One thing we’ve seen is that every time someone wields Plagg they go absolutely apeshit for whoever happens to be wielding Tikki at the time. Chat Noir with Ladybug, Lady Noire with Mister Bug, Kitty Noire with Scarabella, etc.

Given that Plagg is aroace, I’d like to posit two conjectures. 1: wearing Plagg loosens your inhibitions slightly. 2: the primary qualification for wearing Plagg is being utterly down bad for Ladybug users.

In this essay I will explain why neither member of DJwifi should be allowed to use Plagg if the other is using Tikki because neither of them would ever get anything done—

Missssss Wonderland! I might change the tone of her civilian hair in the future, but I think she turned out cute! Also, first submitted changeling! She's probably the least human-like changeling and also the shortest character. Her weaponised ribbons are wrapped around her arms, I felt like them magically uncoiling themselves and turning into arms could be a really cool image XD

I had some idle ML thoughts that I thought were worth sharing.

So I was thinking about how nothing in fanfiction has quite managed to capture the feeling I had when I was watching the first season of Miraculous. I've gotten a lot of other good feelings and really enjoy the fanfiction, but it is markedly different from the first time I watched it.

So I started wondering what was it about this show that made me keep coming back? Because currently it's a combination of morbid fascination, sunk cost fallacy, lingering emotional attachment, and hate-watching. But not in the early days.

Sure, it was cute and charming and adorably cheesy, but the overwhelming focus on the love square that was the hook of the whole series didn't actually interest me (aroace gremlin lol). So what did this show have that made me continue watching back when it was kinda good?

I think I've finally figured it out. The first is the fun, uniqueish concept of mashing together superhero comics and magical girl anime and seeing what you get, which has been discussed in other places. But the second is one I don't really see talked about much. And that was the mystery of it all! When I was watching the first season, my friends and family and I all had a LOT of fun theorizing and putting together the tiny lore crumbs and making conspiracy boards. Is Gabe Hawkmoth, or are they just sorta similar? We watched in the iconic bad release order, so we were also asking where the kwami and the miraculous came from and how they got this way. Who was the Butterfly kwami? How did Hawkmoth get it? What was Hawkmoth's endgame and goals? What were some of the other miraculous? How do these powers work?

The show was set up with so little information, that it was kinda fun to try to piece it together as we went. But that quickly turned into being strung along, plot twists that made no sense (coughs in senti-Kagami), overfocus on dumb shit like the characters being not allowed to satisfactorily develop or more lovesquare lunacy, a fuck ton of inconsistent writing,and a lot of really unsatisfying answers to our questions (Gabe's a man with many issues and also a horrible person, Fu and the Order's whole. . .thing, the Kwami being really bad at their jobs for supposedly immortal beings, etc.)

All this to say, I'd like to pitch a miraculous rewrite that reimagines the origins of the kwami and the lore system to actually make sense, but then treats that very lore system as a mystery that both the audience and the characters have to solve together! I think it would be cool and capture some of the original spirit of the show that I haven't seen replicated.

Honestly yeah bringing back some mystery for the audience would be fantastic

Miraculous Ladybug: A Rewrite; Episode 1

Origins

Synopsis: A new school year has begun and someone new has joined Marinette's class. Adrien Agreste, a child model Marinette has fangirled over since she was little, now sits behind her in class, but he's different than she thought he'd be. She isn't given any time to worry about this though, as something magical has entered her life that might change it forever.

Villain: Mr. Pigeon

Pigeon caller/whistle

Can mentally control pigeons after blowing his pigeon caller 

Conflict: Adrien and Marinette decide if they will be heroes + Marinette learns to be nice to Adrien + Defeating Mr. Pigeon.

Key Events/Scenes:

Ladybug (LB) and Chat (Noir) are introduced

At the end of the episode, Chloe tries to be bitchy to Marinette but she stands up for herself and Alya is like “way to go girl”. It’s not like the whole class cheers and rallies behind Marinette; it's a personal step.

UMBRELLA SCENE!!

Notes:

Marinette fangirled over Adrien like most teenagers follow celebrity crushes (idfk my aroace ass wasn’t built for this). She liked him in theory and whatnot but when she actually sees him and interacts with him a couple of things happen

One, she realizes he is a real person

Two, she realizes she knows personal details (that he shared publicly, she didn’t stalk him) about him

Third, she realizes she knows a lot of personal information about someone she has never met before, and finally

Fourth, she is incredibly uncomfortable with all this. She realizes she was treating Adrien like he wasn’t real and so it was okay to say how in love she was or have pictures of him in her room but now that she’s met him it feels strange.

So at first, Marinette is kinda rude to Adrien. She distances herself from him and is standoffish because she doesn’t know how to act around him. She feels weird and gross (even if she wasn’t doing anything wrong or abnormal) and so she kinda avoids him

This takes the place of the whole gum thing in the original Origins. During the umbrella scene Adrien is basically like, “I don’t know what I did to bother you, but I’m sorry and I hope we can be friends” and then instead of, like, falling in love with him, Marinette realizes she was being an asshole and tries to slowly open up to being his friend

She is still awkward and uncomfortable at first, but she makes an effort to push past it and be friendlier with him and that awkwardness slowly fades away

Adrien/Chat Noir is so terrified the entire time he is transformed. He is very hesitant to do anything in fear of causing problems/stepping out of line

By the end of the episode, Adrien/Chat is a little more confident but it is barely noticeable.

He’s used to following orders and being told what to do and not doing anything wrong and being Chat Noir feels inherently wrong to him so he’s very hesitant to do anything in fear of messing up or being in the way.

LB is very clumsy and doesn't know how to deakumatize so she just captures the akuma in a little plastic box

Hawkmoth eventually deakumatizes it himself. She doesn’t really have any knowledge that he is doing it and thinks they just like, run out of battery and eventually revert back to normal, and then she releases them

Deakumatization is Marinette’s third power she hasn’t unlocked yet. (See my post Miraculous Make No Sense for more information)

Also when Tikki/Plagg are talking to Marinette/Adrien to convince them to be heroes, Mari/Adrien ask about their secret identities and the Kwamis explain that people need a reason to suspect their true identities

So people can look at an image of Marinette and Ladybug side by side, and unless they have a reason to suspect that Marinette is Ladybug, they won’t

So if someone sees Marinette run into a bathroom, a flash of light, and then Ladybug run out, they have pretty solid proof that Marinette is Ladybug, and if they truly believe that Marinette is Ladybug, the face blindness goes away and they can clearly see they are the same person

This makes it so they can still have their secret identities but they have to be careful about it.

And how they would fit into my personal fanon

I love the designs on the right, and though I wouldn't want to have too much superheroes, it would be neat if they were a separate group from Quantic Kids and did their own thing (maybe they could be antiheroes or rivals?). I think it would fit with that early concept where there aren't akumas, just kwamis that can help people fulfill whatever wish they want, whether it's good or bad.

For personalities, I kinda mashed the descriptions from 2012 bibles with my own headcanons.

I want Chloe to like, actually be popular. To be the kind of person who can sweet-talk people into doing what she wants instead of just threatening them. Actually, I'm kinda picturing this girl. And I want her to be a fashion rival to Bri/Mari. She might not be academically smart but she's not stupid.

The whole "she wants to date Felix even though she doesn't actually like him" thing can stay but I'm also making her gay. I just like the idea that she looked at all pretty rich boys and specifically chose the one that doesn't like her to have a "crush" on. Also I kinda imagine her as Allegra's cousin maybe.

Sabrina... The way she's described makes her sound different to canon Sabrina, with elements of Lila's personality. I don't know if I want to give different names to concept Chloe and Alix, but I nicknamed her Sybil in my head.

I'm picturing her as a strict class rep with a soft spot for Chloe, a reporter and Alya's rival. More snarky and introverted in reality, but she tries to be more like Chloe because she wants people to like her, and she doesn't see herself as that interesting on her own.

And then Alix joins the group and starts shaking up their dynamic. Chloe tries to show her how to be more feminine, but Alix soon realises that's not what she actually wants. And actually, they're not a girl or a boy, for that matter. But she still likes Chloe's confidence and bonds with Sybil too.

I want her to be sort of friends with Felix as well. They might be different and hang out in different groups, but still find themselves awkwardly bonding because neither of them really fit in. Also I headcanon them both as aspec and trans. This is them to me (except Alix is agender). Chloe is a bit jealous of them hanging out, but for different reasons than she thinks.

I bet it's "just don't work like that". see also, all the writing advice that goes, make your character's greatest strength also their greatest weakness. I sincerely doubt there's a kwami of Stubbornness, because we already have a kwami of Determination. I'm not sure if there's a kwami of Lust, what with the canonical aroaceness of all kwamis, but if there is—and assuming this is not the kwami of Passion—that really mostly sounds like an alternate name for the kwami of Desire. Pride? Confidence. we saw what happens when the nasty side of the kwami of Freedom is on display and it is not what anyone would call superheroic.

So why aren't there Kwamis for like negatives things in the universe? Like presumably how come there aren't supervillain specific Miraculous? One Guardian goes bad and then bam we have Seven Deadly Sins or w/e.

I dunno, maybe kwamis just don't work like that? Or there are some and we just haven't heard of them yet.

I was thinking something more like that episode of The Fairly OddParents where Timmy wished that he would be a fairy while Cosmo and Wanda become his human charges, but with added bits of: how the usual Holders know how to use the Kwamis' powers but forgetting that the Kwamis are unable to control/keep a lid on them; the humanized Kwamis learning how to use their new limbs; and the Kwamis feeling romantic love for the first time (Plagg takes "Sugarcube" to actual flirting levels rather than mimicking it, but Tikki falls for Sass).

I........ forgot that the Kwami were semi-canonically Aroace.

But also yeah.

Going out on Midsummer had been a very bad idea, Adrien was able to admit that much. He couldn’t regret running into a girl named Marinette though, who had helped him through the time where Faerie tried to call him with sweet songs.

He really wanted to get to know her better, but there was a slight problem: he was a Cat Sidhe and if she found out about it, she might as well be proclaimed dead on the spot. But the loneliness he had seen in her eyes had been too familiar for him to just leave her alone. Keeping her ignorant of the presence of the fair folk, while he himself was one of them, proved to be a lot harder than he had expected it to be though.

So TunaFishChris’s The Family You Choose is still my favorite iteration of the idea of soulmates I’ve ever come across. When you touch blood with your soulmate you share memories and exist like a ghost in their life that only they can interact with. Both of the above stories are takes on that au.
