize so he does both. i think guy would also tell jason he should hang out with simon

the only way i can see a team up between them is if scarecrow is like blackmailing guy somehow in order to take him to meet sinestro or something cause he wants to experiment with yellow ring power and his fear gas. and then you could get a nice character study story examining guy’s fears (cause he does have them and imo sinestro is one of them) while others are working to undo the blackmail if its like a hostage situation or something. i think it’d end with guy threatening to leave scarecrow to suffocate in space or something. and scarecrows like “b-but batman’ll” and guy’s like “batmans not here” he doesnt kill him but he scares the shit out of him

my idea of steven grant is that he tries hard to maintain “normalcy” and reputation, so while he stands out from the average civilian through his status he doesn’t try to stand out much otherwise among his peers (whether he actually succeeds in blending in is another thing). however it is a very fun image you have concocted

Yeah whump freaks me out- when im looking for horror prompts sometimes i find whump shit and im just like. hm stop taking over the tags. im a fan of body horror torture bullshit but if thats all your media has you are Lame and Boring and you need to take a creative writing class and/or read and analyze an actual horror book - bat @aroacejoncrane

mhm I getcha on that. horror has never been my cup of tea 'cause I get paranoid really easily/gore tends to make me sick feeling, but like. I can respect that some people enjoy it. but it's unsettling to me when the bad things have no narrative or thematic significance, ig??
